Costume quest is a download-able title made by Double Fine, the same guys that gave us such stellar titles like Psychonauts. Why a guide? Well, Thnikaman twisted my arm! Nah, I'm joking, I like this stuff, so why not? We've split this game up into three parts, so I'll write parts I and III and the Thnikaman will guide you through part II. Enjoy! ============================================================================== Table of Contents ============================================================================== INTRODUCTIONS Walkthrough: Costume Quest Part I: The Halloween Night of your Life! ....................(CQ 1.1) Part II: The Dungeon Mall ....................................(CQ 1.2) Part III: Saving the world... and a Carnival! ................(CQ 1.3) Costumes: (CQ 2.0) FAQ: (CQ 3.0) Credits: (CQ 4.0) ============================================================================== Walkthrough: Costume Quest ============================================================================== ============================================================================== Part I: The Halloween Night of your Life! ............................(CQ 1.1) ============================================================================== We're introduced to two kids, twins named Wren and Reynold, who are dressed up and ready to go out trick-or-treating. After some typical sibling rivalry, you have to choose which of the twins you want to control (Who's in charge?). I choose Wren, as I liked her dialog better. Plus, she's got the robot costume. Make your choice with the twins and than go outside. First, a general tip for the game: Explore Everything!! Why not? Spend some time enjoying the scenery. You'll find plenty of candy just lying around, as well as (after the intro) plenty of stuff to whack and get candy out of! For now, enjoy the commentary from reynold and check out the first house near your own. Here the grown-up doesn't like reynold's costume (Garbage? Really Reynold?). And yes, it's Reynold's costume, cause robots are cool! Visit the next house to meet a wierd creature. This think is introduced as a Repugian soldier (Grubbin) and his name is Gus. He'll snatch Reynold up and run away. Wren, being the good sister she is (or just being afraid of getting in trouble with her parents) chases after him. Gus will throw reynold over a nearby wall and challenge you to a fight! Well, ordinarily you might be in trouble, but Wren's got spirit and gets mad. You'll than transform into a giant robot! All right! This is the tutorial battle, so just follow the prompts and press the buttons to increase damage given and decrease damage taken (similar to the Paper Mario series). You'll be doing this all game long, so get good at it fast and do it often to help yourself out. As you may know, you'll have several costumes throughout the game, each of which has their own way to give you an edge. NEW COSTUME: Robot FOCUS: Attack TYPE: Ranged COMBAT ABILITY: Missle Barrage Damages and applies a damage-over-time fire effect to all enemies. EXPLORATION ABILITY: Boost After the fight, you'll meet a witch named Dorsilla, who, after a little dialog, will cast a tornado on you that takes you back to your street and removes your costume. You'll also see an old guy crash into some nearby trash cans, blocking off the road for now (see why old people shouldn't drive!). If you try and go the other way, there's also some mummy kids blocking the other side of the road. For now, follow the cat to find a robot costume blueprint! Sweet! Starting now, you can also press triangle to go to your menu. Here you can check your status, battle stamps, quests (You have "Go after Reynold", "Find out more about the creepy witch who stole my costume", and "Find my robot costume"), costume patterns, and creepy treats. You'll be told to bash the pumpkins nearby to continue. You can actually go around the neighborhood, and the entire game, and hit various things (mailbox's, pumpkins, etc) for candy like I mentioned earlier. Head up the road the cat leads you to, and you can find plenty of candy and a treasure coffin containing a cardboard box for your robot outfit! Keep your eyes open for these tresure coffin's as they are scattered around the world. Grab the aluminum foil in the treasure coffin to the left as well (See it barely past the first one?). Keep going north and you'll find the last piece, the roller skate shoes! After getting them you'll get your robot costume back! You'll also be able to hold circle to zoom about with your skate shoes. Sweet! You'll have to use it soon, as when you head south, Gus will will throw some trashcans at you, which of course in true RPG fashion makes it so you can't go ANYWHERE. God forbid Wren moves the garbage cans! Thankfully there's a ramp here, and you can jump it while using your skate shoes. As soon as you jump the ramp, you also complete the robot repair quest. You'll also get a new quest to trick or treat 20 houses in the Auburn Pines Suburbs. Go check out the mummies to learn that the head bully's name is Travis, and he's trying to steal a knight's candy (The