A lot of people understand that every character gains + 1 to all stats for the MAJORITY of their level-ups, and that it begins to falter over the past "few" levels. Well, as a Stat-Maxer, and somebody who wanted to plan their Stat-Maxing file from scratch, I became interested in finding out EXACTLY how this works. One Action Replay MAX purchase, and two playthroughs later, I finally compiled a list, in its entirety, of the statistic bonuses for every single permanent character in the game, hence 6 charts in total. I understand that this guide has come late into the life of Xenosaga Episode I, but I became entranced by this game, 2 years after it was created, and only decided to create a master-file now, thus the creation of this guide. I also figured that with Xenosaga Episode III on its way out, and the immense hype behind it, being announced as the final episode in the series, as well as having taken the more popular elements from both games, and removing some of the fluff, it was safe to assume that people would come back and play the first two chapters of the series. I want to also make it apparent, that this is only one part of an even bigger guide that I have begun; a complete Mechanics Guide, which I have only made a minor dent in, and these charts will belong smack-dab in the middle of. The math behind a video game is comparable to each individual sound in a symphony, and not unlike the symphony, video game algorithms are sorely under-appreciated, they are the heart of the game, as music is the heart of culture. What follows is a listing and detailed explanation of what each statistic does, specifically. ===============================[ Hit Points ] --------------------------------[ 04.01.00 ] Hit Points, or HP, are used to determine the "life" of a character. As one receives typically any kind of damage, regardless of how their other statistics affect it, HP is the value that decreases. There are two values in HP, a minimum and a maximum, represented as such: 0100/0100, for example. When a character increases in level, the SECOND value, or the Maximum increases, therefore, their HP becomes : 0100/0130 When a character is healed, the FIRST value, or the Minimum, increases, but no higher than the Maximum : 0130/0130 When a character is damaged, the Minimum DECREASES, and when it hits zero, the character is dead : 0000/0130. A dead character is represented by a Minimum HP with RED zeros. As a side-note, Critical HP ( simply showing the characters crouching down, in what seems to be an injured state ) occurs when a character's Minimum HP is 20% of their Maximum HP. There are no effects on a character's performance or capabilities when they are in Critical HP, their altered stance is simply a guideline to let you know that they need to be healed, just in case you haven't been paying attention to their HP. ==============================[ Ether Points ] --------------------------------[ 04.02.00 ] Ether Points, or EP, are exactly the same as MP ( or Mana/Magic Points ), in any other RPG. Again, there are two values in EP, a minimum and a maximum, represented as such : 16/16 When a character increases in level, the SECOND value, or the Maximum increases, therefore their EP becomes : 16/17 When a character is restored ( via an item ), the FIRST value, or the Minimum increases, but no higher than the Maximum : 17/17. When a character selects an Ether ( Spell ) to be cast, their Minimum EP decreases by the EP Cost of the Spell. Take, for example, the cost of Revert, an Ether that revives the target, and costs 12 EP to cast. If a character were to cast Revert, their EP would become : 05/17. Because their Minimum EP is no longer equal to, or greater than 12, they can no longer cast Revert, until they restore their EP. Simply put, characters can NOT cast Ethers whose EP Cost is greater than their Minimum or Maximum EP. ================================[ Strength ] --------------------------------[ 04.03.00 ] Strength, or Str, determines how much damage a character deals with PHYSICAL based attacks, and Tech Skills. As a basis, most attacks which require a character to get close to an enemy and hit them with any kind of weapon, are Physical. As a side-note, all of Jr.'s _ATTACKS_ are Physical. ================================[ Vitality ] --------------------------------[ 04.04.00 ] Vitality, or Vit, determines how much damage a character receives from PHYSICAL based attacks. Most Physical attacks dealt by enemies follow the same guidelines as character attacks; the enemy will get close to a character and physically hit, stab, or slice them. ==============================[ Ether Attack ] --------------------------------[ 04.05.00 ] Ether Attack, or EAtk, determines how much damage a character deals with Ethereal attacks, and Tech Skills, as well as the power of their Healing and damage Ethers. As a basis, Ethereal Attacks and Tech Skills can be determined as long- reaching attacks that are not dealt with a gun ( beam weapons, however are considered Ethereal Damage ). =============================[ Ether Defense ] --------------------------------[ 04.06.00 ] Ether Defense, or EDef, determines