This feature will allow you to go to any chapter or section in this guide quickly. On the left side of many of the chapters, as well as the right side of each of the major section headers, in the Table of Contents is a four character code. To access any of those chapters or sections do CTRL-F (PC) or Clover-F (Mac) to activate the Find feature in the web browser. Then enter the code in BRACKETS (or at least the left bracket) like this: [xxxx] or [xxxx You will notice that the chapters for the Main Story Missions do not have a four character code. They are accessed a little differently. To access any of the Main Story Mission chapters you activate the Find feature and enter the > character followed by the chapter number like this: >KR6 or >ZD12 This feature also works backwards. You will notice that the Table of Contents has it's own four character code. Should you want to quickly go back to the top of this document input the four letter code for the Table and you will instantly be back at the top of the guide. /==XX====XX====XX====XX====XX====X##***##X====XX====XX====XX====XX====XX==\ 0===XX====XX====XX====XX====XX====X##***##X====XX====XX====XX====XX====XX===0 | Table of Contents [TBCT] | 0===XX====XX====XX====XX====XX====0##***##0====XX====XX====XX====XX====XX===0 \==XX====XX====XX====XX====XX====X##***##X====XX====XX====XX====XX====XX==/ /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ 0================================================0 | I. Who Am I? | 0===========================================================================0 \=========================================================================/ My name is Robert Allen Rusk and I am a hardcore gamer with about 30+ years of gaming experience. I am an ex-gametester (Broderbund Software, LucasArts Games, Point Of View Computing) and an ex-arcade attendant (Namco Cyberstation - Pier 39, San Francisco, CA). I also own multiple systems such as the Sega Dreamcast, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Atari Jaguar, PlayStation 1 and 2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I currently work at JCPenneys at one of the malls here in San Antonio, TX. Retail isn't the best job in the world but JCPenneys is a very stable company unlike some of the other places I have worked for in the past like internet service providers or web programming companies. I started writing guides in 2003 because I felt it was something I could do utilizing my writing skills gained in college and gametesting along with my passion for vidgames. Over time I have honed my overall writing and organization skills plus my creative thinking skills. I have extended the play value of the games I have written guides and FAQs for many times over plus I have received many letters from all over the world. I am also what one may call an RGB enthusiast. I hack my game consoles to try to get the best possible video from them and that usually involves tapping into the RGB Analog video signals and using them on the right monitors to achieve my desires. To this end I became a member of the GamesX.com mod forum and I post regularly on their "RGB + Video Discussions" forum area. In addition, I am a member of the X-Otic Computer Systems of San Antonio (www.xcssa.org), a group who specializes in Linux, Mac, and other systems. I am also a regular forum poster at GameFAQs, an occasional poster at www.Atariage.com and Digital Press, and I am also a member of the MOFAT (a members only message board set up by "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" players who met on the Vice City message boards at GameFAQs). Outside of gaming, my interests include Godzilla (I have been a G-Fan since the age of ten) and Red Dwarf (I own all eight series on DVD). As far as favorite sports teams go my teams are the San Antonio Spurs (NBA) [the local team], the Denver Broncos (NFL) [although I live in Texas I am originally from Colorado Springs, Colorado], and the Air Force Falcons (NCAA Football). /=========================================================================\ 0===========================================================================0 | I.2. My Setup [MYST] | 0===========================================================================0 \=========================================================================/ This guide was constructed using TextWrangler 2.2.1 on a 1.5Ghz Single Core Intel Mac Mini. I view my work in Safari to help in seeing how it would look on the web and correct format errors. I also play Vice City Stories on my NEC MultiSync 3D RGB monitor using a modified PlayStation 2 where I tapped the RGB Analog video signals from the A/V plug and grounded two areas to suppress Component Video and Sync-On-Green (when using Progressive Scan). I hacked a 15-pin plug into the side of the unit and made a special box to allow monitor and sound hookup to this modified unit. I also played Vice City Stories using the Xploder HDTV Player disc which allows me to play the game in Progressive Scan (480p). When I do my writing and guide revisions I run my Mac (on a Compaq monitor) alongside the PS2 (on my MultiSync 3D monitor). This way I can simultaneously play and make changes to the guide at the same time. The sound is hooked up to an old stereo box I got from Radio Shack when I acquired my first Amiga 500 in 1990 and it has served me well considering its age. For my guide work I have 22 memory cards for my PlayStation 2. I have reorganized the game saves on my memory cards and I now have eight cards specifically dedicated to my GTA work including Vice City Stories. These memory cards allow me to quickly go and try out new ideas (and modify old ones) when they occur to me or suggested by others. /=========================================================================\ 0===========================================================================0 | I.3. From The Author [FTAH] | 0===========================================================================0 \=========================================================================/ Welcome to my "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories" guide! If this is the first time you have visited, you will find a lot of useful information in a highly organized format that you can use to beat all of the missions of the game. Quotes taken from readers' e-mail are presented "as is" and may include spelling and grammatical errors. When I first posted my initial version of my Vice City guide in 2003, I did not know how well it would go over and how many people would respond. I wasn't exactly swamped with e-mail but I do get letters from time to time. Sometimes people would ask for advice and others would say how cool the guide is. All it takes is for one person to say how good and useful your guide is to make it all worthwhile. And others have made suggestions that have been incorporated into my guides. I want to thank GameFAQs for creating a place where such documents can be hosted for the benefit of all gamers. I also want to thank IGN.com, NeoSeeker.com, TheVGNation.com, GameHelper.com, and many other sites for their generosity in hosting this guide along with my other work on their sites. I also want to thank everybody who has taken the time to download and read this guide. I love this game and I wanted to share my creative ideas with fellow Vice City Stories "thuggers". And, of course, I want to give a special thanks to all those who have taken the time to write to me and tell me what you thought, make suggestions, and ask questions. With that said, let's get down to business shall we?..... /=========================================================================\ 0===========================================================================0 | I.4. About The Guide [ABGT] | 0===========================================================================0 \=========================================================================/ The main emphasis of this guide is to provide creative and simple