poor trick or treater's name is Everett). You'll also get a new quest named "Programmed for Protection". Keep talking to Travis and you'll get a scene. Here you have to out-run Travis as he chases you on his skateboard. It's pretty easy, just keep holding down circle and follow the road as it goes counter-clockwise, following the kids who're pointing you in the right direction. Hit the ramp at the end to teach Travis his lesson (with officer Nichol's help). This will open up the street in both directions and Everett will follow you as a partner. You can also switch costumes with him to obtain the knight costume! You can read about costume's anytime in your main menu (Triangle button, remember?). NEW COSTUME: Knight FOCUS: Defense TYPE: Melee COMBAT ABILITY: Guardian Shield A magical shield protects one party member from enemy attacks. EXPLORATION ABILITY: Shield You can also go around the back of the nearby houses on the left using the ramp. This will lead you on a backyard journey resulting in a lot of candy, with a treasure coffin at the end (go right, not back out to the street) with 20 pieces of candy. Go to the black gate and Everett will suggest getting his parents. Wren says no way though, as she's afraid of getting in trouble. The gate won't let you by anyway, not until all houses are, um, "liberated" of all candy. You can explore the park to the right of the gate for some more candy, than knock on the house above that to get a bunch of candy. The demon kid on the left is playing hide and seek, and by clicking on him you "found" him, starting the side quest "Auburn Pines hide 'n' seek". You'll have to find six kids to complete, so keep your eyes open (I'll tell you where they are, too...). The next house on the left is a Grubbin, so be ready for a fight! Remember you can press buttons to increase damage and decrease damage taken and you should have no problem! As I said before, the knight is a bit different than the robot, as you just need to press a random button before you attack. Defense is the same as the robot, though. Take out the wizard first, as he can light you on fire, but this is a pretty easy fight if you get your button presses right. Win the fight for a good chunk of experience and your first creepy treat: Raz-Ums. You'll also get your first trophy, Battle Buds! After the fight, Everett will suggest you go get some battle stamps from Sadie. She's in the Auburn Pines park. The park is in the north section of Auburn Pines, which is a ways away, but since Everett suggested it lets go check it out. Here you can CUSTOMIZE your costume's with stamps. I had around 540 pieces of candy by now, so I bought both stamps. You can equip them on the main menu; I put the black cat (adds chance of dodging enemy attacks) on Wren (who's wearing the knight in battle, the robot to get around) and the fang of the wolf on Everett. You can find another kid hiding poorly behind a tree to the north of Sadie. There's a cowboy grown-up here who gives out candy for playing his mini-game and quest "Suburbs bobbing for apples". This one is pretty simple: you have to bob for apples, which means switching between five different positions, waiting for the apples to come up, and hitting X. Easy. Aim for the green one's first, since their worth more and avoid eaten ones and ones with worms in them! There's three rounds to this mingame, which dole out the following prizes each round: 1st round: 20 pieces of candy. 2nd round: 50 pieces of candy. 3rd round: Sweet tooth creepy treats card. Ok, were done here. There's also a kid on the corner of the park who has another quest for you, "This card is so rare". Basically he wants an extra Glop creepy treet card and will give you a rare card for it. There's also a bakery sale lady to the right who has yet another quest: "Pie for the Putterpam". She wants a pie ingredient, so keep your eyes open. Lets go west from the park (Why west? 'Cause I say so! Bwahaha). This house has a treasure coffin to the side with 20 pieces of candy, which is nice since a Grubbin is in this house. Here you'll fight two warlocks. Eck. The one on the right has less health, so take him on first. They will do their standard hit you and light you on fire move, as well as increase their attack power (I think that's what the red fist does... I always kill them before it does them any good). You'll get a new creepy treet here, Candy hair. Keep going left to find a hide 'n' seek kid in a skeleton costume and glasses behind the car. Pfft, you call this hiding? This house will give you candy, so no worries. Further left is another ramp with a kid blocking the way, so go south. Near this house (well, past it, in the yard) is another treasure coffin with 20 pieces of candy. Knock on the door to meet another grownup with some more candy for you. We got the next house south, so head across the street to the house north of the park. There's a ramp here that leads to the back yard (and FYI, there's a trophy for jumping every ramp). Keep going up the street and bang on the next house to fight a Grubbin. This fight introduces a new grubbin, the Bombardier. Nothing special, just