Added descriptions for the weapon types. 4/4/06: Put a lot of work into the Faq, added a menu translation guide and completed it. Pretty sure I've listed all of the quests, cept Kirin. Need to complete the ancient dragon season list... 4/8/06: Added Lao's quest. Added Faq section. Added some seasonal information. 4/20/06: Took some stuff out, added some new stuff. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 1. Intro xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx I guess I've become the import Faq guy... I've written the first guide to G, the one for MHP/F.. And now this one. This guide will cover as much of MH2 as it can. Keep in mind that I can only read about 65% of it, so if a "translation" seems out of place, tough cookies. None of the information is inaccurate. If an item seems out of place, then yes, email/IM me. Don't IM/email me about ANYTHING on the guide or I'll throw fire balls at you. This guide will cover the offline quests first. Keep in mind that xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 2. GamePlay And Tips xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 101 ===============================Menu Translations================================ There are Many Menus... This is basically a list of old weapon types that have new crap added on to them. Bows: Block ability for certain bows. Duals: Strike faster, can use items when drawn. Lance: None Great Swords: Charge Strike. Hammers: Built In KO element. Short Swords: Can use items when drawn, status elements more effective. ==============================Control Set Up==================================== I won't be listing the weapon controls, this is just "basic" stuff. Default Controls: D-Pad: Navigate Menus, rotate Camera. Select: Map toggle/ Sorts items in Menu Start: Brings up Menu L1: Snap Camera foward L2: Hold for item bracket [hold it down] L3[Button]: Signal L3:[Stick]: Move R1: Block R2: Run/Climb Faster R3[Button]: Kick R3:[Stick]: Pull Out Weapon/Attack []: Use item/ Disable Display with Menu open/Move item bracket left X: Roll/ Cancel O: Carve/ Confirm/ Move item bracket right Triangle: Brings up On-screen Keyboard. This will grant you the ability to fight Iyanguruga, and get some other nifty stuff.. For MHP: You get Iyanguruga as a "solid" fight. You get the MH2 chef cats. You get short cuts for weapons new and old. The old woman who randomly sells items will often sell better stuff. For MH2: Permanent Iyanguruga for offline and online. Weapon Shortcuts. The afro-cat and old lady show up a little more often. You get a current Monster List for free. =========================Recommended Weapons/Armor============================== All right, this is basically going to be what the topic says. I'm not going to get all "zomg lolz" with this, because everyone has their own style. What one person might think "roxorz" might suck to someone else. Here we go -------------------------------------Weapons------------------------------------ Name: Anchor Hammer Type: Hammer Attack: 780 Element: 340[Water] Sharpness: Desent Green Slots: 2 Path: Chain Hammer> Anchor Hammer Name: Chrome Razor Type: Great Sword Attack: 816 Element: 320 [Poison] Sharpness: Decent Green Slots: None Path: Chrome Razor> Chrome Death Razor [Online only] Name: Death Prize Type: Short Sword Attack: 210 Element: 260[Stun] Sharpness: Desent Green Slots: 2 Path: Hunter's Knife> Hunter's Knife+> Serpent Bite> Serpent Bite+> Hydra Bite> Death Prize Name: Dragon Blur *Dragon Breaker in English* Type: Hammer Attack: 884 Element: 330 [Dragon] Sharpness: tons-o-green Slots: None Path: Dragon Troy> Dragon Blur Name: Dragon Sword [Lotus] Type: Samurai Blade Attack: 816 Element: 480 [Dragon] Sharpness: Desent Green Slots: 1 Path: DS[Fire]> DS[Lotus] Name: Dragon Treasure Type: Short Sword Attack: 196 Element: 120 [Dragon] Sharpness: Desent Green Slots: 3 Path: Decayed Dragon Treasure> Dragon Treasure Name: Eagle Cleaver: Orge Destruction Type: Samurai Blade Attack: 672 Element: 470 [Thunder] Sharpness: Desent Green Slots: 1 Path: Iron Kitana > Iron Kitana+> Iron Kitana [Grace]> Iron Kitana [Gospel]> Eagle Cleaver> Eagle Cleaver: OD Name: Great Bagpipe Type: Hunter Horn Attack: 780 Element: +18 Defense (yeah, that's pretty high) Sharpness: Desent Green Slots: 2 Path: Metal Bagpipe> Great Bagpipe Name: Military Sword [Jishi Dance] Type: Samurai Blade Attack: 576 Element: 360 [Fire] Sharpness: Desent Green Slots: None Path: MS>MS[JD] Name: NaNa [Lower] Type: GunLance Attack: 368 Shot