Killzone 2: Class-specific Ribbon FAQ By Aundre Kerr. Version: v1 Date: 4-AUG-2009 Copyright 2009 Aundre Kerr. Table of Contents ----------------- Medic [MDC] -Reviving -Healing Engineer [ENG] -Turret Kills -Repair & Hack Tactician [TCN] -Spawn Grenades -Air Support Assault [ALT] -Boost Saboteur [SBT] -Disguised Kills -C4 Kills Scout [SCT] -Sniping Locations Basic Soldier Class [BSC] -Exclusive Weapons -Uses Contact [CTC] These may change with patches of the game occurring and changing the statistics of certain things. This is based on the 1.29 version of Killzone 2s multiplayer. Terms I'll use: S&D/d = Search & Destroy/ defend S&D/a = Search & Destroy/ attack Asn/d = Assassination/ defend Asn/a = Assassination/ attack BC = Bodycount C&H = Capture & Hold S&R = Search & Retrieve Note: It is extremely easier to earn most ribbons in matches with all 5 game modes activated instead of Bodycount only. You have more time to perform the task and you can use the objective of other missions as farming areas since the traffic a certain area will get will change for the objective. Medic [MDC] ----------- Earn the ability to throw health packs to heal yourself and others. Health Packs ------------------------------------------------------------------- Simple to earn. You see a green or blue cross on the screen? Whip out the medic gun and revive them. The range on this thing is pretty damn far. The loading screen doesnt lie. Except for the Air Support one, that thing is meant to kill now. D: Combine the Medic's secondary ability with other classes, while unlocking the combination ability. Heal 5 players in one match. The great thing about this is that you can just heal yourself when damaged and it will count towards the ribbon. Exclusive Weapons ----------------- Medic Revival Gun This can be used to kill an enemy, surprisingly. Its an electric change so why wouldnt it? It takes about 3-4 on someone with full health (4-6 on Assault). Engineer [ENG] -------------- Earn the ability to repair objects on the battlefield. "Repair & Hack" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- This is something many people have a problem with. I'll tell you the best maps to get turret kills on, and where to place them. Blood Gracht - The highest floor with the walkway over the middle of the map is a good place to put a turret as it has a clear view on a good area of the battlefield. Mainly that middle area is best for getting kills, regardless of the floor, but that walkway can has a great chance. When the battle has moved to the canal, place them on the overhead part of the tunnel in the middle of the map. Another clear view, and can still control the area behind it. Tharsis Depot - This is mainly directed to S&D/d for the ISA. The 2nd floor walkway that shows a good view of the area is the best place for turrets as it is overhead and had a good view of the area. Another place is also far back where you might see people snipe (along a wall) on the main floor. In C&H, the spot near the Helghast main base is a good spot to place turrets that can see their main base if you're on the ISA or even if you're Helghast trying to fight for the base. Corinth Crossing - One of my least favourite maps, but still useful for the ribbons. Try placing them above the middle of the map (lowest part) on the sides that have turrets on them. They get a good view of the spot where the two factions usually meet, but are so high that many attacks can result in a headshot. Another part is the very highest part of the bridge. Place them along the sides of the platform, like where the ammo box is. Radec Academy - A lot of great place, but I'll name the best. S&R usually has a huge fight break out in that one room that connects the other two rooms where you deliver the targets, but the corners are where you place turrets. For some reason, people just ignore them, and grenades tend to not land near them as much since people try to throw them from one room to the other. The balconies are good spots, and the library on the Helghast side of the map (2nd floor part of it, with the mountable turret and ammo box) tend to do well in C&H when in groups. Combine the Engineer's secondary ability with other classes, while unlocking the combination ability. Just repair 5 things in one match. This doesn't work for repairing Sentry Turrets. Just get there before anyone else, or blow it up and re-repair it. Exclusive Weapons ----------------- None. Tactician [TCN] This class was a pain in the ass before a certain patch. ---------------------------------------------------------- Earn the ability to throw down a beacon to call in Air Support (Flying Sentry Bot). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Just have 5 people spawn from a spawn grenade in one match and you got a ribbon. This can be done easily in Bodycount. Just make sure it's ****ing useful and not in front of your own main ****ing base. Combine the Tactician's secondary ability with other classes, while unlock the combination ability. This was so ****ing hard to do before, but I managed to earn 7/8 of the ribbons before the the patch that boosted the Air Support power & health. :D But now, they're deadly and can really help control an area. Fun Fact: This ability is absolutely useless on Vetka Cruiser. Here are the best places for this. Corinth Crossing - The highest level and the bridge sections are always good Air Support bait. Especially in S&R since a huge battle for control of the top level always breaks out with Air Support stealing tons of kills. It's also pretty useful in S&D here too. Visari Hammer - Such a huge area, and for some reason they feel like snipers and attempt to kill you from long range. With little are to hide in since it's such a huge open map (if you're outside), it will hunt down anyone is gets a lock on. Pyrrhus Rise - S&D on either side is always a kill-stealing fest for this sucker. It performs pretty well in S&R and C&H. Tharsis Depot - Annoying as hell in C&H, and it can actually fly high enough to shoot you from above if you're on the 2nd floor in the middle. Best used for C&H, and ISA S&D/d or (same thing) HG S&D/a. Exclusive Weapons| ------------------ None. Assault [ALT] ------------- Ah yes, the class everyone loves and hates... Combine the Assault's secondary ability with other classes, while unlocking the combination ability. ---------------------------------- Simple. If you want to do something useful for your team besides running into the S&D area and blasting a rocket hoping you get like 5 kills while killing yourself, use this on S&R since the armor might help while boosting with/to the propaganda speaker/return point. The basic way to do this is to go on with what you normally do, just use Boost while you do it. The other ability is the armor you always have. Exclusive Weapons | ------------------- M327 Grenade Launcher A normal grenade launcher. Takes some time to get used to, but can be good if mastered. M80 Rocket Launcher It has a scope, and a weird sway when you first fire it. But after firing, it straightens up, and hits high speeds. It can also lock on to the Engineers Stationary Sentry Bots and Tacticians Flying Sentry Bots. (hold R1 and keep cross-hair on bot, will fire automatically). Saboteur [SBT] This is a class that can be supremely deadly, or supremely useless depending on your play-style. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Get 5 kills while disguised to unlock C4 Proximity Mines ---------------------------------------------------------- Don't try to be all ninja, just run around cloaked and go for kills as you normally would. Pro-tip: The disguise is more "believable" when you're Helghast as there are not much tells unless you're up-close. The disguise the ISA uses has no glowing red eyes. This actually helps when running around trying to flank as people won't be able to tell as easily from a distance. Combine the Saboteur's secondary ability with other classes, while unlocking the combination ability. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Place C4 in areas the enemy is bound to run past. Like a doorway in Radec, or on stairs or on a wall someone would run past surely. It will take 2 to kill any soldier, but 3 to kill an Assault. You can also throw these on someone, enemy or teammate. What Ive usually done is throw them on a teammate who is about to run into a huge group of enemies once he runs near one, they will explode. Think of it as a suicide bomber without the suicide. Also, if you throw one on an enemy, it will explode instantly after it has been active (green light is blinking). For me, this medal was best earned on Blood Gracht in all game mode matches. The small corridors are heaven for this. And a special tip for everyone: The Helghast side of the map has that really small room that you run into when you leave the main base going down the walkway, right? It's so small that C4 on the ceiling will still be active. If your team is pushing back the Helghast, this is a kill-farm. Or on rounds of HG S&D/d, this works too. You have to be on the ISA faction for abuse this map design flaw. Exclusive Weapons ------------------ StA14 Rifle A 2-shot-kill gun with headshots that cause exploding heads. Best used in hip-fire when crouching as the sights will pinch in so closely that anything making them red is almost a guaranteed hit when fired. Scout [SCT] The sniper, my personal go-to class.