get your button presses right. I leveled up in this fight to level 2, and also got two new creepy treats cards: Fruity Foam and Chunkwutter. I kept following this inner ring of houses around to the other street and grabbed the candy from the very next house (follow the road to the east, than turn around and go south). Get the next house south of you to get even more candy from another grownup. That's all for the inside houses, and you're next to where the mummies were blocking you. Go across the street and knock on the house for another battle. This one is just like the last one, so get to it! You'll get a Glop card here. Go to the next house north of you can get the candy from the grown up. Keep following this sidewalk as it curves east and check out the next house's yard for some candy. There's some Grubbins in this house with a new enemy: the Grubbin Shaman. I'm going to presume this guy heals, so take him out first (Yes, he does in fact heal. If you've played RPG's before there's literally no surprise here). The warlock hits hard, but you should prevail. You'll get a Wobbler creepy treat after the fight. Go to the next house on the right, and explore the yard. Past the graveyard is another treasure coffin with 50 pieces of candy. The house here has a grown-up, so more candy for you. If you keep going east you'll hit a wall and find a kid guarding a storm drain nearby, and he needs a password of course, so keep following the path to reach the next house on the north. Here you'll find a hobo kid to the east of the house, so talk to him to get your fourth "found" kid in the hide 'n' seek game. This house has Grubbin's, but they're just grunts, so take them out for two more creepy treats: Swedish Nose and Shimmerfizz. The next house to the left doesn't have anybody, but it does have a kid guarding the yard. Read the hilarious dialog to get a new quest: "The Patriot's Party". You'll need to find something patriotic to get in. Talk to the lincoln nearby to get the password: Manifest Destiny. Keep heading left down the road. You can check out Sadie's again for three new battle stickers if you want them: Moving Tombstone (Increased HP), Egg ("Egg on Your Face" ability), and Disembodied Hand (Counterattack). You can only equip one battle sticker, so pick whichever one you want (I'm sticking with my original two, for now). Now that you have the password, you can get the boy blocking the ramp at the end of the street to move. Jump the ramp and you'll be in some backyards again. The treasure coffin here has a piece of a costume: Cardboard (We are trying to make the Statue of Liberty outfit; you can check it out in the menu). Talk to the next lincoln, who trusts you and gives you a feather duster (the second piece of the Liberty costume). Jump this ramp to get out to the street. Now go back to the patriotic party and continue east to the lincoln guarding the sewers. He'll let you in with the password. If you just try and walk in, Wren won't go, as she doesn't want to get her cardboard wet. Makes sense. Switch to the knight and use his shield ability to protect yourself, than enter. Take the first path on your right to get the sheet from the treasure coffin. Wren and Everett will discuss the difference between patriotism and freedom from tyranny for a bit, too (this dialog is great!). Take either exit to get back to the street. NEW COSTUME: Statue of Liberty FOCUS: Support TYPE: Ranged COMBAT ABILITY: Anthem Restores a medium amount of health to all party members. EXPLORATION ABILITY: None Head to the kids party now and they'll let you in. Get the candy and bust the shrubs to get to the treasure coffin. The kid proclaims this a party now that stuff is breaking, and you'll get 50 pieces of candy, so it's win-win (Don't break stuff, kids!). If you try and go to the cherry tree, a squirrel will throw stuff at you, so use the knights shield to grab the nearby cherry. Take the cherries to the bakery lady to get by her and get some xp! Sweet! Talk to her again for some more funny dialog. Ok, lets start on the right this time. Visit this house to get some candy from a grown-up. Keep going north and you'll see a ramp, which leads through several back-yards and lets you open a treasure coffin for 20 pieces of candy. With all the ramps, you should get the "Binary Bouncer" trophy right about now. Go back to that ramp and visit the house on the left to fight a Grubbin. Take out the shaman first and try out Lady Liberty if you wish. Her special can heal the party and her basic attack requires you to move the "L" stick around to attack. Not a bad costume! You'll probably level up after this fight, too! You should get a Fruity Foam here. Check out the next house on the left to get some candy. Keep going and "find" the dinosaur kid, than knock on the door to fight the Grubbin's. Nothing special, you'll get a Glob here and another Swedish Nose. Go trade the kid your extra Glob now for his Choconana card. Nice. Go back to the last house you were at and west to find a frog kid who wants your second Fruity Foam card. Give it to him to get his Moops card. There's also a sewer