 1) Introduction [INTRO]

===============================================================================

The Warriors Orochi 2 weapon system is all about fusing collected weapons into
implements of mass destruction. Weapon elements will be familiar to Orochi
fans. This installment brings further customization in the form of upgrade
skills, which are crafted from spare weapons and used to improve your arms
 collection even further.

This guide is intended for newcomers to the series and those already familiar
with pimping out their equipment. It covers a variety of material from the
basics of fusion to weapon maximization.

 2) Elements [ELEMENTS]

===============================================================================

Unchanged from Warriors Orochi, these enhancements are randomly found on
weapons and replaced or leveled up via weapon fusion. They add various
special effects, such as fire, guard breaking, or increased reach. A weapon
can contain up to 8 elements, with a maximum level of 10 for each.

Unless the weapon includes the Almighty (V) upgrade skill, elements only
activate during charge attacks or certain R1 specials. Some characters'
multi-hit charges are fully elemental, whereas other such charges only
activate elements on one or more particular strikes.

Element recommendations are written with weapon maximization in mind. A
maximized weapon has the highest attack power possible while being practical
for a character to use during long stints of solo gameplay. All the oomph in
the world won't do much good if the character keeps getting interrupted or
can't maintain a healthy musou supply for specials.

To maximize a weapon, load it up with all attack boosters effective for that
character's move set. Replace attack boosters with support elements as
 needed.

If maximization isn't important to you, just go with whatever elements are the
most fun to play with. You might enjoy juggling fiery enemies or freezing
your foes. Range and Agility can make it easier to set up and continue
 combos.

_______________________________________________________________________________

    Flame Attack Booster
_______________________________________________________________________________

Sets the enemy on fire. As long as they're airborne, they will continue to
burn. If Ice is present, there is a 50% chance that either element will
 activate.

                    ________________________________________

The burn rate pales in comparison to damage from other attack boosters.
Unless you have a spare slot and nothing else better, don't bother.

_______________________________________________________________________________

 X Ice Attack Booster
_______________________________________________________________________________

Has a 40% chance of freezing the enemy for 4 seconds. Extra damage done to a
frozen target increases with the element level, up to 1.6x at level 10.

                    ________________________________________

Between the low freeze rate and unimpressive additional damage, most
characters are best off with a more reliable attack booster. Ice is
especially poor for technique types because it prevents their critical hit
damage on airborne targets. Techs can't land critical hits on something that
 is frozen to the ground.

_______________________________________________________________________________

    Bolt Attack Booster
_______________________________________________________________________________

Increases damage to the target. Tends to drop the target down nearby instead
of letting them fall, scatter, or get knocked back as they usually would.
Chains to surrounding enemies. This chain lightning effect widens the
attack's effective reach and can produce amplified collateral damage in large
 peon crowds.

                    ________________________________________

A must for most. There are a very few attacks, such as Okuni's C4 umbrella
bounce, that won't land all hits correctly with Bolt because of the way it
affects targets' movement after a hit.

_______________________________________________________________________________

 z Flash Attack Booster
_______________________________________________________________________________

Breaks enemies' guard and does additional damage, up to 1.3x at level 10. The
chance of guard break increases with the element level. At level 10, Flash
 will always work.

                    ________________________________________

 Get this.

_______________________________________________________________________________

 a Slay Attack Booster
_______________________________________________________________________________

Consider this to be a death or vorpal element. Has up to a 25% chance of
killing a peon instantly. Against officers, takes a certain percentage of the
enemy's health. This percentage increases with the element level.

                    ________________________________________

 Essential.

_______________________________________________________________________________

 z Drain Support Element
_______________________________________________________________________________

Restores an amount of health proportionate to the damage done.

                    ________________________________________

Only consider Drain if you need it to survive and the character has attacks
that make efficient use of it. The Adrenalin ability (A) is generally
better. However, some characters tend to lose health over time, even with
skilled gameplay. Drain can also be a helpful safety net for high
 difficulty battles.

_______________________________________________________________________________

 z Absorb Support Element
_______________________________________________________________________________

Restores an amount of musou proportionate to the damage done.

                    ________________________________________

Useful for characters with efficient musou drain-back and an offense based on
musou-consuming specials. For instance, Cao Ren's C2-ex and C3-ex are his
most powerful attacks. They also drain back well. With Absorb, he can keep a
healthy musou supply and spam these charges at will.

Characters who infrequently use low-cost musou-consuming specials, such as Lu
Meng with his fire bullets, should take the Supremacy () upgrade skill
 instead of Absorb.

