Question for Fallout: New Vegas

I stumbled accrossed this glitch were I could get unlimited free armor and 9mm ammo I think from chet at the store in good springs by repeadedly asking him to help me with ringos fight in Ghost Town Gunfight. Now I can't seem to figure out how I did it I know you have to botch the mission but I really want to figure out how I did it again?

If you fail the quest, you can then go ask Chet to donate supplies. Either next choice you pick should get you the free stuff.
