Normal Arts will increase AP to use the other kinds which expend AP, being Super, Hyper, Variable, and Mystic Arts. The number of Art Blocks a person has is the number of sequence inputs s/he may use. For instance, take Lang's Thunderflash ability. It has an input sequence of Down-Up-Up-Up (or 'DUUU' in walkthrough shorthand.) That's four inputs, so before Lang can even hope to learn this, he must have a minimum of four (4) art blocks. At that time, he can learn this and any other if he knows the combination. This applies to most Super Arts, Mystic Arts, and Variable Arts. Hyper Arts, on the other hand, usually are taught by scrolls, items, or a mandatory event. ART LINKING ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ This technique goes by many names, but this seems a suitable one. As we all know now, arts have a certain # of button inputs to be used. However, there are methods of linking two together which will free up one (1) art block to be used for other arts. Here's an example using Lang's abilities Hawk Stroke = LDD Blade Dance = DLL For someone uninitiated, if they wanted to use these two moves in a row, they would probably end up needing six (6) art blocks. However, these two can be art-linked so both can be done in five. WRONG WAY: LDD + DLL = LDDDLL = 6 Art Blocks Used WRONG WAY: DLL + LDD = DLLLDD = 6 Art Blocks Used RIGHT WAY: DLL + LDD = DLLDD = 5 Art Blocks Used RIGHT WAY: LDD + DLL = LDDLL = 5 Art Blocks Used A correct 'link' joins arts when the first ends and the following begins with the same input; in the case of the two abilities above, it's interchangeable, but that generally doesn't happen. If this still seems confusing, in battle, try pressing O-button when selecting the inputs to bring up the Art Menu. If the player selects an art, any that can be linked will have their first arrow light up for easier identification. Learning is one thing, but there's no substitute for finding out first-hand, so get out there and do it! It's invaluable! ____________________________________ ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ STATUS EFFECTS [STTS] ____________________________________ ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ Status effects, like those of most RPGs, are conditions that often impair a target to make them less capable in battle. Most abilities have an item cure (check item list) but all of them, including KO, are automatically cured at the end of battle. Most are bad, a few are good -- here's the lowdown. ____________ _____________________________________________ | STATUS | EFFECT | |ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ|ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ| | Bewitch | User attacks own allies | | Berserk | User attacks ally/foes with random inputs | | Blessed | ATK/DEF increased | | Blind | Physical-hit accuracy lowered | | Confusion | Art attack sequences are randomized/jumbled | | Critical | User's HP becomes 1 | | Fear | Can't take action | | Invincible | Cannot be damaged | | Invisible | Cannot be targeted by enemy | | KO'd | User's HP becomes 0 (can't take action) | | Paralysis | Cannot take action in battle | | Petrify | Cannot take action in battle (invincible) | | Plague | Lose HP/MP/AP at start of each turn | | Poison | Lose HP at start of each turn | | Protected | Halves damage | | Seal | Cannot use moves that need MP | | Sleep | Cannot take action in battle | | Spellbind | Input sequences don't trigger arts (for AP) | | Stunned | Cannot take action in battle | | Venom | Lose HP each turn + ally can't be healed | |____________|_____________________________________________| Although some self-alleviate as the turns pass, in general one will want to immediately cure some of the worse ones (Petrify, Bewitch, Stunned, Venom, Paralysis, etc.), especially in later battles when these abilities become more frequent and optimum equipment doesn't necessarily give protection. ____________________________________ ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ ELEMENTS [LMNT] ____________________________________ ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ FIRE <-> WATER WIND <-> EARTH DARK <-> LIGHT There are eight elements (Thunder & Void have no opposite), with two pairs of three that are related. For instance, fire-types are good against water- -types and vice versa; same for the other two. Attacking a water-elemental creature with a fire attack results in more damage. Apply this to everything. Some equipment