Version History 2.6 (04/03/2007): Wow. Almost a year has gone by since I last updated this FAQ. Read through some of my strategies for the Story Mode Missions section and decided to make some changes. To be specific, Mission 68: Sneak Attack. Also, reworked the contents section above for neatness and organization. Finally, cleaned up the Contact Information and Copyright Information sections for easy (?) reading. Not much by the way of additional content, but an update nonetheless. Expect corrections in the In-Game Codes section following in the next update. 2.5 (05/11/2006): Cleaned up some grammatical / spelling errors in Weapons List and Damage Amounts, and General Game Tips sections. 2.4 (04/04/2006): Forgot to mention how to recognize if an In-Game Code was properly inputted, so I threw that in. 2.3 (03/16/2006): Added 1up.com to End / Credits and Copyright Information sections. Finished the In-Game Codes section (for now) with codes that I found. This section will be subject to change as some of the codes may not work. 2.2 (03/13/2006): FINALLY finished the Character Profiles / Statistics section. In-Game Codes section will come with the next update. 2.1 (02/28/2006): Another long break from updating this FAQ. Starting up again with more additions to section 9 still to come. With the revelation of in-game codes for Urban Reign (why they were found out so late is still a mystery to me) I have decided to put the codes that I know of in a separate section (for the readers' convenience). 2.0 (12/14/2005): Inputted more statistics of the following characters: Miguel, Ramon, Jose, Emilio, Reggie, Zach, Colin, Park, BK, Grave Digga', Bones, Booma, Busta, Spider, Pain Killah, KG, Kelly, Golem, Bain, and Cooper. Inputted the profiles of Jake, Tong Yoon, and Chris. Added some notes to the Weapons List and Damage Amounts section. 1.9 (12/07/2005): Decided that the Free Mode Section would be too repetitive (since general strategies are listed in Section 10) and removed the section from the FAQ. Added notes to Section 11 (Weapons List). Changed the Introduction to the Story of Urban Reign into a recap of the first chapter of the game. 1.8 (12/05/2005): Added LESTODANTE, a GameFAQs member, to the credits part of the FAQ. Also added in LESTODANTE's corrections to the Status Effects Special Arts Types section and additions to the Basic Controls section. 1.7 (12/02/2005): Took a long break from updating this FAQ. Made slight additions to the Story Mode Missions section. Started up a section on Free Mode. 1.6 (11/16/2005): Made a change to Dimitri Exodus's credit information, completed the character profiles of Kadonashi, Grimm, and Dwayne Davis. Completed inputting statistics for Marshall Law, William Bordin, Lilian Evans, Vera Ross, Torque, Rod, Seth, and Paul Phoenix. Completed the entire Weapons List and Damage Amounts section. Added one more tip to the General Game Tips section. Added Supercheats.com to the End / Credits and Copyright Info. sections of the FAQ. 1.5 (11/11/2005): Added more information to the Basic Controls section of the FAQ (including information from Dimitri Exodus). Added Dimitri Exodus to the End / Credits section. Removed Strategies part of Section 9 for use in an entirely separate FAQ (which will come some time in the future). Added the "Styles" of every character for Section 9, added Golem's Unlock Method, added the name of Mission 100 for Section 13, completed Shun Ying Lee's and Glen Kluger's Character Profiles. Completed inputting statistics for Jake Hudson, Nas-Tiii, Em Cee, Real Deal, Ty, Kadonashi, Tong Yoon Bulsook, Grimm, Dwayne Davis, Chris Bowman, Alex Steiner, Douglas McKinzie, Napalm 99, Lin Fong Lee, and Shinkai, and added notes about alternate outfits for Bain, Cooper, and Dwayne Davis in Section 9. Changed enlarged Title (font) of Urban Reign and made changes to Copyright Information section. 1.4 (11/09/2005): Completed inputting strategies for the remaining Story Mode missions (Missions 31-100) and added the enlarged Title of Urban Reign at the beginning of the entire FAQ. 1.3 (11/07/2005): Completed inputting the names, opponents, and descriptions of all 100 Story Mode Missions in section 13. 1.2 (11/02/2005): Completed inputting Damage Amount data for the first 11 weapons listed in section 10, completed all strategies for Missions 1-30 & 100, inserted GameFAQs member Beerky's strategies for Missions 66 & 98, completed the Basic Controls section, renamed section 4, added Cheatcc.com to the credits, and added two new sections to the FAQ: Specifying Regions and Regional Damage, and Status Effect Special Arts Types. 1.1 (10/31/2005): Completed the versus strategies of Shun Ying Lee and Glen Kluger, description information of Missions 1-70 for Story Mode, the entire General Game Tips section, strategy info. for Missions 1-10, and organized the Weapons List and Damage Amounts section. 1.0 (10/29/2005): Completed the following sections: Introduction, Why did I write this FAQ?, Statistics Key / Legend, Brad Hawk's character profile, Game Modes, End / Credits, Contact and Copyright Information. Still needs more work, however. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== 2). Introduction - Urban Reign is one of Namco's most recent masterpieces (in my opinion). In Urban Reign, many gamers will find tons of multi-player action, an extensive single-player story mode, many different characters to play as and much more. Having bought this game around the week that it came out, I immediately fell in love with its gameplay, music, graphics, characters, and just about everything else that this game has to offer. I bring to you, the reader, this FAQ in hopes that you share my interest in this game (to some degree) or at least that you have some questions about Urban Reign and are consulting this FAQ to answer them. Despite what many people say about this game, there is a lot more content to be covered in this game, so I hope you enjoy reading this FAQ and the said-content that it contains. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== 3). Why did I write this FAQ? - This game is a very good effort by Namco at making a solid multi-player fighting game. That's why I was surprised to see that no FAQs were even written for this marvelous game. Because of this and my interest in Urban Reign, I decided to write this very extensive FAQ. In it, you will find content that should answer many of the questions that you probably see in messages boards concerned with Urban Reign (which is my other inspiration for writing this FAQ/Walkthrough). =============================================================================== =============================================================================== 4). Story of Urban Reign (*SPOILER WARNING) *This section will "attempt" to briefly recap the first chapter of the story of Urban Reign in its entirety. If you are consulting this FAQ as a first-time player, DO NOT READ THIS SECTION (if you don't want the story to be spoiled)!! -"Nobody's innocent. Justice? It's an illusion. Uncertainty is the only sure thing. Uncertainty creates fear, and fear creates money. Green Harbor... just another urban labyrinth... The El Dorado, full of fear to cash in on. Gangs rush in to get their hands on that gold. But those days are over now. My name is Brad Hawk. I'm a professional. I do things my way. I answer to no one. That's why the bad guys fear me and the good ones loathe me. That's who I am." ~Brad Hawk - The story of Urban Reign takes place in Ragtown, Green Harbor. To be more specific, it takes place (primarily) in Chinatown of Green Harbor. Green Harbor is home to numerous gangs, all of whom are "vying for supremacy." The game begins with the ambush and, later, kidnap of a young man who goes by the name of KG. KG is a member of the notorious gang known as the Zaps. After the kidnapping, rumors began to surface and they suggested that Chinatown's boss, a young woman named Shun Ying Lee, was responsible for the kidnapping of KG. As luck would have it, Shun Ying Lee wss now the target of the Zaps. In order to deal with the Zaps, Shun Ying Lee went on to hire a professional brawler. Thus, the role of Brad Hawk is more clear. - Shun Ying Lee has Brad Hawk start his work by having him deal with the Zaps. Some of the first targets of Brad Hawk were Real Deal, Em Cee, Busta, and Spider, all of whom are members of the Zaps. Brad Hawk also dealt with members of Hell's Legion, a biker gang led by a man named Glen Kluger. Another gang that was beginning to feel the wrath of Shun Ying Lee, through Brad Hawk, was the Outsiders, a hispanic gang led by Miguel Estevez. Dwayne Davis, renowned leader of the Zaps, began to launch some attacks of his own against Shun Ying, in response to her hired help. Ultimately, both Brad Hawk and Shun Ying became the prime targets of just about every gang in Ragtown, Green Harbor. - Throughout all of this fighting, KG's whereabouts were still unknown to all. As Shun Ying and Brad battled through the angry mob of gang members and misfits, another gang, the Westside Gym Boxers, led by Grimm (a world- ranked boxer) shows up to join the fray. Despite the odds being stacked against Shun Ying and Brad, they managed to get through all fighters. This led to a final showdown with Dwayne. A fierce battle took place, but the end result was a downed Dwayne and a victorious Brad Hawk. Just as the fight ended, however, some trucks roll in to "greet" Shun Ying, Brad, and Dwayne. It is here that KG is finally found (beaten nearly to death). The culprits responsible for the kidnapping were from groups unknown to many other gang members of Green Harbor. All of the fighting that spawned from a simple rumor became old news with the arrival of a new threat. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== 5). Basic Game Controls / Body Regions and Damage / Status Effect SPA Types - This section deals with how to play the game (basically, the controls). Use this section if you are not too familiar with Urban Reign's gameplay. Since every attack is different for every character, putting what each command does in this section would be pretty pointless. Instead, the strategies that accompany each character profile in section 7 will cover what SOME of these moves do (not all of them are important). This is a general list of the moves common among every Urban Reign character. 1. Dash: X Button *Performing a Dash while holding R1 button will result in your character running toward the locked-on opponent. 2. Taunting: L2 Button *Performing a Taunt while your opponent is stunned on the ground while result in the stunned opponent getting up from the ground (still in a stunned state). 3. Camera Movement: Right analog stick (R3) 4. Target Lock: R1 Button *Use the Target Lock in combination with Strike attacks to hit specific opponents (useful in crowds of opponents). Can also be used with the Dash to run toward a specific opponent. 5. Strike Attack: Up, Left/Right, Down + Circle Button *Using the Directional Button Up with a Strike Attack targets the Head Region of the opponent. Using the Directional Button Left/Right targets the Upper Body Region of the opponent. Using the Directional Button Down targets the Lower Body Region of the opponent. 6. Down Strike Attack: Down + Circle Button near an opponent on the ground *Some Down Strike Attacks send opponents back on their feet or mid-air. The type of attack is different for all characters. 7. Grapple Attack: Up, Left/Right, Down + Triangle Button *Using the Directional Button Up with a Grapple Attack targets the Head Region of the opponent. Using the Directional Button Left/Right targets the Upper Body Region of the opponent. Using the Directional Button Down targets the Lower Body region of the opponent. 8. Down Grapple Attack: Triangle Button near an opponent on the ground 9. Grapple Dash Attack: Triangle Button while performing a Dash *Directional Buttons can be used in combination with a Grapple Dash to target specific Body Regions. 10. Neutral Grapple: Triangle Button *Simply pressing no button for a certain amount of time while in a Neutral Grapple will result in your character pushing the opponent away. Neutral Grapples can also be cancelled when attacking the character performing them from behind. 11. Neutral Grapple-Strike Attack: Circle Button during a Neutral Grapple *The Strike Attacks during a Neutral Grapple may be deflected by an opponent at any time, so trying for all three hits on harder difficulties is not usually recommended. 12. Neutral Grapple-Grapple Attack: Left/Right + Triangle Button during a N.G. *Other Directional Buttons can be used to target specific Body Regions. 13. Mid-Air Grapple: Triangle Button while enemy is in the air [Thanks to Dimitri Exodus for pointing out some information on this move] *Depending on where you grapple your opponent in the air, the air grapple attack will change. For example, if you air grapple an opponent from the back with Brad Hawk, he will perform a German Suplex instead of a Power Bomb or Power Slam. 14. Picking Up/Discarding Weapons: L1 Button *For a short amount of time, characters picking up weapons are vulnerable. Try for a Dash Attack to foil their attempt at grabbing a weapon. 15. Using Recovery Items: Circle Button while holding a recovery item *Though these items only recover Health or SPA Gauges, you may throw them at opponents as an attack, instead. Use the contents of the item first, however, or the opponent may take advantage of the recovery effects. 16. Weapon Attack: Circle or Triangle Button while holding a weapon *Some characters perform different Strikes and Grapples with weapons than other characters. For example, Lin Fong can perform a multi-hit Saber Grapple Attack, but Brad Hawk cannot with a Chinese Saber. 17. Weapon Throw: X+Square Buttons while holding a weapon *Opponents may catch the weapon that you throw at them, so be ready to use a Dash Attack to catch them off guard. You can also catch a weapon with the L1 Button. 18. Special Arts: Up, Left/Right, Down + Triangle + Circle Buttons *All Special Arts require, at the very least, two bars of the SPA Gauge to use. Status Effect SPAs usually cost the most to perform (around six) and Attack SPAs are in between two and six (around three or four). 19. Attack SPA: Up, Left/Right + Triangle + Circle Buttons *Performing an Attack SPA without any Directional Button executes a Neutral SPA move (usually a spinning kick to knock surrounding enemies away). Neutral SPAs cost two bars of the SPA Gauge to use. 20. Status Effect SPA: Down + Triangle + Circle Buttons *The different Status Effects are listed below in Section 7. 21. SPA Recovery: Press all buttons rapidly and rotate Left Analog Stick fast [Thanks to LESTODANTE for contributing this command] *Perform this command while stunned to recover your SPA Gauge quickly. Take care to NOT press both TRIANGLE and CIRCLE or your fighter will perform a neutral SPA and will exit from the stunned status. 22. Dash Attack: Up, Left/Right, Down + Circle Button during a dash *The Directional Buttons also specify which Body Region is targeted, just like Strike and Grapple Attacks. 23. Recovering from Stun: Perform any SPA command while stunned *Alternatively, you can press other buttons (except for Directional, Shoulder, or Start/Select Buttons) rapidly to recover faster. 24. Countering: Circle Button before enemy Strike Attack *Counters are different for every character. For example, Paul Phoenix twists the opponent's arm and flips the opponent away from him as his form of countering strikes. 25. Double Attack: Triangle Button when faced or surrounded by two enemies *A Double Attack can be performed when one opponent is in front of you while another is behind you. A Double Attack can also be performed if two partners are in front of you (side by side). After stunning two opponents at once, use a Taunt to get both opponents near you. Then, you will be able to execute a Double Attack in this manner. 26. Run-Up: X Button towards a wall [Thanks to Dimitri Exodus for pointing out some information on this move] *Run-Ups can be performed on opponents as well. Simply Dash towards an opponent (using Target Lock helps here) and you will "run-up" the target just as you would if you ran toward a wall. Any of the Diving Attacks can be performed as a follow-up to this type of Run-Up. 27. Diving Grapple Attack: Triangle Button during a Run-Up *No other Diving Attacks may be used as a follow-up after a Diving Grapple Attack has been performed. 28. Diving Strike Attack: Circle Button during a Run-Up 29. Diving Combo: Circle Button during a Diving Strike Attack *A Diving Combo can only be executed if another opponent is in the vicinity of the initial opponent being hit by the Diving Strike Attack. 30. Dodging Strikes: Square Button while under attack *Dodging several Strikes in succession usually puts your character behind the attacking opponent, leaving him or her open for an attack. 31. Deflection: Up, Left/Right, Down + Square Button while under attack *This move throws an opponent off balance, leaving him or her vulnerable. 32. Super Deflection: Square Button timed with enemy attack (even if stunned) *This move is a good alternative to using SPA moves to cancel attacks while stunned. 33. Attack Reversal: Up, Left/Right, Down + Square Button while under attack [Thanks to LESTODANTE for contributing this command] *"For example, Paul can reverse kicks (but not punches) by doing Right/Left + Square (maybe Up or Down direction should be ok) while being kicked. Kadonashi instead, can reverse punches with the same movement, but not kicks. Some other characters can block and reverse kicks OR punches too." 33. Grapple Break: Up, Left/Right, Down + Square Button while grappled *The Directional Button pressed must match your Body Region that is under attack. For example, if you performed a Grapple Break with Up and the opponent is attacking the Head Region, the Grapple Break will succeed. 