I was just talking to the smuggler on rykan V, and it ended up that he gave this object (which shows up in the inventory menu). He called it a synthenoid (or something like that), but it shows up in the inventory menu as an infobot. The description says that my ship has the components to play the message, but I don't know how to play it. Does anyone know?

Um I think you have found the wrong thing in the inventory, as info-bots automatically play messages in your ship, and the only person that gives you these info bots is Qwark, and when I visited Rykan V the only the smuggler gave me is the gyrocycle. I also think that the only other items the smuggler give are the Glenator (Cobalia), the decryptor (Sargasso) and the RYNO weapon (when supplied all holo-plan pieces). So he either gave you one of them, or you have received it from a different person.

Did anyone figure out what this thing was? I just played this part again and, when going back to speak to the Smuggler on Rycan V (after getting the gyro-cycle) you can ask him if he has anything else for you. He will then give you something called a Sythenoid, claiming that he 'already has one pest hanging over his shoulder'... The only problem is that nothing of the sort shows up on any of your inventory pages.
It's driving me nuts... What is this thing?
The infobot is gained from Quark and is not the synthenoid the Smuggler is referring to. Rather the Smuggler is giving you a Mr. Zurkon. If you read the description of Mr. Zurkon it refers to it as a 'synthenoid'.
Pretty sure when he gives you a "synthenoid" he actually just refills your mr zurkon ammo, because in r&c a synthenoid is something like the little flying robots that you can throw out in going commando
