"Sections"
----------

This game isn't really split into obvious chapters, but I'm using the major
cutscenes to sort of divide the game into sections for the sake of simplifying
the walkthrough. Note that the section names and area names that I've assigned
are not given in the game, they're just what I've come up with to describe
things.

---
PDA
---

This game keeps track of information in your PDA, which you can access by
pushing the select button. Most entries are done automatically, but all of the
entries in the Pickup category are found on the ground, and you'll actually
have to grab them as you play the game if you want them. There're also a few
entries in other categories that can only be gotten if you do certain things,
so head to the PDA section of this guide if you're wondering how you missed
some entries along the way.

-----------------
Inside the Museum
-----------------

The on-screen prompts will walk you through some of the basic controls, so just
do what they say until Pandora's Box goes crazy. The staircase in this room is
blocked by something, but Pandora's Box will take care of that for you shortly.
Head up the stairs and move through the museum, using your circle button to
crouch when necessary and your X button to jump.

Eventually, you'll come to a locked door at the end of a hallway with a green
exit sign in it. This is the first of many (many, many...) annoying keypad
things that you'll have to bypass to continue. Just stand near the keypad and
hold your square button down long enough for the door to unlock. Move down the
hall and take a left, then find the shiny water valve on the wall. Hold your
square button down in front of it until the sprinkler activates, then head out
of here around the corner to where the fire just was.

------------------
Outside the Museum
------------------

Follow the hallways until the next cutscene occurs, then run down the museum's
steps and into the streets. Your path is pretty linear, but sometimes it won't
seem that way until you step close enough to something (which can cause parts
of the street to collapse, et cetera). Your eventual goal should be the door
below a big sign that says Internet Cafe.

-------------
Internet Cafe
-------------

Pickup: Intercepted Text Message: So I'm about to leave...

Weapon: Fire Axe

Wait for the Griffon to clear you a path, then head farther in to the Cafe.
Grab the message off the ground near where the Griffon appears the second time,
then grab the Fire Axe off of the wall near the exit. You can swing it using
your R2 button, and it can be used to destroy certain things. For example, the
crap blocking the exit. Chop it out of the way, then get back on the street.

--------------
Meet the Golem
--------------

Pickup: Intercepted Text Message: Dad, these fire lizards popped...

Weapon: TechLite Arms H662 9mm Pistol

Head through the maze of cars until your good friend the Golem appears. He'll
create a pretty big hole in the ground when he leaves, so jump into it and
follow the path into a demolished office building. Hold down your L1 button to
sprint through here if you'd like, then head down into the street again when
you reach the other side.

Look to the left to find a Pickup entry on a desk, then make sure you grab the
TechLite Pistol on the ground in the middle of the street. Head into the next
destroyed section of building once you have it.

---------------
Office Building
---------------

Pickup: Intercepted Text Message: Holly, can you see this?...

Head down the hallway until the game gives you a message about interactive
objects by the staircase. Look up the stairs and find the vending machine,
then use a handgun shot to destroy the board that's holding the vending machine
up. Head up the stairs, then use your L1 button to run while you jump with
your X button to make it over the gap in the floor. (If you fail and fall down
into the small room, shoot the propane tank thing by the rubble blocking the
exit, then simply head back up the stairs again.)

Search the right corner on the other side of the gap to find another text
message Pickup entry. Use the nearby water valve crank to put out the fire,
then head out of the building and back into the street. Jump down into the
lower area and head into the subway tunnels to continue.

----------------------
Subway Tunnel Entrance
----------------------

Pickup: Intercepted Text Message: Our train just hit something...

Firedrakes are annoying as crap at this point in the game, especially since
they'll just continue coming out of their hole in the ground until you find a
way to cool it with water. Rather than standing around to fight them, simply
run for the subway cars and use the ramps to navigate through them. When you
get to the other side, use your Fire Axe at close range to chop the two
Firedrakes near the ramp. Take the ramp up to the main subway area, then check
near the vending machines for a Pickup entry.

Continue down the path and find the fire alarm thing on the wall, which you can
pull to put out the fire along the path. There's a valve farther down the path
that will put out the next fire as well as the Firedrake pit, so use it before
using the keypad on the door.

--------------------
Second Subway Tunnel
--------------------

Pickup: Intercepted Text Message: I told you it was...

Pickup: Downloaded Email: Jim never straightens up the...

Some more of those annoying keypad things to bypass... when you get to the
fork in the path, it doesn't seem to make any difference at all which way you
go (in fact, the paths appear to somehow lead to *identical* areas...). When
you enter the tunnel, make sure you don't accidentally step in front of a
train. Fight and/or ignore the Firedrakes as you cross over to the other side
of the area.

Check around for grates on the wall that can be smashed with your Fire Axe,
then smash one and get inside. You should find yourself in a small hallway
with a Firedrake pit - simply use the fire alarm on the wall to neutralize it.
Grab the Pickup entry on the ground, then get in the next grate you see on the
other side of the firedrake pit and continue through the tunnel. When you drop
down in the vent, fight off the Firedrakes in the hallway and quickly use the
valve on the wall near the Firedrake pit to neturalize it.

There's another vent near the entrance to this area, so crawl through it to
find a ladder. Climb up the ladder, then dodge the trains as you get into one
of the vents on the wall (they both lead to the same place). Use the crank on
the wall to open the gate blocking the lift, then use the button on the wall in
the lift to ride it up.

-------------------
Back on the Streets
-------------------

Pickup: Intercepted Text Message: Bob, remember when I called...

Weapon: Molotov Cocktail

Weapon: TechLite Arms SMP-9 Submachine Gun

Dash across the street and enter the building near the fire hydrant, then head
up the stairs. Check the upper level for a Pickup entry, then head down the
next set of stairs as soon as the stuff blocking the path is destroyed. Grab
the Molotov Cocktail on the ground, then head back onto the street. Make a mad
dash for the opposite side of the area and chop the fire hydrant by the
Firedrake pit to neutralize it, then pick up the submachine gun by the nearby
wrecked vehicles.

When the soldiers arrive, take cover and use the submachine gun to pick them
off (holding L2 will let you zoom in a little). Clear them all out, then work
your way around the wreckage of a bus that's burning. A cop will open a door
near the Crosby Auto Shop sign and tell you to come inside.

---------
Warehouse
---------

Pickup: Downloaded Email: For the last time, we...

Your axe is your best friend when dealing with werewolves. Chop them a few
times to knock them down, then lop their heads off before they get back up.
Head for the back of the room to find a pair of platform things with a ladder
between them. The platform thing on the left has a bunch of garbage cans on it
for some reason, and they're full of water. Shoot them to spill the water,
making that side much lighter, which causes the other side to come down to the
ground. Use the boxes that're now within your reach to get to the ladder, then
use the keypad thing (argh) to get through the next door.

When you step out onto the broken catwalk in the main warehouse area,
immediately snipe the green cable thing that's holding up one of the giant
cargo crates (use your submachine gun and zoom in if you need to). Jump down
off of the catwalk and talk to the cop if you want, then continue through the
warehouse with your axe ready to fight werewolves. There's a ladder on one of
the nearby cargo crates, so use it to get on top of them.

