POKEMON EMERALD is the most recent Pokemon RPG in the RUBY and SAPPHIRE saga. You play as a male or female character who has just moved to the town of LITTLEROOT. Your goal is to collect all the badges of HOENN and eventually, conquer the POKEMON LEAGUE. In this installment, you not only fight BOTH TEAMS AQUA and MAGMA, but you also have to control the legendary Pokemon of Ruby and Sapphire, Groudon and Kyogre.
Pokemon Emerald makes full use of the GBA's graphics. In my opinion the game has absolutely perfect colouring and sprite detail. But the best part of Pokemon Emerald's graphics would definately be the Pokemon Crystal concept of moving Pokemon sprites. Although it is disappointing that the Pokemon sprites are the same as those in R/S, it still delivers exceptional quality graphics.
OH, THE SOUNDS OF THIS GAME!
The music of this game has greatly improved when it comes to the new areas. The news areas have completely different music. Although when it comes to the original areas, nothing has changed, which is a real downer. The Pokemon have individual cries which are very distinguished, but it's pretty much just roaring or screeching instead of their own names (but there are 386 of them so that's pretty impressive.)
You will hear many people say that this is just like any other Pokemon game when it comes to gameplay, but they obviously haven't actually played them all. In the GBA games, unlike the GBC games, you aren't just collecting badges and Pokemon, but the fate of the world hangs in the balance. In Sapphire, Kyogre is released, flooding the region. In Ruby, Groudon is released, causing a regionwide drought. In emerald, they are both released, causing an unnatural weather crisis only stoppable with the help of Rayquaza, the legendary Pokemon that freely controls the weather. Also, you have to try to keep Team Aqua and Team Magma from committing nefarious deeds while they feud amongst themselves and you.
I myself have been playing my current save file for 8 months and I still haven't finished it completely. This is not through lack of trying. It would obviously take awhile to collect 386 Pokemon, beat 8 gym leaders, conquer the elite four and complete the all new battle frontier. The battle frontier is a brand new area in Hoenn, in which there are Seven "FRONTIER BRAINS" which are sort of like gym leaders, but they reside in seven different battling areas where new battle rules are applied to make you think. You can find out all about the battle frontier at http://www.serebii.net/emerald/frontier.shtml
Overall, Pokemon Emerald far surpasses anything game freak have come up with so far. I have nothing bad to say about this game in any of it's aspects. If you haven't decided to already, I advise you to buy yourself a copy of this game as soon as you can. It will keep any Pokemon fan occupied for months and even years.
Yours Truly,