how much damage a character receives from ETHEREAL based attacks, and Ether Spells. Again, most Ethereal Spells are distinguished by having a flashy animation and showing the enemy in a "casting" position, such as chanting, or being engulfed in light, for example. ============================== [ Dexterity ] --------------------------------[ 04.07.00 ] Dexterity, or Dex, determines how often a character's Physical or Ethereal attacks succeed in HITTING the enemy. The higher the Dexterity, the greater the chance to hit, and the higher the enemy's Evasion, the lesser the chance to hit. =============================== [ Evasion ] --------------------------------[ 04.08.00 ] Evasion, or Eva, determines how often a character succeeds in avoiding an enemy's Physical or Ethereal attacks. The higher one's Evasion rating, the easier it is to avoid taking any damage at all. =============================== [ Agility ] --------------------------------[ 04.09.00 ] Agility, or Agl, determines how quickly a character's turn comes up. If you notice, there is a window in the bottom right of the battle screen, called the GTW ( Group Turn Window ). What this does is calculate, in a long line of turns, who will take their turn and in what order, and then condenses it into a strand of no greater than 6 turns at a time, to allow the player to manage their turns efficiently. The higher one's Agility rating, the faster they move, however, increasing Agility is limited : One can not increase their Agility manually; instead, a character's set Agility rating is PERMANENT, and the only way to TEMPORARILY increase it is by equipping the White Ring ( of which there is only one available in the game ) or by extracting the AGL+1 Skill from the White Ring, or both. Essentially, this means that the highest a character can get their Agility is their Agility + 2, however only ONE character can do this at a time, due to the limited amount of White Rings in the game. Independent of the Agility statistic, there is a way to further increase a character's speed, which is through Ethers or Items: This method does not result in increasing a character's Agility Statistic, but increases their overall speed. As a side note, I believe that a character's Agility rating is calculated Quadratically ( rising in the power of 2 ), so if one were to have 50% more speed, it would NOT be equivalent to having 50% more Agility. There is no grounds for this, because the calculations behind the GTW are still a mystery, and I have yet to uncover the inner-workings of this device. ============================[ Experience Points ]============================= --------------------------------[ 05.00.00 ]---------------------------------- Experience Points are the lifeblood of any RPG. You NEED this, to increase your characters' levels, learn new spells, or boost statistics. Sometimes a game will come out where Experience isn't actually called Experience, but it is ALWAYS there, in some form or another. In Xenosaga Episode I, there are 4 types of "Experience" : Experience Points, which are used to increase a character's level. These are applied AUTOMATICALLY, upon receiving them. Tech Points, which are used to increase a character's statistics, or increase the Power, Speed, or Cooldown rating of a Tech Attack. These are applied automatically to a "bundle" whose maximum is 9999 ( so there's no point in letting them sit, use them up right away ), and are to be used by the player to increase said statistics. Ether Points, which are used to learn new Ether Spells from a character's Spell Tree, or transfer learned Ethers to another character. As with Tech Points, these are applied automatically to a "bundle" with a 9999 maximum, and are used manually to learn new Ethers. and Skill Points, which are used to extract the capabilities of Armour and Accessories, so that one can expand their list of passive capabilities from 3 to 6. This also allows them to equip 2 of an identical skill, which otherwise could not be equipped twice Again, these are applied automatically to a "bundle" whose maximum is 9999, and are applied manually to pieces of equipment for skill extraction.. Since this guide is inclusive to levels, and statistic bonuses, I'm just going to focus on how Experience works. ===========================[ Experience Formula ] --------------------------------[ 05.01.00 ] The Experience Formula is as simple as simple can be : ( ( Current Level + 1 ) ^ 2 ) * 10 This determines how much Experience a character will need to get from one level, to the next. There is a much less simplistic formula, devised by Ragnarokesper of the Gamefaqs.com message boards, used to determine the TOTAL Exp needed for each character to level-up. It should be noted, however, that while I included it in the Experience Chart, it only applies to Shion, and KOS-MOS. Thanks to Ragnarokesper of the GameFAQs message boards for the total Experience formula : 10 * [ Level * ( Level + 1 ) * ( 2 * Level + 1 ) / 6 - 1 ] Though each character joins the party at a set level, their Total Experience will read "0", and thusly, not accurately reflect the amount of Experience a character