1. INTRODUCTION
O----------------O

It\'s said that heroes appear in times of crisis.
The time: end of the 2nd century; the place: China.
To answer the call of the times, they have come.

Its cries rendering the skies, the Phoenix soars.
Shaking the ground beneath its feet, the Tiger roars.
Piercing the clouds\' veil, the Dragon rises to the heavens.

Wherever they go, there rains fire and destruction.
And so the age rages on:
There is none who can stop it.

                         - From the Dynasty Warriors 4 Instruction Manual

The fourth installment of Koei\'s and Omega Force\'s widely popular Dynasty
Warriors series, Dynasty Warrior 4 features the greatest heroes from the
Romance of the Three Kingdoms saga raging across the land for control over
China. Featuring enhanced graphics, a new soundtrack, a branching story
system, and bigger and harder battles, Dynasty Warriors 4 is sure to please
fans of the series.

2. VERSION HISTORY
O-------------------O

Version 2.01 (6/12/03) - Added minor updates and reader submitted
information.

Version 2.0 (5/16/03) - Major update to the FAQ. The exact requirements for
the 10th weapons and rare items have been released by KOEI in an article
featured in the May 2003 issue of Tips & Tricks magazine. I\'ve updated the
10th weapon and item sections with the requirements.

Version 1.23 (5/12/03) - I knew it would eventually happen sooner or later,
but someone has finally plagiarized one of my FAQs. This very one in fact.
Not only did this individual plagiarize this FAQ, but he blatantly
plagairized it by simplying removing my name and replacing it with his. Talk
about pathetic. You can find out about this loser in the acknowledgement
section. Sorry about ranting, but I just had to get this off my chest.
Anyway, added a few more reader-submitted information and a section on
character bodyguards in the bodyguard section.

Version 1.22 (5/05/03) - Added a few more corrections for the 10th weapon
requirements.

Version 1.21 (5/01/03) - Updated more of the 10th weapon requirements and
walkthroughs.

Version 1.2 (4/28/03) - Updated the FAQ and walkthrough sections. Added a new
section on bodyguards. Added a few strategy tips to the strategy section.

Version 1.1 (4/24/03) - Updated the 10th weapon section and clarified some of
the requirements with reader submissions. Updated more of the stage
walkthroughs with reader submissions.

Version 1.0 (4/20/03) - First completed version of this FAQ. All I need to do
is to add some minor details for a few sections, but other than that the FAQ
is pretty much complete. Future updates will be a bit spotty, as I have work
deadlines coming up. Added corrections for various stages in the
walkthroughs.

Version 0.7 (4/18/03) - Added listings of bonuses you receive when completing
certain Shu stages during an act before the final one. I\'ll probably add more
later as I finish up the rest of the walkthroughs. Finished the Wu Musou Mode
walkthrough. Just a few more stages to go. Updated the Shu walkthroughs with
some additional information. Corrected the requirement for getting the Return
of the Yellow Turbans stage in the Shu Musou Mode. It seems a lot of people
had problems with unlocking that one. My apologies for the confusion.

Version 0.6 (4/17/03) - Added in depth strategy for the Imperial Seal stage,
since that seems to be a favorite for a lot of people. =) Updated the FAQ
section. Finished Wei\'s Musou Mode walkthrough. Began Wu Musou Mode
walkthrough. Added more events to the character event section.

Version 0.5 (4/15/03) - I\'ve finally figured out a fail-safe method for
getting Liu Zhang to surrender in the Campaign for Cheng Du. Check out the
Shu walkthrough on how to do it. Updated the FAQ section. Updated the
character section with more fifth and sixth charge attacks. Updated the 10th
weapon section with the weapon names. Finished the Shu Musou Mode
walkthroughs. Started on Wei Musou Mode walkthrough. Updated the other Musou
Mode walkthroughs with stages that are related to the Shu Musou Mode. Added a
section on unique character events in the miscellaneous section.

Version 0.4 (4/11/03) - Updated the FAQ section. Finished up the character
section for the most part and added more comments for each character. All I
need to add are the remaining fifth and sixth charge moves and duel quotes.
Began the detailed version of the walkthroughs, starting with Acts I and II
of the Shu, Wei, and Wu Musou Modes. Corrected requirements on how to unlock
the Battle of Tian Shui.

Version 0.3 (4/9/03) - Finally played through all the stages of the game. Now
that I have all the English stage names I can, as Zhang Liao put it in DW3,
\"move on to the planning.\" Added a section on obtaining the various endings
in the miscellaneous section. Updated character and walkthrough sections.

Version 0.2 (4/6/03) - Updated just about every section of the FAQ. Updated
the FAQ and character sections. Added comments and information to the item
section, as well as the locations for all of the items. 10th Weapon section
complete, but requirements for each weapon are still being finalized. Added
more stages and corrections to the walkthrough section. The stage paths and
secret stage requirements are finished for the Shu, Wei, Wu, Lu Bu, and
Nanman Musou Modes. Added a correction to the Shu \"Eliminate Zhang Jiao\"
stage.

Version 0.1 (4/3/03): First version of this FAQ. Since I\'m playing this game
just like everyone else, it\'s going to take some time to get all the English
names of each of the stages in the game. For the walkthroughs I\'ll briefly
touch on some of the main highlights, then get into details in later
versions. Please do not send me e-mails telling me I\'m missing a lot of
stuff, since I _am_ missing a lot of stuff. And do not send me any e-mails
asking me how to get any of the 10th weapons as I have not gotten any of them
as of yet.

O---------------------------------O
3. CHANGES IN DYNASTY WARRIORS 4
O---------------------------------O

[CHARACTERS]

- There are three new characters: Yue Ying (Shu), Cao Ren (Wei), and Zhou Tai
(Wu).

- Fu Xi and Nu Wa are not available in the game.

- Up to six alternate colors can be unlocked for each character as they gain
ranks. The last two are alternate costumes from Dynasty Warriors 4.

- Increasing a character\'s Life, Musou, Attack, and Defense abilities are a
bit easier.

[OFFICER EDIT]

- You can create up to four officers to use in the game.

[BODYGUARD EDIT]

- You can edit a group of bodyguards as in Dynasty Warriors 3 Xtreme Legends.

[CONTROLS]

- Characters can execute a Charge Attack in mid air. This attack will cause
the character to crash into the ground causing an explosion, knocking down
all enemies within range.

- Characters can announce themselves by pressing the R3 (Right Analog Stick)
down. This causes an aura to appear around the character. Any enemies within
range will be stunned temporarily.

- Characters can perform a counter move by pressing the Triangle button while
blocking (L1 button). During the counter animation if an enemy attacks you
will dodge the move and hit them with a counter attack, knocking them back.

- The Charge Attack (Triangle button) is now a special attack unique to each
character.

- The third Charge Attack (Square button x2, Triangle button) is now a multi
hit charge attack.

- The push back move (Square while guarding) is no longer available.

[MOUNTS]

- Horses are much faster. Having a Harness Item will allow you to track your
horse on the map.

- You can ride any mount regardless of rank.

- You can pick up items while mounted on a horse.

- You can dismount off a horse while it is running.

- Mounts no longer trample allies.

- Elephants are available on any stage with the special Elephant Harness
item.

[WEAPONS]

- Weapons are no longer found in battle. Instead weapons gain experience when
you defeat generals or perform combos on them. When a weapon gains a certain
level of experience it gains a level and increases in power. Every three
levels the weapon changes appearance and adds one to your maximum combos.

Level 1: Initial Weapon
Level 2: 1000 Exp
Level 3: 3000 Exp
Level 4: 6000 Exp +1 Combo
Level 5: 10000 Exp
Level 6: 15000 Exp
Level 7: 21000 Exp +1 Combo
Level 8: 28000 Exp
Level 9: 36000 Exp
Level 10: Special

[ITEMS]

- Characters now have a separate slot for a Harness item.

- A new Orb item allows Charge Attacks to have an elemental effect when the
Musou gauge is at max.

- The number of Item slots available to a character depends on their rank.
This is usually four at MAX rank, but some characters have five, and a few
even have six.

- There is a new temporary power up (Speed Boots) that maximizes your
movement speed for 30 seconds.

- Arrows now only come in increments of 10.

- The 200 and full life items are now a meat and chicken respectively.

[BODYGUARDS]

- Bodyguards can become much stronger than in previous games. You can control
the growth of bodyguards by equipping different weapons as they gain levels.

Sword: Concentrate on Life growth.
Spear: Concentrate on Musou growth.
Pike: Concentrate on Attack growth.
Bow: Concentrate on Defense growth.
Crossbow: Concentrate on Defense growth.

- Bodyguards can be given commands by pressing the Select button to change
the icon near your character\'s portrait.

Shield Icon: Defend your character.
Sword Icon: Aggressively attack nearby enemies.
Hand Icon: Wait at their current position for further orders.

[DUELS]

- When you encounter an enemy general, they may challenge you to a duel.
Accepting a duel will transport you from battle to an arena where you will
fight the general one on one. Losing the duel will result in a game over,
while winning a duel will instantly defeat that general in battle (as well as
give you their Item). If neither officer is defeated, the duel is a draw and
battle continues as normal. Refusing a duel will lower the morale of your
army, as will fighting to a draw during the duel. Before a duel both
officer\'s Life gauges are refilled to maximum. After the duel their Life
returns to the pre duel totals.

[RELATIONSHIPS]

- During the game you can develop relationships between characters depending
on your actions. If you assist officers that are struggling in battle, their
affection towards your character will increase. If you defeat an officer
frequently in battle, their affection towards your character will decrease.
Their affection will also drop if you defeat officers that are close or
related to them. For example, Liu Bei will usually help Guan Yu if he is in
trouble due to them being oath brothers. However, Guan Yu will most likely
challenge an officer that has defeated Zhang Fei to a duel since he is also
his oath brother. Characters that have high affection towards your character
will help you against enemies if you are nearby. Characters with low
affection are more likely to challenge you to a duel if they encounter you.

[STRATEGY]

- Officer units have a strategy plan they follow during the battle. You can
view the strategy of a unit using the Unit Info option in the menu. Some
strategies are more effective against others. With morale being even, a unit
that has a more effective strategy will have an edge in battle.

Balanced: Strong against all strategies.
Tactical: Strong against Offensive. Weak against Defensive.
Offensive: Strong against Defensive. Weak against Tactical.
Defensive: Strong against Tactical. Weak against Offensive.
Normal: Weak against all strategies.

- You can view the locations of sub generals under an officer in the Unit
Info option.

- Before a battle begins you can switch characters in the pre battle menu.
You can only change your character, and that character must be from your
kingdom.

[STAGES]

- Instead of having a Musou Mode for each character, there is a general Musou
Mode for each kingdom (Shu, Wei, and Wu). Each Musou Mode consists of six
acts with three stages each and one final battle. You only need to clear the
final battle of each act to move to the next, but clearing all the stages
before the final act often gives you advantages in the last stage for that
act.

- There are Musou Modes for all of the Free Mode characters as in Dynasty
Warriors 3 Xtreme Legends.

[ARCHERS]

- Archers fire much more slowly than before. The speed of their arrows has
also been decreased, allowing you to dodge them more easily.

- There is a new \"archer\" enemy, Bombardiers. These enemies throw bombs that
explode, damaging everyone within radius and knocking them into the air.
These bombs are dangerous to friends and foes alike.

[ENEMIES]

- Gate Captains no longer drop Defense shields. They drop Meat Buns instead.

- Enemy A.I. is more aggressive. Enemies around you will aggressively attack
you (even privates) if they see an opening, especially if your back is turned
to them. They will also chase you much further than before.

- Enemy bodyguards are much weaker than before defensively, but they are much
more aggressive. Primary enemy generals may have as many as 30 guards near
them.

- Morale plays a much bigger factor in determining how aggressive your
allies/enemies are. High morale will encourage your allies to attack/advance
more frequently, while low morale will encourage your enemies to
attack/advance more frequently.

number of Musou Modes before he becomes unlocked.
Meng Huo: In Musou Mode during The Nanman Campaign defeat Meng Huo in a duel.
You may need to defeat him all seven times as well. Kyp Durron also mentions
that he fought Meng Huo to a draw and still managed to unlock him.

Note that this must happen after defeating Meng Huo in a duel and Zhu Rong
announces her attack.

+========+
WEAPONS
+========+

Q: What is the maximum level of weapons?
A: Normally the maximum level of weapons is 9. A weapon can gain an
additional level under certain circumstances in Hard Difficulty (see 10TH
WEAPONS sections for details).

Q: Do 10th level weapons look different?
A: Yes.

Q: Do 10th level weapons have any special abilities?
A: They allow you to use Orb elemental Charge attacks without having a full
Musou gauge.

Q: I tried doing the requirements for (name)\'s level 10th weapon but it
didn\'t work!
A: The exact requirements for the 10th weapons are still unknown. Take them
with a grain of salt.

+======+
ITEMS
+======+

Q: What is the maximum level of Items?
A: Special Items have a maximum level of 20. Orbs have a maximum level of 4.

Q: How can I increase the amount of Items I can equip?
A: Increasing a character\'s rank increases the number of Special Items they
can equip (with the exception of Harnesses and Orbs). Most characters gain
the maximum number of Item slots at Max rank, which is usually four. Some
characters can have five, and a few even have six. Refer to the Items section
for more details.

Q: Where can I find (Item) level (number)?
A: The Items you obtain in each stage are completely random, as are the
levels. In general you can obtain higher level Items by playing the more
difficult stages at higher difficulty levels, but this isn\'t always the case.
Increasing your Luck also seems to help. For the locations of Special Items
refer to the ITEMS section. From my personal experience I\'ve gotten level 15
Items and level 3 Orbs just by playing easy difficulty. Josh Lesmeister
writes in to mention that he received a level 4 Vorpal Orb on easy
difficulty, but he also had a level 12 Seven Star Sash equipped at the time
so that might have had something to do with it.

Q: What is the best place for Items/Orbs?
A: There is no one best place for Item/Orbs because they all appear randomly.

Q: How do I get the Red Hare Harness?
A: This seems to be the most popularly requested item, so I\'ll go into a bit
more detail here. You will need to play the BATTLE OF XIA PI using LU BU\'S
FORCES. Difficulty doesn\'t matter, but it\'s obviously easier to get with the
difficulty set to easy. DO NOT KILL ANY ENEMY GENERALS OR SUB GENERALS UNITL
GUAN YU MEETS UP WITH RED HARE. Killing normal enemies is okay and is
encouraged, as this will improve morale and make it easier for Lu Bu to
survive. Once Guan Yu meets up with Red Hare it would be a good idea to save
your game. Defeat Guan Yu (who will be powered up) and the Harness should
appear on the little island to the southeast of the map. Several people have
written to me saying that the item won\'t appear if you defeat any generals
after the Guan Yu event. While I haven\'t confirmed this, just to be safe you
should avoid defeating any generals until you defeat Guan Yu.