34. Ground Grapple Break: Square Button (without any direction) [Thanks to LESTODANTE for contributing this command] *This command is used to escape from mounted punches or grapples while stunned on the ground. 35. Reversed Grapple Break: Square Button three times [Thanks to LESTODANTE for contributing this command] *This command is used to escape from a grapple that has been reversed as you tried to perform it. Specifically, you can use this command to escape from a grapple that you initially performed, but one that your opponent reversed. 36. Quick Recovery: Up, Left/Right, Down + Square Button before landing 37. Dash Dodge: Square Button during a Dash *This move does not have to be timed with an enemy's attack. It will work regardless of timing of enemy attacks. 38. Issuing Commands: R2 Button *Commands are not always executed right away, depending on the state of your partner. Partners under attack cannot take commands right away. 39. Call for Double-Team: R2 Button *Using this near an opponent will have your partner run near you for a Double-Team Attack (if he or she is available to do so). 40. Call for Help: R2 + Triangle Buttons *Using this command will make your partner target opponents that you are currently facing at the time of the command. 41. Split Up: R2 + Circle Buttons *Using this command makes your partner leave your side to lure other opponents away from you. Having a partner with the Concentration Up or Super Armor Status Effect SPA makes this command more useful. 42. Passing Weapons: R2 + Square Buttons *Nearby opponents can intercept a weapon pass to your partner. If your partner is under attack, the weapon pass is likely to fail. 43. Switching Fighters: R2 + X Buttons *If this is done in a Story Mode Mission, Brad Hawk being taken down will still result in a Mission Failure (even if the character you switched to is still up). 44. Double-Team Attack: Triangle Button when near your partner Like Mid-Air Grapples, a Double-Team Attack is dictated by where the opponent is grappled from. If you and your partner grapple an opponent from the front together, you may perform a different attack than one executed with your partner grappling from the back while you grapple in front of the opponent. "Some special Double Team attacks can be performed using the shoulder buttons (like the R2 Button). Example: Alex go to the back of his opponents and press UP+TRIANGLE, then press and hold down R2. His partner must close up to Alex back to perform a special DOUBLE TEAM GRAPPLE." [Thanks to LESTODANTE for adding to this command] 45. Assisting in Grapples made partner: Circle Button while enemy is grappled by a partner *You may "assist" in grapples by performing Strike Attacks while your opponent is grappled by a partner. For example, Shun Ying may use Strike Attacks on Riki while Brad Hawk has him in a Neutral Grapple. #1 Note: Only commands number 35-42 can be performed if you have a partner. #2 Note: Not all characters can perform every command (i.e. Paul Phoenix can not perform Run-Ups against walls). Experiment with each character to find out what type of moves are available to each character. They are USUALLY identified based on the character's stature (i.e. Golem is a large character and he cannot perform any Run-Up attacks). Knowing what each character is capable of will, ultimately, give you an edge in many different match-ups, no matter what the odds are. #3 Note: While not widely known, LESTODANTE informed me that some characters have special attacks (not with weapons like Shinkai can). One that LESTODANTE told me about was of Paul Phoenix. "Paul Ultimate Punishment: dash against opponents (X button) to tackle him, then press TRIANGLE+CIRCLE to break his neck. Depending from a front or back tackle the move will slightly change." =============================================================================== =============================================================================== 6). Specifying Regions and Regional Damage - The way damage is determined in Urban Reign goes by where the attack hits the opponent and how much that area has been attacked. As a general rule, the more the body region (the area hit) is attacked, the higher the damage done to the opponent will be. The damage done to a particular region of the body is shown through the Region Gauge near the Health and SPA Gauges. The following are the three regions and how they are damaged or attacked: 1. Head Region: This region is attacked by using Strike or Grapple attacks with the Up directional button. 2. Upper Body Region: This region is attacked by using Strike or Grapple attacks with the Left or Right directional buttons. 3. Lower Body Region: This region is attacked by using Strike or Grapple attacks with the Down direction button. - Using this information, it is important to try to attack a specific region until it is "busted up" (turns red on the Region Gauge). Using this tactic will make it more difficult for your opponent to stand up to attacks that target the specified region, giving you the overall advantage. - Some Missions require you to "bust up" certain regions of the opponent's body or bodies, so knowing how to attack each region is equally important. - Be wary of your opponent's stats and take them into consideration when deciding what body region to attack. For example, don't try to injure the lower body region of a character like Tong Yoon Bulsook, whose lower body endurance is near the maximum. Instead, attack a region that is weakest. If an opponent has no true "weakness" in a specific body region, just pick a region to attack and stay on that region rather than spreading all of the damage among the three regions (which will take much longer). =============================================================================== =============================================================================== 7). Status Effect Special Arts Types - In order to perform a Status Effect SPA, press Down + Triangle + Circle Buttons simultaneously. For a fixed amount of time, your character will glow a specific color. The color of the glow, ultimately, determines what Status Effect your character underwent. They are all positive changes in a character's fighting ability. The colors of each Status Effect SPA and what they do are listed below, according to the Urban Reign Game Manual. 1. Power Up (Red): Gives a 50% boost to the force of all of your attacks. 2. Concentration Up (Blue): Automatically executes a Deflection or Grapple Break. 3. Super Armor (Yellow): Reduces damage and keeps you from staggering. 4. Arcanum (Green): The fighter will be able to perform special moves. 5. Combination (Purple): [Thanks to LESTODANTE for correcting this part] The fighter will possess the Power Up effect in addition to one other effect. This varies by character. For example, Napalm 99 gets the Power Up and Super Armor effects, and he also recovers some of his Health Gauge when he uses his Status Effect SPA. - Take advantage of these SPA moves when you can. Sure, they cost around four to six bars of the SPA Gauge to use, but they can help you survive missions much longer and win matches or missions easier. - Perform this move, if you can, while under enemy attack. It will cancel the opponent's attack and damage him or her slightly. This is also a good move to use when surrounded by multiple enemies. - Obviously, every character has a different Status Effect SPA. Knowing who has which Status Effect SPA will, again, give you an edge on what to anticipate from your opponent(s). - Like the game manual suggests, if you can or have to use a CPU partner in a match, choose a partner that has either the Concentration Up (Blue) effect or the Super Armor (Yellow) effect. Your partner will be more likely to survive and help you out if you need it. CPU partners are rather smart about using the Status Effect SPAs at the appropriate moment, so all you have to worry about is the enemy or enemies that you are dealing with. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== 8). Statistics Key / Legend - In Urban Reign, all characters are identified (in terms of fighting power or ability) by their statistics in many different areas. These areas include the following: STK (Strike): This refers to damage caused by Strikes. GRP (Grapple): This refers to force of attack caused by Grapples. RGA (Regional Attack): This refers to force of attack on Body Regions SPA (Special Attack): This refers to force of attack caused by SPA moves. WPA (Weapon Attack): This refers to force of attack caused by Weapons. TGH (Toughness): This refers to endurance against normal attacks. HDE (Head Endurance): This refers to endurance of Head region. UBE (Upper Body Endurance): This refers to endurance of Upper Body region. LBE (Lower Body Endurance): This refers to endurance of Lower Body region. *I have created a system that measures each character's ability in a certain area on a scale of 1 (lowest) to 10 (highest). All measures of a character and his or her fighting ability are based on my approximations (I believe they are very accurate). =============================================================================== =============================================================================== 9). Character Profiles / Unlock Methods / Statistics - There are 60 different characters to choose from in Urban Reign. Though many of them fight in similar manners to some of the other characters, their stats (obviously) set them apart from all others. In this section, I will give the in-game profiles of each character (height, weight, and what have you), the methods for unlocking the characters, and, most importantly, the stats of each character. This section will be the most lengthy so be ready to refer to the table of contents if you want notes on a specific character. However, reviewing all stats for every character may give you an edge in fights. 1a. Brad Hawk Style: All-Round Height / Weight: 185 cm. / 87 kg. Date of Birth: ?? (Age: ??) Game Modes - For those of you who are playing this game for the mere enjoyment of beating on your friends or relatives, I have to say that your fun will be rather limited. The only reason I say this is that everything must be unlocked through the Story Mode. So, in order to get the most out of Urban Reign, you'll want to unlock everything (or almost everything) that this game has to offer. Fortunately for you, the reader, I have included all strategies for every mission in Story Mode (on VERY HARD difficulty). Even still, if you want to take a break from cleaning the streets of Ragtown, Green Harbor, you'll be happy to know that there are a couple of modes to keep you and your friends (or relatives) interested in Urban Reign. The modes are separated into two categories: Challenge and Multiplayer modes. In addition to these modes, there are Extras (Tutorial, Practice, etc.) and Free Mode and they will also be covered later in this section. a. Challenge Mode Unlocked By: Beating the entire Story Mode. - The object of this mode is simply to take down as many enemies as you can as they appear one after another. Some of the basic rules of this mode are the following: 1. Your Health Gauge always regenerates (to full) after every match. 2. Your SPA Gauge always starts at half for every match. 3. There is no time limit in Challenge Mode. - Additionally, there are options that can be changed to your liking and they include: 1. The number of battles for a Challenge Mode "run" (from 10 to 50) 2. The level of difficulty (VERY EASY to VERY HARD) 3. The enemy's or enemies' abilities (average stats to maximum stats). 4. The music playing during each match. 5. The Challenge Format (either Single Player or Team Battle) 6. The number of players (up to two players may battle cooperatively). - Players will fight enemies (up to two per match) until the number of matches chosen has been completed. Following the Challenge Mode "run" will be a Results screen that tells how players fared in throughout the entire set of matches. b. Free Mode Unlocked By: Beating the entire Story Mode. - What this mode entails is simply choosing missions (from Story Mode) and playing them with any character(s) that you want. Following the completion of a mission will be a Results screen that tells how players fared in that particular mission. Also, at the Results screen, players are given a ranking (from E, which is lowest, to S, which is highest). Some of the basic rules of this mode are the following: 1. You are allowed to choose any character that is NOT an opponent of the mission that you are choosing (i.e. you cannot play as McKinzie or Napalm 99 in Mission 70: Finishing Touches, which is the mission that requires you to defeat both of these characters). 2. You are allowed to choose any character as a partner that is NOT an opponent of the mission that you are choosing (just like #1). In addition, you may only choose any character as a partner if the chosen mission allows the presence of a partner (i.e. Mission 15: Fury, is a one-on-one mission only). 3. Just like Story Mode, this mode is a single player mode only. 4. You cannot choose to have weapons at the beginning of a particular mission (unlike Challenge and Multiplayer Mode). - Additionally, there are options that can be changed to your liking and they include: 1. The level of difficulty (VERY EASY to VERY HARD). 2. The enemy's or enemies' abilities (average stats to maximum stats). - The Results screen, which follows upon the completion of a mission, is separated into the following criteria: 1. Clear Time: Points gained and time it took to complete the mission. 2. Max Combo: Points gained and highest number of combo hits. Note that a combo constitute the number of successful hits on an opponent in a row before being damaged by any attack. So, basically, if you don't get hit, your combo won't ever be broken. Try for this in all missions. 3. Damage Taken: Remaining health and points gained. 4. Partner KO: Points deducted due to partner being taken down. Note that this does not apply for missions that do not allow partners to be used. 5. Recovery Item: Points deducted when recovery item is used. Note that most missions do not even have recovery items. 6. Play Bonus: Total of all points obtained from #1: Clear Time through #5: Recovery Item. 7. Fighter Points: Bonus value attributed to character used. As a general rule, lower tier characters give higher Fighter Points bonuses. - As a general rule, the more points you get at the end of a mission, the higher your ranking will be. Try to use lower-tier characters (*** or lower in Star Rating) on higher difficulty levels, don't get hit too much (or at all, if you can manage), and get high combo ratings for the best chance at getting an S Ranking on any mission. c. Multiplayer Mode - Again, this mode is not going to be as fun as you would expect at the onset of the game (basically, having absolutely nothing unlocked). However, there are plenty of different modes that are worth trying out, and they only get better as you unlock more characters, weapons, etc. Multiplayer Mode is separated into three different match modes and they are all further broken down in this section. 1. Versus mode: This is a standard battle that you win by depleting your opponent's health gauge. 2. Weapon Battle mode: Compete against your opponent(s) to scramble for a weapon. 3. Destruction Battle mode: Destroy your opponent's object while protecting your own. You win either by completely destroying your opponent's object first, or by having destroyed more of theirs than they have of yours when time runs out. - In addition to these modes are several different options that you can tweak to your liking. - The following settings are all exclusive to the Versus mode 1. Knock Out: This setting only allows a match to be won by knocking out (depleting the health gauge of the opponent). 2. Damage Amount: The amount of damage inflicted within a given time (measured by points) determines the winner. 3. Regional KO: Choose whether an incapacitation of a body region register as a KO. 4. Double Team KO: Choose whether a Double-Team grapple should register as a KO. 5. Quick SPA Gauge: Choose whether the SPA Gauge should be quickly replenished during idle time. - The following settings are all exclusive to the Weapon Battle mode 1. Weapon Scramble: The winner is the one holding the weapon when time runs out. 2. Continuous Possession Time: Win by holding onto the weapon for a fixed period of time (continuously). 3. Total Possession Time: Whoever has been in possession of the weapon for the longest amount of time is the winner. 4. KO Decision: Choose whether the match should be decided by KO. 5. Max Weapon Damage: Choose whether a KO should be awarded when a weapon attack has been performed. 6. Weapon Scramble SPA-0: Lets you choose whether the SPA Gauge should be reset to zero when you are holding a weapon. - The following settings are all exclusive to the Destruction Battle Mode 1. Weapon: Attack and destroy an object with a weapon to win. 2. Knockdown: Win by throwing an enemy at an object to destroy it. 3. Demolition KO: Choose whether a KO is to be awarded when your own object is destroyed. 4. Quick SPA Gauge: Choose whether the SPA Gauge should be quickly replenished during idle time. - Furthermore, there are settings that are common among all three modes. 1. Single Battle: One-on-one match. 2. Team Battle: Two-on-two match. 3. 3-Fighter Battle Royale: Wage a Battle Royale between three players. 4. 4-Fighter Battle Royale: Wage a Battle Royale between four players. 