Walk across the plank, then take a running leap over to the next set of crates,
where you already should've dropped the one that was hanging above. You'll be
able to walk through it, and you'll note that it's full of submachine gun ammo
for your convenience. Anyway, continue moving across the crates and planks
until you find a ladder leading up to the catwalk with the crane controls. Use
them to get the crates moving again, then use the nearby boxes to jump onto a
crate as it moves past you. Jump to the middle pile of crates next, then onto
the next moving crate, which you should be able to ride all the way up to the
upper catwalks.

Enter the control room and use the button on the console to open the door to
the place where the cop was when you first entered the warehouse area, then
head back through the warehouse and go through that door. You should find a
Pickup entry near an explosive barrel here, so make sure you grab it before
jumping over the crates. Use the keypad hidden behind the boxes near the metal
door to continue.

----------------------------
Times Square Subway Entrance
----------------------------

Pickup: Downloaded Email: Milly! Can you believe what...

Fight your way through this last warehouse area, then exit onto the street and
head down the stairs to the subway area. Bypass the keypad to get into the
security area where you can find a button on a console to open the subway
gates, then head past the gates and work your way through the subway cars until
you find another door with a keypad on it. Bypass it, then move into the
subway tunnel where the soldiers are fighting some Firedrakes.

Use the subway car to get through to the Firedrake pit, then use the valve on
the wall by it to neutralize it. Clear out any remaining Firedrakes before you
attempt to continue down the tracks. A bunch of soldiers are going to take up
defensive positions along the way, so you'll have to fight them off with your
submachine gun and molotovs (there're more molotovs on the ground nearby).
Ignore the lever on the wall, it'll only cause trouble for you.

When you reach the other side, head through the door and move through the hall
until you see a grate on the left before the watery area. Crawl through it and
use the lever on the wall between the two tanks to deactivate the flailing
power cables, then return through the duct and get in the water. Head into the
next subway tunnel and wait for the train to crash, then go look near it for a
Pickup entry. Fight off the Firedrakes, then continue through the next hallway
to meet up with Vivian.

-------------------
Times Square Subway
-------------------

Follow vivian into the little control room area and stock up on items, then sit
back and wait for Black Order and Council troops to arrive. Let them fight it
out for a while as you toss molotovs and pick some of them off with your
submachine gun, then head out there and mop up the stragglers. There's animus
energy on each side of the station, and ample molotovs on the side you entered
from earlier (check a bench against the wall).

With the fight over, you'll automatically move on to the next objective.

------
Sewers
------

Pickup: Intercepted Text Message: There's tentacle things grabbing people...

Pickup: Council Broadcast Message: This is Delta - odd activity...

Weapon: CNE Tactical Systems, Inc. Marauder Model 1010 Shotgun

Wait for the scene with the choppers and the Golem to finish, at which point
you'll find yourself in the sewers. Follow the Council soldiers through the
hallways, dodging the blue thing that tosses things at you along the way. When
you reach the room with the water and the tentacles, have your submachine gun
ready and slowly walk through the water. As soon as a tentacle pops up at you,
quickly back away from it while firing at it. Continue this process until you
reach the door on the other side, which you'll have to open by holding the
wheel thing down for a while.

Continue moving through the watery areas until you find some catwalks leading
out of the water. Go straight when you get on the catwalk to find a small room
with a Pickup entry in it, then return to the big room and head down the other
part of the catwalk. A tentacle will destroy it, causing you to fall back in
the water. Work your way through the water until you find the cop trying to
fight off the weird blue things. These are Nari, and they're fairly easy to
kill - simply wait until they appear (meaning they're not blue anymore) and
blast them with your submachine gun.

Approach the police car to get a prompt to switch out your current weapon for a
shotgun (I suggest swapping your handgun, since it's not nearly as useful as
your submachine gun anyway). Head up the catwalk near the car and work your
way over to the door with the crank to its left, then continue moving through
the next series of hallways. When you see a Council soldier get tossed into a
fan by some Nari, look around for a Pickup entry on the ground.

Continue moving until a tentacle forces you into the water again, then use the
crank to get the gate to the next area to open. When you find a room with a
giant fan in it, shoot the four glowing green bars around it to knock it out of
the way so you can continue. Find the ladder with the chain around it in the
next area and shoot the chain to make it drop, then climb up it and move
through the area until you find the Council soldiers.

---------------
EMP Generator 1
---------------

Weapon: CNE Tactical Systems, Inc. XT9-MU Assault Rifle

Pickup: Intercepted Text Message: I can't get any answers...

Pickup: Downloaded Email: National Guard has been diverted...

Once the Golem clears the path in front of you, head up to the street and wait
for the path to open in the road. Head down and across, then into the far left
corner to find the CNE Tactical Systems, Inc. XT9-MU Assault Rifle on the
ground. Check the wall of the nearby building to find a Pickup entry, then
raid the area for ammo if you need any. The first generator is nearby, and
you'll have to charge it by standing next to it while holding your triangle
button down. Of course, if you don't have enough animus energy to fully charge
it in one attempt, you'll have to fight some werewolves to get more animus
energy. Make sure you keep your eyes on the Golem to avoid getting instantly
killed by it.

When you've activated the first EMP generator, some Black Order guys will come
out of a small structure (Armed Forces Recruiting Station) on the other side of
the area, where you originally entered from the sewer. Head back under the
low spot in the street and fight your way into the building. Make sure you
grab the Pickup entry from one of the cubicles inside, then head through the
rest of the building and go down the subway entrance on the other side.

---------------
EMP Generator 2
---------------

Pickup: Intercepted Text Message: Fiery Monsters all over the...

Grab the Pickup entry from the floor of one of the hallways on your way into
this chunk of the subway. Use the grates on the walls near the fire to work
your way to a valve that you can use to put the fire out, then fight the
Firedrakes on your way through the series of ducts. In this close-quarters
environment, the shotgun will be your best friend if you'd like to avoid being
burned by the Firedrakes as much as possible.

When you emerge from the ducts and enter the main subway area, you'll have to
collect pieces of the EMP generator. Enter the main area and use the valve in
the small room in the center, then take a right and head to the very far end of
the subway cars to find one chunk of the EMP generator. The other two are on
the other side of the subway - one down the line of tracks, the other in the
small room with all the vending machines down the hallway. When you have all
three chunks, return to the middle of the room and place them on the base of
the generator with your square button.

Now you'll have to defend the Council dude as he reconstructs the generator.
When he's done, charge it with animus energy. Run into the new door that opens
after that and head through the hallway. Move through the sewers until you
come to a room with an odd encased area in the water in the center with
catwalks around it. When you attempt to use the crank on the wall by the door
at the top of the catwalk, one of those annoying Nari things will steal it
right off the wall. Hunt it down, and it'll eventually drop the crank in the
center of that encased thing in the water. Go grab it, then be prepared to
quickly walk against the water's current when the Nari opens the flood gate.
You'll have to shoot the four green things around the fan before you get sucked
in, or you'll die instantly.

Head back to the door and replace the crank on the wall to continue. There's
just one small section of sewer left, and then you'll be back on the street.