entrance here that you can explore. Go in it and take the upwards route to find the last hide 'n' seek kid. For finding all of them, you'll get a candy tote bag and some experience! Open the treasure coffin here to find 50 pieces of candy. Exit the way you came in and visit the back yard to the south to find another treasure coffin, this one has another 50 pieces of candy. The house to the right has some candy in it, so go get it. That was your last house, and visiting it opens up the monster gate, so head there now. You can use the sewers to the left to get there quick. Going through the gate gives you a new quest: "Those tombstones aren't styrofoam". ============================================================================== Part II: The Dungeon Mall ............................................(CQ 1.2) ============================================================================== So, now we've gotten through that pesky gate. It's time to find that dork of a sister, Wren (Note that Thnikaman and I are each playing the opposite character. ~ BK). One of the first things you'll notice is that here the enemies are in the open. Also, there seem to be three enemies in every group now. If you sneak up on them (which is a breeze) you will do initial damage to all enemies in the battle. Just continue on through the graveyard bashing Grubbins on the head and wiping them out. You'll have three battles before you see a scarecrow that's shouting at you. He warns you about the witch, but more importantly he'll give you a pumpkin costume pattern and some paper mache to start you off. Leaving the generous scarecrow behind, travel a bit further down the path. You'll see some sarcofagii that you can't open so we'll get back to them later. Keep walking and a cut scene will begin, in which the witch is berrating a monster with a megaphone. Near him is a bus being loaded up with candy; on this bus is Wren. After you sass-mouth the creature you'll begin the game's first boss fight. ===== Boss! ===== BOJONN: A huge demon thing with a megaphone (Maybe you shouldn't have sassed him!) HP: 250 Attacks: Mandatory Team Building Exercise: Summons Grubbins (To stop this attack, destroy his megaphone.) Shoulder Charge: 40-50 damage He's big but not excessively hard. Just be sure to take out his megaphone early to avoid him summoning more Grubbins. Once you do that all he can do is charge you. Make sure to hit the blocking cues and you'll be just fine. After you fail at riding on the bumper of the bus, you'll have to flee into the nearby mall. Here you'll discover that there is a candy store in the mall that is the likely target for the Grubbins. At the top of the escalator you'll discover that your character has a major inhibition regarding dark spaces. Being that you can't continue down the dark path, head north and you'll see some debris falling. Switch to the knight costume and use the shield to pass through it. Soon, you'll see a guard cowering in fear. He apparently has a phobia of teenagers and can no longer function as a security officer in their presence. Of course, there are no teenagers here, but rather candy swiping monsters. He'll give you a space warrior pattern, since he is too crippled with fear to attend the mall's costume party. Head east down the escalator and you'll see a new type of monster (A fat roundish thing called a Trowbog) pacing back and forth. Wait till it's facing away from you and give it a smack. (Trowbog's are just beefier versions of the Grubbin's you've fought so far! Just prioritize killing the shamans and carry on as normal. Healing helps a ton in these upcoming fights. ~ BK). Win the battle and carry on. You'll see another Trowbog to the south and straight ahead of you a man. The man will give you some snow boots in lue of candy. Now go fight the Trowbog. Once you defeat the monsters, continue south a bit. To the east you'll see a construction worker. Disturbed by your lack of safety equipment he gives you a visor. Further east you'll run across a sleeping janitor. Wake him and he'll give you some empty soda bottles. Now, you've got the space warrior suit ready to go NEW COSTUME: Space Warrior FOCUS: Special TYPE: Melee COMBAT ABILITY: Meteor Avalanche A giant asteroid damages all enemies. EXPLORATION ABILITY: Glow Equipped with this new costume you can now overcome the darkness. Get the chest thats just to the east of the janitor and kill the Trowbog there. Head north a bit and kill the other Trowbog before leaving the area. If you head south through the darkened area it will lead you back near the beginning of the level. Continue south until you reach the original dark hallway at the top of the escalator. Once on the other side you'll see a couple of Trowbogs in an area north of you. Kill them and explore the dark area to the north to find a chest. Head east up the escalator and follow the hallway. Continue east of the dark area and you'll find another chest. As you travel through the dark hall you'll encounter another Trowbog. Beat him and fight the Trowbog on the other side of the darkened hall. Around the corner is another Trowbog. Defeat him and