III. Introduction
Hello, and welcome to my Dynasty Warriors 7 walkthrough for the Kingdom of
Shu's Story Mode! I'm a longtime fan of the Dynasty Warriors series, and after
hearing about the changes that were being made to the latest iteration, I had
to give it a try. I found myself enjoying the changes that were made to the
game, and I decided to write this FAQ so that DW veterans and newcomers to the
series alike could fully enjoy their romps through Shu's Story Mode.

In contrast to the earlier Dynasty Warriors games, this one assigns you a
specific character for each battle. You'll control nine different warriors as
you fight to unify China, so it will pay to familiarize yourself with each
character's fighting style. Participating in battles will earn you gold that
can be used to buy more powerful weapons, and every character can bring two
weapons into battle and swap between them at any time. The strategies that can
be employed by pairing different types of weapons are numerous, and you'll need
both clever tactics and quick reflexes to survive the battles that lie ahead.
If you're struggling to use a character to his or her fullest or complete an
especially challenging battle, I hope this FAQ will give you the knowledge you
need to succeed.

All information in this FAQ was collected while playing through the game on
Hard difficulty. The same strategies should still apply when playing on easier
difficulty settings, but playing on Chaos will require greater caution. Good
luck!

V. Battle Walkthroughs
A. Volume 1
This volume chronicles Liu Bei's tenures of service under He Jin, Yuan Shao,
and Cao Cao.

1. Yellow Turban Rebellion - Part 1
Player Character: Liu Bei
Victory Conditions: Defeat Cheng Yuanzhi and Deng Mao.
Defeat Conditions: All peasants are defeated.

This battle is essentially a warm-up exercise. The four peasants have decent
lasting power, and the Yellow Turban officers are weaklings. Head southwest and
cut down Deng Mao first, then wind your way between the houses to reach Cheng
Yuanzhi and punish him for harassing the peasants. Take all the time you need
to familiarize yourself with the controls, because it only gets harder from
this point onward.

2. Yellow Turban Rebellion - Part 2
Player Character: Liu Bei
Victory Conditions: Defeat Zhang Jiao.
Defeat Conditions: He Jin is defeated.

After spending your gold on new weapons, leave your stronghold and head south-
west to find Zhang Mancheng. Defeat him and sweep across the south side of the
battlefield, cutting down Yan Zheng, Guan Hai, and Zhang Yan to stop the Yellow
Turbans' offensive. Your allies will begin marching north; follow them up the
central path and defeat Gao Sheng, then continue along the path until Zhang
Liang uses his magic to create a rockslide. He Yi and Huang Shao will arrive
from the central western entry point as reinforcements; intercept and dispatch
them both before they reach He Jin.

Once the south is secure, follow the path to reach Zhang Liang and slice him up
to stop the rockslide. His boulders can't kill you, but they can deplete your
life rapidly, so avoid them as best you can. Double back for Bo Cai, then con-
tinue your northward advance until Zhang Bao summons a windstorm. Guan Yu will
mention a path that will allow you to take Zhang Bao by surprise. It leads up
the western side of the battlefield, and the boulders that block it will disap-
pear after Guan Yu's speech as long as Zhang Liang is no longer alive. Follow
the path and climb the cliff, striking down Liu Pi when you meet him, and take
the left path when the road forks to get the drop on Zhang Bao. His troops will
stand around stunned as you slice him into ribbons. Carve a path northeast
through Sun Zhong, Zhao Hong, and Han Zhong as your allies catch up to you,
then head north and step onto the dais to start the fight with Zhang Jiao. He
will conjure geysers of flame, but they won't hit you as long as you stay near
the edges of the dais. Smash the four cauldrons to dispel the flames, then de-
feat Zhang Jiao to put an end to his rebellion.

The dim sum is in a pot just south of Zhang Mancheng's starting position.

