This guide is very long. If you need to find something quickly use the "find"
function on your computer (Ctrl+F on Windows and most other PC's and Apple+F on
Macs) and type in the code that has what you are looking for and scroll
through. This is my first time writing for games like this so, hopefully it
doesn't seem like a giant wall of text

DI1B. Mechanics
===============
This section is mainly to help understand some of the mechanics incorporated in
this game

Fighting
--------
When you first begin the game, you will be wielding a halberd. After your
encounter with Death in Acre, your weapon of choice will become Death's scythe.
There are two main attacks with the scythe: Light and Heavy Attacks. Light
Attacks are quick, slashing attacks and don't take much time to execute. Heavy
Attacks take a little longer to pull of than the Light Attacks, but you will
inflict more damage. As you increase the Unholy Path, you will be able to
purchase more powerful attacks to dispatch your enemies. Another attack that
you will gain access to before entering Hell in the Holy Cross attack. After
finding Beatrice's soul in the church at the beginning, you will be able to
perform the Holy Cross attack. To perform the attack, press O to hurl a cross
of light at an opponent. Pressing O again will send a wave of 3 crosses towards
opponents. This is NOT a regular Magic attack so pressing L1 is not required to
perform the attack. As you increase the Holy Path, you will be able to purchase
an upgrade for this attack the will send a third wave when you press O a third
time. Using Holy Cross will not deplete your mana

Blocking and Counters
---------------------
The creatures of Hell won't let you beat up on them without fighting back. To
block their attacks, hold L2. Some attacks are too powerful to be blocked, so
your only option is to dodge the attacks. You can dodge attacks by jumping or
by moving the right analog stick in the direction you want to move. To counter
attacks, you will first need to purchase the Repayment ability, which can be
purchased early on in the game. If you can time a block against an enemy's
attack, Dante will glow momentarily, which is when you want to attack

Magic
-----
As you progress through Hell, you will be granted magical spells. There are
Holy and Unholy Spells. When you gain access to a new spell, you will be able
add it to your repertoire. You can customize your spells and choose which of
the face buttons you wish to assign it to. You can cast the spell at any time
by pressing L1 and whichever face button you assigned that spell to. When you
run out of mana, you will be unable to cast anymore spells. To refill mana, you
will have to find a Mana Fountain, which have a purple liquid flowing from
them. As you increase the Holy and Unholy paths, you will be able to upgrade
the spells.

Judgment
--------
While fighting bigger enemies, near the end of the fight, an R2 icon may appear
above the enemy. When that appears, you can choose to either absolve the
creature or punish it. To absolve the creature, press the O button and to
punish, press the Square button. You will have to follow the button prompts
that appear on screen to complete the judgment. You can also judge smaller
enemies by grabbing them with the R2 button and choosing whether you want to
absolve them or punish them. You can also punish or absolve the Damned, mortals
who played important parts in history. The Damned have a glow around their body
when you come across them. If you choose to absolve the Damned, you will have
to go through a Forgiveness mini-game. You will have about 40 seconds to
capture sins, which appear from above, below, right, and left. When the sin
crosses over the face buttons, press the corresponding face button to capture
the sin. If the sin reaches the center, you press the wrong button, or you
press the button early, you will lose a captured sin. After time has expired,
you will receive bonus souls equal to the captured sins times 30. If you have
collected all three Beatrice Stones, you will be able to auto-absolve the
Damned in the Forgiveness mini-game. This mini-game is similar to one that
appeared in Jak III for the PS2. Absolving creatures will add to the Holy Path,
while punishing them will add to the Unholy Path

================
DI2. Walkthrough
================
When the game begins, you will be given a brief background on Dante and the
Third Crusade. You will then see a cut scene of Dante alone in the woods,
stitching the cross to his body. The game will then begin and you will take
control of Dante in Acre. Just as a quick note, I am writing this using the
Playstation 3 version. If you are playing the XBOX 360 version, everything will
be the same except for the buttons that you will need to press in order to
perform any actions. The buttons on each controller are the same as their
counterpart (ex. The X button on the Playstation performs the same functions as
the A button on the XBOX 360).

==========
DI2A. Acre
==========
Before you take control of Dante, you will see a prisoner standing across from
Dante. Once you take control of him, many armed guards will begin appearing to
fight you. There will be plenty of enemies for you to fight and this is a good
chance to get 50-hit combo. Once you kill the prisoner that was shown across
the docks before the fight started, you will receive the "Slaughter at Acre"
Trophy. After all enemies have been killed, a boat will crash into the docks.
Jump onto the boat and then onto the ledge on the left and follow it around.
You will find yourself alone in a courtyard. You will then watch a prisoner
come up behind Dante and stab him. Death will then appear and say that your
soul has been punished to Hell for your sins. Dante will then protest that the
bishop said that the Lord has absolved the Crusaders of their sins and Dante
challenges Death

***Battle vs. Death***

You and Death will teleport to another dimension and then the fight begins. At
the beginning of the fight, Death will only have two attacks. His first attack
is a close attack. Death will slash at you a couple times with the scythe.
Blocking or dodging can easily avoid this attack. His second attack is a ranged
attack. He will swing his scythe in a circle a few times, sending shockwaves
outward. To avoid this attack, you will have to jump or block. You won't be
able to just run from Death; he is able disappear in a cloud of smoke and then
reappear nearby.

Once you get Death's health down around 50%, he will begin using a third
attack. This attack will also be a close attack. Death will turn his scythe
into a spear and stab at you. Any method will work in avoiding this attack.
After Death's health gets down to about 25%, you will take the scythe from
Death. Now that you have his scythe, Death will no longer attack and will just
try to run and hide. When an R2 icon appears above Death, follow the on-screen
button prompts and destroy Death. Afterwards, you will arrive in Florence.

==============
DI2B. Florence
==============
After defeating Death, Dante will return to his family home in Florence, Italy.
When he arrives home, he finds that the house has pretty much been turned
upside down. He then sees his father with his cross stabbed through his eye. He
then rushes out back to see Beatrice, lying on the path, in a graveyard. He
runs to his side and the runs his finger along her lips. Her spirit then
escapes from her body and is then surrounded by dark smoke and then disappears.

You will then be "locked" in the graveyard and Undead Minions will appear.
Undead Minions are relatively weak and it shouldn't take many hits to kill
them. At some point during the fight, you will gain a few abilities: Diabolic
Ascension and Death's Grasp. For Diabolic Ascension, Hold Triangle and Dante
will slam the scythe into the ground launching any nearby enemies into the air,
leaving them defenseless. Death's Grasp the ability needed to increase your
Holy and Unholy paths. To use Death's Grasp, press R2 to grab an enemy. Once
you have an enemy, you will be able to either punish or absolve the Minions.
Absolving the Minions will earn you about 10 Experience points for the Holy
Path. However, Death's Grasp will only work against small enemies. You will
also be prompted to spend souls on Upgrades. This will appear once you have
collected 1,000 souls. At this time, you will only be able to purchase Impaler
or Vile Wind (Both are Unholy). Once all the Undead Minions have been killed,
the flames at the end of the graveyard will go out, allowing you to proceed.

After leaving the Graveyard, follow the path to the church. Before you enter,
go to the Health Fountain to the left of the of the door. Press R1 to interact
and then hit the O button a few times until the fountain breaks. Breaking
Health Fountains will refill any lost health. To the right of the door is a
Statue of Beatrice. Whenever you come across one of these, press R1 to interact
and you will be able to save your game. Now, go to the door and press R1. You
will enter the church and see Beatrice's spirit on the altar. When you walk up
to the altar, Beatrice's spirit will be taken by black smoke again and the wall
behind the altar will break down.

Once the wall breaks, Undead Minions will spawn, and this time, they won't be
alone. This time they have teamed up with Pests, which are flying creatures
that will shoot fireballs. However, you also have a new trick up your sleeve:
the Holy Cross attack. Holy Cross is very useful against flying opponents. You
will want to try and kill all enemies that appear as quickly as possible
because the floor will begin to break away. Once all enemies have been killed,
a wooden cross will fall across a gap. Cross the cross and you will come to a
bone ladder. Take it and descend below the church.

Once you land on the ground, you will have to kill all the Undead Minions that
appear. There will be a giant barrel rolling slowly down behind you. Once you
have killed all the minions, follow the path until a few burning beams fall
down, blocking your progression. From the fire will spawn about 5 Fire Minions.
Fire Minions can't be killed with the scythe directly. To kill them, you must
first hit them with a Holy Cross attack and then slash at them with the scythe
to kill them. Once you have killed about 5 of them, the wood will disappear.
Now you will have to fight a lot of Undead Minions. There is a chance you may
be able to get a 200 hit combo on all of the Minions. Once all have them have
been destroyed, you will come to another Statue of Beatrice. Drop down the bone
ladder and open any fountains you want. Then talk to Virgil. He will tell you
that Beatrice has asked for him to guide you on your quest. He will give you
the Magical Spell Righteous Path (Holy Spell).

After talking with Virgil and selecting a button for the spell (if you want),
some Undead Minions will begin to spawn, along with some Pests. After killing
off all the Minions and Pests, one of the walls will break, revealing a much
bigger creature. You will fight a Beast Tamer and an Asterian Beast. This is
pretty much the same as fighting a Rancor in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.
The Beast has two main attacks and both are close attacks. One is a stomp,
which it will usually only do when you are close to its feet, and a ground
slam, which has some range, but not much. Eventually, an R2 icon will appear
near the beast and you will need to hit Square, Triangle and then the O button.
After killing the Beast Tamer, you will ride the Asterian Beast. More Undead
Minions will appear and you will have to use the Beast to kill them. To stomp,
press Triangle and to slam the ground, press Square. Now that you have control
of the beast, you find out that is has a third attack, as well. Pressing the O
button will allow the Beast to breathe fire. Once all the Minions are killed,
go to the door that was behind Virgil and use the Beast to open it.

You will jump and when you land, there will be a Beatrice Statue in front of
you. You will then have climb along the Wall of Damned. As you follow the wall,
you will see a fountain in front of a waterfall of souls. Break open the
fountain for a few souls. When you get near the end of the wall, you will have
to jump across the gap by moving the left analog stick to the left and pressing
X. Once you get off the wall. You will see Virgil again. Talk to him and he
will tell you a bit about where you are and you will receive the commentary
"Into the Blind World". Talk to him again and he will give you the Death Blade
Relic (Unholy). You need to have be Unholy Level 1 to equip it. After Virgil
disappears, double jump to the left of where Virgil was to find a fountain.
Opening the fountain will reward you with a Piece of Silver [SP01]. Follow the
path around to find yourself on the Shores of Acheron

=======================
DI2C. Shores of Acheron
=======================
After talking to Virgil and receiving the Death Blade relic, you will watch
Charon trying to lure people aboard to take them to the gates of the
underworld. After you regain control of Dante, make your way towards the lever.
Pull the lever once and some Minions and Pests will appear. Activating the
lever will also extend a bridge towards the other side; however, it does begin
to move backwards on its own, so you don't have much time to get to the other
side. Take out the Minions before crossing. The Pests will keep spawning, two
at a time, so you don't worry too much about them. After you cross to the other
side, the Pests will stop spawning. Climb down the bone ladder until you reach
the floor below. You will have to kill all Hell Minions that spawn, as well as
the Guardian Demon. The Guardian Demon it stronger in battle than the Minions
and is unable to be grabbed due to its size. The Guardian Demon does have an
attack that cannot be blocked. Whenever its sword begins to glow orange, either
dodge or jump because the attack will still hit you, even if you try to block.

After you absolve or punish the demon (You can also kill it), a crank will
appear in the center. Use it to raise the platform until you see a door in the
center. Before you go through the door, raise the platform as high as it will
go. On your left in an alcove is a fountain. Break it open to find another
Piece of Silver [SP02]. Go back through the door and talk with Virgil. When you
talk with him, you will receive the commentary "Shores of Acheron". He will
tell you more about Charon and the Shores of Acheron. Proceed along the path
and fight off the Hell Minions, Pests, and Guardian Demon that appear. After
killing off all the creatures, continue towards the door. Before you go through
the door, you will see a glowing figure in front of the door. This figure is
one of the Damned, mortals who played an important part in history. You will
have to choice to absolve them of their sins or punish them. When you interact
with the soul, you find out it is Ponitus Pilate. If you choose to absolve him,
you will play a mini-game that will have you collecting sins. For each sin you
collect, you will gain 30 souls at the end of the mini-game. Then proceed
through the demon door. You will have to press the O button quickly to open in.

When you first enter the room behind the door, you will see Beatrice's soul
once again and this time the black smoke will take the shape of a human. After
watching the scene, Beatrice's soul will disappear, and a fight will ensue. You
will have to fight your way through many Hell Minions. As the fight progresses,
a few Guardian Demons will also enter the fray. After all enemies have been
vanquished, the door will open, revealing a Statue of Beatrice. Now you will
begin to make your way towards Charon. Before climbing across the rope, go
behind the statue holding the rope to find a fountain with a Piece of Silver
inside [SP03].

When you get about halfway along the rope, Charon will tell you to stand down.
Dante will beg Charon to take him to Beatrice. While Dante is pleading with
Charon, you will see a Guardian Demon stand next to the statue and cut the
rope. You will now have to climb along another Wall of the Damned. The first
path going up will lead you on, but don't go that way yet. Instead, keep
heading farther along Charon until you see something sitting on a ledge. This
is a Demon Dog and destroying these will grant you relics. Follow the button
commands to destroy it and you will be rewarded with the relic Charon's Oar.
Now go back to the first opening along the wall.

When you climb into the first opening, you will enter a room with a few
breakable objects, a crate, a crank, and few fountains. When you first enter
the room, up above the lever you will see a Damned soul. Grab the crate on the
left side of the room and pull it to the right side. Push it up the ramp and
into the alcove with bars. Go to the crank and move it backwards until you can
move the crate over the platform to the left to the end of the left wall. Jump
up the ledge and open the fountain to find a Piece of Silver [SP04]. Jump back
down and put the crate back on the right side. Move the crate right in front of
the ledge above where the Damned soul is. Use the crank and move the platform
back to its original position. Jump up and you can either absolve or punish
Orpheus. After choosing, climb up the wall. You will find yourself on the deck
of Charon.

You will then need to fight off Minions, Pests, and Guardian Demons. There are
Health and Mana fountains around the edge of the deck. After killing off all
the creatures, you will see Charon turn his head to the right and an Asterian
Beast and Beast Tamer will climb up and more Minions will appear. Once you kill
the Beast Tamer, take control of the Asterian Beast and kill any remaining
Minions. You will then see an interaction point on Charon's neck. Once you
press R1, you will have to press the O button rapidly to tear of Charon's head.
Once you do that the boat will crash and you will have to use the Asterian
Beast to climb up to the top of some pillars. Climbing with the Beast is the
same as climbing with Dante. As you climb, the walls begin to break apart. You
will have to switch sides twice. Once you get near the top, the wall underneath
the Beast will begin to break. You will have to press Square, Triangle, and
then O to have Dante jump off the beast and survive. However, you are not safe
just yet. You will need to keep running as the ground beneath Dante will begin
to crumble. You will get to a point where Dante will stop and the pillar you
are standing on will begin to fall. As you are falling, you will be prompted to
press R1 to use the scythe as a rope and swing through another pillar.

===========
DI2D. Limbo
===========
Once you land, you are safe. There is a Beatrice statue to your left and Virgil
is down the path to the right. Talk to Virgil and he will tell you about the
judge of the underworld, King Minos. This is the "Limbo" commentary. Proceed to
the end of the path and you will be able to King Minos in the distance. There
will be a break in the top of the wall and you will have to climb down a Wall
of Damned. Once you land, an Exploding Minion will appear. Grab it and throw it
towards the glowing door to proceed. When you walk through the door, follow the
path and you will see Charon's head. Before you reach Charon's head, the will
be an opening in the wall. Go through it and you will have to fight a Guardian
Demon. After killing the Demon, open the fountain to find a Piece of Silver
[SP05]. Walk up to it and press R1 to push Charon's head over the ledge and
receive the Trophy "Burning Eyes". Continue on past where the head was and you
will come across a Demon Dog and a fountain. Destroying the Dog will give you
the Eyes of St. Lucia Relic. Destroying the fountain next to it will reward you
with a Beatrice Stone [BS1] and the Trophy "Precious". Go back to where the
head was and go to the right and open the door.

When you first enter this room, you will see an Unbaptized Baby. You will then
have to fight off maybe 10-15 of them. If you grab them with your scythe to
punish or absolve them, all the others will back away until you have finished.
After you have killed them all, the wall of flames will die down, allowing you
to progress farther. You will see Virgil standing next to a Demon Door. When
you first talk to him, he will tell you about the Unbaptized Babies, which will
add the "Unblessed Infants" commentary to your journal. Talking to him again
will reward you with the Lord's Prayer Relic. Open the door and you will find a
Mana fountain and a Soul fountain. There is also a spike wheel that will roll
up and down the ramp. Open the next Demon Door and you will see on the Damned
at the end of the path. You can choose whether to punish or absolve Electra. Go
back the way you came and continue on.

As you make your way up, you will encounter a few Exploding Minions so kill
them any way you like. When you reach the top there will be soul fountain next
to a Demon Door. Follow the path all the way around until you reach the end.
You will enter a fight against some Exploding Minions, some Hell Minions,
Unbaptized Babies, and a Guardian Demon. Once all have been killed off, the
wall of the flames behind all of them will die. Open the Demon Door and proceed
through to the next room. Talk with Virgil and he will tell you of the souls
that reside here, unlocking the "Hall of Kings" commentary. Proceed up the ramp
and Dante will have a flashback involving Saladin. Go up the ramp past the
giant statue and go to the left. Double jump off the ledge, to the left and
pull the lever in the alcove. Pull it and the giant statue in the center of the
ramp will disappear. You will see a Demon Dog in the hole; absolve it to get
the relic Saladin's Mercy. I would recommend saving and then activate the lever
and you will be able to swing across to face King Minos

***Battle vs. King Minos***

You will watch a short scene of Minos judging one of the souls. He then will
try to judge Dante and Dante ticks him off and the fight begins. Minos has a
few attacks at his disposal. First, he will use his tentacles to try and stab
you from the ground. Just keep running around in circles until they start
spearing faster. Eventually, he will lean back and will reveal grapple points
beneath some tentacles on either side of the arena. Grapple onto them while he
roars, pretty much. He will then lower his head, allowing you to attack. He
will try and "smell" you and then he will attack with his tongue. If he hits
you, you will be separated from the scythe and a tentacle will appear ready to
stab you. When this happens, follow the on-screen prompts to avoid the attack
and grab our scythe. You will want to do enough damage to him so that he leans
back, covering his eyes, allowing you to attack his stomach.

If you were unable to attack his stomach, you will have to repeat the previous
process until you are able to attack his stomach. If you were able to attack
his stomach, he will summon some Hell Minions to attack you. He will then begin
to attack with his tentacles again, just like before. Once they get faster will
begin to slam the ground with his fist and then he will sweep across the arena
with his arm. When he slams his fist or sweeps his arm along the arena, stand
right underneath either of the tentacles that hide the grapple points. He never
slams near the tentacles and the arm seeps will end just before the tentacles.
He will then lean back, revealing the grappling points again. However, after he
roars, his hand will still be on the arena ground with an R2 icon above it. You
will stab his hand with your scythe and then you will have to hit Triangle and
then Square when they appear. If you do, you will be able to attack his stomach
again.

After attacking his stomach, he will summon some Unbaptized Babies and a
Guardian Demon. After killing all of them, he will begin slamming his fist on
the ground and sweeping his arm along the arena. He will then lean back, once
again, revealing the grapple points. After he roars, begin attacking his face
again. He will attack with his tongue twice. If you are able to hit him enough,
his tongue will fall out. Press R2 to grab his tongue and move the left analog
stick down, when prompted, to pull Minos towards the spiked wheel. After
stabbing his tongue on the wheel, press O and then you will have to rapidly
press the O button to finally kill him. After he dies, you will receive the
Trophy "Sentence the Judge" and the Tail of Minos relic.

After killing Minos, scythe swing across the gorge and follow the path to a
Beatrice statue. You will now begin you descent into Lust. After reaching the
Beatrice Statue, you will need to descend down the rope. You will have to
rappel down the canyon, jumping from rope to rope. While going down the first
rope, you will be told how to rappel. When you get onto the second rope, climb
to the top to find a Piece of Silver [SP06]. Then climb back down and stop
about halfway down. On your right, you should see two bone ladders. Swing over
to them and grab onto one. As you are jumping towards the bone ladders, an R1
icon will appear at the top of the screen. When this pops up, hit R1 and Dante
will use the scythe to grab onto the ladder. Climb up them and destroy the
Demon Dog for the relic Francesco's Book Drop down the ladder on the right and
continue rappelling from rope to rope. Slide down the bone ladder and drop to
the rope. Before you are able to jump to the next rope, you will need to
destroy an object that is in your way. You will have to run at it and attack
the object to destroy it. If you use a Triangle attack, it will only take one
shot. After the object is destroyed, you will have to jump and use scythe swing
to get to the next rope. Some Pests will spawn. Destroy them before moving on.
Drop down the bone ladder to enter Lust

==========
DI2E. Lust
==========
As soon as you drop from the bone ladder, you will see one of the Damned.
Before you reach the Damned, you will watch a cut scene that shows Dante
betraying Beatrice. The Damned you can choose to absolve is Francesca da
Polenta. It is recommended to absolve her as part of a Trophy. Make your way to
the bridge. When you approach the bridge, you will see a tower appear and
Cleopatra will climb up it and ask if you are looking for someone. The tower
will then become surrounded by a vortex and lightning balls will from at the
end of the bridge and make their way across, getting bigger the farther they
go.