+===========+
BODYGUARDS
+===========+

Due to popular demand I\'ve created a new bodyguard section in the FAQ. Please
refer to that section if you have any questions.

+==============+
MISCELLANEOUS
+==============+

Q: Does this game use any save data from Dynasty Warriors 3/Xtreme Legends?
A: No.

Q: How do I unlock the opening edit?
A: Unlock all 42 characters.

Q: How do I unlock the Nanman Musou Mode?
A: Unlock either Meng Huo or Zhu Rong.

Q: How to I unlock the Yellow Turban Musou Mode?
A: Unlock Zhang Jiao.

Q: How do I make the fire attack succeed at the Battle of Chi Bi?
A: The success (or failure) of the fire attack at the Battle of Chi Bi
determines which stages you will receive during Act V and the Final Act for
the Shu, Wei, and Wu Musou Modes.

For the fire attack at the Battle of Chi Bi to be successful:

1. You must ensure that Zhuge Liang survives long enough to make the wind
blow. He is located at the altar area on the west side of the map. Clear out
any enemies that are attacking him directly, then defeat all nearby enemy
generals. This should ensure that he survives long enough to make the wind
blow.

2. You must ensure that Huang Gai survives long enough to launch the fire
attack. He will appear near the east side of the central bridge a short
period of time after the wind blows. Clear the bridge area around him of
enemies, and defeat any nearby generals. This should ensure that he survives
long enough to launch the fire attack.

Note that the success of Pang Tong\'s plot is not necessary for the fire
attack to succeed, but it will significantly reduce the number of enemies on
the stage when the fire attack occurs. For Pang Tong\'s plot to succeed you
must meet with him in the northwest corner of the map and defeat Xu Shu (not
Xu Zhu!) before he encounters Pang Tong. Xu Shu should be somewhere northeast
of Pang Tong\'s position (he\'s a sub general under Cao Pi).

For the fire attack at the Battle of Chi Bi to be unsuccessful:

1. Defeat Zhuge Liang.

2. If Zhuge Liang is successful in making the wind blow, you can still
prevent the fire attack by waiting for the arrival of Huang Gai near the east
of the central bridge. Defeat Huang Gai when he arrives and the fire attack
will be prevented.

While stopping Pang Tong\'s plot is not necessary to stop the fire attack you
can still discover and foil his plot simply by meeting him in the northwest
corner of the map.

Note that if you are playing as Shu or Wu forces, you can clear the stage
before the fire attack occurs and it will count as if the fire attack had
failed for game purposes.

Q: How do I get Liu Zhang to surrender?
A: It\'s rather complicated. See the walkthrough for the Campaign for Cheng
Du.

Q: Where is the Imperial Seal?
A: See the walkthrough for the Imperial Seal.

Q: How do I unlock the Nanman Musou Mode?
A: You will need to unlock either Meng Huo or Zhu Rong.

Q: How do I unlock the Yellow Turban Musou Mode?
A: You will need to clear all other Musou Modes (Shu, Wei, Wu, Lu Bu, Dong
Zhuo, Yuan Shao, and Nanman).

Q: My controller keeps vibrating continuously! How do I stop this?
A: Many people have complained about this bug in the game. I myself have
never had this happen to me during play. If this happens to you the simplest
solution is to unplug your controller and plug it back in. If this doesn\'t
solve the problem you may have to turn the vibration off in the game\'s option
menu.

Charge 3: A linear boomerang toss.
Charge 4: A circular boomerang toss.
Charge 5: An upward slash followed by a downward slash.
Charge 6: A large burst of wind.
Musou Attack: A series of dart throws.
Comments: She has an extremely short range with her normal attacks, but her
Charge attacks have a much longer reach to compensate.

6. 10TH WEAPONS
O----------------O

In order to obtain a 10th weapon for a character you must already have their
9th weapon and the difficulty must be set on Hard. You can have a second
character assist you in obtaining the weapon, as long as one of the
characters is the one you\'re trying to obtain the weapon for.

In the May 2003 issue of Tips & Tricks magazine, there is a Dynasty Warriors
4 article by Pat Reynolds with 10th weapon and item requirements straight
from KOEI. I\'ve adjusted the requirements in the corresponding sections with
information from that article.

+=================+
Equippable Items
+=================+

Characters can equip only one harness and orb at a time. The maximum number
of special Items that can be equipped depends on the character and their
rank. At Max rank the maximum number of Item slots for each character is the
following:

Six Items: (Shu) Zhuge Liang, Pang Tong
           (Wei) Sima Yi

Five Items: (Shu) Liu Bei, Zhao Yun, Jiang Wei, Yue Ying
(Wei) Cao Cao, Zhang Liao, Zhang He, Zhen Ji
(Wu) Sun Jian, Sun Ce, Sun Shang Xiang, Zhou Yu, Lu Xun, Lu Meng,
                 Da Qiao, Xiao Qiao
(Other) Diao Chan, Yuan Shao, Zhu Rong, Zhang Jiao

All other characters have a maximum of four Item slots.

[Harnesses]

*    - Poor
** - Fair
*** - Good
**** - Excellent

Harnesses allow you to begin a stage mounted on a special horse. The position
of your horse is indicated on the large battle and pause menu map by an icon.

Red Hare Saddle (****)
Effect: Begin the battle mounted on Red Hare. The fastest horse in the game.
Stage Found: Battle of Xia Pi (Lu Bu\'s forces)
Requirements: Do not defeat any enemy generals until the cut scene where Guan
Yu meets Red Hare. Defeat Guan Yu for the item to appear. Be sure not to
defeat any other generals or sub generals until Guan Yu is defeated, as this
may prevent the item from appearing.
Comments: Since having a Harness does not take up an item slot, there\'s no
excuse why you shouldn\'t bring Red Hare along for the ride. The fastest horse
in the game is also the best horse in the game.

Hex Mark Saddle (**)
Effect: Begin the battle mounted on Hex Mark. Luck increases.
Comments: Not a bad horse, but Red Hare is so much better.
Stage Found: Campaign against Liu Bei (Yellow Turban forces - Musou Mode
only)
Requirements: In Act I, select The Yellow Turban Fortress first. Then select
the Campaign against Liu Bei. Defeat Zhao Yun and Guan Yu before the
reinforcements arrive (about 2 minutes from the start). Get Liu Bei\'s life to
about 50% for the item to appear.

Storm Saddle (**)
Effect: Begin the battle mounted on Storm Runner. Mounted Attack increases.
Comments: Ma Chao + Horned Helm + Storm Runner = Good Stuff.
Stage Found: Campaign against Cao Cao (Lu Bu\'s forces)
Requirements: See through either Xu Huang\'s or Yue Jin\'s ambushes. To see
through Xu Huang\'s ambush approach the east circular path from the south. To
see through Yue Jin\'s ambushes approach the west fort from the south. When
Xiahou Dun appears as reinforcements defeat him for the item to appear.

Shadow Saddle (***/**** with Ma Chao)
Effect: Begin the battle mounted on Shadow Runner. Cannot be dismounted by
attacks.
Stage Found: Battle of Tong Gate
Requirements: Defeat the four enemy generals in the southeast area. After the
cut scene with Han Sui and Cao Cao and the Ice Fortress appears, defeat Yu
Jin and Xu Huang. Defeat Cao Cao\'s sub generals and defeat enemies until his
morale drops to one star. After the cut scene where the horses are discovered
and the message that Han Sui refuses to defect appears, you will need to head
to the northeast area on a horse for the item to appear.
Comments: A good horse to use for any character. Godly if you\'re using Ma
Chao and his charge attack. Kurnia Yusuf writes in to mention that equipping
this Harness prevents you from being knocked off of _any_ horse. This works
for elephants as well.

Elephant Saddle (*)
Effect: Begin the stage mounted on an elephant.
Stage Found: The Nanman Campaign (Nanman forces)
Requirements: While riding an elephant enter the enemy base. King Mulu must
survive.
Tip: Huang Gai\'s bomb attack can knock allies of their mounts.
Comments: I guess riding an elephant around in some levels might be fun, but
you\'ll probably want to ride something a bit faster.

[Orbs] (Max level 4)

*    - Poor
** - Fair
*** - Good
**** - Excellent

Orbs add a special effect to Charge Attacks if the Musou gauge is at maximum.
The power and frequency of the effect increases as the Orb\'s level increases.

Fire Orb (**): Adds fire damage to attack. Enemies receive damage while they
are on fire.
Comments: Fire damage increases as Orb level increases.

Ice Orb (***): Temporarily freezes enemies, immobilizing them and reducing
their defense.
Comments: Chance of freezing enemies increases as Orb level increases.

Lightning Orb (**): Lightning strikes nearby enemies, knocking them down.
Comments: Lightning damage increases as Orb level increases.

Blast Orb (*): Damages enemies even when guarding.
Comments: Block damage increases as Orb level increases.

Vorpal Orb (****): Increased damage, chance to kill non-general enemies
instantly.
Comments: Chance to instantly kill enemies increases as Orb level increases.

Poison Orb (*): Poisons enemies, causing damage over time and reducing their
defense.
Comments: Damage and defense reduction increases as Orb level increases.

[Special Items] (Max level 20)

* - Poor. Equip only if you don\'t have anything better.
** - Fair. Useful in some circumstances. There are better options.
*** - Good. Great for improving a character\'s shortcomings.
**** - Excellent. You should always have this equipped.

Peacock Urn (***): Increases Life gauge.
Comments: Initially useful if your character has a short life gauge. Once you
start getting Dim Sum, I\'d recommend switching to the Tortoise Amulet.

Dragon Amulet (**): Increases Musou gauge.
Comments: I haven\'t found having more Musou to be particularly useful,
especially since the effects of Orbs is dependent on your Musou gauge being
full. The shorter your gauge the faster it will fill up. It\'s better just to
get Musou Wine power ups instead.

Tiger Amulet (****): Increases Attack.
Comments: Unlike previous games, the attack boost here is significant,
especially at higher levels. This gives weaker characters a good attack
boost, and makes stronger characters real powerhouses.

Tortoise Amulet (****): Increases Defense.
Comments: Like the Tiger Amulet, the Tortoise Amulet significantly boosts
defense, especially at higher levels. A high defense not only decreases the
damage you receive but also increases your resistance to being stunned by
attacks. There is no reason why you shouldn\'t have one equipped at all times.

Speed Scroll (***): Increases Speed.
Comments: The speed increase is not very noticeable unless this is at high
levels. It provides a one step boost in speed at level 20 (i.e. from very
slow to slow, or from fast to very fast).

Wing Boots (*): Increases Jump ability.
Comments: Slightly increases jump height. Not too useful.

Huang\'s Bow (*/**** with Huang Zhong or Xiahou Yuan): Increases Bow Attack.
Comments: Not too useful unless you are playing Huang Zhong or Xiahou Yuan.
This affects their Charge attacks as well.

Nanman Armor (*): Increases Bow Defense.
Comments: Considering that arrow damage has been toned down significantly,
this item isn\'t too useful.

Horned Helm (*/**** with Ma Chao): Increases Mounted Attack.
Comments: Not too useful unless you are playing Ma Chao. Ma Chao + Horned
Helm + Calvary Armor + Storm/Shadow Runner = Good stuff.

Calvary Armor (*/**** with Ma Chao): Increases Mounted Defense.
Comments: Ma Chao + Horned Helm + Calvary Armor + Storm/Shadow Runner = Good
stuff.

Seven Star Sash (*): Increases Luck.
Comments: It seems that items you receive in battle are determined more by
random luck rather than luck itself. The jury is still out on whether or not
this item actually does anything.

Elixir (***): Musou gauge fills faster.
Comments: A good item in conjunction with the Way of Musou item.

Herbal Remedy (***): Increases Charge Attack effectiveness.
Comments: The usefulness of this item depends on how often you use charge
attacks. I would recommend using the Charge Bracer instead if you have it.

Art of War (*)
Effect: Increases the duration of power up items.
Stage Found: Campaign against Sun Jian (Dong Zhou\'s forces)
Requirements: Defeat Lu Meng, Zhou Tai, and either Sun Shang Xiang or Gan
Ning within 10 minutes. Then enter the castle to trigger the \"empty castle
event\". A supply team will appear from the entry point at the north castle
and move towards the southern castle entry point. Defeat the supply team for
the item.
Comments: Not very useful.

Survival Guide (*)
Effect: When life is critical, Attack x2 when knocked down.
Stage Found: The Two Qiaos
Requirements: Rescue in order Da Qiao and Xiao Qiao. The item will appear
when the two are reunited.
Comments: Not very useful.

Bodyguard Manual (***)
Effect: Bodyguards become stronger.
Stage Found: Guan Yu\'s Escape (Liu Bei\'s forces)
Requirements: Have Guan Yu encounter Xiahou Dun after passing the fifth gate
for the item to appear. Note that this is much easier if you are playing as
Guan Yu.
Comments: This is a great item for bodyguards in training, as it will
significantly extend their life expectancy. For elite bodyguards it makes
them practically godlike.

Way of Musou (***)
Effect: Can use True Musou attacks regardless of life.
Stage Found: Guan Yu\'s Escape (Cao Cao\'s forces)
Requirements: After you pass the 5th gate a supply team will appear east of
the bridge in front of the fourth gate and head eastward. Defeat the supply
team for the item.
Comments: In conjunction with the Elixir this can be useful. For some reason
True Musou attacks don\'t seem to be as effective this time around.

Power Scroll (*)
Effect: Won\'t lose weapon deadlocks.
Stage Found: The Yellow Turban Fortress (Yellow Turban forces)
Requirements: Defeat Guan Yu and Zhao Yun. A supply team will appear to the
northwest and move to the northeast entry point. Defeat the supply team for
the item. Zhang Bao and Zhang Liang must survive.
Comments: Limited usefulness.

Wind Scroll (****)
Effect: Increases attack reach.
Stage Found: Battle of Xu Chang (Shu forces)
Requirements: Protect Yue Ying until she sets up the ramp vehicle, and defeat
Xu Zhu when he ambushes the supply camp in the southwest. When Sima Yi
remarks on the two plans failing the item will appear in the northwest.
Comments: This significantly increases the range of your weapon. It\'s
extremely useful for characters that have very little range. For characters
with an already long-range weapon it makes them into absolute monsters.