| ------------------------------------- Earn the Spot & Mark ability. This puts a cross-hair one any enemy scanned, and marks them on the radar until they die. ---------------------------------------------------- This is really the only one you could boost for if you are TERRIBLE, and I mean TERRIBLE at sniping. I don't mean like 20-22, I mean like you get 1 kill out of the 24 bullets the thing can hold. But here's a better solution: Use the M4 Magnum, or go pick up another gun and just go kill people. If you are willing to actually snipe, Pyrrhus Rise is pretty good, but don't snipe very long distances as you won't be able to see much. Try sniping from areas like the building near the 3 bridges to the spot where HG S&D/d happens. If you can handle it, go ahead, but here are my recommendations. Corinth Crossing - The little rooms on the actual bridge part on the Helghast side is useful for sniping people on the high part during C&H or S&R. The high part is also great for sniping people during S&D. You can also snipe on the 3rd floor (floor under the highest part, basically the bridge) to the meeting point of the map. Visari Hammer - The rooms where S&D takes place are perfect for protecting the opposite rooms or even just the huge area below for S&R. Just watch out for Air Support and sometimes Turrets; they can be beastly at times (especially Air Support). But really, anywhere you feel comfortable sniping in is best. Also, if you're in CQC, the sniper rifle can sometime be great in a "PANIC! HIT R1!" situation as its a one-hit-kill to normal classes. Combine the Scout's secondary ability with other classes, while unlocking the combination ability AND unlock the 5x zoom for the VC32 Sniper rifle. ----------------------------------------------------- To use the zoom, hit Up on the D-pad. No point in using Spot & Mark on other classes unless you're "sniping with the StA14 (Saboteur's other gun [StA14], not the SMG). Exclusive Weapons ---------------------- VC32 Sniper Rifle One hit kill to anyone at or under the maximum health for normal classes. Assaults take two shots to kill with any amount of armour. Basic Soldier Class [BSC] ------------------------- The exclusive weapons for this are the Helghast LMG (StA3), and the ISA LMG (M224-1A) HG LMG can be a mega-beast, but accuracy is hard to manage for newcomers to the gun. If you spend some time with it, you'll master it quickly. Just remember to burst fire. The ISA LMG has a slower rate of fate and is a little hard to manage when firing, but can be fired full auto (holding R1 until the gun stops and you hope everyone is dead). I havent used it that much, but I'll get around to it at some point. A funny thing you can see is in matches with the Assault class banned, check if the basic soldier also has the VC9 banned. Some hosts forget to ban this and the VC9 rocket launcher is still available. Exclusive Weapons ----------------------- StA3 LMG One of the greatest guns in the game, campaign and multiplayer. Not meant to be fired while moving, but in very close quarters, just spray. When firing long range, crouch and fire in bursts. M224-1A LMG High powered, but make sure you can keep up with the targets motions as the iron sights are hard to get used to. Extra Tips ----------- Use the flashlight on the shotgun (L1). Not because it helps you see, but when the light is covering most of the enemy, youll get an idea of how accurate the shot will be, more than the circular reticule will give. It sounds weird, but it really helps. I dont know if it blinds the enemy, but that would be pretty cool, right? When sniping, move around after a few kills. Especially if other people are guaranteed to snipe on the map. Counter-snipers are your worst enemy when sniping. When you melee with a pistol, that counts as a pistol kill that can go towards the Quick Draw medal (this gives you the M4 Magnum pistol). Youll want the M4 Magnum because its a 1 shot kill, 2 at max health, and 3 on Assaults. Great for using on any class, but extremely useful on the Scout and Assault. Special Thanks To: carloravelli Got the names of some weapons off his FAQ, helped with the intro stuff on this FAQ. FAMOUS902 (PSN) Showed me how amazing the Helghast LMG can be.