technically needs to get from level 1, to level 99... As a side note, I should thank Cat Nip, AKA Split Infinity on the Gamefaqs.com message boards for pointing me in the right direction for my Exp Next formula. Even after he told me the Experience Formula for Episode II, I proceeded to take notes on the Experience pattern in Episode I. I later figured out the formula, re-read Split's post, and realised it was the same thing. Heh. Allow me to put all of your questions to rest, regarding the distribution of Experience Points. Combatant Experience : [ ( Total Experience / Living Combatants ) * Experience Mod / 100 ] Mod = 100 If Master's Pendant equipped, Mod + 25 If Experience P + 25 equipped, Mod + 25 Reserve Experience : [ ( Total Experience / Living Combatants ) * 3 / 4 ] The Master's Pendant, and Experience + 25 Skill do NOT effect Exp growth for reserve characters in any way. Period. This bit of info can lead to an effective trick to syncing your characters without having to use Hemlocks and let them die. Here's a direct example of Experience distribution, step by step: Step I: Calculate the total Exp dropped by all defeated enemies in battle. Let us imagine we killed 2 Goblins and a Manticore on the Woglinde. Example: = 40 + 40 + 30 = 110 Step II: Count the amount of "combatants" that remained in battle ( HP > 0 ). This value will obviously be between 1 and 3. Step III: Divide Total Exp by the amount of "combatants" that remained in battle. The results are to be FLOORED ( decimal places rounded down ). Example: = [ 110 / 3 ] = [ 36.6666 ] = 36 Step IV: Distribute the value determined in Step 3 to all remaining "combatant" characters, after factoring in individual Experience Modifiers. = [ 36 * Experience Mod / 100 ] Step V: Divide Total Exp by the amount of "combatants" that remained in battle. Multiply this value by the fraction 3/4 ( to determine 75% of the Experience value ). The results are to be FLOORED ( decimal places rounded down ). Example: = [ ( 110 / 3 ) * 3/4 ] = [ ( 36.6666 * 3/4 ] = [ 27.49995 ] = 27 ****IMPORTANT**** You MUST multiply the decimal value obtained by dividing Total Exp by remaining combatants, NOT the floored value. While it might not seem important if the amount of experience divided by the number of surviving characters is an INTEGER ( read: no decimal places ), you will notice errors when the value is not an integer, if you do not use the floor function as stated. ****IMPORTANT**** Step VI: Distribute the value determined in Step 5 to all "reserve" characters. ****IMPORTANT**** A character that has not yet joined the party will not be considered a reserve, meaning that regardless of EXP gained by Shion and KOS-MOS at the beginning of the game, Ziggy, MOMO, chaos and Jr. will _ALWAYS_ join at the same level, and amount of Experience. Period. Secondly, once a character has joined the party, but is not present in the menu ( for instance, sections when Shion is alone or when KOS-MOS is still dormant while the remaining 5 characters battle ), they are _ALWAYS_ considered a reserve, meaning that they will level-up with 3/4 ( or 75% ) of all distributed EXP to living combatants until they re-join the party. ****IMPORTANT**** =========================[ Statistic Bonus Charts ]=========================== --------------------------------[ 06.00.00 ]---------------------------------- All of these charts were done with a painstakingly high amount of patience, time, and effort. Please appreciate the work I put into this. As a side note, anything that is indicated by three dashes ( "---" ), has NO bonus whatsoever, meaning the statistic does not increase. However, if you have managed to sync HP before the Pleroma situation ( which is highly unlikely ), the girls will have a higher Maximum HP than he does. Either way, HP increase won't really matter much before he joins; he'll most likely be in the lead for the whole game. ****NOTE**** Shion gains + 1324 to HP by level 97. KOS-MOS gains + 1640 to HP by level 97. Ziggy gains + 1515 to HP by level 97.* MOMO gains + 993 to HP by level 96. chaos gains + 1158 to HP by level 97. Jr. gains + 1118 to HP by level 97. This is a total of 7748 points gained through level-ups. *By backtracking Ziggy's HP growth to level 1, using his HP growth pattern, I believe his initial Level 1 HP value is 200, meaning that he gains 1720 to HP by level 97, and meaning that he has the highest HP growth in the game...which isn't a stretch of the imagination. But since there's no way to get him to level 1, that really doesn't matter, does it? ****NOTE***** By rounding off every Bonus that each character gets to HP, to the nearest multiple of 10, the amount of bonuses to HP are as follows: Shion gains + 900 to HP before bonuses degrade below 10. I will attempt to explain how Statistic increases work, however I would suggest using morph's Stat Maxing FAQ found here: http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/xenosaga_stat_maxing.txt In short, if Ziggy has 40 Strength, and everybody else has less than 40 Strength, then 40 is the maximum. Tech points are then used to increase a character's Strength until it can no longer be increased ( read; Strength is 40 ). When a character levels up, they increase all of their stats. If, for instance, Jr. gains 1 point of Strength, the maximum for all other character becomes 41. Because of this, every character has a chance to increase their statistic 6 times every level ( 6 characters, + 1 to a statistic ), not including levels where characters gain + 0 to a statistic. For exact numbers, refer to the charts in article [ 06.00.00 ]. And please understand, in mine and in morph's explanation of statistic maxing, we are using HYPOTHETICAL values. Don't be alarmed if Ziggy doesn't always have max Strength, or if you don't always gain + 1 to each stat; that's what this FAQ is for. ================================[ Formula ] --------------------------------[ 08.01.00 ] There are 3 values pertinent to accurately defining the exact amount of points needed to increase a statistic; Stat : This is the value of the current statistic. For instance, if Strength is 40, the stat is 40. If Strength is 12, the stat is 12. Slope : This is what determines the direct relationship between the statistic, and the amount of T.Pts needed. Intercept : This is a passive value that creates a minimum amount of points required to increase a statistic. The formula is as follows ( a big thanks to ragnarokesper of the GameFAQs message boards for providing me with this formula ) : [ Stat * Slope / 99 ] + Intercept Please understand that [ and ] denote the FLOOR function: All decimal places are to be rounded DOWN to the nearest multiple of 1. For example: 5.3 = 5, 5.9999999 = 5, 5.1232143564368343 = 5 Each statistic nets its own individual slope and intercept ( and obviously stat as well, unless you've been syncing all of your stats to look the same ). [ HP * 20/99 ] + 20 [ EP * 200/99 ] + 20 [ Str * 200/99 ] + 10 [ Vit * 140/99 ] + 8 [ EAtk * 200/99 ] + 10 [ EDef * 180/99 ] + 9 [ Dex * 200/99 ] + 10 [ Eva * 180/99 ] + 8 Now that you know the formula, I'll be discussing the potential maximum for stats. ==============================[ Distribution ] --------------------------------[ 08.02.00 ] As per the Experience Distribution Formula in article [ 05.03.00 ], there is a very simple, however somehow made out to be overly convoluted. The following formula is exactly the same for Tech Points, Ether Points, and Skill Points. Tech Points Received : [ ( Total Tech Points / Living Combatants ) * Tech Point Mod / 100 ] Mod = 100 If Swimsuit equipped, Mod + 25 If Tech P + 25 equipped, Mod + 25 Here's a direct example of Tech Point distribution, step by step: Step I: Calculate the total Tech Points dropped by all defeated enemies in battle. Let us imagine we killed 2 Goblins and a Manticore on the Woglinde. But we must also calculate each monster's Tech Point distribution in accordance with the Point modifier they died on. If they died on a turn that was NOT a point modifier, then the Tech Point distribution for that enemy is unaffected. If they died on a turn that was a point modifier x 2, 4, or 10, then the Tech Point distribution for any enemies that died on that slot are multiplied by 2, 4, or 10, respectively. In our example, we are going to pretend we killed a Goblin on a x2, a Manticore on a x 10, and the second Goblin on a x 4. Goblin = 6 Manticore = 3 Example: = ( 6 * 2 ) + ( 3 * 10 ) + ( 6 * 4 ) = 12 + 30 + 24 = 56 Step II: Count the amount of "combatants" that remained in battle ( HP > 0 ). This value will obviously be between 1 and 3. Step IV: Divide Total Tech Points by the amount of "combatants" that remained in battle. The results are to be FLOORED ( decimal places rounded down ). Example: = [ 56 / 3 ] = [ 18.6667 ] = 18 Step V: Distribute the value determined in Step 3 to all remaining "combatant" characters, after factoring in individual Tech Point Modifiers. = [ 18 * Tech Point Mod / 100 ] ****IMPORTANT**** Reserve characters will NEVER, EVER gain Tech Points, Ether Points, or Skill Points. This is a fact. If you open up their menu and they have Tech, Ether, or Skill Points in their possession, the ONLY reason is because they were either switched out of the party ( by you, or automatically ) after a previous random or boss battle, or because you used an Upgrade item on them. ****IMPORTANT**** ===============================[ Maxing HP ] --------------------------------[ 08.03.00 ] First of all, this is how I came about the approximation that HP does, in fact, have a maximum: One must understand, that with HP always differing from one character to the next, and each character's bonus dropping by 1 point every 3 to 5 levels, HP is a LOT harder to pin-point for a final maximum, whereas, all of the other stats increase by 2, 1, or 0 throughout, and can be more easily monitored. What I've done is rounded every bonus every character gets, to the nearest multiple of 10 ( 33 = 30, 29 = 20, 18 = 10, < 10 = 0 ). This has given me the value of 5,410 as a potential maximum for statistic bonuses for characters before their HP bonuses degrade below 10 points. By tallying up groups of the < 10 HP bonuses on Ziggy's Statistic bonus charts, and rounding each group to the nearest multiple of 10, I've deduced that