3. Elimination of Dong Zhuo - Part 1
Player Character: Guan Yu
Victory Conditions: Defeat Li Ru and Hu Zhen.
Defeat Conditions: Yuan Shao or Liu Bei are defeated.

Si Shui Gate is the first major obstacle between you and the fat tyrant Dong
Zhuo, and Hua Xiong will do his best to stop you from breaching it. Follow the
far eastern path to the south and engage him as he charges Yuan Shao. He will
rally to refill his life; keep up the pressure him and chase him down when he
attempts to flee. Cut your way through Fan Chou to reach the center of the bat-
tlefield and take out Dong Huang and Cai Yang to boost Sun Jian's morale.

Solving Sun Jian's food shortage problem is your next goal. Defeat Wang Fang as
you progress to the northwest corner, then take down Niu Fu and Zhang Xiu to
reopen the supply lines. Head east and dispatch Zhang Ji is he's still intact,
then go south along the western path and eliminate Guo Si and Dong Min. Enter
the enemy's main camp and give yourself some breathing room by clearing out Li
Meng, Xu Rong, and Hu Che'er, then go after Li Ru and Hu Zhen. Hua Xiong will
come back for a second bout when they fall; slay him to finish the battle.

The dim sum is in a pot by the east entrance to the enemy's main camp, near Xu
Rong's starting position.

4. Elimination of Dong Zhuo - Part 2
Player Character: Guan Yu
Victory Conditions: Defeat Dong Zhuo.
Defeat Conditions: Yuan Shao or Liu Bei are defeated.

It's time to take the fight to Dong Zhuo's doorstep! Cut a swath of destruction
through the peons as you head southwest, and you'll soon meet Lu Bu. Your sworn
brothers will back you up, but you won't need their help to survive - just run
around in circles and avoid his attacks until the catapults are in position. As
soon as they're close enough to bombard the gate, Lu Bu will leave the battle-
field. Say a prayer of thanks or condemn him as a coward as you see fit; you'll
have a chance to fight him soon enough.

You'll have a little time to spare as the catapults bombard the gate. Use it to
wipe out Wei Xu, Gao Shun, Cao Xing, and Yang Ding as they attack you, and cut
down Ma Richan, Zhang Wen, and Zang Ba once you're able to make it to the other
side. Backtrack to deal with Li Su, Song Xian, and Yang Biao when they arrive,
then make your way to the southwest corner for Fu Wan and Wang Yun. Head north
to find Hou Cheng and Zhang Liao, whose defeat will allow you to access Dong
Zhuo's main camp. He's protected by Cai Yong, Dong Yue, and Diao Chan, but will
be an easy target once they fall.

The dim sum is in a pot just east of your starting position.

5. Battle of Xu Province
Player Character: Zhang Fei
Victory Conditions: Defeat Cao Cao.
Defeat Conditions: Tao Qian is defeated.

Tao Qian needs your help to defend his territory from Cao Cao. Assist him by
heading northeast and saving him from Yu Jin and Guo Jia, then proceed south
for Cao Hong and beat him into submission to open the gates of Xuzhou Castle.
Defeat Niu Jin and Xu You, then recapture the castle by eliminating Cao Ren.
Meet and beat Man Chong and Xiahou Yuan when they strike out for Tao Qian, then
go west for Cheng Yu and defeat Xu Zhu and the Defense Captains to capture the
central garrison. Cut down Zhu Ling, Xiahou En, and Yue Jin as they charge,
then go west along the forking path. Liu Dai will attack from the north as Liu
Ye and Lu Qian attack from the south, and the three will try to catch you in a
pincer attack. Thwart their ploy, and Lu Bu will show up to reinforce you. Fol-
low his path of destruction and cut down Xiahou Dun and any members of the Cao
clan Lu Bu misses on his way to the main camp. Climb the south face of the hill
and defeat Li Dian to open the gates of Cao Cao's camp, then send Dian Wei and
Cao Cao packing.

The dim sum is in a pot to the north of the central garrison, just west of Zhu
Ling's starting position.