---------------
EMP Generator 3
---------------

Pickup: Intercepted Text Message: Saw giant pick up bus...

Pickup: Council Broadcast Message: Nari energy signature similar to...

Once you get on the street, quickly find the subway entrance to grab a Pickup
entry, then sprint for the firetruck ladders to work your way up into the wall
of the building where the chopper crashed. An endless hoard of those Nari
things will annoy the crap out of you during this entire part of the game, so
don't even bother trying to fight all of them.

Once you're on the next level of the building, raid the back room for items and
a Pickup entry. Head to the top of the building to find the third EMP
generator. The Nari swarm will not let you charge it quite so easily this time
though, so you'll have to force them to drop it over and over again while you
charge it. Once you manage to fill it all the way, the Golem will be dealt
with, and you'll get new orders.

---------------------
Recover Pandora's Box
---------------------

Weapon: M99-R High Explosive Grenade

Work your way out of this building and grab the grenades on your way out.
You're heading for the hole in the ground in the middle of the street, so go
ahead and drop down there. Much of the immediate area down here should be very
familiar since you just came from here, so backtrack your way through,
slaughtering Black Order soldiers and tentacles on your way. Eventually you
should find yourself back in the area where you were collecting the parts for
the second EMP generator. A collapsed part of the roof in there will allow you
to get back onto the street.

The path you want to take once you reach the street is a little confusing, but
the goal is to go back through the Armed Forces Recruiting Station to get to
the other side of the street. Tons of Black Order guys are waiting over there,
so use your assault rifle's zoom feature to pick them off as you continue down
the street. When you cross underneath the collapsed area, even more soldiers
will be waiting for you. Continue following the flares until you find the area
with Pandora's Box. Defend yourself against the werevolves using animus bursts
and your shotgun until the chopper arrives.

Crash Site
----------

Pickup: Council Broadcast Message: This is Echo reporting in...

Move through the rubble of the structure near the crash, then continue moving
until you find a pond. Move through the water and get back onto dry ground
where the car's headlights are pointing, then move through the area until you
encounter some more Nari. Wipe them out and continue moving until you come to
a gate with a Nari on top. Kill it, then enter the gate to continue.

The weird thing hanging off of the ceiling is the first of many Blood Spider
nests that you'll encounter. Use the zoom on your assault rifle to destroy the
nest while you fend off any of the spiders that come at you. An amimus pulse
will also destroy them at close range, but you're better off using quick bursts
from your assault rifle.

Approach where the next was to find a Pickup entry, then crouch and go through
the broken section of bars to enter... yet another sewer area.

-----------------
Crash Site Sewers
-----------------

Pickup: Council Broadcast Message: Bravo reporting. Werewolves die...

Pickup: Intercepted Text Message: Those wolf-things are all...

Pickup: Council Broadcast Message: This is Delta Team Leader. Requesting...

Head through the hallways until you come to yet another gate with a wheel that
you have to crank (...), then keep moving foward. When you see the shadow of a
werewolf on the wall and it sends blood spatter everywhere, check the left
corner to find a spot where you can crouch to continue. Move through this area
until you find a werewolf chowing down on a corpse. Grab the nearby Pickup
entry once it runs off, then head up the stairs and move into the next room.

Alpha Werewolves are really nothing special, they just take a bit more effort
to knock them down. Shotgun the crap out of him, then blast or chop his head
off while he's on the ground. Head for the ladder at the back of the room and
climb up to find a Council soldier, then continue through the hallways until
you come to a room with two Blood Spider nests in it. Quickly kill both nests
with your assault rifle, then get back into the previous hallway and use it as
a choke point to slaughter the spiders as they try to attack you.

Drop down into the water and use the ladder on the other side to get out, then
head into the hallway. In the room with the crashed chopper, fight off the
werewolves and then drop down to the lowest part of the room. Search the
outside walls for a Pickup entry and ammo, then return to the central part of
the room and find the ladder to head up to another hallway.

Take a left before the electrical wire and use the lever to deactivate it, then
grab the Pickup entry next to the fried guy. Follow the path behind the wire
to get out of the sewers.

----------------
Caged Werewolves
----------------

Pickup: Downloaded Email: Maggie, I don't trust the...

Pickup: Downloaded Email: Kent, I think you're...

Pickup: Downloaded Email: Patrick, the deal is off...

Fight your way through the Black Order soldiers as you move through the city.
When you move through the crumbled part of a building with some ammo in it,
after the first caged werewolf, make sure you grab the Pickup entry there
before moving on. You're going to come across some more Black Order soldiers
trying to cage up some more werewolves eventually, at which point you should
head up the stairs in that building to find a second Pickup entry on a desk on
the second floor of that building.

Head to the roof next and fight your way up the various ramps and planks until
you can crawl through a burning attic to drop onto the roof of another
building. You'll be able to move through the nearby door and work your way all
the way to the roundabout from there. Get your shotgun out and fend off the
werewolf attacks while you check the area around the roundabout for ammo and a

Pickup: Downloaded Email: Nat, I don't think that...

Pickup: Intercepted Black Order Message: Current team assignments for...

Use your assault rifle to pick off the Black Order troops crouched on the other
side of the street, and watch out for werewolves. Head towards the other side
of the street when it's safe, then head into the building to the left of the
plasma gate and go upstairs. Use your axe to get inside the second room up
here to find a Pickup entry, then look out the window by the top of the stairs.
Pick off the Black Order troops below, then jump down and open the plasma gate
using the keypad.

Continue moving through the area, fighting the werewolves and stocking up on
ammo. Approach the second plasma gate and look to the right of it to find a
Pickup entry, then bypass the keypad lock on the plasma gate and take care of
the werewolf before jumping down the hole.

--------------
More Sewers...
--------------

Weapon: Magnum Research, Inc. Desert Eagle .50AE

Move through the sewers until you find the room with the lever on the wall,
which you can use to raise one of the nearby gates. Take a left as soon as you
get through that gate to find a Desert Eagle on the ground. Take it or don't,
whichever... personally I'd prefer to stick to the assault rifle and the
shotgun.

*NOTE: Not sure if that's the first place you can find the Desert Eagle or
not... the icon when it's on the ground looks very similar to the
regular hand gun, so it's possible I walked by it many times and passed
on it because I thought it was just a hand gun.

Continue down this part of the sewer until you come to what looks like a dead
end. Look up to find a chain holding a ladder that you can shoot, and also
shoot the boards with the dead body on them. Climb up the ladder and keep
moving foward.

Cemetary
--------

Pickup: Intercepted Text Message: Ma, why are you still...

Pickup: Intercepted Black Order Message: How do you freaking capture...

Move down the path, disabling the plasma gate along the way. You're about to
meet a new monster, which is one of the tougher ones you'll find. Dodge the
Minotaur's charges by running around him, and if you can get a shot at his
back, you'll be able to take him down after a while. I recommend you just
stick with your shotgun and unload on him, and always try to stay as far away
from him as possible when you're not firing. If you hit him with an Animus
pulse, it'll stun him, allowing you to easily get behind him and take a few
shots at his back.