there is approximately 90 more points of HP to be gained, meaning that the potential maximum for statistic bonuses for HP is approximately 5,500. By adding this to Ziggy's base HP, we get 5,905, or 5,900 as a possible upgrade-able maximum. With that said, it should be noted that a character can only increase their HP by 10 points at a time, and only to the highest value rounded down to the nearest multiple of 10. Therefore, if Ziggy has 5,905 HP as described above, the highest possible maximum anybody can get ( aside from him, of course ), would be 5,900. I haven't gone through and done a level-by-level comparison to optimize HP bonuses, but this value is a fair assessment as it is. Expect to spend well over 360,000 Tech Points to increase HP this high. ASSESSMENT : Max HP : 5,900 T.Pts Required : ~360,000 ===============================[ Maxing EP ] --------------------------------[ 08.04.00 ] EP is relatively easy to maximize, due to it, much like Dexterity and Evasion, being capped at 99 points. There is one exception, however. Characters can only upgrade EP 2 points at a time, to a multiple of 2. If one character has 30 EP, and another has 31 EP, that does not mean that the first character has a potential maximum of 31...it means that their maximum is 30. The game rounds down in this instance. Essentially, this tells us that we can only upgrade EP every SECOND time it increases, at the maximum. Let me run through the process of upgrading EP with you, assuming we have unlimited Tech Points to work with : Shion starts the game at level 1 with 14 EP. KOS-MOS starts the game at level 1 with 20 EP. Our potential maximum is currently 20. So let us say we expend the 216 points Shion needs to increase EP from 14 to 20. Shion has 20 EP, and is level 1. KOS-MOS has 20 EP, and is level 1. Now, let us assume Shion has levelled up. Shion has 21 EP, and is level 2. KOS-MOS has 20 EP. Nobody can increase HP, because 21 is rounded down to the nearest multiple of 2, which is 20. The game assumes the maximum EP is 20, therefore, KOS-MOS has the maximum EP. Now, let us assume KOS-MOS has levelled up. Shion has 21 EP, and is level 2. KOS-MOS has 21 EP, and is level 2. Normally, with any other stat, this would be a wasted level, however, due to the level cap, it is negligible, but here is where the true trick lies. Let us assume, yet again, that Shion has levelled up. Shion has 22 EP, and is level 3. KOS-MOS has 21 EP, and is level 2. If we expend 64 Tech Points to increase KOS-MOS' EP from 21 to 22, Shion has 22 EP, and is level 3. KOS-MOS has 22 EP, and is level 2. Now, because of this, Shion took 2 levels to increase her EP by 2 points, and KOS-MOS took 1 level to increase her EP by 2 points... Theoretically, because KOS-MOS is the next to level up, SHE will be the one to raise the maximum for the next 2 levels, while Shion levels up once, and waits to increase her EP by 1 point when she reaches level 4. This means, we have spent 6 levels obtaining 2 extra points of EP. While, at most, Ziggy requires 23 points of EP in order for him to reach 99 naturally, this would be spread across 69 levels ( 3 levels per extra point of EP ). Since Ziggy requires 23 points of EP, as a fair comparison, let us say that he will require approximately 1,300 Tech Points. Do yourself a favour and try not to increase EP more than it has to be. Honestly, getting away with maxed EP for less than 1,500 Tech Points is really fair, and an extremely good deal. As mentioned earlier, EP can not be increased to odd numbers, therefore, if a character does NOT have 98 EP before their final point to EP is factored in, they will be permanently stuck at 98 EP. Everybody's last point of EP occurs at level 96. Making sure you have 98 EP before then will guarantee you 99 EP. Simple as that. ASSESSMENT : Max EP : 99 T.Pts Required : ~1,300 ======================[ Maxing Str, Vit, EAtk and EDef ] --------------------------------[ 08.05.00 ] Since the core stats can be increased to match anybody else's and there's really no trick to it, I don't really have any specific instructions, though I'll still list the potential maximums for each stat : STRENGTH : Ziggy has the highest STARTING value ( not level 1 value ) of Strength, which is 25. There are also 402 points of Strength to be gained through level-ups; Therefore, the highest possible Strength value in the game is 427. VITALITY : Ziggy has the highest STARTING value ( not level 1 value ) of Vitality, which is 22. There are also 413 points of Vitality to be gained through level-ups: Therefore, the highest possible Vitality value in the game is 425. ETHER ATTACK : Jr. has the highest STARTING value ( not level 1 value ) of Ether Attack, which is 27. There are also 417 points of Ether Attack to be gained through level-ups; Therefore, the highest possible Ether Attack value in the game is 444. ETHER DEFENSE : chaos has the highest STARTING value ( not level 1 value ) of Ether Defense; which is 26. There are also 420 points of Ether Defense to be gained through level-ups; Therefore, the highest possible Ether Defense in the game is 446. ASSESSMENT : Max Strength : 427 T.Pts Required : ~121,000 