5. Stage: Choose the background where the match is to occur. 6. Round: Choose the number of rounds to play (one to three). 7. Time: Choose the match's duration (one, three, or five minutes). 8. Music: Choose the background music (Stage-Specific or Random). - These modes are a great departure from the trials that you have to face in the Story Mode so don't pass these modes up!! My personal favorite is the Weapon Battle mode!! d. Extras - This mode is basically the "Practice" mode of the game. There are four different options to choose from. 1. Tutorial: This outlines the commands and details of the numerous character actions within Urban Reign. 2. Practice: Just as the name implies, it is the mode where you can gain some practice against specific characters, using all moves of a particular character, and more. 3. Fighter Files: This mode lets you check the profiles of all unlocked characters of your game data. 4. Credits: This mode lets you see the Urban Reign staff credits (only after beating the Story Mode once). - These are basically all of the modes that Urban Reign has to offer beyond the very lengthy Story Mode. Use these to become even more familiar with your favorite characters and their abilities. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== 11). Weapons List and Damage Amounts - There are about 27 different weapons (that I counted) in Urban Reign. This section will cover the names of those weapons and the amounts of damage that each one inflicts when used. Note that the damage amounts will be estimated based on how much damage is inflicted with Max WPA (Weapon ATK) against an opponent with Max TGH (Toughness). Also, while there are Special Arts attacks listed for most weapons, not all characters can use the Special Arts attacks. The following is a list of who can use SPAs for specific weapons. These particular SPA moves do more damage than normal SPA weapon moves (such as Brad Hawk performing one strong slash with any Katana or Wood Sword). Specific Weapon SPA Moves: *Only Dillan Anderson, Jack Bain, Ray Cooper, Douglas McKinzie, and Samuel Taylor can use SPA moves with the Sai, Knife, Butterfly Knife, and Hunter Knife. This SPA move is a knife slashing combo (usually four or five hits). *Only Shun Ying Lee, Lin Fong Lee, Shinkai, Ye Wei Cheng, Yan Jun Kwan, Sha Ying Lai, Hiro, Masa, Riki, Ryuji, and Lilian can use SPA moves with the C.Sword, Chinese Saber, and Lin's Saber. This SPA move is a three-hit saber slash combo with the final slash sweeping the Lower Body region of the opponent. *Only Shinkai, Hiro, Masa, Riki, and Ryuji can use SPA moves with the Wood Swords (Long and Short), Katana, and Shinkai's Katana. The slash is a more powerful version of a normal SPA Katana slash. Shinkai is the only fighter with a second Katana/Wood Sword SPA move. He performs a stab to the Upper Body region of the opponent, turns the sword, pushes it in further, then pulls it out to deliver one final slash across the Upper Body region of the opponent. Other Notes on Weapon Use: *Many characters can perform grapple attacks that use the weapon that they are holding. Golem, for example, can perform a three-hit combo while using an Axe. Shinkai has a whole load of different Katana grapple attacks. *Being hit with an SPA attack while holding a weapon usually results in dropping the weapon. Keep up a high SPA Gauge to keep the weapon in your hands and out of your opponent's. *Against the CPU, take advantage of your opponent using the Super Armor Status Effect SPA. You can hit your "Super-Armored" opponent without fear of being deflected because the CPU is programmed to stop deflecting most strikes in this state. *Throwing weapons at your opponent may sometimes result in your opponent catching the weapon. This is okay in some cases where you can follow-up by using a dash attack as he or she catches the weapon. *Obviously, all of this data is basically a rough estimate of weapon damage for each type of body region. Damage differs when it comes to grapple attacks with each weapon, so use this as a general guide. 1. General Game Tips - As in most fighting games, there are some tactics that can be utilized in most every match. In Urban Reign, there are quite a few tactics that can be considered as options for taking down any particular opponent. 1. Whenever possible, use your character's neutral SPA move (press the circle+triangle buttons without any directional button). These moves not only come out quickly, but they can also "cancel" your opponent's combo attack or break your character out of being surrounded. 2. Get to know each character's (or at least your favorite character's) moves. Specifically, take into consideration their SPA status effects. Some characters have status effects that allow them to perform higher hit combo attacks while others allow you to damage your opponent's body regions more quickly and effectively. Using these moves in a tight situation can help you take the advantage back to your favor. 3. If you are at a loss when it comes to using certain moves, you should try to rely on lower body grapples. These are seldom counterattacked (not NEVER counterattacked) and they can lead you to a quick victory with their decent or, sometimes, devastating attack power. Damaging your opponent's lower body region will make it easier for you to knock him or her down to the ground. 4. If you are going up against multiple enemies, focus on one at a time. Usually, the remaining enemies will back off (even on VERY HARD) but keep your character ready to use a neutral SPA move if you are about to be grappled from behind or attacked from behind. Also, try to take advantage of Double Attacks (press Triangle between two enemies) if you are outnumbered as they will deal out a high amount of damage. 5. During many "boss" fights, the opponent will use his or her SPA status effect. If a character is glowing blue or yellow (meaning he or she is in the Concentration state or the Armor state), avoid that opponent until it wears off. You will probably be taken down quickly if you try to beat an opponent (who is in either state) to the punch. Sometimes, an opponent will glow purple when he or she uses a status effect. This means that he or she has one of the four status effects (you will have to try to attack the opponent to determine which status effect it is). 6. Whenever a weapon is available, try to use it against your opponent. NEVER try to pick up the weapon near an opponent (99% of the time, you will be hit and the weapon will be knocked away). Wait until your opponent is far or stunned and then pick the weapon up. Another tactic to try with weapons is to throw a weapon at the opponent and then run directly at him or her to perform a running attack or grapple. This works fairly often and will give you the opportunity to pick the weapon up again while dealing some damage. 7. Namco's Tekken series is famous for availability of juggling opponents for massive damage. The same rings true (somewhat) in Urban Reign. Try to become experienced at juggling your opponent with a variety of moves at your character's disposal. For example, use Brad Hawk's three hit uppercut combo to send your opponent in the air. Then, punch your opponent using the neutral three hit combo twice in a row. Finally, end by quickly initiating his Left/Right SPA move for more hits. This juggle combo takes out nearly 50% of your opponent's health and, to top it all off, most opponents are defenseless in the air. 8. When playing matches with a CPU partner, try to choose a partner with an Armor status effect or Concentration status effect. He or she is more likely to survive and defeat other surrounding opponents and, thus, he or she will be able to help you take out any remaining foes (This tip is also given in section 7). 