Once you've finished the fight, find the gate with the green chain on it and
shoot it to open it up, then head through. Fight the two werewolves, then
check the area by the waterfall for a Pickup entry. Head down the path and
fight the Black Order soldiers and werewolves, then head up the stairs and deal
with the tentacles coming over the wall. Drop down the hole near the wall when
you're ready.

Move through the sewers until you find a basement-like section of sewers.
You'll find an area with three doors on one side of the wall, and when you do,
you should open the first one for a Pickup entry, then open the keypad one to
work your way over to a room with a lever in it. Pulling the lever will
activate the elevator panel in the previous area, so head back there and use
it. Work your way through here until you see the green chain on the ceiling,
which you can shoot to make an exit.

Cathedral Outskirts

Pickup: Intercepted Text Message: Aubrey, this is Gertrude. I...

Pickup: Intercepted Black Order Message: Squad 4 has confirmed Minotaur...

Use your assault rifle to pick off the Black Order soldiers guarding the next
plasma gate, then use the ladder on the wall of the building near where you
just entered this area to get to the upper part of the buildings. Stop in the
middle of the building after the long plank and check the desk for a Pickup
entry. Drop down out the other side of this building and deactivate the plasma
gate, then head towards the big plasma gate blocking the entrance to the
cathedral's courtyard. There's a collapsed chunk of wall on the right side
that can be used to go around the gate, which you can deactivate from the other
side.

Fight off the hoard of Black Order soldiers and werewolves in the courtyard,
then head into the cathedral. When you come to a dead end with a Nari flying
around, shatter the stained glass window and jump out of it. Enter the flooded
basement area and work your way around as the Nari do various things to annoy
you, then use the crank on the wall at the deadend to re-open the gate that the
Nari just closed. Head through it and continue along the path until you're
back on the main level.

The large courtyard area you're approaching is going to bring you to your first
Griffon fight. Keep moving throughout the fight and tag him with whatever you
have, gathering more ammo from the outside of the room as you fight (as well as
a Pickup entry along one of the walls). Smack him with an Animus pulse to stun
him for a second if you need to, and when he finally goes down, take the time
to absorb all of his Animus energy before raiding the place for ammo and
continuing through the next plasma gate.

Pickup: Intercepted Black Order Message: Carlos, since when did we...

Weapon: M249 Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW)

Weapon: X-F451 Man-Portable Flamethrower

Grab the Pickup entry near some of the wounded soldiers, then move through the
place and head up the stairs to enter the main conflict zone. Head to the
right and grab the Pickup entry from the cages, then use your assault rifle to
pick off Black Order troops in the area. Head for the other side of the room
and use the stairs to continue the fight, working your way to the bridge
eventually. Stop before you reach it to pick up the heavy automatic weapon
from the ground in exchange for your assault rifle.

Get on the bridge, then be ready to fend off a hoard of werewolves until a
Griffon comes and destroys the bridge, allowing you to get past the plasma gate
that was blocking the other side. Head down the stairs and fight your way
through the hoard of enemies in the middle of the area, including the dude
that's carrying a flamethrower (which you can then pick up if you'd like, but
I'd recommend keeping your machine gun and shotgun).

Take care of the werewolves if you'd like, then head down the path between them
until a cutscene occurs.

Pickup: Council Broadcast Message: Thomas, don't freely give these...

Head into the area marked Information and download information from every
console that will let you until you're given the armory code. Head for the
armory once you have it and stock up on weapons, then use the keypad to grab a
Pickup entry. Head back out of the armor and make your way to the lab.

There're fun things to play with along the outer walls of the lab if you want,
but none of them will really help you or anything. Head for the central
platform on the upper level to talk to Vivian and Lexington when you're ready
to continue. Council HQ will be under attack, and you'll be told to head for
the elevators. Return to the round room that goes to the information area,
armory, and so forth and go through the door to the right to find the elevator
area. Make sure that you stock up on ammo before you get on the elevator.

--------
Elevator
--------

Pickup: Council Broadcast Message: Kronen wants me to scan...

Fight off the Nari once you board the elevator, then activate it using the
control panel as soon as you can. When it stops higher up, take time to search
the rooms around the outside of the area for a Pickup entry. Fight off the
werewolves, then get back on the elevator and reactivate it.

After working your way up the flights of stairs and raiding the staging area
for ammo and grenades/molotovs, head up and enter the main fight.

---------------
Parliament Roof
---------------

Weapon: Shoulder Launched Anti-Air Missle Mark 7 (SLAAM-7)

Pickup: Council Broadcast Message: All Council cells have been...

Griffons aren't easy, especially in tight places. Try to pick off as many
Black Order soldiers on the roof as you can before the Griffon shows up, then
use molotovs, heavy machine gun fire, and well-placed grenades to take it down
as quickly as you can. Run to the other side of the roof and enter the
building there, taking out the remaining Black Order soldiers and raiding the
place for items, including a rocket launcher.

You'll be told that you have to take Griffons out of the air with the rocket
launcher, but doing it from here is annoying. Instead, run over the roof to
the next section of building, where you'll find more rocket launchers. Take
care of any Black Order soldiers on the next section of roof, then look out
there for the pile of rockets. You can use that pile to keep reloading when
necessary by quickly running out there and running back inside.

From the safety of the enclosed area, you can use the rocket launcher's L2
function to lock on to airborne griffons. Once you're locked on, press R2 and
the rocket will follow the griffon until it connects. Stand here and pick off
griffons, reloading when necessary, until you're told that you've killed enough
of them. Head for the fourth section of the roof after that.

When the Kraken appears and you've been told to head for the chopper pad, take
a look around the ground for a Pickup entry. Follow the Council soldiers up
the collapsed section of roof to reach another interior section, then run
across the roof with the tentacles above it until you can get into the hole in
the floor that leads to the library.

Parliament Library

Pickup: Downloaded Email: Evacuation of Parliament Complete. All...

Pickup: Intercepted Black Order Message: I don't trust these ACDs...

Head for the door with the giant thing blocking it, then hold your square
button down in front of it until you roll it out of the way. Head down into
the main section of the library and fight off the Nari as you make your way to
the lower level, grabbing the Pickup entry off of the table near the fireplace
on your way.

When you run into the next area, take an immediate left and sprint for the
weird red glowing thing on the floor. Stand next to it and hold your triangle
button to dump Animus energy into it, which will make the minotaurs fight for
you for a little while. While they're distracted, it's very easy to slaughter
them from behind. If the influence wears off before you kill them both, just
run back to the ACD and dump some more Animus into it.

Once both Minotaurs are done with, head up the nearby stairs and run along the
same wall that had the Aniform Control Device until you find a Pickup entry.
Head through the open door on the other wall to find a staircase heading up,
then get in the elevator and press the button to get back on the roof.

------
Kraken
------

Pickup: Council Broadcast Message: We'll never need that many...

Grab the rocket launcher in front of you, then run forward and curl around the
corner to the right. When the tentacle retracts, head down and take a left
down the stairs to find the helipad, which has a Pickup entry near it. There's
also a crate full of rockets near it, and an Aniform Control Device, making
this the ideal location to fight the Kraken. Activate the ACD and launch
rockets at the closest tentacle until the Kraken opens its mouth, then launch a
rocket into it.