solutions to many of the missions of "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories". Many hours were spent going over the missions and finding unique ways to solve them. I think you will be surprised by some of the solutions found here. I have worked hard to make sure that this guide is as complete as possible but at the same time leave room for exploration. I hope that you enjoy this guide as much as learn from it. While this guide was written initially for the PS2 version of the game, this guide will also benefit those with the PSP version. If any of the strategies in this guide won't work on it, feel free to write me and let me know so I can make additional adjustments in future revisions. Another emphasis of this guide is ORDER. If you do the missions and tasks in a certain order, the game will be easier and more fun for you. Each Red Balloon, Unique Stunt Jump, Rampage, and Empire Site have a letter designation to make them easier to identify in this guide. In addition there is a three letter Neighborhood Prefix (listings below) indicating a particular neighborhood or area where the item can be found (in these examples I use "XXX"): >>Red Balloons will be identified with an "RB". Examples: Red Balloon XXX-RB21. Balloon XXX-RB32. XXX-RB65. >>Rampages will be identified with an "R". Examples: Rampage XXX-R34. XXX-R16. >>Unique Stunt Jumps will be identified with a "J". "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories" [GTCS] | 0===========================================================================0 \=========================================================================/ "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories" is a prequel to "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" and originally appeared on the PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld system. When it came out on the PSP, Rockstar Games said that it had absolutely no intention of ever porting Vice City Stories to the PlayStation 2 console. But after what happened with "Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories" plus the large user base of the PS2 just begging for another GTA game there was no way I was going to believe them. Sure enough, "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories" was released, with little fanfare, on the PlayStation 2 game console in March of 2007. And, of course, you are now reading the guide I have made for it. Vice City Stories, set in the year 1984, serves to fill in some details of some of the characters, and the city, featured in "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" which is set in 1986. It has more side-missions plus the ability to build an empire. The number of Main Story missions seems smaller than in "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" and the game tends to chug badly when there is a lot going on. Despite it being a port of the PSP version, the PS2 version is a pretty solid game that feels familiar yet different at the same time. And pretty cheap ($20) too. With all that said, let's get down to business and I will start with the differences between the PSP and PS2 versions..... /=========================================================================\ 0===========================================================================0 | I.7. Differences Between the PSP and PS2 Versions [DFVR] | 0===========================================================================0 \=========================================================================/ When "Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories" came out on the PS2 there were no differences between it and the PSP versions other than graphical and control improvements. But when the PS2 version of "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories" came out it quickly became apparent that there were many differences between the PS2 and PSP versions other than the graphical and control improvements. These changes included extra side-missions, extra Rampages, extra Jumps, and fewer Turismo races. Listed below are the most notable differences between the PS2 and PSP versions: >>Six additional Unique Stunt Jumps: ********************************** --LTV-J12 (Little Havana). --SFI-J16 (Starfish Island). --VCP-J26 (Vice Point). --VCP-J29 (Vice Point). --OCB-J32 (Ocean Beach). --OCB-J33 (Ocean Beach). >>Five additional Rampages: ************************* --LTV-R15 (Little Havana). --SFI-R18 (Starfish Island). --PRI-R19 (Prawn Island). --VIM-R20 (Vice Point Mall). --OCB-R35 (Ocean Beach). >>Five additional Checkpoint Races: ********************************* --"Playground on the Dock" (Viceport). --"Crims On Water Wings" (Ocean Beach). --"Caddy Daddy" (Leaf Links Golf Course). --"Playground on the Park" (Ocean Beach). --"Hyman Memorial O.D.T." (Escobar International Airport). >>One additional vehicle side-mission: ************************************ --"Rush!" (Viceport). >>Three fewer "Turismo" races. **************************** In addition, one of the Rampages in the PSP version was moved from a parking lot in Downtown north to The Dirtbike Track area (Rampage DTN-R2). /=========================================================================\ 0===========================================================================0 | I.8. Original Vice City [ORVC] | 0===========================================================================0 \=========================================================================/ Whenever you see me use "Original Vice City" in this guide I am referring to "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" which is the sequel to Vice City Stories and was released in 2002. /=========================================================================\ 0===========================================================================0 | I.9. Xploder HDTV Player (PlayStation 2) Data [XPTV] | 0===========================================================================0 \=========================================================================/ Xploder HDTV Player is a disc that will allow PlayStation 2 owners to play most of their games in Progressive Scan mode. Many games will work but some of them will have issues. "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories" works great in 480p mode. However, the main title intro will be glitchy because of "line meshing issues". This is actually a minor problem since you can easily skip the opening credits by pressing X. Once you get past the intro, all is good. Although I should note that sometimes the intro can play perfectly. This happens once in a while for reasons I have not figured out yet. Because the graphics are designed for 480 vertical resolution it is not recommended that you put Vice City Stories in any mode higher than 480p. The higher resolution modes, like 720p, simply shoehorn the 480 graphics into the higher end modes and tend to really squash the screen. /=========================================================================\ 0===========================================================================0 | I.10. New Features [NWFT] | 0===========================================================================0 \=========================================================================/ Explained below are four new, and notable, features introduced in "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories": /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ 0XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 | I.10.A. Discovered Extras \ 0XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 In Original Vice City, and most other GTAs, you had to carefully keep track of the Unique Stunt Jumps, Rampages, and Packages you collected. It was especially easy to lose track of how many Jumps you did and it was frustrating to figure out which one you missed since there was no way to tell if you got the Jump or not. In Vice City Stories a new feature was introduced that makes it easy to keep track