Make sure you get into the habit of regularly quicksaving the game to ensure you save your progress. The best time to do this is immediately after starting a mission so you avoid having to load the entire thing again, other times you should quicksave will be once you have accomplished something tricky like assassinate or snuck past a guard. As a rule of thumb it is recommended that you wait for about 10 seconds to be absolutely sure you haven't been spotted by the enemy before you quicksave.

It is essential that you always use your ability to check the enemy field of view (FOV) and take advantage of blind spots and obstacles that will completely or partially block the enemy's sight. If you are far enough from the enemy you will be able to freely move in the enemy's FOV without being detected if you crouch. If you are standing the enemy will start 'locking on' to you and you will only be able to move slowly until you leave his FOV. If you have been spotted by the enemy the cone of their FOV will gradually change colour to yellow and you will be detected if the colour reaches you which will result in the alarm being raised.

Always hide corpses to prevent patrols stumbling upon them and raising the alarm. There are several ways in which you can dispose of a body so it remains hidden while you progress on a mission, these include buildings, bushes, wells, baskets, bodies of water, and nearby gorges. Enemy reinforcements will also abandon the search faster if they find no dead bodies on the ground.

Don't be afraid to kill 'innocents' (civilians) in Shadow Tactics - Blades of the Shogun as the game will not penalize you in any way. There will however be instances where you will be left with no choice but to kill them in order to prevent them from raising the alarm. It is recommended that you kill the civilian in the way instead of knocking them out as they have a tendancy to wake up a minute later. The only time you should not kill civilians is if you are going for achievements/trophies that specify no civilians are to be killed.

Although Shadow Tactics - Blades of the Shogun is a stealth and strategy game it is not the end of the world if you get seen by the enemy and they raise the alarm. Although it will likely mean not earning the achievement/trophy associated with the mission if you are detected, it does however give you the opportunity to get rid of troublesome Straw Hats or Samurai. In the early missions the spawned patrols will always be normal guards, it is not until you reach the later missions that the patrol will include Straw Hats and Samurai.