abilities may relate to elements as well. While allies can only halve damage (Dark Guard, Wind Guard, etc.), some enemies are equipped with special nulling skills (Block Dark, Block Earth, etc.) that completely negate attacks if someone attacks with a skill of that element -- this DOES include imbued weapons. It's always important to check abilities given by equipment. Don't bring a knife to a gunfight, and don't bring a fire sword to a volcano -- comprende? ____________________________________ ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ STAT OVERVIEW [STTV] ____________________________________ ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ LV = Character's level. Otherwise, here's things I've found: • After Mt. Gabel events, the Darakin Citadel accessory shop will stock the 'Barricade Ring'. Buy one of these for Maya, who has no means of attack. The ring's Turtle ability will raise her defense on all attacks and stop them from severely damaging her; the ability also seems to make her defend more, too. Even when she does get arts, Turtle plays off her healer nature and really gives her staying power. Any defensive ability, such as Backup (all allies +25 AP) or her special ability (heal HP when defending) will synch great on this end. • When upgrading equipment, always try to do it in camp. This gets both the Blacksmith and Swordsmith nicknames easier. Why bother, one may ask? Doing these preparations early helps open up a massive shop cluster later. It's a lot better than upgrading some piece of crap item towards the end of the game, aye? • Later in the game, all storebought equipment gets uber-expensive. However, the way to get around this is by UPGRADING equipment with raw materials. Item shops in towns will sell these raw materials, which is a lot better than getting 'em off monsters, and these can save the team thousands upon thousands of gold when the next town offers a paltry upgrade. When viewing equipment on the upgrade screen, press the O-button to inspect each material needed -- it'll usually say where the item is found near. • Keep the Avarice Jewel on someone from the point it's obtained to the end of the game. The 'Item Increase' ability will give more items after-battle, and it never loses its use. I could expound on how getting multiple items and components is great, but it should be self-evident, no? • Later on when things start to cost in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, and even a few in the millions, there's a tip to get infinite cash (it requires a bit of capital). Unlock the secret market and buy as many Earth Dragon Wings (12000g/per) as possible, then trade them for Sun Faulds in Jinga. Each can be resold for 32500g, which is a 20500g profit on each! On a smaller scale, this can be done with any other item Jingans trade for, but EDWs are the most plentiful and easiest to get. • Accessories gain EXP by how many (allied) rounds are done in battle. To exploit this to easily level up late-game accessories, like Flash Earrings or Tireless Ribbons which need 250 EXP, it's important to find an enemy that can draw out the battle. The most common example is fighting a "Mrs. Bean" enemy in the Forest Maze, who's summoned by a Bean Cannon. Kill all enemies, set everyone to guard, and have a method of curing HP automatically (such as an accessory skill or Maya's special ability). Then, tape down the X-button and let the game play for an hour. Naturally this setup works best toward the final stretch of the game when there's really no danger of dying. _________________________ ___________________________________________________/ III. These will have to be found on the player's own time...or, just look in the art section and put the combos in. Anyway, get the [Flag of Retreat] in a small sidepath and enter the second screen. Galvan will say that it's time to clean up the place of Claw Ants, and there are two groups to find, one in the far north and one in the far south. Just look at the map to find their locations. There's a [Heal Powder] towards the north, also. When all groups are killed, continue east into the 3rd screen. Galvan will find Marcus here and leave the party to take him back to Nohl, leaving Lang to fight for himself. Spam powerful Normal Arts (Mountain Crusher: URU) but not Sandstorm, which sucks here. As damage is inflicted, Lang will chop off the insect's claws until it can't use the physical attack whatsoever. But, this makes it use 'Barse' and 'Venom', the latter which can be rather nasty. Poison won't do THAT much, but it shouldn't fester; give priority to healing, then cure poison. 