New Game + (Play through number 3)

I'm just curious, can you only play through this game twice using the same characters?? A friend and I made it all the way through the game twice using the same characters. After beating the game the first time, we had the option to go through the game again. When we beat the game for the second time, I never saw the option to play through a third time, it just let's us walk around going to any area and kill enemies, but there are no more objectives to complete. Can we play through the game a third time with these characters or do I have to start over with new characters to be able to do the objectives?? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, there's playthrough 1. Which is the starting playthrough. Then there's what myself & others I've spoken to have called playthrough 1.5 - which is just playthrough 1, continuing on. Then theres playthrough 2. Which allows you to re-do all the missions etc, with the same characters. Then once you've beaten the final boss, the destroyer or whatever it was called, & you return to Firestone, thats playthrough 2.5 - Its exactly the same as 1.5, except everythings a higher level. You occasionally run into level 51 enemies, right up to lvl 54 I think if I remember correctly - I haven't played this for a while.

There is only 2 playthroughs,and if you beat both of them then CONGRATULATIONS!!
