0. INTRODUCTION
===============

It's good to be back.

I haven't written a FAQ/Walkthrough for a Resident Evil game since
2003's Resident Evil Dead Aim (Gun Survivor 4: Biohazard: Heroes Never
Die). But with the release of Outbreak for the PlayStation 2 in the
U.S. and Japan, its time I got off the lazy chair and write a
walkthrough for the American version game.

Resident Evil Outbreak (Biohazard Outbreak) is a much larger game than
any of the previous games in the series by a large margin. There are
five different scenarios for the game. The scenarios are Outbreak,
Below Freezing Point, The Hive, Hellfire, and Decisions, Decisions.
Each scenario is like a short game in itself since there are many
alternate strategies and styles in just one scenario between the eight
different characters. For the sake of organization, this FAQ will focus
on Scenario One: Outbreak. There will be eight different walkthroughs
for each of the eight characters. They all follow the same basic flow
but seeing other attempted FAQs try to merge all the characters into
one, I decided that it's just not best that way. That way, there won't
be confusion when reading a walkthrough designed to cover every
character so haphazardly. Note that this FAQ is tailored toward the
EASY and NORMAL MODES, as HARD MODE can be unlocked by people who beat
the game, thus I assume they don't need walkthroughs. However, whenever
possible, I will include HARD MORE and VERY HARD MODE tips but they
will not be in abundance.

If you are looking for help with the other scenarios, then in the
future please consult my in-depth FAQs for the other scenarios. This
FAQ may be found on the following websites. If you see this on any
other, please e-mail me about it. Thank you.

information on the controls of the game. Entered a few FAQs. Got the
event checklist done for about 74% of the game. Added more to the
health guide within the general tips section. The guide is ready for
submission, but is only 85% complete.

2. CONTROLS
===========

There are six different control schemes for Resident Evil Outbreak,
each offering a minor variation over the other. Type B is highly
recommended because it is exactly the same as the control scheme for
the PSone Resident Evil games.

3. CHARACTERS
=============

------------------
- A. Kevin Ryman -
------------------
OCCUPATION: Police Officer
PERSONAL ITEMS: .45 Automatic Handgun
SPECIAL ACTIONS: Kick (Press X while holding R1)
INFORMATION: Kevin Ryman is a good all around character and is great
for beginners. He has strength, speed and his own gun. Being a police
officer he shoots everything very accurately and can deal with monsters
quite well. He has no major disadvantages.
RECOMMENDATION FOR SCENARIO: 4/5

-------------------
- B. Mark Wilkins -
-------------------
OCCUPATION: Security Guard
PERSONAL ITEMS: Handgun
SPECIAL ACTIONS: Guard (Press X while holding R1)
INFORMATION: Mark is a big guy so he runs a bit slow, but his size
gives him an advantage because he can move heavy objects faster than
someone like Yoko can. He also fires with good accuracy. His major
disadvantage is running slow as mentioned above, so it's not wise to
use him in a scenario where you have to keep moving at a fast pace,
especially in Decisions, Decisions. He's alright for the first scenario
though.
RECOMMENDATION FOR SCENARIO: 3/5

----------------------
- C. Alyssa Ashcroft -
----------------------
OCCUPATION: Journalist
PERSONAL ITEMS: Lockpick Tools
SPECIAL ACTIONS: Backstep (Press X while holding R1)
INFORMATION: Alyssa is the best female you can have in the game. Her
lockpicks help eliminate the need for some keys, and she runs fast and
fires somewhat accurately. However, don't use Alyssa for the first
scenario. See 'Section 6: Other Information' for the reason.
RECOMMENDATON FOR SCENARIO: 0/5 with glitch (4/5 without glitch)

-----------------
- D. David King -
-----------------
OCCUPATION: Plumber
PERSONAL ITEMS: Tool Box
SPECIAL ACTIONS: Wrench Throw (Press X while holding R1)
INFORMATION: David can repair broken items with his toolbox function.
This is helpful in situations where a gun might break. His running
speed is good and he's a good shot. He's not nearly as combative as
Kevin or Mark, but his special abilities help him out.
RECOMMENDATION FOR SCENARIO: 3/5