6. Battle of Xiapi
Player Character: Guan Yu
Victory Conditions: Defeat Lu Bu.
Defeat Conditions: Cao Cao is defeated.

With Cao Cao's help, you might be able to retake your lands from Lu Bu. Make
victory a certainty by sweeping east for Song Xian and southeast for Hou Cheng.
Once the east side of the battlefield is clear, head northwest and defeat Cheng
Lian. The flood attack will commence, and Zhang Liao will charge out of the
northeast garrison. Intercept him and stop him from reaching Cao Cao, and Yuan
Shu will appear to aid Lu Bu. He'll bring Ji Ling, Lei Bo, and Li Feng along
to help, and the four will try to attack your main camp from the south. Deal
with them appropriately.

With all threats to Cao Cao neutralized and Xiapi Castle flooded, you'll be
free to attack it. Defeat Zang Ba at the south gate, then loop around to the
west gate and take out Cao Xing to open it. The six ballistae atop the castle
walls will start raining death upon you, so climb the stairs and smash them
along with Xu Si. Scour Wang Kai and Hao Meng from the outer courtyard and en-
ter the inner courtyard to trigger an ambush by Gao Shun and Chen Gong. Strike
them down to open the gates of Lu Bu's main camp, then engage Diao Chan and
Lu Bu. He will become enraged if Diao Chan falls first, so be forewarned.

The dim sum is in a pot to the north of the central gate to the castle's inner
courtyard.

7. Battle of Guandu
Player Character: Zhao Yun
Victory Conditions: Defeat Cao Cao.
Defeat Conditions: Yuan Shao or Liu Bei are defeated.

Yuan Shao expects you to help him win the battle against Cao Cao. Get him off
to a good start by eliminating Yu Jin and Yue Jin. Xu You will defect and burn
the supply depot at Wuchao. Head east, cutting down any enemies in your path,
and cross the river at the eastern ford to see Guan Yu slay Yan Liang and Wen
Chou. Yuan Shao will brand you a traitor and order his army to kill you as Guan
Yu withdraws.

With every officer on the battlefield out for your blood, your new objective is
to escort Liu Bei to the escape point in the southeast. Stay close him as he
heads for Wu Chao, where Xu You and Zhang He will threaten him. Defeat the two
of them, then deal with Li Dian and Zhang Liao when they launch their ambush.
Cao Pi, Cao Zhang, and Song Xian will attack you in the hamlet. Protect Liu Bei
from these new aggressors and hurry to the escape point. Yuan Shao will appear
with Zhen Ji and try to stall you until his army can catch up to you. Fight off
all comers until Liu Bei is able to escape.

The dim sum is in a pot in the northeast corner of the Wuchao supply depot.

B. Volume 2
This volume chronicles Liu Bei's early conflicts with Cao Cao and his discovery
of a land in which to establish the Kingdom of Shu.

1. Battle of Xinye
Player Character: Zhang Fei
Victory Conditions: Defeat Cao Hong.
Defeat Conditions: Liu Bei is defeated.

Following Xu Shu's advice will net you a quick victory in this battle. Start by
heading west for Lu Zhao and then southwest for Zhu Ling, whose defeat will
lower the drawbridge. Cross it, and you'll find yourself inside the Eight Gates
Formation. It's a maze of shields and spears that will damage you if you ap-
proach them too closely. Stay away from the shield wall and break the formation
by hunting down Lu Kuang in the south, Li Dian in the west, and Lu Xiang in the
north. Exit to the southwest and beat Feng Kai senseless. When Yue Jin and Cao
Hong attempt to flee south, chase them down and beat them into submission.

The dim sum is in a pot across the bridge to the north of the Eight Gates For-
mation.

2. Battle of Changban - Part 1
Player Character: Zhao Yun
Victory Conditions: Rescue Adou.
Defeat Conditions: The Cao Cao forces find Adou.