Begin to make your way down the bridge, hiding behind the statues when the
lightning balls stop in front of them. Stay along the left side as you make
your way down the bridge. When you get to the third statue on the left (the
biggest one), drop down and scale the wall to find a Demon Dog. Absolving it
will award you the relic Filippo's Rage. Climb back up and make your way to the
end of the bridge. Once you pass the big statues, you won't have to worry about
the lightning balls. Drop down behind the fourth statue on the left and scale
to wall to find a Piece of Silver [SP07]. At the end of the bridge on the left
side you will find Virgil. Talking with Virgil will add the "Winds of Lust"
commentary to your journal. As you make your way back to the third statues,
between the third and fourth statues on the right will be a break in the wall.
Scale the wall and destroy the fountain to find a Beatrice Stone [BS2]. Go back
up to the second statue on the left.

In front of this statue will be a lever. Activating this lever will switch the
direction the lightning ball will be thrown for the plate in front of you. When
the lightning ball is about halfway between the second and third statues, pull
the lever to switch the direction. If you timed it correctly, the ball will be
shot towards the plate in front of the third statues and the towards the vortex
surrounding the tower. A hole will appear in the vortex and you will have
limited window to get through it before it closes.

Once you enter the tower, you will meet a new enemy: Temptress of Lust. These
enemies are very quick. They will fight both close and from a distance. When
they attack close up, they will quickly strike about three times. Their ranged
attack is really creepy. They will grow a tentacle from their abdomen and
attack you. After killing off the three Temptresses, go to the crank in the
far-left corner of the room. Turn it until it stops. Go to the mouth of the
snake and attack it's fangs before the mouth closes. Once the fangs are
destroyed, turn the crank again and this time the mouth will open all the way
and will remain open. Jump on the tongue and up to the next level. The game
will cut away and you will see Beatrice sitting on a bed. Before you are able
to reach her, the platform she is on will go up.

Walk to your right and talk with Virgil. Talking with him twice will get you
the Tristan's Desire relic. You will also add the commentary for "Semiramis" to
your journal. Jump from each side to reach a Soul fountain on the right and a
Mana fountain on the left. Go down the path to the left to find a Beatrice
statue and a lever. Go down the path to the right for a Health Fountain.
Pulling the lever on the left will cause the platform to raise until it hits
the one above it. Go to the far end of the platform in the center and pull out
the statue. Go down and activate the lever. The platform will raise, but the
statue will allow you to double jump onto it. Jump to the alcove on the left
and break the fountain for a Piece of Silver [SP08]. Go the alcove on the
right, destroy the fountain for some souls, and pull the lever. The roof above
the platform will open and once you jump on, it will rise up.

The platform will now act as an elevator. Cleopatra will be climbing up the
outside of the tower. While you are going up, you will have to fight two
Temptresses and near the end of the fight, a Guardian Demon will appear.
Cleopatra will break through the tower and flip the platform. You will be
prompted to grapple using L1 while she continues climbing. The platform will
continue to go up. You will then need to fight some Minions and more
Temptresses.

Once the elevator stops, you will see some Unbaptized Babies being born from
Cleopatra's breast. After she places them in the arena, the game will zoom in
on her hand. After you kill the first wave of Unbaptized Babies, a platform
will rise up in front of the Health fountain with 3 Hell Minions. Keep killing
enemies until a platform appear in front of the Mana fountain. Once the
platform appears in front of the Mana fountain, attack Cleopatra's hand until
she pulls it away. Go and pull the lever above the Mana fountain to turn the
stone snakes towards Cleopatra. Kill any enemies and attack her hand again
until she pulls it away. Now pull the lever above the Health fountain. The
snake statues will breathe fire, roasting Cleopatra's breasts. After that,
Cleopatra will climb higher. You will pretty much regain all health and the
platform will rise as well.

You will fight some Temptresses and Pests on your way up. Once the platform
stops, go over to the right and climb down the bone ladder. You find Paolo
Malatesta, one of the Damned. If you absolved Francesca at the beginning of
Lust, before the bridge, absolve Paolo and you will receive the Trophy
"Forbidden Love". Climb back up and go to the left. You will have to navigate
the Wall of Damned, while avoiding the electricity. Make your way to the right
and climb up to the Beatrice Statue. The Damned to the right of the statue in
Semiramis, the Queen Virgil talked of earlier. After punishing or absolving
Semiramis, drop down from the ledge across from her to find a Demon Dog, which
will award you with the relic Arrow of Paris. Double jump back towards the wall
and climb up to the ledge and double jump to the left of the statue to find a
fountain with a Piece of Silver [SP09]. At the top of the second wall will be
the boss fight

***Fight vs. Marc Antony***

When you first get to the top of the tower, you will see Beatrice on the bed
you saw earlier. A cut scene will ensue and Dante will look into Beatrice's
eyes to see Dante breaking his promise. Beatrice will the disappear with
Lucifer and Cleopatra will appear. Cleopatra will talk about Lucifer's plan and
Marc Antony will come out of her mouth to fight you.

Marc Antony has plenty of attacks, but most of them are close range attacks. He
will try and stomp on you, he will slash at a few times, but each time is more
powerful. He will also slam his shield in front of you. For his one ranged
attack, he will slam has shield into the ground and the bottom will glow. If
you move, his shield will follow you until purple spikes will pop out of the
ground, but they will only go in a straight line from his shield. Then he will
lunge with his sword. Cleopatra will also interfere. At times she will slam her
fist somewhere in the arena and if you are close to it when she does slam her
fist, you may become stunned. She will also use a spell that will summon a dark
tornado that will roam towards you. She will also heal Marc Antony. When she
does this, a green aura will appear around Marc Antony. Attack her hand that is
on the arena and she will stop and fall down the tower. She will eventually
climb back up, though.

Antony is plenty powerful by himself. He will use almost any attack at any time
so be prepared. After you get him down around 25% health, he will constantly
slam his shield into the ground and spike will pop out of the ground. Then he
will either use a charged sword attack or jump and lunge at you and stab the
ground. When he uses his shield, the damage your attacks do is greatly reduced.
The easiest way to hit him is to wait and dodge until you can get a clear shot
at him without him being able to use his shield to defend himself. Once you get
him in a position like this, attack with Holy Cross.

Once he is defeated, you will receive the relic Antony's Standard. Cleopatra
will then appear at his side and you will receive the Trophy "Lovers Torn
Asunder". Cleopatra then says that it wasn't supposed to end like that and
talks of some deal and then sets her sights on you. Antony will disappear and
she will begin crawling towards you. You will drop the scythe and start to back
away. She will then jump at you and you will have to knock her off by moving
the left analog stick down and then up. She will then jump and tackle you. Move
the left analog stick in a counterclockwise direction from right to left to
roll over. You will then have to move the left analog stick up and you will
stab her with the scythe and she will disappear. You will also gain the Lust
Storm Magic attack.

The platform will now begin to fall back towards the ground. As you are
falling, you will have to fight some Minions and Guardian Demons. The tower
will also be collapsing onto the platform. When they are about to land, a
purple circle will appear on the platform. The falling debris can harm both you
and the enemies. After all the enemies have been killed, a giant boulder will
fall on the right side of the platform. You will then need to fight 3 more
Demons. Both of you can fall off the edge of the platform the was destroyed by
the boulder. After the Demons have been killed, a boulder will destroy the left
side of the platform. Soon, the only portion of the platform left will be the
top part.

As you are falling, the camera will rotate and you will see the statues from
the beginning of Lust. Some of them now have rappel points. Press R1 to rappel
to the first one and then to the second one. You need to swing from the second
to the next statue. Between the third rappel points and the fourth, there will
be two statues that will still be generating electricity. Double jump when the
electricity has gone down and swing from the last point to the bridge. When you
land, Virgil will be right next to you. He will tell you about Helen, adding
the commentary to your journal.

After talking with Virgil, proceed down the bridge to the bone ladder. Open the
Health and Soul fountains if you want. As you descend, the mouths, will shoot
fire. The fire won't last very long but there isn't much of a break between the
mouths shooting fire. As you use the ropes, to rappel along the wall, the
mouths that you pass in front of will shoot fire, burning the ropes. To move
from rope to rope, run to the right first and then run left and jump because
the ropes won't last long. As you climb down the bone ladder, the mouths that
are lined up in a row will shoot fire one after another, but no two will short
fire at the same time. When you reach the next rope, run right and then left.
You will need to break the object quickly before the rope burns and reaches
you, hurting you for constant damage. Slide down the bone ladder to the rope
stretching across the chasm. First go to the right and there will be a ledge
with a Demon Dog inside an alcove. The is also a fire mouth, but it will allow
enough time between shooting flames to grab the relic, which is Rain of
Gluttony. Make it to the other side to gain information of this new area.

==============
DI2F. Gluttony
==============
As you cross the rope, you will see Cerberus in the chasm below. Talk with
Virgil and he will tell you about Gluttony (Commentary) and Cerberus. Drop down
the bone ladder to fight Cerberus.

***Fight vs. Cerberus***

As soon as you land, Cerberus' heads will appear and snap at each other and the
fight begins. Each of the heads will shoot vomit balls at you, not all at once,
but two can puke at the same time. You will first have to take out the side
heads. You can do this one of two ways. You can get close to one of the
fountain-like objects, press R1 and the rapidly hit the O button as if it were
a fountain. When you are doing this, the side head closest to you will lunge at
you. The second way is to lure the side heads to lunge at you, dodge, and then
attack until and R2 icon appear over the head. The first way is a lot easier.
Pick a side to start with and try to open the fountain farther from the head.
Once you open dodge out of the way when the head strikes and attack it form
behind the head so the other heads can't vomit on you. When the body begins to
pull the head back, open the fountain closer to the body and move out of the
way when it strikes. When the R2 icon comes up, you will only have to hit
Triangle when it appears, and Dante will slice off the head, healing you a
little as well. Repeat for the other side head.

Now for the remaining center head. The center head will now strike you whenever
you get close. It will also hurl vomit faster than before. Open one of the
fountains farther away form the body and wait for it to strike. When it passes
through the fire, move the far side of the arena. The head will writhe in pain
for a few seconds and sweep along the arena, swinging violently. Go to the
other side and do the same thing. This time after going crazy, the head will
fall and R2 will appear in front of it. As soon as you hit R2, the head will
attempt to eat you. You will then be prompted to move the left analog stick up,
down, right, and left. The head will then explode and the fight is over. You
will receive the relic Azrael's Apprentice and the Trophy "The Great Worm".

Go across Cerberus's body and follow the path as it begins to rain. After
jumping over a gap you will see a Fountain. You should also see some dirt
rising right in front of it. Use a heavy attack to reveal a Gorger Worm. You
can also just walk over it and it will try to eat you, which is one of its
attacks. To escape, you will have to press the O button rapidly. Open the
fountain for a Piece of Silver [SP10] and continue towards the interaction
point. Open the Health and Mana fountain before descending the bone ladder.
Before you drop you will watch a Gorger Worm kill a minion and another Minion
running away. When you land, you will instantly attempt to be eaten by a Gorger
Worm. After escaping, more worms will appear as well as some Minions. Once you
kill off all the Worms and Minions, the fire wall will drop. The will be statue
on the right, a soul fountain and one of the Damned on the left. The Damned
soul is Ciacco.

As soon as you pass through the open mouth beyond the Beatrice Statue, all
mouths nearby will close and some Pests will spawn. Keep using Holy Cross until
they are destroyed and the mouths will open up again. Jump to the platform in
front of the first mouth ahead of you and judge the Damned, which is Clodia.
Jump back the platform with the rope crossing the river and cross. Go through
the mouth and you will find Virgil. You will receive the "Valley of Mud"
Commentary and the Ciacco's Bile relic. After talking with Virgil, follow the
path and you will see an arch with a glowing door. As you make your way towards
it, a Gorger Worm, Minions, and Guardian Demons will ambush you. Kill all of
these enemies and open the fountain before you go through the arch.

Once you pass through the arch, you will see Gluttons eating other souls. Dante
will then have flashback to Dante's youth. After the flashback, Lucifer will
appear and Dante will begin asking questions about other souls. You will then
watch a flashback that will show how Dante's father and Beatrice were killed.
After the cut scene is over, you will need to fight a Glutton. Due to their
large size, your magic attacks won't have much effect on them. After you have
judged it, the floor will be destroyed and you will have to navigate through
the Mirror Maze.

This maze is fun to try and navigate. Activating the levers will change which
portal you come out of when you enter one. Pass through the portal at the end
of the path you are on and activate the lever after coming out of the portal.
This will turn the portal you just walked through. Go back the way you came and
walk to the far end of the platform and climb the wall. At the end of the first
ledge you reach will be a soul fountain. Climbing higher to the second ledge,
break the fountain for a Piece of Silver [SP11]. Climb back down and pull the
lever. Go back through the portal and jump from the platform that appears to a
ledge with a lever and a soul fountain. If you pass through the portal next to
the fountain, you will fall out of the portal that is above where you started.
Wait until the revolving platform comes in from the left and hovers underneath
and pass through the portal. As the platform moves through the center of the
area, double jump to the right towards the fountain. Breaking this fountain
will reward you with a Beatrice Stone [BS3], which makes 3, if you have found
all of them up to this point. Passing through the portal nearby will also drop
you out of the one above where you start. Once you pass through the portal the
platform takes you through you will be out. This is the only time you will
visit during the game.

After passing through the portal, the platform will crumble after it falls.
Follow the path to find a Soul fountain and Beatrice Statue. Begin descending
the bone ladder. When the mouth underneath the ladder isn't breathing fire,
drop to the vine and swing to the bone ladder to the left. Climb up the bone
ladder into a little alcove with fountain the will reward you with a Piece of
Silver [SP12] and a Demon Dog that holds the relic Octavian's Gold. Descend the
bone ladder to drop to a rope that spans the chasm. Make it to the far left end
and drop down onto another vine. When you get to the bottom, drop down off the
vine. You will have to block the flames coming up from the ground to proceed.
Grab the object you see and pull it back towards the vine. Once there are 4
flame spouts, push the object back over the first spout and throw it over the
other by holding the O button while moving the object. Quickly jump back up on
the vine and swing to the left. Break the object in front of you and drop down
the bone ladder and onto the rope. Make your way to the left end and jump off.
You will have to use the scythe to grab onto the grappling point and swing over
to the vine. Jump to the next vine and slide down the bone ladder into...

===========
DI2G. Greed
===========
Greed. Follow the path until you can see ahead into another room. Go up to the
ledge near the doorway, but don't go through. Go to the edge of the ledge you
are on and shimmy over to the right. When you can only see your feet, pull
yourself up and you will find a Demon Dog. Destroying the Dog will grant you
the Crown of Carthage relic. Go back and go towards the opening. In an alcove
on the left are Health and Mana Fountains. As you make your way towards the
opening, jump up on the right side into another alcove with a Soul fountain.
Double jump across and the path to the left and there will be another fountain
with a Piece of Silver [SP13] inside. Go back to the ledge where you found the
Soul fountain. If you look ahead and to the left, you will see another fountain
in an alcove. This one is a bit tricky to try and get to. Run off the ledge of
the alcove with the Soul fountain and as you are falling, double jump towards
the platform. You don't want to do it too early; otherwise you will hit some
rocks hanging over the path. This fountain will reward you with a Beatrice
Stone [BS4], but if you already have 3, you will receive Health, Mana, and some
souls. Proceed down the path

You will watch a cut scene and see the boss for this Circle. Dante will
enlighten you that the boss for this Circle is none other than dear old dad,
Alighiero, and then you will watch a flashback into Dante's past. Talk with
Virgil to receive the "Greed" Commentary. Jump up the moving platforms and then
onto the platforms that cross the molten gold. When you first activate the
lever, a platform will move, but then it will move back. A rock wall will rise
where you jumped over the molten gold. You will then see some pests and a giant
vat coming towards you and on top of the vat are some Guardian Demons. The vat
will then tip and begin pouring molten gold down below you. You need to kill
off the Pests and Demons, and activate the lever again before the gold
overflows. Some Fire Minions will spawn before the lever reappears after the
Pests and Demons have been killed.

Jump onto the ledge to the Beatrice Statue and make your way over to the cogs.
Make it to the top of the first row of cogs and jump left to the second row of
cogs. Once there, jump back onto the single cog just above the top of the
second row. As you jump towards the lone cog, you should start hearing a female
voice. On a cog above the first row, you will see a Damned soul. The soul
belongs to Tarpeia. This will be the first Damned Soul you find after finding
all Beatrice Stones (if picked up at least 3), so this is your first chance to
auto-absolve the Damned. To auto-absolve, press Triangle. If you choose to
auto-absolve, you will not have to play the mini-game or receive bonus souls.
After crossing the cogs, open the Demon Door. You will enter a room and meet a
new enemy: a Hoarder-Waster. This enemy uses a giant club to attack you.
Whenever they start spinning, none of your scythe or Holy Cross attack will
work. The only way to stop them from spinning (other than wait for them to
stop), it to use Righteous Path. After killing the first one, Minions and few
more Hoarder-Wasters will appear.

After killing all the enemies, the lever will reappear. Activating it will
lower some platforms with spikes underneath. First, jump in the alcove and
break the fountain for a Piece of Silver [SP14]. Pull the lever to lower the
platforms, jump in the alcove and jump onto the platform on the right. As you
are going up, you will see an alcove with a Demon Dog. Destroying the Dog will
reward you with the Demon's Wing relic. The lever in here will open the door
above. After the platforms have reached the top, pull the lever is here to open
the door. Get out and pull the lever that lowers the platforms, then jump back
into the alcove quickly. Once in there, wait for the platforms and then move
the right analog stick up to quickly dash through the door. The door will only
remain open for a few seconds. If the spikes touch you, you will die. Once you
open the door, the platforms slow down. Once you dash through the door, it will
close. Pull the lever to activate the elevator.

When you first enter this room, you will see a Beast Tamer on the other side of
the room pulling a lever and disappearing behind a Demon Door. If you drop down
to the area below, you will see a gate rise and some enemies will appear. Kill
the Pests and Hoarder-Waster that appear to lower the gate. There are two
fountains down here. The one near molten gold will have a Piece of Silver
[SP15] inside and the other one has a few souls. Climb up the wall that is now
accessible where the gate was blocking. Climb back up and make your way to the
Demon Door that the Beast Tamer disappeared behind. Once you open the door,
pull the lever to stop the machine from spinning. Walk back out into the room
and double jump to your right to judge Gessius Florus. The Demon Dog in the
center of the contraption will give you the Wasted Gold Relic when you destroy
it. Go back and open the second Demon Door

When you enter the next room, there will be a Health and a Mana fountain, as
well as a Beatrice Statue. When you round the corner, you will see the Beast
Tamer and he will jump under an archway and bars will block it off. The saw
blades on either side of the room will begin to move. You will have to turn the
crank enough to open the bars and make your way into the room the Beast Tamer
did. The catch is you have to do it before the walls come together and crush
you. You will also have pairs of Guardian Demons trying to stop you. As soon as
you start turning the crank, the saw blades will begin to move. The bonus to
having the saw blades move up and down the room is that they will instantly
kill the Demons if they are on the blade's path. You will see a fountain also
closed behind some bars on the other side, but don't worry about it, you will
have to go that way eventually anyways. As soon as you enter the next room, the
walls will instantly snap together. The easiest way to do this is to wait until
the Demons get close to you. Once they do, use the Sacred Quake attack, if you
have already purchased it (Holy Level 2).

Once you enter the room, you will enter a fight with an Asterian Beast and
Beast Tamer, some Exploding Minions, and some Guardian Demons. The Demons and
Minions will keep respawning until you take control of the Beast and kill and
remaining enemies. Before you leave the room, be sure to destroy the soul
fountains and Mana fountains. Walk over the walls that closed in the room you
were in before this one and use the Beast to open them. The Beast will hold the
door open and you have to open the Demon Door. The saw blades will reactivate,
so be careful when crossing the room. Some Exploding Minions will also spawn.
Once you open the door, the walls will close again. In front of the wall, you
will see Virgil. Talk with him to receive the "Earth's Treasure" commentary.
Climb up the wall and go to the right, into the two cells. In the farther cell
is a Demon Dog that will reward you with the Coin of Plutus relic. In the
closer cell is a fountain with a Piece of Silver [SP16].

Once you reach the top of the wall, you will have to scythe swing across the
canyon and grab onto a rope over a river of molten gold. You will see some
fountains ahead of you when you land. When you try and step past the elevator,
a new enemy will appear and a gate will block off any escape. This creature is
a Throne Demon and a little tougher than the Guardian Demons. These creatures
wield and ax as well as a shield. They are able to block your Holy Cross
attacks with the shield. If you can hit them once they lower their shield, just
keep spamming Holy Cross attack until R2 appears and pass judgment for 200
Experience. After the gate lowers, the open the fountain that it blocked off
for a Piece of Silver [SP17]. Activate the lever past the fountain to lower a
wall and proceed on. Once you step onto the platform, small gates will appear
and two Hoarder-Wasters will appear, as well as two Pests a little later. Kill
off these enemies and the platform will have stopped and begin to tip. Jump
onto the platform across from it and the same thing will happen, only instead
of Hoarder-Wasters, you will have to fight off two Seductresses of Lust. These
creatures do the exact same things as the Temptresses of Lust.

