Well, my first FAQ. And it's about Naruto Ultimate Ninja 3. First of all,
I wrote this FAQ for three reasons. First, because I'm a fan of Naruto.
Second, I love this game. And third, I wanna help you. (If you're having
problems or questions about the game).

NEW GAME
- Starts a new game.

This is where all the game asks you to save your game.

4. GAME MODES [04]
===============================================================================
Ultimate Contest
-A sort of like RPG style mode, where you can explore the Leaf Village using
Naruto. While not in the story, you can complete missions, buy stuff, collect
scrolls and the like. The story is original and is not based on the anime.
Hero's History
-A mode where you can relive all the action from the anime. The mode is
divided into four arcs based from the anime. In each arc, you'll be fighting
for four times. Except for the last one, which you'll be fighting more than
five.
VS Duel
-Where you can fight it out with your friends or challenge the AI ( Insane
with 5 star handicap on you.) Unlocked characters is used here.
Iruka's Training
-What the title says, Training. After you execute a move, the move's name
will appear below.
The Break Room
-Ahhh.. The mini-games. The mini-games that you'll be facing in Ultimate
Contest mode will be here. It includes, tree climbing, Lee's exercises
( although you'll be facing Guy when it's in hard mode) and
Ten-Ten's target practice. You can also duke out the mini-games with your
friends here.
Tanzaku Market
-Items can be bought here and can be viewed in Naruto's House. The items
include from figurines to Ultimate Jutsus.

Options
-Options. What the name says. You can change the game mode host here (the
ninja appearing beside the game modes). You can also change the language of
the voices from English to Japanese here.

5. TERMS [05]

1.NUN3
-meaning Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 3
2.BOUNCE
-the term used when the enemy literally "bounces" at the end of a certain
combo usually leaving for more attacks.
3.JUGGLE
-used in other fighting games, "juggle" is a term for combos that are in-mid
air.
4.GUARD BREAKER
-a move that breaks the enemy's guard, leaving him open.
5.KNJ / SUBSTITUTION JUTSU
-KNJ stands for "Kawarimi no Jutsu", in english, means Substitution Jutsu. A
move that teleports you at the back of your enemy, while costing chakra.
6.LAUNCHER
-A move that launches your opponent in mid-air, for juggles.
7.JUTSU
-You can call them special attacks lower than greater special attacks. They
deal moderate damage.They are the special attacks that are in real time.
8.ULTIMATE JUTSU / OUGI
-The cinematic special attacks that are in the game. They are cool to watch
and they can deal great damage.

6. BATTLE TIPS [06]
===============================================================================
Some say that NUN3 isn't as deep as a fighter. Well, they're right. But UN3
STILL has some depth.
Well, here are all the controls with explanations.

6.1 COMBOS [061]
===============================================================================
Combos usually differ in every character in terms of specifics, but they
share almost the same qualities. If you're looking in this section to
find useful combos for <insert character here>, don't expect to have the best
discovery. To have that kind of stuff, look in the In-Depth Section of UN3
here in GameFaqs, there are character specific guides there. Anyway...
FORWARD + O
This combo is used to put back an enemy. When you're in a tight spot.
DOWN + O
This combo is usually to break the enemy's guard. It sometimes end in a
bounce thus launching your opponent for a juggle.
UP + O
Combo used to juggle an opponent in mid-air.
BACK + O
Combo used to throw an opponent. Very useful when in a tight spot. Other
characters throw their opponent to the front. When used near the wall, it can
start a juggler.
OOO + FORWARD + O
Use this combo to make your opponent continue his blocking. Use the guard
breaker to finish the string.
OOO + DOWN + O
Same as the combo above, to continue your opponent's guard. But some
characters has guard breakers in this combo.
OOO + UP + O
Combo for additional damage before a juggle. Not recommended as it can be
KNJ'ed easily and may not continue your combo. (explained later)
OOO + BACK + O
Combo for great damage and eye-candy attacks. These combos are usually long.
Also used to throw your opponent at the end of the combo
OOO while in mid-air
Used after a launcher to juggle your opponent. Basic juggling attack. Use
near wall for enhanced effect. (more juggles)
DOWN + OOO while in mid-air
Used to end a juggle early. If used after a dash, it can bounce up your
opponent for another juggle.
UP + OOO while in mid-air
A juggle used to launch your enemies higher but you can't juggle them anymore.
If you used this combo after a dash, then you can juggle again.
BACK + OOO while in mid-air
Usually an air-grab. Some grabs bounces your enemies for a juggle.