_______________________________________________________________________________

 jV Air Attack Booster
_______________________________________________________________________________

Increases damage to airborne targets. This includes juggled enemies and foes
hit by a scattering attack from a technique character who also has Bolt
equipped. Technique types incur critical hits on lifted targets. For reasons
observed but not yet well known, Bolt allows the full force of Air and
critical hits to kick in against scattered enemies.

                    ________________________________________

As a rule of thumb, technique characters should equip Air. For other types
compatible with Bolt and Multi, Air is the least important attack booster.
It's good to include, but drop it first if you need room for a support
 element.

_______________________________________________________________________________

 E Brave Attack Booster
_______________________________________________________________________________

Increases damage to officers, up to 1.4x at level 10 (and up to 2x with level
 10 Might).

                    ________________________________________

Highly recommended if Might has already been included. Hooray for synergy.

_______________________________________________________________________________

  Range Support Element
_______________________________________________________________________________

Increases the reach of the character's weapon, adding 10% of the normal reach
per element level. Maximum reach is 2x (100% additional) at level 10. Has
little effect on most punches and kicks, such as Meng Huo's attacks, or small
weapons like Oichi's kendama. Has no effect on attacks that don't strike with
the actual weapon, such as energy waves and firepower.

                    ________________________________________

Recommended for characters who gain noticeable reach and have improved offense
or defense with that extra reach. For the most part, Power types don't need
Range for safety because they can Leeroy Jenkins through crowds without losing
 a lot of health.

_______________________________________________________________________________

 g Multi Attack Booster
_______________________________________________________________________________

Creates illusions that strike the enemy for 0.1x damage. Each illusion
carries elements. Depending on the attack, Multi can fling the enemy far
away. Has no effect on attacks that don't strike with the actual weapon.

                    ________________________________________

Often useful but not always desirable. In some cases, Multi can mess up
combo timing or push targets out of the way early so they won't be hit by the
later strikes of a repeatedly hitting charge attack. It can also send enemies
flying so the character needs to chase them a while for a follow-up attack.
Sometimes it is faster to use an extra charge attack against a target than it
is to run all the way after a target in between Multi-imbued strikes.

_______________________________________________________________________________

 _ Agility Support Element
_______________________________________________________________________________

Increases attack speed, adding 10% of the normal speed per element level.
Maximum speed is 2x at level 10. Too much Agility can unwantedly move the
strike point of certain charge attacks. Most strike point bugs have been
fixed since WO, but a few stragglers remain. Agility overload can also
decrease Multi damage because not all of the clones will hit.

                    ________________________________________

Consider this for characters who tend to get interrupted during their charge
attack execution. Agility also decreases ending lag to some extent.
Depending on the character, the Stability (拭) or Highflier ()
upgrade skills might solve their slowness issues and leave an open spot for
 another weapon element.

_______________________________________________________________________________

 Ɉ Might Attack Booster
_______________________________________________________________________________

Increases attack power, up to 1.4x at level 10.

                    ________________________________________

Incredibly handy. What are you waiting for?

_______________________________________________________________________________

 w Rage Attack Booster
_______________________________________________________________________________

Increases damage as the character's health decreases. Maximum is 2x at level
10 with health in the red zone.

                    ________________________________________

This element can be interesting for experimental purposes, like a specialty
weapon for KO'ing Orochi X in a single charge. It is not practical for
standard gameplay. Kunoichi, the only character who can consistently survive
in red health, kills fast enough already that it isn't worthwhile to be one
 mistake away from death.

 3) Upgrade Skills [UPGRADES]

===============================================================================

New in Warriors Orochi 2, upgrade skills are additional power-ups for weapons.
Up to three can be added to a weapon. Upgrade skills are unlocked by finding
treasures in battle and made out of spare weapons with specific combinations
 of elements.

Search for an upgrade skill's index key to jump ahead to the details of which
treasures unlock it and which elements are needed to create it. To look up
the unlocking instructions for a treasure, search for the treasure number in
 brackets, e.g. [#0]

This specifically applies to arrows and certain bullets. For instance, it

with strong staple attacks that see a significant damage increase with this
upgrade. Some projectiles get little to no improvement from Firepower.

Think of this as the Charge Bracer item from the Dynasty Warriors games. If
you are hit during a charge attack, you won't be interrupted, but you will get
hurt if the enemy's attack power is high enough.

This is great for non-Power type characters with planted charges, such as Cao
Ren and his C3. It can also be used as a substitute for Agility if the
character's main problem is getting interrupted during the charge attack.

 some cases.