Max Vitality : 425 T.Pts Required : ~120,000 Max Ether Attack : 444 T.Pts Required : ~125,000 Max Ether Defense : 446 T.Pts Required : ~124,000 ===========================[ Maxing Dex and Eva ] --------------------------------[ 08.06.00 ] Dexterity and Evasion are, without a doubt, the easiest statistics to max out in the game. Like EP, the maximum one can obtain in either of these statistics is 99. Unlike EP, however, is that each statistic can be increased 1 point at a time, making it much easier to max them out with the minimal amount of monitoring and effort possible. At the very worst, MOMO will require 7 points to Dexterity, and 5 points to Evasion to hold the maximum for either stat. At which point, it is easy to play catch-up with her. ASSESSMENT : Max Dexterity : 99 T.Pts Required : ~600 Max Evasion : 99 T.Pts Required : ~300 ****FINAL NOTE**** In total, you're looking at spending approximately 852,200 Tech Points to obtain these potential maximum stats. =========================[ Tech Point Ratio Guide ]=========================== --------------------------------[ 09.00.00 ]---------------------------------- This section of the guide is meant to help you decide exactly where you want/need to go next in order to increase those stats of yours between level-ups. Obviously, later in the game, when it costs 50,000+ Experience, levelling up in the first Encephalon : KOS-MOS simulator would just be redundant and unnecessary, since you'd completely sync your characters six years before you could level-up. The whole point being, you want to avoid levelling when you have to, and avoid monotonous battles when you've synced and all that's left to do is level-up. I'm not going to bother listing Ether Point or Skill Point specifications for each monster either, because Ether Points are easy as hell to come about, and you should honestly never find yourself running low on them. Even better, a single hour in even the Encephalon : KOS-MOS Simulator can net you enough Ether Points to teach Shion every single Ability she has on her Ether Tree. Lastly, before going into this section, know that I used the Brady Games guide as a reference for this, and double-checked all of my numbers with Split Infinity's FAQ. Yeah, yeah, I know, Brady Games...*slaps wrist* Therefore, if you find any mistakes with the Tech Points or Experience I've listed, feel free to tear into me like a Monkey on a Tangerine. =====================[ Encephalon : KOS-MOS Simulator ] --------------------------------[ 09.01.00 ] Now, technically, the Drones in the tutorial battles give out the best Tech point ratios in the entire game, but since you are limited to only Shion and KOS-MOS, and the enemy cannot kill you, those points are severely wasted. For the record, they seem to have exactly 4 Experience, and 2 Tech Points per character. Assuming we have both Shion and KOS-MOS alive, and kill them on a x2 modifier, that is a 100% ratio. Which is a damned shame. On to the listing : BEFORE DRONE SPX IS KILLED : Drone M : 00,007 Exp, 002 T.Pts = 28.57% Ratio Drone F : 00,008 Exp, 002 T.Pts = 25.00% Ratio Attack Drone : 00,013 Exp, 004 T.Pts = 30.77% Ratio If you're going to kill enemies before killing the Drone SPX, kill the automated mechs. And make sure to use Shion's Square + Triangle attack to kill them faster. AFTER DRONE SPX IS KILLED : Drone G1 : 00,010 Exp, 002 T.Pts = 20.00% Ratio Drone G2 : 00,008 Exp, 002 T.Pts = 25.00% Ratio Drone G3 : 00,020 Exp, 004 T.Pts = 20.00% Ratio While it's not as efficient to kill Drone G2s repeatedly, as it is to kill attack drones, you can't save before fighting the Drone SPX, and there's obviously a limit to how long you can leave your PS2 running, let alone actually be playing it. For the record, the Drone G2 enemies are the flying Gnosis. I have found that it is fastest to repeatedly exit to the south of the red cannister inside the dilapidated ruins, and repeatedly fight the set of 2 Drone G2s that appear. Free boosts make it a lot easier to guarantee killing on a Point Bonus Slot in battle. ================================[ Woglinde ] --------------------------------[ 09.02.00 ] Goblin : 00,040 Exp, 006 T.Pts = 15.00% Ratio Gremlin : 00,050 Exp, 003 T.Pts = 6.00% Ratio Manticore : 00,030 Exp, 003 T.Pts = 10.00% Ratio Golem : 00,110 Exp, 008 T.Pts = 7.27% Ratio As you can see, while you're levelling up a lot faster than you would be in the Encephalon : KOS-MOS Simulator, you're gaining MARGINALLY greater Tech Points. The trade-off isn't worth it at all. I would avoid fighting in this area as much as possible. Fly through it during the main story. Lingering here is just crippling your maximum statistics. ================================[ Pleroma ] --------------------------------[ 09.03.00 ] U-Tic Soldier A : 00,030 Exp, 002 T.Pts = 6.67% Ratio U-Tic Soldier B : 00,040 Exp, 002 T.Pts = 5.00% Ratio U-Tic Soldier X : 00,030 Exp, 002 T.Pts = 6.67% Ratio Cyber Crab : 00,050 Exp, 004 T.Pts = 8.00% Ratio Gardis F10 : 00,036 Exp, 002 T.Pts = 5.56% Ratio Case in point, this place is HORRIBLE for gaining Tech Points, mainly when you first arrive here. Experience is far too high for such a low