[2. INTRODUCTION] [JUMP2.0]

What in the world is this FAQ you ask? Well, to put it simply, it's a central
resource for all the information about the NeoGeo Online Collection for PS2.
This series is currently (and probably always will be) only available in Japan.

Here's a breakdown of what you can find in the FAQ:
- Game Information
- Packaging Information
- Release Date
- Extras Included
- Codes and Secrets
- Problems and Issues
- Overall Thoughts

Here's what you WON'T find in this FAQ:
- Movelists
- How to Boot your IMPORT game
- Color Edit Recipes

Lastly, just for posterity sake, I will include some of the redone games that
aren't included in the collection. For one reason or another however (generally
the complete rework of the original game), these games were not included in the
collection. I'm including them here because well, I think they fit in with the
collection or it's also possible it's just my neuroses kicking in.

This FAQ does assume you understand the very basic workings of SNK Playmore
games as well as the games in these collections. Unless otherwise noted, I'm
not going to include how to select 2P colors, etc etc. You've been warned.

NOTE: If you didn't notice, I've added JUMP keys so you can find the particular
section you're looking for much faster. Enjoy!

------------------------------------------------------------------------

[3. THE COLLECTION] [JUMP3.0]

The NEOGEO Online Collection is comprised of several volumes each being a
particular game or series of games. Some of these volumes even included limited
edition releases. Pretty fancy stuff indeed! Below is a brief list of the
volumes and their full titles:

NEOGEO Online Collection Volume 1: GAROU Mark of the Wolves
NEOGEO Online Collection Volume 2: Bakumatsuroman Gekka no Kenshi
NEOGEO Online Collection Volume 3: The King of Fighters Orochi Collection
NEOGEO Online Collection Volume 4: Ryuuko no Ken Ten-Chi-Jin
NEOGEO Online Collection Volume 5: Garou Densetsu Battle Archive 1
NEOGEO Online Collection Volume 6: Garou Densetsu Battle Archive 2
NEOGEO Online Collection Volume 7: The King of Fighters Nests Collection
NEOGEO Online Collection Volume 8: Fuuun Super Combo

World Heroes and Samurai Spirits are rumored (with confirmation from SNKP) to be
coming to the collection as well. Who knows what numbers they will get though.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
[4. VOLUME 1: GAROU MARK OF THE WOLVES] [JUMP4.0]

Game Name: NEOGEO Online Collection Volume 1: GAROU Mark of the Wolves

Rating: CERO12

Limited Edition: YES
- Included LIGHT RED GAROU style NEOGEO Joystick2 (Only 3,000 made)

Geese Howard. Also has the logo for the game. (Back) Primarily information about
the game. (Spine Color) RED.
- No Info on LE at this time.

Games Included: GAROU Mark of the Wolves.

Color Edits: NO

Arrange Music: YES (Listed as Original or NEOGEO, ie Arranged or Original
respectively)

Extras Included:
- Game includes a Gallery as well as playable Boss Characters.
- Game includes in-game movelists.

Secrets:
- Select Kain and Grant by going off the character select screen to the right
or left of Terry or Rock respectively.
- Unlock a character's ending artwork by completing Arcade mode with that
character.
- Unlock ALL artwork by completing Survival with any character (beat all
characters in the game at least once.)

Problems and Issues:
None a truly FLAWLESS port of the original game without the sound issues that
plagued the Dreamcast Release.

Overall Thoughts:
For the initial release in the series, this game was absolutely stunning and it
was welcomed into many a gamers' collection with open arms. Since the Dreamcast
rendition of the game had various sound sync errors and frame problems, a
perfect port was expected when this Volume was announced. SNK Playmore did not
disappoint.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
[5. VOLUME 2: BAKUMATSUROMAN GEKKA NO KENSHI] [JUMP5.0]

Game Name: NEOGEO Online Collection Volume 2: Bakumatsuroman Gekka no Kenshi
Release Date: 01/12/06
Other Names: Last Blade 2-in-1, Bakumatsu Roman Gekka no Kenshi 1*2
Rating: CERO12

Limited Edition: NO

Package Information:
(Front) A collage of various 'good' characters in the series along with logos
for each of the two games in the collection. (Back) Less information than Garou
so we see some more character art. (Spine Color) RED.

Games Included: Bakumatsuroman Gekka no Kenshi (Last Blade), Bakumatsuroman dai
ni maku Gekka no Kenshi (Last Blade 2).