Your goal here is to find Liu Bei's infant son before Cao Cao's army does. You
should start your search in the central garrison, where Xun Yu lies in wait.
After dealing with him, head to the garrison in the east and defeat Li Dian.
You'll be told that Adou was seen in the northwest garrison, which Cao Hong is
rapidly approaching. You'll have to pass through the northeast garrison and Zhu
Ling to reach it, as well as Xiahou Shang. After reaching the garrison, take
down Cao Hong to find Adou.

An escape point will appear by Zhang Fei after the cutscene, and Yue Jin and
Wen Pin will appear in the north. Send them running away with their tails be-
tween their legs and stop by the northernmost garrison, in which Xiahou En will
ambush you. Defeating him nets you an Attack +8 and allows you to leave the
garrison, from which you should progress to the south. Zhang He will launch
another ambush when you enter the northeast garrison, but breaking free should
pose few problems. Go west, defeat Xun You and Cao Chun, and let Zhang Fei han-
dle the rest.

3. Battle of Changban - Part 2
Player Character: Zhang Fei
Victory Conditions: Cao Cao is defeated, or Zhao Yun reaches the escape point.
Defeat Conditions: Zhao Yun is defeated.

You'll start this battle by setting the Changban Bridge on fire, which will
trap you on the north bank of the river with several enemy officers. Stay where
you are and skewer them as they come within reach of your voulge. Cao Cao's
engineers will eventually arrive to extinguish the fire, at which point you'll
be free to work your way towards the escape point in the southwest. Eliminate
any enemies who cross your path as you proceed. Yue Jin and Zhang Liao will at-
tack Zhao Yun as he approaches his destination; defeat them to clear his path,
and either wait for him to escape or pummel Cao Cao to finish the battle.

The dim sum is in a pot on the south face of the bluff located south of the
Changban Bridge.

4. Battle of Chibi - Part 1
Player Character: Zhao Yun
Victory Conditions: Defeat Cao Cao.
Defeat Conditions: Zhao Yun is defeated.

The battle against Cao Cao's navy begins with an exciting twist. Board the at-
tack ship with Liu Qi and man the ballista to sink the three ships that engage
you. The southeast wind will start blowing and change your ship's course. Use
the ballista to shoot the archers on the surrounding ships and repel Li Dian
and Yue Jin when they board you. As your ship closes in on Cao Cao, Xu Huang
will attack. Defeat him and disembark once the boat stops, then head to the
north shore. You'll soon encounter Xu Zhu, who's bound and determined not to
let you reach Cao Cao. Reward his dedication to his lord by introducing him to
the head of your spear.

5. Battle of Chibi - Part 2
Player Character: Guan Yu
Victory Conditions: Defeat Cao Cao.
Defeat Conditions: Zhuge Liang is defeated or Cao Cao reaches the escape point.

It's a race to catch Cao Cao before he escapes! Start by heading east to take
out Zang Ba, then following the path east and north for Zhang Liao. Follow the
western path and defeat Jiang Gan, who guards a wall of fire. Backtrack to the
east, cutting down Yu Jin as you do, then proceed north and west along the path
to reach Li Tong. Felling him will rescue Zhang Fei and extinguish the flames,
opening the way to Xiahou Yuan. Approach him, and the gate he defends will slam
shut. Defeat both him and Cheng Yu, and your allies will discover a shortcut to
the north. Double back, climb the ladder, and stab westward through Cao Hong
and Zhu Ling. Continue on to Cao Cao, who will be assisted by Cao Ren once you
engage him. Eliminate them, and you've won the day.

The dim sum is in a pot by the gate to the east of the escape point.

6. Battle of Luo Castle
Player Character: Pang Tong
Victory Conditions: Defeat Liu Xun.
Defeat Conditions: Wei Yan or Pang Tong are defeated.