The platform will continue moving until you stop in front of a giant gold
statue. Once the gates are lowered, jump down. There are Health and Mana
fountains on either side of the area. Jump up to the lever and pull it. The
column you are standing on will shoot a fireball and a crank will be revealed.
Before you can turn the crank, you will have to fight off some Pests and about
3 Throne Demons. Turning the crank will rotate the platform that shoots fire
until it lines up with one of the platform on either side of the statue.
Destroy both of them. Destroy the one on the right to reveal an alcove with two
fountains. The one on the left will have a Piece of Silver [SP18] inside. Go up
the left platform this time and there will be a Beatrice Statue and a Demon
Door.

Follow the path and open the two fountains for some souls. Go to the platform
and pull the lever and it will begin to descend. Once it reaches the bottom,
follow the path and talk with Virgil. He will add the "Plutus" commentary to
your Journal. You will come to a statue of Plutus and then you will have to
fight off some Hoarder-Wasters, Exploding Minions, and Seductresses of Lust.
Once they have all been killed, a ray of light will emanate from the statue and
a platform will appear. Rotate the crank until you are able to create a path
for you to jump to the platform he is holding in his left hand. As soon as a
platform leaves the light, is will start decaying. You will want a platform
that is blocked on one side to be right in front of the platform he is holding.
Once you get up to the ledge behind him, there will be a Beatrice Statue, soul
fountain and a Demon Door. Open the door to proceed.

When you enter this next room, break the soul fountain and grab onto the rope.
When you make it to the other side, you will see Virgil and another soul
fountain. You will receive "The Wheel of Fortune" commentary from taking with
him. Scythe swing across to the other side and climb the wall. Once you make
your way towards the wheel, you will have to fight off a few waves of
Seductresses, Exploding Minions, a Glutton and a Throne Demon. After killing
all of them, gates will be lowered revealing a Soul fountain and the way
forward. Scythe swing across to the cogs and two Pests will swarm kill them and
then make your way around the stomping logs to the Demon Door. When the logs
are going up, dodge ahead because the wheel will be spinning counter-clockwise
and you want to go clockwise. Open the door and cross the wall. When you reach
the other side, you will see a Beatrice Statue on the right, and on the left
will be a Health fountain, a Mana fountain and the Damned soul of Fulvia. Open
the Demon Door at the end of the room.

When you get onto the elevator, activate the lever to lower it. As it is
lowering, you will see a Beast Tamer on an Asterian Beast. Activate the lever
on the left to raise the platform and fight the Beast and Tamer. Once the fight
begins, the elevator will go back up and you will need to kill the Tamer. Once
you have killed the Tamer, the elevator will return with another Tamer. When a
Tamer is by itself and you are riding a Beast, it will try to knock you off and
take back control of the Beast. Once you kill the second Tamer and regain
control, some Throne Demons and another Tamer will appear. Kill them to
proceed.

Take the Beast to the block it was pushing and hold R1 to push the block until
it falls into place. Use the Beast to climb long the wall until you reach the
statue of Plutus. Fight off the Minions, Demons, and Tamer that appear and a
block will appear in the far-left corner. Pull it over to the button in the
floor on the right side of the room to lower the statue. Once you have pulled
the block back enough, go to the left side of it and hold the O button to
forcefully push it across the room. If you try and pull it all the way to the
button, it will have decayed enough that you won't be able to get past the
statue. Once you have passed the statue, keep climbing the wall until you reach
the Wheel of Fortune. Once you reach the Wheel, the wall will begin to burn and
you will have to fight off a few waves of Throne Demons and Beast Tamers. Once
you do, you will see your father above the Wheel. Use the Beast to push over
the Wheel and fight dear old dad

***Battle vs. Alighiero***

Alighiero basically looks like a bigger Glutton. He has a ranged attack and a
close attack. When he uses his ranged attack, he will swing his cross upwards
and a few smaller crosses will home in on you and hit you a couple times. Just
block to defend them. When he does his close attack, he will slam his cross to
the ground, sort of like how the Guardian Demons use their special attack. On
occasion, he will also swing the cross at you. Once you get his health low
enough, the outer ring of the Wheel will break away. He will also begin using a
new attack. For this attack, he will stab his cross into the ground and a
hologram of it will remain there. Every few seconds, the cross in the ground
will send out a small shockwave that doesn't reach very far. After doing this
about 5 times, the cross will disappear. He will put a few of these down at a
time.

Once you get his health even lower, more of the arena will break away and he
will begin use a magic attack. He will yell "Sins of the Father" and then a
burst of energy will erupt from around him. If you are close enough, it will
hit you for major damage. By this time, when he throws the crosses, they will
be three at a time and stabbing the ground with a cross will send a shockwave
through pretty much the whole remaining part of the arena. Once you kill him,
you will receive the Eye of Alighiero relic and the Unholy spell, Sins of the
Father. The molten gold will drain from around what is remaining of the Wheel
and you can proceed towards the Beatrice Statue. There is a ledge next to the
Health fountain with a Demon Dog in it. Destroy it to receive the Hoarder's
Purse relic. Open the Demon Door to proceed. Pull the lever to activate the
lift. You will be fighting Pests until you reach the other side; then you have
to kill off a few Minions and a Hoarder-Waster. Pull the lever to lower the
lift.

Once you reach the bottom follow the path around and begin your descent into
Anger. Drop down the bone ladder and drop off of it. Quickly hit R1 to grab the
grapple point with the scythe and swing over to another bone ladder. As you
descend down this ladder, everywhere around you will be bombarded with meteors.
Drop down to the rope after the meteor strikes and destroy the object blocking
your path. Grapple and swing across to another ladder and climb down it.

===========
DI2H. Anger
===========
Once you land, you will be in Anger. There is a soul fountain to your left and
Virgil waits ahead on the path. Talk with him to receive the "Anger"
commentary. Follow the path and stare at the early visions of Anger. Jump
across and then use the rope to cross the river to the Beatrice Statue. Follow
the path until you come to a clearing. You will have to clear a few waves of
Minions, Pests, and a couple Gorger Worms to proceed. When you get to the end
of the path, jump to the land in the middle of the river and swing across to
the other side. You will begin to hear Lucifer talking about making Beatrice
his wife. As you are swinging across, you will see a fountain on a higher
ledge. Pull the crate back and jump up to open it and receive a Piece of Silver
[SP19]. Pull the crate back farther and push it over the edge onto the pillar
behind you. Jump on top of the crate and the pillar will sink.

Walk down this new path until you see Virgil. Talk to him and he will give you
the "Pigs in the Mire" commentary and the relic Medusa's Call. Dante will ask
about the tower you saw earlier and Virgil will tell you that it if for
ferrying the Damned. He will tell you to ask for the boatman. Walk over to the
interaction point and climb on the wall. The wall will branch up and down.
Going up will lead you to a soul fountain; going down will lead on. Once you
reach the end of the wall, drop down and proceed. You will enter a fight with
some Seductresses, Exploding Minions, and a new enemy: Fire Guardians. Fire
Guardian will appear as black smoke that will move around the arena. Once they
light up, hit them with a Holy Cross attack and then use the scythe. They are
basically stronger Fire Minions. Once the fight is over, break the door on the
right to reveal the Damned soul of Boudica. Jump to reach her.

Continue along the path that opened after killing all the enemies. Jump up to
reach a Health fountain and the rope across to continue. Grab on and swing
across. Go all the way across the rope to a ledge with a Mana fountain and
fountain that will have a Beatrice Stone [BS5] if don't already have 3. When
you first drop down onto the platform in the middle, the platform will sink,
making it unable for you to jump up to the ledge. You will have to fight off a
few Guardian Demons and a few Throne Demons to raise the platform so you can
proceed. Jump up and you will see a fountain with a Piece of Silver [SP20]
inside. Continue down the path and climb the wall when you come to it. When you
get to the top, you will see a Beatrice Statue. Down the path to the left is a
Health fountain and a Mana fountain. Continue down the path and you will come
to a room with a crank. When you first enter, Dante will have flashback. Before
you turn the crank, go into the right corner of the room to find the Damned
soul of Hecuba.

Turn the crank all the way to lower the pillars around the fire. Once the
pillars begin to drop, the flames on the platform will die out, but once the
pillars make their way back to the top, the fire will reignite. Turn the crank
until it won't turn anymore and jump up on to the platform. Go over to the
giant wheel on the right and move it over to the left. Once it locks into
place, the platform will rise and you will have to kill a few Fire Minions. As
soon as they have all been killed, move the wheel back over to the right before
the fire cauldron reaches the platform. The platform will rise again and you
will have to kill off some Fire Minions, Exploding Minions, and a Fire
Guardian. Destroy the object blocking the wheels path and move it before the
cauldron reaches the platform. As you progress farther up, you will have to
destroy more objects and enemies to move the wheel. Once you make it to the
top, destroy both objects and move the wheel to the right. A platform will
lower with a climbable wall. If at any time you are on the platform and the
cauldron lines up with it, you will die if the flames touch you before you make
the platform rise or reach the wall. Pull the lever at the top of the platform

Once you pull the lever, a platform next to you will fall and the tower comes
to life. The camera will pull away and you will see the statues on top of the
tower straighten and begin to breathe fire. You will then see a platform way
down below you moving towards the tower. Once you regain control of Dante, hop
onto the platform next to you and continue to the right side. Jump up a
platform to destroy the fountain for a Piece of Silver [SP21]. Jump up another
platform and destroy the Demon Dog for the Guiding Flame relic. Go back down
and talk with Virgil and he will tell you about the City of Dis and add "The
City Draws Near" commentary to your Journal. Go to the glowing orb and slide
down the bone ladders. When you land, you will be in front of the platform you
saw move towards the tower, between a Beatrice Statue and the Damned soul of
Filippo Argenti.

Jump onto the platform and it will begin to move. As you are riding along, you
will have to kill off some Pests. When the camera pans toward one of the heads
in the marsh, Pests will appear from it. When you reach the other side, more
Pests will appear and a giant hand will come up from the water, and kill the
Pests for you. Then you will have to follow the sequence Square, Triangle,
Square, X and you will land safely for the boss fight.

***Fight vs. Phlegyas***

When the fight begins, you will stare at a gate and then some Minions will
swarm. At some point, Phlegyas will slam his fist somewhere in the arena, so be
careful. After killing off the first set of Minions, a Hoarder-Waster will
appear with more Minions, a few of them will be Exploding Minions. Once all the
enemies have been killed, the gate will be lowered and you can proceed. After
you pass through the gate, you will see Beatrice and Lucifer appear from behind
a statue of a kneeling woman. After they disappear, open the Health and Soul
fountains and continue to the left. Jump and press R1 to scythe swing across to
the other side and open the Mana fountain.

Eventually, Phlegyas will stop in front of where you are and the fighting
continues. This time you will have to fight off Unbaptized Babies, Seductresses
of Lust, a Glutton, and a Guardian Demon. Once all have been killed Phlegyas
will move on and the gate will drop. Pull the lever near the edge and a bridge
will come together, allowing you to move on. Run across the bridge before it
falls back to its original position and open the Health fountain. Make your way
towards the tower and a Guardian Demon will appear. Another Guardian Demon will
appear along with some Pests. Once they have all been killed, six more Guardian
Demons will appear. After a few seconds, Phlegyas will breathe fire, so double
jump to avoid it and the Demons will be killed. A few waves of Guardian Demons,
Throne Demons, Seductresses and a Glutton later, the platform that the first
Guardian Demon appeared on will lower and you only need to kill 2 Throne
Demons. Once they have died, a gate will lower, revealing a lever. Pull it and
the platform you are on will rise.

You will watch a cut scene with Beatrice and Lucifer. Lucifer will give
Beatrice a pomegranate and three seeds will fall out. Beatrice will eat them
and then be transformed. For those who know Greek mythology, this is the same
way Hades kept Persephone in Hell for three months out of each year. She will
kiss Lucifer and they disappear. Dante then jumps on Phlegyas and controls him.
Walk down the bridge, and as you do, the camera will begin zooming out and
Dante will retell more of his past as you see over the wall and into the City
of Dis. Use Phlegyas to break down the door and go towards the running
creatures and follow the path. Destroying anything will reward you with souls,
so go ahead and bring the place to the ground. Once you get to a bridge, it
will begin to crumble. Stomp on it a few times and it will fall out from under
Phlegyas. Dante will then jump to safety.

Climb down the ropes until you reach the third one. Swing over and destroy the
breakable object and the platform above will collapse. Climb back to the top of
the rope and jump up onto the ledge. Save at the Beatrice Statue and go to the
left side and turn the crank to retract the spikes. When you try and go back to
the rope, you will have to kill 3 Minions first. After you have killed them, go
back and turn the crank and go back to the rope. Use the rope to swing across
to the bone ladder and slide down to the rope below. Shimmy across the rope to
the left. After the fire pad, position yourself above another rope and drop
down. There will 3 Pests to the right of the rope and then 3 Pests to the left
of the rope on your left. From the left rope, swing across to the bone ladder
on the other side of the fire plates. Drop down the ladder and then to another
one when there aren't any flames blocking your path. When you reach the bottom
of the third ladder, a ray of light will shine and break through a few walls,
but you can't reach there right now, so drop down off the ladder into Heresy

============
DI2I. Heresy
============
When you land in Heresy, you will see Virgil and Health and Mana fountains. You
will also hear a Demon Dog, but one can't be seen. When you talk with Virgil,
he will tell you about Heresy, adding the "Heresy" commentary, and talking
twice will give you the Rage of Farinata relic. Open the fountains and then the
Demon Door. Proceed through the door and a Throne Demon will appear. Kill it
and activate the lever along the left wall. Pull it and the fires will
disappear and another Throne Demon and some Fire Guardians will appear. Kill
them and proceed on and to an opening on the left. Climb along the wall until
you are back on the ground. In this hallway, you will see two fountains. Don't
try to open them yet. A Throne Demon will appear at the far end of the hallway
and make its way over to a lever. Make your way over there as well and kill it.
Once you have killed it and any Minions that spawn, pull the lever and open the
fountains. The one on the right has a Piece of Silver [SP22] inside. When you
try to make your way to the Demon Door, another Throne Demon will appear and
pull the lever. Kill it and pull the lever again to lower the fire and open the
Door.

When you open the Door, you will see Virgil. Talk with him to receive "The
Harrowing" commentary. After you talk with him, jump and grab onto a bone
ladder. Climb up and open the fountains you find up here. In one of the
corners, there is a Demon Dog that will give you Calvacanti's Blade when you
destroy it. If you are still trying to find a Beatrice Stone [BS6], the
fountain next to the Demon Dog will have one for you. Go back down to where you
came from and drop down from there. Drop down a couple bone ladders onto a rope
spanning the chasm. Make your way across and drop down. There will be Health
and Mana fountains as well as Emperor Frederick II, one of the Damned. Pass
judgment, open the fountains, and continue down the ramp. When you enter this
room, you will have your first encounter with a Heretic. When you first begin
the fight, you will notice a purple orb over it. This is part of the Heretic's
Special Ability. Whenever there is a Heretic in a fight, whether it is alone or
in a group, no enemy can be harmed by Holy Cross attacks until the Heretic has
been defeated. After you kill the first, a second will appear with a few
Minions. Proceed through the opening that appears after the gate drops.

Climb across the wall, avoiding the fire until you come to a Beatrice Statue.
Open the two nearby fountains and follow the path. Gates will then rise,
locking you in with a Throne Demon. After he is defeated, a Heretic will appear
with a few Fire Guardians. Because the only way to kill Fire Guardians it to
hit them with a Holy Cross attack first, you must kill the Heretic first so
that your Holy Cross attacks take effect. You can also use a Holy Spell to put
out their flames. Pull the lever a cauldron above you will begin to pour out
its contents. Then, the statue in the middle of the path will rise, revealing a
Demon Door. Open the door and climb along the wall on the left. When you reach
the top, you will see Virgil. Talk with him and receive the commentary
"Epicurus". On the left side of the ledge are Health and Mana fountains. Go
through the Demon Door to proceed.

When you enter this room, make your way to the left side and grab the box and
pull it onto the button in the middle of the room. Once you place it on the
button, a ledge in front of the middle flame will shake and then rise up a
little. Once the platform shakes, hold the O button and push the box onto the
platform. Jump up on the box to next ledge. When you attempt to make your way
towards the lever, you will enter a fight with a Pagan. These creatures are
like stronger Heretics; however, these creatures don't have the ability to
negate Holy Cross attacks. After killing it, you will have to kill another one
and a Heretic. You should probably have the "Confessional" Trophy after these
fights. Pull the lever to stop the flames for later. After the fight, go
through the doorway on the left pass judgment on the soul of Cavalcante de
Cavalcanti.

After judging Cavalcanti, climb along the wall. When you get to the points
where you have to jump across a gap, make sure that not yellow fireballs are
falling or they will knock you down and you will die. After two come in quick
succession, jump across. Once you reach the bottom, open the Demon Door. First,
go to the right and open the Health and Mana fountains. Then go to the far
right corner of the area and open the fountain for a Piece of Silver [SP23].
Grab the box the is nearby and bring it back to the lever at the beginning of
room. Place along the wall, next to the cauldron. Pull the lever to have the
cauldron pour out what gets dumped into it and the statue will rise. Push the
crate you brought here underneath the back lip of the cauldron so it and the
statue don't reset to their original positions. Once the cauldron tries to
reset, the gate that remained up earlier will now drop. A note will appear on
the bottom of the screen saying "Wisdom of St. Lucia: Your time here is done.
Go back the way you came from". As you backtrack and jump off the ledge where
you fought the Heretic and Pagans, you will have to kill off some Fiends. They
are pretty much the same as Pests, except they shoot ice and it cannot be
blocked.

Once you make your way back to where the statue was when you originally entered
the level, you will have to fight a Pagan, then a Heretic and some Fire Minions
in the same spot where you fought a Throne Demon and a Heretic with some Fire
Guardians. After the battle, the gates will drop once more, allowing you to
continue. Open the fountains and then climb up the wall and follow it until you
reach a ledge with a Demon Door. Enter the room and open the fountain. Jump on
the first platform and then jump onto the second platform. Kill the Pests that
you encounter. You may have to wait a while for the second platform to come
back down. As you are riding up on the second platform, jump to the right,
above the first platform to reach an alcove with a Demon Dog and fountain. The
fountain contains a Piece of Silver [SP24] and the Dog will give you the Seal
of Epicurus relic. You can either wait for the second platform to come down or
drop down back onto the first to continue. When the second platform reaches the
top, jump into the alcove on the left to find the soul of Farinata. Pass
judgment and get back onto the second platform. Make your way to the third
platform. Once you reach the top, pull the lever and the fire will be
deactivated.

Continue down this path and jump up to a rope when you reach the end. Once you
reach the end drop down and open the fountain. Pull the lever to empty another
cauldron and raise the statue further, eventually destroying it. Jump onto the
remains and up to the ledge. Use the Beatrice Statue if you wish and open the
Demon Door. Climb along the wall on the left and drop down once you reach the
corner. Open the fountains and drop down the bone ladder. You will reach the
ledge with Demon Dog that you have passed a few times but was unable to reach.
Destroy the Dog for the relic Frederick's Ring and open the fountain for a
Piece of Silver [SP25] and climb back up.

Make you way to edge past the fountains and the stalactites will begin to fall
since the level started shaking when you opened the Demon Door. Wherever there
is a spot in the ground is where the stalactites will land. Wait for the one to
land on the spot nearby and jump across. After crossing, a stalactite will land
on the second spot. When you cross over the bit of the floor, it will fall
down. Make your way to the end of the path and jump onto the first ledge. You
have to be quick here because the ledges can and will give away at any instant
and fall into the dark abyss. After jumping off the second ledge, you will
watch the third ledge crumble away. Jump and press R1 to swing to the next
ledge. As you let go and fly through the air, part of that ledge will break
away and you will land and cling to the wall. Climb up and run down the path.
As you are making your way across, ledges will break away right in front of you
and, if you are not quick and careful, from right underneath you. Once you
reach the last ledge, a giant wall will break away and you will have to grab
onto the climbable wall behind it. Climb up and run down the path. Once you get
out into the open, a rock will fall, blocking the way back and you will receive
the Trophy "The Harrowing" for escaping.

Talk with Virgil before you begin your descent into Violence. After having a
long conversation with him about the remaining three Circles, you will receive
the "Three More Circles" commentary. Use the Beatrice Statue if you wish and
begin the descent into Violence. Drop down the bone ladder to enter

==============
DI2J. Violence
==============
Once you grab the first rope, make your way to the end and drop to the second
rope. Do NOT drop to the third rope yet; instead go all the way to end to the
ledge with many a collectable. First, open the fountain to find a Piece of
Silver [SP26]. Next, judge the soul of Attila. Then, destroy the Demon Dog for
the Shoe of Nessus relic. Jump back onto the rope, go back, and drop down onto
the third rope. When you reach the end of the third rope, let go and press R1
to grab the grapple point and swing to the next rope. Shimmy to the end and
drop down to the rope below. Slide down and destroy the rock to cause the
statue holding the axe to rotate. Turn the wheel until it won't turn anymore
and the statue will snap back. Do this two more times and this time, the axe
head will break the object blocking the path ahead and create a grapple point.
Climb back up the rope and swing over towards the axe head. Grapple the axe and
swing over to the bone ladder and slide down.