-------------------
- E. Cindy Lennox -
-------------------
OCCUPATION: Waitress
PERSONAL ITEMS: Herb Case
SPECIAL ACTIONS: Duck (Press X while holding R1)
INFORMATION: She's actually tougher than she looks. She's not
particularly good at shooting, but she can play the piano, among other
things. Her Duck ability helps her avoid damage. She's pretty average
overall.
RECOMMENDATION FOR SCENARIO: 3/5

------------------
- F. Jim Chapman -
------------------
OCCUPATION: Train Company Employee
PERSONAL ITEMS: Coin
SPECIAL ACTIONS: Playing dead (Press X while holding R1)
INFORMATION: He's annoying. He constantly whines, but he's a good
character because he can play dead to help conserve ammo. This special
action isn't much, but it's something notable. He runs fast, shoots
well and is pretty good overall.
RECOMMENDATION FOR SCENARIO: 4/5

------------------
- G. Yoko Suzuki -
------------------
OCCUPATION: University Student
PERSONAL ITEMS: Backpack
SPECIAL ACTIONS: Escape (Press X while holding R1)
INFORMATION: She's slow, has a hard time aiming a gun, and is rather
weak in terms of strength. But her most redeeming factor is that she
has a backpack which helps her carry twice the amount of items (8 vs.
4). This alone helps her avoid constant trading and backtracking.
Highly recommended as a partner character whenever possible.
RECOMMENDATION FOR SCENARIO: 3.5/5

----------------------
- H. George Hamilton -
----------------------
OCCUPATION: Doctor
PERSONAL ITEMS: Medical Kit
SPECIAL ACTIONS: (Press X while holding or pressing R1)
INFORMATION: George is a semi-frightened doctor, and being a doctor he
takes aim with his medical knowledge to mix up herbs and medicines and
such. He's a bit slow, and his shooting's not as good as it should be,
but he's recommended for health freaks out there.
RECOMMENDATION FOR SCENARIO: 3/5

-----------------
- Work Together -
-----------------
More so than Resident Evil Zero, cooperation is the key to success
here. While you can't control your partners, you can use them to hold
items for you, help you kill enemies, help you when you're in Danger
mode and help you up if you're hanging from a ledge. Resident Evil
Outbreak will be difficult to win alone.

-----------------------------
- Keep Your Partners Around -
-----------------------------
Your partners may run off, making the game a tad bit harder. Try to
communicate with them to keep them around.

---------------------------
- Distribute Items Evenly -
---------------------------
Your partner characters need healing items and weapons, too. Normally
in every scenario you'll find multiple copies of guns and ammo so give
each of your partners a gun and a healing item and you're set to run
through the scenario smoothly.

-------------------------
- Watch the Virus Gauge -
-------------------------
On the lower right hand corner is the virus gauge. It's actually a slow
timer which pushes you to complete a scenario as fast as you can. Once
it reaches 100%, you die (or turn into a zombie temporarily in online
mode). Stop the percentage from going up by using Herbs and Anti-Virus.

-----------------
- Conserve Ammo -
-----------------
This is very important in Outbreak because zombies take quite a few
bullets to kill, and the menu system is in real time so it might take
you awhile to reload. Conserving ammo gives you plenty for bosses which
use up ammo the most.

--------------------------------------
- Avoid Confrontations When Possible -
--------------------------------------
Sometimes zombies don't have to be killed. Especially in rooms where
you only visit them once, its wise to sometimes avoid zombies by
running passed them in order to save time and ammo. The Special Actions
of most characters help make this happen.

------------------------
- Use the Menu Quickly -
------------------------
With the menu being real-time unlike the previous Resident Evil games,
you have to be quick with the menu when you're being attacked by
zombies. Do what you want to do with the menu, such as reloading or
healing, and then turn it off and move forward to avoid sustaining
damage.

-----------------------------
- Watch For Clues from UPCs -
-----------------------------
The NPC's context when communicating with you contains clues about
where to go, how to use an item, etc. These clues are really important
to progressing in the game. While you are using a walkthrough, there
might be something I possibly might have missed (in which case you
should e-mail me so I can cover it).