Fire Arrows (*/**** with Huang Zhong or Xiahou Yuan)
Effect: Arrows become fire arrows.
Stage Found: Unification of Jing (Wu forces)
Requirements: Before the enemy generals join forces, defeat Wang Lang for the
supply team to appear at the west castle. Defeat the supply team for the
item.
Comments: Fun to play with but ultimately not very useful, unless you\'re
playing as Huang Zhong or Xiahou Yuan. This item upgrades their Charge
attacks to fire arrows.

Charge Bracer (***)
Effect: Charge attacks cannot be stopped by normal attacks.
Stage Found: Campaign against Sun Jian (Yuan Shao\'s forces)
Requirements: Enter the north castle before enemy reinforcements arrive. A
supply team will appear south of the castle and move towards the entry point
southwest of the castle.
Comments: If you use Charge Attacks frequently this is an excellent item.

#B.G. POINTS#
#############

B.G. Points are gained depending on the number of enemies defeated by your
bodyguards, and the current health and number of bodyguards that you end the
stage with.

{Score}              {B.G. Points}
Bodyguard K.O.\'s # of K.O.s x 10
Bonus (Full Life) # of B.G. x 30
Bonus (Remaining) # of B.G. x 40

At the end of the stage assuming that you have eight bodyguards remaining at
full life you will get a maximum base bonus of 560 not counting B.G. KOs.
This means in order to gain levels after 13 bodyguards will need to defeat a
minimum number of enemies. Assuming that you have all eight bodyguards at
full life the minimum number of KOs is as follows:

[Level] [Minimum B.G. KOs]
14-15 4
16-17 9
18-19 14
20 19

The best stage for getting large amounts of B.G. KOs is The Yellow Turban
Menace. Simply set your bodyguard commands to Attack and let your bodyguards
rack up the KOs.

#BODYGUARD FAQS#
################

Q. How to I get my bodyguards to follow me? They keep wandering off!
A. Bodyguards tend to follow you closely, unless you are on horseback. Then
they tend to get left behind fairly quickly. Unlike previous Dynasty Warrior
games bodyguards do not magically appear at your location when you leave them
far behind. They will attempt to follow you on foot, but they will
occasionally become stuck behind obstacles on the map. Cycling through the
bodyguard commands may help them to become unstuck, but this doesn\'t always
work.

Q: How do I get my bodyguards to attack? I set their command to attack but
they just sit there!
A: Sometimes you will need to move around a bit to get your bodyguards to
attack nearby enemies. Actually this is a misnomer, as bodyguards prefer to
attack enemies that are far away rather than ones that are right next to you
(And attacking you no less! Some bodyguards...). They also tend to attack
single targets en masse instead of multiple targets. There isn\'t anything you
can do about it. It\'s just some quirky bodyguard A.I.

Q: How do I get bodyguard weapons?
A: Gain B.G. Points. See the above section on Class.

Q: My bodyguards stopped gaining levels at 9999 points! What gives?
A: Bodyguards need to gain a minimum number of B.G. Points in a _single_
stage to gain levels. See the above section on Levels.

#CHARACTER BODYGUARDS#
######################

The following information was provided by Kidd.

Depending on your relationship with other characters, it is possible for a
playable character to appear as a bodyguard for your character. When this
happens the character will appear with morale of 6 and follow you around like
a normal bodyguard. If you have a full Musou gauge and are near the bodyguard
character you can perform a double Musou attack as if you were with a second
player.

Character bodyguards can appear in both Musou and Free mode. There are
certain requirements for having a character appear as a bodyguard.

1. The most important factor in getting a character bodyguard is that the
character has a high degree of friendship with your character. For example,
Zhao Yun will most likely appear if you are playing as Liu Bei, while Guan Yu
will most likely appear if your are either Liu Bei or Zhang Fei.

2. The character will only appear if they were not initially present in the
stage.

3. Your army\'s morale must be at less than half.

4. Your Life must be at less than half.

5. Your army has 9 or fewer officers.

6. A certain amount of time must have passed (15-20 minutes).

If all of these requirements are met and a character bodyguard does not
appear, then it usually means that your character does not have a high enough
relationship with another character for them to appear as a bodyguard.

How does one increase the degree of relationship between characters? The best
way is to help characters that are \"struggling\". You can tell if you\'ve
helped them or not if they make a remark when you approach them.

How does one decrease the degree of relationship between characters? The
easiest way is to defeat them in duels. The relationship between characters
does save between stages. For example, if you play Free Mode and repeatedly
defeat a Shu character with another Shu character, it is highly unlikely that
the character you defeated will appear to help you when you play in Musou
Mode.

9. STRATEGY
O------------O

[ITEMS]

- Gate Captains always drop Meat Buns when defeated. Remember that when
you\'re low on life. Gate Captains will also reappear on some stages, so you
can use them for a quick life boost.

- Defeating a group of archers will usually result in one of them dropping
arrows. James Mills writes in to mention that defeating First Bow and First
Crossbow enemies is what causes arrows to drop.

- Boxes usually contain temporary power up items or arrows. Jars will usually
have life restoring items (or be empty). Dim Sum and Musou Wine are only
found in jars.

[CHARGE ATTACKS]

- Charge attacks involving projectiles increase in power and effect when a
higher level orb is equipped. The Musou gauge must be at maximum for this to
take effect.

- Projectile Charge attacks are best used from a distance. These will usually
knock a general directly to the ground if it connects. Note that allies will
block projectile attacks if they are in the way. The type of Orb equipped
determines the elemental type of the projectile.

- Grab Charge attacks are unblockable. Usually the enemy will hit you out of
the move (unless you have the Charge Bracer item). If the enemy is busy
blocking an attack from an ally or bodyguard, you can nail them every time
while they are in block stun animation.

- Aerial Charge attacks are good counters to regular Charge attacks. The
enemy usually counters your own Charge attacks with aerial Charge attacks.

[DUELS]

- You can refuse a duel by simply pressing the start button if you want to
speed things up.

- Refusing a duel always decreases morale. Drawing a duel decreases morale if
your character has more than 18000 points. Winning a duel obviously increases
morale.

- To get past a tight defense you can try to slightly circle around the enemy
at close range and try to hit them around their guard. This works better for
fast characters.

- If you try to use a Charge attack from a distance, the enemy will counter
with an aerial Charge attack.

- If the enemy uses counters frequently they will usually do so for the
entire duel. Switch to defense and use counters to counter this.

- Charge grab moves (such as Lu Bu\'s) will nail you if you attempt to counter
at the exact same time. When you see the Charge animation, wait a split
second then perform the counter.

[BODYGUARDS]

- Bodyguards are excellent for distracting enemy generals. While they are
occupied blocking their attacks, sneak around to the rear and strike from
behind.

[HARNESSES]

- Because Harnesses do not take up an additional item slot, there is no
excuse not to have one. Having a mount makes a big difference in some of the
larger stages. Horses are essential for extremely slow characters (Xu Zhu,
Dian Wei, and Meng Huo in particular).

[ORBS]

- Orb elemental attacks will only activate if the Musou gauge is at maximum.

- Fire Orbs set enemies on fire, dealing additional burn damage.

- Lightning Orbs affect a large area, striking multiple enemies.

- Ice Orbs not only freeze enemies, but increases they damage they receive.

- Blast Orbs deal damage even when blocked.

- Vorpal Orbs only have a percentage chance of instantly killing enemies,
even at level 4.

- Poison Orbs cause enemies to receive more damage from attacks.

[SPECIAL ITEMS]

- The Tiger Amulet and Tortoise Amulet are useful regardless of character.

- The Wind Scroll makes a huge difference in weapon range. Even characters
with long weapons can benefit from this item.

[MISCELLANEOUS]

- Everyone knows that you can use the L2 Button to display the life gauges of
enemy soldiers. But what most people don\'t know is that you can also use it
to locate enemies in areas where visibility is poor due to rain, darkness,
etc. This is especially helpful in the bamboo forest at Cheng Du. This can
also be used to differentiate between friendly and enemy units that appear
similar (for example, if you\'re using Nanman bodyguards during the Nanman
stage). Thanks to go Julie-Su for providing this helpful tip.

-------------------------
Shu - Act I
The Oath in the Garden
-------------------------

[The Yellow Turban Menace] (Han Forces)
Difficulty: *
Bonus: Defeating Zhang Liang here will prevent him from appearing later at
the final act.

Your first task is to defeat the Yellow Turban generals guarding the castle
gates. Cao Cao will be assaulting the west gate and Sun Jian the east gate.
Since you\'re the volunteer (Shu) forces, you can choose to assist anyone you
want. Because you start near Cao Cao, you might as well attack either Deng
Mao at the west gate, or Gao Sheng at the south gate. Defeating either of
them will open their respective gate. A short time later Zhang Liang will
summon a rainstorm inside of the castle. Huangfu Song will be nonplussed and
start attacking, only to be ambushed by He Yi near the waterway. Go ahead and
bail him out. From here you can go directly north to Zhang Liang or head to
the east gate and help Sun Jian clear out the enemies there. Yan Zheng will
appear north of the castle to spring an ambush, but at this point most of the
Yellow Turban generals should have been dealt with already. When you approach
Zhang Liang he will activate the water geysers in the area. While these will
damage you if you\'re too close, they will also damage enemies as well, so you
can lure the Yellow Turbans into their own geysers (he he he). Near the
entrance to the geyser area are two ramps to the left and right leading down
to a lower area with a single pot. The left area contains a Dim Sum (Life Up
+10) and the right area contains a Musou Wine (Musou Up +10). This is a
convenient stage to build up your Life and Musou gauges since these items are
so close to the main general. If you defeat all of the Yellow Turban generals
on the map (including sub generals), Zhang Liang will withdraw from battle.
Defeating him now will prevent him from appearing in the final stage of this
act.

[The Yellow Turban Fortress] (Han Forces)
Difficulty: *
Bonus: Defeating Zhang Bao here will prevent him from appearing later in the
final act.

Sun Jian will begin the assault from the west route and Cao Cao will approach
from the east route. Once again the volunteer forces (Shu) can choose either
route, but since they start near Cao Cao they might as well take the east
route. Engage He Yi nearby and be sure to get the Musou Wine in the pot at
the start of the circular path. Once you start down the circular path the
Yellow Turbans will cause the wind to blow, pushing everyone back. As Cao Cao
mentions the only way to make any progress is to run against the wind. Once
you reach the other side of the circular path you will see three large
windmill devices. Running into the blades will damage you. You can destroy
them by striking them from behind. This may be a bit difficult, as there are
several groups of archers in the vicinity. Once all three devices are
destroyed the wind will stop blowing. Defeat Pei Yuan Shao and proceed onward
to the fortress.

If for some reason you decide to take the west route, follow Sun Jian\'s
forces and defeat Bo Zhang to open the fort gate. When you enter the fort
phantom ghosts will appear to attack. These ghosts cannot be hit, but they
can hit you. As Sun Jian suggests there is a way to break this spell. Maybe
by breaking that enormous glowing cauldron perhaps? The first one is easy to
spot since it\'s near the fort\'s south entrance. Take out Zhou Cang while
you\'re at it. The second cauldron is a bit trickier to find. It is located in
the southeast corner of the fort. Once both cauldrons are destroyed the
phantom ghosts will disappear. Be sure to grab the Dim Sum in the pot located
in the southwest corner of the fort before you leave.

Cheng Yuanzhi is guarding the main entrance of the fort. Defeating him will
open the gates. If all of the Yellow Turban generals have been defeated
(including sub generals), Zhang Bao will withdraw from the battle. Defeating
him now will prevent him from appearing in the final stage of this act.

[The Yellow Turban Rebellion] (Han Forces)
Difficulty: *

If you had defeated Zhang Liang and Zhang Bao previously they will not appear
in this stage. Otherwise, Zhang Bao will appear in the west area and Zhang
Liang will appear in the east area. Sun Jian will attack Zhang Bao and Cao
Cao will attack Zhang Liang. Volunteer forces (yep, that\'s you) can go either
way. Zhang Liang has a nastier trick up his sleeve than his brother, but it\'s
up to you on which route you take.

When you enter the fort where Zhang Bao is, he will activate the flame
geysers in the area. If you take care to avoid standing near them they
shouldn\'t be much of a problem. Incredibly he will often walk over his own
geysers trying to get at you, so use that to your advantage. Defeating Zhang
Bao will stop the geysers from erupting.

Zhang Liang\'s trick is much more dangerous. When you enter his area he will
cause rocks to come rolling down in the area. Unlike the rocks in the
previous games, these rocks will come at you from all directions, are very
difficult to avoid, and will do serious damage to characters that don\'t have
much in the way of defense yet. Fortunately, they will break apart on the
first person they hit, and they aren\'t particularly choosy on whether they
hit you or an enemy. If you\'re feeling skillful you can actually use the
enemies here to block rock attacks. The rocks will stop appearing when Zhang
Liang is defeated. A few rocks may still be bouncing around in craters so be
mindful of rogue rocks roaming about. In the northeast corner of this area by
the gate captain are three pots, one of which contains Musou Wine. Be sure to
snag it before heading to the next area.

Once both of the Zhang brothers are gone the way will be clear to Zhang Jiao.
If neither brother appeared, then you didn\'t have to worry about flame
geysers, or angry rocks, or other crap like that. However, if this is the
case Zhang Jiao will have one last surprise for you. On the way up the hill
towards his position he will send flaming exploding rocks at you. I can\'t
decide whether or not this is incredibly desperate or incredibly lame.
Anyway, once you make you way up the hill take a short detour to the
northeast corner of the area where a box and two pots are. One of the pots
contains a Dim Sum. From there head over to Zhang Jiao and take him down. If
all of the Yellow Turban generals (including sub generals) are defeated,
Zhang Jiao will withdraw.

----------------------------
Shu - Tales
Return of the Yellow Turbans
----------------------------

Requirements: Clear Shu Musou Mode once. In Act I, select The Yellow Turban
Rebellion first.

[Eliminate Zhang Jiao!] (Liu Bei\'s Forces)
Difficulty: *

At the start of the battle Liu Bei will instruct Guan Yu and Zhang Fei to
secure the southwest fort. Go ahead and help them take the fort by defeating
He Yi and Bo Zhang. Do this post haste, as Zhang Lu\'s forces will be here
very soon. When both generals are defeated the fort gates will close. Make
sure you\'re beyond the south gate when this happens. A few moments later
Zhang Lu will arrive with his forces (gray blue uniforms). The goal here is
to eliminate all of Zhang Lu\'s forces before he reaches the top where Zhang
Jiao is. If you try to head towards where Zhang Jiao is, strong winds will
prevent your passage and will eat up precious time. Don\'t bother trying to
kill Zhang Lu. He\'s just an illusion and will just reappear over and over
until all of his forces are defeated. Concentrate on annihilating his forces.
If Zhang Lu does reach Zhang Jiao, the two of them will cast a spell that
will turn your entire army against you and Liu Bei (including Guan Yu and
Zhang Fei). Needless to say, you do not want this to happen. Eliminating all
of Zhang Lu\'s forces will cause the real Zhang Lu to appear. Go ahead and
kill him.