'Barse' is a waste of a turn, usually -- Lang can OHKO the ants by Lv3. --- Back in Nohl, Galvan asks Lang to rest -- inspect the bed in Lang's room to advance the time a smidge. Maya will tag along for the escape, and although she can't use any attacks -- this is her biggest flaw for awhile -- she can take care of healing duties rather well. If one plans to train a bit in here, which wouldn't be a bad idea, the downstairs laboratory has some potions on the table -- the green one will refill HP/MP while the others give not-so-useful effects. Enemies have "line of sight" basically, so hiding behind shrubbery and proceeding when it's clear is rather easy. Two items're hidden around here: a [Heal Powder] in the NE corner and a [Bronze Barome] encased in the hedge. One side is false and can be entered, and even hidden in. A man in the weapon shop will teach Lang the "Chaos Strike" Art if possible (enough art blocks/doesn't know it). Our hero will have plenty of good storebought things, while weapon-less Maya can get better armor through buying cheap components around town (rather than spending $$$ on the next-best armor itself) and upgrading thusly. Upgrading is free of charge and only uses one's components, so this is a good tip. --- As the final bar scene showed, Maya wants to visit Mt. Gabel. We'll show him! Note that all of the monsters here are rather low to the ground, so use abilities that concentrate on downstrokes primarily to avoid slicing thin air. A better tip: always be near full health, because this place has lots of ambushes and the 'Run' option sucks unless your levels are comparable or higher than the foes! --- At the first fork, the only real way to go is west. Hug the rockwall when the path turns north to find a slightly obscured tunnel leading up to a [Magic Powder] chest. North, the team is locked into a room...just smash boulders to find a switch hidden by them. Past there, a huge cliff by an abyss. Ignore the first lower path and clear to the other side, then take the 2nd lower path to a [Heaven's Gate] stuck on a cliff. This item prevents enemy encounters for a while, and if you're worried about being ambushed by 2 Dino Gols, use it now! A small fork is by the cliff. The upper (NE) path leads to a half-grown vine, which Rivas can cause to climb all the way up (switch characters with R2 and use Square). A [Hell's Path] is up there. Double-back to the fork and find the two Galdukes running around the field. Approach from behind for a sneak attack, which opens the door south after battle. A [Revival Elixir] is in the rocky corridor past there, and a [Leaf of Appeal] near some stepping stones. Continue to the next fork, the north-leading one which has an [Attack Oil] behind some vines Galea can burn. You can return here later when Kazan rejoins, grow that vine, then use Diva to get [Jedo Metal] + [Attack Bottle], for reference. The southern path at the previous fork leads to another lock-in room where Galea must light a torch and depress the floor switch to continue 'long. An [Avarice Jewel] is obtainable in the corridor beyond -- burn the vines like before -- and should be immediately equipped, if possible. The 'Item Increase' ability it has will serve one well throughout the game. Another fork! East is a [Heaven's Path] item behind a boulder; follow the opposite way when done. Another lock-in room with a plaque saying 'there's only one truth'...meaning light the leftmost switch only to make the south door swing open. It leads to the [Secrets of Fang] scroll! Lang can read it now and learn the 'Raging Fang' technique, although Kazan will chide him when he leaves. Speaking of which, get outta this dump pronto! The entrance is right nearby. --- Kazan rejoins the party, Lang learns the Raging Fang Super Art (UDU) that'll massacre any really short monsters! Return to the mountain cabin for a few more scenes, and the new ally joins permanently. Next destination: Doplin Castle again! Halfway down the mountain, the team camps and Kazan learns the 'Kazan Curry' recipe. From now on in the field, there will be tents that'll signify camping locations where everyone can rest up, cook food, combine items or just chit-chat around the fire. Four [Beef], [Vegetables], [Red Peppers], and [Curry Sets] after the events. Before leaving the mountain completely, keep an eye out for the path that was