Welcome to my The Godfather FAQ/Walkthrough! Finally, I got to play a
real mafia game. I did like Mafia, but it isn't the same as this
wonderful game, The Godfather. As we all know, The Godfather is
based on the film with the same title from 1972 but both the movie
and the game plays out in New York from 1945. Many of the voices
that were in the movie. We should give and honour the great Marlon
Brando who gave his voice to the game before he passed away in 2004.
But for now, I hope you will enjoy this game and get use of this hard
worked out walkthrough. Enjoy!

Welcome to the Family

After a life of small crimes you have now become a member of the most
powerful criminal organization in the United States - the Corleone
family. You must now put in some respect and rise the grades in New
York's underworld.
As a member of the Corleone family it is your thing to get a good
reputation in the fight of the domination over the city and the
other families in New York (Tattaglia, Stracci, Cuneo and Barzini).
Learn when it is time for talk and when you should use violence to
get what you want. Take care of your cards, and you will get the money
and respect you need to advance. Who knows, maybe you can be the Don
over the whole New York?

The Police
==========
The police in games like these can be very frustrating as they
always tries to arrest you or kill you if you have commited a crime.
Depending on which sort of crime it is, the police will use diffrent
methods. 1-3 stars isn't dangerous at all, the cops will try to arrest
or kill, so avoid them. 4-5 stars will get black dressed cops involved
and many police cars will come after you and they will try to kill you.
If you're taken into prison you can bribe the seargant a big
amount of money to get free. On the street, if you're planning
to rob a bank/steal a vehicle or kill someone, you want to bribe
the cop that patrolls the street. When you have given him/them
the money, you can commit a crime or two, but after a while, they
will try to arrest you. The police officers can be seen wandering
around on the sidewalks all over New York, so always keep them
in mind.

Threating And Grabbing Commandos
================================
In The Godfather you will have to threat people to get information,
get someone to keep quiet if the civilian has seen a crime. You must
also threat shop keepers to take get a share in their businesses. Aim
at a character on the L1 button and press the R1 button to grab him/her.
Then press the Triangle button to talk to the character. If he/she doesn't
agree with you, you can threat him/her more by beat him/her up a bit, but
keep an eye out on their life bar. Watch out for the family that owns the
place, as they will try to kill you if you're trying to take over their
businesses.
As you're threating someone you'll see this bar in the top right
corner of the screen:

If the bar under the opponent's life bar goes over to the third field,
he/she will get furious and will try to kill you. So, press them good
enough to get them to cooperate.
You can use diffrent commandos while fighting with an enemy.
Strangle; While you have the character grabbed, press the L3 and R3
buttons together and you will strangle the enemy. When his/her life
bar goes down, he/she will die.
Drag; Move the right analog stick to the direction you want
to drag the character to.
Throw; Move the left analog stick to the direction you want to
throw the character to.
Wallop; While you have a character grabbed, move the left analog
stick towards a wall or object to wallop him/her against it. It
will do some serious damage.

FBI Agents
==========
The FBI agents will be displayed on the map with a yellow hat.
Go to them if you want to bribe down the vendetta of the rival
family you're currently in war with. The agent will then just turn
the attention away from you and the vendetta will lower.
The FBI agents can be found all over New York, so just
search for the "yellow hat" icon on the map to locate them.

except for your own.

Don Vito Corleone's family owns the area Little Italy on Manhatthan. Corleone's
assets and businesses has been attacked lately by the rival families, but thanks
to Don Vito's strong leadship the family has succeeded in keeping their
territory.

Tattaglia
---------
The Tattaglias are a bunch of thieves, and they're absolutely
not to be trusted. They have their compound in Brooklyn, and if
you're trying to take over New York, Brooklyn is a good place to
start on.

Stracci
-------
Stracci is a gang of psychos and they enjoy to kill. They're actually
giving the mafia a bad reputation. The Straccis have their compound
in New Jersey.