Just plain awesome. Resolve applies to both arrows and bullets and prevents
characters from flinching at any time, not just while attacking. Apart from
being an occasional nuisance while you're on horseback, firepower becomes
largely irrelevant. Unless you have an early high-priority attack for taking
out firepower, this is a must-buy.

Yep. It's the infamous win button. Almighty will apply to standard attacks,
running attacks, R1 specials, and various non-elemental charge attack strikes.
Certain charges that do not normally activate weapon elements will not be
affected. This varies from character to character. Of course, musou-
consuming R1 specials will not be Almighty unless you have temporary
 infinite musou at the time.

The Agility element can speed up regular attacks to a point at which charges
may be difficult to pull off. If this becomes a problem, limit or remove
 Agility.

 4) Treasures [TREASURES]

===============================================================================

Collect treasures to unlock various upgrade skills. When you meet the
treasure requirements in battle, you will see a valuable item report with a
marked location. Go to that location and look for a fancy colored box, which
will either be mostly purple or black and gold. Break the box, pick up the
item inside, and complete the battle.

Battle log message spam can sometimes delay a treasure report. If you met the
requirements and the report hasn't shown up, wait around and see if it does.

Once you obtain a treasure, it's yours for good. They are not used up in the
 process of making upgrade skills.

When known, actual time limits are listed as a requirement. Approximate time
limits verified by myself and others are given as a guideline.

In some cases, all the requirements must be taken care of by one player.
Requirements known to have this limitation are noted. In general, if you are
having trouble getting an item on 2-player mode, have the same person defeat
all of the specific enemies listed in the unlocking conditions - officers,
sorcerers, etc. If that doesn't work, try it on 1-player. I obtained all the
 treasures by myself.

them if you really want to, but leave at least one around for the fire
attack. (If you take them all out, the attack will be canceled.) Xiahou
Yuan will wander to the center and eventually set the place on fire. Keep

rest of the enemy generals will probably get hung up fighting your allies

Get close enough, and the officers will follow you around. It's okay to

Another reason to ignore optional enemies - closing too many checkpoints
seems to cause a red checkpoint in the north to spew peons by the boatload

 Recommended Method -----------------------------------------------------------

There's a big clump of officers north of your main camp. Kill them all.
This takes care of the first assault.

From here, you need to ensure that Sakon Shima makes it up to the northeast

his journey, various enemies will show up to bother him, including Sun
Wukong. Kiyomori Taira will also send more baddies toward your main camp -
first cavalry, then ninjas. To stop each assault, get rid of the enemies
marked on your map with red dots. Or let your allies take care of them.

Basically, run around and kill things wherever you need to. At some point,
Kiyomori Taira sets the middle of the map on fire. You won't be able to do
anything about it until Nobunaga Oda arrives with his epic yellow army of

 Requirements -----------------------------------------------------------------

    - Your team cannot include both Da Ji and Orochi. (It's OK to have one or
      the other.)
    - Teleport the enemy commanders into the west enemy supply base within 10
minutes of the start of battle by defeating Mitsuhide Akechi and
      escorting sorcerers into the base.
    - After the sorcerers cast their spell, defeat Ranmaru Mori, Nagayoshi
Mori (X), Koroku Hachisuka (I{ꏬZ), and Morimasa Sakuma
      (vԐ).

 Recommended Method -----------------------------------------------------------

To capture the supply base, you'll need to escort some sorcerers over to it
and protect them until they summon your commanders. This can be a pain
because the sorcerers stop to fight anything and everything. Not only
that, they don't always travel the same route each time. They sometimes
get separated from each other as well. Luckily, you're good to go as long
as one makes it over to the base in time.

Bring a good crowd clearer and a fast means of travel. I suggest Sun
Wukong because you won't need to keep getting on and off a horse, and he
can jump charge over the annoying cliffs in this area.

There may be an additional time limit for defeating Ranmaru and his
buddies. To be certain, finish all the requirements within 13:00 of the
    start of battle.

The sorcerers will appear about 2 minutes into battle. Knowing this,
you may wish to preemptively clear out as much of the south and west path
as you can. Obliterate crowds, seal gates, and rush ahead to trigger enemy
    ambushes.

When the sorcerers show up, give them a hand. You'll have to crowd clear
to keep them safe and focused on task (rather than distracted by every
blasted red dot nearby). Whenever possible, rush ahead to seal gates and
then backtrack for more babysitting. You may want to save halfway through
in case the sorcerers decide to wander off somewhere or get killed.