You want to stay close to Wei Yan during this battle. Follow him southwest to
Gao Pei and Yan Huai, and southeast to Deng Xian after dispatching them both.
Climb the ladder along the western wall of the path and jump into the garrison
to surprise Wu Lan, following the southern path after you defeat him. Get the
drop on Yan Yan and Wu Yi in the next garrison, then follow the path west and
north. Zhang Ren will ambush and wound you, and you should take your vengeance
on both him and Lu Yi as they attack. Go across the bridge and proceed south to
meet Pang Yi and Wu Ban. Defeating them will allow Zhao Yun to appear and help
you; follow him and Wei Yan through the south gate of Luo Castle and eliminate
Deng Zhi, Lei Tong, and Zhang Yi as you encounter them. Yang Hong and Peng Yang
will loop around the castle's west wall to attack you; intercept them and beat
them down. Things will be quite chaotic inside the castle by now, so slip in-
side and use the chaos to make quick work of Liu Xun.

The dim sum is in a pot on a cliff, near Zhang Ren's starting position.

7. Battle of Chengdu
Player Character: Zhuge Liang
Victory Conditions: Defeat Liu Zhang.
Defeat Conditions: Liu Bei is defeated.

Liu Bei will soon have a land to call his own! You can help him secure it by
heading north and defeating Liu Jun, then following the path north and west to
reach Chengdu Castle. Wipe out Lu Yi and Zhang Yi to capture it, then continue
north along the path for Xu Jing. Go west and strike down Fei Guan and Fei Shi
to open the gate. Ma Chao and Ma Dai will arrive to reinforce Liu Zhang once
you pass through, and Li Hui will take a roundabout route to parley with them.
Protect him as he proceeds along the southern path, clearing it of obstacles
such as Huang Quan, Dong He, and Ma Han. When you confront Liu Xun and Deng Zhi
at the bridge, stay on guard. The arbalest on the opposite bank will pepper you
with arrows as you fight them, so you may want to cross the bridge and disable
it before dealing with them. Exterminate Liu Ba, Zhou Qun, and Pang Yi if they
get in Li Hui's way. Ma Chao and Ma Dai will defect once he reaches them, and
their support will make the rest of the battle a cakewalk. Mop up the remaining
officers, then confront Liu Zhang and annex his lands by force.

The dim sum is in a pot in the large garrison near Chengdu Castle.

C. Volume 3
This volume chronicles Shu's later campaigns against Wei and Wu.

1. Battle of Mt. Dingjun
Player Character: Huang Zhong
Victory Conditions: Defeat Cao Cao.
Defeat Conditions: Zhuge Liang is defeated.

Some people, like fine wine or cheese, just get better with age. Prove that
Huang Zhong is one of them by intercepting Cao Hong, Cao Zhen, and Cheng Yu as
they approach the east face of Mt. Chaqi. Thwart their assault on your main
camp and deal with Wang Ping when he approaches. Next, flush Zhang He and Jiang
Gan out of the central garrison to capture it, then head south and drive off
Xiahou Yuan and Wang Shuang to secure the center of the battlefield. Head for
the garrison in the south, perforate Xiahou Dun and Cao Zhang to capture it,
and fill Li Dian full of arrows to clear a path for Wei Yan. Escort Yan Yan
along the northern path, blasting your way through Xiahou Shang and Xiahou De,
and finish off Xiahou Yuan when he reappears. Enter the supply depot and cut
down Han Hao to set it ablaze. Ma Chao and Wei Yan will begin their offensive
push, and Cao Xiu and Dian Man will come after you. Turn them into pincushions,
then make your way to the southeast corner and follow the path up Mt. Dingjun.
Sima Yi and Yue Jin will launch an ambush when you reach the garrison; power
through them and defeat Cao Cao to claim victory.

The dim sum is in a pot in the northwest corner of the central garrison.

2. Battle of Fan Castle - Part 1
Player Character: Guan Yu
Victory Conditions: Defeat Cao Ren.
Defeat Conditions: Guan Yu is defeated.