blocked by a boulder. These deals can be obtained repeatedly. • The accessory shop lady will try to sell a Doplin Coin for 40000G. Deva can raise a platform up to a ledge holding a [Magic Bottle]. _______________________________________________________________________________ ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ 07) The Sewers [WK07] _______________________________________________________________________________ Ż| ITEMS ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ| FOES ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ|Ż | • Red Gate Key • Maiden's Heart | • Evil Fly | | • Old Map • Leaf of Stamina | • Bone Warrior | | • Camping Kit • Heal Leaf | • Jelly Melt | | • Way of Rage • Venom Cure | • Netherkind | | • Rot Ring • Stun Cure |_____________________| | • Blue Gate Key • Revival Elixir | | • Camping Kit • Bronze Barome • Courageous Heart | | • Scroll of Identity • Handmaiden's Ring • Leaf of Defiance | | • Yellow Gate Key • StrongMenWeakWalls • IceNeedle Scroll | | • Black Ring • Quick Oil • Boost Bottle | | • Foul Doublet • StoneCrush Scroll • Revival Bottle | | • Leaf of Sagacity • Leaf of Mentality • Unassailable Pill | | • Bronze Barome | |___________________________________________________________________________| The sewers can't be accessed until a few things are done. First, inspect the town dump to obtain the [Emblem of Nobility] a woman threw away. This item's needed to gain access to the hotel in the noble district, to which Lang was previously barred entrance. If you have a fat wallet, you can learn the Atomic Heat recipe in the snooty hotel by staying in the $80,000 room. It'll majorly boost all stats and is the best meal in the game! Inside the hotel, if you were to talk with a few tenants, you'd see that a horrible stench is coming from one of the rooms. The nearest room on the ground floor has a trapdoor in the bathroom which leads into the sewers! Before entering, I suggest -- in addition to upgrading everyone's equipment with VIP Card-given inventories -- that Maya is given the Barricade Ring. It has lots of good skills to learn, but 'Turtle' in particular will be great, as it raises Maya's defense when she's guarding... If you don't want the monsters to molest her in the sewers, this is a great item to have. Here's the map for the sewers. Follow the small path to another stairway where a [Maiden's Heart] chest is nearby. The only room accessible here will contain a [Red Gate Key], although Galea will have to break the crates to get to it. This key will open a door to a sluice lever at the point marked "R" on the map. Make sure to bust down the eastern wall for a [Leaf of Sagacity] and [Leaf of Mentality] first. Re-enter the 1st screen and go west to a couple chests, a crappy [Foul Doublet] & [StoneCrush Scroll]. Might as well get these now, eh? Get to the "R" spot on the map and flip that lever, completing around 1/3 of this lame dungeon. Backtrack toward the entrance a bit and go west, taking the new stairways available behind the gate/filter. Take the [Old Map] chest on the opposite side, which will reveal a map not unlike the one above. Unfortunately, it's a lot less informative and only has a few marks. See the colorized parts? The "X"s mark lever areas and the bolded lines mark the tops of sluicegates that become traversable when flipped on. From the Old Map's position, head west into a new screen. Pocket the [Leaf of Stamina] right nearby, and go south, then west at the first chance. This'll lead to a little "cul-de-sac" area with three treasures: [Camping Kit], [Heal Leaf], [Way of Rage]. The leaf is in the room under some boxes, while the Way of Rage teaches Kazan the awesome "Fists of Rage" skill -- use it immediately! Return to the main branch and go south to treasures 8 & 9, a [Venom Cure] and [Rot Ring]. The last skill said ring learns is 'HP Siphon' which increases ATK in exchange for HP. Later, the Kamikaze skill will be better but this isn't a bad thing to learn (since Lang isn't as powerful as Kazan yet). The stairways here will give access to the tenth treasure also, a [Stun Cure]. Finally, get the [Blue Gate Key] within a room just south of the Stun Cure, underneath a few boxes. In that key room, break down the north wall for an [Unassailable Pill.] The "B" on the map is now the next destination. --- Return to the entrance area and enter the drained sluice; from here, continue until the pointman goes under the paths spanning above and a stairway is