--------------------------------
- Look For an Enemy's Weakness -
--------------------------------
Enemies are weaker against certain guns than others. Try to exploit
their weaknesses to conserve health and ammo. For example, zombies die
easier when you shoot them in the head or attack them with longer
weapons. Groups of zombies are easily dispatched by a Shotgun shells
rather than a single Handgun.

----------------------------------
- Break Down Doors When Possible -
----------------------------------
If possible, you can shoot or break down doors without having to use
keys. Aim your gun at them and unload a couple (or maybe 15) rounds or
bullets to get the door open. This saves having to search for the key
which your partner NPC might have dropped.

--------------------------------
- Keep Track of Items You Drop -
--------------------------------
Sometimes an NPC may pick up an important key and then run off or drop
it without knowing. In every room, try making sure if your partner
holds an important item that they still have it. Otherwise when you
really need the item, you might have to search for it.

5. WALKTHROUGHS
===============

Each walkthrough for a specific character is detailed, and just about
complete. Optional rooms can be skipped over although visiting them is
recommended. Most of the character's walkthroughs are 85% the same with
minor variations, but it helps keep an order. The walkthroughs after
all are designed for first timers.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
#######################################################################
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
- A. Kevin Ryman -
------------------

PRE-REQUISITES: First off, more than likely you will be partnered up
with Cindy and Mark. Note that you can take great care of Bob and drag
him through the scenario to gain extra points at the end of the
scenario, but this is only recommended with Mark and not anyone else,
and thus the details are in his walkthrough only.

----------

J'S BAR
When the game begins, run over to the barrel near the windows the
zombies are banging at and then push the barrel in front of the door.
This will grant you more time. Then run to the counter and grab the
HANDGUN. There will also be a S.T.A.R.S. Guide which is a special item.
Turn the corner to the other side of the bar and grab the PLAYING
MANUAL. Then go to the waiter's side of the bar table and grab the
STAFF ROOM KEY. Use it on the door nearby. Unlock the door. But before
going through it, go to the WOMEN'S BATHROOM.

*************
OPTIONAL ROOM
*************
WOMEN'S BATHROOM
Around the time when you enter, the zombies will bust through the
window. Search to the left of the door for a SCRUB BRUSH. Then exit the
room to avoid a zombie encounter.
*************
OPTIONAL ROOM
*************

J'S BAR
Run next door to the MEN'S BATHROOM.

*************
OPTIONAL ROOM
*************
MEN'S BATHROOM
On the sink is a GREEN HERB and in the trashcan is a HANDGUN. Give it
to Cindy if she's inside (since Mark has his own gun). Then exit the
room.
*************
OPTIONAL ROOM
*************

J'S BAR
If you haven't given Cindy the second HANDGUN, then do so right now.
Then go through the door you just unlocked.

STAIRS BETWEEN 1F AND 2F
To the left is PLAYING MANUAL 2. Run up the stairs, and there should be
a GREEN HERB near the windows (if your partners got in here then they
might have it). If the zombies broke into the bar, then they'll
probably pursue you into the room. At the top of the stairs, a zombie
will pop through the windows. Do not let it grab you or it might pull
you out of the room and kill you. Go up another flight of stairs to the
STAFF ROOM.

STAFF ROOM
Run forward from the stairs, and turn the corner. You'll see a white
door. Go through it.

BREAK ROOM
Zombies will follow you in here. Search the trashcan for a map. On the
floor to the right of the lockers will be HANDGUN ROUNDS. Searching the
lockers will give you a special item. Searching under the bed will land
you an IRON PIPE. Exit the room when you're finished.

STAFF ROOM
If there are zombies in the room, kill them all now. Run into the
adjacent hallway to the left. Go through the first door on the left.