Repeat this process until you've hit the Kraken in the mouth four times, and it
will finally go down.

--------------
First Building
--------------

Pickup: Downloaded Email: Through my extensive research, I...

Head down the stairs and take a left to find a desk with a Pickup entry on it,
then trade your rocket launcher for the assault rifle on the nearby chair (or
wait for the next room to swap it for the heavy machine gun if you'd prefer).
Head through the door and work your way along the ledge of the building to
continue, and have your shotgun ready to deal with werewolves.

Move through the hallways and stairwell until you come to a spot that looks
like a dead end with a bunch of ammo in it, then look up to find two wires that
are flashing green. Shoot them to make a section of floor crash down, which
you can then use to continue. Continue moving until you again come to what
seems like a dead end, then look up to find three more of those green wires
that you can use to make a section of floor drop.

This area has an endless stream of werewolves, so just try to keep moving.
You'll have to find the big area with the tower thing in it, which has even
more of those green wires attached to it. Two of them are low on the ground,
which you can hit while you're moving through the area. When you go through to
the other side and come to a dead end, you'll have to look up to find three
more of the green wires to drop the floor. When you head up the section that
falls, you'll find the third green wire that's holding the tower thing up.
When you shoot it, the tower will fall. Backtrack all the way back down to the
bottom of this building to find where it fell.

---------------
Second Building
---------------

Pickup: Intercepted Black Order Message: Hey Jacko, heard you got...

The collapsed tower thing will form a bridge over to the next building. Take
care of the Black Order soldiers and werewolves on it first, then cross over
there and deal with the rest of them. Shortly after the forcefield cage thing
is another Pickup entry, and there's plenty of ammo sitting on the ground.
Continue following the paths in this building until you reach the section
that's on fire, which you can put out by shooting the broken valve directly
above it. Firedrakes and some troops armed with flamethrowers are in the area,
so make it quick.

As you continue moving deeper into the building, you'll find a random boulder
thing in your way, which you can move simply by holding your square button down
next to it for long enough. Once it falls down the hole, follow it to continue
through the area. Take a right and use the valve on the wall in the little
area, then smash through the nearby boards and head down the hallway. You'll
reach the open street soon, where some Black Order troops are waiting for you.

-------------
On the Street
-------------

Pickup: Intercepted Black Order Message: Primary perimeter is now...

Fight your way through the street, using the scope on the assault rifle to pick
off Black Order troops when there aren't any werewolves bothering you. There's
a guard tower protected by forcefields at the end of the street, which will
prevent you from doing much of anything until you get rid of it. Look up in
the air to the left of it and find the transformer that's flashing green, then
shoot it to disable the forcefields. Raid the building that was sealed by them
for a Pickup entry, then head down the stairs to enter the subway.

--------------
Subway Tunnles
--------------

Pickup: Downloaded Email: My dear Stan, I wanted...

Pickup: Intercepted Black Order Message: All creatures are under control...

Enter the subway and grab the Pickup entry next to a corpse on the first
boarding platform, then work your way through the subway car to enter the
tunnel. The upcoming area is perhaps the most annoying part of the game so
far, simply because you're going to have to deal with tons of bloodspiders.
Fight your way through the werewolves until you find the next subway car, which
will be crawling with bloodspiders becaus there's a nest in it.

Take care of the first wave of spiders, then dash into the subway car and toss
a molotov on the nest as fast as you can. Take a look out of a window to your
right and find the little area with the valve on the wall. Look around the
celing to find a duct with a pipe pointing at it too - there's a nest in there
that will constantly send spiders at you, but you can use the valve to release
gas that you can then shoot to ignite. Quickly run out of the car and use the
valve, then immediately shoot the area by the pipe on the ceiling to ignite it.

More spiders will be coming at you from the next subway car, so deal with them
as you rush into the car to toss a molotov on the nest inside. There're still
four more nests on the other side of this car, so get ready to deal with them.
If you carefully look out of the subway car's window, you should be able to
spot a nest hanging from the ceiling in plain sight, so deal with that one
first.

Next, look for the cubbyhole in the wall to the left of the subway car that
looks just like the previous area - it has a nest and a valve in it. Destroy
the nest, then dash out there and use the valve. Find the pipe on the ceiling
pointing into the duct with the spiders coming out of it and shoot it to ignite
it, then quickly run to the other side of the open area where the gates are and
use the valve on the wall there (there's also a Pickup entry you can grab on
the ground right there). With the valve turned, you'll be able to ignite the
pipe pointing into the last spider duct.

Load up on ammo from the surrounding area, then head through the exit that your
men created for you.

Head to the right and follow your soldiers into the main fight. Grab the
rocket launcher that's leaned up against a vehicle so you can use it to take
out the griffon that lands, then pick an assault rifle back up. Check the
destroyed NYPD car by the bus for a Pickup entry, then assault the entrance to
the tower. You can easily pick off the Black Order soldiers with your assault
rifle, and no creatures will be around to bother you. Make sure you grab the
Pickup entry next to one of the vehicles directly in front of the entrance.
Head through the open door when you're ready.

Pickup: Intercepted Black Order Message: J, heard you got lab...

Move through the hallways until you find the large open room in the middle.
You're going to have to fight two minotaurs in here, so if you don't already
have a heavy machine gun, I suggest you grab the one that's on the ground right
at the entrance to this room. There's also a pile of molotovs there that will
come in handy. Try to keep both minotaurs next to each other as much as
possible so you can hit them both with as many grenades/molotovs as possible.
The heavy machine gun will make short work of them if you can manage to get one
in the back, but if not, aim for the face - enough hits will stun them for a
second, allowing you to run away or move behind them.

Once the minotaurs are dealt with, Black Order troops will enter the area, so
be ready to fight them off. Head to the back of this room and get in the
elevator after you've stocked up on ammo again. When the elevator opens, head
to the right until you find your troops, grabbing the Pickup entry on the
ground along the way. You can't reach your troops from here, so instead, get
in the elevator.

When it stops, exit and take a left to deal with the Black Order troops.
Bypass the keypad lock on the door near here to continue, then be ready to deal
with some firedrakes. Make sure you stop by the office to the right to grab a
Pickup entry off of the desk, then head through the one farther to the right
and use the cabinets and so forth to climb out the window. Stick close to the
wall to avoid the machine gun fire until a Council chopper comes by to get rid
of the Black Order aircraft for you, then continue moving through the hallways.
Grab the Pickup entry by the elevators, then get in the open one.

Pickup: Intercepted Black Order Message: Keep the shield up at...

Head into the lab in the back-right and quickly bypass the keypad lock on the
door, then get rid of the bloodspider nest and any stray bloodspiders. The
room with the nest is full of ammo and molotovs, so raid it before you continue
up the stairs in the hallway. A werewolf and some Black Order soldiers will be
waiting for you there, but they shouldn't be too hard to get rid of. Continue
moving up the stairs and take a right to find a Pickup entry in the small
control room next to the forcefield, then head to the other side of the area
and jump through the hole in the railing to get back in the labs.

