Assumptions and Guidelines [HfdEcN]

It is assumed that the reader has Gran Turismo driving experience. The FAQ does
not offer any suggestions or advice in regards to basic driving techniques or
car tuning. It is also assumed that the reader is familiar with the circuits
being raced.
For those that meet those assumptions, this guide demonstrates how to play
through the A-Spec game without requiring that any race be raced more than once.
The FAQ attempts to avoid buying used cars as much as possible due to the fact
that the used car dealership inventory is on a rotation and not all used cars
are available all the time.
Doing the races and buying cars and car upgrades when the FAQ says to do so will
ensure that the reader does not run out of credits. Rarely does the FAQ
recommend buying every upgrade for a car; therefore, it is usually possible to
reduce the difficulty of the more challenging races by purchasing more upgrades
than the FAQ recommends. Doing this may mean that the reader might have to farm
some credits.

Each Racing Series (Sunday Cup, etc) will have a "Car Raced" which is the car I
used in the races in that Racing Series. I will list any upgrades below the Car
Raced. It is assumed that all cars I race are stock, with stock tunings unless
otherwise specified. Cars that come with upgrades by default are assumed to be
in stock condition with those upgrades applied; therefore, I will only list the
"after market" upgrades that I purchase. Each race in all of the Racing Series's
has an "MoV", margin of victory, that will give the reader an idea of how easy
or difficult the race will be.

Before we can do any racing or license testing, we are forced to purchase a car.
There are a few ways to go here. One option is to spend as little money on this
mandatory car purchase to save money for upgrades later on. A second route is to
buy a car that we can use to win a race with. Even though the Beginner Sunday
Cup race has a VITZ (2000 model) as a prize car, it's not really good enough for
the VITZ race. So, let's buy a brand new 2007 model that comes with 21HP more
stock horse power and 14ft-lb more stock torque. This will save us money on
upgrades when we get to the VITZ race.

There are some excellent cars to win as rewards for getting bronze, silver,
and/or gold on the license exams. We're going to need to get all silver in the B
License tests and all bronze in the A License tests. Please be patient when
attempting the license tests because they are challenging.
Completing the B License with all silver and the A License with all bronze will
confirm that the reader of this FAQ has the skills necessary to crush the
competition throughout this game.

The problem in this race is the VITZ's we're racing against are highly tuned.
They definitely have at least a 6 Speed Close-Ratio Transmission because they
are able to gain speed on the straightaway faster than the VITZ we're using. I
wouldn't recommend trying the 5 Speed Tranny because the top speed is not going
to be as high as with the 6 Speed.
Luckily, the VITZ drivers aren't doing anything spectacular with their
cornering, which means that we have a little more than half of the track to pull
ahead of the competition before hitting the straight. It's possible some folks
might need an extra upgrade or two to pull this race off. I would recommend
trying the race with the setup I recommend, and if you lose, spend the money you
won on some more upgrades.

Before beginning the European Classic Car Championship, we're going to need to
purchase a used Jaguar E-TYPE Coupe. If luck is on our side, there will be one
in the used car dealership. Otherwise, we will need to force the used car
dealership to swap out their inventory. To accomplish this, we can begin doing
the IC License tests. Do two tests at a time. Exit the license test and check
the used car dealership. Keep doing this until the Jaguar appears there. This
car will be used in the World Classic Car Series and FR Challenge, so it's well
worth the effort.
Last but not least, I had to do 7 of the IC license events before this car
showed up. Please be patient, the car will show up! Good luck!
Make sure to get the oil changed in the Jaguar.

We're looking to raise our level to level 12. I am listing the results for the
Special Events that I did to achieve that level. If those events prove difficult
to complete, don't hesitate to try different Special Events, or try to get a
better result on one of them.
In the Kart Series (Beginner and Intermediate) we are going for all Gold. The
kart races are not that difficult once the difference in handling from a regular
car is understood. Anyone that can get all silver on the B Licenses should be
able to get all Gold in the Beginner and Intermediate races here.
In the AMG Driving Academy, we are going for just the Bronze medals. Silver
isn't too difficult to obtain assuming the reader is familiar with the
Nürburgring Nordschleife... If not, then Bronze is definitely doable with
practice. Luckily, Bronze is all that is required by this FAQ.

The trick on this one is to get behind the Lowes cars. I know that the red
Energizer car is further ahead to start, but the Lowes car always seems to pass
him up. So, there is a much better draft using the Lowes car. Silver isn't the
easiest to come by here, but it's really not difficult after getting acquainted
with the correct line to drive.