*************
OPTIONAL ROOM
*************
LOCKER ROOM
You can hear the screaming citizens in here. To the right, the very
left locker lets you hide in it Metal Gear Solid 2/The Twin Snakes
style. The middle-right locker contains HANDGUN BULLETS. The right-most
locker contains a BLUE HERB, which you should mix with the GREEN HERBS
you might have. On the other side's lockers, the very right one
contains a WOODEN POLE. The one next to it contains the DIARY OF BAR'S
STAFF." Next to that is ANTI-VIRUS, which you should use to stop the
virus gauge from rising for a short time. The last locker is another
hiding place. Exit once you're done looking around.
*************
OPTIONAL ROOM
*************

STAFF ROOM
Run to the main area. On the lit desk is a NAIL GUN. You can use it as
a weapon against the zombies, which is rather ineffective, or you can
use it to barricade the door-less doorway into the STAFF ROOM area by
using the gun on the wooden boards near the door. The latter is
recommended. Back in the main area, look on the coffee table for the
RACCOON TODAY newspaper. Then look onto the table again to get the BLUE
KEY WITH TAG. Use it to unlock the door across from the LOCKER ROOM.
Then head up the stairs and into the LIQUOR ROOM.

LIQUOR ROOM
Ignore the door to the right for now and search the wine racks for an
ALCOHOL BOTTLE. Then return to the STAFF ROOM.

STAFF ROOM
Go to the door in the corner.

*************
OPTIONAL ROOM
*************
OWNER'S ROOM
Go to the very right and place the ALCOHOL BOTTLE on the painting.
You'll get the FORKLIFT KEY on HARD MODE. There are HERBS in this room,
outside on the balcony. Leave the room.
*************
OPTIONAL ROOM
*************

STAFF ROOM
Go to the small adjacent hallway into the DRAWING ROOM.

*************
OPTIONAL ROOM
*************
DRAWING ROOM
In here is a LIGHTER, a RACCOON TODAY newspaper and .45 AUTO ROUNDS for
Kevin's HANDGUN. Grabbing the LIGHTER is a good idea. Return to the
STAFF ROOM.
*************
OPTIONAL ROOM
*************

STAFF ROOM
Return to the LIQUOR ROOM.

LIQUOR ROOM
Go to the door on the right to the WINE ROOM.

WINE ROOM
In here, grab the PLAY SINGLE PLAYER MODE file. Search the barrel next
to the door for SHOTGUN ROUNDS, which you will need later. On the floor
is a FIRST AID SPRAY, and on the table is the FORKLIFT KEY. Grab that,
and then leave the room. (NOTE: You can also save and exit the game
here.)

LIQUOR ROOM
Run down the long hallway, turn the corner and then turn left to the
forklift. Use the FORKLIFT KEY and then activate the forklift. With it
activated, run to the ladder on the side of the barrel shelf. You can
also collect some more ALCOHOL BOTTLES if you like. Climb the ladder.
Now crawl over the shelves, turn left and go through the duct at the
end.

3F ROOFTOP STAIRWAY
Run up the stairs. On the desk is the STORAGE ROOM KEY, which is an
optional item. Then go through the door because the zombies will burst
into the room in a few seconds (if they haven't already).

ROOFTOP
Ignore or shoot the crows. Then run down all the way to the end, where
there's a door. Unlock it with the STORAGE ROOM KEY.

*************
OPTIONAL ROOM
*************
STORAGE ROOM
In here, run forward and climb atop the boxes. Go towards the shelf and
you'll encounter a HANDGUN MAGAZINE. Search the floor on the opposite
side of the room for a FIRST AID SPRAY. Then exit.
*************
OPTIONAL ROOM
*************

ROOFTOP
Run straight across the door and shoot or ram the fence (ramming is
recommended). Climb onto the ledge and you'll see a cut-scene
initiating a countdown to get to street in front of the bar. This
countdown insures that online players catch up with their partners. Run
along the rooftop ledge, climbing onto a higher ledge. At the end, jump
across to the other rooftop (wait for your partners to jump, or do so
first). When you jump, you'll likely hang from the building. Keep
mashing the X Button while pushing UP on the D-Pad to get up, or call
one of your partners for help. If a partner of yours needs help, help
them. Then run to the door on the other side of the rooftop.

TOP FLOOR OF APARTMENT
There's nothing in here except an elevator. Call the elevator and then
go inside.

1F OF APARTMENT
Once you step out of the elevator, grab the GREEN HERB if you need it.
Then avoid or kill the zombies as you turn the hallway left and exit
the apartment through the door.