head further down the path to find another gate. After a short cutscene you'll learn that to pass through the gate you'll need to stop the Grubbins from stealing the candy. Head through the door on the wall south of the gate. This door leads you to Central Station. Here you'll speak with the engineer who'll inform you that the tram is down. If you fix it however, he'll let you ride for free. Head down either of the nearby stairs to a nice little shopping area below for some trick or treating. Be sure to do all three tiers of the apple bobbing challenge, and talk to the scarecrow for another pumpkin costume piece. Now head west to the camp shop to buy some stamps. While your there make sure to find the mummy hide and seeker near the tent display. Then, head west and you'll find the skeleton hide and seeker. Go back to the stairs that lead up to Central Station. Behind a tree next to the west staircase is the super-hero hide and seeker. Also, continue behind the stairs to find a chest. Now go into the nearby arcade and make sure to get the chest behind the counter. You'll see that Grubbin and BoJonn are forcing kids to play games for tickets to get candy. Defeat them (They are MUCH easier this time around! ~BK) and you'll free the poor game slaves and more importantly get a costume piece and open a door to a secret tunnel. Well actually, the door leads to a part of the tram track. Here you'll find another young mystery buff to join your team. Also, you'll get her sweat pants. First, take the tracks south where you'll find two chests: one containing a costume piece and the other candy. Now follow the tracks north and you'll hear BoJonn up ahead arguing with someone. It becomes apparent they are using the tram to transport candy. Determined to stop them you forge ahead and begin yet another battle with the mighty red behemoth (Again, easier than before! ~BK). Having defeated him you will now have access to the tram. Before you use it though, be sure to follow the tracks as far north as you can. Here you'll find a bunch of candy. Once you jump in the tram it will take you back to Central Station. Now that you have three people in your group you can do the costume contest. Head over to the stage and talk to the man standing there. He'll tell you to talk to the three contest judges (who are wearing orange vests) to get a leg up on the competition. One is west of the stage south of the camp shop and she wants to see something educational (Statue of Liberty). The next is just outside the camp shop on the bench; he wants to see something high tech (Robot). The last one is next to the fry cart south of the arcade and she wants to see some chivalry (Knight). After you win the contest you'll be given a pattern for the unicorn costume. Make sure to hit every store on the bottom level and then head up the escalator east of the stage. Once at the top head to the far east corner near a plant to get the dragon hide and seeker. Then, go to the far west corner of the second floor to find the banana hide and seeker. There are no chests on the second floor but there is a way for you to access one on the first floor and the third floor. As you are walking along one of the southern walkways on the second floor you'll see some caution tape. Hit it with your bag and it will break, allowing you to fall down. Follow the water south till you cross into another room. Here you'll find a chest of candy (100 pieces! ~BK). Next, Go to the single escalator, south of the east escalator, and go up. You'll see a chest containing a costume piece. In order to reach the third floor you'll have to get past the ninjas blocking the escalators. Go to the west escalator to the third floor and you'll see a red ninja. Talk to him and he'll task you with collecting three monster horns. Now before you panic, horned Trowbogs will appear upon accepting this quest. They wander about the second floor. So go kill them and get their horns. Show those know-it-all ninjas who's the original monster hunter. Go back to the red ninja and give him the horns. After declaring you a crazy, terrible person he gives you the ninja costume pattern, which by now you already have the supplies for. He'll also grant you access to the third floor. NEW COSTUME: Ninja FOCUS: Attack TYPE: Melee COMBAT ABILITY: Kitsune Shroud Protects an ally from enemy attacks for one turn. EXPLORATION ABILITY: Sneak First thing to do when you get up there is to clear out all the wandering Trowbogs. That being done, you can do a little exploring. To the north west you'll see a dinosaur who wants a Slime Beatles card. Behind him is a waterfall. Use the knight's shield ability to pass under it and find a chest. Head east from here behind the large bat banner. There you'll find another chest. The last chest isn't on the third floor but accessed from the third floor. Go to the western edge of the map, near the tram. You'll see some caution tape (That's right, get ready for a fall...). Break through it and plummet three stories into the top of the large pumpkin that you no doubt saw on the first floor. Open the chest inside to receive a costume part. You should get the Unicorn costume now. NEW COSTUME: Unicorn FOCUS: Support TYPE: Magic COMBAT ABILITY: My Pretty Panacea Revives a party member and heals them to full health. EXPLORATION ABILITY: None Near the top of the east escalators on the third floor you'll find the princess hide and seeker. This should be the last hide and seeker on this level which will get you the pumpkin pale. Now, finish hitting all the stores and the gate you saw earlier will open. Return to it and use the tram to go to the next area. ============================================================================== Part III: Saving the world... and a Carnival! ........................