This is where the God of War will earn his title. Head northeast and obliterate
Zhai Yuan and Xiahou Cun to open the gates of Xiangyang. Annihilate Lu Chang to
claim it as your own. Wei reinforcements will arrive from the west and east,
but those under Yu Jin can be safely ignored. Proceed west and defeat Cheng He,
Wen Pin, and Xiahou Shang to secure the garrison, then open the floodgates to
make the castle vulnerable. Board the ship, and it will sail across the water
and deploy a gangplank that will allow you to access the castle courtyard. Niu
Jin and Cao Tai will scramble to defend it. Sima Yi will soon arrive from the
north to support them, and he'll bring Jiang Ji, Dong Heng, and Dong Chao along
with him. Repel as many of the enemy officers as you can, and defeat Niu Jin
and Cao Tai to finish the first part of the battle.

3. Battle of Fan Castle - Part 2
Player Character: Guan Suo
Victory Conditions: Guan Yu and Guan Suo reach the escape point.
Defeat Conditions: Guan Yu is defeated.

Wei and Wu have formed a deadly alliance, and Guan Yu needs his son's help to
survive it. Follow him to the southeast and defeat Yu Fan, Huan Jie, and Dong
Zhao to clear the garrison. Continue south until you encounter Zhou Tai and Lu
Meng, who will soon be joined by Han Dang. These three can be deadly, and the
ballistae that rain death on you from the hilltops don't things any easier. If
Guan Yu hasn't been severely weakened, climb the eastern hill and destroy the
ballista there to make things a little easier. Guan Yu will march south once
his path is clear, stopping to battle Jiang Qin and Xu Huang. Take them down
and continue south until Mi Fang and Fu Shiren block your path. Fu Shiren will
fire on you with catapults, which you may want to destroy before dealing with
him and his traitorous friend. Proceed west after beating them, and you'll run
into Xu Sheng. He'll attack you with arrows and support from Pan Jun; strike
them down swiftly before the archers fill you full of holes. Follow Guan Yu
north to Mai Castle, and Ding Feng will attack you. Beat him senseless and en-
ter the castle, and Lu Xun will trap you inside. Pan Zhang and Ma Zhong will
appear to support him. Pummel them all and leave the castle to bring the battle
to an end.

The dim sum is in a pot in the middle of the west wing of Jiangling Castle.

4. Battle of Yiling - Part 1
Player Character: Zhao Yun
Victory Conditions: Rendezvous with Liu Bei.
Defeat Conditions: Liu Bei is defeated.

Wu will begin this battle with a fire attack that drives your army's morale in-
to the ground. It also stops you from crossing the river, so the places you can
search for Liu Bei are limited. Helping your allies is your first priority, and
you can start by descending the cliff and heading south to rescue Wu Ban from
Han Dang. Work your way northeast from there, cutting your way through Mi Fang,
Fu Shiren, Zhou Tai, Zhu Zhi, Liu A, Lu Fan, and Quan Zong and saving any Shu
officers who don't get routed before you finish searching the garrisons. Upon
reaching the northeast corner of the battlefield, head south and approach the
island to find Liu Bei. Yu Fan will attack you as you cross the second bridge,
and Gan Ning will ambush you when you enter the garrison. He's the last enemy
standing between you and Liu Bei, so don't show him any mercy.

The dim sum is in a pot in the second garrison from the west, by Liu Ning's
starting position.

5. Battle of Yiling - Part 2
Player Character: Zhuge Liang
Victory Conditions: Zhao Yun reaches the escape point.
Defeat Conditions: Zhao Yun is defeated.