Once you land, make your way over towards Virgil. You will stopped and the
camera will pan around the area. Go talk with Virgil and you will receive the
commentary "Violence". Continue to the end of the path and open the Health and
Mana fountains. Jump up to the ledge and you will face a new enemy: an Arch
Demon. They will use their wings as a shield to block your attacks. When you
get their health low enough, R2 will appear over them and you will tear off
their wings. Lower their health more and you can judge them. Jump to the next
platform and climb up the bone ladder. There will be a furnace that will expel
fire across the entire floor, slowly chipping away at Dante's health. Make your
way to the left side of the floor and grapple onto the hanging interaction
point to swing over to the other side. Two Arch Demons will spawn. Kill them
and make your way to the far end of the floor. Drop down the wall and open the
fountain for a Piece of Silver [SP27]. Climb back up and drop down the wall to
the left of the furnace. Climb farther along the wall and you will find a Demon
Dog with the relic Attila's Armor in its possession

Jump onto the platform and quickly jump from platform and into the cage and out
the other end. You will have to be quick about making it from platform to
platform and cage because jumping on one will cause it to sink. Once you reach
the other side you will hear Lucifer talking to you but he won't appear. Jump
up to the ledge on the left and open the fountain for a Piece of Silver [SP28].
Talk with Virgil and the commentary "Wood of Suicides" commentary. Save at the
Beatrice Statue and continue along the path. As you make your way along the
path, a Seductress will appear and the plant will drop three balls of light,
killing the Seductress. Ahead, another tree will start doing the same thing.
Attack the glowing red spot on the right and it will stop and you can continue.

As you progress farther through the woods, a bunch of roots will pop out of the
ground, preventing you from going back. You will then hear a woman calling
Dante and you will see another suicide tree ahead. When it begins dropping
whatever it is that it drops, don't get too close otherwise it will suck you in
and, if you don't press the O button enough or quickly Dante will stab himself,
hence suicide tree. Another tree lies ahead on the path, but it can be stopped
by attacking the red light next to the Health fountain. Continue along the path
and you will see another tree near a Mana fountain. Once you enter the
clearing, you will be ambushed by a Heretic and some Fiends. After all of them
have been killed, the flames blocking the path will disappear. Continue along
the path and open the Soul fountain. Farther down the path will be the soul of
Pietro della Vigna.

After judging the soul, continue down the path and you will slide to the bank
of the river. As you hear Lucifer, open the fountain and jump across. Grab the
block and push it across along the path next to the Mana fountain and place it
in front of the incline. Open the Health and Mana fountains and grab the block.
Hold the O button to throw it up the incline. Jump onto the block and up to the
Beatrice Statue. Attack the red light and follow the path and you will end up
coming out where the roots appeared out of the ground earlier.

Continue through the path that you just opened up. As you make your way towards
the ledge, the camera will face a pool of blood. A wall of flames will appear
and a tree with a few plants will drop down over the arena. Whenever it drops
down, the red orb that you need to hit to cause it to go back up will appear in
the center, near the pool. During the fight, there will be some Minions and
Throne Demons. When all the enemies have been defeated, you will see a figure
in the vines and Virgil will appear at your side. About halfway through, you
will find out that the woman hanging is Dante's mother. She will also tell you
how she died and that you can still save Beatrice. After you absolve her
(happens during the cut scene, you don't do anything), you will receive your
final spell, Suicide Fruit. After the cut scene, the fight will continue and
you will have to kill more Minions and Throne Demons.

Double jump up to the ledge and you will come to a desert area. Talk with
Virgil and get the "Abominable Sands" commentary. Continue towards the Beatrice
Statue and open the Health fountain. Continue down the path and open the Mana
fountain. Continue on and get rid of the Exploding Minions. Open the soul
fountain and jump up on the block. Double jump up to the ledge to find the soul
of Brunetto Latini. Absolve him if you want the Trophy "Old Friend". Open the
fountain next to him for a Piece of Silver [SP29]. Continue ahead and you will
be ambushed a couple Heretics, Fire Minions, and a Throne Demon. As you walk
ahead, you will see another Damned soul. Jump over the boiling blood and pass
judgment on Guido Guerra. On the ledge near where you jump from will be a
fountain. Open it to find the final Piece of Silver [SP30]. Enter the building
and open the Health and Mana fountains.

When you try and continue on, you will come to a large room with an arch at the
end. Dante will see the remains of a ship and then have a flashback.
Afterwards, you will enter a fight with Damned Crusaders. These creatures are
weak and the only thing they have to help them is their shield. After the have
all been killed, follow the path around and kill off some Fiends. After jumping
to the platform, jump up to the platform on your right and kill any fiends that
appear. Open the fountain for some souls. Jump to the ledge on the left and
destroy the Demon Dog for the Memory of Acre relic. Jump back to the ledge with
the fountain and double jump off the far end to continue on.

Once you reach the next room, you will have to move a platform from the bottom
of the room to the top. You will fight off endless waves of Minions and Throne
Demons. To move on, push the platform up to the top and jump the two ledges on
the left. Jump on the platform as it SLOWLY rolls back down and jump to the
ledge with the Health Fountain. Climb the wall and follow the path to the
Beatrice Statue, Mana fountain, and Virgil. Talk with him before you climb down
and he will add "The River Phlegethon" to your journal. Slide down the bone
ladder in front of him and get ready for the boss fight

***Fight vs. Francesco***

When you land, Francesco will appear and he is really pissed off with you.
Francesco is sort of a weaker version of Marc Antony. Most of his attacks are
short range attacks. He has a couple of quick slash attacks. If you are far
enough away from him, he will throw a sword at you and then pull another one
out of his back. Eventually, he will throw a sword and it will get stuck in the
ground. Then go to the sword to grab and throw it at Francesco to break his
shield. You can also break the shield by attacking him enough. While his shield
is destroyed, give him hell and use any attack that you know to lower his
health. His shield is his main source of power. It will greatly reduce the
amount of damage he takes, but without it, his defense is very weak.

After a while without his shield, he will create a new shield and summon 3
Damned Captains at the same time. The physical difference between Crusaders and
Captains is that the Captain's shields are surrounded in flames. Keep wailing
on him until he has no health left and R2 appears above him. When that does,
Dante will jump in his back and you will have to quickly press the O button to
pull out the sword that goes through his heart. After you do that, you will
receive the relic Francesco's Forgiveness. You will then watch Francesco trying
to make sense of what happened and then Dante will absolve him. You will
receive the Trophy "Brotherhood" and the platform will begin to descend. As you
are going down, you will have to fight off Damned Captains, a pair of Arch
Demons, and a pair of Heretics. Once you reach the bottom, you will have
entered Fraud.

===========
DI2J. Fraud
===========
After riding the lift down after defeating Francesco, open the Health and Mana
fountains and save at the Beatrice Statue. As you try and continue on, Dante
will recall something about the Malebolge. You will then see Beatrice being
carried towards you by Guardian Demons. While Dante pleads with Beatrice to
come back to him, she says that there are 10 circles in Fraud. Before she
disappears, she will tell a new enemy, the Malacoda, to show you your final
resting place. The Malacoda is pretty much a Throne Demon with the abilities of
one and the abilities of Fire creatures. Their attack style is the same as a
Throne Demon, but they are able to turn into fire at will. Just like with the
Fire creatures, hit them with a Holy Cross attack to extinguish the flames.
After you have killed it, continue across the bridge. As you continue down the
path, you will see the Damned soul of Thias the Harlot on ledge to the right of
a Demon Door. Pass judgment and open the door.

After opening the door, pull the lever to lower the lift. Once you reach the
bottom, open the Health and Mana fountains and follow the path to the right.
Open the door and you will hear Beatrice's voice. This room is for the
Panderers and Seducers. In each challenge, you will be given and objective. If
you can complete the objective within a certain time limit, you will receive
1,500 bonus souls per challenge. Once you open the door, jump onto the
platform. As you approach the other side, you will need to jump because the
platform will go into the hole in the wall and you will fall. Go to the center
of the arena to activate the Challenge.

Panderers and Seducers-Infinite Magic
Objective: Kill all Enemies using Infinite Mana
Bonus Soul objective: Complete in under 75 seconds

Because you have unlimited amounts of Mana, it is recommended to constantly use
Sins of the Father. If you are playing on a lower difficulty, the amount of
damage the enemies take before they die is lowered, making it easier to
complete in the time limit for the bonus souls. This is also an excellent place
to get a few Trophies. Through this challenge, it is possible to get
"Superstition", "Masterpiece", and "Poetry in Motion". If you are going for
"Poetry in Motion" you may need to come back and do the challenge on Infernal
difficulty otherwise the challenge may be complete before you reach 666. Some
useful relics for this challenge are Coin of Plutus, which increases the combo
window and hit count, Medusa's Call, which increases the amount of damage dealt
from Dante's ranged and projectile attacks, and Tristan's Desire, which
increases the amount of damage done by Magic attacks. The only catch is you
have to have Holy Level 5 to use Medusa's Call. After the challenge is
complete, a bridge will fall and you can proceed.

Go across the bridge and climb along the wall. Once you make your way to the
other end of the wall, open the Health and Mana fountains and use the Beatrice
Statue, if you wish. Follow the path to the left and open the Demon Door to the
next room. There will be a metal claw hanging from the ceiling with a grapple
point inside. The claw will close so you will have to be quick about crossing
otherwise the claw will close and Dante will fall and die. Head towards the
center to activate the next challenge

Flatterers-100 Combo
Objective: Get a 100-hit combo
Bonus soul objective: Complete in under 30 seconds

As compared to fighting about 1 out of every 4 creatures you have met in the
previous challenge, the only creatures you need to fight in this challenge are
Guardian Demons and Greed Minions. You can either keep slashing away with the
scythe or spamming the Holy Cross. Either way, once you reach a 100-hit combo,
any remaining enemies will instantly die and a bridge will fall to the arena.
The useful relics for this challenge are Coin of Plutus, Memory of Acre, which
makes it so that Dante cannot be harmed while executing Holy Cross attacks, and
Shoe of Nessus, which makes your Light scythe attacks unavoidable. To use
Memory of Acre, you need to be Holy Level 5 and to use Shoe of Nessus, you need
to be Unholy Level 5.

Go across the bridge, onto the platform and pull the lever. Once you pull the
lever, the chains holding the platform will break. The platform will fall a
little, stop and shake, and then begin to fall again. A few seconds after it
begins falling again, an opening will appear on the left. As soon as you see
it, jump over to it or else will fall to your death. Continue down the path and
open the Health and Mana fountains and use the Beatrice Statue. Open the Demon
Door on the right and listen to Beatrice. There is a platform on the left and
on the right tht rise and fall on their own, by themselves. Jump across and
walk into the center for the next challenge.

Simonists-Air Kills
Objective: Kill 5 enemies while they are airborne
Bonus souls objective: Complete in under 1 minute

Considering that neither of the enemies you will face fly naturally, this
challenge can be pretty tough the get the bonus souls from. There will always
be a Guardian Demon and 2 Damned Captains in the arena at once. The only enemy
that you will be able to get into the air is the Guardian Demon. Keep hammering
away at them until R2 appears above them. Hold Triangle to perform Diabolic
Ascension and keep using the Light attacks until they die. Repeat this until
the challenge is complete and the bridge falls down.

Cross the bridge and jump up to grab the rope. Swing across and drop down onto
the bone ladder. Slide down onto another rope and swing across it. Once you
drop down from the second rope, you will find the Damned soul of Tiresias.
After passing judgment, open the Health and Mana fountains and save at the
Beatrice Statue. Open the Demon Door to continue. To make your way to the
arena, jump onto the platform when it reaches the ledge you are on. It won't
stay and I wouldn't recommend walking onto it. You will have to jump onto a
falling platform. Once it drops and hits the wall, it pops right back up and
stays for a few seconds.

Sorcerers-Stay in the Air
Objective: Stay in the air for 8 seconds
Bonus souls objective: Kill 2 enemies while completing challenge in the air

The only enemies that you will have to deal with are a pair of Guardian Demons.
This is probably the best chance at getting "Poetry in Motion" in your first
playthrough. Just keep using your highest Holy Cross attack (preferable Holy
Barrage or Holy devastation) on them until you reach 666. You will want to have
Coin of Plutus equipped to help you reach 666 because it increases the amount
of time that you have to attack and maintain your Hit Counter. You will want to
keep the Demons on opposite sides. One you have hit the O button the maximum
amount of times on one Demon, turn around and do the same thing to the other
Demon. There will times where it is hard to keep them on opposite sides. If
they block your attacks long enough, your timer will reset because the hits
have to land. Holy Devastation comes in handy here because the final wave is
unblockable. Now back to the challenge. This one is sort of tough. You have to
remain in the air of 8 seconds in one jump. The best way to do this is to
weaken one of the Demons down until R2 appears. You will want to punish the
Demon and have the finisher be the one where you jump on it's back and try to
decapitate it. The best way to do this without the Demon throwing you off are
to hit O three times, count to one, and repeat until the challenge is over and
the bridge drops.

When you get onto the elevator, you will notice that the wheel needs to be
destroyed. Once you do that, the left will begin to drop and you will, once
again, have to jump off at the right time to continue on. About a second after
it starts dropping, you should see the opening begin to appear on the left.
Jump onto the ledge and open the Health and Mana fountains and use the Beatrice
Statue. Open the Demon Door on the right and you will see a platform with a
crank on it. Turn it until the platform lines up with the arena and then a
little more. Once you let go of the crank, the platform will quickly begin to
return to its original position.

Politicians-Protect Innocent
Objective: Destroy all enemies and protect the human
Bonus souls objective: Keep all innocents alive

There will be two humans in the lower corners of the arena and Exploding
Minions will spawn from the upper corners of the arena. The main goal is to
keep at least one civilian alive long enough to complete the challenge. As time
ticks away (There is no timer on the HUD), the Minions will begin spawning
faster. When the challenge first begins, you can grab them and throw them;
however, you will want to be careful where you aim because if you throw them
into the humans, they will die. If both of the humans die, you will
automatically fail the challenge. As you progress farther through the
challenge, the Minions will begin spawning 2-4 at a time. Your best bet is to
stand near the center and keep using Holy Cross attacks. Once you hit them,
they will divert their attention towards you. If they happen to kill one of the
humans, move from the middle to in front of the remaining human because the
Minions travel in a straight path from their spawn corner to the human corner,
unless you hit them first. Cross the bridge once it drops.

You will have to maneuver your way along the ropes and drop from rope to rope
until you reach the fourth rope and you will end up over the ledge. Walk down
it, open the Health and Mana fountains and use the Beatrice Statue. Open the
Demon Door and to reach the arena in this challenge is sort of like reaching it
for the second challenge (Flatterers-100 Combo). The difference is that this
claw will wiggle a little before the grapple point becomes visible

Hypocrites-No Magic
Objective: Kill all Enemies without using Mana
Bonus souls objective: Complete in under 1 minute

The first wave of enemies you have to face include a Throne Demon and some
Damned Crusaders. Once you have killed off all of them, the next wave will
appear, consisting of a Heretic (who will usually appear first), some Damned
Captains, and more Damned Crusaders. Once you have killed off about half of the
wave, a Beast Tamer, riding an Asterian Beast, will push down the bridge and
the challenge will be cancelled. You will still have to survive the enemy
onslaught, but now you are allowed to use Magic since the challenge was
cancelled when the Beast entered the arena, which means no bonus souls. Once
have taken control of the Beast, you will bear Beatrice say "You have stolen
everything from me", and a giant statue will fall. The Beast will grab it and
you will have to hit O quickly a few times to have the Beast toss it back up.
You will dismount the Beast and land on top of a giant piece of falling rubble.
As you are falling, you will be prompted to swing across using R1 and then will
fall and grab onto a rope.

Once you land on the rope, shimmy to the left and drop down. Open the Health
and Mana fountains near the Beatrice Statue and save if you want. Go to the
right and open the Demon Door to enter the next room. To reach the arena, jump
onto the first platform when it comes near the ledge. About halfway there, jump
onto the second platform and quickly jump up to the arena because the ledge
goes into a hole in the wall and Dante will fall to his death.

Thieves-Losing Health
Objective: Kill all enemies-before health depletes
Bonus souls objective: Complete in under 1 minute

There are three waves in this challenge. During the fights, Dante's health will
slowly begin to be chipped away. If you have already purchased Divine Armor or
Blessed Spirit Tap, you probably won't notice your health depleting because you
will just as easily regain it. The first wave includes some Fiends and Minions,
and overall isn't very hard. The next wave will include some Guardian Demons
and Seductresses of Lust. If you have Shoe of Nessus and can equip it, it will
be very useful in killing the Seductresses. The final wave has some Damned
Crusaders and a Glutton. Once you have killed off the final wave, the bridge
will be lowered, allowing you to proceed.

When you reach the lift, you will see an interaction point on the climbable
wall. You will have to scale the wall to reach the next area. There is a reason
for the lift to be there however. Once you have made it far enough down the
wall, the chains will break and the lift will begin free falling. If you are
underneath the lift, you will be killed and have to start climbing again. Once
you reach the end of the wall, head down the hall and open the fountains and
use the Beatrice Statue. Open the Demon Door on the left and enter the next
room. When you enter this room, you will see a line of fire in front of the
arena. There will be a platform that will pass underneath the fire. When it
reaches the ledge jump on it. Jump over the fire and onto the arena before the
platform reaches the hole.

Evil Counselors-No Block
Objective: Kill all Enemies-while unable to block
Bonus souls objective: Complete in under one minute.

At first glance, this challenge doesn't seem to be too hard. You start out
having to kill a pair of Hoarder-Wasters. Once they have been destroyed, you
may wish that you were able to block. The next wave includes Minions and a pair
of Seductresses. The best way to keep them busy is to use Sins of the Father on
them while you take out the Minions, then you will be able to focus your
attention on them. Once you have killed them off because they will most likely
be the last enemies you take out, the bridge will fall and you can proceed

When you cross the bridge, drop down the bone ladder on the left side of the
ledge. From there you will have to drop down to a rope and shimmy across to the
other side. Once you reach the other side, drop down and grab onto the
climbable wall. Make your way down and around and pull yourself up. Open the
fountains and save at the Beatrice Statue, then open the Demon Door at the end
of the hallway. To reach the arena, you will have to turn another platform with
a crank in the center. You will want to turn this one a little farther than you
did with the previous challenge that had this entrance because there is a fire
gate on the platform that you will have to jump over

Sowers of Discord-Single Combo
Objective: Kill all Enemies without resetting the Hit Counter
Bonus souls objective: Complete in under 1 minute.

The enemies you have to face are a bunch of Minions, Babies and some Guardian
and Throne Demons. Because the challenge is to kill all enemies in one combo,
you will definitely want to have Coin of Plutus equipped. The best way to go
about this challenge is to continuously use Holy Cross attacks. To make this
challenge a little easier, also equip Lord's Blessing, to increase the damage
Holy Cross attacks inflict, and Medusa's Call (if you can), to increase the
damage your ranged and projectile attacks inflict. Do not pass judgment on any
enemies because in the time it would take to do so, your Hit Counter will most
likely be reset. When a Demon is in the arena, focus on it. The other enemies
you will have to kill will usually die after using Holy Devastation and having
each wave land, but the Demons take a little longer to kill. Once all enemies
have been vanquished, the bridge will drop.

Go to the elevator and pull the lever. The elevator will begin to drop rapidly,
but it will stop once you reach the next hallway so there is no need to jump
off. Once the lift stops, you will see the Damned soul of Myrrha. Judge her and
continue on, opening the fountains and saving at the Beatrice Statue. Open the
Demon Door for your final challenge. To reach this arena, you will have to ride
the platform while jumping over two fire fences before the platform reaches its
hole.

Falsifiers-Endurance Test
Objective: Kill all Enemies
Bonus souls objective: Complete in under 5 minutes

Just by looking at the Bonus souls challenge, you should get the idea that
there is a reason why this test is named the Endurance Test. Hopefully you have
remembered the easiest way to kill every enemy you have faced up to this point.
In this challenge, you will face every enemy that can be found in your
Bestiary, except for the bosses. If this is your first playthrough, odds are,
you probably won't finish in under 5 minutes. The best relics to have equipped
for this challenge are Lord's Blessing, Death Blade, Francesco's Forgiveness,
and Ciacco's Bile. If you don't have enough room for all of them, just pick and
choose which ones you want to use, you can always switch them out at any time
during the challenge. Once you have killed off probably enough creatures to get
all of the "Kill X amount of enemies" Trophies, the bridge will drop and you
can proceed on.

Once you reach the end of the bridge, Beatrice will appear before you. Dante
will claim that he has faced all his sins, but Beatrice disagrees. She will
tell Dante to look into the Ninth and final Circle. As he looks out over the
edge, he will have another flashback to the Crusades. This probably would have
been at the end. You see a King asking who is responsible for the slaughter in
front of him. Francesco will tell Dante to look after Beatrice and then he
confesses. Before the flashback ends, you hear the King mutter something about
Saladin and Hell. Snapping back into reality, Beatrice gets mad because she
thinks that Francesco's death was your fault. Dante then realizes what he has
done and says that he has given up on his journey and his place is in Hell. He
then takes Beatrice's Cross, and says that maybe one day she will forgive him.
When she sees the cross, she then begins calm down and white smoke appears
around her. She will then return to the way she was in Florence and an angel
will appear and take her to Heaven. Before the angel leaves with Beatrice, he
will say that your redemption is near and that you will see her again.