Free Vivian by bypassing the keypad lock on the door, then raid the back area
for ammo. Head out of the lab and take a left to go up the same set of stairs
you went up earlier, fighting off the werewolves and soldiers along the way.
The forcefield will be down now, so head for it while you continue fighting the
Black Order troops. Get in the elevator behind it to continue.

Top of the Tower
----------------

Pickup: Intercepted Black Order Message: The power regulation clusters...

Use your assault rifle or machine gun to mow your way around the outside of
this area, killing werewolves whenever possible to keep yourself healed. Each
of the big glowing power cluster things has to be shut down via a control panel
on them that you can activate using your square button. Move through the area
slowly, eliminating the enemies and using the button on each of the three power
clusters. Make sure you check behind the third power cluster for a Pickup
entry, too.

With the power clusters dealt with, Pandora's Box will be exposed. Head back
along the catwalks, dealing with enemies along the way, and clear the soldiers
away from the panel on the central platform. You'll have to dump a bunch of
Animus into the panel to destroy the machine, but luckily, Animus constantly
comes out of the destroyed power cluster devices. Keep making trips to the
closest two of them until you can fill the machine, causing it to be destroyed.

Yeah... that's it. No huge final fight or anything like that, unfortunately.

------
Kraken
------

Legends speak of the Kraken as gigantic sea monsters. I couldn't agree more.
Normal weapons don't even make it flinch. It'll take a rocket launcher to even
scratch it.

[On the roof of Parliament]

UPDATE:

Its mouth seems vulnerable. I bet some well placed rockets down its gullet
would take down a Kraken.

[After exiting the library]

-------
Griffon
-------

The mythological Griffon was a noble creature with the body of a lion and the
head and wings of an eagle. The real-world Griffon is more powerful and
destructive than majestic.

[After exiting the museum]

UPDATE:

The steel beams and rebar of modern buildings have proven to be a favorite of
griffons seeking to build a new nest, which has drawm them to large cities
across the globe. Although they prefer the meatier carcass of a werewolf,
griffons overcome their catlike curiosity with humans and make a meal out of us
when hungry enough.

UPDATE:

I gotta try a rocket launcher on these overgrown birds. Then we'll see who's
the hunter, and who's the hunted.

[On the roof of Parliament]

-----------------
Echidna Tentacles
-----------------

In Greek mythology, Echidna, the 'Mother of All Monsters,' had the face and
torso of a beautiful woman, but the body of a serpent. In some myths, she had
more than one tail. These tentacles that emerge from the ground sometimes feel
like they're working together, or that they're part of some larger creature
hidden deep under the earth.

[In the sewers]

UPDATE:

Note to self: do NOT use Molotovs when one of these things grabs you...

[When encountering the tentacles on the cathedral]

--------
Minotaur
--------

In Greek mythology, the Minotaur was a creature that was part man and part
bull. His hide appears thicker in the front, making him almost bullet-proof.
This relentless, angry bull will charge through walls to get to its prey. The
only advantage I seem to have is my agility and fast reflexes.

[When you find the first Minotaur]

UPDATE:

I think their back side is actually more vulnerable to attacks! If I can
successfully dodge a charge, it'll espose his back for a few seconds.

[During the first Minotaur fight]

--------------
Alpha Werewolf
--------------

Despite the legends and myths, a real werewolf is not a transformed human being
at all. Instead, the creature is its own species, something between an ape and
a canine, and on the ground it is a supreme predator. Superhuman strength,
opposable thumbs, and razor-sharp claws give it the ability to tear through
doors and hurl large objects at their prey. Unfortunately, human beings appear
to be the werewolf's prey of choice. These creatures are stronger than their
cousin, the Limos Werewolf, and act as the alpha male/female in mixed company.

[In the crash site sewers]

UPDATE:

They'll go down after taking enough damage. A LOT of damage, actually, but
they'll get back up unless decapitated. These guys are like hairy tanks, only
far faster and more agile.

[After fighting the Alpha Werewolf in the crash site sewers]

---------------------
Tsuchigumo's Children
---------------------

Tsuchigumo's Children (Blood Spiders)

Ancient Japanese legend tells of a battle between a brave warrior, Raiko, and a
gigantic spider demon, Tsuchigumo. Raiko killed the demon by splitting her
belly open. However, thousands of large red spiders spilled forth from the
bloody wound and crawled off into the corners of the earth.

Nicknamed "Blood Spiders" by Council foot soldiers, Tsuchigumo's Children is a
creature that consists of two parts: the Spider Brood and the Queen. The
Queen is a larger, sedentary version of a Brood that serves as a home and
gestating chamber for new Brood members.

[Shortly after the crash site]

UPDATE:

When the Queen Sac is destroyed, it spits out any spiders left inside before
exploding in a giant mess. The spiders, individually, are weak, but fearsome
in a swarm.

[After the first room with two nests in it]

----
Nari
----

Legends of demonic beings called Nari come from eastern Europe. The Slavic
myth associates them with the souls of dead children, while the Bulgarian
version envisions them in the shape of birds. Their childlike appearance hides
a vicious, badger-like hostility that is only apparent when in close proximity
to a flock. Their resemblance to human children is suspected to be an
evolutionary development designed to lull their primary food source into a
false sens of security, allowing the Nari to get close enough to deliver a
fatal slash with their talons. Nari also have a spectacular defense mechanism:
they can become intangible at will. This protects the Nari from physical harm
as well as allowing them to pursue their prey through any obstacle.

[In the sewers]

UPDATE:

I noticed that they go from ghost to solid before they attack. That's when
they're vulnerable.

[After fighting the swarm of Nari during the hunt for the third EMP generator]

-----
Golem
-----

In Jewish folklore, a Golem is a being formed from inanimate matter, like clay.
The one I just saw formed from the rubble of destroyed buildings and wrecked
cars. Then it tore into the remaining structures, destroying everything in its
path.

[After leaving the Internet Cafe]

UPDATE:

According to Lexington, Golems are held together by some kind of energy field
that can be disrupted with an electro-magnetic pulse. I have no idea what any
of that means, but it sounds like we'd better stock up on lots and lots of
batteries.

[After leaving the Times Square subway station]

--------------
Limos Werewolf
--------------

Weak and revenous from hunger, these wolf-like creatures suffer from a
highly-accelerated metabolism that forces them to hunt for food day and night.
The hunger-crazed Limos Werewolf is fairly easy to take down one-on-one, but
they can be overwhelming in greater numbers.

[After riding the lift after the subway areas]

UPDATE:

I can beat them down, but if I don't take off their heads they'll get back up.
Neat trick. Gotta remember to keep my axe handy.

[After entering the warehouse area after the guys attack from the plane]

---------
Firedrake
---------

In Teutonic mythology, a Firedrake was a fire-breathing dragon. In reality,
the Firedrake is a small quadruped that is able to generate intense internal
body heat. This, combined with a throat sac that mixes an
internally-produced liquid explosive blend, allows the creature to literally
spit fire. Armor plates protect the Firedrake and act as a thermal venting
system that prevents overheating. Additionally, the Firedrake secretes a
chemical from its skin that allows it to ignite a defensive fore explosion. No
doubt, this creature was the genesis of many tales of fire-breathing dragons.