(CQ 1.3) ============================================================================== Continue on to the candy store to view a scene! Ah, we finally reunite with our sibling! You'll have to fight a few Trowbogs as Metxel is loading candy, but once you almost kill one of them, Metxel will barge in! Boss Time! ===== Boss! ===== Metxel: A Grubbin riding a candy-dozer! HP: 2000 (In two different forms) Attacks: (With Candy-Dozer) Charge Attack: Charge up a slow but very powerful attack. (Without Candy-Dozer) Charge Attack: Charge up a slow but very powerful attack. This time it hits EVERYONE, focusing on one person and doing splash damage to the other two. Make sure to bring someone who can block damage (The Ninja is a great choice here), as your party members will TELL you who Metxel is targeting. He takes a while to charge his attack, so you should have plenty of time to throw a Kitsune Shroud over his target. Combine that with some hard hitting costumes to put Metxel down. After the fight, the witch will appear and teleport Metxel away in disgust, and than use your recording from earlier to drive a rift between the twins. Bah, how low can she go? You'll all be captured soon afterwards. You'll come to in a cage, with all party members dressed as candy corn. Break the southern portion of the cage and hit the sign to escape. You'll soon meet some crow creatures who are taking a break nearby. They also have your costumes, but you need a new costume to fight them. Nearby, just south of the crows by the hay is a frog kid, who is your first hide 'n' seek kid. Go down the road and you'll see a hiding frankenstein kid, so talk to them for your second hide 'n' seek kid. The carnival booth nearby charges around a million dollars to get in without a costume, so keep heading down the non-yellow brick road. The kid nearby wants to trade cards, so keep your eye open for a Street Chews card. To the right of that kid is a witch hiding, so just break the thorns and find her! There's also a chest to the left of the card kid (100 pieces!!), so be sure to grab it. Keep going to talk to the grown-up at the fry stand! For some reason he has a french fry costume (wha?!) and offers it to you if you'll get three customers for him. He'll even throw in carnival tickets! Deal! NEW COSTUME: French Fries FOCUS: Special TYPE: Melee COMBAT ABILITY: Salt Assault Salt and hot grease stuns all enemies for one turn. EXPLORATION ABILITY: Lure Head to the east and find the kids with drumsticks over their heads. This means you can use your french-fry circle ability to make them follow you to the fry man. All three customers are in this eastern area, so bring them to the vendor (Like some sort of sick FRIED PIPER!). He'll reward you with the costume and carnival tickets. Grab the chests north of the burning man and to the west of the stamp vendor for some candy. Now head back to the crow creatures and use your fry ability to lure the crow's into the barn, which will let you recover all of your costumes! Yea! May we never part again! Head back past the fry man and trick or treat all the houses in this area. The first two houses are humans, so get the candy and hit the third house to meet some new monsters: crows! Unlike the last crows, these one's put up a fight, but they aren't too hard. The will also mix in crows with Trowbog's now. Just like the jump from Grubbin's to Trowbog's, the crows have arch-types as well. I recommend using TP on warlocks and, of course, killing off the monks (healer's) asap! Check out the rest of the houses and head towards the carnival. The lady will let you in AND give you a vampire pattern costume. Nice. Check out the mystical dude nearby. Plot Twist! Dorian will letyou in on a few details and give you your new goal in life: "All's Fair that Ends Fare". Explore the fair and you'll find a hide 'n' seek kid south of the strength tester (south of the cannon). There's also a treasure coffin in the south-west corner and in the south-east corners of this area with candy in each of them. In the middle of this aread you'll find another apple-bobbing mini-game. There are three rounds here again, just like the last two times. 1st round: 20 pieces of candy. 2nd round: 50 pieces of candy. 