6.2 JUTSUS [062]

UP + UP + O
DOWN + DOWN + CIRCLE
There are many types of Jutsu attacks and I will try to list some of them.
1.)Chargable Clashable Attacks
-These are jutsu attacks that can be charged up.
-If fully charged/charged after the last meter(hold O), it can break the
opponent's guard and hits them.
-If charged but before the last meter, it breaks the opponent's guard but
not hits them.
-If not charged at all, it doesn't do anything to the guarded opponent.
-Some attacks can be used in mid-air.(Dark Chidori)
-Can clash with itself,Unchargable Attacks, Defensive Attacks
2.)Unchargable Clashable Attack
-These are jutsu attacks that cannot be charged up and are executed
immediately.
-It can't break an opponent's guard.
-Can clash with itself, Charging Attacks, Defensive Attacks
3.)Defensive Clashable Attack
-Can clash with Charging Attacks and Unchargable Attacks
-Can cause damage as well
4.)Jutsu Counters
-Jutsus that are executed when the enemies attack you while in a "pose".
-Some can clash with Charging and Defensive Attacks. (Hanabi's Rotation)
5.)Jutsu Combos
-Jutsus that are activated when you hit the enemy with the jutsu.
6.)Chargable Unclashable attacks
-Jutsus that can be charged up but can't be clashed.
7.)Unchargable Unclashable jutsus
-Jutsus that can't be charged up and can't also be clashed.
8.)Jutsu Traps
-Jutsus that are activated when you come near them.
9.)Jutsu Presses
-Jutsus that need the users to repeatedly press O when activated

6.3 ULTIMATE JUTSUS [063]
===============================================================================
To perform an Ultimate Jutsu / Ougi, Press /\ then immediately press O to
attack.
*TIPS IN PERFORMING THESE JUTSUS*
1. Consider the range of the jutsu starter* of the ultimate jutsu. These can
give you an advantage in performing this attacks. Take for example Guy's jutsu
starter of his default Ultimate Jutsu, that kick can range half the field.
You can catch the enemy by surpris from far away.
2. After a bounce or a deep fall of your opponent, time his fall in executing
your attack. This trick is hardly KNJ'able so it can be useful.
3. Consider your chakra. Avoid being punished by your enemy, if so, punish
them back to gain back your chakra.
4. Remember, you cannot hit most Ultimate Jutsu while in mid-air.
5. Master the button style you are using when doing Ultimate Jutsus. It's
better to master one at a time. Well, better master the dance revo style,
cause it's hard to catch up when you're already leading the hit count.
6. These jutsus have desirable effects like speeding you up, strengthen you.
But, they have side-effects too, like depleting chakra or health every second.
7. The best effect of these jutsus are the transformation states. It's like
transforming into a whole new character. New moves and new jutsus!

DASH
This will make your character "dash" towards your enemy. If your dash towards
your enemy when you're near them, your character will bounce off them, making
you go mid-air. Use that time to perform combos mid-air, using the combos
listed above.
Another tactic is when your enemy is near the wall, dash, then perform combo.
This will make the enemy bounce at the wall, leaving them open for more combos.
BACK + X
BACK DASH
Useful when escaping combos/jutsus. Use repeatedly if necessary.