obtained. On the map, this is around the SE section. Continue until the 12th treasure, a [Revival Elixir], can be obtained from underneath some boxes. West, a [Camping Kit] near a campsite! Use the Blue Gate Key in the "B" room, which drains some water nearby. Backtrack north to the 14th treasure in a room, a [Bronze Barome]! Backtrack even further to the red-key sluice itself for a [Boost Bottle], too. For the 15th treasure, return to the stairway near the Blue Gate Key room and slosh through the muck while going in a NE manner. Eventually Lang will come to said treasure, a [Courageous Heart]! Due west of there (then north), get a [Scroll of Identity] and [Handmaiden's Ring] sitting on a ledge. Unlock the door north of there, head into the dirty, dry sluice. [For reference, this is back near the Old Map position]. There is a [Leaf of Defiance] in the sluice, west and south at a dead end, that should be claimed before going in a NW manner thru the sluice. Arrive at a previously isolated stairway, leading to a room with a weird pedestal. Rivas can light it up to reveal a [Yellow Gate Key] hidden in the corner's darkness! Actually it can be obtained without that, but who cares? =p Return to the Old Map position, climb up to dry ground and head due west now. Two treasures, a [StrongMenWeakWalls] potion and an [IceNeedle] scroll, are ripe for the pickin'. Now's time to head back toward the "B" on the map, in any manner you choose. Once there, get the [Black Ring] across the way, then head south until a door to unlock comes in sight. Item #23, [Quick Oil], is in a chest a little northwest of there. Continue down to the "Y" spot on the map, which isn't that far, and flip the final sluice switch. Hop across the floating crates and enter a room with the [Revival Bottle] and look for a cracked wall, which can be broken with Galea's fierce fists -- this leads to the Kazel Ruins. The ladder nearby leads up to the Darakin junkyard, a handy shortcut for those who need to restock their supplies (check Camping Kit amount). The elevator nearby doesn't do much in getting the two items across the way, so on the highroad, go around to the opposite side and break down the crumbling wall. Below, the [Flag of Retreat] and [BoltStrike Scroll] can be obtained. Of the two rooms on the circling corridor above, one is completely empty and the other has [Sage's Handbook] behind a gate. The nearest library room has a [Camping Kit] & [Ancient Writings] in a bureau drawer, while the western hallway has some skeleton statues that lead up to a [Adventurer's Log 2]. Each statue represents a Bone Warrior that will ambush the party, but Galea can break some of them which evens the odds a bit. To actually get said treasure chest, light the pedestals in this order: NE, SW, NW, SE. Return to the main hallway and take the door nearest the library room, which has a bunch of colored pedestals. The "Adventurer's Log 2" gives away the right order, which is: Yellow > Indigo > Red > Green. Beyond, enter the first room in sight to find the [Adventurer's Log 3]. Visit Mt. Gabel's cabin and Kazan'll remember he gave the sand to Kojiro, who has now set up shop in the Darakin Citadel [SHOPLINK: SH07]. However, the merchant won't sell it and instead wants a rare "Lyps' Tear" item as a trade. Lyps and Lyps Kings, who rarely appear in most levels such as Gale Canyon and Hunter's Wood, will drop them upon death...problem is, they flee battle immediately. To counter this, buy 'Blowfish Weed' from Kojiro at 500g/per and use it on the field in a "natural dungeon" to increase Lyps & Lyps King spawn rates. It only lasts for four battles, though, so make sure a few are with. Once one appears, a party of Lv20+ should be fast enough for the kill. Level-up and use cooking to augment AGL for an extra boost, if needed. [The cookbook in Doplin Castle gives high AGL boosts without any side effects, unlike Kazan Curry.] Either way, when a Lyps' Tear is given to Kenjiro, the exchange for the sand takes place. However, to perform the co-op attack, there has to be one starter and one finisher art ONLY. To find out which is which, look at the icon in front of the art on the battle screen. If it's a red "V", it starts; if it's a purple "V", it ends. These will be very helpful later on, but remember that they cost 80 AP for each participant! Maya's house has a [Refreshing Seed] & [Regular Fertilizer] in the drawer, and after inspecting the plants, harvest a [Spices], [Herbs], and [Venom Star] from