You need to achieve ICON status (500,000 in style) and have $5 million in wealth. To do this I never spent any money on clothing. All my money went into releasing songs and jewelry. $301,000 on Ludacris' song then $1,500,000 for your first artists' release. $3 million is the max amount you can spend on a song release. Don't worry too much about air play because that is mostly for multi-platinum releases. $1 million in jewelry = 100,000 in style. When I felt I could afford it I bought 5 chains worth $1 million each. I also had no girlfriends, chose wisely about artist expenses and all royalty % = 30.

With help from the Internet I just finished the game with:
Wealth: $604,075
Style: 1,184,004
Multi-platinum: 2
Platinum: 6
Gold: 6

I also spent the max amount of money ($3.million) for the 6th song but, it was right before (without spoiling anything) the opening cinematic. So basically I spent $3 million dollars to release a song for no reason. 0 units sold and 0 profit (haha).