This battle provides you with several opportunities to use siege weapons. Your
first target should be Liu A, who can be quickly dispatched by the ballista.
Fight your way northeast through Lu Fan and Quan Zong, then backtrack to the
southwest and use the ballista to help you take down Zhu Zhi. Press on to find
Mi Fang and Fu Shiren. The fire should be extinguished soon after they fall,
and you'll be able to find Yue Ying's juggernauts in the garrisons once it is.
These siege engines move slowly and won't last long against a concentrated as-
sault, but their fiery blasts will quickly reduce your enemies to ashes. Use
them to incinerate the rest of the Wu officers on the north bank and secure an
escape route for your allies, then cross the river and fight your way to the
garrison in the southeast. Zhao Yun will be fighting Ling Tong, Ding Feng, Ma
Zhong, Zhu Huan, and Lu Dai there; lend him a hand and he'll start making his
way to the escape point. Mop up the remaining enemy officers until Lu Xun ap-
pears in the southeast garrison. The battle will end once he's defeated or Zhao
Yun escapes.

The dim sum is in a pot in the second garrison from the west.

6. Battle of Tianshui
Player Character: Zhuge Liang
Victory Conditions: Defeat Ma Zun, Cui Liang and Yang Ling.
Defeat Conditions: Liu Shan is defeated.

Liu Bei has passed on, but Zhuge Liang is still determined to make his dream a
reality. Take a step in the right direction by heading northeast at the start
of the battle and annihilating Han Yao, Han Qiong, Han Ying, and Han Qi. Their
father, Han De, will attack you as you continue your march; send him to join
his sons and do battle with any officers who approach Liu Shan. Once he's safe,
follow the western path to reach Anding Castle and capture Cui Liang by besting
him in battle. Wei reinforcements will arrive and charge Liu Shan; head south-
east to intercept them and fight off Zhang He, Cao Zhen, Zhu Zan, and Wang
Lang to save your lord. Next, proceed southeast to Nan'an Castle, and Cui Liang
will convince his allies to open the gates. However, Yang Ling has a ploy of
his own - he'll spring an ambush when you step inside. Beware the archers and
fight your way past Xiahou Mao, Chen Zao, Cao Zun, and Cui Liang, then defeat
Yang Ling to capture the castle. If the enemies overwhelm you, fall back and
try to lure a few of the enemy officers away from their allies. They'll be much
easier to dispatch individually.

Only Tianshui Castle remains now. Advance north through the garrison to reach
it, repelling Liang Qian and Shanggun Zixiu when they attack you, and prepare
for another ambush as you approach the castle gates. Eliminate Guo Huai, Xia
Pi, Yin Shang, Liang Xu, and Sun Li to thwart it. Ma Zun will withdraw, and
Jiang Wei will open the gates. Ma Zun will set the castle on fire once you en-
ter, and Jiang Wei will order his troops to flee. Defeat him, and both he and
the battle will be yours.

The dim sum is in a pot in the garrison north of Nan'an Castle.

7. Battle of the Wuzhang Plains - Part 1
Player Character: Jiang Wei
Victory Conditions: Defeat Sima Shi.
Defeat Conditions: Zhuge Liang is defeated.

You can choose to take either the east or west path at the start of this bat-
tle, though you'll have to take both unless your allies pull their weight. If
you want to follow my lead, you'll head east, where Liu Shao and Man Chong are
waiting. Cut your way through them to capture the garrison, and Xiahou Ba and
Xiahou Hui will launch an attack on your main camp. Backtrack and help your al-
lies repel them, then follow the western path and capture the other garrison if
necessary. Return to your main camp, follow the northern path, and climb the
ladder to the top of the cliff. An ambush unit consisting of Guo Huai, Zheng
Wen, Zhang Hu, and Yue Chen will assault your main camp. Jump off the cliff and
fight them all off, and Sima Shi will appear along with Xiahou He and Sun Li.
Defeat the officers who charge your main camp, then go after Sima Shi and teach
him that haste makes waste.

The dim sum is in a pot atop the cliff that overlooks your main camp.

8. Battle of the Wuzhang Plains - Part 2
Player Character: Jiang Wei
Victory Conditions: Defeat Sima Yi.
Defeat Conditions: Zhuge Liang is defeated.