of such things. When you go to the Main Map, by pressing Pause, hold down the X Button to display the map options. When you do that you will see something called "Show Discovered Extras". By holding down X and using D-Pad Right and D-Pad Left you can see which Red Balloons you have popped, Rampages you have completed, and what Jumps you have done. This is also used to unclutter your map by turning off the Empire Sites which appear about a third of the way through the game. /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ 0XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 | I.10.B. Weapon Bribes \ 0XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 Don't you just hate it when you get Wasted or Busted and you have to rebuild your arsenal of weapons from scratch? Not anymore. Whenever you get sent to a Police Station or Hospital you will notice a Purchase Icon (which looks like a lock) nearby. For $2,000 you can regain your weapons and all the ammo they had when they were taken from you (but you can't get your Body Armor back). Very nice feature, indeed. /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ 0XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 | I.10.C. Vehicle Side-Mission Checkpoints \ 0XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 One of the more aggravating things about some of the vehicle missions, like the Ambulance Mission, is having to start again from Level 1 when retrying after a failed attempt. Even more irritating if you failed near the very end. Another new feature added is Level Checkpoints. When you complete Level 5 and Level 10 of a vehicle side-mission you reach a checkpoint. If you fail after those checkpoints you restart at the current checkpoint instead of Level 1 when retrying. This makes things less frustrating. The following vehicle missions have the checkpoint feature: >>Ambulance Mission. >>Firefighter Mission. >>Vigilante Mission. >>Air Rescue. >>Beach Patrol. It must be pointed out, however, is that in the other GTAs the vehicle side-missions were twelve levels. But In Vice City Stories they are FIFTEEN levels, three more than the other GTAs. Not exactly cool but the next feature is even worse..... /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ 0XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 | I.10.D. Driver Damage \ 0XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 While the three above features are welcomed, this one feature is not. The best way I can describe this feature is Driver Damage. In the other GTAs, when you were in a vehicle and was shot at, the vehicle took the damage exclusively. When you were in a bulletproof vehicle or a Rhino you were practically invincible from gunfire. Not anymore. Whenever you are in a vehicle, be it a regular car, bulletproof, Rhino, even a helicopter, you can be shot at, and take damage, when inside. That's right, even in a tank they can hit you through the front viewport and hurt, and possibly, kill you. In bulletproof vehicles they can hit you through the windows. Now, what good is it to use such cool vehicles like that if you can be killed while inside them? With that done, let's move on to the most basic of functions...... /=========================================================================\ 0===========================================================================0 | I.11. Controls and Vehicles [CTRS] | 0===========================================================================0 \=========================================================================/ Although the manual covers the setup pretty good, I felt that I should include a section on controls for those who have acquired used copies of Vice City Stories that have no manuals. I have also included basic action and vehicle information with their respective control schemes. /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ 0XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 | I.11.A. Tapping the button in rhythm will serve to help you run a little longer. The more times you run, the better your stamina will be. You can solve the problem of tiring out by getting the Infinite Run feature which is acquired by successfully completing the Ambulance Mission (detailed later). [2] - When doing this to motorcycles, depending on how close you are, you can either knock the rider off with a elbow to the face or jumpkick them to the chest. [3] - This button is also used to recruit gang members for use in gang warfare and general mischief. Switch to a Melee Weapon (like a Fist), Target a gang member, and press R3 to recruit. [4] - These commands are used with the Binoculars and the Camera. [5] - This command is used with the Camera. /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ 0XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 | I.11.B. Hand to Hand Combat \ 0XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 While all GTAs have some form of hand-to-hand weaponless combat, in Vice City Stories it has been expanded tremendously. You can grab people, throw them, get on top of them, use combos, and even do insta-kill neckbreaks. Neat. Of course, the people on the street aren't exactly weaklings. Many of them will fight back when attacked and some of them are pretty tough to bring down. In addition, too many neckbreaks at one time will quickly attract the attention of the Cops. To start fighting someone, target them with the R1 Button and then perform any action you want to take. 0=========0 | Controls \ 0===========0 >>When targeting someone: *********************** 2-Move Power Combo...........................................(Tap) X Button 4-Move Standard Combo...................................(Tap) Circle Button Grab (From front or back)...................................Triangle Button Block.........................................................Square Button >>When grabbing someone from the front: ************************************* Massive Punch...............................................(Hold) X Button 2-Move Standard Combo...................................(Tap) Circle Button Throw.......................................................Triangle Button >>When grabbing someone from the back: ************************************ Knee in the Back .................................................X Button Jab in the Neck...............................................Circle Button Neckbreak...................................................Triangle Button >>When someone is on the ground: ****************************** Stomp/Kick.........................................................X Button Punch.........................................................Circle Button Pull Up.....................................................Triangle Button >>When targeting a dead person: ***************************** Stomp/Kick..............................................X or Circle Buttons /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ 0XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 | I.11.C. [2] - This allows you to freely aim your weapon in any direction you choose. Very helpful when going after the Red Balloons (explained later in the guide). For best results, hold L3 first THEN press R1. This will keep you from accidentally targeting someone (like a Cop). [3] - This is used with Free Aim mode, Sniper Rifles, and Rocket Launchers. [4] - When holding a melee weapon (like a bat) , the Circle Button is used to swing at your target. When using Grenades or Molotovs, the same button is used to throw your weapon at the target. The longer you hold, the farther you throw. When holding a gun (like an Equalizer) or a heavy weapon (like a Rocket Launcher), you use the Circle Button to shoot. [5] - These commands are used when targeting with a Sniper Rifle. /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ 0XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 | I.11.D. Bicycles \ 0XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 One other interesting difference between Vice City Stories and Original Vice City is the inclusion of bicycles. There is only one checkpoint race, "Mashin' Up the Mall", that uses a bicycle. There is also one parked in the backyard just west of The Mendez Brothers house on Prawn Island. But, for the most part, they are kind of useless in general practice. However, it does make for a very amusing rampage vehicle when shooting up the town and pissing off the Cops. There are no skills to upgrade like you could in "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" but the Infinite Run feature (from doing the Ambulance Mission) will keep you from slowing down when on a bike. 0=========0 | Controls \ 0===========0 Pedal.......................................................