Continue out of the arena and go to the left. Almost as soon as you disappear
behind the wall, you will find Virgil. Talk with him to receive "The Final
Circle" commentary. After he disappears, look down the path and you will see
some fountains, a Beatrice Statue, and a Damned Soul. Judge Fra Alberigo, save
at the Beatrice Statue and climb down the bone ladder. Drop down the second
bone ladder onto a rope. When you reach the rope, you will see one of the
giants Virgil talked of. Shimmy across the rope to the end and drop down onto
the platform. You will be ambushed by plenty of Pests and eventually an Arch
Demon. There will be another giant behind this ledge and he will breathe across
the arena. When he does, keep jumping back towards him (Although you can't
reach him) as he will try and blow you off the ledge. Once you have killed off
the two Arch Demons, some grapple points will appear to the right. Swing from
the first point over to the rope.

Once you are on the rope, you will have to get to the bottom and start swinging
towards the right and break the object in your way. Once you do, jump over to
the bone ladder. Go to the top, and you will find two soul fountains and a
Damned soul on top. After judging Mordred, slide down the bone ladder. When you
reach the bottom, wait for the giant to stop breathing. Let go and grapple to
the first point. Swing over to the second point and then over to the bone
ladder.

===============
DI2K. Treachery
===============
Once you land, you will slide down the icy slope. You will stop in front of
Virgil and stare out over a long, icy bridge. Talk with Virgil to receive the
"Treachery" commentary, the final Virgil commentary. If you have collected all
of them up to this point, you will receive "The Guide" trophy while talking
with him the first time. You must now make your way across the bridge. There is
only one safe path, and it is very narrow. If you step off the path, the ice
will begin to shake beneath you and fall away a few seconds later. If you look
closely (And by look closely I don't necessarily mean put your face a few
inches away from the TV screen) as you make your way along the bridge, you will
see that the safe path is just a bit lower than the unsafe areas. Once you
reach the end of the bridge, go to the left to find a Health and Mana fountain,
the final Damned soul of Count Ugolino. Pass judgment and then save using the
final Beatrice Statue. Destroy the breakable object and the ice will break
beneath you. Prepare yourself for the final battle

***Fight vs. Lucifer-Phase 1***

As you fall, you will see that the chain you just destroyed held Lucifer's
hands together. When you regain control of Dante the fight will begin. Lucifer
will begin to pound the arena with his fists. When he does this, it will emit a
fast-moving shockwave. The shockwave will not encompass the whole arena so if
you move towards either the left or the right, you will only have to avoid them
when the slams nearby. After he slams the arena a few times, a light will shine
in the center of the arena. This will happen when he slams the arena and
icicles come out of the ground. Run to it and press R2, and be quick in getting
there because the light doesn't last very long. When you are hovering close to
his face, attack him a few times with light scythe attacks or combos until he
rears back in pain, sort of like King Minos. Then attack his lower stomach
using Holy Cross attacks. After a few blows from Holy Cross, he will use his
wings to create a strong gust across the arena. He will then send out two
tornadoes in the arena. If you get caught in them, quickly hit X to get out.
Once he gets down around 50% health remaining, he will slam his fists into the
arena quicker and use both hands at times. After stunning him using the light
in the center of the arena about 4 times, he will switch to the next phase. You
should equip Lord's Blessing, Medusa's Call, and Ciacco's Bile (For when you
are low on health and need to use Divine Armor) for this fight.

***Fight vs. Lucifer-Phase 2***

Lucifer will begin to say that you are the reason he was freed. He will mention
other well-known historical names, but say that you had a soul blacker than all
of theirs. He will then open his chest and a smaller form will appear. Dante
will then say that he came down to save Beatrice and Lucifer will tell you that
she was only bait. In this fight, you Holy Cross attacks won't work as well on
him as before and he can return them to you, so you will have to rely on your
scythe. Lucifer has a few attacks in this form. His first one is a pair of
slashes at you with his sword and then the third slash will send a wave of
energy towards you. He will also try and push you out of the way, which won't
hurt you at all. On occasion, he will also jump up and you will receive some
Health and Mana. He will then slam back down into the ground, emitting a
shockwave that encompasses pretty much the whole arena. He can also use fire to
teleport somewhere in the arena and he will use one of two attacks. He will
either send out about 6-8 shockwaves, each one faster than the previous one, or
he will throw about 4 darts of concentrated energy towards you, and will charge
the fifth one. If the final one hits, it will take out a hefty chunk of health,
so try and dodge out of the way. You will want to use Redemption whenever you
have the chance because you scythe attacks will still seem like they are doing
little damage to him because of how much health he has. The relics you will
want to have equipped for this fight are Death Blade, Francesco's Forgiveness,
either Antony's Standard or Wasted Gold, and Eye of Alighiero. You can also sub
in Ciacco's Bile if you need to use Divine Armor and regain both health and
mana. Once you get him down to around 25% of his health, the fight will pause
and Lucifer beings going on a rant of how what he did was far less worse than
what Dante did. He will then complain that you were a flawed creation, made in
His image and that he would have to bow to you. He will thank you for breaking
the Chains of Judeca and allowing him to enter Purgatory, and eventually
Paradise. The fight will then continue and Lucifer will be flying around the
arena. He will still use most of the attacks he used earlier, except he will
not fight with his sword. You will have to press R1 to grapple to his horns and
then attack him in the air.

***Fight vs. Lucifer-Phase 3***

Once Lucifer reappears over the center of the arena, he will breathe fire into
the center of the pentagram. The five circles at each point of the pentagram
will rise. You will have to swing from circle to circle until you reach
Lucifer. When you reach the bottom of each platform, you will begin to fall and
you will have to hit R1 as you are falling to grab onto the next platform. Once
you make your way to the fifth platform, hit R1 again and you will grab onto
Lucifer. He will begin to fly up and you will have to move the Left analog
stick left, then right when prompted to avoid his attacks. The next sequence
will have you pressing Square and then hitting O rapidly. The two of you will
fall back to the arena and there will be an explosion.

The scene will begin playing with Lucifer with the scythe in his chest and
Dante standing next to him. Dante will approach to try and get the scythe but
Lucifer will stop you and clue you in on one minor detail. He will point you
towards the center and you will see the scene in the beginning where Dante gets
stabbed in the back. Dante will then see the scene and Lucifer will put it
plainly say that you are dead and can't go anywhere. He will then get up and
the scythe will burn up. He will then say the He has forbid it and then express
his feelings for you. Lucifer will then say that you will use the sins of man
and Dante's to get back into Paradise. Dante will then say that he has freed
many souls and ask for absolution. The cross on his chest will begin to erupt
with souls and Lucifer will try and coax Dante into using the power with
Lucifer. He will make one final attempt saying that he can reunite you with
Beatrice and you can rule the Three Realms of the Afterlife together. The souls
will surround Lucifer and you will use the cross to force him back into the
giant. The souls will freeze the giant's arms and slam into the ground in front
of you. The camera will flip to the other side and you will see Dante without
any clothes and Beatrice will come towards him. You will see the mountain of
Purgatory off in the distance and Dante will rip off the cross from his chest.
When it lands on the ground, it will burn up and turn into a snake and you will
hear Lucifer laughing in the background.

You will now be able to play the Gates of Hell arena and play again in
Resurrection mode. If you play in Resurrection mode, you will keep all you
relics that you have collected, abilities you have purchased, and experience
you have gained. You will start from right after you jump down into Hell. You
will have to re-find all the Pieces of Silver, Damned souls, and Virgil
commentaries if you missed any of them; although, if you received all Trophies
or Achievements for finding all of them, it won't really matter. When you go up
to a Beatrice Statue, you will be able to change Dante's costume there as well
as saving your progress. You will also be able to play on Infernal difficulty,
the highest difficulty, if you dare to choose it.

=======================
DI2L. Dark Forest (DLC)
=======================
To access the Dark Forest (after downloading it), select "Play Downloadable
Content" from the main menu. When you begin, you will watch the same cut scene
you watched when you first started the game, except after showing an overhead
of Dante's campsite, you take control of Dante. As soon as you try to leave the
campsite, you will be attacked by some alternate-looking Temptresses of Lust
and a Heretic. If you plan on using magic, make sure that your spells are set
to where you want them to be. You will also have a new Relic: Stone of Wrath.
Because this level is pretty much a prequel level, this will be the only relic
available to you while in the Forest. After killing off a few waves, you will
be allowed to proceed. When you reach the next clearing, you will see
Beatrice's soul. She tells you that she will send Virgil to guide you and then
disappears.

After she disappears, pass through the portal behind where Beatrice's soul
appears. When you reach the next area, you will see the man who killed Beatrice
and Alighiero, and he will run through a portal. Walk up to the statue in the
center and interact with it. It will tell you "The Moon's light shines from the
North. Travel East for the Spotted Leopard blocks all other roads." After the
box disappears, a ray of moonlight will shine from a random direction.
Whichever direction the moonlight comes from, go through the portal to the
right of the light (in a clockwise direction). In the next area, the assassin
will jump through another portal, and you will be attacked by some Fiends.
Remember to go through the portal to the right (clockwise) of the light. This
will happen in every area until you come to one with a bridge.

Cross over the bridge and you will see Beatrice's soul again. After she
disappears, you will be attacked by a variation of a Guardian Demon. Kill it
and the waves of Guardian Demons, Temptresses and Damned Captains. Interact
with the statue after all enemies have been killed. It will tell you "The
Moon's light shines from the North. Travel West to avoid the lion's ravenous
hunger." Then interact with the statue and move it until the ray of light
emitted from its mouth points to the entrance to the left (Counter-clockwise)
of the moonlight and go through that portal. In the next area, turn the lion
statue so that the ray of light points in the opposite direction that the other
ray of light is pointing. More or less, you want to make a straight line with
the light. Then go through the portal that the light from the lion is pointing
to. If you are passing through the correct portal, you will see the assassin
run through one of the portals. Keep doing this until you reach a new area.

Eventually, you will reach area with a wolf statue and the assassin will
disappear again. Kill the enemies that appear and interact with the statue. The
She Wolf will tell you "Seek the moon to reveal the murderer. Intercept him."
Pull the statue at the far end and place it in front of entrance at the top.
The moonlight will begin shifting around. When the light appears over the
portal on the left, run through. The assassin will come out of the portal on
the right. Run back the way you came and Dante will intercept him. The statue
you put in front of the top portal will melt away and the assassin will escape
that way. You will then need to kill some Fiends, Temptresses, Guardian Demons,
and a Malacoda before you can proceed. Follow the path and Dante will look out
over Florence. You will then receive the Dark Forest Rewards, one for making it
through, and one for making it through without getting lost. To get the second
one, you are not allowed to backtrack during the first two puzzles.

========================
DI3. Gates of Hell Arena
========================
After beating the game once, you will unlock the Gates of Hell arena. You can
find it on the Main Menu, underneath "Load Game". In the arena, you will have
to progress through as many waves of enemies as you can before you run out of
time. You will start with 5 minutes on the clock and time will begin counting
down once you begin. You can earn time by doing various tasks in each wave. You
can receive a 5 second bonus by passing judgment, a 15 second bonus by taking
no damage during the wave, and a 30 second bonus for completing the wave. Once
you have completed a wave, the clock will stop and won't start again until you
enter the next arena. To receive to Trophy or Achievement, you must clear all
50 waves before you run out of time.

=================
DI4. Collectables
=================
During your trek through Hell, you will come across various collectables. You
will be able to find Pieces of Silver. For every 5 that you find, you will
receive extra souls. You can also find Beatrice Stones. Finding 3 of them will
allow you to auto-absolve Damned souls. When you interact with on of the souls,
the auto-absolve option will be Triangle (PS3) or Y button (X360). By
auto-absolving, you will not play the mini-game or receive the bonus souls. You
can also find Relics. Some relics will require that you have reached a certain
Holy or Unholy level before you can equip them. As you gain souls, your
equipped relics will begin to level up, increasing the abilities that they
provide. If you die after finding any collectable before you reach a
checkpoint, you will have to get them again. Usually checkpoints are opening
Demon Doors, using lifts, and coming across a Beatrice Statue. All locations
listed are according to the walkthrough

===================
DI4A. Silver Pieces
===================
There are 30 Pieces of Silver scattered throughout Hell, but you find the last
one in Violence. For every 5 you collect, you earn an extra 3,000 souls. If you
start a new game in Resurrection Mode, the Pieces of Silver will be reset and
you will have to find all of them again. If you are having trouble finding one,
use the find function. The code for the coins is SP##. Replace the ## with the
number of the coin you are trying to find. The Pieces are divided into the
Circles they are found in.

Shores of Acheron
-----------------
01-This one (technically) isn't in the Shores of Acheron. After entering Hell,
you will climb along Damned Wall. When you reach the end you will see Virgil
for the second time. The fountain is in an alcove above Virgil

02-Shortly after entering the area, you will climb down an elevator and meet
your first Guardian Demon. Once this Demon and any other enemies have been
killed, a crank will appear on the lift. Turn it and make the lift go all the
way up and the fountain will be in an alcove on the left.

03-After defeating all the enemies that ambush you in one of the rooms after
passing the soul of Ponitus Pilate, you will pass through a door and there will
be a Beatrice Statue and a rope that leads to Charon. Behind the statue holding
the rope will be the fountain with the Piece of Silver inside.

04-In the first room you enter after boarding Charon, pull the crate from the
left side of the room and push it into an alcove on the right side. Turn the
crank until the platform lines up with the alcove you placed the crate in. Pull
it back across the platform and place it at the far end of the left wall. Jump
up to the fountain.

Limbo
-----
05-When you first enter Limbo, make your way over the climbable wall at the
right side of the path. Use the Exploding Demon that appears to open the door.
In this room, you will see Charon's head in the wall. Run along the left side
of this wall and you will eventually walk through a doorway. You will have to
kill off the Guardian Demon that appears before opening the fountain

06-After defeating King Minos and beginning your descent into Lust, you will
slide down a bone ladder and onto a rope. Swing over to the next rope and climb
up it first. The fountain will be on the ledge holding the rope.

Lust
----
07-When you are crossing the bridge after first entering Lust, make your way
down to the fourth set of statues. Once you pass the third set of statues, the
lightning balls will not bother you. Go the statue on the left and behind it
will be a climbable wall. Climb to the end to find the fountain

08-After you enter the tower and defeat the Temptresses, you will have to
destroy the snake fangs and climb up. You will see Beatrice on the platform and
then that platform will go up. Run across the platform and pull out the statue.
Go down the walkway to the left and pull the lever. Double jump back onto the
platform and jump to the ledge on the left. Open the fountain for the Piece of
Silver.

09-Once the platform reaches the top, go towards the left and climb along the
wall. Once you reach the top of the wall, there will be a Beatrice Statue. Go
to the left of the Statue and double jump towards the ledge to the left. In the
alcove will be the fountain

Gluttony
--------
10-After defeating Cerberus, you will see a fountain ahead on the path. When
you get close enough, a Gorger Worm will appear. Defeat the Worm and open the
fountain for the Piece of Silver

11-Inside the Mirror maze. When you begin trying to make your way through, run
through the door at the end of the path. Pull the lever in front of you when
you come out of the door. Go back through the door you came out of and go to
the right side of the path. Climb up to the top of the wall and the fountain
will be on top.

12- After making it out of the Mirror Maze, follow the path around and drop
down the rope. Drop down to the next rope and swing to the left. Jump and climb
up to the top of this rope. On this ledge will be a Piece of Silver fountain
next to a Demon Dog.

Greed
-----
13-When you first enter Greed, you will walk up a ramp and there will be Health
and Mana fountains in an alcove on the left. Soon after, you will see a ledge
on the right that you need to jump to. Once up there, double jump over to the
left and the fountain up there will give you a Piece of Silver

14-When you meet your first Hoarder-Waster; you will have to kill off all
enemies that appear until a lever appears in the center of the room. Pull that
lever and jump into the alcove with another lever right in front of you. The
coin is in the fountain next to the second lever.

15-In the room with the giant, spinning spiked contraption, you will have to
fight off enemies if you drop down below all the ledges you jump around on. The
fountain is on the right side, next to some molten gold. Kill the enemies
before opening it; it is safer that way.

16-After using the Asterian Beast to hold open the door when you go back into
the room with the saw blades, you will open the other door in that room and
then you will see Virgil in front of some prison cells. When you climb up the
wall at the end of the hall, climb over to the right and into the two cells.
The coin is in the cell of the left.

17-A little after Coin 16, you will meet your first Throne Demon. When it
appears, a gate will also come up. After you have killed the Demon, the gate
will drop as well. Go past where the gate was and follow the path around and
the fountain you come to will have the coin inside

18-After getting Coin 17, you will ride a few platform across a giant chasm,
fighting off some enemies on each platform. After riding the last one, you will
come to an area with a platform that has a fire mouth and lever on top. Kill
off any enemies that appear and pull the lever to have the mouth shoot a
fireball, revealing a crank. Turn the crank so the fire mouth turns to the
right. Pull the lever and it will reveal an alcove with some fountains inside.
The left fountain contains the coin

Anger
-----
19-Not long after entering Anger, you will come to a huge gate with a crate
sitting in front of it. Pull the crate out a little ways and place it along the
right side of the wall. Jump up to the ledge above and open the fountain for
the Piece of Silver

20-After fighting off a bunch of enemies, you will find a Health fountain and
rope that you need to use to cross. Drop down onto the platform and it will
sink slightly. Kill off the Demons that appear until the platform gets high
enough for you to jump and continue. The fountain with the coin will be sitting
on the path.

21-Once you reach the top of the tower, you will watch a scene that shows
statues coming to life and breathing fire. Once you regain control of Dante,
jump down and follow the path around the top of the tower. Once you get to the
right side, jump up to the fountain and open it for the coin.

Heresy
------
22-In one of the hallways, you will see two fountains near the beginning and a
lever in the middle. Don't open them yet, and instead go towards the lever. A
Throne Demon will appear and attempt to pull the lever. Kill the Demon and pull
the lever to get rid of the flames. Go back and open the fountains. The one on
the right has the coin.

23-After jumping across the two streams of lava, you will come to a room with a
cauldron in front of you and the giant gold statue on the right. Go to the far
end of this room and you will see a crate. To the right of the crate will be a
fountain with a Piece of Silver inside.

24-After making your way back to the beginning of Heresy, you will enter a room
with a bunch of moving platforms. Jump onto the first platform and then onto
the second. While riding up on the second, double jump to the right, and there
will be an alcove above the first platform. Open the fountain inside for the
coin.

25-After going through the room with the moving platforms, you will eventually
come to a room with orange marks and the floor with a bunch of stalactites.
Before you continue, go to the edge and there will be a bone ladder. Climb down
and the fountain will be sitting next to a Demon Dog.

Violence
--------
26-When you begin making your way towards Violence, you will have to swing
along ropes. Once you reach the second rope, swing all the way to ledge at the
far end. On this ledge you will find a Damned soul, a Demon Dog, and a fountain
with a Piece of Silver

27-As you make your way through Violence, you will come to a pair of ships with
furnaces that shoot flames across the decks. On the second one, you will have
to kill off some Arch Demons. After they have been killed off, climb down the
wall halfway along the left side. The fountain will be on the ledge at the
bottom of the wall.

28-After Coin 27, you will have to cross the lake of blood on top of metal
cages. Once you reach the other side, you will see Virgil. Before you talk to
him, go to the left and double jump to the ledge above to find the fountain

29-As you make your way through the desert area of Violence, you will see a
Damned soul on a ledge on the right. Go towards the it and jump onto the block
and then double jump up to the ledge. The fountain will be next to the Damned
soul

30-A little after finding Coin 29, you will have to kill off some enemies to
proceed. As you continue on, you will see a Damned soul off on a small island
in the blood. Near the ledge you will have to jump from to reach the soul will
be a fountain. This fountain will hold the final Piece of Silver. If you are
missing any, you will have to find all of them again in Resurrection mode

=====================
DI4B. Beatrice Stones
=====================
Scattered throughout Hell in certain fountains are Beatrice Stones. Once you
find 3 of them, you will receive the option to auto-absolve the Damned. To do
this, press Triangle (PS3) or the Y button (X360) to absolve without playing
the mini-game or receiving bonus souls. There are 6 Beatrice Stones; however,
you are only able to find 3. Once you have reached 3, the remaining fountains
that hold Beatrice Stones will now award you with Health, Mana, and about 500
souls. Some Stones are easy to reach, while others may take a while. The code
for the Stones is BS#. Replace the # with 1-6 to find them in the main
walkthrough

Limbo
-----
1-In the first room in Limbo, where you find Charon's head in the wall. Walk up
to the head and hit R1 (PS3) or the Right Bumper (X360) to push it over the
edge. Walk behind where the head and the fountain will be next to the Demon Dog

Lust
----
2-When you are crossing the bridge at the beginning of Lust, go to the end and
talk to Virgil. As you are walking back, walk along the right side of the
bridge. Between the third and fourth statues on the right will be a break in
the wall. Climb along the wall and open the fountain once you reach it.

Gluttony
--------
3-When you are in the Mirror Maze; you will have to complete the puzzle before
you have a chance to reach the fountain with the stone. After dropping out of
the door and onto the floating platform, jump to the ledge on the right as it
travels through the center of the maze. Open the fountain for the stone. The
door at the end of the ledge will also drop you out of the door that the
platform passes under.

Greed
-----
4-After obtaining Coin 13, jump back the ledge you jumped from to reach the
coin. This one may take a few tries to get to. You will want to run off the
ledge and double jump beneath the rock arch and grab onto the ledge behind the
arch. The fountain on this ledge will contain a Beatrice Stone, if you still
don't have 3, or Health, Mana, and some souls if you already have 3.