When the real Zhang Lu is defeated, Zhang Jiao will cast a spell that will
turn Liu Bei\'s forces against him. Fortunately, this weakened version does
not affect Guan Yu and Zhang Fei. Head up towards where Zhang Jiao is, taking
out Pei Yuan Shao along the way. When you get to the top destroy all three
glowing cauldrons like Liu Bei suggests. Doing so will break the spell. Note
that this has no effect if both Zhang Lu and Zhang Jiao cast the stronger
version of the spell. Once that is taken care of, go ahead and finish off
Zhang Jiao for the last time.

------------------------------
Shu - Act II
The Alliance against Dong Zhuo
------------------------------

[Battle of Si Shui Gate] (Allied Forces)
Difficulty: **
Bonuses: Claiming the supply depot here will improve morale for Sun Jian in
the next act. Defeating Hua Xiong here will prevent him from ambushing you in
the next act.

As you might have guessed from the opening movie (or if you\'ve read the
novel) Yuan Shu will not assist Sun Jian with provisions. Sun Jian will camp
out in front of the gate and request provisions from Yuan Shu. At this point
you have a limited amount of time to get supplies for him. Fortunately, there
is a supply depot nearby. You have a limited time to reach the depot before
the lack of supplies demoralizes Sun Jian and forces him to withdraw. This
will affect his actions later at Hu Lao Gate. Quickly dispatch Guo Si and Li
Ru and make your way to the back road behind the supply depot (Yuan Shao will
make a remark about it). Defeat Fan Chou and the supply depot will be
commandeered. Be sure to get the Dim Sum located in the southwest corner of
the depot before you leave.

If you do not liberate the supplies for Sun Jian, eventually Hua Xiong will
come out of Si Shui Gate to attack Sun Jian. Yuan Shao will ask if there is
anyone that can defeat Hua Xiong (note that this will not happen if you
obtained the supplies at the depot). Go ahead and defeat him for a cut scene
where your character announces that they defeated Hua Xiong. Note that this
scene is necessary to unlock a secret stage in the next act. From here you
can proceed into Si Shui Gate or help out Cao Cao engage Niou Fu, Li Su, and
Gao Shun in the southeast. Note that there is a second route past Si Shui
Gate to the south. Behind the wall at the start of the path is a Musou Wine.
While characters with low jumping height can go over the wall by using the
box as a step they will not be able to return over it.

Once inside of Si Shui Gate, Zhang Liao will appear to reinforce Li Jue (if
you went in via the front gate). If all of Dong Zhuo\'s generals are defeated
(including sub generals) Li Jue will withdraw.

[Battle of Hu Lao Gate] (Allied Forces)
Difficulty: **

If you had defeated either Zhang Liao or Li Jue at Si Shui Gate they will not
appear here. If you skipped the Battle of Si Shui Gate, then Hua Xiong will
appear to ambush Yuan Shao\'s camp. Liu Bei, Cao Cao, and Sun Jian will start
in their own areas and must defeat the generals guarding the nearby gates. If
you raided the supply depot before Sun Jian ran out of provisions at Si Shui
gate, he will attack normally here. Otherwise, he will hold back his forces.

Proceed to the nearby gate and defeat the generals to open the gate. From
here you can head directly to Hu Lao Gate or help the other forces out by
defeating the enemy gate generals. Note that approaching the gate from the
other side here will open it automatically. When the allies break through the
gates a ram vehicle will appear and start bashing down Hu Lao Gate. Move to
the gate and defeat both gate captains nearby. The gate should come down
shortly. Follow the vehicle inside.

You knew that Lu Bu was going to make an appearance here sooner or later. He
will always challenge you to a duel when he appears. Note that it will be
very difficult to defeat him in this duel, but it _is_ possible. You can
either attempt to defeat him, which as you might expect isn\'t going to be a
cakewalk. Or you can run like hell and let your allies do the fighting.
Either way, note that there is a Dim Sum on top of the south half of Hu Lao
Gate and a Musou Wine on the north half.

Further inside you will find Diao Chan guarding the inner gate to the
capitol. Defeating her will open the gates. Once inside Dong Zhuo will order
the capitol to be burned, which will cause Yuan Shao to order an all out
attack. At this point if you\'ve defeated all of the enemy generals (in
particular Lu Bu), Dong Zhuo will retreat. If not then he will stay to fight,
but he will retreat if his life becomes low. Note that whether or not Lu Bu
or Dong Zhuo is defeated here determines which secret stages you can unlock
later.

----------------
Shu - Tales
Guan Yu\'s Escape
----------------

Requirements: At the Battle of Si Shui Gate, do not enter the supply depot
until Yuan Shao asks \"Is there no one who can defeat Hua Xiong?\" Defeat Hua
Xiong. At the Battle of Hu Lao Gate defeat Lu Bu and Diao Chan, and let Dong
Zhuo escape. Josh \"Doofdork\" JeNiro writes in to say that defeating Lu Bu
doesn\'t appear to be a requirement, as he\'s unlocked this stage without
defeating Lu Bu. It seems that getting Dong Zhuo to escape is the only
requirement.

[Guan Yu\'s Escape] (Liu Bei\'s Forces)
Difficulty: **

If you\'re playing as Guan Yu this can be a difficult stage, since the
carriage this time _can_ be destroyed. You\'ll need to stay close to the
carriage at all times lest the enemies concentrate on taking it out. If
you\'re another character Guan Yu will help you out, but you can\'t afford to
get careless since he can\'t be everywhere at once. For the most part this
stage is pretty straightforward. Escort the carriage and protect it from
harm, take out the enemy generals guarding the gates, and proceed to the next
gate. When you get past the third gate Xiahou Dun will appear from the
starting position and proceed to pursue you. When you get past the fourth
gate the gates will close and an ambush will appear. Stay close to the
carriage and take out everyone that gets near. When the enemies are dealt
with Wang Zhi will run for his life. Take him out if you wish, but remember
that you are on escort duty. The ambush should buy Xiahou Dun enough time to
reach you by the fifth gate. Take him out if you wish, but remember that the
stage will end instantly when both the carriage and Guan Yu reach the river.

-----------------
Shu - Tales
Heroes of the Han
-----------------

Requirements: Clear Shu\'s Musou Mode once. Select Battle of Hu Lao Gate
first, do not defeat Lu Bu, and defeat Dong Zhuo. Bill (wmwhorton) writes in
to mention that Dong Zhou can retreat and you can still get this stage.

[Battle of Ru Nan]

If you\'re playing as Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, or Zhao Yun, you\'ll need to meet up
with Liu Bei as soon as possible. Otherwise you\'ll start out right next to
Liu Bei. Proceed to the castle, clearing out the enemies and generals along
the way. Xiahou Yuan should show up behind you, but at this point he\'s not
very strong so you shouldn\'t have any problems with him. Zhao Yun should show
up to assist Liu Bei (that is if you\'re not playing him). Head for the castle
to rendezvous with Zhang Fei. Xiahou Dun should appear to the north. Engage
the generals in the castle, who at this point should be Xu Zhu and Yu Jin,
and maybe Yue Jin. Zhang He should be by the west gate. Defeating him brings
Guan Yu into the fray from the west. Once all the Shu generals are here you
should have no problem clearing out the remaining Wei forces. From there it\'s
a short jaunt to the north where Cao Cao is waiting.

---------------------
Shu - Act III
The Flight of Liu Bei
---------------------

[Battle of Bo Wan Po] (Liu Bei\'s Forces)
Difficulty: ***
Bonus: Successfully executing all of Zhuge Liang\'s ploys here will weaken Cao
Cao\'s forces at Chang Ban.

This is a rather fun stage to play (the Wei version is another story) as
Zhuge Liang has a bunch of neat traps for the Wei forces to run into. At the
start head for Xiahou Dun until he starts chasing you, then lead him to the
center path that Zhuge Liang indicated. When the fire incinerates the Wei
troops go ahead and defeat Xiahou Dun. Next up is Han Hao. Lure him to the
ambush site on the upper path. When the trap springs take him out as well.
Last is Yu Jin. Go up to him and lure him to the ambush near the bridge. Once
this happens Zhuge Liang will order an all out attack on Cao Cao. Guan Yu
will appear as reinforcements. If you are successful with all three traps
Zhang Fei will appear in Cao Cao\'s supply depot and burn it down. From this
point all that\'s left is to engage the remaining generals in the castle. If
Zhuge Liang encounters Cao Cao he will make a remark about using Cao Cao\'s
ambition to help Liu Bei\'s cause.

[Battle of Chang Ban] (Liu Bei\'s Forces)
Difficulty: ***
Bonus: Finding Liu Chan here will cause Zhao Yun to appear as reinforcements
at Chi Bi.

Liu Bei moves much faster than he did in DW3, so he\'ll probably escape before
you can totally annihilate all of the Wei generals. The goal here is to clear
a path for Liu Bei so that he can escape to Wu. There are three routes you
can take here that lead to the escape point to the south. The left route has
Xiahou De and Xiahou Yuan. The center route has Zhu Ling and Xu Huang. The
right route has Xiahou Dun and Zhang He. Since a special event can occur if
you take the right route it\'s probably the easiest, so we\'ll take this route
for the walkthrough.

Right off the bat Xiahou Dun will come charging in. If you defeated him in
the previous act he will most likely challenge you to a duel. Take him out
and start clearing a path south. Zhang He should be near the Chang Ban
Bridge. Defeating him will clear a path for Zhang Fei to do his famous yell
scene where he will hold back the Wei army. Cao Cao\'s main force should
appear to the northwest. Around this time you should get a message that Liu
Chan has appeared. Note that rescuing Liu Chan does not get you anything
except a warm fuzzy feeling (and 60 seconds of unlimited Musou). And a cool
scene if you rescue him while on horseback. If you decide to rescue him, be
aware that hundreds on enemies will converge on you the moment you enter the
fort where he is. So unless you feel like recreating Zhao Yun\'s famous scene
I would recommend ignoring him unless you have a built up character. Note
that when Liu Bei tells you to destroy the bridges to delay pursuit, he\'s
referring to the two southern bridges near the central fort. Just cross over
them from the north and they will be destroyed.

When Liu Bei reaches the south part of the area Liu Qi\'s ships will arrive,
along with Guan Yu and Guan Ping. Continue clearing a path for Liu Bei by
defeating Jia Kui and Yu Jin, and eventually he should reach the escape point
safe and sound.

[Battle of Chi Bi] (Liu Bei\'s Forces)
Difficulty: ***

From the start of the battle you should head immediately to the northwest
corner of the map. Halfway there Pang Tong should announce that he\'s \"off to
work\". If you have a fast horse ignore the enemies and make a break for his
location. Otherwise, you\'re going to have to do some serious footwork to make
it up there in time. If you\'re too slow then Pang Tong will say something
about their defense being too tight and will withdraw. If this happens you
can still make the fire attack work by going to plan B (skip to the next
paragraph). When you do reach Pang Tong he\'ll tell you you\'ll need to take
care of Xu Shu (one of Cao Pi\'s sub generals) before he gets suspicious. Go
ahead and eliminate him. Don\'t worry about Pang Tong. Even though he\'s your
allied color the enemies there won\'t mess with him. Once Xu Shu is gone head
immediately for Zhuge Liang\'s position. You\'ll know Pang Tong\'s plot is
successful when he says that the boats should be secure now. Julie-Su writes
in to mention that you don\'t even have to meet with Pang Tong. Just eliminate
Xu Shu right off the bat and you don\'t have to worry about the plot failing.

Li Dian is nearby, but ignore him for now and head to Zhuge Liang\'s altar
post haste. Yue Jin will launch an ambush and will quickly defeat Zhuge Liang
unless you immediately help him. Once Yue Jin is dealt with stick around and
clear out the entire area around the altar of enemies. After that\'s done head
for Li Dian and take care of him. It will take some time for Zhuge Liang to
get the wind to blow, so it\'s best to secure the area around him so you don\'t
have to worry about his safety.

When the altar area is secured head for the center bridge where Cao Ren is.
Defeat him and clear the center bridge of all enemies. This is important
because Huang Gai will appear on the bridge area later and his safety is
necessary for the fire attack to proceed. You should get a message that Huang
Gai has begun preparations for the attack. His boat will dock near the right
side of the bridge where a staircase juts out but doesn\'t go anywhere. Once
the bridge area is secure you can go ahead and take out any nearby enemies,
but make sure to head back to the bridge area when you get the message that
Huang Gai is about to arrive. If any enemies arrive on the bridge take care
of them. Once Huang Gai arrives on the bridge he will start walking around
with some bombardiers. A short time later the fire attack should commence. If
Pang Tong\'s plot was successful the ship should be chained together, which
will result in Cao Cao\'s forces taking severe losses. At his point the allied
forces will launch an all out attack. From this point you can clear out the
remaining Wei generals or head straight for Cao Cao.

Shu - Act IV
The Three Kingdoms
------------------

[Battle of Luo Castle] (Liu Bei\'s Forces)
Difficulty: ****
Bonus: If Pang Tong survives the battle, he will arrive as reinforcements
during the Campaign for Jing.

From the start of the battle Pang Tong will run into trouble and will quickly
die unless you help him out immediately. It\'s very difficult to save him
unless you are riding a fast horse. Once Pang Tong is safe, continue heading
for the castle. Yang Huai and Gao Pei will ambush Liu Bei while you are away,
so you\'ll probably have to backtrack to take care of them. Eventually Zhuge
Liang will arrive with reinforcements. Pang Tong will mention something about
trying to capture Zhang Ren and will start taunting him. Zhang Ren will open
the castle gates and immediately attack. If Pang Tong manages to lure him
south across the bridge an ambush will commence and defeating him. Once he\'s
dealt with take out the remaining generals outside before dealing with Liu
Zhang.

[The Campaign for Jing] (Liu Bei\'s Forces)
Difficulty: ****
Clearing this battle will prevent Yang Huai and Gao Pei from appearing as
reinforcements in the final act.

