Yeah, hunting is the fastest way of money making fairly early on. Just kill, skin & sell every animal you find. That will net you some fairly decent money.
If you don't feel like doing that, depending on where you are in the game in terms of completion, Blackwater has a $100 poker game. If 4 other people playing & you win, you make a profit of $400 for roughly 10 minutes work (it takes me 10 minutes to win without cheating)
In Theives Landing, if you haven't already completed the corresponding Strangers Mission, the Liars Dice game is worth $200. Beat the two players there you make a profit of $400 as well. Again, roughly 10 minutes work. If you have played Liars Dice and won the property deed - but NOT taken back to the required person, the game should still be worth $200 until you end the strangers mission by taking the deed to guy.
Other than hunting, poker & liars dice, there isn't a lot of scope for quick, easily made money unfortunately.
Go to mc farlins ranch (online) go to the back of the jail and stand on the hay stacks jump into the wall until you glitch into the cell it may tack a while.
First go to the nearest tunnel that a train gose thrue make sure your on a hores a train will hit you but will not kill you only of you have invincible cheat on when the train hits you it should glitch you and your horse on the train.
Go to the town of Las Hermanas and go up the pair of stairs that go to the flower rack. Climb up the flower rack. Go across the roof and jump across to the next building. Climb up to the top the go straight to the top of the church. Goto the window to you right it's broke go into the room and find the box. Take cover by the box and wait. (tested online only)
This is the challenge most people struggle with, because we all want the buffalo rifle, but some damned cougars keep us from it.
Here's what to do:
1. Go to repentance rock
2. Find a cougar
3. Kill it
4. Find its friend (they always hunt is couples, negative to have a "Friend" hanging around"
5. Shoot it once in the stomach with a Volcanic (it will be slow and not aggressive)
6. Ride after it and knife it
7. Get off and skin it
Voila, buffalo rifle ready to be bought.
If your tired of the short scene when you skin the animals just ride your horse on top of the dead animal you want to skin get off and skin it and it will completely skip all of him skining it and you can get back on you horse and hunt some more.
Also, some outfits require you to win poker by eliminating all players at the table and you can do this by putting on the suit that alows you to cheat. Next go to the poker table and when you are the dealer then cheat and get caught doing it. Now a guy will catch you and he will duel you outside and you can either kill him or shoot his right arm, then go back to the poker table and there will be one less guy there now do this until there is just one man at the table then beat him to get the item for the outfit doing this will make it go much faster.
If your having trouble hunting bears, cougars or any other dangerous beast, & are sick of being killed by them. Go hunting in a stagecoach. You'll be protected from the animals attacks whilst having a brilliant height & line of sight advantage to take them down.
If you have trouble with Five Finger Fillet whether that be for completing the "Reyes Rebels" outfit, or just for fun, try these couple of hints.
First off, make sure you let the CPU do the action. If you do not, the computer will set a random time that is 90 percent of the time shorter than the time it took the CPU to do it in.
If that doesn't help you, try this one out.
Have a pen & paper ready, then enter a new game of Five Finger Fillet.
Now, have your finger on the start button to pause the cinematic. After the 4th prompt, pause, and write down the button sequence. Carry on doing that until you've written down every the entire sequence.
Now when it comes to your turn, make sure you start off the game by pressing X, then just look at your piece of paper & hit the buttons as you read them off your paper. Don't look at the screen, because that will put you off.
By writing them down, and then proceeding to do the sequence that way, you'll complete the game a lot faster than if you tried to hammer all the information into your brain & struggle.
If you having problems with the Pestilence mission where you have to scare away crows from eating all your corn in your silo and you are not using the casual aiming system. I strongly suggest switching your aiming over to casual for this mission, as double tapping L2 will switch your reticule over to the nearest crow & you can pop off the crows quite easily. Kill enough crows and your mission is complete.
If you want to go on a killing spree, but don't want to lose any of your Fame and Honour points, simply buy a bandana. Then you equipt your bandana buy pressing select, go to your kit, then press X on your bandana. Whilst you're wearing your bandana, any crimes you commit will not cause you to lose Fame and Honour. Whereas if you commit crimes whilst NOT wearing it, you will lose Fame and Honour points.