(Hold) X Button Pedal Faster.................................................(Tap) X Button Brake.............................................................R1 Button Reverse.......................................................Square Button Bunnyhop..........................................................L1 Button Bunnyhop Higher............................................(Hold) L1 Button Look Left.........................................................L2 Button Look Right........................................................R2 Button Look Behind.................................................L2 + R2 Buttons [1] Attack (Drive-By Mode)............Circle Button (Plus L2 or R2 Buttons) Exit Bike...................................................Triangle Button 0-----------------------------------------------------------------------0 [1] - You can also shoot forward while riding a bicycle by just holding down the Circle Button without using the L2 or R2 Buttons. /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ 0XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 | I.11.E. Swimming \ 0XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 In Vice City Stories you can swim, unlike Tommy Vercetti, in Original Vice City, who prefers to just drown. You can't go underwater like you could in "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" but you can still do pretty well on the surface. Of course, you're thinking "what's going to keep me from swimming to the other side early". Two things. First, there is a Swimming Stamina Bar that appears where the Armor Bar is. You have a limited amount of swimming stamina while in the water. It goes down faster the faster you swim. When it runs out, you drown. You can gain Infinite Swimming Stamina by successfully completing the Beach Patrol vehicle side-mission (after unlocking the East Side). Second, there is a Wave Generator that activates when you get far enough east of where you are supposed to be. When you go too far east, you will start to see very large waves being generated. These waves will stop you in your tracks when you are swimming and when you stop swimming the waves will push you back west. But there is an easy way to get to the other side early and that will be explained later in the guide. 0=========0 | Controls \ 0===========0 Swim Direction............................................Left Analog Stick Look Around..............................................Right Analog Stick Sprint......................................................(Hold) X Button Climb Up......................................................Square Button Enter Boat..................................................Triangle Button Pause..........................................................Start Button Change Camera Mode............................................Select Button /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ 0XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 | I.11.F. In Cars, Motorcycles, Boats, and Jetskis \ 0XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 As with all the other GTAs there are plenty of cars to use in Vice City Stories. From junkers and gang cars to the fanciest sports cars. They can all be used here. And there two new land vehicles introduced in VCS. The first is the Bover '64 which is a hovercraft and the second is a Splitz-6 ATV. These two are all-terrain vehicles and can go over any surface. In addition, the motorcycles are great for exploration, jumping, and looking cool on. Perhaps the single biggest advantage to the bikes is the fact that you can shoot forward (using a submachine gun) while riding one. You can then take out anyone that tries to cut in front of you (like a Police car). However, there are a couple of disadvantages. First, it is much easier for a cop to knock you off and bust you than if he busts you in a car. Second, you can easily wipe out or get knocked off by other motorists if you're not careful. But let's not forget the boats. They are part of the culture of Vice City. From sailboats to speedboats they are all represented. But there is a new water vehicle being introduced in VCS: the Jetski. This vehicle is perfect for water based jumping, racing, and drive-bying boats. 0=========0 | Controls \ 0===========0 [1] Turn Vehicle..........................................Left Analog Stick [1] Turn Vehicle............................................Directional Pad Accelerate.........................................................X Button [2] Brake.........................................................R1 Button Reverse.......................................................Square Button [3] Attack (Drive-By Mode)............Circle Button (Plus L2 or R2 Buttons) [4] Exit Vehicle............................................Triangle Button Look Left (Drive-By Mode).........................................L2 Button Look Right (Drive-By Mode)........................................R2 Button Look Behind.................................................L2 + R2 Buttons Use Horn (Or Siren)...............................................L3 Button Change Radio Stations.............................................L1 Button Activate Vehicle Missions.........................................R3 Button Pause..........................................................Start Button Change Camera Mode............................................Select Button 0-----------------------------------------------------------------------0 [1] - Pull Back to perform a wheelie on a motorcycle. [3] - You can also shoot forward while riding a motorcycle by just holding down the Circle Button without using the L2 or R2 Buttons. [4] - You can jump from a moving car when you need to make a quick exit. You will hurt yourself a little bit when you do but that is much better then getting stuck in a flaming car that's about ready to blow up. /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ 0XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 | I.11.G. In Helicopters \ 0XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 There are plenty of helicopters to use in Vice City Stories. They can be used to quickly fly from one part of Vice City to another. Most of these choppers are used in side-missions and checkpoint races. The Sea Sparrow, which was an unlockable vehicle in Original Vice City, only appears during the mission "The Colonel's Coke" (Reni Wassulmaier) and the "Land, Sea, and Air Ace" checkpoint race in VCS. You need to fail one of those missions while in the Sea Sparrow to acquire it. One of the biggest differences between the helicopters used in VCS and the ones in Original Vice City is the fact that, when you hit a solid object like a building, the chopper doesn't spin in the direction of the blades. This makes it difficult to tell when you are actually hitting something and taking damage. This also makes it problematic when you are in tight spaces (such as in-between buildings). 