Anger
-----
5-As you are crossing the rope towards the platform that sinks when you drop on
it, go all the way to the end of the rope and drop onto the ledge. The fountain
next to the Mana fountain will have a Beatrice Stone inside if you are still
short of 3

Heresy
------
6-After finding Virgil early in Heresy, there will be a bone ladder above him
that you can reach by double jumping. On the far end of this ledge will be a
Demon Dog. The fountain next to it will hold a Beatrice Stone if you still need
to find one. If you are still missing one by this point, you will have to go
back in Resurrection mode and find one that you haven't found already.

DI4C. Relics
============
There are 31 Relics scattered throughout the Nine Circles. They can be obtained
through various means. You will earn Relics by talking with Virgil, defeating
bosses, and destroying Demon Dogs. At first, you are only allowed to have 2
Relics equipped at once, but as you level up your Holy and Unholy Levels, you
have be able to purchase another Relic slot, one from each path. Certain Relics
require that Dante have reached certain Holy or Unholy levels before they can
be equipped. When you first find a Relic, it will begin at Level 1. As you earn
Souls, the Relics equipped will gain experience towards leveling up. The
highest a Relic can be leveled is to Level 3. Some relics can't be upgraded. If
you die after finding one, but you haven't reached a checkpoint, you will have
to get the relic again. When you restart in Resurrection mode, you will keep
all the relics you have found, and nothing special will happen if you destroy
Demons Dogs that held relics you already have. If you need help finding a
relic, just search for the name of the relic. The relics are listed in the
order found in game

Name: Death Blade
Location: Shores of Acheron
Requirements: Unholy Level 1
Description: Increases the damage of all Scythe attacks and abilities Level 1:
10% increase
Level 2: 15% increase
Level 3: 20% increase
Talk with Virgil twice when you see him before reaching the Shores of Acheron.
The first Piece of Silver is an alcove to the left of him. This relic is really
useful for whenever you attack using your scythe as it will increase the damage
you inflict

Name: Charon's Oar
Location: Shores of Acheron
Requirements: Holy Level 3
Description: Absolving enemies and the Damned grants an additional Holy boost
Level 1: 10% boost
Level 2: 20% boost
Level 3: 30% boost
When you are climbing along the outside of Charon, follow the wall around to
the right and there will be a Demon Dog in an alcove. You should have Charon's
Oar equipped whenever you plan on absolving one of the Damned. When this relic
reaches Level 3, you will receive about 800 Holy Experience for each Damned
soul that you absolve

Name: Eyes of St. Lucia
Location: Limbo
Requirements: None
Description: Dante has a chance to deflect an incoming attack, negating the
damage and pushing the enemy away
Level 1: 10% chance
Level 2: 15% chance
Level 3: 20% chance
This relic is hidden early on in Limbo. After you push Charon's head over the
ledge, destroy the Demon Dog that was behind where the head was. This relic
isn't one of the more helpful relics, but it isn't one of the more useless
relics. If you plan on using it, it can be helpful against enemies that attack
in numbers

Name: Lord's Blessing
Location: Limbo
Requirements: Holy Level 1
Description: Increases the damage of all Cross attacks and abilities
Level 1: 10% increase
Level 2: 15% increase
Level 3: 20% increase
After you first fight Unbaptized Babies, follow the path until you see Virgil
next to a Demon Door. Talk to him twice to receive the relic. Just like Death
Blade powers up your scythe, Lord's Blessing makes your Cross attacks more
deadly

Name: Saladin's Mercy
Location: Limbo
Requirements: Holy Level 4
Description: A successful Absolution grants the player more Health
Level 1: 5% increase
Level 2: 10% increase
Level 3: 15% increase
When you enter the Hall of Kings in Limbo (The room with all the statues), go
up the ramp and to the left. Once you reach the end of the ledge, double jump
to the left to an alcove and pull the lever inside. The statue in the center
will lower, revealing a Demon Dog. This relic will come in handy if you are low
on health and the enemies can be absolved, like Minions, Babies, and Demons.

Name: Tail of Minos
Location: Limbo
Requirements: Unholy Level 3
Description: Punishing enemies and the Damned grants an additional Unholy boost
Level 1: 10% boost
Level 2: 20% boost
Level 3: 30% boost
To get this relic, you must defeat King Minos. This relic is essentially an
Unholy Version of Charon's Oar. Once you level this relic up to Level 3, you
will receive about 800 Unholy Experience whenever you punish the Damned.

Name: Francesca's Book
Location: Limbo
Requirements: Unholy Level 3
Description: Every 50 kills from the scythe, Dante will gain additional Unholy
experience
Level 1: 100 Unholy Experience
Level 2: 150 Unholy Experience
Level 3: 250 Unholy Experience
After defeating King Minos, you will begin to descend into Lust. When you reach
the second rope (The one that has Coin 06 on a ledge at the top), climb about
halfway up and swing towards the bone ladders on the right. When you get double
jump and get close, R1 (PS3) or RB (X360) will appear. Hit it to grab the
ladders with the scythe and climb up. The Dog will be on the ledge. This relic
is one of the most useful relics to have in trying to reach Unholy Level 7.
When this relic reaches Level 3, every 50 kills will give you more Unholy
Experience than punishing a Throne Demon or a Glutton

Name: Filippo's Rage
Location: Lust
Requirements: Unholy Level 5
Description: Dante can block previously unblockable Demon attacks. Higher
levels unlock auto-countering the attacks and increases the damage returned.
Level 1: Dante can block previously unblockable Demon attacks
Level 2: Auto-counter unblockable Demon attacks
Level 3: Increases damage returned
When you get on the lightning bridge at the beginning of Lust, make your way to
the third statue on the left (The pair where the lightning balls form). In
front of the statue will be a climbable wall. Climb along and destroy the Demon
Dog when you reach the end. This relic's usefulness depends on the situation.
The unblockable Demon attacks can be easily avoided because it takes the Demons
a few seconds to use the attacks, making them easy to dodge. If you are having
trouble avoiding them, then this relic can come in handy when the fight in
pairs or packs.

Name: Tristan's Desire
Location: Lust
Requirements: None
Description: Increases the damage of all Magic attacks
Level 1: 10% increase
Level 2: 15% increase
Level 3: 20% increase
After entering the tower in Lust and defeating the Temptresses when they first
appear, go to the right side of the room and turn the crank to raise the
snake's head. Destroy the fangs and turn the crank again. Talk to Virgil twice
when you see him on the ledge. If you rely on Magic attacks (You will only have
Righteous Path when you first find it) to fight most of the enemies, you will
want to level this relic up because the damage increase can really put a dent
in the enemies health.

Name: Arrow of Paris
Location: Lust
Requirements: Unholy Level 1
Description: Grab attack damage is increased
Level 1: 25% increase
Level 2: 50% increase
Level 3: 100% increase
When are near the top of the tower, you will have to scale a climbable wall and
you will eventually come to a ledge with a Beatrice Statue. From the Statue, go
to the right and you will find a Damned Soul. After judging it, drop down the
ledge in front of it and you will land on another ledge with a Demon Dog. This
relic will come in handy against enemies that can't be grabbed by the scythe.
As you level it up, the grab attack will eventually double the amount of damage
done

Name: Antony's Standard
Location: Lust
Requirements: None
Description: Increases the rate at which Dante stores Redemption energy
Level 1: 10% increase
Level 2: 20% increase
Level 3: 30% increase
To get this relic, you must defeat Marc Antony. As you level up this relic, the
Redemption bar refills quicker. If you use Redemption regularly, this relic is
a must-use.

Name: Rain of Gluttony
Location: Lust
Requirements: Holy Level 3
Description: Absolutions stun surrounding enemies
Level 1: 5 seconds
Level 2: 10 seconds
Level 3: 15 seconds
As you descend towards Gluttony, you will be able to see Cerberus as you make
your way across the final horizontal rope. Before you continue to the left, go
to the right and you will find the Demon Dog on a ledge at the end of the rope.
This relic is very useful when you are fighting off many small enemies, like
Babies and Minions. As you level this relic up, the time that enemies remain
stunned for can help you look around and see what else you have to kill to
proceed. Other than that, this relic will probably remain unequipped at most
times

Name: Azrael's Apprentice
Location: Gluttony
Requirements: Unholy Level 1
Description: Any successful block on an enemy has a chance to stun them
Level 1: 10% chance
Level 2: 15% chance
Level 3: 25% chance
You will receive this relic after defeating Cerberus. This relic isn't very
helpful, unless you are having trouble keeping the enemies from wailing on you.
Most of the attacks that regular enemies will use against you can be easily
avoided, unless you are fighting Temptresses or Seductresses. If you can manage
to stun them, it will give you a small window to start hammering away at them.

Name: Ciacco's Bile
Location: Gluttony
Requirements: Holy Level 5
Description: Grants Dante persistent Mana regeneration. Leveling up this relic
will increase the speed of Mana regeneration
Right before you pass through the arch to enter the Mirror Maze, you will see
Virgil. Talk to him twice to receive the relic. This relic is one of the more
useful relics. If you use Magic regularly, especially Divine Armor, you will
want to have this relic equipped. As you level up this relic, your Mana will
refill quicker than it normally would

Name: Octavian's Gold
Location: Gluttony
Requirements: Holy Level 3
Description: Grants the ability to perform an automatic special recovery attack
when Dante is knocked down
Level 1: Relic is in use
While descending into Greed, on the ledge above the bone ladder on the left of
the two vines that are next to each other. The Demon Dog is located next to
Silver Coin 12. This relic isn't really useful. The range of the special
recovery move isn't very far and unless there is an enemy in your face when you
fall, you probably won't hit anything

Name: Crown of Carthage
Location: Greed
Requirements: Holy Level 5
Description: Dante is protected from ranged enemy attack damage
Level 1: 10% protection
Level 2: 15% protection
Level 3: 20% protection
When you first enter Greed, you will come to a ledge and you will also hear a
Demon Dog growling somewhere. Drop off the ledge and grab onto it. Shimmy
across to the right and you will enter a small area and you will see the Demon
Dog on the ground. Outside of Boss battles, there are very few enemies that
even use ranged attacks (Pests, Fiends, Demons). If you see the attack coming,
you can just block it and you won't take much damage at all anyways

Name: Demon's Wing
Location: Greed
Requirements: Unholy Level 5
Description: Dante's aerial attack damage is increased
Level 1: 10% increase
Level 2: 15% increase
Level 3: 20% increase
In the room where you first meet the Hoarder-Waster, you will have to kill the
enemies and make the platforms move. Hop onto the center platform and then onto
the platform on the right. As you are going up, you will see the Demon Dog in
an alcove. This relic will inflict extra damage to enemies anytime Dante is in
the air. This can be really handy if you like to bounce enemies into the air to
inflict damage

Name: Wasted Gold
Location: Greed
Requirements: None
Description: Every successful attack increase the Redemption refill rate
Level 1: 10% increase
Level 2: 20% increase
Level 3: 30% increase
In the room with the spinning, spiked contraption, make your way to the door
the Beast Tamer hid behind and pull the lever that you see. This will stop the
contraption and will open the cage in the middle, allowing you to reach the
Demon Dog. If you use Redemption regularly, you will want to use this relic
anytime that you have Antony's Standard equipped, the combination of these two
will refill Redemption very quick.

Name: Coin of Plutus
Location: Greed
Requirements: None
Description: Increases the combo window that allows Dante to acquire style
points and increment the Hit Counter
Level 1: 1 second
Level 2: 2 seconds
Level 3: 3 seconds
After using the Asterian Beast to cross the room with the saw blades for a
second time, you will see Virgil in front of some prison cells. At the end of
the room is a climbable wall. The Demon Dog is in the cell on the right, closer
to where Virgil was. This relic is one that will want to level up to Level 3.
When you reach the Malebolge challenges in Fraud (Especially the first and
fourth), you will want to havethis relic at Level 3 to help achieve "Poetry in
Motion".

Name: Eye of Alighiero
Location: Greed
Requirements: Holy Level 3
Description: Dante is able to absorb a certain amount of damage when attacked.
Leveling up this relic increase the damage Dante can absorb.
To get this relic, you must defeat Alighiero at the end of Greed. Depending on
the difficulty you are playing on, the damage increase will seem minuscule. It
will only absorb damage about once every minute

Name: Hoarder's Purse
Location: Greed
Requirements: Unholy Level 3
Description: Increases the time window to execute a counterattack
Level 1: 30% increase
Level 2: 60% increase
Level 3: 90% increase
After defeating Alighiero, you will see a Health fountain near a Beatrice
Statue. Jump up to the ledge above the Health fountain and the Demon Dog will
be at the far end of the ledge. The more you level up this relic, the easier it
can be to get the "Countermeasures" Reward.

Name: Medusa's Call
Location: Anger
Requirements: Holy Level 5
Description: Dante's ranged attack and projectile damage is increased
Level 1: 10% increase
Level 2: 15% increase
Level 3: 20% increase
After finding Coin 19 and pushing the crate down onto the platform, follow the
new path until you see Virgil. Talk to him until he disappears and he will give
you the relic. If you are working on the Holy Path, this is one relic you will
want to level up to Level 3. By the time you reach the Malebolge in Fraud, the
damage increase will help you clear the challenges faster thanks to the
additional damage dealt.

Name: Guiding Flame
Location: Anger
Requirements: Holy Level 5
Description: Dante is immune to excrement attacks such as the Glutton's ranged
attack
Level 1: Relic is in use
When you reach the top of the tower in Anger, the Demon Dog is on the platform
above Coin 21. This is one of the more useless relics. Since it only has one
level, leveling this relic doesn't matter. Since you only fight a handful of
Gluttons during the game anyways, this relic should probably not be used at
all.

Name: Rage of Farinata
Location: Heresy
Requirements: None
Description: All fountains are immediately broken upon use
Level 1: Relic is in use
When you first enter Heresy, talk to Virgil twice and you will receive this
relic. Just like Guiding Flame, this relic is more or less useless. It probably
shouldn't be equipped normally, so you can use more useful relics. In the time
it would take to equip this relic and begin to open the fountain, you probably
could have opened it the regular way anyways.

Name: Calvacanti's Blade
Location: Heresy
Requirements: None
Description: Turns Dante's evade into an attack, knocking enemies back and
dealing a small amount of damage
Level 1: Relic is in use
After the exiting the hallway of fire that where you found Coin 22, you will
see Virgil. There will be a bone ladder above him, along the wall. The Demon
Dog will be on the ledge at the top. If this relic could be leveled up and
damage dealt increased, this relic might be a little more useful, but as it
stands, the damage dealt may not even be noticeable on higher difficulties
anyways.

Name: Seal of Epicurus
Location: Heresy
Requirements: Unholy Level 1
Description: There is a higher chance to perform a critical strike on any
attack. Damage from the attack increases by 15% and enemies are knocked down
when a critical strike is landed.
Level 1: 10% increase
Level 2: 15% increase
Level 3: 20% increase
In the room with the moving platforms, there is an alcove above the first
platform. The Dog is next to the fountain containing Coin 24. If you mainly use
your scythe to fight enemies, this relic can help to increase the damage you
inflict on the enemies. If you plan on equipping this relic for a fight, you
will probably also want to have Death Blade equipped to inflict even more
damage.

Name: Frederick's Ring
Location: Heresy
Requirements: Holy Level 5
Description: When Dante is low on Health, there is a chance to execute Divine
Intervention, which both stuns enemies and heals Dante
Level 1: 10% chance
Level 2: 20% chance
Level 3: 30% chance
Right before the end, before you enter the room with all the stalactites, there
will be a bone ladder at the back end of the ledge. Drop down the ladder and
the Dog will be next to Coin 25. This relic isn't very useful by the time you
are able to equip it. At Holy Level 5, you are able to purchase Divine Armor
Level 3, and if you have already purchased Divine Armor and Divine Armor Level
2, either of those will replenish more health than this relic, if it activates

Name: Shoe of Nessus
Location: Violence
Requirements: Unholy Level 5
Description: All of Dante's light Scythe attacks can no longer be evaded by
enemies
Level 1: Relic is in use
While scaling the ropes when you first enter Violence, drop down to the second
rope and shimmy all the way across to a ledge at the far end of the canyon. The
Demon Dog is on the ledge with Coin 26 and the soul of Atilla. This relic is
very helpful, especially when fighting against Seductresses and Temptresses.
Using this relic, enemies can still block light attacks, if they can, but if
they can't or don't, they will take damage

Name: Attila's Armor
Location: Violence
Requirements: None
Description: Dante's attacks will not be interrupted if an enemy blocks them
Level 1: Relic is in use
When you reach the second ship with the furnace shooting flames across the
deck, scale the climbable wall along the left side, and you will go inside the
ship. The Demon Dog will be on a ledge at the end of the wall. Using this relic
along side of Shoe of Nessus can make light Scythe attacks unblockable, leaving
enemies defenseless against them. Having Francesca's Book equipped at the same
time can also add Unholy Experience quickly

Name: Memory of Acre
Location: Violence
Requirements: Holy Level 5
Description: Dante can no longer be interrupted while executing Cross attacks.
Level 1: Relic is in use
After your first encounter with the Damned Crusaders, after finding the last of
the coins, there will be a ledge on the right and another to the left of it.
Jump up to the ledge on the right and then to the one on the left. The Dog will
be on the left ledge. If you are going to use this relic, you should also equip
Lord's Blessing to do more damage. If an enemy gets up close to you, start
using a Cross attack to knock them away and deal a little extra damage

Name: Francesco's Forgiveness
Location: Violence
Requirements: None
Description: Dante is protected from all enemy damage
Level 1: 5% damage protection
Level 2: 10% damage protection
Level 3: 15% damage protection
You will receive this relic after you defeat Francesco. After obtaining this
relic, you will want to equip it and leave it equipped. Once you reach Level 3,
this relic will be very useful, especially if you are playing on Hellish or
Infernal

Name: Stone of Wrath
Location: Dark Forest
Requirements: None
Description: Reduces the cost of all magic spells
Level 1: 10% less Mana
Level 2: 15% less Mana
Level 3: 20% less Mana
When you play the Dark Forest prequel level, you will automatically have this
relic to begin. If you want to level up this relic, you will have to do it in
the normal game because you don't gain any souls in the Dark Forest. If you use
magic regularly, you will want to use this relic alongside Ciacco's Bile. You
may not notice the lowered cost of most spells, but it will be rather
significant for Divine Armor Level 3. Plus with the cost lowered, Ciacco's Bile
can refill the Mana bar quicker

=============
DI5. Upgrades
=============
As you play through, you will receive souls for killing enemies, opening
fountains, and defeating the bosses. You will need souls to purchase upgrades
to increase Dante's abilities. Upgrades are spilt into Holy Upgrades and Unholy
Upgrades. Holy Upgrades focus mainly on Cross attacks and Unholy Upgrades focus
on scythe attacks. Once you reach certain Experience plateaus, you Holy and
Unholy levels will increase. The Experience you will need to obtain to level up
is the same for each path, so you won't have to earn more Experience in one
path than the other to reach the same level. The Experience amounts listed to
level up paths are NOT totals. Each time you level up a path, the soul counter
to reach the next level is reset to 0, but you will keep any souls over the
amount needed to reach the level you reached. You will need to level up Holy
and Unholy levels to equip certain relics. To earn Experience, you will need to
punish or absolve enemies and Damned souls. Some of the enemies that can be
absolved or punished include most Minion variations, Unbaptized Babies, Demons,
and Gluttons. To judge them, you will have to weaken them enough and R2 or the
Right trigger will appear above them. Then follow the on-screen commands to
finish the judgment. For Minions and Babies, you can grab them and then you
will be asked how you want to judge them. Absolving or punishing the Damned
souls will yield about twice as much Experience as killing the normal enemies.
Abilities for both paths will be listed by level, from the left side to the
right. Any upgrades that are connected vertically means you have to purchase
the lower abilities before you can purchase the higher abilities. Any upgrades
connected horizontally means you still need to purchase the ability on the left
first. The table below shows how the abilities progress. The numbers are in no
specific order except that any ability listed as U1/H1 pertains to the ability
on the left side

        Unholy Upgrades | Holy Upgrades

DI6. Dante's Journal
====================
As you progress through the Circles of Hell, Dante will keep track of many
things using his Journal. Using Dante's Journal will give you a little history
behind the creatures and the Damned. After absolving or punishing the Damned,
Dante will record the text that was in the little box below the name of the
Damned before you choose your judgment. You can also learn about the creatures
you face in Hell. After killing a creature, information on it will be added to
the Journal. You will also add commentaries from Virgil every now and again
after talking to him. The Damned, Bestiary, and Virgil commentaries are kept in
order, and if you miss one, the space will be Locked until you find it. It is
impossible to miss an entry in the Bestiary. When you start a new game in
Resurrection Mode, all entries for the Damned and Virgil Commentaries will be
reset, so you will have to find them again

================
DI6A. The Damned
================
The Damned are 27 souls who played an important part in the history of the
world. When you come across one in Hell, they will appear as kneeling body that
has a glowing light around them. When you interact with them by pressing R1,
you can choose to either absolve them or punish them. If you choose to punish
them, all you have to do is hit Square and Dante will take care of the rest. If
you choose to absolve them, you will play a mini-game using the face buttons.
You will have 40 seconds to collect as many sins as you can. To collect a sin,
hit the correct face button when the sin passes over it. If you hit the button
of to late, you will lose a sin. After time is up, you will gain 30 souls for
every sin you collected. Regardless of whether you punish or absolve them, you
will earn about 600 Experience points for whichever judgment you chose. After
you collect 3 Beatrice Stones, you can auto-absolve the Damned. If you
auto-absolve, you will not have to play the mini-game, but you will not gain
any bonus souls. To find the Damned in the guide, just search for their name

As you make your way towards Treachery, you will reach an icy ledge with a
giant behind it. You will have to fight off some Fiends and Arch Demons before
you are allowed to continue. After swinging away after the enemies have been
defeated, you will eventually have to break an object in your path, and once
you reach the bone ladder on the other side, climb to the top to find the soul

27. Count Ugolino
Location: Treachery
Count Ugolino was an Italian nobleman and politician whose life was sewn
together only by the fibers of treachery. Always pitting one man against
another as blood spilled, he thought of no other than himself.