THROW NINJA TOOL
Used to throw the tools selected. Shuriken and Kunai are the most common and
usually infinite.
Also useful in many things too. It can stop an enemy's combo/jutsu. If other
tools are used, like the kunai bomb or the large shuriken, it's best if the
enemy is falling or just after a bounce, as it's hard to KNJ from there.
L1/R1
SELECT NINJA TOOL
Nothing special, used to select the tools you collected on the field. Best to
make use of the arrangement of the tools, from L1 to R1.
HOLD L2/R2
GUARD
Used to guard against combos. Be careful though, as there are Guard Breakers.
That can stun your character for a second, leaving you open.
L2/R2 before being attacked by opponent
SUBSTITUTION JUTSU/KAWARIMI NO JUTSU/KNJ
This is what KNJ means. (If you haven't noticed already, I've been blabbering
KNJ all this time from above). The most useful means of defense in NUN3. It
costs chakra but it's worthy of that. This move will teleport your character
behind your opponent. That means you can attack them freely without
interruption. You can KNJ from any attack. From shurikens, combos, or Jutsu
starters, you can KNJ them all. But for more delicate combos or jutsus, you
need precise timing to KNJ them, as they are usually fast. So it's best to
master this first before mastering anything else.
*Tips in KNJ'ing.
1. KNJ while guarding. Hold Guard first, then repeatedly tap L2/R2.
2. If the attack won against you and you didn't KNJ fast enough before the
enemy, don't sweat. If your in a middle of a combo and being punished. Don't
hesitate to tap L2/R2 repeatedly as you can KNJ out of any combo because
there are intervals in the attacks in a combo.

6.5 ADVANCED TACTICS [065]
===============================================================================
1.ADDITIONAL ATTACK
This happens when you press O again after you combo'ed an enemy and sent
them flying. This will initiate a mini-game where you will rapidly press O
repeatedly until one is defeated. Tip is not to press anything before your
turn to press. I always win with this tactic.
2.JUTSU CLASH
This happens when two jutsu attacks collide with each other. For example,
Rasengan and Chidori, Tunneling Fang and Rotation and the like.Use the Jutsus
section above for more info if you haven't read yet.And again, this will
initiate another mini-game where you will repeatedly press O to push the
meter to the enemy's side to win.
3.X-DASH CANCEL
Executed by pressing [] while the character is getting ready to dash(rolling
stationary before the dash). Used for distracting the enemy and for blocking
the enemy's ninja tools. Although you can block them while dashing, this is
used to avoid any danger by being close to the enemy.
4.SHURIKEN CANCEL
Executed by pressing [] before the character finishes his combo. Very useful
to make the enemy not to KNJ. Using this may lead you to jutsus, other combos.
5.SQUARE CANCEL
Executed by pressing [] in mid-air. Used for getting back at a neutral stance
after an aerial combo.
6.JUTSU/OUGI TIMED ATTACK
Use ougis or jutsu combos(look up) when an enemy is falling. A useful trick in
using the jutsus because the enemy can hardly KNJ.
7.GROUND TECH
Press X just before you hit the ground. This will make your character kip
up from the fall and does some sort of backstep. Useful to avoid losing
chakra from a combo.
8.WALL TECH
Press X just before you hit the wall from a combo. Use to avoid losing chakra
from a combo and to avoid more combos.
9.SPIN TECH
Press X just before you are spinning from a combo. Recovers from that spin,
and brings you back at a neutral stance.
10.INFINITES
These are combos that are executed until the enemy is dead. Infinites are
usually done when your enemy is out of chakra or sealed by an item. Many
characters have their infinites. Such as..
SASUKE - Back + O (Air Grab) + X-Dash then repeat until enemy is dead.

7. ULTIMATE CONTEST [07]

This mode is basically the huge chunk of the game, where you mostly unlock
most of the games unlockables including characters, jutsus and more.
This section will cover all of those.
Also, here are things you need to know.
-By pressing /\, you will go to the menu. Here you can save, take missions,
change locations, customize charactes or check items.
-Missions are recommended to be taken after you finish the main story.
-To change locations, simply select Map Movement on the menu and choose
an area.
-Scrolls are used to exchanged with items in the GENERAL STORE. Those ITEMS
are used by characters so you can use the Ultimate Jutsus they have.
-The GENERAL STORE is located at the southern part of the Leaf Village. It is
beside the SUZUKI ESTATE.
-The MERCHANT is the man who sells items. He is located in the middle-part
of the Leaf Village. He's the man who carries a bag behind him. Those items
are used to date the characters. Learn more about this in the DATING SYSTEM
SECTION. He is also important in the main story.