Xing Daorong should appear to ambush you from the start, but he\'s little more
than a speed bump. When he\'s been smashed help Zhang Fei and Zhao Yun
eliminate Liu Du. Once the fort is clear you can either choose to take on Jin
Xuan to the west or Zhao Fan to the north. Guan Yu should arrive at around
this time to help out. It doesn\'t matter which one you choose, but as you
head for their positions Xiahou Yuan and Cao Ren will launch a surprise
attack on Zhuge Liang. Zhuge Liang will tell everyone to turn back and help
him, since he can\'t really defend himself with that silly fan of his. Go
ahead and do so, if only because if he gets killed you lose the battle. Once
you\'ve saved his sorry butt, go ahead and clear out Jin Xuan and Zhao Fan\'s
forts. Zhao Fan will come to his senses and retreat once his sub generals are
killed. Once all three outer forts are secure, it\'s time to take on Han Xuan.
Note that when you approach the castle gates both Huang Zhong and Wei Yan
will engage you together. Huang Zhong is pretty tough by himself, but
together with the spasmodic Wei Yan he\'s downright nasty. Having archers in
the area isn\'t helping matters any. Run away and try to attack them one at a
time outside the gate. If you try to take them both on you will get
sandwiched by their attacks. Once they\'re both defeated Han Xuan should not
pose any problems.

There is another way to take the castle, and it\'s much easier that the method
that I listed above. First defeat all of the generals and sub generals
outside of the castle. This should cause Huang Zhong to charge out from the
castle. Do not defeat Wei Yan. Defeat Huang Zhong and there should be an
event where Han Xuan is about to execute him for failure. Wei Yan will kill
Han Xuan and both of them will join your forces. Note that this _instantly_
wins the battle. Thanks go to Douglas Yee for pointing this out to me.

[Campaign of Cheng Du] (Liu Bei\'s Forces)
Difficulty: ****

Getting Zhang Liu to surrender is necessary to obtain Shu\'s fourth ending,
but most people will usually get the third ending instead because the
requirements for the surrender are a bit counter intuitive here. I had to
play this stage over a dozen times to figure out how to do it. While I\'m not
sure as to the exact requirements for his surrender, I\'ve managed to figure
out a fail-safe method to do it. This method works best if the difficulty is
set to easy so your allies wont advance too far and spoil everything. The
trick for getting Zhang Liu to surrender is (A) You must capture Li Yan, (B)
do not approach Liu Xun until all the other generals are dealt with, and (C)
when the enemy reinforcements arrive do not defeat Ma Chao until all the
other generals are defeated. Note that part B is important, as if your own
allies reach Liu Xun prematurely enemy reinforcements will appear and spoil
everything.

When the battle starts do not engage Li Yan until Zhuge Liang tells you that
the ambush area is set up. Go to Li Yan and get him to chase you. He will
immediately challenge you to a duel, but if you want to get Zhang Liu to
surrender you must decline (press start). Lure Li Yan to the ambush site.
When Guan Ping appears turn around and defeat him. You should get the message
that Li Yan was captured.

Next comes the tricky part. You will need to go into the forest area and
eliminate all of Liu Xun\'s sub generals. There should be four in all. Head
north from the ambush site and move through the forest in a reverse Z
pattern. You\'ll know you\'re on the right track when Yan Yan is the fourth
general you encounter. Do NOT go near Liu Xun or you will trigger
reinforcements, which will cause the castle gates to open and Liu Zhang to
show up. If he ever shows up he will never surrender so keep that in mind.
When all of Liu Xun\'s sub generals are defeated go back the way you came to
Liu Bei\'s position, then head south to engage Liu Han and Deng Xian\'s sub
generals. You should encounter Deng Xian along the way. Go ahead and defeat
him. When they\'ve been dealt with go and take Liu Han out. Defeat the gate
captains guarding the nearby gates to open them so you have a way to move
back and forth. Once all of the officers save Liu Xun are defeated you should
get a message saying that Liu Zhang is considering surrender. If you don\'t
get the message chances are you did something wrong and will have to start
over. If you do get the message you may want to save your game just in case.

Make your way to Liu Xun to fight him. Moving towards his position will
trigger enemy reinforcements (Ma Chao, or Pang De if you previously unlocked
Ma Chao, along with Ma Dai, Yang Huai, and Gao Pei back at Liu Bei\'s castle).
DO NOT DEFEAT MA CHAO/PANG DE UNTIL ALL OTHER GENERALS ARE DEFEATED. If Ma
Chao/Pang De challenges you to a duel ignore him. Head back to Liu Bei and
take out Yang Huai near the south entrance of the castle and Ma Dai near the
east entrance. If Gao Pei defeated the south stronghold captain (which he
should) he should be arriving shortly by the south gate. Once all of the
other generals are taken care of, go ahead and defeat Ma Chao/Pang De. If you
did everything I mentioned you should get a message saying that Liu Zhang
will surrender. As long as Liu Zhang does not appear in any point of the
battle things should be okay.

Josh \"Doofdork\" JeNiro writes in with an alternate approach. After capturing
Yi Lan head south and fight Liu Han and Deng Xian first instead of Liu Xun\'s
sub generals. The reason for this is to prevent Liu Bei\'s troops from
engaging Liu Xun early, which in turn triggers the reinforcements
prematurely. When the south is cleared head back and defeat Liu Xun\'s sub
generals. From there you can defeat Liu Xun and the other reinforcements
before dealing with Ma Chao/Pang De.

-------------------
Shu - Tales
The Fury of Ma Chao
-------------------

Requirements: Select Campaign of Cheng Du first. If Ma Chao is not unlocked
yet, defeat him when he arrives as reinforcements. If Ma Chao is unlocked,
defeat Pang De when he arrives as reinforcements.

[Battle of Tong Gate] (Liu Bei\'s Forces)
Difficulty: ****

This battle is pretty much straightforward. Exit the gate and take out Xiahou
Yuan, Dian Wei, and Cao Hong as they approach. Cao Ren guards the gate of the
nearby ice castle. Xu Huang and Cao Cao will lay a bridge across the river
and try to sneak in from the north. Han Sui will appear to defect, but as
long as his morale is high he won\'t. Some horses will appear in an event,
which will end up lowering your morale. How this happens exactly I\'m not
certain, but it won\'t have much of an impact in the battle. Just go ahead and
have fun with this one. You can find a Musou Wine in the crossable shallow
river north of Ma Chao\'s position, and a Dim Sum in the northwest area near
the north entry point.

---------------
Shu - Act V
The fall of Wei
---------------

In Act III, if the fire attack at the Battle of Chi Bi is successful, this
will be the Shu scenario for Act V.

[Battle of Mt. Ding Jun] (Shu Forces)
Difficulty: ******

Don\'t bother trying to kill Xiahou Shang at the beginning. He has a lot of
life and there are quite a bit of crossbowmen in the area. Chances are if you
do chase him down and kill him you will be trapped in the Wei camp when the
gates close. Considering that there are dozens of crossbowmen in the area and
a few hundred guards it\'s not going to be very pretty. While it is possible
to survive being isolated, I wouldn\'t recommend doing so unless you are
supremely confident in your skills (or are completely crazy). That being
said, Chen Shi should return safely to your side by the time Xiahou Shang
returns to his. Start heading east where Huang Zhong is fighting a one-man
battle against Xiahou De at the Mt. Ding Jun fort. Once Xiahou De is taken
care of Huang Zhong will charge the Wei camp and end up being isolated in the
middle path. Go ahead and help him out. Zhao Yun may or may not appear as
reinforcements, but I\'m not sure as to what triggers this. Zhang He will be
nearby, as will Xiahou Yuan. Defeating Xiahou Yuan will trigger Cao Cao\'s
arrival as well as an ambush from the east by Cao Zhang. Go back and deal
with that, then head back for the final push against the Wei camp. Defeating
Yang Xiu will open the south gate of the Wei camp for your allies. Once all
the other generals are defeated head up to Cao Cao\'s position and finish him
off.

[Battle of Jie Ting] (Shu Forces)
Difficulty: ******
Bonus: Saving Ma Su here will make Zhuge Liang\'s wooden ox appear in the
final act.

It\'s time once again to save Ma Su from certain destruction. In order to
rescue Ma Su you will need to eliminate all of the Wei generals that have
surrounded him on the mountainside. These include Xu Huang from the east,
Xiahou Yuan to the north, and Zhang He from the south. Note that when you
approach Zhang He he will set the gate on fire, but this doesn\'t really do
much except look pretty and prevent you from going through that gate. He will
only do this if all the other generals around Ma Su\'s camp have been
defeated. Once all three generals are defeated you can head for Sima Yi and
finish him off.

[Battle of Wu Zhang Plains] (Shu Forces)
Difficulty: ******

For this battle the opening strategy depends on your initial position. If you
start on the left head north and engage Cao Hong and Zhang He. If you begin
on the right head north and deal with Cao Pi and Zhen Ji. If you are in the
center you can pick either side, but I\'d recommend not going down the center
to where Xiahou Yuan is. You\'ll want to keep that area clear for an event
later in the battle.

If you went left, when you reach Zhang He\'s position he will order his men to
open fire on you with their crossbows. This will trigger an event where Zhuge
Liang will deploy his arbalests, which are basically large crossbows that
fire ten arrows at once. With the arbalest backup proceed to clear out the
enemies in the area. If you went right you\'ll deal with Zhen Ji, who will
more often than not challenge you to a duel. Further up an ambush party
including bombardiers lies in wait. In either case, when you approach Sima Yi
your character will begin taunting him, causing his morale to drop. Shortly
afterwards Zhuge Liang will apparently collapse and die, which will cause
Sima Yi to order a full out attack. The Shu forces will begin to withdraw,
but Wei Yan will ignore orders and keep on attacking. Don\'t worry about him.
Head back the way you came and continue fighting and clearing out the enemy.
When Sima Yi gets near the Shu camp he will discover that Zhuge Liang is very
much alive, and will hastily beat feet back to the Wei camp. Press your
advantage and take out Xiahou Yuan near the center.

When Sima Yi arrives back at the Wei camp Cao Cao should arrive. At this
point Cao Zhen and Cao Zhang will appear to the left and right of your camp
respectively in an ambush. Go ahead and take them both out. Once they are
both gone there will be no one left except for Sima Yi and Cao Cao. Head
north along with the rest of the Shu army and finish them both off.

Shu - Tales
Dong Zhuo lives!
----------------

Requirements: Clear less than 10 stages to this point. In Act II, at the
Battle of Hu Lao Gate defeat all generals and let Dong Zhuo escape. In Act V
select Battle of Wu Zhang Plains first.

[Battle of Han Zhong] (Shu Forces)
Difficulty: *****

This is a fairly difficult battle, as you will spend a good portion of it
alone against no less than 8 generals. To make matter worse you will need to
defend two forts from the enemy, and they have minimal defenses. If either
fort falls it\'s game over. The enemy will attack both forts simultaneously,
so you will need to be both swift and powerful to prevent the forts from
falling. Yue Ying and Ma Chao will eventually arrive as reinforcements, but
don\'t count on them being of much help.

--------------
Shu - Act V
The fall of Wu
--------------

In Act III, if the fire attack at the Battle of Chi Bi is unsuccessful, this
will be the Shu scenario for Act V.

[Battle of Fan Castle] (Shu Forces)
Difficulty: ******

Five against three? Rarely are the odds ever in your favor in a Dynasty
Warrior battle, and this one is no exception. Getting into the castle is
easy, as you only have to defeat a gate captain to open the gate. When you
enter the west gate Pang De will most likely intercept you. While you are
fighting him Jiang Qin will ambush your fort from behind. To make matters
worse, Mi Fang and Fu Shi Ren will defect shortly after. As if that wasn\'t
bad enough your troops will constantly defect throughout the entire battle
until both Mi Fang and Fu Shi Ren are killed. Head back immediately and kill
them both before your entire force turns against you. Don\'t rest easy after
they are dealt with, as Wu reinforcements consisting of Lu Meng, Lu Xun, and
Zhou Tai will appear to the west. Don\'t let them gang up on you and try to
take them out one at a time. Once they are defeated, Xu Huang will arrive
from the east to reinforce Cao Ren, but at this point he\'s not going to be
much trouble. Go back in Fan Castle and take out all the remaining generals,
then head up the cool looking castle tower and face Cao Ren in a climatic
battle.

[The Nanman Campaign] (Shu Forces)
Difficulty: ******
Bonus: Meng Huo will arrive as reinforcements in the final act if you defeat
him seven times.

This is arguably the most difficult battle in the entire game. If you have a
relatively inexperienced character there is no way you are going to win this
one. If the superhuman Nanman troops don\'t kill you with their overwhelming
numbers, they will most certainly kill Zhuge Liang. The key to this battle is
to kill as many enemies as quickly as possible. If you don\'t raise your
army\'s morale in this way, your morale will most likely stay in the red for
most of the battle. And considering that the enemy outnumbers you more than a
hundred to one this is not going to be pretty. Did I mention that you\'re
going to have to deal with elephants, poisonous water and climate fatigue
that will constantly lower your entire army\'s morale throughout the stage?
Sound fun? You bet! Let\'s begin!

First off go and eliminate Yong Kai as quickly as possible. Meng Huo will not
be far behind. Be careful of his Charge attack as it comes out rather quickly
and can easily catch you off guard. Once they are both dealt with circle
around to the east and engage Jinhuan Sanjie. Meng Huo will once again
appear. Take them both out again. If you defeated Yong Kai and Jinhuan Sanjie
quickly enough, Ahui Nan and Dong Tu Ne will both defect to your side. While
this sounds good, in reality they provide little help since they have few
soldiers with them. Just remember that their troops are dressed in green
instead of the Nanman Purple, so you don\'t waste your time trying to kill
them. Marco La Manno writes in to mention that defeating Yong Kai isn\'t
necessary to get the two to defect. Defeating Jinhuan Sanjie seems to trigger
the event.

Circle back to the east again and head down the path where Dong Tu Ne was
positioned. Meng Huo should appear again for the third time. Take him out and
proceed south. In case you\'re wondering, all of the water in this stage is
poisonous and walking in it will slowly drain your life away. Note that this
does not affect the Nanman troops. Heading south you should encounter
Elephant troops for the first time. Dismounting elephant riders with arrows
or jump attacks is much more difficult that it was in DW3 since they tend to
ride in circles rather than straight lines. If you do manage to get one to
ride, you can automatically smash through the barriers that block the gates
by simply riding into them. As you approach King Duosi, Meng Huo should
appear for the fourth time. Head back and take care of him. Yang Feng should
appear near King Duosi\'s position as enemy reinforcements. As you head
towards King Duosi Meng Huo should appear for the fifth time on an elephant.
This time he challenges you to a duel (note that winning this duel is
necessary to unlock him). When you hand his sorry butt back to him a fifth
time, Zhu Rong will become slightly irked by her husband\'s lack of success
and begin moving to attack. She will also challenge you as soon as you see
her. Defeating her will make Meng Huo appear yet again for a sixth time when
you head south. Try to lure him on to dry land as poisonous water and
elephants make a bad combination.

