Introduction

This review, as I am sure most will already know, has been written to death however I shall persevere to get my opinion across about this astounding game. It is no secret that the Pokemon series is one of the most popular in the gaming industry and has been played by millions across the world. Pokemon is relatively unique in it's play style, the low graphics and almost childish style makes it a fun and easily playable game to all who have the fortune of picking it up. For those children who are bought the game it is a fun and exciting world full of possibilities and challenges for them to overcome and the simple controls makes for a very comfortable early gaming experience. This however pales in comparison too the reason for the adult communities love of these amazing games; the simple look and feel of the game is reminiscent of old consoles and the hours of their childhood which went into playing them, Pokemon is loved by people of all ages because it is a timeless game which, in my opinion at least, has no comparative equal.

Graphics

The graphical quality of Pokemon leaf green was never designed to be cutting edge or anything to the effect, it is a simple remake of the original games of Pokemon Red and Blue and as such kept up a very similar appearance. The major differences between the games is simply in the coloring which simply was updated. This of course was not the only update, the sprites used, of course, were massively updated. Pokemon Leaf Green was never designed to win any graphical awards but it is the classic appearance which makes it such a beautifully crafted game to play.

Sound

The music used in the Pokemon Leaf Green version is quite simply a remake and quality improvement upon the original soundtrack of the first Pokemon games and as such is a fantastic part of the game. I know that I keep revisiting the 'old ways' of Pokemon but that really is what Leaf Green is, it is an amendment and perfection of an already phenomenal game. The use of the original soundtrack and switching the songs between the route, towns and battle sequencing is just as impressive as it was at the beginning giving a clear distinction between each and every part of the game as you progress through it.

Gameplay

The actual gameplay of Pokemon in general and not just Leaf Green has become synonymous with turn based battle sequencing and is the most famous form of this particular kind of gameplay and has stemmed the creating of many games since. The use of the bag in compartments has become one of the most common parts of any modern RPG and Pokemon was a very early form of this. The control base is incredibly simple using only 4 buttons and a joypad and makes the game more about the emmersion than thinking about the controls you have to use such as mosern games like; World of Warcraft for example. The Pokemon gameplay has always been an impressive part of the gaming industry and the concept of movepools has become a large part of development in all games in the form of classes and the like.

Lastability

Pokemon Leaf Green is, in my opinion, one of the most re-playable games I have ever encountered, the enormous choice of Pokemon to use, the Breeding option, the different natures and move sets which can be used on every Pokemon, the competitive battling and trading additions makes for a very long lasting and lasting game. It is not uncommon for people to play extraordinary amounts of the game, I myself can comfortable play Pokemon games for up to 36 hours straight (my personal record, I know sad right) and topping 400 hours of gameplay. Pokemon has an almost limitless number of combinations for people to try and the ever increasing nuber of Pokemon to the world makes for even more replay-ability.

Overall

It is not uncommon for people to ask whether Pokemon is the greatest game in existence and to be completely honest I would say it is not even close, there is one major reason for this; it is being done to death, if Pokemon had been left at 4 generations or even (despite much challenging of this opinion) just 3, I would have said that, yes, it is the greatest game ever but because Pokemon has become so much about money it is no longer as good as it should be and has become too corporate. Saying that however; Pokemon Leaf green and Fire Red got it exactly right, they incorporate the first generation of Pokemon (and obviously the best) and do not make a fuss over the idea of the player obtaining any more despite the option being there for those who want to. The first generation of Pokemon was such a huge leap forward and Pikachu is still one of the most famous fictional characters in the history of gaming. Pokemon has touched the lives of millions and will hopefully continue to (though it would be nice if they would give us a generation of Pokemon as good as the first again) for many years to come.