0=========0 | Controls \ 0===========0 Move Forward...........................................Left Analog Stick Up Move Backward........................................Left Analog Stick Down Sidestep Left........................................Left Analog Stick Left Sidestep Right......................................Left Analog Stick Right Turn Clockwise....................................................R2 Button Turn Counterclockwise.............................................L2 Button Ascend.............................................................X Button Descend.......................................................Square Button Hover.............................................................L3 Button [1] Fire Guns.................................................Circle Button Exit Vehicle................................................Triangle Button [2] Change Radio Stations.........................................L1 Button [3] Activate Vehicle Mission......................................R3 Button Pause..........................................................Start Button Change Camera Mode............................................Select Button 0-----------------------------------------------------------------------0 [1] - This applies to the Little Willie and Sea Sparrow. [2] - The VCPD Maverick is the only helicopter, outside of the Hunter, that doesn't have a music radio. [3] - This is used for the "Air Rescue" side-mission. This can also be used to deactivate the "Fire Copter" and "Vice Sights" side-missions. /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ 0XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 | I.11.H. In Planes \ 0XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 There are two different planes to fly in Vice City Stories: the Skimmer and the Biplane. They are used mainly in checkpoint races but you can use them outside of that. 0=========0 | Controls \ 0===========0 Dive...................................................Left Analog Stick Up Rise.................................................Left Analog Stick Down Angle Left...........................................Left Analog Stick Left Angle Right.........................................Left Analog Stick Right Turn Left (Biplane)...............................................L2 Button Turn Right (Biplane)..............................................R2 Button Accelerate.........................................................X Button Decelerate....................................................Square Button Exit Vehicle................................................Triangle Button Change Radio Stations.............................................L1 Button [1] Deactivate Vehicle Mission....................................R3 Button Pause..........................................................Start Button Change Camera Mode............................................Select Button 0-----------------------------------------------------------------------0 [1] - You use this when you are in a checkpoint race and you wish to get out of it to use the plane in something else. /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ 0XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 | I.11.I. In the Rhino \ 0XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 The Rhino is probably the single toughest vehicle in the game and is one of the preferred vehicles to use in the Vigilante Mission (explained later in the guide). You can acquire this vehicle during a 6-Star Wanted Rating and take it from the soldiers or wait until after the mission "Last Stand" (Ricardo Diaz) where one will be unlocked for you at Fort Baxter Air Base. Although the Rhino is pretty tough, it is prone to being flipped on its roof more easily than in Original Vice City when hitting an object. Of course, it can still be easily destroyed by fire (from a Molotov or Flamethrower). Another weakness is Driver Damage which was explained in the last chapter. 0=========0 | Controls \ 0===========0 Turn Vehicle..............................................Left Analog Stick Accelerate.........................................................X Button Reverse.......................................................Square Button Brake.............................................................R1 Button Look Left.........................................................L2 Button Look Right........................................................R2 Button Look Behind.................................................L2 + R2 Buttons Turret Control...........................................Right Analog Stick Main Gun......................................................Circle Button Exit Rhino..................................................Triangle Button Use Horn..........................................................L3 Button Activate Vigilante Mission........................................R3 Button Pause..........................................................Start Button Change Camera Mode............................................Select Button /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ 0XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 | I.11.J. In the Hunter \ 0XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0 The Hunter appears at the southeastern part of Escobar International Airport after the mission "Last Stand" (Ricardo Diaz) and is used in the checkpoint race "Skywolf". It is also the single most preferred vehicle to use in the Vigilante Mission (explained later in the guide). If you wish to use the Hunter outside of the "Skywolf" race then either push it some distance from its spot with a large vehicle or cancel the race by pressing the R3 Button. There are some differences between the Hunter used in Vice City Stories and the one used in Original Vice City. First off, the Machine Gun has an incredible auto-aim system. The gun will automatically rotate to hit targets, even those to the side of the Hunter. A great way to rack up kills in the Vigilante Mission. However, it also has some disadvantages. Like the other helicopters in VCS, it won't spin when hitting a building or any other solid object making it more difficult to tell when you are taking damage. But the worst part is that the Hunter in VCS is MUCH weaker than the one in Original Vice City. It doesn't take a whole lot to destroy the attack chopper. Very disappointing. 0=========0 | Controls \ 0===========0 Move Forward...........................................Left Analog Stick Up Move Backward........................................Left Analog Stick Down Sidestep Left........................................Left Analog Stick Left Sidestep Right......................................Left Analog Stick Right Turn Clockwise....................................................R2 Button Turn Counterclockwise.............................................L2 Button Ascend.............................................................X Button Descend.......................................................Square Button Hover.............................................................L3 Button Fire Machine Gun..................................................R1 Button Fire Rockets..................................................Circle Button Exit Hunter.................................................Triangle Button Activate Vigilante Mission........................................R3 Button Pause..........................................................Start Button Change Camera Mode............................................Select Button /=========================================================================\ 0===========================================================================0 | I.12. Weapons [WPNS] | 0===========================================================================0 \=========================================================================/ Weapons are the tools of the trade for any professional criminal. There are 33 different weapons and items, in ten different categories, that can be found and used to create mayhem and abuse. However, you can only have one of each type at a time so you can only carry a maximum of nine weapons (one slot is used for a Camera or Binoculars). To switch out one weapon