Color Edits: YES
- Hold SELECT while choosing correlating color edit.

Arrange Music: YES

Extras Included:
- Game includes all playable Secret Characters from Home Versions.
- First game in Collection to use what is now the standard Start Screen and
Options.
- First game in Collection to use Color Edits.
- Both games support a myriad of languages.

Secrets:

Bakumatsuroman Gekka no Kenshi (Last Blade)
- Third Outfit: Press START when choosing character
- Play as Musashi: Press Cx6, Bx3, Cx4 while highlighting any character. This
code must be done quickly. He should appear on the select screen.

Bakumatsuroman dai ni maku Gekka no Kenshi (Last Blade 2)
- Play as Original Kaede: Highlight Kaede and press Cx9, Bx1, Cx4. The code is
confirmed by a sound. Select Kaede without moving off his portrait.
- Play as Koryu: Highlight Kaede and press Cx10, Bx5, Cx4. The code is
confirmed by a sound. Select Kaede without moving off his portrait. Koryu will
replace Kaede.
- Akari's Mirror Mode: Highlight Akari and press Cx8, Bx9, Cx1. The code is
confirmed by a sound. Select Akari without moving off her portrait. You will
assume the form of your opponent in every match.
- Shingen's Joke Fight Intro: Highlight Shingen and press Cx5, Bx10, Cx2. The
code is confirmed by a sound. Select Shingen without moving off his portrait.
- Select EX Mode: Select your character as normal. When at the Mode selection
screen, while on SPEED, press Cx6, move to POWER, press Bx3, move to SPEED,
press Cx4. EX should replace both SPEED and POWER. You can no longer select
SPEED or POWER after entering this code until you select a new character.

Problems and Issues:
There has been reports (which I can confirm) that the sound on this collection
seems somewhat muffled. Word has it that there are some frames of animation
missing but I haven't noticed any. Any frames missing DO NOT affect gameplay
whatsoever, so that's a moot point. Also, the sound may seem muffled because
the music/sfx are split into stereo. The originals did not have this ability.
There is also a setting within the main menu that allows you to adjust either
the music or the sfx volume.

Overall Thoughts:
As a second release, we saw a variety of new additions to the structure of the
collections. While the game suffered slightly by having 'muffled' sound, I
don't think this outweighs what a wonderful addition to a person's library this
is. This volume is revered as the 'Bastard' of the collection and while it may
be the most lacking, it did introduce a lot of ideas and set up the fans to
expect a lot of wonderful things in the future.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
[6. VOLUME 3: THE KING OF FIGHTERS OROCHI COLLECTION] [JUMP6.0]

Game Name: NEOGEO Online Collection Volume 3: The King of Fighters Orochi
Collection
Release Date: 04/20/06
Rating: CERO12

Limited Edition: YES
- Included DARK BROWN Kusanagi style NEOGEO Joystick2

Package Information:
- Regular: (Front) Kyo and friends stand amongst a flame while Orochi is poised
at the bottom with red eyes. (Back) Primarily information about the game and
character art, BUT!!! WE GET SCREENSHOTS for the first time. (Spine Color) RED.
- No Info on LE at this time.

Games Included: The King of Fighters '95, The King of Fighters '96, The King of
Fighters '97.

Color Edits: YES
- Hold SELECT while choosing correlating color edit.

Arrange Music: YES

Extras Included:
- Game includes playable Boss Characters not found in any other version.
- KOF'96 and KOF'97 include language options. KOF'95 does not.

Secrets:
- All secret characters are already present on the select screen.
- To select Kyo'94, hold START while selecting Kyo in KOF'97.

Problems and Issues:
I haven't noticed any problems with this rendition of these games. The music
cut-off in KOF96 still happens every now and then, but that was in the original,
so I'm not gonna dock them for that.

Overall Thoughts:
After GAROU, this was the most anticipated release in the series. Outside the
NEOGEO consoles, these games NEVER got a truly faithful port. The closest was
the Saturn ports which even lacked somewhat and were plagued by load times
galore.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
[7. VOLUME 4: RYUUKO NO KEN TEN-CHI-JIN] [JUMP7.0]

Game Name: NEOGEO Online Collection Volume 4: Ryuuko no Ken Ten-Chi-Jin
Release Date: 05/11/06
Other Names: Art of Fighting Collection
Rating: CERO12

Limited Edition: NO

Package Information:
(Front) Ryo and Robert appear prepared to due battle with an array of combatants
shown behind them. (Back) Primarily information about the game and character art
along with two screenshots. (Spine Color) RED.