to her and she will give you a SLOT COIN.You can use this later on.
-Then go on to the second dot left. That will lead you to the gate entrance to
the Hokage's Mansion. Talk to Raido then press YES.
-You are now inside the Hokage's Office. Talk to Shizune and she'll tell you
that she's missing something. Go outside again.
-Another dot appeared again, and it's near you. In that area, look for a shiny
object on the ground. That is the HANDBOOK OF POISONS Shizune was talking
about.
Go back to the office.
-Talk to Shizune again and choose 2. TRY SHIZUNE'S QUESTIONS and she'll ask
you three questions. Here are the answers:

9.1 BASICS [091]

In this mode you can fight with the AI or with your friends, via the second
controller.
Some basic facts on VS Duel.
-The random character option is activated by pressing the "?" on the middle of
the select screen.
-To change the dress colors of the characters, simply press R1. The default
color is represented by 1, and two other colors are available, represented by
2 and 3.
-After you selected a character, an option appears, like this:

By choosing YES, you go to a customize screen.At the top, you can see the
character's picture then their name. Beside your name, you can see stats with
up arrows and down arrows. Those stats represents your character's stats after
they perform a certain Ultimate Jutsu. Of course, stats are different in every
Ultimate Jutsu you choose.
Below, you can see 2 rectangles. The top rectangle shows, 2 rows of text.
These texts are the jutsus you use in battle.
By pressing X when the top rectangle is selected, you now go again to another
menu screen, with two rectangles again. These two rectangles are the jutsus
you use. By pressing one of the rectangles, you can now choose jutsus that you
can unlock from Ultimate Contest. Of course, if you haven't unlocked anything,
the choices there are the character's 2 default jutsus.
Back to the main, customize screen. By pressing the bottom rectangle, you will
now go again to another screen. You can now again see two rectangles. One
small and one large. In that small rectangle, you can choose the press style
you will do when you perform an Ultimate Jutsu.
Press will make the button presses just like the 1st Ultimate Ninja.
Mash will make you mash a certain button.
Rotate will make you rotate an analog stick repeatedly.
Choose wisely.
By pressing the larger rectangle, you can choose the Ultimate Jutsu you will
use during battle. You can unlock other Ultimate Jutsus by leveling them up in
Ultimate Contest. (Guy's Dojo)
-After you choose your characters and customize them. The game will take you
to the stage select screen. All stages are unlocked already, so no hassle.
-After you chose a stage, it will take you to the last screen, showing the
two characters that will fight.
Pressing /\ will take you back to the select stage screen.
Pressing X will start the battle.
Pressing [] will take you to the battle settings

-choosing EASY will make the AI rarely attack. It rarely uses KNJ.

seconds.

for every character. But that's really all that's in Iruka's Training.

Here you can play with yourself, with the AI or with your friend.
One tip in playing this mini-game is to use the directional buttons and press
only once if you move.
Other than that is simple timing.
NICE GUY'S EXERCISES
There are 3 games in this one.
PUSH UP GAME
-Rapidly press O as fast as you can. If AI is normal, it can push up to
20-30, if hard, up to 40! Anyway, my maximum push-ups here is 46.
BREATH IN AND OUT
-Press /\ if meter is above and X if meter is below. It gets faster every
time you hit it right. My max here is 14.
DANCE DANCE NINJA REVOLUTION
-Press the corresponding button if it's in the circle. The buttons
sometimes disappear or shrink! It can get even faster!
TENTEN'S EXERCISE
Press the corresponding button on a target dummy if it appears. If a target
dummy has a vest, don't press the button. Finally, the boss appears and you
have to press the two buttons on it repeatedly.
My technique here is to put both the pair of my hands on the cotroller and
rapidly press all buttons! All of that will put all your shurikens first
before Tenten's. Of course, if you spot the target dummy with a vest, stop
immediately and continue.