for another within the same slot, go over to the weapon you want and press L1 to switch out. With the exception of the MiniGun, you can run moderately fast to very fast when wielding weapons. The description of the weapons are listed here and their locations revealed in each major area of Vice City: /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ 0======================0 | Slot 1 - Other Items | 0======================0 \XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/ >>Camera ****** There is only one mission in the game in which this is used, "The Mugshot Longshot" (The Mendez Brothers) but you can keep the Camera afterward. >>Binoculars ********** This item is used to scope things out from a distance. /XXXXXXXXXXXXX\ 0===============0 | Slot 2 - Fist | 0===============0 \XXXXXXXXXXXXX/ >>Fist **** Your standard bare fist. >>Brass Knuckles ************** This is used to increase your fist damage by adding a piece of metal to make your fist more powerful. NOTE: Saving and reloading your games tend to make this weapon vanish from your inventory (thanks to Risto Siltanen for that tip). /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ 0========================0 | Slot 3 - Melee Weapons | 0========================0 \XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/ These weapons are used for pounding, stabbing, and slicing your enemies. There are quite a lot of choices here for the discriminating hoodlum..... >>Baseball Bat ************ Great for batting practice (on somebody's head) or breaking kneecaps. >>Nightstick ********** This can be acquired from a dead Cop or any nearby Police Station. >>Golf Club ********* Can be acquired in or around Leaf Links Golf Course (usually by mugging a golfer). You can improve your swing and work somebody over at the same time..... >>Hatchet ******* When you really do want to bury the Hatchet.....right between somebody's shoulder blades..... >>Hook Bar ******** Give somebody the hook.....literally..... >>Knife ***** For those who want to bring a blade to a gunfight..... >>Butterfly Knife *************** For those who want to bring a blade to a gunfight.....and look cool doing it..... >>Machete ******* For weeding out the thick underbrush of Vice City's criminal underbelly. >>Katana ****** For those who want to go ninja on somebody's ass. The longer you hold the Attack button, the farther you throw. >>Grenades ******** Toss one of these and watch the crowds scatter (in more ways than one)..... >>Molotov ******* Can be used to flambe' your enemies and yourself if you're too careless in where you throw one. Best used when you acquire the Fireproof Feature (by doing the Firefighter Mission) to keep yourself cool when everybody else is not..... >>Remote Grenade ************** Use this like a Grenade and detonate it at your leisure with the Circle Button. Good for ambushes. /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ 0===================0 | Slot 5 - Handguns | 0===================0 \XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/ >>Pistol ****** A decent handgun that can be bought or acquired from dead Cops. This gun is also known as a Government model 1911.You can use this while running to make yourself harder to hit while taking down someone at the same time. >>Equalizer ********* The best handgun around and one of the best weapons to use period. This is practically a one-kill weapon (except on SWAT members) making this very effective on most missions. You can't run while shooting with this gun but if you are quick with your targeting, you can still make fast work of a group of enemies with little damage. /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ 0===================0 | Slot 6 - Shotguns | 0===================0 \XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/ All of the Shotguns use the same ammo so you can actually increase your Shotgun ammo when switching from one type of Shotgun to another. >>Shotgun ******* Just a standard pump action single barreled shotgun. Slow on the fire rate but still effective. >>Stubby Shotgun ************** This Shotgun has had the barrel sawn off to make it easier to conceal. However, this greatly reduces it's range. But it's still a real beast up close. >>Spaz 12 ******* A much cooler looking rapid-fire shotgun. This is the best Shotgun in the game. /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ 0==========================0 | Slot 7 - Submachine Guns | 0==========================0 \XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/ These lightweight weapons can take out anyone very quickly. These are the only weapons that can be used while in a car, motorcycle, boat, or Jetski. You can also gain additional ammo when switching between submachine guns. >>Mac 10 ****** This gun has a fast rate of fire but a short effective range. And it's also pretty weak resulting in lots of rounds to kill someone. But you can run and aim at the same time like you can with a Pistol. >>Scorpion ******** This has the largest magazine of this group and is more accurate and powerful than the Mac 10 but has a slower rate of fire. Like the Pistol and the Mac 10, you can also aim and run at the same time using the Scorpion. >>Micro SMG ********* One of the better submachine guns, it has a good rate of fire and accuracy. It also has a slightly faster reload than the other submachine guns. Because you have to use two hands when firing, you can't aim and run at the same time while using the Micro SMG. >>SMG *** The best submachine gun in the group. Has a high rate of accuracy and fire making it preferred choice for drive-bys. Because you have to use two hands when firing, you can't aim and run at the same time. /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ 0=========================0 | Slot 8 - Assault Rifles | 0=========================0 \XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/ Both of the assault rifles listed here use the same ammo so you can increase the amount of ammo you get by switching rifles. >>AK-47 ***** This powerful Russian made assault rifle has a good rate of fire and decent range. >>Assault Rifle ************* This has a very fast rate of fire and better range but a small clip which requires frequent reloading. /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ 0========================0 | Slot 9 - Heavy Weapons | 0========================0 \XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/ These are some of the most powerful weapons in the game. They can be used to easily deal with the toughest of situations. >>M249 **** A large powerful Army-style machine gun. It uses a 7.62 mm NATO round and has a moderate rate of fire. Even so, this weapon will make quick work of even the toughest opponent. >>Flamethrower ************* Better than the Molotov for roasting nearby enemies because you can aim where the flames go. Great for clearing large crowds quickly. And its pretty effective against the Rhino too. While you can run with this weapon you do run slower than you can with other weapons. >>MiniGun ******* This gun, by far, is the most powerful non-explosive weapon in the game. However, you won't be able to get access to it until after the mission "Farewell to Arms" (Gonzalez). This is also the only weapon you cannot run with. >>Rocket Launcher *************** The ultimate in maximum destruction. With this weapon in hand, all will fear you.....at least not until after the mission "From Zero to Hero" (Lance Vance) at the earliest. While you can run with this weapon you do run slower than you can with other weapons. This weapon is also known as an RPG-7. /XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ 0=========================0 | Slot 10 - Sniper Rifles | 0=========================0 \XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/ >>Sniper Rifle ************ This fires one shot at a time and reloads slowly but it is very effective. Can also be used like binoculars to scope things out. This weapon is also