the buds. Read up on this minigame in the appropriate section. At the grocer, grab a [Lyps Seed] from the bureau and buy something (anything) from the vegetable grocery for a [Crazy About Stew] cookbook! It teaches the Sukiyaki recipe to Lang. Buying anything from the itemshop gives the [Enjoying Gardening] book, also. Later Lang can get Heal Leaves as an added bonus for shopping. At Sasha's house, where Kazan is currently getting hammered, look in the hosts' drawers for [Tatsnam Juice], a [Silver Barome] and [Monster Meat]. The house with a waterwheel has the same searching procedure, turning up a [Resurrect Bottle], [Animal Meat] and a [Physical Remedy]. Whew! The storeroom next to Maya's house has a [Donjak] collectible for Lang's room near a [Magic Bottle]. The abode nearest the graveyard has a [Heal Bottle], that's all. --- To kickstart the storyline events, talk with Maya in the graveyard, then with Kazan (still smashed) at Sasha's house. Return to Maya's pad, sleep, and when the rooster crows, visit Reym in his cave -- use the backdoor. After a long- -winded scene, view the monolith and leave. With everyone collected, now's a good time to upgrade equipment. There are a few accessories sold at the weapon shop, too. Around this time the party can FINALLY create an accessory that prevents 'ambush' situations, and this will serve one faithfully throughout the game. Here's the order of creation (this will have to be done in Darakin or in Camp, mind you): 1) Passion Necklace + Tough Necklace = Assault Bangle 2) Assault Bangle + Babble Necklace = Hero Bangle 3) Hero Bangle + Bonus Bangle = Beggar's Bangle 4) Beggar's Bangle + Babble Necklace = Power Necklace The Power Necklace has the "No Surprises" skill as well as "Art Attack Up," both of which will be great on an attacker character. Lang in particular is probably lagging behind Kazan due to art block #'s, so that latter skill can give a little leverage. ALSO: While many of Yuno's equipment is expensive, the massive combine item stock in the grocery can help as it has most things from The Forest Maze and Mt. Gabel in one place. At the very least, Lang can upgrade his weapon with items instead of shelling out dough for a Skeleton Saber. _________ ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ MANDATORY _________ ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ Return to Nohl, talk with Hawke and, after some dialogue, the [Aqualith] will be re-obtained. Upon leaving town, Maya says that the Pyrolith -- the fiery orb like the Aqualith -- is probably on the island of Drokonia, far to the south. Freecity Kravia now appears on the world map southwest of Darakin Citadel and should be visited promptly. Try to enter and learn that only one with a 'Kravian Pass' from Doplin Castle's new bishop can enter...so back to the citadel. Here, enter the cafe and everyone will meet the 4th character, Sharon. She has a huge number of art blocks (more than Kazan, even at Lv35) and is fast. Now is about the time one should consider kicking Maya out of the party to use the speed demon Sharon, whose attacks only get more powerful once she's given the Kamikaze [etc.] skills to augment her STR. Now, back to the Kazel Ruins for the LAST TIME, I promise. Use the junkyard trapdoor instead of going the long way through the sewers. The weapon shop in town [SH03] will have upgraded stuff to accomodate the new member. __________ ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ NEW EVENTS __________ ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ • Maya will be in her Yuno lodge and ask Lang if he likes it. • The Adventurer Miura will appear in Yuno after re-entering for the first time. This MAY be connected to making him appear later down south (as many have complained of his absence) so make sure to talk with him here. • Talk with Nancy after taking the Aqualith back for 'pressure' scenes. • After Sharon joins, talk with Joe to give her the nickname 'Miss Fickle.' • Once Sharon joins, return to Nohl. There are scenes in the lodge kitchen where Maya can get the 'Dogged' nickname. • Return to Gale Canyon near the spot where the lyps showed up on the high ridge. Luckily, Sharon's field ability is shooting thunder switches to make paths change, which will be useful for quite some time. To start, get to the [Prison Key] room after going downstairs. Avoid the room marked 'Snake Plaque' and go west, taking the first northern door. Light both torches with Rivas, proceed north some