level ( levels 5 ~ 10 ). Do yourself a favour and fly through this area as fast as you can. Ignore the Mercurio who is holding Decoder 04; he's basically empty Experience for low-levelled characters, and you can come back with a higher levelled party to get it, and subsequently, the Thief Ring. Furthermore, you want to minimize the amount of Experience you're getting, since you don't actually have to beat Margulis to escape Pleroma...but even if you decide to ( since he's worth a lot of Gold for beating him ), you shouldn't be shooting for his Rare drop, the Purple Ring; as a matter of fact, the Red Ring costs 600g, and the Purple Ring costs 300g. I'd much rather get a free Red Ring, wouldn't you? No Thief Ring = less chance of rare drop = free Red Ring = less Gold to have to spend later. =========================[ Elsa : U-Tic Invasion ] --------------------------------[ 09.04.00 ] DOMO A : 00,080 Exp, 008 T.Pts = 10.00% Ratio DOMO B : 00,090 Exp, 008 T.Pts = 8.89% Ratio This is a decent place to boost Tech Points, but only after you've exhausted your resources in both the Encephalon : KOS-MOS Simulator, AND the Woglinde, via the E.V.S. However, when you do get to this sequence, STAY here. Use the E.V.S. to go back to those two previous areas and boost your Tech Points like crazy. When you can afford to level-up in between increasing stats, THEN use this area to level-up. It's the best place you'll get for a while to get enough Tech Points AND experience points to level-up and sync at a relatively decent pace. ============================[ U-Tic Battleship ] --------------------------------[ 09.05.00 ] U-Tic Soldier A : 00,030 Exp, 002 T.Pts = 6.67% Ratio U-Tic Soldier B : 00,050 Exp, 006 T.Pts = 12.00% Ratio Cyber Crab : 00,050 Exp, 004 T.Pts = 8.00% Ratio Gardis M1 : 00,350 Exp, 010 T.Pts = 2.86% Ratio Gardis F10 : 00,036 Exp, 002 T.Pts = 5.56% Ratio Zolfo B : 00,200 Exp, 018 T.Pts = 9.00% Ratio Again, just fly through this area. You're only stuck here once with Jr., but make sure you get that U-Tic Card, and use that to open the door for access to Decoder 16, or else it's gone forever, thanks to an infamous glitch later in the game. =============================[ Cathedral Ship ] --------------------------------[ 09.06.00 ] Cerberus : 00,320 Exp, 008 T.Pts = 2.50% Ratio Fairy : 00,100 Exp, 003 T.Pts = 3.00% Ratio Ogre : 00,380 Exp, 012 T.Pts = 3.16% Ratio Hydra : 00,200 Exp, 005 T.Pts = 2.50% Ratio Lizardman : 00,260 Exp, 010 T.Pts = 3.85% Ratio Unicorn : 00,600 Exp, 016 T.Pts = 2.67% Ratio Ew. With nothing over 4% as a ratio, this place is no good for stat-maxing. In fact, you'd be much better off dodging everything IN this place, and making sure before hand that you deck out your A.G.W.S. like crazy to take out the boss with as little lingering in this area as possible. You'll gain so many empty levels going through this area, that you'll waste a good solid 30 extra points to each stat. ==========================[ Encephalon : Miltia ] --------------------------------[ 09.07.00 ] Before starting this scenario, you'll actually be on the Durandal with a few soldier-type enemies to take on...and if your characters are below level 30, don't fight Great Joe ( optional boss ). I mean, it's easy to take him out before level 20, but he gives out 18,000 Experience, which is 6000 per living character if you survive, with all three characters in tact, and 4,500 per reserve. Hell, if you kill him and only one person survives, that's 18,000 to ONE character, and 13,500 Experience to the three reserves. That's way too much Experience to get before level 40. Anyways, here's the list of enemies on the Durandal ( keep in mind that once you pass through the Durandal, and move into the Encephalon, these enemies are permanently unavailable ) : Fed. Soldier A : 00,180 Exp, 006 T.Pts = 3.33% Ratio Fed. One thing to consider about this area is that Bugbears are in possession of the "Tech Upgrade A" item. While this is only worth 10 Tech Points, it is entirely possible to steal from him, and then escape the battle, giving you 0 Exp. The Larva Faces give a significantly lower ratio, however, so it might be in your best interest to flee after killing all of the Larva Dolls, which will cause the roaming figure on the explorative map to remain, allowing you to kill them infinitely. As a final note, Wyrms are a LIMITED encounter. There is, however, a loophole; Azazel's Rare Item is a Tech Upgrade S. A good strategy would be to start the battle with MOMO with under 25% of her Max HP, as well as "Magic Caster" in the Hi and Low Triangle Slots. For good measure, equip her with the White Ring, and the AGL+1 Skill. After starting the battle, have her transform. Then, on her next turn, perform a Triangle, Circle, Circle combination, which will result in her stealing an Ether Pack DX ( which sells for 120g ) and a Tech Upgrade S. Escape with either an Escape Pack ( which costs 10g ), or the Goodbye Ether, and repeat, ad infinitum. You'll be able to support your Tech Point requirements 5 times as efficiently as you would were you stealing from Bugbears, and you should be able to increase stats every 2 to 4 battles