After crossing the gigantic ice bridge, there will be a Beatrice Statue on the
left at the end of the bridge. The Count's soul will be near the Statue. If you
found all other souls up to this point, you will receive "The Damned" Reward
when you judge the Count

DI6B. Bestiary
==============
Information on every creature that you fight will be kept in the Journal, but
it will only be added after killing at least one of them (or killing them in
the case of one-fight enemies). Some enemies can be absolved or punished, but
some can't. If it says "Yes" for judgment, they can be judged and the amount of
base experience will be in parenthesis. Almost all of the small enemies can and
to do this, you need to grab them with your scythe. You will then be able to
select your judgment. If you choose to punish, hit square and Dante will
destroy them. To absolve, you will have to rapidly hit the O button until they
are destroyed. For the bigger enemies, you will have to follow the on-screen
prompts, as they will change from enemy to enemy and some even have more then
one absolve animation.

1. Death
First Encounter: Acre (Only encounter)
Judgment: No
All are destined to face the ominous specter of Death. When the time arrives,
the harvester of souls severs the tie that binds body and spirit, and ushers
the newly departed into the next realm.

Death will appear to fight you in Acre after you have been killed. He has three
main attacks. His first is close attack where he will quickly slash at you.
This can easily be blocked. His second is a ranged attack where he will swing
his scythe around in a circle, releasing a shockwave in all direction. You can
jump to avoid this. His final attack he will not get until late in the fight.
It is another close attack where he will use the scythe to quickly stab at you
a few times. This attack can also be blocked

2. Undead Minion
First Encounter: Florence
Judgment: Yes (+10 Experience)
Once living humans, these wretched souls now reside in the depths of Hell. A
great power has commanded them to leave the abyss for the Earth's surface.

You will first encounter these enemies in the graveyard after returning home to
Florence. These enemies are pretty frail and a few hits will kill them. You can
also pass judgment on these creatures by grabbing them with the scythe. Passing
judgment will add 10 Experience points to whichever path you judged.

3. Pest
First Encounter: Florence
Judgment: No
Swarms of these foul beasts can be found throughout the nine circles, wreaking
havoc and destruction. In greater numbers, they are even capable of blotting
out the sky.

Like the entry says, these creatures are everywhere. They are weak and a few
hits should kill them. Their only attack is a ranged attack where they will
hurl a tiny fireball at you. After buying the Retribution Upgrade, you can
deflect their attack back at them, which will kill them

4. Fire Minion
First Encounter: Florence
Judgment: No
These fiends are forged from the sweltering fire of the middle circles. Only
the light of the cross can snuff out their infernal armor.

You will first come across these enemies in the basement of the church in
Florence, when burning columns black your path. To kill these Minions, you must
first hit them with a Holy Cross attack. Once you do this, they will harden
temporarily, allowing you to hit them with your scythe. It will only take one
hit to kill them after hitting them with the Holy Cross attack. If you fight
any of these creatures while there is a Heretic in the fight, you can put out
their flames by using a Holy Spell as well.

5. Asterian Beast
First Encounter: Gates of Hell
Judgment: Unable to be killed
Tamed long ago by the Fallen, these mindless creatures serve as beasts of
burden. Steered by their masters, they labor away, ensuring everlasting pain
and suffering throughout the Inferno

You will first encounter this creature after meeting Virgil for the first time.
These gigantic creatures are controlled by Beast Tamers and cannot be killed.
These Beasts have two main attacks. One is stomp attack and for the other, it
will slam the ground. Due to the Beasts size, the range for these attacks is
pretty much right in front of the creature. Once you do enough damage, an R2
icon will appear. Hit Square, Triangle, and then O when they appear on screen
and you will kill the Tamer and take control of the Beast. Once you take
control of a Beast, you will usually have to use it for tasks that Dante
wouldn't be able to do. Moving and attacking with the beast is pretty much the
same as the controls for Dante. To attack with the Beast, press Square to slam
the ground and press Triangle to stomp. You also can press the O button and the
Beast will breathe fire (The Beast will never use this attack when controlled
by a Beast Tamer). You can also grab enemies by pressing R2.

6. Hell Minion
First Encounter: Shores of Acheron
Judgment: Yes (+10 Experience)
Within Hell these soldiers pursue fight with the relentlessness of a starving
bound. They are governed by the Ruling Class of Hell

These Minions are relatively weak. You can grab them with the scythe and
absolve them or punish them for 10 experience points. These Minions will be a
common enemy from the Shores of Acheron until you reach Gluttony.

7. Guardian Demon
First Encounter: Shores of Acheron
Judgment: Yes (+100 Experience)
The third choir of fallen angels, these elite soldiers of Hell's Arm oversee
the punishment of the damned.

The creatures are stronger than most of the other creatures you meet early in
the game, but not as strong as the bosses. Unlike most other creatures, they
will use their sword to block your scythe attacks. They have two main attacks.
The first one they just try and attack you. For their second attack, there
sword will begin to glow orange and they will slash at you. You will not be
able to block this attack without having the Filippo's Rage relic (Which you
will not find until the beginning of Lust). Once these Demons have lost enough
health, and R2 icon will appear above them and you can judge them. You will
earn 100 Experience points for your judgment.

8. Charon
First Encounter: Shores of Acheron (Only encounter)
Judgment: No
Those souls condemned to suffer the eternal fire must take passage aboard the
ancient boatman's vessel. He ferries them across the River Acheron where the
will be judged for their grievous sins.

Charon really isn't much of a boss; he is more like an important enemy. You
don't really fight Charon, but you will have to fight off other creatures
before he is defeated. After killing off a bunch of creatures previously
listed, he will turn his head and an Asterian Beast with a Beast Tamer will
appear. Once you take control of the Beast and kill any enemies that spawn, a
glowing orb will appear on his neck. Walk over to it, press R1 and quickly hit
circle to rip his head off. The boat will then crash and you will have to
escape using the Beast. His head appears later on in Limbo where you can earn a
Trophy

9. Exploding Minion
First Encounter: Limbo
Judgment: No
Their frail bodies are unable to contain the intolerable rage that burns inside
them. Their anger burns so hot, it lights to fire, culminating in a sudden
burst of fury.

These creatures are incredibly weak. If you grab them with the scythe, you will
automatically throw them and they will explode on contact, hence the name.
Other than that, there isn't much else that these Minions do

10. Unbaptized Child
First Encounter: Limbo
Judgment: Yes (+10 Experience)
Unbaptized children who were not shown the portal of faith before they died.
Without the ability to understand their fate they lash out violently against
anyone they cross.

These creatures are pretty much exactly like the Hell Minions. Grab them with
your scythe to judge them. If you just want to hack and slash at them, it
shouldn't take too long to kill them.

11. King Minos
First Encounter: Limbo (Only encounter)
Judgment: No
The tyrannical judge of the underworld site before the entrance to the second
circle, assessing the sins of the damned before sentencing them to their
eternal place in Hell.

When you first encounter King Minos, you find out that he is more or less blind
and smells those that he judges, including you. He has a couple of attacks. The
first one, he will use his tentacles to try and hit you by making them come up
from the ground. Just run around in circles and he most likely won't hit you.
Whenever he leans back, he will reveal grapple points on either side of the
arena. Grapple with your scythe as he will roar and try to blow you over. You
will then be able to attack his face. Be careful because he will use his tongue
to try and hit you. If he succeeds, you will be separated from your scythe and
will have to avoid a sharp tentacle to grab your scythe. He will also slam his
fist and sweep his arm across the arena, but if you stand underneath the
tentacles that hide the grapple points, you won't get hit by the slams or
sweeps. When you kill him, you will grab his tongue, pull him over to the wheel
that sends the souls to wherever he has sent them, and then you will activate
the wheel and keep trying to make it move until it slices his face in half.

12. Temptress of Lust
First Encounter: Lust
Judgment: No
The feverish winds of the second circle have maddened and disfigured these
creatures. Their lasciviousness has become an insatiable desire; one only
pacified by feasting on the blood of fornicators.

These creatures are really creepy. Their first attack is a close attack where
they slash at you a few times. The second attack is a ranged attack and is what
makes them creepy. They will grow a scorpion-like tail from their lower body
and attack you with it. Also, these creatures are incredibly fast. They will
try and evade most of your attacks. You will not be able to grab them with the
scythe; they will just jump out of the way and probably counterattack. When you
face these creatures in the Dark Forest, they will look like something out of
Assassin's Creed. They will not use their main ranged attack with the tentacle,
but they will use the stun attack that the Seductresses know.

13. Cleopatra
First Encounter: Lust (Only encounter)
Judgment: No
The only thing more compelling than her beauty was her lust for power. The
Queen of the Nile is granted reign over the second circle, tormenting those who
were unable to overcome their lewd desires.

You will have to deal with Cleopatra a couple times while you are making your
way through Lust. First, as you are traveling up the tower, she will break
through and you will have to fight her to get her to move farther up. She will
create 3 Unbaptized Babies at a time from one of her breasts, so this will help
you to get the "Bad Nanny" Trophy if you haven't gotten it by this point. You
will have to play with the levers until you burn her breasts. The next time you
will meet up with her is during your fight with Marc Antony. She will intervene
and heal Antony at random points during the battle. After you kill, Antony, she
will shrink and try to kill you for killing Antony. You will have to follow the
on-screen prompts to kill her.

14. Marc Antony
First Encounter: Lust (Only encounter)
Judgment: No
The mighty Roman general who watches over the realm of his final lover. His
reputation as a formidable military leader is only overshadowed by the stories
of his vile and lecherous conduct.

For being early in the game when you face Antony, he is probably the toughest
challenge you will have for a while. He has a plethora of attacks; some are
close, and some are ranged. Whenever Antony has his shield up, the damage he
takes from your Holy Cross attacks and some scythe attacks will be greatly
reduced. A couple times during your fight, Cleopatra will heal Antony. To stop
her, just attack her hand until she falls down the tower.

15. Cerberus
First Encounter: Gluttony (Only encounter)
Judgment: No
This three-headed monster stands before the third circle, rending and flaying
the sinners condemned to its post. No soul may pass without confronting the
beast.

Cerberus only has two attacks. The first one is a ranged attack where any head,
sometimes more than one at a time, will shoot vomit balls in your general
direction. Just jump out of the way to avoid them. It will only use its second
attack when you try to open the fire fountains and one of the side heads will
lunge at you. As long as there is one side head, the center head will never
lunge. Once both side heads have been sliced off, the center head will begin
shooting vomit faster and will lunge at you if you try and open one of the
vents. Once the center head has been burned twice and R2 appears above it, go
over to it and press R2. The head will attempt to eat you, but you only have to
move the left analog stick in the four main directions when prompted to destroy
it.

16. Gorger Worm
First Encounter: Gluttony
Judgment: No
This horrid creature has burrowed beneath the surface. Patiently, it waits for
unsuspecting souls to wander by before snatching them up it its massive,
crushing jaws.

The Gorger Worms will usually hide underground. When you pass over where one is
hiding, it will instantly snatch you up and attempt to eat you. Press O quickly
to escape. You will be able to see where they are hiding because dirt will come
up out of the ground around where they are hiding. To make them come up without
passing over them, get close enough to the spot so that you can hold Triangle
to slam your scythe into the ground, forcing them out.

17. Gluttony Minion
First Encounter: Gluttony
Judgment: Yes (+10 Experience)
Full of muck and filth, these bloated miscreants leave a mess of nauseating
waste in their wake

Compared to the other Minions, Gluttony Minions have sort of a special ability.
If you kill them using scythe attacks, there is a chance that they will
explode. You can still grab them and pass judgment or Holy Cross to keep them
from exploding

18. Glutton
First Encounter: Gluttony
Judgment: Yes (+200 Experience)
Driven by a voracious and indiscriminate appetite, this lumbering giant wanders
the circles of Hell devouring everything in its path. Nothing satisfies its
unyielding hunger.

You will first encounter this creature in the mirror maze after watching how
Beatrice and you father were killed. Due to this it's massive size, your Holy
Cross attacks won't do much damage to this creature. One attack they use is a
ranged attack where they pretty much throw up. For being a ranged attack, it
doesn't really have much range. The only other thing they do that could be
considered an attack is when they run towards you to try and grab you and eat
you. After knocking enough health off of these big creatures, R2 should appear
above it.

19. Hoarder-Waster
First Encounter: Greed
Judgment: No
While one hoarded his wealth, the other squandered it. Both obsessed with the
material world, they must now walk eternity together, their bodies fused yet
torn asunder

Hoarder-Wasters are rather annoying enemies. I noticed that shortly after being
hit by Holy Cross attacks, they usually began spinning around. They use their
giant club to extend the range of their spin. While they are spinning, they
tend to spin aimlessly and will deal damage to anything in their path,
including other enemies. While they are spinning they are immune to most
attacks. To stop them from spinning, you can either wait for them to stop on
their own, when they stop for a few seconds and take a breather, or you can use
Righteous Path to stop them and deal a little damage

20. Greed Minion
First Encounter: Greed
Judgment: Yes (+10 Experience)
Possessed by an insufferable greed, these creatures blindly pursue anything
that glitters with a kind of ferocity unmatched by their accursed brethren

Greed Minions are the most annoying of the Minions. They are the strongest of
them all, as well. Greed Minions are also incredibly evasive. Most of the time
you are fighting them, they will jump around the arena. Before they attack,
they will raise their sword above their head and jump at Dante

21. Throne Demon
First Encounter: Greed
Judgment: Yes (+200 Experience)
The second choir of fallen angels, these are the sergeants of Hell's army.
Found deeper within Hell, they keep the order.

Throne Demons are more powerful than Guardian Demons, but use some of the same
attacks. They will swing at you a few times with their axe if you get to close.
They can also use their shield to block your attacks. When they are about to
use their ranged attack, they will lean back with one side of the axe on the
ground. They will then swing the axe and send a fireball in your general
direction. They have another attack which goes from ranged to close combat.
They will lower their head and charge at you. When they get close, they will
swing their axe, and it will do a little extra damage if the attack connects

22. Seductress of Lust
First Encounter: Greed
Judgment: No
Despite their pale and putrid visage, these wanton wretches are capable of
rousing the most carnal of passions in their victims. Only the truly chaste are
able to resist their allure

Seductresses of Lust are basically stronger version of Temptresses. They are
very evasive and use the same attacks. They have a second ranged attack. They
will release a purple orb of energy in Dante's general direction. If it hits,
Dante will become dazed and begin to slowly walk towards the Seductress. To
break free, you will have to hit the O (PS3) or B (X360) button. Dante will
also snap back to reality if he is attacked by another enemy. If you have the
Shoe of Nessus relic, you will want to equip it whenever these enemies are
present

23. Beast Tamer
First Encounter: Florence
Judgment: No
These demons rule over the beasts of Hell, taming them to their bidding and
inflicting torture among Hell's residents.

Up until Greed, you will only encounter Beast Tamer's while they are in control
of an Asterian Beast. However, from Greed on, if you are riding on a Beast, a
Beast Tamer can appear and try to take control of the Beast from Dante. When
they try, hit the O (PS3) or B (X360) button to throw them off and keep control
of the Beast. When you throw them off, it will always be directly in front of
the Beast, so to kill them, just breathe fire. Like their info suggests, they
are Demons and count toward the "Demon Slayer" Reward.

24. Alighiero
First Encounter: Greed (Only encounter)
Judgment: No
Wholly unconcerned with the suffering of those around him, Dante's father led a
life of excess and greed. He spent his life hoarding his wealth, cheating those
less fortunate, and abusing his family

Dear old dad has a few attacks at his disposal, gaining a new one each time the
arena gets smaller. He will swing his cross at you and use Sins of the Father
when the fight first begins. After the arena loses it outer ring the first
time, he will now slam his cross into the ground. The cross in the ground will
emit a short-wave energy ring. When he uses Sins of the Father, he will send
out two crosses. When the arena loses its outer ring the second time, he will
gain a very powerful attack and Sins of the Father will attack with 3 crosses.
He will raise his cross above his head and then an explosion will occur. If you
close enough to him, it will take out a huge chunk of health.

25. Fire Guardian
First Encounter: Anger
Judgment: No
Springing suddenly from the darkness, these wily beings lash out with fire and
flame before returning to their shadowy forms.

Fire Guardians are stronger than the Fire Minions. When they move around the
arena, they appear as a cloud or dark smoke. While they are in this form, they
can't attack or be harmed. To defeat them, you need to wait until they turn
into their fire form. Then use any Holy Cross attack or Holy Spell to put out
their flames. Once their flames are out, quickly attack them before they
reignite, because it won't take long for that to happen

26. Phlegyas
First Encounter: Anger (Only encounter)
Judgment: No
In a fit of unholy rage, the mighty Phlegyas set fire to the Temple of Delphi.
For his insolence against the divine, the King of the Lapiths is forever
condemned to ferry souls across the River Styx

When you fight Phlegyas, you won't actually fight him, you only have to avoid
his attacks. As you fight off the enemies that appear, he will slam the ground
and breathe fire across the arena, but he won't use the fire attack until you
reach the last area. After you watch Beatrice's transformation, you will use
Phlegyas to enter the City of Dis. While riding Phlegyas, the attacks he can
use follow the same button set-up as the Asterian Beasts. When you use his fire
attack, you can hold down the O button (PS3) or B button (X360) and use the
left analog stick to aim the fire

27. Heretic
First Encounter: Heresy
Judgment: No
In life they were the worst of heretics, pagans who sometimes practiced the
dark arts. Within Hell they have been utilized by the Ruling Class as guardians
and protectors of Hell

Whenever you encounter a Heretic, all enemies in the fight with it will have a
purple orb above them. As long as the Heretic remains in the fight, all enemies
are protected from Holy Cross attacks. Heretics will warp from point to point
in the arena, making them harder to fight. They will use lightning as their
main attack against Dante. They will also launch a projectile attack, as well.
When they get knocked down, they will throw their staff to knock Dante away
while they get up.

28. Fiend
First Encounter: Heresy
Judgment: No
These pests were twisted by Hell's minions into flying instruments of capture.
They patrol the rings of the underworld, trapping wayward shades attempting to
flee their eternal abode.

Fiends are just like Pests, except their attacks can't be blocked. Instead of
using fire, Fiends use ice as their attack. Their attack can freeze Dante for a
short period. You can get out by rapidly hitting the O button (PS3) or B button
(X360)

29. Pagan
First Encounter: Heresy
Judgment: No
These priests once practiced the forbidden dark arts. They have been granted
the powers they desperately sought in life and are forced into Hell's service,
acting as keepers of the flaming tombs

The Pagan's fighting style is similar to that of the Heretic. However, Pagans
aren't able to protect all enemies from Holy Cross attacks. They will still use
projectile attacks and use their staff to knock Dante away when they are down.
They will teleport around the arena, making them harder to take down

30. Arch Demon
First Encounter: Violence
Judgment: Yes (+200 Experience)
The first, and highest ranking, choir of fallen angels. Arch Demons are the
lieutenants of Hell's army and are among to original fallen

Arch Demons are the most powerful of the Demons. Unlike the other Demons, Arch
Demons have the ability to fly, and they will use their wings as a shield. They
use two swords to attack Dante. While they fly, they can throw their swords,
slam straight into the ground, and they can also freeze Dante. You can break
out the same way you would from the Fiend's attack. Once you they reach about
50% health, R2 will appear over them and Dante will cut off their wings. The
next time R2 appears over them, you can judge them

31. Damned Crusader
First Encounter: Violence
Judgment: No
Promised salvation for their sacrifice, these warriors followed Dante only to
be led astray. They rise again, seeking vengeance against the soul responsible
for their damnation

These enemies are very defensive. They will usually raise their shields
whenever Dante attacks them. If you hammer away at them enough, you can break
their shields, pretty much eliminating any defense they may have had. You can
also use Divine Force or Divine Tempest to launch them into the air, where they
are open to any attack

32. Francesco
First Encounter: Violence (Only encounter)
Judgment: No
The brother of Beatrice left Florence with noble intent, only to be misled by
his closest ally. Although Dante promised to protect his friend, he stood
silent as Francesco was condemned to death

As long as Francesco has his shield, he won't take much damage. He doesn't have
very many attacks at his disposal. His main attack will be a few close range
slashes. To break his shield, you will have to wait until Francesco grabs a
sword out of his back and throws it at you. As long as you aren't close to the
edge, the sword will get stuck in the ground, unless it hits you and breaks.
His thrown sword is unblockable, so you will have to dodge the sword when he
throws it. Interact with the sword to throw it back at him and after a few
returned swords, his shield will break, allowing him to be hit for real damage.
When he regenerates his shield, he will summon some Damned Captains to help him

33. Damned Captain
First Encounter: Violence
Judgment: No
For the boldest and closest of his allies, Dante's betrayal stung the deepest.
Forever doomed to walk the Abominable Sands, these warriors are now the most
fervent in his pursuit

Damned Captains aren't much different from the Damned Crusaders. The main
noticeable difference between the two is that the Captains shield is engulfed
in flames. When their shields are on fire, scythe attacks will have no effect
on them.