IN FRONT OF J'S BAR
Move forward and watch the cut-scene. Then, when you regain control,
run to the right side of the police vehicle to get the town map. Then
run forward to where the zombies are advancing and then pushing the
police car forward. Then run back to where the police officer is
shooting and then push the next car forward (down to the left of where
the officer is). Once you've pushed it all the way, run to the large
brown gate-like door. Wait for another cut-scene to occur.

BEHIND THE APARTMENT
Once the cut-scene's over, run to the opposite end of the alleyway to
help the police officer break the door down, or try killing some
zombies. There's a FIRST AID SPRAY amongst the rubble on the trashed
side of the alleyway. The police officer will eventually break down the
door (try to do it very quickly though).

SLOPE ALONG THE CANAL
Once the cut-scene is over, run to the policeman's body and collect his
SHOTGUN and LIGHTER, if you didn't get the LIGHTER from the bar. Run
over to the valve handle on the tanker and then spin it to leak oil.
Then use the LIGHTER from the edges, making sure all living characters
are not standing on the gas. The gas will ignite. Once the cut-scene's
over, run to the canal and jump in (make sure the camera angle
changes). Then swim over to the hole high on the wall and crawl through
it.

TUNNEL
When you get down, run toward the screen for a RED HERB and a GREEN
HERB. Then run down the opposite path for one or two GREEN HERBS. Run
down the tunnel to the ladder at the end, to the left.

IN FRONT OF APPLE INN
Run down the street passed the Apple Inn to the policeman at the end.
Speak to the officer by pressing X (or whatever your confirm button
is). Watch the cut-scenes. You will be transported to a new area.

BEHIND THE RESIDENTIAL AREA
Get into the truck for two FIRST AID SPRAYS, .45 AUTO ROUNDS for Kevin
and a typewriter if you want to save and quit. Inside the truck is a
SHOTGUN as well. There's also a RED HERB around there. Run passed the
truck, and speak to the officer. Run up the stairs near him. To the
side of the stairs is a BLUE HERB. As you climb you'll see an open
window with a MAGNUM REVOLVER inside. On the floor nearby are MAGNUM
ROUNDS. Run up the stairs.

FOOTBRIDGE
Run across the bridge and watch the cut-scene. When the cut-scene is
finished, continue across the bridge and down the stairs.

MAIN STREET
You can now do ONE of TWO options here. One is to talk to the police
officer in the middle of the street and then return to BEHIND THE
RESIDENTIAL AREA and talk to the officer there. Alternatively, you can
stay here, talk to the officer and then blow the zombies up. Either one
will end the scenario. To blow the zombies up, run across the street
diagonally so you can grab the DETONATOR HANDLE. Then run to the middle
of the street and grab the DETONATOR MAIN UNIT. Combine the DETONATOR
HANDLE with the DETONATOR MAIN UNIT to form the DETONATOR. Then run to
the body in the middle of the street, shooting the zombies to clear the
way. Use the DETONATOR and the scenario will end.

PRE-REQUISITES: First off, more than likely you will be partnered up
with Cindy and Kevin. Note that you should take great care of Bob and
drag him through the scenario to gain extra points at the end of the
scenario.

----------

J'S BAR
When the game begins, run over to the barrel near the windows the
zombies are banging at and then push the barrel in front of the door.
This will grant you more time. Then run to the counter and grab the
HANDGUN. There might also be a S.T.A.R.S. Guide which is a special
item. Now, get a hold of Bob, the injured guy and drag him to the
locked door in this room. Turn the corner to the other side of the bar
and grab the PLAYING MANUAL. Then go to the waiter's side of the bar
table and grab the STAFF ROOM KEY. Use it on the door nearby. Unlock
the door. But before going through it, go to the WOMEN'S BATHROOM.

*************
OPTIONAL ROOM
*************
WOMEN'S BATHROOM
Around the time when you enter, the zombies will bust through the
window. Search to the left of the door for a SCRUB BRUSH. Then exit the
room to avoid a zombie encounter.

J'S BAR
Run next door to the MEN'S BATHROOM.

MEN'S BATHROOM
On the sink is a GREEN HERB and in the trashcan is a HANDGUN. Give it
to Cindy if she's inside (since Mark has his own gun). Then exit the
room.