9. Difficulty is a major factor in this game. On VERY EASY, opponents will seldom perform any attack. On VERY HARD, they are very aggressive and intelligent. They tend to deflect nearly every attack that you throw at them (on VERY HARD). Getting used to playing on this setting will only make the game easier to master. - Other than these tips, just remember that trading blows with an opponent is more likely to occur than finishing matches with a full Health Gauge. What I mean by this is that in order to become very experienced at Urban Reign, you will have to anticipate attacks before they even occur. This fighting game is not your basic beatdown game, so mastering deflections and strike/grapple dodges are key to getting beyond finishing fights with a battered body and a near-empty Health Gauge. =============================================================================== =============================================================================== 13). Story Mode Missions - One thing to note about this section is that I am going to describe the mission objectives and how to accomplish them on the VERY HARD difficulty (so as to eliminate confusion of whether these strategies will work in any difficulty). Basically, giving you the VERY HARD difficulty method for beating a particular mission will make playing in other difficulties that much easier (obviously). Also, after each mission, you will be able to upgrade Brad Hawk's stats with points earned from a particular mission (the point amounts are 1 to 3 points per mission). In addition, after meeting certain conditions, you will unlock something after beating a particular mission (i.e. a new move for Brad Hawk to use in Story Mode, new characters, new weapons for Multi-player Mode, etc.). I will make note of these unlockables in section 7: Character Profiles. There are 100 missions in total, so expect another lengthy section. Ready? Well then... Mission Start!!! Mission 1: Warming Up Opponent(s): Em Cee and Real Deal Description: (No Partner) - Take everyone down. Strategy: - Since this is the first mission, you will find that the opponent's are rather unresponsive. Use this mission to practice beating down Em Cee and Real Deal (you will see quite often in other missions). Not too difficult at all. Try to practice juggling the opponent with strikes. Mission 2: First Job Opponent(s): Busta and Spider Description: (No Partner) - Take everyone down. Strategy: - Again, this is another "easy" mission that you should have no trouble with. Try using juggle combo attacks for easy damage and a quick win. Be wary of back strikes and grapples, however. Mission 3: Declaration Opponent(s): Busta Description: (No Partner) - Take Busta down. Strategy: - This is a simple one-on-one fight that is easily won by utilizing lower body grapples and juggle combo attacks. An easy mission to say the least. Mission 4: Friendly Gesture Opponent(s): Rod, Seth, and Torque Description: (No Partner) - Take one of them down. Strategy: - Just take aim at one of the three opponents (I usually attack Rod since he is the weakest of the three). Just attack away and this mission will be over very quickly. Mission 5: Child's Play Opponent(s): Nas-Tiii, Real Deal, and Ty Description: (No Partner) - Take one of them down. Strategy: - Another "take one of them down" mission. Aim for Ty or Nas-Tiii for the greatest ease in completing this mission. Use those juggle combo attacks when you can and watch your back with the neutral SPA move. Mission 6: Turf Opponent(s): Reggie Boone Description: (No Partner) - Take Reggie down within the Time Limit. Strategy: - You get two minutes to beat down Reggie, which is more than enough time to complete this objective. Use lower body attacks (that is wear all of Kadonashi's students excel) and grapples to take down Reggie before your two minutes are up. Mission 7: Retaliation Opponent(s): Busta, Pain Killah, and Spider Description: (No Partner) - Take everyone down. Strategy: - This mission is best fought by taking one of them down at a time. Go for Pain Killah first, then Busta. Finish off Spider last as he seems to deflect attacks and grapples quite often. Use your neutral SPA move and juggle combo attacks to take out these three. Mission 8: New Kid on the Block Opponent(s): Emilio Sanchez and Jose Ramirez Description: (No Partner) - Take everyone down. Strategy: - You will find that the Outsiders (Emilio and Jose being part of them obviously) are quite efficient at using deflections. Jose will go for grapples throughout most of the match, so be ready to deflect and/or dodge these grapples. Keep up the same strategy as in other missions for quick victory. Mission 9: Eye for an Eye Opponent(s): Colin Gardner, Reggie Boone, and Zach Parker Description: (No Partner) - Take everyone down. Strategy: - This mission happens to be one of the first difficult missions of Story Mode. What you get is all three of Kadonashi's students to take down. Your best bet is to go for Colin or Reggie first. Leave Zach for last as he is the strongest of the three. Be wary of back strikes. If you are open, any of the three can and will use a running strike to knock you into the air. If this happens and you are surrounded, you can expect a fairly damaging juggle combo to hit you. Be ready to use the neutral SPA move often in this mission. Mission 10: Observer Opponent(s): Glen Kluger, Rod, Seth, and Torque Description: (No Partner) - Take Glen's men down. Strategy: - You see Glen near the car? LEAVE HIM ALONE FOR THE ENTIRE MISSION!! If you bring him into the brawl, you are likely to get your a** handed to you. Just stick to beating down his lackies and you will finish the mission soon enough. Mission 11: The Proof Opponent(s): Jake Hudson Description: (No Partner) - Take Jake down. Strategy: - This mission is your first "boss-type" one-on-one mission. You end up fighting Jake in a bar. Use your grapples to throw Jake into tables, chairs, and walls for extra damage. Utilize your deflections when you can and DON'T rely on juggling combo attacks too much. Jake will often dodge or deflect your attacks if you use them too much. Mix up your strategy to keep Jake guessing and you will finish this match with relative ease. Mission 12: The Unlucky One Opponent(s): BK, Busta, Pain Killah, and Spider Description: (No Partner) - Take everyone down. Strategy: - You get to take down four enemies for this mission. Despite the odds that are against you, you should not have too much of a difficult time with this mission. They usually back off if you are beating on one of them, but, again, be wary of back attacks. Use your neutral SPA if you get surrounded by all of them and try for juggling combo attacks when you have the opportunity. Mission 13: Paying the Price Opponent(s): Jose Ramirez, Miguel Estevez, Ramon Perez, and Torque Description: (No Partner) - Take everyone down. Strategy: - This mission is a little more difficult than the last one only because the Outsiders (Jose, Miguel, and Ramon) tend to deflect grapples and strikes fairly often. Aim for Torque first and then, take down Jose or Ramon. Leave Miguel for last (since he is the leader, he happens to be the strongest of the group). This mission may take some time, so don't be afraid to use a hit-and-run strategy to take them all down. Mission 14: Right Stuff Opponent(s): Glen Kluger and Jake Hudson Description: (No Partner) - Take Glen down. Strategy: - Here's a mission that can get ugly very quickly, depending on how you approach it. If you keep away from Jake, you can approach this fight with a strategy similar to Mission 11: The Proof. However, if you are unlucky (or accident-prone) and Jake gets into the fray, then you'll want to be very careful or restart the mission. Taking both of these "boss-type" characters on by yourself is a little too difficult at this point (your stats probably are not very high, unless you used a GameShark or CodeBreaker). Mission 15: Fury Opponent(s): Kadonashi Description: (No Partner) - Take Kadonashi down. Strategy: - Mission 15: Fury, gave me quite a bit of trouble. Kadonashi has quite extraordinary stats (compared to Brad Hawk's) so you will have to rely on deflections and missed attacks as your opportunities for some decent damage. Trying to beat Kadonashi to the punch will result in your failing the mission, so don't try it!! Be patient and wait for opportunities to attack without worry of heavy retaliation and you will walk away from this mission glancing back at a downed Kadonashi. Mission 16: Repercussions Opponent(s): BK and Grave Digga' Description: (No Partner) - Take everyone down. Strategy: - This is the first mission that introduces the Westside Gym Boxers. Both BK and Grave Digga' are a pretty tough team if they keep using Double Team attacks on you. Since you are in an alley, run down the alley and take one of them on at a time. DON'T use SPA moves in excess. Their SPA moves tend to have higher priority than your's (if their's are executed shortly after your's) and you will be hit down to the ground. The ante has been heightened for all of your missions, to say the least, so button-mashing is out of the question. Mission 17: Crashing the Party Opponent(s): Busta, Em Cee, Miguel, Spider, and Ty Description: (No Partner) - Take everyone down. Strategy: - Mission 17: Crashing the Party is one of two missions that pits you against five opponents at once. Again, however, this is not too difficult to finish. Just attack one of them and watch your back, as usual, to keep yourself alive and kicking. These opponents should be ones that you have seen before, so you know how they fight. Use this knowledge to your advantage and anticipate their attacks for a quick and relatively simple win. Mission 18: Hit-and-Run Opponent(s): Rod and Torque Description: (No Partner) - Take the enemy down within the Time Limit. Strategy: - You get to fight Rod and Torque in the bar (just like Glen and Jake), so use those grapples and throw them into everything out in