Cuneo
-----
You will never survive in Hell's Kitchen if you're not tough. The Cuneos
hasn't so much to boast about, but they have some prostitues here and there
and a livley weaponmarket. And of course they want to keep what they have.

Brazini
-------
The Brazinis lives in Midtown and they are some serious moneymakers.
You're gonna have to work hard to take over their businesses. Because when
you have alot of money, you're gonna have huge power over your territory.

Start a new game and watch the opening scene. After that, you'll have
control of a character. Follow the instructions on the screen on how
to fight the three punks in this alley. Use the L1 button to aim at
an enemy. Then use the right analog stick to punch. You can only punch
when you have an enemy in aim. Press the R1 button while you have an
enemy in aim to grab him. Then use the right analog stick to punch. When
he falls on his knees, push the left analog stick down to rise him up.
While he stands up and you're grabbing him, use the left analog stick to
move him around. Choose a direction with the left analog stick and release
the R1 button when you have an enemy grabbed to throw him. You can block
their attacks by pressing the Square button. Now, finish these punks off
to trigger a unpleasant but amazing scene....

THE ALLEY

After the scene you will be with Luca Brasi. He will tell you to beat
a punk up. So follow the instructions on the screen. When he's taken
care of, take the other one that Luca was holding up. Beat him up by
following the screen's instructions. After that you will get a new
objective to go to the safehouse. So, go out to the streets and steal
a vehicle and put the pedal to the metal. You will have no time-limit,
so you can take it easy. It's just a training mission after all. Once
there, enter the safehouse and go up the stairs to the second floor.
Go through the door in front of you and press the X button in front
of the green icon above the bed to display the save screen. Save the
game and the mission will be completed.

Alright, answer the phone downstairs. You will get a new objective
which will be to meet Luca outside. Just go through the front doors
to start a scene which will start the next mission.

THE INFORCER

Talk to Luca once the scene is over to get some info
on what to do. You're supposed to go into a shop just across the street
and convince the butcher to pay the Corleones for protection. Once you
get control of your character, go across the street and into the shop
marked on your map.
Talk to the butcher and you'll see that he mocks you, he won't pay.
Now, grab him and press the Triangle button to threat him. That won't
be enough, so either trash the shop a bit. Throw him out the window
or smash him against the wall or crack the cash register with his head!
This will get him to talk. You'll know when he's ready to talk, it's
when the blue bar has crossed the green line under the butcher's health
bar. Press the Triangle button when it has crossed the line to finish the
deal. Follow the butcher into another room and go right up the stairs. Talk
to the man with an icon above his head. You will buy his hidden racket.
Go back down to the entrance of the shop and you'll see a police seargant.
Bribe him with some money and he'll let you go. Remember this in the future,
to bribe cops and to find businesses and hidden rackets to take over across
New York. Now, exit the shop and give the money to Luca Brasi to end the
mission.

Talk to the black dressed man with an icon above his head to get the
objective to meet Paulie Gatto at the Falconite Social Club in Midtown.
Save the game at the safehouse first if you want or grab a vehicle and

The weapons in The Godfather has some very realistical sounds. And
of course it's the weapons that they're using in the 40s. You can
also upgrade your weapons from a 1st grade up to a 3rd grade. Just
look at your map and you will be able to determine which dealer on
the map who has the 1st, 2nd or 3rd upgrade. If there's only the weapons
symbol on the map, then that's the 1st grade and they'll cost $100.
The 2nd upgrade has the weapons symbol on it and some stars around
it but it's marked with white. They'll cost around $5000. Then there's
the 3rd upgrade which looks like the second upgrade but it's marked with
yellow. These are the best upgrades so expect some high prices from the
dealers. It can be from $250,000 up to $450,000! So be sure to save the
money.
Make sure that you buy the 2nd weapons upgrade as you're progressing in
the game, because the enemies will get stronger. Then near the end or
when you can afford it, buy the 3rd upgrade. Just always keep the upgrades
in mind. The only weapons that you can't upgrade is the melee and throw
weapons, they can only stay in one grade.