*************

J'S BAR
If you haven't given Cindy the second HANDGUN, then do so right now.
Get ahold of Bob, and then go through the door you just unlocked.

STAIRS BETWEEN 1F AND 2F
To the left is PLAYING MANUAL 2. Run up the stairs while holding Bob,
and there should be a GREEN HERB near the windows (if your partners got
in here then they might have it). If the zombies broke into the bar,
then they'll probably pursue you into the room. At the top of the
stairs, a zombie will pop through the windows. Do not let it grab you
or it might pull you out of the room and kill you. Go up another flight
of stairs to the STAFF ROOM, making sure you're holding onto Bob.

STAFF ROOM
Run forward from the stairs, and turn the corner. You'll see a white
door. Go through it. Keep holding onto Bob.

BREAK ROOM
Zombies will follow you in here. Search the trashcan for a map. On the
floor to the right of the lockers will be HANDGUN ROUNDS. Searching the
lockers will give you a special item. Searching under the bed will land
you an IRON PIPE. Exit the room when you're finished.

STAFF ROOM
If there are zombies in the room, kill them all now and protect Bob at
all costs. Run into the adjacent hallway to the left. Go through the
first door on the left.

Make sure Bob is
still alive (if he isn't, then don't worry).

You might see a cut-scene involving Bob. Then head up the stairs and
into the LIQUOR ROOM.

LIQUOR ROOM
Keep hanging onto Bob. Ignore the door to the right for now and search
the wine racks for an ALCOHOL BOTTLE. Then return to the STAFF ROOM.

STAFF ROOM
Go to the door in the corner along with holding onto Bob.

*************
OPTIONAL ROOM
*************
OWNER'S ROOM
Go to the very right and place the ALCOHOL BOTTLE on the painting.
You'll get the FORKLIFT KEY on HARD MODE. There are HERBS in this room,
outside on the balcony. Leave the room with Bob.

Go to the small adjacent hallway into the DRAWING ROOM.

*************
OPTIONAL ROOM

(NOTE: You can also save and exit the game
here.)

LIQUOR ROOM
Run down the long hallway, turn the corner and then turn left to the
forklift. Then use the FORKLIFT KEY and then activate the forklift.
With it activated, run to the ladder on the side of the barrel shelf.
You can also collect some more ALCOHOL BOTTLES if you like. Climb the
ladder. Now crawl over the shelves, turn left and go through the duct
at the end.

3F ROOFTOP STAIRWAY
Run up the stairs if Bob is dead or you haven't bothered to save him.
Run down the stairs if you left him in the LIQUOR ROOM and open the
shutter at the base of the stairs to get him into this room. On the
desk is the STORAGE ROOM KEY, which is an optional item. Then go
through the door because the zombies will burst into the room in a few
seconds (if they haven't already). Bring Bob through the door with you.

ROOFTOP
Ignore or shoot the crows. Then run down all the way to the end, where
there's a door. Unlock it with the STORAGE ROOM KEY. Note that if Bob's
with you, you'll see a cut-scene with Bob. This will end the need to
drag him any further.

Inside the truck is also
a SHOTGUN. There's also a RED HERB around there. Run passed the truck,
and speak to the officer. Run up the stairs near him. To the side of
the stairs is a BLUE HERB. As you climb you'll see an open window with
a MAGNUM REVOLVER inside. On the floor nearby are MAGNUM ROUNDS. Run up
the stairs.

Then run to
the body in the middle of the street, shooting the zombies to clear the
way. Use the DETONATOR and the scenario will end.

police car forward.

There's also a RED HERB
around there. Run passed the truck, and speak to the officer. Run up
the stairs near him. To the side of the stairs is a BLUE HERB. As you
climb you'll see an open window with a MAGNUM REVOLVER inside. On the
floor nearby are MAGNUM ROUNDS.

J'S BAR
When the game begins, run over to the barrel near the windows the
zombies are banging at and then push the barrel in front of the door.
This will grant you more time. Then run to the counter and grab the
HANDGUN. There might also be a S.T.A.R.S. Guide which is a special
item.

J'S BAR
If you haven't given Kevin the second HANDGUN, then do so right now.