Games Included: Ryuuko no Ken, Ryuuko no Ken 2, Art of Fighting: Ryuuko no Ken
Gaiden.

Color Edits: YES
- Hold SELECT while choosing correlating color edit.

Arrange Music: YES

Extras Included:
- All games include language options. These games have the least options to
date of any collection game.

Secrets:
- All secret characters are unlocked. HOWEVER, we were denied Young Geese.
Mr.Big and Mr.Karate can only be used in VS mode for Ryuuko no Ken.
- Birthday codes still apply using your PS2 internal clock for Ryuuko 3.

Problems and Issues:
NCSX exclaims there is a frame drop problem within Ryuuko 1 and 2. I personally
don't see it, but I could be looking in the wrong places. The sound is dead on
however and Ryuuko 3 is the best conversion out of the three. The first two
games still retain their hellish difficulty. Good luck!

Overall Thoughts:
This is probably the most overlooked of the collection. Even I recall having a
bad taste in my mouth from yesteryear about the Ryuuko games. Ryuuko 1 and 2
definitely remind me of this. The shining star in this collection is Ryuuko 3
with its crisp graphics and sound. It's an amazing game and I'm absolutely
ashamed that I didn't play it before. If you're looking for an excellent game
that you missed years ago, Ryuuko 3 is your answer!

------------------------------------------------------------------------
[8. VOLUME 5: GAROU DENSETSU BATTLE ARCHIVE 1] [JUMP8.0]

Game Name: NEOGEO Online Collection Volume 5: Garou Densetsu Battle Archive 1
Release Date: 07/20/06
Other Names: Fatal Fury Collection
Rating: CERO B

Limited Edition: NO

Package Information:
(Front) Terry Bogard's back faces the viewer while shadows of the villains
litter his surroundings. (Back) Primarily information about the game and
character art along with a screenshot from each game. (Spine Color) RED.

Games Included: Garou Densetsu, Garou Densetsu 2, Garou Densetsu Special, Garou
Densetsu 3: Road to Final Victory.

Color Edits: YES
- Hold SELECT while choosing correlating color edit.

Arrange Music: YES

Extras Included:
- Only Garou Densetsu 3 includes language options. These games include menus
that rival the Ryuuko no Ken Collection for simplicity.

Secrets:
- All secret characters are already unlocked in Garou Densetsu 1-Special. Ryo
can be selected only in VS matches on Garou Densetsu Special.
- A code must be entered after every booting of Garou 3 in order to enable
Yamazaki and the Jin Twins. At the character select screen, highlight the
following characters and press B once on each character Terry, Hon-Fu, Mai,
Geese, Bob, Sokaku, Joe, and lastly Blue Mary. Each time, you should hear a
chime and after Mary, the screen will fade out and return with the Jin twins and
Yamazaki selectable.

Problems and Issues:
NCSX exclaims there is a hollow sound issue in Garou Densetsu. I don't have a
cart to check it against, so um...I dunno. All the other games are dead-on from
what I can tell.

Overall Thoughts:
The only Garou collection better than this is Volume 6 which covers the Real
Bout series. Everything you loved about the original four games is in this
collection and it was one of my personal favorites in the series. Who can
forget the introduction of Yamazaki to the world?

------------------------------------------------------------------------
[9. VOLUME 6: GAROU DENSETSU BATTLE ARCHIVE 2] [JUMP9.0]

Game Name: NEOGEO Online Collection Volume 6: Garou Densetsu Battle Archive 2
Release Date: 02/22/07
Other Names: Real Bout Fatal Fury Collection
Rating: CERO B

Limited Edition: NO

Package Information:
(Front) Terry Bogard tosses his cap towards you while he's surrounded by all his
friends. (Back) Primarily information about the game and character art along
with a screenshot from each game. Alfred is hiding out. (Spine Color) BLUE.

Games Included: Real Bout Garou Densetsu, Real Bout Garou Densetsu Special, Real
Bout Garou Densetsu 2.

Color Edits: YES
- Hold SELECT while choosing correlating color edit.