Once Meng Huo is defeated for a sixth time he will reappear one last time in
the Nanman base. From here you can either attack King Mulu on the left or Wu
Tugu on the right. Wu Tugu has special rattan armored troops with him, but
Zhuge Liang has a plan for that and will eventually launch fire arrows at
them in an event. Either way, make sure you constantly defeat enemies to keep
morale up, as the climate is going to constantly drain morale throughout the
battle. If Zhuge Liang is getting swarmed you will have to head back ASAP to
help him out. Hopefully by the time you get to the Nanman base you will still
have most of your army and morale will be high. If not, well, you\'re going to
be in for a long fight. There are more elephants wandering about inside so
try to take them on one at a time before dealing with the king himself.

[Battle of Yi Ling] (Shu Forces)
Difficulty: ******

At the start of the battle quickly engage Taishi Ci and Jiang Qin. The faster
you take them both out the better. Lu Meng guards the gate ahead and
defeating him opens it up. Ideally you will want to take them all out before
you get the message that Zhuge Liang wants security around the watchtower
tightened. When you get that message head immediately back to the location
indicated by the ping on the map when you receive that message. Having a
Harness helps out immensely here. When you arrive back at Shu camp, head to
the area above the entry point. If nothing happens you might need to wander a
bit around the area. Eventually Zhu Ran and two task leaders will appear.
Eliminate Zhu Ran immediately. When he\'s defeated go after the other two task
leaders. Once they are all defeated you should receive a message that the
fire attack has been prevented. If Zhu Ran or a task leader gets too far into
the Shu camp they will launch the fire attack.

If the fire attack is successful, Zhou Tai and the two Qiao sisters will
immediately appear to attack the Shu camp. Liu Bei will retreat into the
castle and the gates will close. Take out Zhou Tai and the two Qiaos before
they start heading into the stone maze. The stone maze (now called the stone
sentinel maze) is a bit different now that the walls open and close at random
(well actually there is a pattern). The good news is that this will slow down
the Wu forces considerably. The bad news is that it will affect you as well.
There is a glitch you can exploit here if you are on a horse. When a stone
statue is going up, you can ride over it if you are on a horse if you keep on
moving. Using this you can quickly make your way past the stone maze. When
you reach the other side Zhuge Liang will cause a walkway to appear to the
north, which the Shu forces will use to attack the Wu camp.

If the fire attack was prevented, you can proceed to the Wu camp. Take out
Ling Tong and cross the bridge to the Wu camp. When you reach the inner camp
Zhou Tai and the two Qiaos will launch a surprise attack all the way back at
the Shu camp (as if the fire attack was successful). Head back and deal with
them, then head all the way back to take on Lu Xun and Sun Jian. It should be
noted that if you had cleared the Nanman Campaign previously, Meng Huo will
arrive with reinforcements to help you.

Shu - Tales
Tian Shui\'s Prodigy
-------------------

Requirements: In Shu - Act III, select Battle of Chi Bi first and ensure that
the fire attack is _not_ successful.

[Battle of Tian Shui] (Shu Forces)
Difficulty: *****
Bonus: Getting Jiang Wei to surrender unlocks him as a playable character.

As Zhuge Liang instructs, do not attack either of the castles. Take out Wang
Liang, Xiahou De, and Xiahou Mao first. Once they are all defeated, Jiang Wei
will be admonished for not attacking you. Jiang Wei will then open his castle
gate and attack. Do not attack him or challenge him to a duel. Instead attack
and defeat his two sub generals Hu Zhi and Zhu Ling. Once they are both
defeated, Jiang Wei will be accused of siding with your forces. Zhuge Liang
will start heading towards him. Escort Zhuge Liang to meet with him. After
making a proposal, Jiang Wei will join you. When you receive a message
indicating that Jiang Wei\'s agents are in the castle, wait for a while. A
short while later both Yin Shang and Liang Xu will defect and open the castle
doors. Once that happens head on inside and take out Ma Zun.

Shu - Final Act
The End of the Three Kingdoms
-----------------------------

If The fall of Wei was the scenario for Act V, the stages under The fall of
Wu will appear here, and vice versa. After clearing the third stage, the
final stage depends on the scenario for Act V.

[Battle of Xu Chang] (Shu Forces)
Difficulty: ******
This will be the final Shu stage if Act V was The fall of Wu.

From the start of the battle defeat Cao Xiu and Zhen Ji to open up the nearby
gates. Then head up north and engage Xiahou Dun. Do not enter the castle.
Depending on how fast you can defeat all of them you may have time to take on
Man Chong as well. A siege ramp will eventually appear. At the same time Xu
Zhu will launch a surprise attack back at the Shu supply depot. Yue Ying will
tell you that protecting the ramp will make assaulting the castle much
easier, while Zhuge Liang will tell you that a shield cannot be held by two
hands (apparently he\'s never played Kingdom Hearts), and you will have to
choose between protecting the ramp or saving the depot. Here\'s a little tip:
DROP WHATEVER THE HELL YOU ARE DOING AND GO BACK AND SAVE THE DEPOT! I hope
that wasn\'t too subtle. If you don\'t save the depot the result will be a
massive drop in morale that will get everyone killed. Don\'t worry about the
ramp. Haul ass back to the supply depot and kill Xu Zhu as quickly as you
can. By the time you kill him the siege ramp will be set up. Sima Yi will be
incredulous as to how both of his plots have failed. Do not go into the
castle yet. As you might have guessed Sima Yi still has something up his
sleeves.

Turns out that Sima Yi has packed the west courtyard full of gunpowder and
plans to blow the Shu forces to kingdom come. If you are in the courtyard
when the gates close quickly get to one of the nearby bridges crossing the
moat to avoid being blown up when the bomb goes off. Once this happens you
can continue the assault on the castle. Note that if you approach Cao Cao via
the southern gate towards Dian Wei, Pang De will appear as enemy
reinforcements. It\'s easier to attack from the recently blown up courtyard
and take on Sima Yi instead. While you are attacking another wave of Wei
troops will begin assaulting the supply depot. Don\'t worry about it and just
concentrate on taking out Sima Yi and Cao Cao. Cao Cao will be surrounded by
quite a bit of guards so you\'re going to be in for a tough fight. Defeat Cao
Cao and victory will be yours!

[Battle of Jian Ye] (Shu Forces)
Difficulty: ******
This will be the final Shu stage if Act V was The fall of Wei.

This stage can be almost impossible to win, unless you know the trick to
beating it. When the battle starts head towards Huang Gai in the central
area. Sun Jian will appear. Make that Sun Jians will appear. Yes it\'s attack
of the clones. Go ahead and defeat the Sun Jian in the middle. Doing so will
cause yet another Sun Jian to appear behind you, along with Zhuge Jin. Head
back that way and take both of them out. Then head back to the center and
deal with Huang Gai if you haven\'t already done so. The Sun family will begin
attacking. Here\'s the trick. Sun Ce, Sun Quan, and Sun Shang Xiang will
reappear ad infinitum unless the real Sun Jian (the one on the map to the
south) is defeated. It took me quite a while to realize this the first time I
played this stage. Fortunately, Huang Gai, Taishi Ci, and Zhou Tai have no
such immortality so take them out ASAP when the opportunity presents itself.

It would be a good idea to take (the real) Sun Jian out before the Sun
siblings cause too much havoc to your forces. Once that happens Sun Ce will
take over the Wu forces and Sun Quan and Sun Shang Xiang will spawn
infinitely. See a pattern here? Go and take Sun Ce out. Be careful as the Sun
siblings get powered up whenever they become leaders. Once Sun Ce is gone,
Sun Quan will become leader and Sun Shang Xiang will spawn indefinitely. You
can probably guess what to do next. That\'s right. Go and take Sun Quan out.
Sun Shang Xiang will become leader. Fortunately, killing her ends the stage,
so take her out with extreme prejudice. Once the Wu clan has been annihilated
victory is yours!

Wei - Act III
The Rise of Cao Cao
-------------------

[Battle of Xia Pi] (Cao Cao\'s Forces)
Difficulty: ***

From the start of the battle wait near the east side of the castle for a
while. Zhang Liao should appear as reinforcements. Defeating him will cause
him to join Cao Cao. Next head north and deal with Zhang Ba. Lu Bu will
realize that he is vastly outnumbered and will attempt to call Yuan Shu for
reinforcements by sending a carriage with his daughter. The north castle gate
will open and he will personally escort the carriage as it makes its way west
to the entry point. You\'ll be told to stop it, but I don\'t think it\'s
possible as the carriage moves faster than you can damage it. Not to mention
that Lu Bu will be on your ass faster than you can say \"It\'s Lu Bu!\". So just
ignore the carriage for now. What you _can_ do in the meantime is sneak in
the castle via the north gate while he\'s away (he he he). Doing so will
reveal that the river current running through the castle is too fast to make
any progress against it. You will be informed that you can use a rockslide to
block the flow of the river. Quickly make your way to the large rock near the
north of the castle on the other side of the river (you probably noticed it
on the way here). You will end up blocking the river and flooding the castle.
This will also cause Red Hare to appear in the southeast on a small island.
Lu Bu will attempt to get him back, but if you\'re fast enough you can
intercept Red Hare and claim him as your own (note that this does _not_ give
you the Red Hare Harness item). Don\'t forget to break the nearby pot for a
Musou Wine.

Once you have Red Hare you can either fight the remaining generals outside
the gate, or go for Diao Chan on the inside. Note that Wei Xu, Song Xian, and
Hou Cheng will surrender if their morale is low. You can speed up the process
by hitting them a few times. If not, don\'t worry about it too much. What you
should be aware of is that if Diao Chan is defeated Lu Bu will go berserk and
his morale will shoot to eight stars. Also don\'t forget that Yuan Shu will
arrive eventually with reinforcements. If this happens you may have to head
back west to deal with that. Note that Chen Gong will surrender in an event
if Wei Xu, Song Xian, and Hou Cheng have all surrendered. This will also
cause a great deal of Lu Bu\'s troops to desert him. Once all the opposition
is taken care off, head back to Lu Bu and finish him off. You may find it
easier to deal with him if you ignore Diao Chan, but that wouldn\'t any fun
now would it? On a side note you can find a Meat Bun in a pot inside of the
castle near the northern waterway grating.

Dave Matchen writes in to mention that it _is_ possible to destroy the
carriage, though it is very difficult unless you have a fast character. Doing
so will prevent Yuan Shu from arriving later in the battle. He also mentions
that if Diao Chan is alive when the Chen Gong surrender event occurs, both Lu
Bu and Diao Chan will retreat from the battle. The only down side to this is
that Lu Bu will reappear later at Wan Castle looking for revenge.

[Battle of Wan Castle] (Cao Cao\'s Forces)
Difficulty: ***

If you don\'t mind a bit of backtracking from the start turn around and head
southward until you reach the bedroom that you saw in the opening. You can
find a Meat Bun in a jar in the corner. Where were we? Oh yes. Getting back
to saving Cao Cao. He shouldn\'t be too hard to find. Just follow the trail of
enemies and kill them all. Eventually you should meet up with him. Make your
way through the castle, taking out everyone you encounter. Zhang Xiu should
appear later on. While it is possible to defeat him if you have a strong
character, he will retreat when his life gets low. If you want to grab a
Musou Wine, head south from the western entry point until you reach a storage
room. The Musou Wine should be there. Head back and escort Cao Cao through
the halls until you can proceed no further. Dian Wei should break down a door
so Cao Cao can proceed. You will need to backtrack around a bit to reach it.
More generals and Xhang Xiu await you beyond. Kill them all and Cao Cao
should eventually escape.

[Battle of Guan Du] (Cao Cao\'s Forces)
Difficulty: ***

There are two ways to go about this stage: the easy way or the hard way. Most
people will prefer the easy way since it\'s faster and, well, easier. From the
start of the battle Yuan Shao\'s two famous generals Wen Chou and Yan Liang
will assault Yan Jin castle to the left and Bai Ma castle to the right
respectively. Your job is to take them both out before they can overcome the
castle defenses. Man Chong and Yu Jin will both put up a spirited defense,
but their sub generals will fall at an alarming rate. Fortunately, you have
Guan Yu on your side. He will immediately engage Yan Liang right from the
start, but unlike Dynasty Warriors 3 it will take a while before he defeats
him. When Yan Liang is defeated Guan Yu will go after Wen Chou next. If you
have a decent character neither one of them will be much of a problem. When
they are both gone the only thing left do to is to clear out the enemies as
they come advancing towards you. Yuan Shao will arrive with more soldiers,
but he\'s the pebble in the road, not you. When you defeat all of his generals
and sub generals he will run away to fight another day. If you\'re wondering
where Wu Chao compound is, it\'s right in the northwest corner of the map, but
you can\'t access it unless you trigger a series of events. Don\'t worry about
it if you\'re taking the straightforward approach.

For those of you who want a bit more challenge (and want to sack Wu Chao),
you\'ll need to take the longer approach. At the beginning of the battle just
sit back for a while and watch things unfold. Wen Chou will attack Yan Jin
castle and Yan Liang will assault Bai Ma castle. Guan Yu will attack and kill
Yan Liang, then proceed to Wen Chou and do the same. He will then move
towards Yuan Shao, whereupon he will meet Liu Bei. Both of them will leave
the battle, which will effectively end Guan Yu\'s reign of terror. From this
point both castles will be swarmed with enemies. Bai Ma castle will most
likely go first, which will cause Cao Cao to order his men to pull back. When
Yan Jin castle falls, Cao Cao will shut the gates of Guan Du castle. Wait
near the castle until you see a cut scene where Yuan Shao\'s army approaches
with ram vehicles. At this point Cao Cao will personally exit the castle and
head for Wu Chao compound to the northwest. If you want you can try to
destroy all of the siege weapons (there are three, two in front and one to
the left of the castle), but it may be a better idea to leave them alone and
escort Cao Cao. He will head north via the right path that splits into two
and then take a left at Bai Ma castle and head directly towards Wu Chao. If
you don\'t feel like guarding Cao Cao you can just make a break for the
compound and sack Chunyu Qiong. Yuan Shao will send reinforcements once he
realizes what is happening, but it\'s a little too late. Once Wu Chao is
burning Zhang He and Gao Lan decide to defect to your side. At this point Cao
Cao orders everyone to take advantage of the chaos and counter attack. With
two additional generals and a huge morale boost it shouldn\'t take long for
you to totally decimate Yuan Shao\'s army.