Exit the room when you're finished.

locker contains a BLUE HERB, which you should mix with the GREEN HERBS
you might have. Then check out Cindy's own locker. There are two GREEN
HERBS in there which you should place in her HERB CASE. On the other
side's lockers, the very right one contains a WOODEN POLE. The one next
to it contains the DIARY OF BAR'S STAFF." Next to that is ANTI-VIRUS,
which you should use to stop the virus gauge from rising for a short
time. The last locker is another hiding place. Exit once you're done

Also search the corner area of the shelves for MARK'S
BOTTLE which is a special item. Then return to the STAFF ROOM.

STAFF ROOM
Go to the door in the corner.

along the rooftop ledge, climbing onto a higher ledge. At the end, jump
across to the other rooftop (wait for your partners to jump, or do so
first). When you jump, you'll likely hang from the building. Keep
mashing the X Button while pushing UP on the D-Pad to get up, or call
one of your partners for help. If a partner of yours needs help, help
them. Then run to the door on the other side of the rooftop.

activated, run to the ladder on the side of the barrel shelf. You can
also collect some more ALCOHOL BOTTLES if you like.

There's also a RED HERB
around there. Run passed the truck, and speak to the officer. Run up
the stairs near him. To the side of the stairs is a BLUE HERB. As you
climb you'll see an open window with a MAGNUM REVOLVER inside. On the
floor nearby are MAGNUM ROUNDS (although they might not be there). Run
up the stairs.

PRE-REQUISITES: First off, more than likely you will be partnered up
with Cindy and Mark.

Then run to the counter and grab the
HANDGUN. There might also be a S.T.A.R.S. Guide which is a special
item. Turn the corner to the other side of the bar and grab the PLAYING
MANUAL. Then go to the waiter's side of the bar table and grab the
STAFF ROOM KEY. Use it on the door nearby. Unlock the door. But before
going through it, go to the WOMEN'S BATHROOM.

*************
OPTIONAL ROOM
*************
WOMEN'S BATHROOM
Around the time when you enter, the zombies will bust through the
window. Search to the left of the door for a SCRUB BRUSH. Then exit the
room to avoid a zombie encounter.
*************
OPTIONAL ROOM
*************

J'S BAR
Run next door to the MEN'S BATHROOM.

*************
OPTIONAL ROOM
*************
MEN'S BATHROOM
On the sink is a GREEN HERB and in the trashcan is a HANDGUN. Give it
to Cindy if she's inside (since Mark has his own gun). You can make
ANTIDOTE by combining the GREEN HERB with George's medical kit. Then
exit the room.

Now crawl over the shelves, turn left and go through the duct at the
end.

8. OTHER INFORMATION
====================

------------------------------------
- Unlocking "Below Freezing Point" -
------------------------------------

To unlock the second scenario, you can do one of several things. First
off, beat the scenario on any difficulty mode with any character.
Otherwise, you may simply achieve around a 50% event completion rate
which will help unlock the next scenario scenario.

----------------
- Network Mode -
----------------

Playing the scenario online is similar to playing it offline, except
your partners are all controlled by humans. The walkthrough remains the
same for most part, although the way you handle items and distribute
health and ammo is up to you. The only difference is if your virus
gauge fills up to 100%, you turn into a zombie for a few minutes and
then die. Note that a PlayStation 2 Network Adapter as well as
Broadband service is required to play the game online. In Japan, a KDDI
Multimatch Service account is required, as well as a Japanese credit
card and address. 56K Dial Up service connection is available only to
Japanese gamers and not American gamers. American gamers play online
for free. Outbreak will not be online in PAL areas.

------------------
- Shortest Times -
------------------

Usually, the first time beating the scenario can take up to an hour or
so. However, in replays, the "Outbreak" scenario can be beaten in under
ten minutes if you're quick. The fast characters, such as Alyssa and
Kevin, are highly recommended because of their great running speed.
Others such as Yoko and Mark, who are slow runners, probably will not
net you the fastest times. An HDD is recommended for speed runs. (see
below)

---------------------
- The Alyssa Glitch -
---------------------

Only in the "Outbreak" scenario and only with Alyssa, the game might
freeze. The official Capcom explanation is that Alyssa's text messages
are longer in length than all the other characters' as well as her
Japanese version, so the glitch will not occur with other characters,
or with Alyssa in the Japanese version. Basically, at any point in the
scenario when you perform a task, such as using the lighter to trigger
the FMV, or saving Bob, your game might freeze. It isn't recommended
you play as Alyssa. You may not be able to get a 100% completion rate
but you don't have to worry about the game freezing. Alternatively, you
can just quit the game from the options screen once you perform an
important task with Alyssa (such as unlocking the cabinet which she is
the only character who can do so). I myself have managed to mostly
avoid the glitch, but many others have gotten it.