Arrange Music: YES

Extras Included:
- First game in collection to have a BLUE spine.
- Each game features an in-game movelist on the pause menu.
- First game to include a practice mode (separate from actual games.)
- All the games include language options and the menus, though somewhat scarce,
look more modern and fit each game better.

Secrets:

Real Bout Garou Densetsu Special:
- Play as Geese and EX Characters: Let the demo run until it reaches the Ranking
Screen. At this screen, do a counter clockwise 360 motion starting at RIGHT.
Follow this by holding DOWN-RIGHT and pressing A, B, C. Geese himself will
confirm the code by saying "Come On." This enables Nightmare Geese to be
selected as well as the EX characters. To select an EX character, highlight
Tung, Mary, Billy, or Andy and hold B+C while selecting them. This code must be
entered every time the game is booted.
- Fight Nightmare Geese: Complete the game while never getting below an A
ranking. You must also get at least 3 SSS rankings, 2 AAA rankings, and earn at
least 1,000,000 points. Nightmare Geese will challenge you. Also, if you beat
Geese, you'll be awarded with the EX characters and Geese being unlocked from
the get-go instead of having to do the code each time. There are also reports
that the requirements to fight Geese are somewhat easier in this collection. I
personally haven't tried it myself.

Real Bout Garou Densetsu 2:
- Play as Alfred: Highlight any character and hold B+C and select a character.
The portrait will change to the hidden boss of the game, Alfred.
- Fight Alfred: Beat Geese or Krauser without losing a single round in all
matches and finishing with either 7+ S-Power finishes or 5+ P-Power Finishes.

Problems and Issues:
Not a single problem that I can tell. Mad props to SNKP.

Overall Thoughts:
This volume finishes up the Garou Densetsu series so that all of the Garou games
can be played in their glory on your PS2. This volume also boasts some of the
best gameplay found in an SNK fighter. If you haven't played Real Bout before,
now is your time and you should be on this volume like white on rice.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
[10. VOLUME 7: THE KING OF FIGHTERS NESTS COLLECTION] [JUMP10.0]

Game Name: NEOGEO Online Collection Volume 7: The King of Fighter's Nests
Collection
Release Date: 04/18/07
Rating: CERO B

Limited Edition: NO

Package Information:
(Front) K' is surrounded by friends and enemies. Most notable thing is the rows
of Kyo clones going away from Zero and Krizalid. (Back) A mass of information
like previous volumes along with art from all three titles included in the
volume. Two screen shots. (Spine Color) BLUE.

Games Included: The King of Fighters '99, The King of Fighters 2000 (both
NeoGeo Original and Dreamcast), The King of Fighters 2001 (both NeoGeo Original
and Dreamcast), The King of Fighters '99 Evolution (Dreamcast.)

Color Edits: YES and NO
- Hold SELECT while choosing correlating color edit.
- Not valid in NEOGEO modes of games.

Arrange Music: YES and NO
- Not valid in NEOGEO modes of games.

Extras Included:
- Each game features an in-game movelist on the pause menu for Dreamcast
versions of games.
- Dreamcast and NEOGEO versions include a practice mode.
- No movelist for NEOGEO versions.
- 2000 DC includes gallery puzzle mode!
- 2001 DC includes the puzzle mode!

Secrets:
- Everything is unlocked from the get-go. Thanks SNK Playmore!! Puzzle are not
completed in the 2000 puzzle mode however, there are no benefits for
completing them...I think.

Problems and Issues: DC versions suffer from slightly muffled voices. There is
no controller edit for NEOGEO mode. The color edits don't work on NEOGEO mode
(this is my biggest gripe...lol.) I would have loved to edit my striker colors
too. The controls are a bit stiff. I usually don't say this about games but
these are amazingly stiff. If you don't perform a move the way the game 'likes'
it, it won't come out properly. This is especially annoying with double quarter
circles ending up as dragon punch motions. Go figure.

Overall Thoughts: I can't say I wasn't somewhat upset with the choice of the
Dreamcast versions of 2000/2001. While I believe it was a choice to stay as
close to the originals and to balance online play, I would have liked the extra
backgrounds and other goodies that didn't affect gameplay. Overall however, I'm
very pleased with this collection since one of my favorite games now has color
edits (yes, I enjoy 2001 a lot...shrug.) I still wish the NEOGEO versions would
have been cleaned up more and the choice to play the originals would have been
just as important as the Dreamcast updates. Beggars can't be choosers though I
suppose.