the open. Tacking on that extra damage will help you finish the mission within seconds. Use the Up SPA move when you corner either of the two (and repeatedly, if you can) for maximum damage and the win. Mission 19: Chinatown Welcome Opponent(s): BK, Bones, Booma, and Grave Digga' Description: (No Partner) - Take everyone down. Strategy: - This is like a souped-up version of Mission 16: Repercussions except this mission gives you Bones and Booma (the other two boxers) as well. Approach this mission with caution and use a hit-and-run tactic. Being that they are boxers, they capitalize on being in close. Using such a tactic will hinder their offense potential and give you an edge in defense. Play carefully and patiently for the win in this mission. Mission 20: The Hungry Wolf Opponent(s): Tong Yoon Bulsook Description: (No Partner) - Take Tong Yoon down. Strategy: - You battle Tong Yoon in the warehouse, which is somewhat of an edge. Try to throw Tong Yoon into the shelves and the walls for extra damage and remember that because he is a kick boxer, his LBE is at its highest. Basically, DON"T USE LOWER BODY GRAPPLES ON HIM!! Try for the upper body or his head for most damage. Be wary of his SPA moves. They hurt A LOT, especially if you are cornered and he is able to perform multiple SPA moves in a row. Try your juggling combo attacks, but mix up your battle strategy for the best results. Mission 21: World-Ranked Boxer Opponent(s): Glen Kluger and Grimm Description: (No Partner) - Take everyone down. Strategy: - World-Ranked Boxer... I hate this mission with a passion!! You get Glen and Grimm (leader of the boxers) to deal with. Grimm alone is tough enough. But, when you include Glen on this mission, the amount of trouble that you will have on this mission is unmeasurable. The only tips I can give you are USE DEFLECTIONS AND DODGES WHENEVER POSSIBLE!! They will often attack you from behind if you try to aim at one of them, so just play patiently and carefully. Mission 22: Ring of Fire Opponent(s): Grimm Description: (No Partner) - Take Grimm down. Strategy: - This fight is much easier than the last one. You get to fight Grimm in the bar, and, like Missions 11 and 14, you can make use of the tables and chairs around you. Use lower body grapples and SPA moves to take down Grimm. He will usually go for SPA combo moves, so watch out for them. Wear down his lower body for easier knockdowns. Mission 23: Avenging the Honor Opponent(s): Zach Parker Description: (No Partner) - Bust up Zach's lower body. Strategy: - This mission is easy to finish. Perform sweep kicks (Down+Circle) to weaken his lower body and mix those up with lower body grapples. Zach will be busted up in no time at all. Mission 24: Helping Hands Opponent(s): Kadonashi and Tong Yoon Bulsook Description: (No Partner) - Take everyone down. Strategy: - Just like Mission 21: World-Ranked Boxer, this mission pits you against two "boss-type" characters at the same time. Kadonashi and Tong Yoon together make a devastatingly powerful team. However, because you are in a warehouse for this mission, throw them at the shelves and walls and use a hit-and-run tactic (make use of that space for running!). Once you take down either opponent, fight the other like you would in a mission that you took that opponent one-on-one. Mission 25: Outnumbered Opponent(s): Busta, Em Cee, Nas-Tiii, Pain Killah, and Spider Description: (No Partner) - Take everyone down. Strategy: - This mission is the other five-on-one mission of the Story Mode. Approach this mission exactly how you did for Mission 17: Crashing the Party. These opponents are slightly weaker than the set of foes you get for Mission 17 (probably similar or weaker). Mission 26: Fist to Fist Opponent(s): Jake Hudson Description: (No Partner) - Take Jake down. Strategy: - This is like Mission 11: The Proof. You don't get to fight in the bar, however. Instead, you fight in a parking lot, so there aren't tables or chairs to take advantage of. Use deflections and SPA moves to take Jake down. Don't use the juggling combo attacks too often. After all, Jake (being that he is a wrestler) has tremendous power in grappling and throwing opponents. Mission 27: The Blitz Opponent(s): Glen Kluger, Rod, Seth, and Torque Description: (No Partner) - Take everyone down. Strategy: - All of Hell's Legion are your opponents for this mission. In order to beat this one, you will want to take out Rod, Torque, Seth, and Glen, in that order (it happens to be an order of low to high-tier). Keep yourself out of being surrounded and this mission should not give you any problems. Use the neutral SPA move often to keep from being teamed up on. Mission 28: Who's Your Daddy? Opponent(s): Glen Kluger Description: (No Partner) - Take Glen down. Strategy: - Mission 28 is the first mission that has the opponent wielding a weapon. In this case, Glen gets a crowbar (I think). Use your Up SPA move to knock the crowbar out of his hand and then you can deal with him as you would normally. Try and get the crowbar. If you can, use it to shut him up quickly. Mission 29: Small Fry Opponent(s): Busta, Pain Killah, and Spider Description: (No Partner) - Take everyone down. Strategy: - This mission is relatively simple. You've seen these guys before and you know how they fight, so take them down as you would in other missions involving these guys. More of a practice run than a mission. Mission 30: Showdown Opponent(s): Dwayne Davis Description: (No Partner) - Take Dwayne down. Strategy: - Here is the end of Chapter 1. You finally get to fight the leader of the Zaps. Dwayne seems rather adept at deflecting attacks, so fight carefully and only use your SPA moves when you know they will connect with Dwayne. He does an unbelievable amount of damage with his SPA combo moves, so try to be wary of them and dodge them when they come out. Use everything that you have learned up to this point in this mission. Overall, Dwayne is not that difficult to beat down. Mission 31: Chaos Opponent(s): DR-88, FK-71, and GD-05 Description: (Partner: Shun Ying Lee) - Take everyone down. Strategy: - This mission is a good introduction to the sets of opponents that you will be seeing quite often in other missions. These foes, part of the Outlaws, are not too difficult to take down. Watch for their neutral SPA moves. It is the move that looks like Zangief's (from Street Fighter) Double Lariat and it hurts quite a bit if you are in close. Keep away from these guys when they have a high enough SPA Gauge built up. Use your own SPA moves to cancel their attacks. Overall, not a very difficult mission. Mission 32: Dual Strike Opponent(s): Jack Bain and Ray Cooper Description: (Partner Allowed) - Take everyone down. Strategy: - Remember the introduction to Urban Reign? They you'll be happy to know (somewhat) that these guys are responsible for capturing KG in the first place. Since you get to use a partner for this mission (and the fact that there are only two opponents here helps a lot), you will find that they are more annoying than difficult. Watch for Bain especially. He seems to deflect grapples and strikes rather often. Cooper is not as difficult to deal with. Use Double Team attacks with your partner to shut them down quickly. Use juggling combo attacks sparingly (or when you get a good opportunity to use them). Mission 33: The Mob Opponent(s): Miguel Estevez, Ramon Perez, Jose Ramirez, and GD-05 Description: (Partner Allowed) - Take everyone down. Strategy: - Here we go again. The Outsiders are back with a little help. Still, you should not have any problems (especially considering the number of times that you have faced the Outsiders in the past missions). Take down Miguel quickly and terminate the remaining opponents one by one with Double Team attacks and SPA moves. Pretty much reminiscent of other missions with the OUtsiders. Mission 34: The Agitator Opponent(s): Jack Bain, Nas-Tiii, Real Deal, and Ty Description: (Partner Allowed) - Take Bain down. Strategy: - This mission should be one that is quickly finished. Avoid all the Zaps. Go straight for Bain and hit him with everything at your disposal. He is pretty efficient at deflections, but don't let that stop you from using everything you have. Try to deflect his strikes and go for grapples. Use your SPA moves in response to his to cancel them. Bain should go down in a matter of seconds. Mission 35: The Hatchet Man Opponent(s): Chris Bowman, DR-88, and PT-22 Description: (Partner Allowed) - Take everyone down. Strategy: - A good tip for approaching this mission is knowing who your opponent is. Seeing that this is the first mission that pits you against Chris, you'll want to know what he is capable of. To be specific, Chris is a character using the Capoeira style. If you've played Tekken at all, you will find his style similar to Eddy and Christie (of Tekken 3, 4, and 5). Chris usually targets the lower