This battle will determine the fate of Shu, and it's quite the endurance test.
Using a horse to traverse the battlefield is highly recommended. Break up the
enemy offensive by clearing Zhang Hu, Zheng Wen, and Yue Chen from the front
lines, which will allow Yue Ying to deploy her juggernauts. Use them to clear
the north bank of ballistae and archers, whose fire arrows can deal serious
damage. Wipe out Xiahou He and Sun Li to give your troops a firm foothold in
the center of the battlefield, then proceed east to help Ma Dai. Sim Shi will
ambush you, and he'll bring a ballista with him. Smash his toy and spank him
soundly, then save Ma Dai from Man Chong and Liu Shao. Deng Ai will arrive in
the southwest and make a beeline for your main camp, leaving nothing but de-
struction in his wake. Follow the path to the south and west to reach him and
stop him from doing too much damage, then continue west and north along the
path to reach Sima Zhao. Defeat him, and Ma Dai and Wei Yan will be able to
launch their coordinated attack.

Though the tide has turned in your favor, the battle isn't over yet. Accompany
Wei Yan on his march north, and Zhong Hui will appear to menace you. He should
be easy enough to take down, but Sima Yi's all-out attack on your main camp
will pose a more significant threat. Hurry back to Zhuge Liang's side and repel
all of the officers who strike at him. Once he's safe and sound, charge Wei's
main camp and cut down anyone who stands between you and Sima Yi. Without his
allies to protect him, he'll soon fall to your might.

The dim sum is in a pot atop the southern cliff.

After defeating Sima Yi, you can congratulate yourself on completing Story Mode
with Shu. Enjoy the ending!

VI. Questions & Answers
Q: Why a Shu walkthrough?
A: I hadn't done any FAQ writing in awhile, and it seemed like a good way to
compile specific information about one kingdom's Story Mode.

Q: Why did you play through Story Mode on Hard?
A: I'd already completed Wei's Story Mode on Normal, and found it became very
easy at the end. Hard was challenging, though not to the point of aggravation.

Q: Should I play through Story Mode on Chaos?
A: That depends on how much satisfaction you'll get out of it. I find it to be
a little too unforgiving for characters who haven't been built up extensively,
but if you enjoy the thrill of being surrounded by enemies who can dish out and
take as much damage as you can, go for it.

Q: Are you going to write walkthroughs for the other kingdoms?
A: Maybe, if time and interest allow it.

Q: How do you think DW7 compares to the earlier DW games?
A: I don't see any incentive to play on harder difficulty settings aside from a
sense of personal accomplishment, and I have mixed feelings about being unable
to choose my character in Story Mode or play through it cooperatively. However,
I like almost everything else about the game, especially its faithfulness to
the novel.

Q: Who's your favorite character from Shu?
A: Jiang Wei, followed closely by Guan Yu. There's not a single character from
Shu I don't like, though I've never been as fond of Pang Tong as I was when he
appeared in DW3.

Q: Shu sucks! Zhuge Liang is the most overrated "strategist" ever, and no one
with good sense would have served under Liu Bei!
A: That's not a question, though it certainly is questionable. If you really
believe those statements, I suggest you do a little more research using sources
other than Romance of the Three Kingdoms and the Dynasty Warriors games.

Q: Are you saying Romance of the Three Kingdoms is a work of pure fiction?
A: No, but I am saying you shouldn't believe everything you read.

Q: Your FAQ sucks! I've crapped out better FAQs than this!
A: As soon as you find a way to upload excrement, you should post your wondrous
creation for all to see.

Q: I posted my FAQ, and everyone I know thinks it's better than yours! Your FAQ
really DOES suck!
A: Congratulations! I am in awe of your superior FAQ-writing skills! Now go
away.

Q: This is the best FAQ I've ever read! You're a genius and a god among men,
and I want to know more about you so that I can immortalize you!
A: Yeah, I get that a lot. My contact info's listed below.

Q: <insert some question that has nothing to do with the game or the FAQ here>
A: See the second sentence of my previous answer.