Type: Level 2 Spread Shot Sharpness: Ok Blue Slots: None Path: NN[Howl]>NN[Lower] Name: Prominence Bow II Type: Bow Attack: 200? This section will grow slower than the weapon section... Simply because armor is kinda harder to make/level up than weapons are. Name: Iyanguruga Max Lvl: 5 Defense: 120> 135> 170> 190> 210 Dragon: 0 Fire: 10 Ice: 0 Thunder: 10 Water: 0 Skills: Abandonment +1, Picking -2 Path: IG1>IG2>IG3>IG4>IG5 This is a pretty damn good armor set if you take the time to make it and level it up. Sucks to be people who don't have MHP/F, as they'll be missing out on this awesome looking armor. I don't recommend using this if you plan on mining, so make it as a back up armor, or as your "default combat" armor. Name: Kushal Max Lvl: 1? Defense: 195> ??? Dragon: -15 Fire: 0 Ice: 20 Thunder: -10 Water: 10 Skills: Small Topography, Quick HP Recovery Path: KL1>? This is my personal default armor. An all-rounder, this armor is pretty damn good aganst most of your foes. Thunder and Dragon elements are rarely used against you, so its not like they'll be a problem. If you're one for fighting in bad environments, ST skill is great for making sure you suffer little damage... On top of that QHPR makes it so you'll BARELY NOTICE any damage at all. *With certain Gems, you can give this set heat damage halved* xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 3. The New Weapon Types xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx New weapon types? BAH! Anyway, this list will basically explain how they work. I'll go into minor detail for now, then when I continue working on this, add stuff. =================================Gun Lances===================================== Gunlances are slow and somewhat useless in ranged battles. Does this mean they suck? Well, kinda. Does that mean they're useless? No. They have some power behind them and most of the time, their shots are fire elemented... [Take that, Khezu!] Most GL's have "normal" shot types. But there is also a pierce and pellet type of shot. Not only that, some have elemental types outside of fire elements. They're good for combos, but don't expect to nail something with an infinite combo that DOES NOT EXIST. Controls: R1: Block R3[Button]: Shoot R3[Button]+ R1: Charge Blast R3[down]+R1: Reload R3[down]: Upper Cut R3[left]: Straight Attack R3[right]:Straight Attack R3[Up]: Straight Attack R3[Up]+ L3[Up]: Dash Stab R1+ R3[Up]: Diagonal stab Combos: Basically, combos are almost all the same. Stab, Stab, Stab, Shoot x1-5. Shoot1-5 Stab-1-3- Shoot 1-5, Stab 1-3. Stab 1-3, Shoot 1-5, Stab 1-3. You can only stab 3 times, (1-3) and you can only shoot up to 5 times (1-5). Also, you CAN mix up some charge Blasts in there, but its harder to combo in than most stabs. The Diagonal Stab is GREAT for setting up shots/combos as well so don't be afraid to use it. ===============================Hunter's Horns=================================== Horns are like their brothers, the Hammer. They're slow but deal massive damage. Another nifty trick is the fact that they can boost status effects, give your party members elemental resistances and even give them ear plug. While playing your songs, you're not left completely open either, as you can counter attack your foes. Controls: Coming Soon Combos: Coming Soon =================================Long Bows====================================== A nice addition if I do say so myself. These are pretty damn powerful and they have many uses. You can throw on a stun oil and give your melee attack stun element. You can sometimes fire more than one arrow at a time. Sometimes you can give them pierce. You normally can boost their power with an oil as well. This is probably one of the best new weapon types, and it does fall into "gunner settings" so prepare to make some gunner armor for your bowmen-women. Controls: R1: Aim Line R3[Button]: Equip selected Oil R3[down]: Cock the Bow back R3[left]: Melee R3[right]:Melee R3[Up]: Melee [X]: Hop <after an attack> L2+[Triangle]: Toggle Oil Selection Up L2+ X: Toggle Oil Selection Down How To use: Um.... Notice I don't have combos here? Good. Whenever you cock the bow back, you'll glow 3 times if you hold it long enough. That means you're at level 3 charge power. Each charge level grants your arrows different ablities. Sometimes level 1 (no charge at all) will grant you 2 arrows, while level 3 will grant you 5. Sometimes level 2 will grant you 3 arrows, while level 3 grants you a single pierce... Its up to you to learn