-----------
- The HDD -
-----------

Resident Evil Outbreak and Biohazard Outbreak are compatible with the
PlayStation 2's HDD (hard disk drive) add on. The PAL version of
Outbreak will NOT be compatible with the HDD. The HDD serves to
minimize the long loadtimes seen throughout this game, providing a
faster paced feel for the game rather than the sometimes slow pace the
game may encounter due to the long loadtimes. In the Japanese version,
it can also hold a patch to fix the scenario. The HDD is available in
the U.S. for $99.99 and comes with Square Enix's Final Fantasy XI
Online game. In Japan, it is available separately or with a network
adapter. Please refer to the instruction booklets for installing the
HDD. Once I get an HDD, I will add installation instructions here.

------------------------------
- USB Keyboard Compatibility -
------------------------------

When going online and entering your information, you may use a USB
Keyboard to enter your information. USB Keyboards are available in your
local computer store, or you might even be using one with your PC. Plus
the keyboard into one the USB ports on the blue portion of your PS2.

=============================
9. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
=============================

Q. If I am a victim of the Alyssa glitch, what should I do?
A. It is recommended that you return your copy for a new one, or simply
stop playing as Alyssa.

Q. Will Capcom ever publish glitch-less copies?
A. The Alyssa glitch has been a non-factor for a long time now. The
Greatest Hits version of Resident Evil Outbreak shouldn't have the
glitch.

Q. What has Resident Evil Outbreak been called in the past?
A. Resident Evil Outbreak has gone under the name "Resident Evil
Network", "Resident Evil Online", "Network Biohazard", "Biohazard
Online" and "Biohazard Network." The name was changed due to the game
being offline as well as online. The final names are Resident Evil
Outbreak and Biohazard Outbreak.

Q. Are there any downloads for HDD users?
A. Only in Japan can you download a patch which fixes a glitch in the
Scenario 4 (Hellfire) event completion list. Other than that, there
aren't any so far unless Capcom USA decides to create a patch which
fixes the Alyssa glitch, which they haven't announced yet.

Q. There are blank slots in the scenario selection screen. How do I
unlock them?
A. They cannot be unlocked. When the game was being demonstrated and
previewed, it seemed as if more than 5 scenarios would be unlocked.
However, those scenarios now appear in Resident Evil Outbreak File #2.

Q. Who is the best character in the game?
A. There is no best character. Each character has a different attribute
that helps it excel over another character. In my personal opinion, Jim
is the worst character because his personal item is just a coin. Kevin,
Alyssa and Yoko are my first tier characters because the first two are
fast, shoot well and Yoko has the extra item storage. Mark, David,
Cindy and George have great attributes but they all seem a bit
secondary compared to the first three.

Q. Is this coming to any other platform besides PlayStation 2?
A. Nope, and given that the game is three and a half years old, it's
almost guaranteed to stay only on the PlayStation 2. You can play it
on the PlayStation 3 via backwards compatibility, though.

Q. Is Outbreak is the main Resident Evil series?
A. Yes it is, because it tells more of the Raccoon City tale started by
Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. It isn't the true
progressor of the series because that's Resident Evil 4's role.

Q. Will you write for the other scenarios or for Outbreak File #2?
A. No, sorry. I don't have the time or will to do so.

Q. Did the online servers go down?
A. Resident Evil Outbreak File #2's servers went down on March 31, 2007
in North America, but the original Outbreak's servers still function to
this day. In Japan, both Outbreak titles are still online.

Q. Will there be a Resident Evil Outbreak File #3?
A. I doubt it, since it's been almost 3 years since Outbreak File #2
came out in Japan.