3rd round: Sugar Bucket creepy treats card. If you go near the ferris wheel at the north end of the carnival you'll discover that a group of monsters have kidnapped some children. They've taken them to the top of the ferris wheel and are shaking the candy out of them. Well, you can't just stand by and let that happen, you've got to find a way to stop them. Fight the monsters at the bottom and get the chest to the left of the ferris wheel for a costume piece. Go talk to the grown-up by the cannon, who you can ask to let you use the cannon to get to the top of the ferris wheel. He won't let you though, which is good since grown-ups shouldn't let kids use cannons. Well, we're sneakier than him though, so use your ninja's special skill, sneak, to get by the cannon grown-up. Thanks to the power of Algebra, you'll shoot to the top of the ferris wheel. After a battle the enemies will fly off and another one will show you where to go next. Before you follow him through the darkness though, trick or treat the tents nearby. Once you get all the tents in this area, combined with the houses that you did earlier, you'll open up the next area of the game (There should be 16 houses all together). Now go through the path by the meat cones booth (Use the Space Warrior's ability). Northwards you can destroy the wall and make a path back to the houses. There's a hiding kid near the wall behind the orange tree here, and south of that is a kid who wants a Unicorn Pellets creepy treat card. You may be able to get the previous card kid's card by now too, so go back and check. Once you get these two special cards from these kids, and fill out your card menu, you'll get the cat costume. It's somewhat random when you'll get it, as you just need to fill out your creepy treat collection, but you can get into some more random fights to the west to help yourself out. NEW COSTUME: Black Cat FOCUS: Special TYPE: Magic COMBAT ABILITY: The Cat's Meow A booming roar with a chance to cause each enemy to flee. EXPLORATION ABILITY: None Go back to where you found the kid hiding my the orange tree and use the spaceman ability to go right into the cave. You'll find a piece of black cloth in the cave here for the vampire costume. Head out the cave the way you came in and head south down the path. Here you'll meet with Dorian/The Scarecrow again and he'll give you the last thing you need for the pumpkin costume as well as some speakers from the gate. NEW COSTUME: Pumpkin FOCUS: Attack TYPE: Ranged COMBAT ABILITY: All Hallows' Eve A powerful tornado that cuts all enemies health in half. EXPLORATION ABILITY: None Also, make sure to go through the trees by the banana kid to find a treasure coffin with the last part of the vampire costume in it. Wow, two new costumes so fast! Also, talk to the banana kid, as he's actually playing hide 'n' seek. I know, I know, the worst hiding place ever... but you get the bat-pail upgrade now at least! NEW COSTUME: Vampire FOCUS: Attack TYPE: Magic COMBAT ABILITY: There's a Bat in My Hair! A flock of bats attacks all enemies and returns health to the party. EXPLORATION ABILITY: None Keep heading east past the gate to talk to the Grubbin Defector. He'll try to help you out since he doesn't want Dorsilla living in his world and will give you the Grubbin costume pattern. We'll need to complete the costume to make our way past the crow guard south of the friendly Grubbin. Grab all the candy by bashing the pumpkins near the tree, than take the south-eastern path, go down when you can, than east, north, east, south all the way (You can follow the east path here for some candy in a chest), and than west. That'll take you to the first Grubbin who will give you a mask. You can bash the brumble to get back to the tree from here, too. Now take the path above the last one. There's a bunch of crows here to fight, but make your way east and travel north up and around the linear path until follow the path east and than west to get a chest with candy. Now take it west and south to get to the next Grubbin, who will give you some dirty socks and swear off candy. Again, break the brumble past the Grubbin to get to the tree. Now for the last area, north of the tree. Kill the crows you meet and make your way to the northwest for a treasure coffin with some candy. From there head south and stick to the west (and south) walls to come to the last Grubbin. He'll give you the last Grubbin costume piece and you'll equip it. NEW COSTUME: Grubbin FOCUS: ??? TYPE: ??? COMBAT ABILITY: ??? If you can't beat 'em, join 'em? EXPLORATION ABILITY: None Now you can get past the crow guard by the Grubbin defector. Use your monster costume to convince the dumb crow to let you by. You can jump the ramp to the west to get all that candy lying on the ground, than head east and follow the path. You'll meet Metxel here again, but it's pretty much just an easier fight than the last time you met him (he doesn't seem to charge up this time) and you're probably around level 9 now. Defeat him and keep heading west to reach a wide open area with two teleporters and a ton of candy on the ground. I recommend using the random monsters around the world to get to level 10 now, as you shouldn't be too far off. Plus, go check out Sadie's battle stamps to purchase anything you haven't got yet. Personally I'm using Robot, Vampire, Unicorn with Moldy Pumpkin