[When entering the subway]

UPDATE:

Surprise, surprise, they're vulnerable to water. Fire sprinklers and hydrants
are going to be my new best friend.

DATASTORE PFGR4212--RECORD: PFGR-4212-BO-44720-P8T

SUBJECT: Aniform Control Device
CLASSIFICATION: Enemy Technology, Black Order
STATUS: Prototype Captured
SOP: Disregard - [[ ANALYZE ]] - Reverse Engineer - Countermeasure
SUMMARY:
An Aniform Control Device (ACD) is a piece of Black Order technology designed
to channel Animus energy to influence the behavior of nearby creatures. When
activated, the ACD emits a localized Animus energy field that masks "tagged"
soldiers from creature attack, causing the creatures to prefer targets in the
immediate area. Due to its small size, the ACD is only effective over short
ranges. The device itself is highly resistant to small arms fire, but can be
destroyed with concentrated effort.

End of line_

[After finding the first ACD in Parliament's library]

UPDATE:

The Council believes the same Animus energy that gives the creatures their
life-force is present throughout the universe, but is nearly undetectable by
modern science. Pandora's Box was something like an ancient radio that was
able to tune into the frequency of Animus and use that to draw in the
creatures.

[Note: The full name of this is actually as follows, but the game shortens its

Billburg-Osterman Tech Shoulder Launched Anti-Air Missle Mark 7 (SLAAM-7)

With guided high explosive rockets, the SLAAM-7 is powerful enough to take down

forget.

Rocket: Anti-Air HE Radio-Guided Rockets
Rate of Fire: 1 Rocket/5 sec

The Signet
----------

The box burned this thing into my arm... feels like electricity or something
is pulsing through my veins... the pain is fading away...

When I get near these strange energy clouds my hand glows. Feels like this
Signet branded to my arm is drawn to the energy, wants me to absorb it...

[Start of the game]

UPDATE:

The Council eggheads tell me the signet branded to my arm channels the
life-energy of the creatures, something they call Animus Vitae. They say the
box stamped me with the signet as a fail-safe device, and it contains encoded
information on how to reverse the process and jam the monsters back inside
Pandora's Box. My ability to absorb and manipulate Animus is a by-product of
the fail-safe process. Handy.

[After talking to Vivian and Lexington in Council HQ's lab]

-------------------
The Signet & Animus
-------------------

The Signet gives me the ability to absorb the life-energy of creatures, Animus
Vitae, after defeating them. I can store that energy and use it to heal my
wounds. It's possible that there are other abilities I haven't yet discovered.

[Beginning of the game]

UPDATE:

The Council believes the same Animus energy that gives the creatures their
life-force is present throughout the universe, but is nearly undetectable by
modern science. Pandora's Box was something like an ancient radio that was
able to tune into the frequency of Animus and use that to draw in the

Cartridge: 5.56 x 45 mm NATO

Action: Direct impingement gas-operated
Feed System: 7 round magazine

[In the sewers approaching the cathedral]

*NOTE: Not sure if that's the first place you can find the Desert Eagle or
not... the icon when it's on the ground looks very similar to the
regular hand gun, so it's possible I walked by it many times and passed

cash to afford toys like these. How deep do their ties in industry and
government go?

[After the Golem takes out the choppers]

UPDATE:

One-on-one, a Council Black Hawk can handle a griffon. A whole flock of them?
Forget it. The Council's gonna have to learn some new air-to-air tactics if
they want to keep their birds in the sky.

[After arriving at LeFey's compound]

----------------------------
M99-R High Explosive Grenade
----------------------------

A 21st century update to the standard military-issue hand grenade, the M99-R
contains a transmitter that allows the user to remote-detonate the explosive.
This avoids the dangerous and often-fatal need to "cook" the grenade to run
down the explosive timer before throwing.

[On your way out of the building that the chopper crashed into]

-------------------------------------------------
VTG-79 'Vanquisher' Powered Lift (V/STOL) Gunship
-------------------------------------------------

[Note: The full name of this is actually as follows, but the game shortens its
        entry on the PDA screen:]

Billburg-Osterman Aerospace VTG-79 'Vanquisher' Powered Lift (V/STOL) Gunship

LeFey's organization, the Black Order, is a lot more dangerous than I thought.
I've never even seen military technology like this gunship before. It looks
impervious to small-arms fire. The Black Order's influence must run deep in
the government and weapons manufacturing industries.

[When the guys arrive on the plane after the subway area]

UPDATE:

Luckily, the Black Order seems to be relying on ground troops to finish me off.
These gunships tend to fly off after they've delivered some bad guys. Must be
getting re-deployed to deal with bigger threats than me.

[After activating the third EMP generator]

-----------------------------------------------
CNE Tactical Systems, Inc. XT9-MU Assault Rifle
-----------------------------------------------

Control the burst fire on this thing, and it'll be easy to zero in and knock
down enemies.

Cartridge: 5.56 x 45 mm NATO
Rate of Fire: 750 rounds/min
Feed System: 30 round magazine

[On the ground shortly after starting the Golem fight]

------------------------------------------------------
CNE Tactical Systems, Inc. Marauder Model 1010 Shotgun
------------------------------------------------------

Great for close-quarters combat, the shotgun can knock enemies back with its
powerful blast.

Caliber: 12 gauge
Action: Pump Action
Feed System: 8 round internal tube magazine

[In the sewers by the police car]

----------------------------------
TechLite Arms SMP-9 Submachine Gun
----------------------------------

Effective against human enemies, less so against more powerful creatures. What
this weapon lacks in power it makes up for with a rapid-fire spray of bullets.

Cartridge: 5.7 x 28mm
Rate of Fire: 1250 rounds/min
Feed System: 50 round magazine

[By some wreckage on the street right before the guys show up in the plane]

----------------
Molotov Cocktail
----------------

Homemade explosives. Looks like folks are making do with what they can find.
This might not kill a creature right away, but it sure helps whittle them down.

[In the first building after getting out of the subway]

-----------------------------
TechLite Arms H662 9mm Pistol
-----------------------------

This weapon is barely adequate, but better than nothing. I've got to be more
defensive than offensive if this is all I got.

Cartridge: 9mm
Action: Mechanically locked, recoil operated
Feed System: 15 round magazine

[On the street after the first building past the first Golem]

--------
Fire Axe
--------

Cumbersome, but lets me hack through obstacles and enemies if I run out of
ammo. I should've been a fireman. They get all the fun toys.

[When you pick up the Fire Axe in the Internet Cafe]

-------------
Pandora's Box
-------------

According to LeFey, there was a "rare and precious" treasure inside this thing,
and he was prepared to pay "any cost" to possess it. I understand now he
wasn't talking about money. Don't know why he wanted this damn box opened, but
I bet he thought it was going to kill whoever tried.

[Start of the game]

UPDATE:

Pandora's box is real, and instead of sorrows and miseries, it was full of
horrible monsters. Terrific. Now I understand why LeFey didn't want to open
this thing in person.