Note that if you had previously defeated Lu Bu at Hu Lao Gate, he will appear
here to fight you. If you defeat him, Yuan Shao will be amazed that there is
someone even mightier than Lu Bu. =)

Wei - Tales
Guan Yu\'s Escape
----------------

Requirements: In Act I, select The Yellow Turban Rebellion first. In Act II
clear both stages.

[Guan Yu\'s Escape] (Cao Cao\'s Forces)
Difficulty: ***

This battle is very difficult if you don\'t have a horse and are using a slow
character. Guan Yu and the carriage move fairly quickly so you can\'t afford
to be distracted too long by the Shu forces that engage you. It is possible
to catch up to the carriage quickly with a horse, but don\'t bother trying to
destroy it. It\'s a decoy and destroying it will cause Liu Bei and Zhang Fei
to appear, which is the last thing you need. On a side note, destroying the
fake carriage will cause the real carriage to appear. Unlike the fake
version, the real carriage is much more difficult to destroy, but it is
possible if you have a particularly strong character. If the carriage does
get destroyed the stage ends in victory. But most likely you will have to end
the stage by defeating Guan Yu instead.

Wei - Tales
The Yuan Family\'s Pride
-----------------------

Requirements: In Act II, select the Battle of Hu Lao Gate first and defeat Lu
Bu. In Act III, select the Battle of Guan Du first, defeat all generals and
let Yuan Shao retreat.

[Battle of Ji Province] (Cao Cao\'s Forces)
Difficulty: ***

This is a straightforward battle involving everyone\'s favorite famous family
the Yuans. You have Yuan Shang on the left, Yuan Tan on the right, and Yuan
Xi in the middle. Go ahead and have fun eradicating the Yuan family. Once you
defeat either Yuan Shang or Yuan Tan, the head Yuan himself will make his
appearance to the southeast. Once all the other Yuans are annihilated, head
on over to Shao and eradicate him. Farewell Yuans. You will be sorely missed.

-----------------------
Wei - Act IV
The War against Liu Bei
-----------------------

[Battle of Bo Wan Po] (Cao Cao\'s Forces)
Difficulty: ****
Bonus: Defeating Zhuge Liang here will cause him to be considerably weaker at
Chi Bi.

This battle is extremely frustrating. Not because it\'s difficult, but because
the bloodthirsty nature of your Wei comrades tends to send them straight into
all of Zhuge Liang\'s traps. From the start of the battle they will head
straight for Zhao Yun, who in turn will feign retreat and lure all of them
into a firetrap. I\'ve only managed to prevent this once and that was only
when I defeated him in a duel. If anyone has strategies on how to prevent
this I\'d love to hear them. Anyway, once you approach Liu Bei\'s position both
Liu Bei and Zhuge Liang will disappear. This will of course trigger more
traps. Sometimes you will detect ambushes, but I\'m not sure what triggers
this. Guan Yu will appear later to add to the fun.

Once you\'ve taken care of the Shu generals, Liu Bei and Zhuge Liang will
appear in Cao Cao\'s own base. Zhang Fei will appear as well and will
automatically burn down Cao Cao\'s supply depot. The only way I know of
preventing this is to avoid all of Zhuge Liang\'s traps. Get revenge for your
Wei comrades by going inside and taking out Zhang Fei and Zhuge Liang, then
finishing off Liu Bei himself.

Mercy Adel writes in to mention that it is possible to prevent Zhao Yun from
escaping in the early battle if you lure him towards you instead of entering
in the circular area where he is. Of course, this will only work if you\'re
the first one to reach him. If Zhao Yun is lured out he will immediately
challenge you to a duel. Defeating him will prevent the fire attack from
occurring. Once that is done head towards the northern route where Han Hao
is. An enemy ambush should appear. Defeat the officer to discover Guan Xing\'s
ambush. Do not approach Guan Xing (or Liu Bei or Zhuge Liang\'s position
either, as this will trigger Guan Yu\'s appearance). Instead let him be
defeated by your own forces. Once he is defeated head for Guan Yu, who will
_not_ challenge you to a duel when you approach him. If he does challenge you
to a duel this means that you did not prevent Zhuge Liang\'s ploy and the
supply depot is going to get burned. Defeat Guan Yu and Zhang Fei will appear
back at Cao Cao\'s base. This time, however, he will not burn the supply
depot.

[Battle of Chang Ban] (Cao Cao\'s Forces)
Difficulty: ****
Bonus: Defeating Liu Bei here will reduce the number of enemy troops guarding
Zhuge Liang at Chi Bi.

This is probably one of the most frustrating stages for the Wei campaign.
Unlike in DW3, Liu Bei will make a beeline for the escape point from the get
go, so you will need to intercept him post haste. If you don\'t have a horse
you\'re going to have to avoid combat entirely and head directly for Liu Bei.
I would not recommend using a slow character for this stage unless they have
a harness equipped. But even faster characters will have a hard time keeping
up. Note that if you enter the fort area Zhuge Liang will close the gates to
buy Liu Bei more time to escape. You will need to defeat him quickly to open
the exits. If you do decide to engage generals, do so quickly. I\'m not sure
if there is a way to slow Liu Bei down, as every time I\'ve played this stage
he ends up making a mad dash for the escape point. If you have trouble with
this stage I would recommend playing Free Mode to build up a strong Wei
character.

[Battle of Chi Bi] (Cao Cao\'s Forces)
Difficulty: ****

From the start of the battle you should head to the northwest area quickly to
meet with Pang Tong. Once you meet up with him he will realize that his plan
has been discovered (why else would you be there?) and will attempt to flee.
Ignore him and head for Zhuge Liang. Guan Yu will appear to defend the altar
area. Engage him if you like, but remember that your primary target is Zhuge
Liang. Note that if you had previously defeated him at Bo Wan Po he will be
considerably weakened due to his injuries. Once he\'s been dealt with Huang
Gai will begin his approach to the east of the center bridge. Go head on
there immediately to give him the appropriate welcome party. Once Huang Gai
is defeated the fire plan will have failed completely. Sun Jian will become
desperate and order an all out attack, but at this point it\'s a matter of
cleaning up the remaining Wu officers. Note that preventing the fire attack
is a requirement to obtain Wei\'s fourth ending.

--------------------
Wei - Tales
The Stalwart Ma Chao
--------------------

Requirements: In Act III select the Battle of Chi Bi first.

[Battle of Tong Gate] (Cao Cao\'s Forces)
Difficulty: ****

This battle is a bit tougher as the Wei forces. Cheng Yi will be guarding the
entrance to Tong Gate, and judging from the flaming aura around him he\'s not
too happy. Ma Chao\'s generals Pang De and Ma Dai will also exit the gate to
engage you, and both are pretty tough fighters. Wei Yan is also hanging
around the area, but he doesn\'t pose as much of a threat as these three. Once
they\'ve been taken care of, the rest of the battle is pretty much a breeze.
To get Han Sui to surrender you must defeat all other generals and sub
generals other than Han Sui and Ma Chao. Once Cao Cao approaches from the
north across the river he should meet up with Han Sui. If there are no other
generals other than Han Sui and Ma Chao, and if Han Sui\'s morale is at no
stars, he will surrender and join your side. With such lop sided odds in your
favor Ma Chao doesn\'t really have a prayer.

---------------
Wei - Tales
Lu Bu\'s Revenge
---------------

Requirements: In Act II, during the Battle of Hu Lao Gate defeat Lu Bu. In
Act III, during the Battle of Guan Du defeat Lu Bu. In Act IV play through
all the stages in order. During the Battle of Chi Bi prevent the prayer for
wind and fire attack.

[Lu Bu\'s Offensive] (Cao Cao\'s Forces)
Difficulty: ****

From the start of the battle engage Gao Shun (or Diao Chan, depending on
where you start). He/she drops a +4 attack/defense when they give up the
ghost. For some reason Lu Bu doesn\'t get mad if you defeat Diao Chan, which
is rather strange. Lu Bu may or may not head your way during the battle. If
he does, run away for now. Eventually the east gate of the castle will close,
and the plan to trap Lu Bu will be set into motion. Beside the south, west
and left north gates are gongs. Ringing the gongs will close the respective
gate nearby. You will need to close all three gates before Lu Bu reaches
them. When the east gate closes head for the south gate and ring the gong
when you get the message that Xiahou Dun has cleared the castle. When the
gate closes head for the west gate. Ring the gong when Cao Cao leaves the
castle. Finally head to the left north gate and ring the gong. Do not leave
the castle until Zhang Liao exits (unless you want to get him killed). When
you exit via the north gate it will close and the entire castle will be set
on fire, instantly killing everyone inside of it (including your own allies
if you trapped them inside), including Lu Bu. But it can\'t be that easy, can
it? Just as you expected Lu Bu had survived the fire attack, and he\'s not too
happy about it. Enter the castle and the two of you will exchange some
pleasantries before you duel to the death. Fortunately for you, the fire
attack has _significantly_ weakened Lu Bu to the point that you can kill him
with a standard normal attack and Musou attack combo.

--------------
Wei - Act V
The fall of Wu
--------------

In Act IV, if the fire attack at the Battle of Chi Bi is prevented, this will
be the Wei scenario for Act V.

[The Siege of Fan Castle] (Wei Forces)
Difficulty: ******

The goal here is to destroy all four siege weapons before they open an
entrance to Fan Castle. While you can safely ignore the catapults to the
north and south of the castle, the siege ramps will bridge the moat in a few
seconds when they reach their target areas west and east of the castle.
Unless you have Red Hare, or better yet Shadow Runner, and a super powerful
character with a 10th weapon, it\'s nearly impossible to destroy both siege
ramps before they are set up. The west siege ramp starts from the south and
the east siege ramp starts to the northeast. Both move to their respective
locations fairly quickly. The easiest way to destroy a siege ramp is to blast
it with a Musou attack. The only problem is getting enough Musou energy to
destroy the second one. That and the fact that Zhou Tai, Taishi Ci, Sun Shang
Xiang, and Lu Xun are particularly zealous about guarding the siege weapons.
If you do manage to destroy both ramps before they are set up, you truly are
a god of war. Once both ramps are toast, you can go back and take out the two
catapults at your leisure since they take forever to break the doors down.
When all four siege devices are destroyed, Cao Ren will get excited and open
all the castle gates that you just spent all that effort in defending. What
an idiot! >=(

If a ramp does manage to breach the wall, the Wu forces will swarm in like
cockroaches. Take your aggression out on all of them. During the battle a
supply troop will appear from the entry point southwest of the castle and
will quickly head for the entry point south of the castle. I\'m not exactly
sure what happens if they do reach the exit safely (other than a morale
drop), as I usually try to eliminate them as quickly as possible, though this
is difficult unless you are nearby the vicinity. Once you\'ve destroyed a few
Wu generals (or siege engines), Lu Meng will join the battle. Go ahead and
take out your frustration on him as well. Once the Wu generals are defeated
head over to Sun Quan and finish him off.

[Battle of Shi Ting] (Wei Forces)
Difficulty: ******
Bonus: Defeating Liu Xun here will weaken him at He Fei.

Go after Cao Xiu and intercept Zhou Fan before he can launch his ambush. Yes,
Zhou Fang is planning to betray you if you haven\'t figured it out already.
You can prevent this by immediately heading for Ding Feng and killing him
quickly. Once this happens Zhou Fan\'s plot will be uncovered. Head for Cao
Xiu to warn him. Once you get near him he will realize Zhou Fan\'s treachery
and Zhou Fan will quickly turn on him. If you fail to make it in time and he
does get ambushed, keep close to Cao Xiu and protect him from the enemy.
Clear a path back to the Wei base for him so he returns safely. Once Cao Xiu
is safe launch a counter attack against all of the Wu generals. If Zhou Fan
is discovered in time he will show his true colors, whereupon you can quickly
annihilate him. Lu Xun will try to launch an ambush against your forces, but
it\'s pretty laughable at this point. Once Cao Xiu is safe either way and all
the Wu generals are defeated the Wu base gate will open. Lu Xun will launch
ambushes all over the map in a last ditch effort to defeat you, but only one
new general (Zhu Zhi) will appear and his name doesn\'t exactly inspire terror
among the Wei forces. Huang Gai will try to stop you inside the base, but
he\'s fighting a losing battle. Once Huang Gai is defeated there is nothing
left standing between you and Lu Xun.

[Battle of He Fei] (Wei Forces)
Difficulty: ******

From the start of the battle engage the Wu forces at will. Zhang Liao will
attack Sun Jian in the middle, then feign retreat to draw him across the
bridge. Once Sun Jian crosses over the bridge will blow up, leaving him
stranded in the middle. Unfortunately, this will only be temporary, as he
will eventually jump back across the other side. To make matters worse Lu Xun
will launch a surprise attack in the west followed by Gan Ning in the east
and Taishi Ci in the middle. At this point the battle becomes a general
slugfest. Quickly defeat the Wu generals one at a time so that your allies
won\'t get overwhelmed. Li Dian will arrive to help, but usually this will
happen when most of the opposition is already gone. Once the three main
generals are defeated head for Sun Jian\'s camp. Cheng Pu and Lu Su are
defending the camp, but compared to you they aren\'t much of a threat. Once
they\'ve been dealt with take out the tiger himself.

---------------
Wei - Act V
The fall of Shu
---------------

In Act IV, if the fire attack at the Battle of Chi Bi is not prevented, this
will be the Wei scenario for Act V.

[Battle of Mt. Ding Jun] (Wei Forces)
Difficulty: ******
\"Bonus\": Defeating Huang Zhong here will cause him to appear at Wu Zhang
Plains.

As Xiahou Yuan says \"All\'s fair in war.\" Start out the battle by killing Chen
Shi (he he he). Then head back to the Wei camp before the gates close and
trap you on the other side. From here head to Xiahou De\'s position to help
him against Huang Zhong. Your character will have a short conversation with
him, whereupon you can proceed to finish him off. Next head south where Zhao
Yun will appear. Deal with him appropriately and continue to head towards Liu
Bei. Zhang Fei should be marauding in the Wei camp so deal with him first.
Then proceed to take on Zhuge Liang. Liu Bei will likely move in while you
two are fighting, so try to retreat and take them on one at a time.