known as a civilian model of both the M24 and the M40. >>Laser Sniper ************ The best sniper rifle around. It has a laser scope, rapid fire, and multi-round capability. /=========================================================================\ 0===========================================================================0 | I.15. Health, Body Armor, and Police Bribe Icons [HPBP] | 0===========================================================================0 \=========================================================================/ But Weapon Icons aren't the only things you will find scattered around Vice City. It is best to know where all the Police Bribe Icons are located before doing any missions so you can quickly deal with any law enforcement pursuit. Speaking of which..... /=========================================================================\ 0===========================================================================0 | I.16. Law Enforcement [LWFR] | 0===========================================================================0 \=========================================================================/ Every metropolis has a Police force and Vice City is no different. When you do something bad near a Cop, like mugging a person, one of the stars will light up indicating a Wanted Rating. The Cops will then try to bust you. The more stars you have, the more aggressive they will be. There are several ways to get rid of a Wanted Rating: >>Hiding out somewhere for a bit (only works at 1-Star). >>Driving a car (excluding rescue and Police Vehicles) into a Pay 'N' Spray. >>Getting a Police Bribe Icon (drops the Wanted Rating down a notch). >>Completing the current mission (if you get a Wanted Rating during one). >>Getting Busted or Wasted. >>Changing into a different Outfit. Works up to 2-Star. There are six Wanted Rating levels. The higher you go, the more aggressive the pursuit. Below are the Wanted Ratings and what you can expect: 0=======0 | 1-Star \ 0=========0 You are of mild interest to the Cops. They will chase you on foot, and they are pretty fast in Vice City Stories, and will smack you with their Nightsticks when close enough (and are pretty good bare-fist fighters too). Even at this Rating they are pretty aggressive and will put you on your ass quickly if you try to fight them without some kind of weapon (although you can grab hold of one and beat him senseless). Hiding out somewhere for awhile will get rid of a 1-Star Wanted Rating. 0=======0 | 2-Star \ 0=========0 Things get a bit more serious here. The number of Cops increase a bit and they will start shooting you instead of whacking you with their clubs. They are also very aggressive in vehicle pursuit, almost too aggressive. You can't wait things out this time but you can still switch out clothes to get rid of a 2-Star rating. 0=======0 | 3-Star \ 0=========0 At this level, a helicopter will start pursuing you and will shoot at you if you stand still long enough for it to do so. And the Police will get more aggressive in their pursuit of you including the use of Spike Strips which are used to blow out the tires of your car. In addition, the Vice Squad, with their Crockett and Tubbs look-alikes, will now join in the chase (in their high-priced Cheetahs). 0=======0 | 4-Star \ 0=========0 Now the SWAT team joins in. They will try to blockade the road with their Enforcers and rappel down from the Police helicopter. This is in addition to everything else being thrown at you. And the Police become more aggressive still in that when you approach a roadblock all of the SWAT fire together at your vehicle and will damage it considerably by the time you approach it. 0=======0 | 5-Star \ 0=========0 The FBI will now lend their assistance in hopes of bringing you down. They will ride in large FBI Washingtons and carry four agents, all packing MP5s and they are not afraid to use them. Approaching an FBI roadblock in anything other than a bulletproof vehicle is nothing short of suicide since they can quickly destroy even the toughest car before you can approach the roadblock. You can max out at 5-Star after the mission "To Victor, the Spoils" (Louise Cassidy-Williams). 0=======0 | 6-Star \ 0=========0 After making mincemeat of the Police force, including the FBI, the city will now call in the Army to deal with you. They will come in with Rhinos and trucks and will mainly try to kill you (but they will arrest you if the opportunity presents itself). The soldiers will kill you quickly with their SMGs and barely getting touched (while in a vehicle) by a Rhino will spell certain death. It will be quite difficult to survive at this level for very long. You can achieve this maximum rating after completing "From Zero to Hero" (Lance Vance). /=========================================================================\ 0===========================================================================0 | I.17. Using a Pay 'N' Spray [UPNS] | 0===========================================================================0 \=========================================================================/ As noted above you can drive a car or motorcycle, excluding Police and rescue vehicles, into a Pay 'N' Spray to change the color of your vehicle, as well as repair it, to get rid of Wanted Ratings at a cost of $100. After successfully completing all four vehicle lists for the Civil Asset Forfeiture Impound then all of your visits to the Pay 'N' Sprays are free. When you use the Pay 'N' Spray to get rid of your Wanted Ratings the Wanted Rating Stars will flash for a short time. While they are flashing you are considered to be on "probation". If you commit a crime, like running over someone, while the Wanted Rating Stars are flashing then your Wanted Rating will be reinstated. There are four Pay 'N' Sprays in Vice City where you can go to get rid of your Wanted Ratings and repair your vehicle: >>Little Haiti (West Side). >>Viceport (West Side). >>Vice Point (East Side). >>Ocean Beach (East Side). /=========================================================================\ 0===========================================================================0 | I.18. Busted [BSTD] | 0===========================================================================0 \=========================================================================/ If you get a Wanted Rating and the Cops end up catching you, you are then Busted. Any mission you were doing at the time will be Failed. When you are Busted, you are sent to the nearest Police Station where you will be processed (which takes six game hours) and released. You also lose all weapons including your Body Armor. In addition, you will be fined based on the number of Wanted Rating Stars you have when you are Busted: >>1-Star: $100. >>2-Star: $200. >>3-Star: $400. >>4-Star: $600. >>5-Star: $900. >>6-Star: $1,500. However, you can regain your weapons, but not your Body Armor, by utilizing the nearby Weapon Bribe Purchase Icon (explained earlier). But don't wait too long, it will disappear after you wander off and you will have to rebuild your arsenal from scratch. If you were in the middle of a mission when you were Busted, you will also find a Taxi, with a blue arrow above it, nearby. This will take you back near where you got the mission you were trying to do for a cost of $9. There are four Police Stations in Vice City where you may find yourself if you are Busted by the Cops: >>Downtown. >>Little Havana. >>Vice Point. >>Washington Beach. /=========================================================================\ 0===========================================================================0 | I.19. Wasted [WSTD] | 0===========================================================================0 \=========================================================================/ If you do something to empty your Health Bar, like being too close to an explosion, getting shot up a lot, or drowning, you will then be Wasted. Any mission you were