more, and enter the nearest room with four floor panels. A [Restore Potion] is under some boxes, but before doing that, see that they're stacked in varying amounts in front of a switch? One box means the first in the order, and so on -- this makes the switch solution Rightmost, leftmost, 3rd. Get the [Explorer's Notes 1] & [Quick Escape Charm] before leaving. Back in the hallway, the lower path down a ladder leads to a [Power Necklace] while the path behind the breakable wall goes to a [Fruit of Defiance]. Avoid the statues and light the two moss torches near the chest to avoid being attacked. With the notes in hand, return to the room marked 'Snake Plaque'. Light up all torches except those that have the letters in 'SNAKE' to proceed past. The hallway that encircles the lower elevator path is semi-blocked, so the lift is the real way out. Before that, take the highroad east and north to a dead-end room with three buttons. The left gives access to a [Paralysis Draught], the right to just another button. Press all buttons behind the closed doors, then un-depress the ones in the room's center to make a 4th button appear. This opens a door to the [Spell of Earth] that teaches Maya 'Dust to Dust' and a [Dream Necklace] to boot! To leave, step on the switch nearest the entrance. Return to the lift. The thunder switch will make everything like clockwork again, going up the other side. Get a [Blind Cure] in the nearest antechamber, then northward to the hallway with four torches. This inscription here hints toward making the two nearest torches lit (only), which does indeed open the way to the campsite. --- Past the former boss room, enter the library again and inspect one of the shelves. If Maya hasn't already, she'll learn the Bedrock Buster (DRD) and Ice Floe (URR) arts. Find the leftmost hallway where statues used to line it, which leads to a dead-end room whose puzzle has changed. The object now is to light up all torches; the problem is adjacent lit-up torches are snuffed out in the process. It's easy to figure out: light a torch, light the only unlit torch, light one of the two remaining unlit torches, then light the torch opposite the one in the 3rd step. Claim the [Explorer's Notes 2] and [Camping Kit] in the meantime, then enter the room marked 'Lizard Plaque'. The explorer's notes hint at the order, but the player has to figure out some of the steps. Shortcut: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet. It also happens to be the order of the color spectrum ('roygbiv'). Out the other side, hang a left to a thunder switch and use it to get near a chest holding [Raw Alexandrite]. Galea can light the candles here to initiate battle with Infernos, optional monsters with about 8000 HP. Each drops 10000 gold, so it ain't a bad idea. The room north of the inferno area has a bunch of boxes... and some funny-looking ones. Break the boxes until only the "X" types are on the ground to make the [Explorer's Notes 3] chest appear. Backtrack to the 'Bird Plaque' room. To proceed: - Light 8 o'clock position - Snuff 4 o'clock position - Light 7 o'clock position - Light 3 o'clock position - Snuff 8 o'clock position - Light 1 o'clock position - Light 5 o'clock position - Snuff 12 o'clock position The tiny dead-end passage past the bird room has a thunder plaque behind a breakable wall. Before leaving, get the final treasures: [Book of Fear], [ShadowLurk Scroll], [Bewitch Cure], and a [Revival Bottle]. Use the Prison Key on the grate to get into Doplin Castle. _____________ ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ DOPLIN CASTLE _____________ ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ This place except Gold, Bronze, and Crimson Warriors have replaced the usual chaff. In the basement, the room across from the lab has a [Soiled Letter] on the table -- swipe it for later. Upstairs, the Prison Key can unlock the door leading to a [Silver Barome] and [Restore Blossom]. Back in the central hall, leaving into town is possible like usual. This time, the door to take is aft of the drawbridge lever, which leads to the lower cathedral. _____________________ ___________ ___________ ________ _____________ ________ | BOSS: Bubba | HP:~55000 | XP: 38400 | 19200$ | Type: Human | ELM: V | |ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ| | STEAL: Nomadic Necklace | | DROP?: "Musky, for Men" | |_____________________________________________________________________________| • Burning Soul [+30 AP to self] • Combo + Violet 