[After exiting the museum]

------------
Keypad Locks
------------

While there are many types of locks that I can get around, this is one of my
favorites. It's an electronic lock commonly used by people who want to
intimidate the casual theif. Luckily, they don't know how easy it is to pry
off the faceplate and rewire what's underneath. I just need a minute's worth
of concentration to hack these things.

[On your way out of the museum]

NOTE: The order of these entries in your PDA will change during the game as
"updates" are added to existing entries. Some of them can also be
gotten in a different order since they're in the same room, so there's
no real set order they'll always be in.

------------
Ormond LeFey
------------

At first glance, LeFey was like any of my regular clients: rich, aloof,
obsessive about his expensive and illegal art collection. Turns out he's
something different, and I don't know what the hell he's roped me into. I
should've trusted my instincts and walked away when I had the chance.

[Start of the game]

UPDATE:

Whatever he's doing, he needed Pandora's Box opened first. Now that he's
tricked me into doing that for him, he's sent his mercenaries in to retrieve
the box and tie up loose ends. I hate being a loose end.

[After reaching Vivian at the Times Square subway station]

UPDATE:

The crazy bastard has built a machine that can use Pandora's Box to bring all
the creatures under his control. He'll kill millions if he isn't stopped,
including me. If LeFey's machine becomes fully operational, the feedback
through the Signet attached to my arm will kill me.

Botched a robbery, caused a global disaster, and I'm in imminent danger of
being atomized by an insane man's doomsday machine. All in all, it's been a
pretty lousy week.

[After talking to Vivian and Lexington in Council HQ's lab]

--------------------
Lexington White Deer
--------------------

This guy is as by-the-book as they come. Bet he doesn't fart without checking
regulations first. Better try and stay on his good side, though. He seems to
be fairly high up the Council of 98's chain of command, and I could stand to
make some new friends. Especially ones with lots of firepower.

[After the Council troops show up in the Times Square subway station]

UPDATE:

I'm not sure how to peg Lexington. He seems like a guy who wants to serve the
greater good and all that crapolla, but once in a while I get a strange vibe.
Like maybe he thinks he knows what's best for people better than they do.

The Black Order
---------------

The Black Order is a secret paramilitary organization that has cells spread
across the globe. They've clearly been around for a long time, waiting for the
right opportunity to further their long-term goals.

[After exiting the crash site sewers]

UPDATE:

The Black Order split from the Council of 98 in the ancient past over how best
to use the power of Pandora's Box. Members of the fledgling Order believed
that mere possession of the artifact gave them the divine right to use it as
they saw fit. As the centuries passed and the schism between the two
organizations grew into full-scale war, the Black Order expanded its philosophy
to include the exploitation of all advanced knowledge, often taking the
doctrine of "might makes right" to dangerous extremes.

------------------------
History of Pandora's Box
------------------------

The earliest known written version of the Pandora myth is attributed to Hesiod
around the 8th century BC. I wonder if he knew what the artifact really was
and fashioned his version of the myth to scare people from ever tyring to open
it.

[Start of the game]

UPDATE:

Before recorded history, creatures that would one day be regarded as myths
roamed the earth as living, flesh-and-blood animals. Their unique connection
to Animus Vitae, the hidden energy that binds and balances the universe, made
them masters of the earth. Griffons, Firedrakes, Nari, Werewolves, and others
ensured that nature maintained equilibrium - that no one species ever gained
absolute dominance over the others.

Then humanity evolved. Physically weak compared to the creatures, humans
learned to use tools against the vicious monsters that routinely culled their
numbers. While escaping a creature attack, a small tribe of humans encountered
a mysterious rock that had its own connection to the Animus Vitae. The humans
carved and polished the rock into what would become known as Pandora's Box.
They used the artifact to reach out to all creatures bound to the Animus Vitae
and banish them from the face of the earth.

The tribe became the guardians of Pandora's Box, protecting it from anyone who
sought to use its power again. Their descendents expanded this mandate to
encompass any new technology that humanity at large was deemed not yet wise
enough to use responsibly. They became a hidden society called the Council of
98. More confrontational members of the Council argued against hiding away
knowledge that could be used to advance humanity and split off from the Council
to seek their own destiny as the Black Order.

[Downloaded from a computer console in the information area of Council HQ]

-------------
Council of 98
-------------

Vivian tells me these Council of 98 guys are the long standing rivals of the
Black Order. So if the Black Order wanted to unleash all these monsters into
the world, I'm guessingthat makes the Council the good guys.

[After the Council troops show up in the Times Square subway station]

UPDATE:

The Council of 98 is a clandestine organization that considers itself the
"guardian of humanity". The original Council was formed when a small group of
ancient humans created the artifact that would come to be known as Pandora's
Box. Armed with the knowledge that, even with the best intentions, humanity
might takes actions that could lead to its ultimate destruction, the Council
keeps close tabs on developments in all areas of science. Today's breakthrough
could easily become tomorrow's nightmare and the Council of 98 stands ready to
defend the human race against any threat. Even if it requires them to make
decisions from the shadows, manipulating human destiny to achieve the greater
good.

[After getting LeFey's hard drive and returning to Council HQ]

(Note: "might takes actions" is how it actually appears in the game)

-----------
Vivian Kane
-----------

LeFey insisted his executive secretary come along to "assist" me. I bet she's
really here to make sure I deliver the goods. Vivian puts on a good act as an
all-business ice queen, but my instincts tell me she's more than that. Could
be ex-spook, Interpol, or something else. I better watch my back around her.

[Start of the game.]

UPDATE:

Vivian sounds worried, and that's not good. I still don't trust her, but it
sounds like she's as surprised by the creatures as I am. She's got access to
better resources than I do, and there's safety in numbers. At least until we
get out of New York.

[After exiting the museum]

UPDATE:

Getting fired from your job is never any fun. Especially when your boss sends
his mercenaries to kill you afterwards. Don't know what her history is with
LeFey, but Vivian really went to bat for the wrong team. Unfortunately, she's
my best bet for getting out of this thing alive. Guess we're in this mess
together now.

[After meeting Vivian at the Times Square subway station]

UPDATE:

I've never seen anybody more bummed to be kicked out of their secret society.
Vivian has been giving the Council as much information as she can about her
former organization's plans. It's hard to tell if she's trying to do the right
thing or is just out for revenge against LeFey. Probably a little from column
A and a little from column B.

[After arriving at LeFey's compound]

--------------------
Black Order Soldiers
--------------------

Not sure if these guys are mercenaries, fanatics or both, but they're working
for LeFey. They've got orders to shoot me on sight and are well-equipped for
the job. Luckily, the creatures seem to find them as tasty as everybody else,
leaving their weapons behind for me to collect.

[After fighting the guys from the plane]

------------
Murphy's Law
------------

It was supposed to be a simple job. Get in, grab the contents of "Pandora's
Box", and get out. That crazy old man, LeFey, was paying me so much money that
I didn't mind him insisting his assistant, Vivian, act as my wheelman. Then it
all blew up in my face. What is this thing, and why did LeFey want me to open
it? My gut is screaming "setup," and I bet Vivian can give me some answers...