34. Malacoda
First Encounter: Fraud
Judgment: Yes (+200 Experience)
The fiery and elusive master of the Malebolge, guardians of the eighth circle.
These demonic wardens allow no soul entry or escape lest it be ordained by on
high

Physically, Malacoda look like Throne Demons on fire. Usually, there will never
be more than one of these creatures in a fight at a time. Unlike the other fire
creatures, these creatures can be attacked with the scythe. You can still
hammer away at them using Holy Cross attacks. When they are weak enough, you
will be able to judge them.

35. Lucifer
First Encounter: Treachery (Only encounter)
Judgment: No
Cast down for his rebellion against God, the Lord of the Inferno lies
imprisoned within a frozen pool of malice and sorrow. It is here he conspires
to overthrow Paradise and reclaim his former glory.

When the fight begins, Lucifer will be gigantic. While he is in this form, you
have to wait until a light shines in the center of the arena before you can
damage him. When you are able to hurt him in this form, Holy Cross attacks are
the most effective. When he changes form and becomes smaller, scythe attacks
work better here. Don't use Holy Cross attacks because he can and will block
them and return the attack to you. When this happens, it will look like an
explosion took place. After he gets weak enough, the circles at the end of each
star point will rise up. Use the scythe to swing from platform and then grab
onto Lucifer. He will fly up and you will have to hit the buttons to make him
crash back down to the arena.

DI6C. Virgil Commentaries
=========================
As you progress through the Nine Circles, you will meet Virgil, who has been
sent by Beatrice to keep Dante safe and guide you through the circles. Talking
with him will add commentaries to your Journal, which tell you about where you
are or how the souls get sentenced there. Virgil will also give you relics
along the way to help you save Beatrice. Virgil will always appear on the main
path, so you won't have open side doors to find him. The locations listed are
according to the guide

1. Into the Blind World
Location: Florence
Into the blind world we have now descended. Put all fear and cowardice aside.
We have come to the cliffs above Acheron. Wretched souls walk this tortured
path to board Charon's vessel.

After dropping down the giant door that you opened using the Asterian Beast,
climb all the way along the wall. Once you finally reach the end, you will see
Virgil. He will also give you the Death Blade relic by talking to him twice.
This will be right before you enter the Shores of Acheron

2. Shores of Acheron
Location: Shores of Acheron
All souls that die from every nation collect here as one. Charon's rough
crossing awaits those who did not fear the Lord.

After you kill your first Guardian Demon, you will have to raise the platform
to a door and open it. When you open it, you will see Virgil ahead of you.

3. Limbo
Location: Limbo
Beyond Limbo is the fallen King Minos, judge of the damned. But for those who
remain in Limbo, the rest shall be sentenced to the circles below

After using the Asterian Beast to escape Charon's headless vessel, you will run
from crumbling platforms and break through a weak wall. Once you land, you will
see a Beatrice Statue and Virgil

4. Unblessed Infants
Location: Limbo
The unblessed infants, Baptism they did not have. The one gate to the true
faith was never shown to these newborn souls. Limbo shows no mercy for these
babes

After your first encounter with the Unbaptized Babies, open the Demon Door in
the room after you have killed all of them. Follow the path and you will see
Virgil next to another Demon Door

5. Hall of Kings
Location: Limbo
In this place reside honored names which resound in your life above. These
Pagan souls marked with great authority have won a measure of grace from
heaven. Though denied paradise, they dwell distinguished from the manner of the
rest.

As you make your way through Limbo, you will eventually reach a room with a
bunch of huge statues in it. Virgil will be in one of the corners on the right.
Because of the rather obscure location, it is possible to miss this commentary

6. Winds of Lust
Location: Lust
The winds of Lust smite these damned. No hope of less pain, no hope of rest,
ever comforts them.

After entering Lust, make your way to the opposite end of the bridge at the
beginning. Virgil is on the left side of the bridge, near the vortex

7. Semiramis
Location: Lust
Among those here is Semiramis, queen of Assyria, empress of many tongues. Her
passion ruled her and her kingdom.

After you first encounter the Temptresses of Lust, open the snake's mouth using
the crank in the room and destroy the fangs. Re-open the snake's mouth and jump
up to find Virgil

8. Helen
Location: Lust
In this circle is the once beautiful Helen, around whom so many years of war
and suffering revolved

After defeating Marc Antony and the tower collapses, you will have to swing
from the statues at the beginning of Lust. When you reach the other side of the
bridge, Virgil will be waiting

9. Gluttony
Location: Gluttony
For the ruinous fault of Gluttony, so are these sad souls broken by the rain
and the mud

After scaling the wall down from Lust, you will see Virgil next to a Beatrice
Statue, right before you drop down to fight Cerberus

10. Valley of Mud
Location: Gluttony
What these shades could not satisfy in life, in death they shall be denied for
eternity

As you make your way through Gluttony, you will pass through a mouth and have
to make your way through another one. You will enter the room that leads to the
Mirror Maze. Virgil will be waiting when you first enter

11. Greed
Location: Greed
For the crime of Greed do these souls suffer. Those clerks asquint of mind made
no measured spending in life. And by contrast, in these Popes and Cardinals,
greed practiced its excess.

After entering Greed, you will eventually watch a cut scene where you first see
your father, Alighiero. Shortly after this, you will see Virgil

12. Earth's Treasure
Location: Greed
All the Earth's treasure that is beneath the Moon, or ever was, connot give
relief to these weary souls. What a mockery is made of the brief battle for
possessions that makes so short a life.

After using the Asterian Beast to open the wall to the room with the saw
blades, open the door at the other end. Virgil will be in front of some prison
cells, where you find the Coin of Plutus relic and Coin 16

13. Plutus
Location: Greed
Let not Plutus, the God of Wealth, hinder your passage, whatever power the
accursed wolf may have.

After using the fire-breathing statue to proceed, you will come to a lift.
After riding it to the end, follow the path to find Virgil at the end of it.

14. The Wheel of Fortune
Location: Greed
The Wheel of Fortune. He who made the Heavens named a Guide, who transfers vain
goods from one blood to another.

After getting the "Plutus" commentary, you will have to fight off a bunch of
enemies then use the statue to proceed. After opening the Demon Door, you will
see Virgil ahead of you.

15. Anger
Location: Anger
See the souls over whom anger has prevailed. In the warm bath of the sun they
were once hateful; down here in the black sludge of the River Styx do they wish
they had never been born.

After dropping down into Anger, Virgil will be ahead on the path.

16. Pigs in the Mire
Location: Anger
Souls indignant! How many up there count themselves kings, that here shall be
like pigs in the mire, leaving their condemnations far behind.

After finding Coin 19 and pushing the block onto the sinking platform, follow
the new path and talk with Virgil to receive this commentary. Talk to him again
and you will receive the Medusa's Call relic

17. The City Draws Near
Location: Anger
Now, my son, the City of Dis draws near, housing its condemned citizens within.
The eternal fire that blazes there makes the mosques show red, in this nether
Hell.

After making it to the top of the tower, you will see Phlegyas coming towards
the tower. Once you regain control of Dante, go to the other side of the tower
and you will find Virgil. Above him are Coin 21 and the relic Guiding Flame

18. Heresy
Location: Heresy
Here you will find the heretics and followers of every cult and pagan sect, all
buried together, burning in eternal fire.

After making your way into Heresy after falling from Dis, a ray of light will
blast through a few walls. You will then land on a ledge and Virgil will be
waiting next to the Demon Door

19. The Harrowing
Location: Heresy
Not long after my own death, I saw a Mighty One come down and take forth from
here a group of ancient shades. Our first parent, his son Abel, Noah, Abraham,
and many others. The deep foul valley trembled on all sides, and I thought the
universe felt love.

After reaching the second hallway of flames, destroy the first Throne Demon
that appears. When you try to go through the Demon Door, another Throne Demon
will appear. After the second Demon has been destroyed, open the Door and
Virgil will be right in front of you.

20. Epicurus
Location: Heresy
In this part of Hell, Epicurus with all his followers, who make the soul die
with the body, have their burial place.

After climbing along the wall and avoiding the fire that is occasionally shot,
you will find Virgil on the ledge at the top of the wall, next to a Demon Door

21. Three More Circles
Location: Heresy
My son, within this remaining cavern, there are three more circles, one below
another, each full of accursed spirits.

After escaping the falling stalactites in Heresy, the wall behind you will be
blocked off. Virgil will be waiting next to the newly blocked-off path.

22. Violence
Location: Violence
In violence, wounds and death are inflicted against one's neighbors, and their
property. This ring torments those murderers and plunderers, and every soul who
wrongfully smites another.

After dropping from Heresy into Violence, head toward the ships in the
distance. Virgil will be waiting along the shore

23. Wood of Suicides
Location: Violence
One may lay violent hands upon oneself. And therefore in this place those who
deprived themselves of their lives repent in vain.

After crossing the lake of boiling blood with the two ships, Virgil will be
waiting on the shore.

24. Abominable Sands
Location: Violence
Violence may be done against the Deity, by denying him in the heart

After making it out of the Wood of Suicide, you will find yourself in a desert
area. Virgil will be waiting after you make it into the desert after the giant
fight where you see your mother's spirit.

25. The River Phlegethon
Location: Violence
The Phlegethon, the third river in Hell

On the ledge right before you fight Francesco. There will be waterfall of blood
behind him.

26. The Final Circle
Location: Fraud
Spur yourself onward, Dante. The final circle is near.

After beating the final Malebolge challenge and releasing Beatrice's soul, go
around the corner and as soon as the camera pans around, Virgil will be right
next to you or a little behind you

27. Treachery
Location: Treachery
For the sin of betraying the love & trust that Nature makes, at the center of
the Universe, in the seat of the Devil himself, every traitor is consumed
eternally.

When you reach the giant ice bridge in Treachery, Virgil will be on the right
side before you begin crossing the bridge. Due to the camera angle, it can be a
little hard to see him because he somewhat blends in with the bridge

earn this trophy early on in the fight

enemies that appear, you will have to use the Beast to open the giant door. As
you fall, you will receive the Trophy

3. Sentence the Judge: Defeat King Minos
King Minos is the boss at the end of Limbo. Avoid his tentacles by running
around and avoid his fist slams and sweeps by hiding under one of his tentacles

face while avoiding his tongue and the attack his lower stomach when he leans
back in pain. Then pull him to his wheel to slice his face

4. Lovers Torn Asunder: Defeat Marc Antony
Marc Antony is the boss at the end of Lust. For being an early boss, he is very
powerful. Cleopatra will intervene occasionally. Just avoid Antony's attacks
and attack him when his guard is down. After he is defeated, Cleopatra will
shrink down and appear at his side. During this cut scene, you will receive the
Trophy.

5. The Great Worm: Defeat Cerberus
Cerberus is the Gluttony boss and appears at the beginning of the level. To
defeat Cerberus, you must destroy the left and right heads before you are able
to hurt the middle head. To destroy the heads, you need to open the fire bulbs
in the arena and have the heads hover over them. When you finally get the
middle head weak enough and R2 appears, you must follow the button prompts,
otherwise Dante will be killed. After the middle head is destroyed, you will
receive the Trophy

6. Like Father Like Son: Defeat Alighiero
Alighiero is the boss of Greed. As you chip away at his health, the arena will
get smaller. Just avoid his attacks, especially when he raises his cross and it
begins to glow. There is a glitch that will cause Dante to fall through the
level and end up in Anger, skipping the fight altogether

7. Gates of Dis: Enter the lower circles of The Inferno
During your fight with Phlegyas, you will see Lucifer and Beatrice a few times.
After watching Beatrice transform, she will disappear with Lucifer. Dante will

the other side, you will use Phlegyas to open a pair of doors. Once you break
through, you will receive the Trophy

8. The Harrowing: Escape Heresy
As you make your way through Heresy, the entire level will begin to shake. A
bunch of stalactites will fall and the path will break away. Once you reach the
end and pass through a narrow opening, the path behind you will be blocked and
you will receive the Trophy

9. Precious: Find a Beatrice Stone
The first one you can find is hidden in Limbo. Right after pushing Charon's
head over the edge, there are some fountains and a Demon Dog behind where the
head was. One of the fountains contains a Beatrice Stone

10. Footsteps of a Traitor: Find 10 pieces of silver

When you enter Limbo, you will have to use an Exploding Minions to open a door.

enough, you can interact with it. Press R1 when it appears and Dante will push
the head over the edge

This Trophy is really easy to get. It is possible to get this Trophy during the
opening fight at the Acre Prison

16. Holy Warrior: Kill 30 Minions
You will probably receive this Trophy very early in the game. As long as
"Minion" is part of the creatures name, it counts toward this Trophy.
Exploding, Gluttony, Greed, Hell, and Undead Minions count

17. Demon Slayer: Kill 30 Demons
This one may take a while to get because Demons don't appear as often as
Minions. Guardian Demons, Throne Demons, Arch Demons, and Beast Tamers count
towards this Trophy, although you will probably have this Trophy long before
encountering any Arch Demons

18. Bad Nanny: Kill 20 Unbaptized Babies
You will probably earn this one while you are in Lust. You will first encounter
the Babies in Limbo and when you fight Cleopatra about halfway up the tower in
Lust, she will "birth" 3 Unbaptized Babies at a time

19. Indigestion: Kill 5 Gluttons
Your first Glutton will be encountered in Gluttony (Go figure). By the time you
kill your fifth, you will probably be making your way through the Malebolge
challenges

20. Confessional: Kill 5 Heretics
You will be able to start and finish this Trophy during your trek through
Heresy

21. Countermeasures: Kill 20 enemies using a counter move

abilities). The easiest enemies to kill to get this Trophy are Minions, except
for Exploding and Fire Minions, and Pests. Both of them only take one or two
counter attacks to kill

22. Superstition: Kill 20 enemies using magic
The easiest way to earn this Trophy is to use Sins of the Father. If you
haven't earned this Trophy by the time you reach Fraud, you can easily earn it
in the first Malebolge challenge because you have infinite Mana

23. Give Me Strength: Open 20 Health Fountains
This one, like "Sorcerer's Apprentice", will take a while to earn. You will
probably have this one by Anger or Heresy. Just open every fountain you find,
whether you need it or not

24. Sorcerer's Apprentice: Open 20 Mana fountains
This one, like "Give Me Strength", will take a while to earn. You will probably
have this one by Anger or Heresy. Just open every fountain you find, whether
you need it or not

25. Light in the Dark: Reach Holy Level 7
This one will take a while to get and may require a second playthrough. An easy
way to level up fast is to have Charon's Oar equipped whenever you absolve
enemies. With Charon's Oar at Level 3, you can earn about 800 Holy Experience
for every Damned soul you absolve

26. Death's Apprentice: Reach Unholy Level 7
This one will take a while to get and may require a second playthrough.
An easy way to level up fast is to have Tail of Minos and Francesca's Book
equipped. With both relics at Level 3, you can earn 800 Unholy Experience for
punishing the Damned (Tail of Minos) and 250 Unholy Experience for every 50
kills with your scythe (Francesca's Book)

27. Dark Forest*: Complete the Dark Forest on any difficulty
Make your way through the Dark Forest, and after catching the assassin, he will
break free and run away. Defeat the enemies that appear and follow the path.
Dante will look out over Florence and you will receive the Trophy during the
cutscene

28. Clear Path Not Lost*: Complete the Dark Forest without getting lost once
As you make your way through the Forest, you must go through the correct portal
each time and you cannot go back the way you came. If you do, you will not earn
this Trophy. If you did everything correctly without backtracking, you will
earn this Trophy at the same time as "Dark Forest"

Silver Trophies (13)
--------------------
1. Brotherhood: Defeat Francseco
Francesco is the boss of Violence. When he throws the sword into the ground,
avoid them, and interact with them to pull them from the ground and throw them
back at him. Do this until his shield breaks and hammer away at him until he
regenerates it. After he has been defeated, you will earn this Trophy

2. Bitter Sweet: Save Beatrice
After completing the last Malebolge challenge, Dante will encounter Beatrice
and try to win her back. He asks her forgiveness and places her cross on the
ground. She then reverts to her white soul and an angel appears to take her to
Heaven. During this cutscene, you will receive the Trophy

3. Power of the Cross: Find all 3 Beatrice Stones
The "All" part of the Trophy description is a little misleading. There are 6
Beatrice Stones in the Nine Circles, but you only need to find 3 of them. You
can find the third Stone in the Mirror Maze in Gluttony. For the locations,
refer to the Beatrice Stones section of the guide

climb down the wall. He will be on the ledge at the bottom of the wall

8. The Damned: Punish or absolve all 27 shades of The Inferno
Scattered throughout the Nine Circles, the first Damned soul is in the Shores
of Acheron and the last is right before the final fight against Lucifer in
Treachery, next to the Beatrice Statue. If you have judged all shades by the
time you find the last one next to the Beatrice Statue at the end of the ice
bridge in Treachery, you will earn this Trophy after judging

9. The Guide: Collect all Virgil commentaries
There are 27 commentaries that Virgil will give you as you speak with him
throughout Hell. The last time you meet him is at the beginning of the ice
bridge in Treachery. He is standing on the right side of the bridge, and it is

receive the Trophy while talking to him at the ice bridge if you have talked
with him every time you have seen him until he disappears

10. Soul Reaper: Collect 60,000 souls

souls. This is an overall total, not a one-time total

11. Masterpiece: Perform a 200 hit combo

have unlocked it, and use any souls you receive from there

13. Man of Evil: Max out the Unholy Path.
To get this Trophy, you need to buy all Unholy Upgrades If you are close enough
to getting this one, you can go through the Gates of Hell Arena, as long as you
have unlocked it, and use any souls you receive from there

Gold Trophies (3)
-----------------
1. Lucifer's Match: Defeat the Emperor of the Woeful Realm
In his giant form, Holy Cross attacks work well. In his second form, scythe
attacks are the way to go because Lucifer will return the attacks to you for a
good chuck of damage. His third form will try to leave Hell, and you have to
swing from the platforms that rise from the ground until you grab him and the
two of you crash back down to the arena

2. Poetry in Motion: Perform a 666 hit combo
There are two ways to do this one, but one requires at least one playthrough.
For the way that requires a return trip, you will want to have purchased Sins
of the Father Level 3. Enter the first Malebolge challenge and set the
difficulty to Infernal. Constantly use Sins of the Father and you'll easily
rack up 666 hits. Having Coin of Plutus helps as well. If you don't feel like
waiting, you can constantly use Holy Cross attacks during the fourth Malebolge
challenge, but it will take longer to do

3. Gates of Hell: Defeat all enemy waves in the Gates of Hell Arena
There are 50 waves of enemies in the Gates of Hell, some are easier than
others. As long as you have time left when you kill the final enemy of the 50th
wave, you will get this Trophy. An easy way to get this Trophy is to set the
difficulty to Casual and then clear the waves

Platinum Trophy (1)

The easiest way to earn this Achievement is to use Sins of the Father. If you
haven't earned this Trophy by the time you reach Fraud, you can easily earn it
in the first Malebolge challenge because you have infinite Mana

36. Give Me Strength (10): Open 20 Health fountains
This one, like "Sorcerer's Apprentice", will take a while to earn. You will
probably have this one by Anger or Heresy. Just open every fountain you find,
whether you need it or not

37. Sorcerer's Apprentice (10): Open 20 Mana fountains
This one, like "Give Me Strength", will take a while to earn. You will probably
have this one by Anger or Heresy. Just open every fountain you find, whether
you need it or not

38. Light in the Dark (30): Reach Holy Level 7
This one will take a while to get and may require a second playthrough. An easy
way to level up fast is to have Charon's Oar equipped whenever you absolve
enemies. With Charon's Oar at Level 3, you can earn about 800 Holy Experience
for every Damned soul you absolve

39. Death's Apprentice (30): Reach Unholy Level 7

40. Holy Man (30): Max out the Holy path
To get this Achievement, you need to buy all Holy Upgrades. If you are close
enough to getting this one, you can go through the Gates of Hell Arena, as long
as you have unlocked it, and use any souls you receive from there

41. Man of Evil (30): Max out the Unholy path
To get this Achievement, you need to buy all Unholy Upgrades If you are close
enough to getting this one, you can go through the Gates of Hell Arena, as long
as you have unlocked it, and use any souls you receive from there

42. Gates of Hell (60): Defeat all enemy waves in the Gates of Hell Arena
There are 50 waves of enemies in the Gates of Hell, some are easier than
others. As long as you have time left when you kill the final enemy of the 50th
wave, you will get this Trophy. An easy way to get this Trophy is to set the
difficulty to Casual and then clear the waves

43. Dark Forest (20): Complete the Dark Forest on any difficulty
Make your way through the Dark Forest, and after catching the assassin, he will
break free and run away. Defeat the enemies that appear and follow the path.
Dante will look out over Florence and you will receive the Achievement during
the cutscene

44. Clear Path Not Lost (20): Complete the Dark Forest without getting lost
once
As you make your way through the Forest, you must go through the correct portal
each time and you cannot go back the way you came. If you do, you will not earn
this Trophy. If you did everything correctly without backtracking, you will
earn this Achievement at the same time as "Dark Forest"