At the base, just kill like crazy to keep the sorcerers alive. When the
doors open, defeat Mitsuhide Akechi and pals. The sorcerers may stand
outside until a nearby generic wanders over to say hi. If this happens,
take him out quickly and keep on crowd clearing.

If all goes well, the sorcerers will head into the base and work their
magic before 10 minutes have passed. After your commanders teleport,
Ranmaru will advance. Defeat him, Nagayoshi Mori, and Koroku Hachisuka.

 Requirements -----------------------------------------------------------------

    - Take out Sima Yi and the two sorcerers.
    - Open the enemy camp gates within 6 minutes of the start of battle.
    - Defeat Da Ji and Himiko within 2 minutes of the gates opening.

 Recommended Method -----------------------------------------------------------

This is another fun one because the time limit is tight and officers love
to chat it up and cause message spam. Try pausing during conversations to
save time. Other than that, there's no shame in bringing an overpowered
team and playing on an easier difficulty setting. As usual, Sun Wukong is
    recommended for his travel speed.

                    ________________________________________

Taigong Wang will warp to the gate and begin his preparations as soon as
you defeat all of the officers in the center, including Masamune Date and
some friends who show up later on. Thus, you want to wipe out everyone
on the map and be nearby when Masamune makes his grand entrance. It is
possible to get the treasure without defeating Masamune, but it's probably
easier to just take him out.

With that in mind, head west and bump off the lowermost snake officer guy
before he goes too far south. Run up and defeat Sima Yi. Work your way
east, killing enemy generals as you see them. When the sorcerers show up,
get rid of them as it is convenient to do so. You must defeat them
yourself, no ally kill stealing allowed, but it should be okay to leave
them alone for a few moments if a nearby officer needs some punishment.

If Masamune Date hasn't already brought his entourage, hang out at the
northeast checkpoint and wait for him. Get rid of Date and his pals to set
    Taigong Wang's plan in motion.

If all went according to plan, Taigong Wang will be opening the gate before
6 minutes have passed. Rush Da Ji and Himiko.

    Rejoice.

    - Lead the 3-way attack.
    - Take out Masamune Date and Keiji Maeda.
    - Defeat Himiko immediately after she shows up.

Do not let any allies be defeated.

 Recommended Method -----------------------------------------------------------

Once again, you need to haul and kick some serious ass. Take Sun Wukong
and, if needed, some overpowered characters who can defeat officers in one
    quick combo.

I recommend normal or hard mode so that your allies can take some damage
without being punching bags. Allies tend to die on chaos, even if you kill
    at warp speed.

Speaking of which, don't get too crazy with the killing. You don't want to
accrue too much praise message spam and delay any of the events.

There are time limits for leading the 3-way attack and defeating Himiko.
To be certain, trigger the 3-way attack within 10 minutes of the start of
battle, and take out Himiko within 1:40 after she appears.

                    ________________________________________

Kill the generic officer on your way to the south castle.

Bump off the two officers outside the castle.

Defeat a defense captain to open the door. Inside the castle, beat
    Masamune Date and his pal.

Head up north using the second path from the left of the map. This path
contains the empty bases that your allies will advance into. Clear out all
generals and close all checkpoints along the way.

Get rid of the officers in the northwest fort.

Head east and intercept Keiji Maeda before he gets too close to your
allies. Take out the nearby generic as well.

Your next priority is ensuring that the 3-way attack succeeds. Crowd clear
and close any open checkpoints along the corridor where your allies are
advancing. DON'T DO ANYTHING ELSE. As mentioned earlier, you don't want
to mess things up with battle log spam. You also need to avoid the right
side of the map. If you defeat any officers there, the three-way attack
    will fail.

You will see messages as each general reaches their destination base. If
all goes well, Cao Cao will say something and the three attacking
officers will flash on the map. Orochi X's officers will then flash with
    an unhappy message.

Time to move. Run, Forrest, Run and get rid of all the officers that just
flashed on your map. Save the southeastern enemies for last. Himiko will
show up on the road leading south out of Orochi X's main camp, and you
want to be nearby when she makes her grand entrance.

After you kill his dudes, Orochi X will get peeved and show you the most
fugly face ever. An entire convention of minions will appear, including
Himiko. You know what to do.

Don't be tempted by the fun assortment of officers in the middle of the

Kill one of the snake officer guys guarding a gate below Orochi X's

 5) Obtaining Weapons [WEAPONS]

===============================================================================

Weapons are acquired from boxes dropped by certain officers in each battle.
The quality of weapon (base level and elements that it contains) depends on
the difficulty setting and star rating of the battle. For better weapons,
play tougher battles on higher difficulty. The Karma ability (^㏸) helps.