body region of opponents, so having a partner with high lower body endurance helps in this mission. Take Tong Yoon as a partner. This will make dealing with all opponents much easier. Go for the Outlaws first, and take down Chris last. Get used to deflecting lower body strikes and grapples (Chris can and will use these often). Save your SPA moves for countering the ones that Chris will throw at you. After beating this mission, try to keep these strategies for taking on Chris fresh in your mind. This is not the last time you will see him. Mission 36: Despicable Ally Opponent(s): BK, Booma, and Jack Bain Description: (Partner: Glen Kluger) - Take the enemy down while protecting Glen. Strategy: - Glen's Status Effect SPA will help you deal with opponents more easily. While enemies try to make Glen stagger, in vain, you can attack all of them from behind with your grapples and Left/Right SPA move (the multi-hit combo). Again, you've seen BK and Booma fight already, so use that to your advantage when it comes to anticipating what attacks to watch out for. Take Bain down as you would in other missions. Mission 37: The Deal Opponent(s): Em Cee, Nas-Tiii, Real Deal, and Ty Description: (Partner: Jake Hudson) - Take everyone down. Strategy: - The Zaps will prove no match for you and Jake. Their stats are much more inferior to your's and Jake's, so take advantage of this stat difference. Double Team attacks while help take down these guys quickly. Use your SPA moves frequently, and watch for the occasional deflection that any one of these guys will pull out. If you're not careful, all four of them will capitalize on your one missed move (this will result in quite a bit of damage, obviously). Mission 38: The Derelict Opponent(s): FK-71, GD-05, and PT-22 Description: (Partner Allowed) - Take the enemy down within the Time Limit. Strategy: - This mission is just like Mission 31: Chaos. The only difference is one opponent. You get to fight PT-22 instead of DR-88. Big deal. They all fight in a similar fashion, so approach this mission in a similar fashion to Mission 31. Mission 39: The Grudge Opponent(s): Dae-Suk Park Description: (Partner Allowed) - Take Park down. Strategy: - This mission is a relatively difficult one. What you get is an opponent with the Concentration Up Status Effect SPA. He will always use it at the beginning of the match, so try to stay in a defensive position until it wears off. Park has some pretty damaging juggling combo attacks that he can and will use when given the opportunity. Be patient and what for the appropriate time to attack Park. Rushing into this fight will usually end (for you) in failure. Mission 40: Dead Run Opponent(s): Dillan Anderson, Em Cee, Jack Bain, and Nas-Tiii Description: (Partner: Dwayne Davis) - Take the enemy down while protecting Dwayne. Strategy: - You start this mission at the other end of the street while Dwayne is already in a brawl with members of the Zaps and Shadow Platoon. Run to him and perform a dash attack to knock surrounding enemies off of Dwayne. Stick close to Dwayne and try to utilize Double Team attacks when possible. Use your SPA moves frequently and never try to juggle your opponent. With this many opponents, your attacks are likely to get cancelled about 90% of the time. Capitalize on missed attacks of your foes and use grapples (running grapples for getting away from the crowd for a while) when you can. This is nothing compared to some of the later missions that require you to protect a partner. Mission 41: Traitor Opponent(s): BK, Bones, Booma, and Grave Digga' Description: (Partner: Grimm) - Take the enemy down while protecting Grimm. Strategy: - This mission is, more or less, another Mission 19: Chinatown Welcome. Approach this mission with the same strategy as before and you'll be on to the next mission in no time at all. Mission 42: Lucky Error Opponent(s): GD-05, Miguel Estevez, and PT-22 Description: (Partner: Tong Yoon Bulsook) - Take the enemy down while protecting Tong Yoon. Strategy: - You get Tong Yoon as your partner, and you have to protect him. Stick close to him and use Double Team attacks whenever possible. Most missions that give you any partner to protect are rather easy to finish, because you can take advantage of Double Team attacks against your opponents. Mission 43: Surrounded Opponent(s): Dillan Anderson, Jack Bain, Ray Cooper, and Samuel Taylor Description: (No Partner) - Take everyone down. Strategy: - This mission is a lot more difficult, especially because you get no partner to help you out. If you didn't already notice, you get to face all of the Shadow Platoon, minus their leader, McKinzie. Because they are prone to deflecting many of your attacks, tread softly in this mission. Work on each opponent separately to even the odds. Never try grapples or juggling combo attacks. They are likely to end in utter failure. Mission 44: Housecleaning Opponent(s): Emilio Sanchez, Jose Ramirez, and Miguel Estevez Description: (Partner Allowed) - Take everyone down. Strategy: - Again, you have to face the Outsiders. Luckily their end is near. Use the same tactic for beating these guys down and be careful of deflections. You get a partner to use, so make use of those Double Team attacks for a fast finish to this mission. Mission 45: The Duel Opponent(s): Chris Bowman, DR-88, FK-71, and PT-22 Description: (Partner Allowed) - Take Chris down. Strategy: - This mission is kind of like Mission 35: Hatchet Man, except your only objective is to get rid of Chris this time. The Outlaws standing by him won't attack you unless you happen to get near them or accidentally hit them. Take the fight to the other end of the subway, and use deflections and dodging in excess. Chris has some nasty juggling combo attacks that will inflict painful amounts of damage if you're not careful. Still, one-on-one with Chris is a lot easier than it seems as you can focus on him alone as opposed to Chris and some Outlaws. Mission 46: Conciliation Opponent(s): DR-88 and PT-22 Description: (Partner: Chris Bowman) - Take the enemy down while protecting Chris. Strategy: - How the mighty have fallen... not really. Chris is now in hot water for getting beaten by you, and, so, the Outlaws have decided to beat him as punishment for losing. There are only two opponents here, so this mission should be a breeze, especially with Chris as your partner. Unfortunately, Chris fights less furiously (it seems) when he is your partner as opposed to being your opponent. Mission 47: Setting an Example Opponent(s): Jack Bain, Jose Ramirez, Miguel Estevez, and Ramon Perez Description: (Partner Allowed) - Bust up Bain's lower body. Strategy: - This mission is a real pain in the a**. Not only do you have to NOT take down Bain and ONLY injure his lower body, but you have to do all of this among three other opponents. Even though you have a partner, this mission will still prove to be some trouble for the most experienced players. Try to get your partner to take on Jose, Miguel, and Ramon by him/herself (use Shun Ying Lee due to her Concentration Up SPA) and go for Bain's lower body. Use lower body grapples constantly to finish the job quickly (or before one of the Outsiders starts to annoy you with back strikes and/or grapples). A quick finish is the way to go for ending Mission 47. Mission 48: Tooth for a Tooth Opponent(s): Ray Cooper, Real Deal, and Samuel Taylor Description: (Partner: Kadonashi) - Take everyone down. Strategy: - Kadonashi tags along for this mission. He tends to fight fiercely when it comes to his students being beaten down, so expect him to take out one or two (if you're lucky) opponents before you take even one down. Take advantage of his "Fury" by using those Double Team attacks when you can. Cooper, Real Deal, and Taylor will be down and out in no time. Mission 49: The Lost Boy Opponent(s): Dillan Anderson Description: (No Partner) - Take Anderson down. Strategy: - A one-on-one mission with... a lowly member of the Shadow Platoon!? Yep, you get to give Anderson a beatdown. Surprisingly, however, Anderson seems to be a lot more proficient at deflecting attacks, so be cautious of his "new" abilities. Still, you can gain some practice from taking down Anderson. Try for a perfect match by using deflections and attacking only when you have a clear opportunity. Mission 50: The Scoundrel Opponent(s): Alex Steiner Description: (No Partner) - Take Alex down. Strategy: - This is the first mission to pit you against Alex. He gets a crowbar for this fight and he is also very proficient at deflecting attacks. In order to beat him, you will want to get that crowbar out of his hands. Use the Up SPA move (his "charge" punch) to knock the crowbar clear from his hands. Then, take him on like you would against Jake (they fight similarly). Be mindful of his superior stats and abilities, however. Alex is another opponent that you will see in future