for a single character. Granted, this is extremely monotonous, but it is a much better alternative to fighting in the Encephalon : KOS-MOS simulator, or Woglinde, but once you reach approximately level 40, you should be exclusively fighting for Tech Points in the first area of the Encephalon : Miltia when E.V.S. diving. Either way, it's up to how you want to do it, but if you're going to shoot for the projected maximum statistics listed in article [ 08.00.00 ], there's pretty much no way to avoid the techniques which will net you free Tech Points. =================================[ Bosses ] --------------------------------[ 09.11.00 ] For the record, anything with a tilde ( ~ ) next to its name, is an enemy that is found only in a boss-battle ( yes, even the Sky Fish,; the ones found in the Encephalon : Miltia have entirely different statistics ), or is usually a companion to that enemy. No matter if you only kill the first version, or both, you will always gain 12,000 Exp, and 180 Tech Points ( unless killed on a point bonus slot ). You will not gain both amounts. =======================[ Observations and Discussion ] --------------------------------[ 09.12.00 ] With all of that considered, now one must discover exactly what kind of path they should take with Statistic Maximising. First, let us consider this; If an enemy gives out 10% of their Experience Points in Tech Points, such as a Domo A, for instance ( 80 Experience, 8 Tech Points ), then you can effectively double their ratio by killing them on a Point Bonus Modifier turn in battle. Automatically, the ratios that are listed, DOUBLE. You are guaranteed to get at least 2x the amount of Tech Points and the same amount of Experience. If you can kill an enemy on a Point Bonus Modifier and get a x4 or x10 modifier, you have increased the ratio by 4 or 10, respectively. This means that the Domo A will always give out 20% Tech Points, or even 40% or 100% on occasion. This effect is much greater on enemies with a higher ratio. A boss will always give out a much lower ratio of Experience than the enemies that occupy the same area. Therefore, the tremendous Experience given by a boss makes the Tech Points they drop, almost completely wasted. Do NOT, ever, settle for a x2 modifier on a Boss. There is a 65% chance to gain a x2 Modifier, and a 30% chance to gain a x4 Modifier. Consider a 5% chance to gain a x10 Modifier luck, under extreme circumstances. Resetting and killing a boss 3 to 4 times to ensure a x4 Modifier is not that much trouble, considering people new to the game who have difficulty with bosses will have to reset the console that many times ( or more ), simply due to the boss being too hard. An experienced player should have no troubles whatsoever, let alone a player who knows how to optimize their characters' statistics. Now, let us consider the continual degradation of Tech Point drops over time. It is plain to see that in the Encephalon : KOS-MOS Simulator, enemies have the absolute highest Tech Point Ratios in the game, aside from enemies in the opening tutorial battles who can only be fought before the first save point in the game becomes available. Because of this, as soon as the E.V.S. becomes available to you, you should take advantage of using it. For levels between 10 ~ 15, Experience is required in the range of 1,210 ~ 2,560. While experience dropped does not exceed 14 points per character, it is easy to remain here for a long time between levelling up. Statistics in that range should not cost more than 60 ~ 140 Tech Points, ( aside from HP, whose cost is astronomical as it is ). So let's say we kill the pair of Drone G1 enemies that appear near a Red Cannister in the dilapidated building of the Encephalon : KOS-MOS Simulator. They drop [ 8 * 2 / 3 ] = 5 Experience per character, and [ 2 * Mod / 3 ] per Drone, per character. This essentially means they can give out as little as 5 Experience and 2 Tech Points, or as high as 5 Experience and 13 Tech Points. In the worst case scenario, it will require 242 battles to level up from level 10, to level 11, and it will require 30 battles to increase a single statistic ( at their average cost per that level ). This gives us ( 242 / 30 ) = 8 chances to increase statistics between level 10 and level 11. Which should be fairly consistent throughout the levels to come. And don't forget, that's if you ONLY get x2 Point Bonus Modifiers in every battle, not including the fairly regular chances to get x4, and the odd time that you get x10. For characters playing catch-up, to sync all stats, 8 bonuses to stats per level is incredible. If you keep this up for 5 levels, it is possible to upgrade stats 40 times!! Now, you'll notice that when characters are perfectly synced, they will only be able to increase stats about 5 to 6 times per level, because their MAXIMUM statistics should be increasing by the number of people syncing in that timeframe, which is generally 3, however some characters can boost almost every statistic by 1 each level. If, for instance, we could bump the maximum for every statistic ONCE, every time another character levels up, this is a total of 8 * 6, or 4