If your trying to complete the Dedalus & Son stranger mission, you first have to wait until Blackwater & the surrounding areas are unlocked by handing over Bill Williamson and Javier Escuela. Then you'll be told to travel to Blackwater.
Once that happens, the area/state is unlocked & you can search for Beavers to complete the stranger mission.
You need 5 Beaver furs and Beavers are found in the area south of Tall Trees.
When duelling, you'll have a short cutscene, then you'll see in the bottom right hand corner, two meters appear. As soon as those meters appear, draw & aim your weapon. You can either draw back on the right analogue stick & flick it forwards, or press L2 to give the same effect, then you can either move the reticule to your opponents right hand, or move it up to their chest/head.
Now the tricky part. In order to win your duel, you must have your meter, which is the left hand meter, filled up higher than your opponents at the end of the slow mo in order to win. Now, your reticule will flash between red and white. You want to click R2 to shoot when the reticule is WHITE. That will not only give you more accuracy, but fill your meter up faster than your opponent. If you get it right, you'll only need to press fire once & you'll almost fill your meter up completely. Then you'll win your duel.
If your trying complete outfits and you have to 'search' a specific area, the thing you're looking for is a chest. The chest is the exact same kind as you'll find within your own save room. So pay close attention to your surroundings. Sometimes they're within houses, sometimes they're out in the open, others hiding against fences or cement walls.
If you want to build up your fame meter quite quickly, you're going to need an Elegant Suit. One you have the suit go play poker in Armadillo. Get caught cheating on purpose to enter a duel. To get a good haul of fame points, DISARM your opponent by focusing the reticule on your opponents RIGHT arm & fire. DO NOT KILL HIM. Killing your opponent nets you HALF of the fame that DISARMING gives you.
One of the tasks to unlock Waltons Gang Outfit is to eliminate all players in poker in Amaradillo. This is easiest done by getting only one player at the table & playing him heads up & winning. Play slightly aggressive, but do not play weak hands & it's a synch. If your having problems getting a single player, if you have the Elegant suit, get caught cheating on purpose, then you'll enter a duel. Win the duel, then go back to the poker table, an opponent should still be there waiting for you to play.
If your having problems winning at Liars Dice, then a simple trick is to try and keep your betting low if your playing against multiple opponents. If you do this, the other two will bet bigger & be more likely to call the other CPUs bluff. Allowing you to swoop in & take them out a bit later on.
If you're wanting to find herbs for any reason. Whether it's to sell them or for a mission, the easiest way to find them is by buying the survival map. The map shows ever Herb in in your immediate area (herb locations change as you walk/ride your horse) for 20 minutes. So whether your looking for Red Sage in Rio Bravo for a Strangers mission or just general herbs to sell. The survival map is your best bet to finding them quickly.
If you're looking for a good horse early on in the game, then look no further than the horse you get as Bonnies gift. It's a golden/whitish stallion that you have to chase in a mission for Bonnie. If you lose your horse (its killed) then don't worry too much. Because you can either buy the deed to the Kentucky Saddler from any general store for $1500. Or, if your honor/fame is high enough, $750 due to discount.
Alternately if you come across a whitish golden horse in the wilder, it is the same breed as the Kentucky Saddler and so if you can break one in, which is slightly longer than most horse breaking you have yourself a pretty quick horse.
Also, the American Standardbred ($1500/$750 deed) black horse can also be found in the wild and it is of similar pace to the Kentucky, so look out for them.
Horses bought by deeds can be respawned via selecting the deed from your satchel if you should lose one via death. So don't worry if you spent big money on a deed & it gets killed.
If your having problems with capturing Bounty targets alive for that extra cash, try shooting the target in the legs once, then use Dead Eye to headshot as many of the opposing hostiles as you can. Then switch out to your Lasso and rope in the Bounty target & hogtie him, then eliminate any remaining hostiles. It may seem difficult, but I've found that it's all over in 15-20 seconds if it's done right.