doing at the time will be Failed. When you are Wasted, you are sent to the nearest Hospital where you will be treated (which takes six game hours), billed $100, and released. You also lose all weapons including your Body Armor. However, you can regain your weapons, but not your Body Armor, by utilizing the nearby Weapon Bribe Purchase Icon (explained earlier). But don't wait too long, it will disappear after you wander off and you will have to rebuild your arsenal from scratch. Police Vehicles and Vigilante Missions [PVMS] | 0===========================================================================0 \=========================================================================/ In addition to all of the other cars you can use in Vice City Stories you can use Police Vehicles. The main reason for acquiring one is for use in the Vigilante Mission which is explained later in the guide. In addition, some have additional features and bonuses that can help you. Listed below are the Police Vehicles utilized in Vice City Stories: >>VCPD Cruiser (Found anywhere. Bonus: you get 5 Shotgun shells when entering one (if you don't already have a Shotgun you can get a Shotgun with 5 shells)). >>VCPD Wintergreen (Police motorcycle). >>VCPD Cheetah (at 3-Star Wanted Rating). >>VCPD Enforcer (At 4-Star Wanted Rating plus at the back of the Downtown Police Station. Bonus: you can get Body Armor when entering an Enforcer). >>FBI Washington (At 5-Star Wanted Rating). >>Rhino (At 6-Star Wanted Rating - also unlocked inside of Fort Baxter after completing the mission "Last Stand" (Ricardo Diaz)). >>Hunter (Unlocked at Escobar International Airport after completing the mission "Last Stand" (Ricardo Diaz) - also used to for the checkpoint race "Skywolf"). Although there are Motorcycle Cops in Vice City Stories they are not aggressive at all. This is a far cry from the Motorcycle Cops in "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" which constantly shot at your car from behind and made car chases far less fun. But this means that you now have an option of using the Police motorcycle in the Vigilante Mission which can make it somewhat easier due to the fact that you can shoot forward instead of just from the sides. One of the best vehicles to use in the Vigilante Mission is the Rhino. The Rhino isn't too hard to get once you are able to generate 6-Star Wanted Ratings to get them to show up. I have a chapter that outlines on how to acquire one and how to use it in the Vigilante Mission. The Hunter, however, shows up after the Main Story Missions are done (after the mission "Last Stand" (Ricardo Diaz)) and used in the checkpoint race "Skywolf". Nevertheless, if you waited this long to do the Vigilante Mission, the is the absolute best vehicle to use. /=========================================================================\ 0===========================================================================0 | I.21. This is where many corporations and businesses set up shop. It is also home to the world famous Hyman Memorial Stadium where many concerts and events are held. South of Downtown is Little Haiti where most of the resident Carribeans live and work. The area has a lot of rundown homes and small businesses. Little Havana is where most of the resident Cubans work and live. Although this neighborhood is a bit rundown like Little Haiti, the residents do manage to make it more colorful and lively. To the east of Little Havana is Starfish Island. This area is where the richest make their residence. Million dollar mansions dot the small island. Plus a large one being built on the south side of the island. South of Little Havana is the Viceport area. This is where the ships dock to unload cargo from all over the world. The vast majority of this district consists of large warehouses and the Vice City Port Authority buildings. West of Little Havana is Escobar International Airport. This is where many people fly in from all over the world to partake in the splendor that is Vice City whether it be for business or pleasure. However, due to the threat of a major hurricane, nobody can fly in or out of the Airport. All of the bridges to the East Side of Vice City have been closed so you cannot go there for the foreseeable future. Large waves, which are being generated by the large tropical disturbance offshore, will prevent anyone from swimming very far in Vice City's waters. Just north of Escobar International Airport is Fort Baxter Air Base. This is the main military base for the Vice City area. It's primary purposes is to serve as a deterrent to nearby communist Cuba and to help out law enforcement in crisis situations. And it is where we start the game..... /=========================================================================\ 0===========================================================================0 | II.1. In The Beginning..... [INTB] | 0===========================================================================0 \=========================================================================/ Vice City: 1984. A military truck drives into Fort Baxter Air Base. In the back is a lone passenger: Private Victor Vance. He has joined the military to help support his family which includes a sick brother who needs constant care. After leaving the truck, he meets his superior officer: Sgt. Jerry Martinez. However, Martinez turns out to be less than professional. He would rather get rich than help his country. After the two of them chat for a bit, Jerry wants Vic to go and pick up a package for him: "no risk". He also gives Vic a pager and the use of his motorcycle. This also starts the mission "Soldier" (Sgt. Jerry Martinez). Go over to the V.I.P. dock near Escobar International Airport (but if you want, go into the Main Terminal building and get the Body Armor found at Gate 9-14 on the upper level before going to the dock). When you get to the dock you start a cutscene with the contact. During the cutscene you are given the package and a message to give to Martinez. Unfortunately, you are ambushed and have to defend the boat against the attackers. The boat is eventually damaged to the point of where you have to abandon ship. After jumping from the boat you are given control again. Ignore the attackers and swim back to shore. You will be given instructions to head back to your Barracks. Once you get to your Barracks, the mission will be completed and you will get $50. Then go ahead, save your game, and have a look around the place..... /=========================================================================\ 0===========================================================================0 | II.2. To the east of your Barracks is a Health Icon and just to the northwest is a Patriot you can use to help explore the city. Empire Sites (West Side) [EMWS] | 0===========================================================================0 \=========================================================================/ In Vice City Stories there is a feature called Empire Building. It is here where you can build your own empire and make money. Part of that is to take over areas called Empire Sites. There are 30 of them and they are scattered throughout Vice City. They often change shape and size during the course of the game. They will also have a vehicle parked outside (but you can't take it). You may even see rival gangs fight near one of these Sites. At this point in the game you can't do anything with them and they won't even show up on the Main Map yet (not until after the mission "To Victor, the Spoils" (Louise Cassidy-Williams)). However, I've decided to list them and use them as landmarks to help find your way around. The Map co-ordinates refer to the printed map that comes included with the game disc. Listed below, by neighborhood, are the Empire Sites for the West Side of Vice City: /XXXXXXXXXXXXXX\ 0================0 | Downtown (DTN) | 0================0 \XXXXXXXXXXXXXX/ [DTN-ES1] - By the road curve west of The Dirtbike Track.