7 [3-hit + 1-hit, physical, single] • Dancing Revolver [6-hit, physical, single + %Bewitch] Bubba can be very powerful, and some of his combos may well KO a character. Even a normal 10 art block combo can do under 5000, which is why the best way to get this doofus downed is with variable arts and origin spells (not Deva). The good news is that Bubba can only attack one person at a time, so as long as there is some method of reviving characters, it's really a cut-and-dry strategy. Since he wastes his first turn using Burning Soul, make sure that's the one when the Variable Art is used!!! Try to steal his Nomadic Necklace before the end, though -- it's pretty decent and unbuyable currently. [NOTE: Bubba needs AP to use his moves so if one has AP Siphon on an accessory, that may declaw him quickly...?] --- Defeating Bubba earns a [Kravian Pass] -- pick it up off the ground! Beat him in twenty-five seconds or less with a bumper crop (100% planting) to get the 'Rice Master' nickname. It's possible to fight Paipai the ramen-seller in this same game afterwards. Defeat her to earn the 'God of Rice' nickname and [Magic Fertilizer]. • In the hot springs hotel is a cat "machine" that accepts donations. Keep giving it 1000g and every once in awhile it gives a [Restore Potion] back! • Upstairs in the hot springs hotel, Kazan will be talking with an old buddy of his, who gives him the [Way of Quake] scroll. This teaches Kazan the Earthshaker, which is very useful. • In the hilltop house, there is a man who will buy collectibles for his research. He's the only one in the game who does this, and there's little use for them. The Doplin Coin, if it was bought in Darakin's accessory shop, can be sold for about three times as much! If you want to fight Bubba in the arena later, make sure that the Friendship Ring is not sold -- in fact, go put it on Elfin's grave in Gale Canyon pronto! • Buy something from the vegetable merchant to get a [Popular Edo Dishes] cookbook! _____________ ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ DAREK'S HAUNT _____________ ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ Watch the opening scenes and enter the small building nearby for more. Get on the Blood Hawk's deck and...the thing won't move, because the ThunderWind Stone that propels it has lost its juice. These things are only found in the Thunder Mine, conveniently located nearby -- that's the next destination. Before leaving, the Haunt has a few things to do: - A [Revival Bottle] is on the Blood Hawk - A [Restore Leaf] is near the building - A swordsman on the ship can teach Lang the Thunderflash normal art - Lang can play darts with Asteya for 100g/per - Bacadee makes food inside the house [SH25], and Lang can learn the Fried Turkey, Jambalaya, and BBQ Veggies recipes _______________________________________________________________________________ ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ 16) The Thunder Mine [WK16] _______________________________________________________________________________ Ż| ITEMS ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ| FOES ŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻŻ|Ż | • Hunter's Orb • Camping Kit | • Cloud Eater | | • Lightning Tear • Magic Bottle | • Fiend Bulb | | • Book of Eden • Guardian Orb | • Shade Flower | | • Lightning Tear • Petrify Cure | • Hanged Shape | | • Silver Barome • Lightning Tear | • Helgigas | | • ThunderWind Stone | • Lyps King | |_____________________________________________________|_____________________| The enemies here can be rather brutal, some having 8000-10000 HP to deplete. For an easier time, give everyone a Power Necklace with 'Art Attack Up' that will make it easier to OHKO just about everything -- Sharon is good on this end, in particular. When that's done, the only problem is enemies getting in their turns first, which should be coming to an end as the team approaches level forty. Like usual, my team is Lang/Sharon/Kazan. The main path leads to a ivy-covered wall -- climbable, as we've previously seen -- although the lowroad culminates in a [Camping Kit] chest in a far dead end. Scramble up the ivy, get the first [Lightning Tear] and jump to the other ledge, which ends the first screen. Near the campsite, the paths are blocked by electrified grids. Insert the Lightning Tear on the small cliff lookout point (marked 'L') to deactivate the two nearest grids. Take the northern route first, hugging the wall until it enters a new screen. Foll
