HOW TO PLAY THE GAME---------------------------- ======================================================================== Set up your Playstation 2 computer entertainment system according to the instruction supplied with your system. Then wait for the game to load into your T.V. screen. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- BASICS ST01 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Well, before you play the game, I suggest that you scan (not read) your instructional booklet to familiarize yourself with the controls and the gameplay of the game. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- CALENDAR ST02 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The time you spend in the game is represented in weeks. Each week you spend is represented in a calendar. All of the weeks in a calendar make up a term. There are 12 terms in the game that represents your entire career at the Academy. There are three types of weeks: Events, Classes, and Free Time ----- EVENT ----- These are the scenes that reveal more about the story. Each term starts and ends with an event. Sometimes, events are just spoken dialogues that the players need to see in order to progress in the game, but other times, events require you to explore an area and complete certain objectives in order to progress in the game ------- CLASSES ------- Classes are compose of assignments that you have to complete in order to progress in the story. Each assignment is different. You either have to explore a dungeon, synthesize something, or fight a boss. Each assignment has their own level of difficulty, the very early classes are easy to accomplish, but later on, the assignments will become tougher. After you completed an assignment, you will be given a grade. Each grade you get will earn you units, which you need in order to pass the term. --------- FREE TIME --------- If you accumulated enough units, you will get a free time. In a free time, you can do whatever you want. You can either do side quests, explore the dungeon you already visite, gather items for your synthesis, or sleep in your dormitory. However, if you didn't accumulate enough units, you will get a detention. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- LEVELING UP SYSTEM ST03 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Instead of a traditional level-up system, Mana Khemia offers a different way to increase your stats. In order to increase your stats, you need to use the Grow Book. Grow Book is a very important tool in the game. It tracks the personal growth of all your characters, and it is the key to make your characters stronger. Grow Book is like a grid where a series of slots are connected. In order to unlock 1 grid, you need to get that item through synthesis. When you open up a slot, a series of skills will be unlocked. Use the AP you gained from defeating enemies to purchase these skills. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- SYNTHESIS ST04 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- There are two kinds of synthesis in the game: The Co-op synthesis and Althanor Synthesis. Co-op synthesis can be done inside your Workshop. In Co-op Synthesis, you can synthesize items and materials that you need for battles, grow books and also equipments. The Althanor Synthesis can be done in the Althanor Room, located in the Workshop Hallway (adjacent to your Workshop). In Althanor Synthesis, you can synthesize weapons, equipments and accessories that you can equip onto your characters to boost their stats. In order for you to actually synthesize anything, you need ingredients that you can find anywhere in the world map or buy from the shops. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- DUNGEONS ST05 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- There are many dungeons around the Academy and you will going to explore most of them as you progress in the story. Inside the dungeons, you can gather ingredients you need for your synthesis. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- TIME ST06 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Time passes when you explore a dungeon. It passes in the form of Day > Afternoon > Night > Morning. There are some ingredients that you can gather only during Morning and Nightime. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- COMBAT ST07 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- The combat in Mana Khemia is similar to Atelier Iris 3 where you can completely avoid fighting the enemies by either dodging them or destroy them with a sword-slash. ----- ENEMY ----- There are two types of enemies lurking inside a dungeon: Big and small. The small ones are the easiest to defeat while the big ones are the enemies that you need to avoid since they are more aggresive and stronger. ------ BATTLE ------ Battles in Mana Khemia are straightforward. The enemies are position in the left while your party is on the right. Only three of your characters can fight in a battle while the other three act as your support. Battles are conducted in turns until one side wins. ------------------ CARD SYSTEM (ACCB) ------------------ One of the first thing that you need to look when the battle starts is the bar located in the top-left corner. The bar is consist of 16 cards which contain a face of a character and monster, as well as time cards. Characters or enemies with the higher speed will start with their cards on the right side. Each time an enemy or a character takes an action, his or her card will move further down the line, and the cards will cycle through to the next card. