All you have to do is open the battery compartment ,
There should be a little toggle thingy put in to the slot on the front of the ps3 then put batteryes in close the compartment there is a botten on it some where hold it down until the portal flashes.realese and put skylander on and that should do it. Your welcome

THIS WORKS - I tried and tried and it wouldn't sinc then I tried a solution I found on this site - Sinc the Power of Portal while in another game.
Instructions:
Closed the game (skylanders)and opened another game, I opened a game I have saved on the ps3, then followed the directions on how to sinc - I unplugged the usb then replugged it in. I opened the back of the battery compartment, turned the portal on and then turned it upside down and pressed the sinc button so the light on the side of the portal flashes really quickly. Straight away the light stopped flashing and remained on (sinc'ed). I then replaced the battery cover and closed the game and reopened Skylanders - worked great. Would recommend this method to anyone having problems. Good luck.
