Question for Grand Theft Auto 4

Hello! When I pick up the phone, I see it stands invites. I want to play online whith my friend and how can I do it? Do I need to add him as friend on my ps3 "Friend list" first?

Add him to your PSN friendsList then when hes online on PSN you can invite him to join your GTAIV party/room/server by selecting multiplayer on the phone