Guts, Disembodied Six-Fingered, and 2-Ply toilet paper. When you're done getting to level 10, head up the western incline, grabbing the candy on the way. At the top you'll find Drosilla and your sibling, and, of course, Dorsilla will attack you. Boss time! ===== Boss! ===== Dorsilla: Mean witch trying to steal your sibling! HP: 4000 Attacks: Vine Cage: Grab a random party member and imprison them in a vine cage. Duplicate: Call forth two copies of herself. Basic Attack. Dorsilla means business! She'll use the vine cage to imprison someone, and when she does, focus your attacks on the cage to free them. If you got Moldy Pumpkin Gut's you'll even poison her. After that she'll use Duplicate and than start spamming basic attacks while there are three of her. Use the vampires special ability to keep your health up and keep hammering her and her copies. You'll poison them all with the pumpkin guts and probably light them on fire if you're using the robot (Missles are great here). After you kill two of the copies, she'll go back to using the vine cage again. Free your comrade and lay into her. When she gets low on health (somewhere around 600 HP), she'll start charging a powerful attack. Attack her and between the three attacks and her poison damage she should fall without even getting in her charged attack. If she did, just keep attacking until she falls (use the unicorn if you have to). After the fight you'll get the No-Eyed Vampire Bat battle stamp (Put it on Lucy the Unicorn and give Wren Vegetarian Witch's Brew). Dorsilla will turn away and feel sorry for herself. You can talk to her up to twice without anything happening, but she'll warn you that if you keep talking to her you'll have a BIG fight on your hands. This is the time to do anything you need to do as talking to her a third time leads to the final boss fight. If you're ready, keep talking to Dorsilla. Dorsilla will call for back-up now, summoning the fiend behind the nasty candy stealing operation, Big Bones. However, the speaker Dorian gave you will come out and show that Dorsilla was planning to back-stab Big Bones. Big Bones will send banish Dorsilla from ever getting into Repugia, sending her away, but not before she casts a spell on the kids. Huh.. oh well, Boss Time! ===== Boss! ===== Big Bones: The Mastermind behind the candy invasion! HP: 4000 Attacks: Basic Attack that hits ALL party members. Grubbin Spit: He summons three minions, eats them, than spits them out at a team member. This attack is un-blockable and HURTS! Sugar rush mode: Breath Attack that hits ALL party members. Grubbin Spit: He summons three minions, eats them, than spits them out at a team member. This attack is un-blockable and HURTS! Well, his basic attacks aren't bad at all as long as you block them, which is pretty much a necessity at this point. His Grubbin Spit HURTS and is un-blockable, hitting for somewhere around 160 HP. Thankfully he doesn't use it very often at all. Use the vampire's healing ability whenever you can, as well as the robot's missiles. Even with perfect blocking and the healing, Big Bones will eventually wear you out and kill either the robot or the vampire. He won't be able to kill the unicorn if he hits it with the Grubbin Spit since you have the healing stamp on Lucy. When he does eventually kill someone, just use the unicorn's special ability. Eventually, when he has around 1000 HP left, he'll break his scythe and eat candy out of it. This puts him in a sugar rush, which ups his attack noticably. Keep pounding him and use your specials. You may lose someone near the end, but you'll kill him long before he comes close to killing you. And with that you'll get a scene where Dorian drives the kids back to town as they distribute candy along the way. Everett and Lucy will spend the night with Wren and Reynold as the foursome divy up the candy. Congrats on beating Costume Quest. Bkstunt's Note: - If you liked this guide, please recommend it above. A: You get a battle stamp after defeating Dorsilla! Q: I need more experience, but I killed all the nearby monsters! A: Monsters respawn when you get to the point of the game when you can attack them before you fight! Try going back to a previous area and you should find some. Q: I need more candy for a stamp! A: Well, either find it in the environment or fight monsters. If you need more monsters to fight, see the question above! Q: How long is this game? A: Unfortunately, now as long as we all want it to be. It should last you somewhere around 5-6 hours though. Q: How do you get "Grubbins on Ice"/How do you access "Grubbins on Ice"? A: You need to download it! No one gets anything for free! Once you download it, you'll see "Grubbins on Ice" on the menu. Select New Game and pick "Grubbins on Ice". DON'T pick "Continue Game", as that will lead you right back to Costume Quest. ============================================================================== Credits: (CQ 4.0) ============================================================================== Bkstunt: Thanks to Zylicyde for the "recommendation" artwork up at the top of the guide and for the morale support.