the timing on the levels. ===============================Samurai Blades=================================== "IT IS THE NEW GS!?" No. Well, maybe. These act NOTHING like their brothers the Great Sword. Infact, they're the complete opposite. The "noobs" with this weapon type will often find themselves dying.... A lot. This is a pretty hard type to use (at first, but then again so is G.lance.) These are a great change of pace in the MH world and they're pretty useful once you master them. Controls: R1: Unleash the Fury (tap multiple times when you have some guage filled) R3[Button]: Stab R3[down]: Back-hop Slash R3[left]: Left Slice R3[right]: Back-hop Slash R3[Up]: Overhead Slash R3[Up]+ L3[Up]: Dash into Overhead slash Combos: Like the gunlance, this thing has tons of combo power... Stab, Overhead, Left Slice, Repeat... Stab, Overhead, Left Slice, R1... Stab, Overhead, Backhop Slash These are just a few. I'm sure you'll use your own. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 4. Offline Quests xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx =================================How To Use===================================== All right, this is basically how to use this section of the FAQ. I suggest looking it over before taking on a quest you're unsure of. *Key* Quest: - Name of Quest, sometimes not the "official" given name. Season: - Season(s) the quest is available to you. Listed by color(s). [B/G/Y] Area: Which Area the quest takes place in. Objective: -The Reason you're on the quest. Complete it to end it. Manditory. Sub A: Sub objective "1". Complete it for more rewards/Zeni. Optional. Sub B: Sub objective "2". Complete it for more rewards/Zeni. Optional. ==============================General Quest Info================================ I won't be covering Trial Mode or Tuturial Quests (yet anyway). This is all stuff you post at one of the bars. Anyway, onward to the GQI. The quests are also not in any special order. So don't whine to me about them being "out of order". Quest Types Are: 1. Hunting- Slay, Capture or Repel the monster to win. 2. Gather- Bring requested items to the red box. 3. Trial- You get one life. These are never in "regular" quests. 4. Special- ???? 1. 95% of the time, its a HUNTING quest. 2. You can CHOOSE whether to kill or catch a monster[if its catchable]. 3. You almost always have 3 lives available to you. The only acception offline is Trial Mode. 4. Days, Nights, Seasons affect which monsters come out. Keep this in mind before running off to kill 8 Velociprey or killing seasonal/nocturnal monsters. 5. While subquests are OPTIONAL, 9/10 they're more than worth doing. 6. You can end quests AFTER completing one or both subquests. You just won't get a lot of rewards. 7. Certain Monsters have parts that you can only 'break' with an element. These will have * next to their names. 8. When in doubt, bring extra items. Doesn't hurt to be prepared. Infact, it never hurts to be. ****READ THIS BEFORE WHINING TO ME ABOUT HOW TO COMPLETE QUESTS************ I will be updating this. When I do, most of the details on how to complete quests will be well... Completed. So just sit tight. ========================Villager "Important Want Lists"========================= By completing any number of blue bubble objectives, you'll eventually open up the red ones. The list of red bubbles will be coming soon... ********************************SEASON CLOSINGS********************************* This is basically when a season disallows you to go to a certain area. Faq xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx This is basically how I'm going to answer questions from now on. If someone asks any question via email, it'll be answered here. No matter how foolish it is... Q. Why can't I keep the wyverns I catch? A. You can only keep captured wyverns online. Q. Can I catch Kushal/Nana/Teo/Oonazuchi? A. Offline... Negative. Online... Well probably not. Q. Why doesn't your Faq have 'quest codes'? A. The quests do NOT have a visable code by default. So it will not be listed. Q. Do you play Online? A. No. Thank you, bills. Q. What's Kushal's Armor Skills? A. I guess you'll have to wait until I make a weapon/armor section or something. Q. What do Ornaments do? A. They're used to add skill points to your weapon and armor. Normally, armor has at least one slot, so you could either boost a skill or add another one. Q. What is your favorite weapon? A. Chrome Razor> you. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx 6.