The Bugatti is very heavy and turns like a battleship. The key here is braking
early. The car's acceleration is more than enough to make up for the early

The margins of victory in these two races was small. But the races were not that
difficult. Staying in the lead didn't pose much problem. I just couldn't break
away from the pack. This is the Expert Events though, so by now it shouldn't be
too much problem to handle. The first upgrade I would suggest to make this race
easier are some tires. There aren't many more cheap HP upgrades left, and the
handling could definitely stand to be improved in this MINI COOPER.

After finishing the Expert Series Part II, we're starting to really narrow down
the list of events to gain experience from. There are more Special Events to do.
But, the nature of the Rally Events makes it impossible for me to know for sure
that I can get all bronze and not accidentally get any silvers. The Advanced
Kart races are difficult, and I cannot guarantee that the average driver will be
able to get even a bronze there without serious practice. The AMG Events give
out really nice exp for getting silver, and there's plenty of room for me to
easily get them, but I have tons of experience driving the Ring. Other folks may
find the Ring very difficult, since it has somewhere in the neighborhood of 100
turns.
We do however need to get to level 19 in order to do all but one of the Expert
Events (the Historic Car Race will be completed after winning a decent race car
later on). I will leave it up to the reader to decide which is the best way for
them to gain the needed experience. One could do some races over again, attempt
to improve their results on the License Tests, or do some more Special Events. I
will document the path I take, but again, the choices I make here will not have
as much universal appear as I hope the earlier portions of the FAQ do.

Still need much more experience to get to level 19. The Seasonal Events, which
were added to Gran Turismo after the writing of this FAQ was begun via update
1.05 provides a way to gain lots of experience in a short amount of time.
As these events are changing regularly, there's no reason to list which ones I
did. I will say that buying the car that is required, and squeezing in any
upgrades possible will give a good challenge. I was able to win some races, and
others I came in second place. Do the best you can. There really isn't any way
to "power" through this. Skill is required here.

I can't get a certain used car, what do I do? [FPJsjY]

Early on in the FAQ, it is very helpful to get a Jaguar E-Type Coupe from the
used dealer. In three different times of playing through my FAQ, I got the
Jaguar without any problems. However, that's merely anecdotal and I'm well aware
of the fact that there are players having a more difficult time of getting the
car. I would suggest doing Special Events, Seasonal Events, or Online Racing in
order to advance the used dealership. The Special Events and Seasonal Events are
touched on in the FAQ, so doing those won't take the reader off course.
If a certain used car cannot be found, don't hesitate to email me your
suggestions for a different car. If you have a credit worthy suggestion, please
include what name you'd like to be credited as, or else you'll end up as
"anonymous".

Yes. Early on, I thought to do beginner a-spec and b-spec events side by side,
but I realized that b-spec races would have to be raced repeatedly to level up
the b-spec driver. So I put off b-spec until the a-spec is complete so that I
can use over powered cars to eliminate as much as possible the need to grind
b-spec driver levels.

I will look at it eventually. I am open for suggestions, and have already
received one, for which I thank the sender of that email. The deal is, I have
the requirement that I need to know exactly how much experience I'm going to get
from a race so that the readers of the FAQ can know that they will always be at
or above the level I am, if they do everything the FAQ asks them to do. The
Rally races make it impossible to know 100% for sure if I'm going too fast for a
Silver. Therefore, I can't ensure that I can get all bronze medals. I doubt the
Rally races are easy enough for me to recommend a way to "power" through to
golds merely based on cars/upgrades.
So, the Rally Events will have to wait until experience isn't really an issue
(i.e., the a-spec section must be complete).

I appreciate everyone that has asked this question. It let's me know there is
great interest in my work. I'm sure most folks already know that I have a
website that is a companion for this FAQ and the website is being developed
along side the creation of the FAQ. Actually, the website takes considerably
more time to develop than the FAQ does. This is making the FAQ take longer than
I would like to create. Rest assured, that steady progress is always being
made.
Feel free to send me an email if you would like to get an idea of when a new
version of the FAQ might be available. I'm shooting for once every two weeks.
But that isn't always possible.

from the license tests, rather than purchased from the dealerships. In addition,

using a 458 Italia. These changes allow spending less money in the long run.

The a-spec Professional Events are complete. 7 out of 9 Expert Events are
complete. It was necessary to delve into the Special and Seasonal Events in
order to gain credits and experience. I was hoping that would not be necessary,
since it was never necessary to do anything but a-spec and licenses to power
through GT3 and GT4. Unfortunately, Polyphony Digital has seen fit to force
players to take more detours on their a-spec journey.