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- SHOPS ST08 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Another way to gather ingredients is by going to the Shops. There are various shops located inside the Academy. Not only that they sell you ingredients, but also provide you with recipes you need for synthesis. Each shop will upgrade their stock every time a new term starts, so make sure that you check them often. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ADDITIONAL NOTES ST09 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ------------------- HINT, INFO, and TIP ------------------- While reading the guide, you will come across some hints, infos, and tips that I provided to help you progress the game. You don't have to follow them if you don't want to. ------- COMPASS ------- N / / / W _ _ _ _ _ / O - - - - - E / / / / S I decided to draw this compass to help the players navigate the area while searching for items or locations without getting lost. ======================================================================== --------------------------II. A BOY... AND ALCHEMY CH01 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ____________ ORIENTATION \ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ When you can control Vayne, exit the classroom and you will be in the campus map. In here, visit the Student Affairs, Student Store, and the Infirmary. You need to visit all three to progress in the story. --------------- STUDENT AFFAIRS --------------- You will meet Arsha here. This is where you will accept your assignments and jobs throughout the game. ------------- STUDENT STORE ------------- You will meet Leyte and Hagel here. This is where you can buy some of the ingredients and recipes you need for synthesis. More items will become available as you progress in the story. Items Money Dirt 10 Cole Eicheloa 10 Cole Gear 30 Cole Normal Paper 100 Cole Canone Rock 120 Cole Thunder Stone 240 Cole Glacier Stone 220 Cole --------- INFIRMARY --------- You will meet Melanie here. This is where you can buy medicine, ingredients, and recipes you need for synthesis. This is also where you will end up when your party got knocked out. More items will become available as you progress in the story. Exit this place for a scene. When you regain control, go to the large faucet to obtain the item x10. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* TIP: MAKING MONEY #1 Actually, you can get 99 clearwaters by standing near the faucet every five seconds, and you can sell these for 1 Cole. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* Anyway, speak with Nikki to progress in the story. _______ WEEK 1 \ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ When you regain control, you will be in the campus map again with more locations. You don't have to visit every location if you don't want to. Just go to the Student Affairs to progress in the story. However, if you want to explore everything, then go ahead. -------------- CAMPUS GROUNDS -------------- You will get a scene if you go here, and also there's a street vendor that sells ingredients for synthesis. Just like the Student Store and Infirmary, the vendor will also sell some recipes and ingredients needed for synthesis. More items will appear as you progress in the story. Items Money Puniball 20 Cole Gash Twig 10 Cole Legien Steel 100 Cole --------- CAFETERIA --------- You can also buy some ingredients here for synthesis too. After the scene, [LIVING FOREST] has been added to your list of locations. Choose Off Campus, then Living Forest. ------------- LIVING FOREST ------------- Random Items: Blue Petal, Woodchip, Wild Meat, Beast Fang, Spinacherb, Uni Treasure Chests: 200 Cole, 150 Cole, 100 Cole, Wooden Club Enemies: Koalaria, Ariel, Mandragora, Bear Enemy Spoils: Woodchip (Koalaria & Mandragora), Glacier Stone (Ariel), Wild Meat (Bear) *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* INFO: ITEMS AND ENEMIES The items you receive from parcels, grasses, barrels, boxes are random, but these items will reappear again when you reenter the area. Items that can be found inside the treasure chests are permanent, and they will not reappear again after you obtained them. The enemies lurking around the area will become more aggressive and stronger at night, so my advice is not to fight them during that time. You can either exit the area and reenter to reset the time, or you can just wait for the night to pass. There are two types of enemies lurking in each area: A big one and a small one. Small ones are enemies that you can defeat easily, and the big ones are enemies that you need to avoid since they are very aggressive and strong. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* ------- COMPASS ------- N / / / W _ _ _ _ _ / O - - - - - E / / / / S When you enter the forest, you will automatically obtain the item and your first battle. ************************************************************************ BOSS: KOALARIA x3 Basically, this battle is a tutorial. All you need to do is to fight them with regular attacks until you defeat them. ************************************************************************ *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* INFO: HEALING ECHO (ALPHA) This skill is very useful since its effect lasted for three turns. Cast it only once and it will heal you three times before it dissappears. This skill can only be used by Jess and you will use it a lot of times especially during Boss Battles. INFO: HEART CRACKER This skill is very interesting since using this will gain you hearts which will let you summon enemies during battles. This skill can only be used by Nikki so use it wisely. In order to summon them, use Nikki's Summon Friend skill. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* 2 items down and 1 more to go. The item can be found in the grasses. Since the items you get from grasses are random, there is a possibility that you can get the item in the this area, or the next one, so make sure that you cut every grass you see. From the entrance, follow the path to the next screen. In this area, follow the path until you reach a fork (the one with an arrow shaped sign). Go E to find a chest contiaing <200 Cole>. Now go back to the fork and jump on the ledges to reach the top, then go to the next screen. In this area, follow the path until you reach another fork, go W to find a chest containing <150 Cole>. Take the other path S to reach another fork. In this fork, take the N path to find a chest containing <100 Cole>, then take the other path to the next screen. In this area, grab the chest containing for Nikki, so equip it. That's it for this area (we will going back here later), so use the wings of icarus to teleport back to the Academy. However, before you do that make sure that you have the Spinacherb with you. Head for the Faculty Room to get a scene. After the scene, you will get a recipe, and a . *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* TIP: GETTING A IS BETTER THAN GETTING B, C, OR F! After you turned in your assignment, you will be graded according to your performance. Getting A will get you 4 units, B will get you 3 units, C will get you 2 Units, and F will get you nothing. At the end of your current term, all your units will be counted. If you meet the required units, then you will get a Free Time. If you didn't meet the required units, then you will get a Detention. Free Time and Detention will be explained more later in the guide. Getting more As will lead you to have more free times and there are things that you can only do during free times, so I suggest that you try to get as many [A]s as you can. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* _______ WEEK 2 \ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Go directly to the Student Affairs for your next assignment. +=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+= ASSIGNMENT Combat I Basics - Win the consecutive battle against the monster mob! After the scene, you will get , , , , and a . *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ HINT: UPGRADE YOUR GROW BOOK AS MUCH AS YOU CAN! Instead of a traditional level-up system, Mana Khemia offers a different way to increase your stats. In order to increase your stats, you need to use your Grow Book. Grow Book is like a grid where a series of slots are connected. In order to unlock 1 grid you need to get that item through synthesis. Even though you have that item in your inventory, the Grow Book will not accept it if you didn't synthesize it. When you open up a slot, a series of skills will be unlocked. Use the AP you gained from defeating enemies to learn these skills. These skills will come in handy during boss fights. HINT: ALWAYS SYNTHESIZE EVERYTHING! Just like what I said before, you don't need the item in your inventory in order for the Grow Book to accept it. As long as you synthesize that item, the Grow Book will accept it. Since this guide tends you to get every item on the game! You don't need to search every nook and cranny for a specific item you need for your Grow Book, I will provide it for you. HINT: BUYING RECIPES! Since you already know how to synthesize, you can now buy the recipes in the shops. Each shop will upgrade their stocks at the beginning of each chapter so make sure to check them often. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ Exit the hallway and [WIND'S CORRIDOR] has been added to your list of locations. Before you go there, I suggest that you buy some Heal Jars and Nectars from the Infirmary since the next dungeon is a little bit harder. Once you're ready, choose Off Campus, then Wind's Corridor. --------------- WIND'S CORRIDOR --------------- Random Items: Puniball, Flour, Uni, Heal Jar, Wild Meat, Cyprus Copper Treasure Chests: Hammery Hammer, Nectar, Lovely Bag Enemies: Mini Puri, Puri, Cyclone Mana, Trumpet Lily, Tiger, Owl Bear Enemy Spoils: Puniball (Mini Puni & Puni), Wild Meat (Owl Bear), Beast Fang (Tiger), Red Petal (Tiger Lily), Thunder Stone (Cyclone Mana) *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ TIP: MONSTER JUMPING You can evade an enemy through Jumping by pressing the Circle Button. This will come in handy when the enemies are trying to charge at you especially the big ones. TIP: MONEY MAKING #2 Since random items reappear once you exit the place, this is another way to make money. Although it is slow, you can still get some cole out of it. TIP: CHEAT THE NIGHT! Since enemies are stronger and more aggressive during the night, then here's another tip. You can cheat the night by going to an area where there is no enemy and stand there. Leave the game and do something for a while, then come back when it is daytime. However, there are times when this trick is useless since there are some assignments or jobs that you need to do during the Night. Don't worry though since there is another way to do it, and I'll tell you when you really need it. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ ------- COMPASS ------- N / / / W _ _ _ _ _ / O - - - - - E / / / / S Go all the way to the N, then head E at the fork to get some items. Go all the way to the W to find a chest containing . Now, head N and then E to get a scene. After the scene, you will get the . *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ TIP: MAPPING The map is a very useful tool in this game. To access your map, press the START button. Your map consists of a Gather Point (which you will get info later) and Target Location. Every time you enter a new area, the map will automatically mark it for you so you don't have to search every nook and cranny of that area in order to put it in your map. In the map, you can see the target location. Target Location tells you your destination, so make sure to check your map when you don't know where to go. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ Go S (E path is being blocked for now) and descend the stairs to the next screen. In this area, follow the path until you reach a fork, go S descending the stairs to find a chest containing . Return to the fork and take the other path. Follow it to find another chest containing , then continue heading E to the next screen. In this area, you will find the boss, but I suggest that you return to the Academy and do some synthesizing. Since you have the Hammery Hammer and Lovely Bag recipes, you can now synthesize new weapons for Nikki and Jess. You can get the ingredients from the shops and the places you've been through like the Living Forest and Wind's Corridor. Remember that you can synthesize items and materials in the Workshop. For equipments, you can synthesize in the Althanor Room. [Zettel] - Spinacherb/ Gash Twig - Carrotato - Clearwater/ Goat Milk Buy the recipe from the Student Store in order to make a zettel. [Favorite Bag] - Puniball - Blue Petal - Zettel Now, synthesize Nikki's Weapon. You can see that there are missing ingredients for Nikki's Weapon. However, you can still synthesize it through Item Switching. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ INFO: ITEM SWITCHING Through item switching, you can make new items without using the "real ingredients". You can make them by using substitute ingredients. For example, you can use substitute ingredients for the Crack Hammer by using the ingredients from the shops. [Crack Hammer] - Canone Rock - Legien Steel - Carrotato - Gear Make sure that you put the Flame Gaze in your weapon since the next boss is weak against fire. Now, equip those weapons to Jess and Nikki. We will be using item switching in the future so pay attention to the ingredients you will be getting through out the game. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ Also, you can now synthesize the item on Vayne's Grow Book. [Flour] - Spinacherb - Carrotato/ Gash Twig Buy the recipe from the Cafeteria in order to make Flour. After making the flour, you can now synthesize . *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ INFO: WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF ETHER LEVEL (E-LEVEL)? Ether Effects are very useful, they can raise the critical rate of an item, or even give your normal attacks an instant kill. Basically, they are the key behind making your characters stronger. The higher the Ether Level of an item is, the more refine it becomes. You will get different results everytime you either raise or lower the E-Level of an item. If you want to know all the E-Effects of all the items, please refer to the "Usable Items" and "Material Items" section of this guide. You can use these effects when forging your equipments to boost their stats. To change the E-Level of an item, you can either use your Character's Support Cards or the Alchemy Circle's Timing. INFO: SUPPORT CARDS In order to access these cards, you need to press Square during synthesis. Some of these cards are very useful especially Jess' Plus 10 Ability and Nikki's E-Level reset to 0 Ability, but these abilities appears randomly, so if you want these abilities to appear, you have to keep using them during Synthesis. More cards will become available as you progress in the story. INFO: ALCHEMY CIRCLE TIMING (ELEMENTAL WHEEL) During synthesis, you can control the E-Level by selecting the proper element on the Alchemy Circle Timing (Elemental Wheel). The Elemental Wheel spins clockwise in this order: Water > Fire > Neutral > Wind > Earth. The Water Icon is in Blue color, Fire Icon is in Red, Neutral Icon is in Gray, Wind Icon is in Green, and Earth Icon is in Yellow. If you select an Element that matches the element of the ingredient, the E-Level will increase by 10 points. If you pick the anti-element, the E-Level will decrease by 10 points. Water's anti-element is Fire, Fire's anti-element is Wind, Wind's anti- element is Earth, and Earth's anti-element is Water. If there is no anti-element, then there is no reaction. On the other hand, the Neutral Icon causes the E-Level to either increase or decrease by a random amount, or no reaction at all. TIP: EASY ETHER MANAGEMENT Are you having a hard time figuring out which item has what element? Look at the box directly below the picture during the synthesis. The color of the box corresponds with the element on the Alchemy Circle's Timing. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ Now synthesize another flour. You will see that there's a light bulb icon near the flour, that light bulb icon means Recipe Derivation. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ INFO: RECIPE DERIVATION Derivation means to modify or to change something. In order for new items to appear in the game you need to do some derivation. For example, synthesize a Flour using a Legien Steel as one of your ingredients, you will see that Vayne came up with another idea for an item. And that item is called Polish Powder. You will do some recipe derivation in the game so pay attention to those light bulb icons in the future. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ [Polish Powder] - Legien Steel/ Cyprus Copper - Canone Rock / Glacier Stone/ Thunderstone Okay, now you're ready to face the boss. However, before you go back there, make sure that you buy some Heal Jars and Nectars from the Infirmary. --------------- WIND'S CORRIDOR --------------- Go back to the area with the boss and approach it. Make sure that you don't fight it during night. Now, touch it to start the battle. ************************************************************************ BOSS: MINI PUNI x3 PUNI x3 RED PUNI x3 RED PUNI x3, PLATINUM PUNI Okay, you will fight four consecutive battles. First battle will be 3 mini punis. These guys are very easy so don't waste any skill at them, just use regular attacks. Next will be 3 Punis, these guys are again easy, don't waste any skill at them. Now for the third battle, I still suggest not to waste any skill at them eventhough they're a little hard. Just focus your attack on one puni at a time. Use your Heal Jars if you are low on health. For the last fight, you will fight 3 red punis and a platinum puni. This one is hard especially if you aren't prepared. The first thing you need to do is cast Jess' Healing Echo, then use Nikki's Flame Gaze and watch your Burst Gauge fills up quickly. Now keep using Flame Gaze until you activate Burst Mode. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ INFO: BURST MODE (BURST VARIATION) In Burst Mode, your damage inflicted on the enemy will double. In order to increase your Burst Gauge quickly, you need exploit the enemy's weakness. For example, since the punis are weak against fire, use Nikki's Flame Wave to inflict more damage. This will cause your Burst Gauge to fill up quickly. In order to exploit the enemy's weakness, you need to use Vayne's Analyze skill. Make sure that you become familiar with it since you will using Burst Mode often. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ During Burst Mode, unleash your powerful skills (Lightning, Ice Storm, Heart Cracker) on the platinum puni until you defeat it. After you defeated it, use the same strategy from the third battle to beat the red punis. ************************************************************************ After the battle, you will receive . You can now return to the Academy. New items have appeared in the Student Store. ------------- STUDENT STORE ------------- Items Money Standard Uniform - M 100 Cole Standard Uniform - F 100 Cole Head for the Student Affair, then speak with Arsha for a scene. _______ WEEK 3 \ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ After the scene, you will receive recipe. Take the N path until you see a stairs going down to your right. Descend it and go to the next screen. In this area, approach the pond to start your assignment. Read the tutorial to learn how to fish. Basically, all you have to do is to land the cursor within the orange area of the gauge to catch something. To get an A, you must catch a fish at least 6 times without catching any monsters. However if you catch a monster, then you need to get at least 7 fishes to get an A. If you catch 2 monsters, then you need to get 8 fishes (You get the idea right?). Well there's a trick to prevent you from getting a monster. All you have to do is when the orange cursor is larger than the blue cursor (I mean very large that you can barely see the blue cursor), then don't press anything. Chances are that is a monster. After two hours have passed, you will get a scene. Teleport back to the Academy and head for the Student Affairs to earn your stamp. _______ WEEK 3 \ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ To learn more about the Gossip Shop, please refer to the Side Quest section of this guide. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ TIP: CHECK THE GOSSIP SHOP VERY OFTEN! Since there is no pressing deadlines, this is a good time for you to gather items, to explore dungeon, or to sythesize items that you have missed. You can end the free time at anytime by heading over to you dormitory and taking a nice nap, but if you do that, you will miss the other two options available only during Free Time: Character Quests and Jobs. INFO: JOBS Jobs are mini-quests that appear on the bulletin board in the Student Affairs. You need to talk to Arsha first in order to access them. The list of Job available changes every term, so if you miss a job or don't complete it, then that job won't become available on the next term. It is important not to miss any job since job can give you AP, Cole, and some rare recipes. For more information about Jobs, please refer to the Side Quest section of this guide. INFO: CHARACTER QUEST The other thing that you can do during free time is to spend your time with the people in your Workshop. In order to do a Character Quest, simply go to the Workshop and speak with whomever you like. You can only do one character quest per free time, and doing character quest will prevent you from getting the bad ending of the game. Actually, I already explained it to you (If you read the info about "Formation"), you just have to perform it during battle. After the scene, you will get . *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* INFO: STARSHOT Starshot is one of Flay's great skill. It provides a source of constant damage at a very low cost of SP, and hits a decent number of times. Furthermore, it increase your Burst Gauge somewhat quickly. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* Okay, you need to remember that this assignment has a time limit. In order to get an A, you need to mine ALL 3 (not 2) gather points. 2 gather points can be found in your map and the third one is hidden, so you need to find it. Since getting A is our first priority, we will going to skip some of the treasure chests for now. Okay, from the entrance head N, then ascend the stairs to your left. Follow the path until you find a chest containing <600 Cole>. Keep following the path until you find another chest containing . Ascend those stairs and keep following the path to the next screen. At the fork, head E to reach your first gather point. After you're done, return to the fork and head N. Keep following the path until you find a chest containing . From the chest, head N to the next screen. In this area, quickly head W to the next screen. Head all the way to the W and ascend those stairs. Now head S, then jump on the ledge until you find an enemy. Defeat it, then keep going S until you find a barrel. Break it and head N, eventually you will reach the second gather point and a chest containing , After you're done, head E and use the stairs to go back to the previous screen. Go all the way to the N to the next screen. Head N until you reach the save point (save it if you want to). From the save point, go all the way to the W to the next screen. Go W and ascend the bridge. Ignore the first fork, and head S on the second fork. Follow the path and descend the stairs. Go all the way to the S and ascend the stairs to your left. Follow the path (don't fall) to the next screen. In this area, quickly head N to the next screen. Follow the path all the way to the N until you find 2 set of stairs. Take the N stairs to reach the third gather point, and a chest containing . Well, that's all of them, walk around until you trigger a scene. Now for the results, if you mined 1 gather point, you will get a C. If you mined 2 gather points, you will get a B. If you mined all 3 gather points, you will get an A. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ BOMI CHONG'S CORRECTION According to Bomi Chong, you don't have to dig all 3 gather points to get an A. Your guide posted on gamefaqs.com has an incorrect instruction. For chapter 2 Mineralogy I assignment, where you need to gather stones at the Mana Ruins, you do not have to mine all 3 spots to get an A. You only need to mine 2 spots. What is essential to getting an A is mining the spot that has the Legion Steel, AKA the very very northern spot on the cliff. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ _______ WEEK 3 \ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ You should have gotten some of the reports about your task at the Living Forest. Now since some of your characters have returned, use Task Sharing again and gather them in Mana Ruins - Outskirts. We need an item called "Rocks rock!" for another recipe later. Anyway, go N and jump to the pillars to reach a chest containing <400 Cole>. Now head all the way to the E to find a chest containing <700 Cole>, then head N to the next screen. Other than that he's not really hard. Since the boss is weak against any elemental attacks, you can either throw a flame or lightning rod at him to fill up your Burst Gauge quickly. In order to get an A, you need to perform a Burst in less than 30 Minutes. You don't have to kill it in order to get an A. There are 2 ways to achieve this. You can either kill the boss while in Burst Mode in less than 25 minutes(25 minutes means 25 cards in battle), or you can perform 2 Burst Modes in less than 30 minutes (30 minutes means 30 cards in battle). It doesn't matter which one you choose since both of them will definitely get you an A. ************************************************************************ After the battle, look at your memo to see your battle time. Go there for a boss battle. ************************************************************************ BOSS: QUALIFIED STUDENT A QUALIFIED STUDENT B No strategy here since they're both easy to beat. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* INFO: GLOWFIRE MANA For those of you who wants to complete their Encyclopedia, the enemy called "Glowfire Mana" can only be found here. Qualified Student A summons it. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* Just use your powerful skills to beat them quickly. ************************************************************************ After the battle, head for the Campus Grounds for a scene, then go to Mana Ruins. But before you go, make sure that you bring some healing items with you and also make sure that Pamela can cast healing spell since she will be our main healer in the next boss battle. Once you're ready, approach the target location in your map for another boss battle. ************************************************************************ BOSS: RENEE AZUREFLAME MANA Okay this is where you need to get serious since both bosses can pack a punch. I suggest that you start focusing your attacks on the Azureflame Mana first since its HP is lesser than Renee. Use Jade Shift on Vayne to get an extra turn, then use Nikki's Decoy Shield and cast it on Vayne, Nikki, and Pamela to minimize the damage. And have Pamela to take up the healing duty. Since both bosses don't have any elemental weakness, you need to rely on your multi-hit chain attacks to increase your Burst Gauge. Once your Burst Gauge is activated, unleash your powerful skills to finish them off. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* RICHARD MILL'S SUGGESTION In the battles with Renee or any other battle with a "summoning" skill. In order to make the battle a lot faster, it's a good idea to use skills like "Happy Twins", Silence, or Thundering Hammer (unless it's the first of said battles, where Jess is unavailable). There's a chance it could silence her, stopping her from summoning her Azureflame mana. Of course, this is only a good idea if you want to bypass the annoyance of a second foe and skip the Azureflame on your encyclopedia. I found it makes the battle much easier to deal with instead of having a person dedicated to healing because you are continuously pounded on by two people. Also, I'm not sure, as I havn't confirmed it, but, I also believe it stops Renee's ultimate attack from being initiated. In the battle she used only items and "Girl Attack." This is just a suggestion. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+* ************************************************************************ After the battle, you will receive Recipe. You can now synthesize . After the scene, return to the to the Academy and make sure that you have some healing items with you before you go to the Auditorium. Once you're ready, head for the Auditorium for another boss battle. ************************************************************************ BOSS: ROXIS TONY This battle is a lot harder than the previous one. Roxis uses Megaheal, a New Ice Volley move and Purify Skill, which is more powerful. Tony, on the other hand, has a lot more HP and focuses more on offense, but he doesn't have any special move. Now for strategy, I suggest that you focus your attacks first on Roxis, since he has less HP and more powerful than Tony. Vayne's Jade Shift and Flay's Raiden Charge + Starshot are very useful in this battle so use them wisely. ************************************************************************ After the battle, you will receive recipe. You can now synthesize . *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ INFO: ROXIS Roxis is a decent character to add in your party. His Purifying skill is very useful during boss battle since it allows Roxis to remove any Time Card that the boss set up in the battle field. However, Roxis will join you without Mana, and without Mana, he can't access some of his skills in his Grow Book even though you have the items to unlock them. And also he won't help Vayne synthesize. To address this problem, you need to complete some of his Character Quests, so I suggest that you do them during Chapter 5, 6, and 7. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- CHAPTER 5: NEW FRIENDS AND A FATHER CH05 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- _______ WEEK 1 \ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ An Event Scene. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ INFO: ANNA Anna is one of your quick and direct attacker, but she isn't fast as Nikki. Just keep attacking him until another scene occurs. After the scene, you will be introduced to another tutorial about Variable Strike and Finishing Burst. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ INFO: VARIABLE STRIKE In order to perform a Variable Strike, Vayne must be in the support attack group and he must be the last one to attack. When you perform an attack, let the other two supporters attack first, then let Vayne be the last one in order to perform it. Make sure that you did this routine in 1 sweep with no interruption whatsoever. Also, make sure that you practice this since you will be using it from now on. INFO: FINISHING BURST Once you enter Burst Mode, you will be given a condition that you need to satisfy in order to fill up your Finishing Burst Gauge. Sometimes the conditions are easy to meet like "Raise your Chain", "Recover HP", "Attack with Fire", etc. However, sometimes it may be impossible to meet up the conditions since you don't have the right skills available at the moment. Once your Finishing Burst Gauge activates, you can actually use your characters' Finishing Moves, but you need to be in Burst Mode in order to activate them. Finish Burst Table (Info from the Doublejump Books strategy guide) Name Requirement What to do Power Strike - Stun the enemy - Attack an enemy until it stunned Weak Point - Attack the weakness - Attack with an element the enemy is weak to Mass Combo - Attack in a row but - Each time your characters attack do not allow the back to back without guarding, enemy to attack the meter fills up Chain Rush - Raise your Chain - Attack the enemy while in Burst Mode. Once you're in Finishing Burst Mode, I suggest that you choose Vayne to do the finishing move to deal more damage on the boss. You might probably have to enter Burst Mode twice before you defeat him. And one more thing, when the boss prepare his Flare Ray, make sure that you defend since he's going to unleash his devastating attack that will absolutely wipe out your characters. ************************************************************************ *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ BERT TANUWIJAYA'S TIPS Before you do your finisher, switch to every character you want to do the finisher, equip he/she with glasses of death and ether effect Critical+(L)/Critical++(L). After that, use steak or whatever to increase your char's attack OR magic [preferably Flay/Gunnar, because he can use Raiden Charge, and also deals 2 EXTREME damage at the very end at his finisher], depending on the character, and use your finisher. preferrably In the earlier part of the game it already deal 10000++ dmg to me. *+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+*+ After the battle, you will receive .