To get 4th weapons, play 3-star or above hard mode battles or any chaos mode
battle. My favorite 4th weapon farm is SW 1, chaos mode. It's short and
easy and has four officers with weapon boxes - Goemon Ishikawa and generics in
the upper right, center, and lower left of the map. Wei 1 on chaos is another
 favorite.

===============================================================================

 6) Fusing Weapons [FUSION_HOWTO]

===============================================================================

To improve a weapon via fusion, you need a spare weapon for the same character
with elements, extra slots, upgrade skills, or attack power to add. This
spare weapon will be consumed in the process. You also require enough growth
points to pay for the fusion. To get growth points quickly, equip the Acclaim
ability (ol) and play through any battle with a ton of officers and
peons. Wu 4 is good for this, or try Wei 5 for variety.

 1. Within the Customize Weapon menu (Z), select Weapon Fusion (the
    middle option).

 2. Select the weapon to improve.

 3. Select the spare weapon with elements or upgrade skills that you wish to
    transfer.

 4. Pick your improvements.

Whenever you select an element, you will need to specify a slot for it.
This can be an empty space or an existing element that you want to replace.
If you're adding more slots, they will only be available after the fusion
is complete. Therefore, you can only place elements in the spaces that the
    weapon already has.

Upgrade skills can be transferred for free (no GP cost). If the spare
weapon has any upgrade skills, press Left or Right on the element list menu
    to get a listing.

 5. Confirm the fusion.

 7) Creating and Attaching Upgrade Skills [UPGRADE_HOWTO]

===============================================================================
 Creating Upgrade Skills
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In order to create an upgrade skill, you must have unlocked it by finding
certain treasures. You also need a spare weapon with a specific combination
of elements. The element requirements are a minimum, not an exact match. If
the weapon has additional elements or element levels, it can still be used.

 1. Within the Customize Weapon menu (Z), select Upgrade Skills (the top
    option).

 2. Select the upgrade skill you wish to create. You can only select an upgrade
skill if you have the required treasures and at least one weapon with the
correct element combination. Upgrade skills that you can create are
highlighted. The rest are grayed out.

 3. Select the spare weapon to use up. As with the upgrade skills themselves,
    suitable weapons will be highlighted.

 4. Confirm your choice. The spare weapon will disappear and you will have
    another upgrade skill in stock.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 Attaching Upgrade Skills
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

 1. Within the Customize Weapon menu (Z), select Weapon Upgrade (the
    bottom option).

 2. Select the weapon you wish to attach an upgrade skill to.

 3. Select the upgrade skill. If this weapon already has its slots filled,
pick an upgrade skill to replace with the new one.

 4. Confirm your choice. The upgrade skill will be attached to the weapon, and
its stock will decrease by 1.

===============================================================================

 8) Frequently Asked Questions [FAQ]

===============================================================================

 Q. What all do I need to do to use [some specific upgrade skill]?

 1. Refer to the Upgrade Skills section to look up the required treasures and
    weapon elements.

 2. If you don't have all of the necessary treasures, unlock them. Refer to
the Treasures section for unlocking information.

 3. Fuse a spare weapon with the elements needed. This can be any character's
    weapon.

 4. Follow the instructions in Creating and Attaching Upgrade Skills to make an
upgrade skill and fuse it to whichever weapon you wish.

                    ________________________________________

 Q. What does the level of an upgrade skill mean?

Basically, levels are an organization scheme. Upgrade skills are arranged
within menus according to level, with each level on its own page.

The level also gives some idea of how much effort it takes to unlock and
create an upgrade skill. Lower level upgrade skills are unlocked with
treasures obtained early on, and they don't need much in the way of weapon
elements. Higher level upgrade skills require later and/or more difficult
treasures and several elements on the spare weapon.

And that's it. There are no level-related restrictions on which upgrade
skills you can attach to a weapon.

                    ________________________________________

 Q. How do I know what treasures I have?

Within the Customize Weapon menu (Z), select Upgrade Skills (the top
option). Press circle (PS2) or B (XBox 360) for a full list of treasures.
The ones you already obtained will be highlighted.

                    ________________________________________

 Q. What on earth are ingredients, enchantments, and crafting items?

Those are terms that were used for treasures and upgrade skills before the
 official English terminology was available.

Ingredients and crafting items are treasures.

 Enchantments are upgrade skills.
