Climbing ladder. TRYING!!!

When I am chasing that Ivan guy I don't know why but whenever I approach the ladder I just sway to the side and can't climb it, is there a special button that you have to press to climb. Please help, I've been screaming WTF at the TV for a while and there is nothing else for me to do in Liberty City.

Press Triangle when close and tap X to climb faster hold x while climbing down to slide.

Yes he does go to the when you are trying to run and climb you have to stop first then press triangle