[Battle of Jie Ting] (Wei Forces)
Difficulty: ******
\"Bonus\": Defeating Ma Su here will cause Sima Yi to taunt him at Wu Zhang
Plains. Jasper Yap writes in to mention that this also causes Ma Su\'s morale
to drop to zero.

There\'s nothing more fun than a mission involving Ma Su, especially if you\'re
the Wei forces. Start the battle by quickly and quietly annihilating all
three of Ma Su\'s sub generals to the north, east, and west of his position.
When all three are dead Ma Su will be completely surrounded, and Zhang He
will begin his assault. You have to love that pose at the end. Anyway, at
this time Zhao Yun, Wei Yan, and Zhuge Liang will arrive to attempt to save
his sorry ass. Make their efforts in vain by eliminating Ma Su immediately.
Then deal with Zhao Yun and Wei Yan, and finally Zhuge Liang. Yue Ying is
nearby and she drops a +4 Defense item so don\'t forget to take her out first.

[Battle of Wu Zhang Plains] (Wei Forces)
Difficulty: ******

The key to victory here is to take out the supply compound located to the
southwest of the Shu camp. Unfortunately, it\'s heavily guarded by
Juggernauts, which are huge fire breathing tanks that take just about forever
to destroy. I\'d recommend you bring eight elite bodyguards and a level nine
weapon for this one.

From the start head towards Ma Chao and take him out. Beyond are about four
juggernauts. If you\'re feeling up to it take them down. If not run like hell
before they char broil you. Zhao Yun guards the west gate of the Shu camp.
Defeating him will open the gate up. Fight him if you want, but your main
goal is the supply depot. Liao Hua is guarding it, and defeating him will
cause you to occupy it, resulting in a morale increase. By now Zhuge Liang
will try his fake death scheme. Guarding the front gate is Jiang Wei (Yue
Ying if you haven\'t unlocked him yet) and two arbalests. Defeating him will
open the gate. Ma Su should arrive as reinforcements. If you had previously
defeated him at Jie Ting, Sima Yi will begin mocking him. =)

Once Sima Yi arrives Zhuge Liang will appear and scare him away again.
Unfortunately for him, if you had previously taken over the supply depot it\'s
not going to be enough. Go ahead and take out the remaining Shu generals,
then take out Zhuge Liang. Once he\'s dealt with Liu Bei should be no problem
at all.

----------------
Wei - Tales
Dong Zhuo lives!
----------------

Requirements: Clear less than 10 stages. In Act II, during the Battle at Hu
Lao Gate let Dong Zhuo retreat. In Act V, depending on which scenario you
receive select the Battle of He Fei or the Battle of Wu Zhang Plains first.

[Dong Zhuo in Ji] (Wei Forces)
Difficulty: *****

This battle is tough, but if you have a strong character it won\'t be anything
that you can\'t handle. Initially Dong Min will attack from the west while
Zhang Ji will attack from the east. Defeating either one of them brings out
more reinforcements, who will immediately head for Cao Cao\'s position. Go
back to base camp and defend it against the seemingly endless waves of
enemies. It will be a tough fight, but Xu Zhu, Zhang Liao, and Zhang He will
put up a spirited defense as well. Dong Zhuo will arrive later in the battle,
but he stays put and lets his generals do all the attacking. There are seven
waves of reinforcements in all (not counting Dong Zhuo). When they are all
dead, proceed to the mad dictator and put an end to him once and for all.

Wei - Final Act
The End of the Three Kingdoms
-----------------------------

If The fall of Wu was the scenario for Act V, the stages under The fall of
Shu will appear here, and vice versa. After clearing the third stage, the
final stage depends on the scenario for Act V.

[Battle of Jian Ye] (Wei Forces)
Difficulty: ******
This will be the final Wei stage if Act V was The Fall of Shu.

This stage is identical to the final Shu vs Wu battle.

[Battle of Chen Du] (Wei Forces)
Difficulty: ******
This will be the final Wei stage if Act V was The Fall of Wu.

Start the battle by immediately heading for Ma Su\'s position in the castle.
Take out Wang Ping, then the nearby general guarding the gate. Yue Ying and
Zhuge Liang will start admonishing Wei Yan. This should be a clue that Wei
Yan may end up joining your forces later if you play your cards right. Zhuge
Liang will order his arbalest units to open fire from the castle. Stay close
to the wall so you don\'t get hit. Several ram units should appear and begin
assaulting the gates. Clear the area of enemies, taking care to stay out of
the range of those arbalests. Zhang Bao will appear to the south in an event.
Head down there and take him out. It might take a while since he\'s powered up
for this battle. Once he\'s dead head for Ma Dai and take him out as well. By
this time one (or both) of the castle gates will have been knocked down. Head
on it and kill Ma Su. Killing Ma Su will stop the arbalests from firing.

When Ma Su is killed Sima Yi will try to persuade Wei Yan to join Wei. Wei
Yan will turn against Shu and join your forces. Celebrate by heading for Yue
Ying. Don\'t enter the forest just yet as it is crawling with enemies hiding
in ambush. When you approach Yue Ying\'s position your scouts will discover a
secret path. Unfortunately, this path is covered in mines and they will all
get blown up when they try to cross it. Keep heading for the wooden walkway,
where Yue Ying will send juggernauts after you. There are quite a bit of
juggernauts here (about 7 or 8), so if you don\'t feel like taking them all on
simply run past and ignore them. There will be some near Yue Ying so you may
have to use several Musou attacks to take them out lest they turn you into a
crispy fried chicken while you\'re fighting her. Once you kill Yue Ying the
juggernauts will stop functioning.

At this point Ma Chao should appear in the castle where Ma Su was.
Fortunately, so should most of your allies. Head back and take him out. When
Ma Chao is dead, all that\'s left should be Liu Bei and Zhuge Liang. Head for
the forest area and take out all the sub generals that appear. Guan Yu will
appear here as well. Once he\'s gone Liu Bei is pretty much finished. Jiang
Wei will be around his position if you unlocked him previously. Spank him
good. Zhuge Liang should still be in the northwest corner. Go and kill him
for fun as well. Once all of Liu Bei\'s generals are dead, the gates of Cheng
Du will open and a peasant militia will appear to defend him. We\'re
definitely shaking in our boots. Go ahead and slaughter them all for fun. I
usually kill every last one of them until Liu Bei is the only one left. When
there is no one else left to kill, you might as well go and finish off Liu
Bei. Congratulations! Cao Cao now reigns supreme over China!

This stage is identical to the one in the Shu Musou Mode. The only difference
is that Sun Jian is your leader and Huang Gai and Sun Shang Xiang are the
generals.

The Two Qiaos
-------------

Requirements: Clear Wu Musou Mode once. In Act I, select The Yellow Turban
Fortress first, then The Yellow Turban Rebellion.

[The Two Qiaos] (Sun Jian\'s Forces)
Difficulty: *

Don\'t let the difficulty fool you. This one isn\'t for the faint at heart. You
will be constantly attacked by hundreds of enemies with only three allies to
help you. And if any one of them dies it\'s game over. Head towards Xiao Qiao,
who is being pursued by several guards. Kill them all and Xiao Qiao will join
you. Now you have the greatest fighter in China with you. I feel better
already. Anyway, head for the castle and rescue her sister Da. Sun Ce will
meet up with her as well. Once all the enemies are dealt with both of them
will join you.

As you leave the castle and head south, Niou Fu will appear from behind and
start chasing you. Shortly after, Dong Zhuo and his forces will arrive from
the south. Xiao Qiao (or was it Da Qiao, I forget) will suggest hiding from
the enemy. Head immediately for the left side of the map through the gate.
Dong Zhuo should pass right through the middle and head straight for the
castle. If Dong Zhuo does spot you en route he will send all the generals on
the map after you. If you stay out of sight until he passes by, you will only
have to deal with one general at a time. Thanks go to Mycheal Campbell for
pointing this out. Niou Fu, Hua Xiong, Xu Rong, and Li Jue should be no
problem if you deal with them one at a time. Once they are all dealt with
head for Guo Si near the escape point and take him out.

Requirements: In Act II, select Battle of Hu Lao Gate first.

[The Imperial Seal] (Sun Jian\'s Forces)
Difficulty: **

There has been a lot of confusion regarding obtaining the Imperial Seal in
this stage. You can find it in one of three ways. First, you can wait until
Dong Zhuo finds it and take it from him. Second, you can wait for 27 minutes
for the Seal to appear automatically. Or third, you can smash all 99 boxes
and the Seal will appear. Now that I\'ve manually written down the locations
of all the boxes on the stage, I find that it\'s easier to just find them all.

Forget what Sun Jian says about stealth. If I wanted to be stealthy I would
play Tenchu instead. Trust me on this one. Go ahead and attack Zhang Liao. He
will alert everyone else to your presence, and Li Jue and Diao Chan will
start heading for you. Lu Bu and Dong Zhuo will appear as well. Go ahead and
take them all out. For some reason Lu Bu is much weaker than he was at Hu Lao
Gate. Once they are all defeated, take out all the remaining enemies in the
area. Try not to hit any of the boxes just yet if you want to follow the
guide I listed below. Once everyone is gone, you can proceed to hunt down the
elusive Imperial Seal.

#################################
#NORTHWEST AREA (12 boxes total)#
#################################

Northwest corner (4 boxes): There are two boxes in the corner and two more a
little further south.

Southwest corner (3 boxes)

Large center building (2 boxes): To the right of the large building.

Northeast corner (3 boxes)

#################################
#NORTHEAST AREA (24 boxes total)#
#################################

Northwest corner (4 boxes)

Near the north entry point (3 boxes)

Small house in the northeast (5 boxes): Two should be near the wall and three
south of the house.

Two small houses near the middle (2 boxes): One should be north of each one.

Southeast corner (3 boxes)

House south of the house in the northwest (2 boxes)

Two rectangular houses in the southwest (5 boxes): Two should be above the
north house and three should be by the left side of the south house.

#################################
#SOUTHWEST AREA (25 boxes total)#
#################################

Northwest corner (7 boxes): Three are in the corner, and four are south
between the two wall protrusions.

Left of the north gate (3 boxes)

Southwest corner (6 boxes)

Southeast corner (3 boxes)

South large building (6 boxes): Two boxes each on each side of the north
stairs. Two boxes to the right of the building.

#################################
#SOUTHEAST AREA (35 boxes total)#
#################################

Northwest corner (7 boxes)

Large house near the northwest corner (3 boxes): Two are near the northeast
corner of the house. One is a little further away next to a vendor stall.

Southwest near west gate (2 boxes)

Near south entry point (3 boxes)

Southeast corner (4 boxes): Two are a little further from the corner area.

Two vertical rectangular houses to east (2 boxes): North of the left house.

Northeast corner (9 boxes)

Area left to the northeast corner (5 boxes): There are four boxes near the
vendor stalls. One is a little more left of the area.

###############################
#TOTAL: 12 + 24 + 25 + 35 = 96#
###############################

So where are the remaining 3 boxes you may ask? These boxes only appear when
a scout mentions a location that may have the Imperial Seal. These boxes are
red in color and _do_ count towards the total boxes. While they don\'t have
the Seal they do contain a random item. If you have all 96 boxes and the
scouts don\'t report anything you may have to wander around the area a bit
before they do. Here\'s the location of the three special box locations.

######################
#SCOUT REPORTED BOXES#
######################

Northeast area: Up the stairs on the east wall of the area.

Southeast area: Southwest corner.

Northeast area: Northeast corner.

Once you have all 99 boxes the Imperial Seal will appear in a special box in
the northwest area in the northwest corner. Congratulations! Let\'s do it
again!

Wu - Act III
The Little Conqueror
--------------------

[Assault on Liu Biao] (Sun Jian\'s Forces)
Difficulty: ***

Start things out by engaging Huang Zu immediately. Cao Mao will appear by
Chen Sheng to double team Lu Xun. Help him out when you\'ve dealt with Huang
Zu. During this time Lu Gong will lure Sun Jian into the fort, whereupon they
will close the gate and trap him inside. Don\'t worry too much about it for
now. Head up towards Lu Xun and take out both Cai Mao and Chen Sheng. While
you\'re busy with them Yan Liang will appear to menace Sun Ce. Take care of
the two generals here before you head for him. While en route to Sun Ce, Yuan
Shao will appear and attack Lu Xun. The fun never ends does it? Go take out
Yan Liang before you deal with Yuao Shao. Once all of the generals are taken
care of, head for the fort where we left Sun Jian fighting for his life.
Defeat the gate captain nearby to open the gate, then head in and rescue him.
Kill Lu Gong, then keep going west and surprise Kuai Lang. From there head
towards Liu Biao\'s fort and clear both gate captains to the east and south.
Then head on inside and beat Liu Biao down.

[Campaign for the Wu Territory] (Sun Jian\'s Forces)
Difficulty: ***

Note: Taishi Ci will not appear here in Musou Mode if you previously unlocked
him.

Taishi Ci will destroy the bridge to the south at the beginning of the
battle, so you\'ll have to head east. The enemy will flee into the first fort
at the beginning and close the doors. If you have a fast horse like Red Hare
you can actually head straight in before the gates close. If not, don\'t worry
about it. Sun Ce will send someone to infiltrate the fort and open the doors
inside. Take out everyone in the fort and head west towards the next one. The
fort to the south is closed for now, but you\'ll find a way in later. Liu Yong
will retreat to the fort south of his position and lock the doors, but don\'t
worry about it. You\'ll get to him in due time. Taishi Ci is waiting outside
for you and will challenge you to a duel immediately. When you defeat him
he\'ll be asked to join your forces. He\'ll tell you he needs time to think
about it and runs off. He\'ll be back with reinforcements, but this time he\'ll
be on your side. In the meanwhile Yan Baihu and Wang Liang will arrive with
overwhelming reinforcements. While you can stay and fight, unless your
character is fairly built up it\'s going to be a tough battle. Run through the
east gate and head for the fort with the gong outside. Go ahead and ring it.
Fan Meng will open the gates, thinking you are an ally. Quickly run inside
and take out Fan Meng before he realizes what is going on. Taishi Ci\'s
reinforcements should arrive shortly. From this point you can head back and
clear out the remaining generals or head for Liu Yong directly.

[Unification of Jiang Dong] (Sun Jian\'s Forces)
Difficulty: ***

This is a straightforward fight for supremacy over the Wu territory. The
battle begins with Yue Jiu and Li Feng attacking your supply depot. Go and
take them both out. Zhou Yu will give you a message indicating that the
supplies are safe. Head south across the bridge and defeat Liang Gang, then
head for the central castle and take out Yuan Shu. Liu Xun will have
retreated to the west fort so chase him there via the southern path. Destroy
Ji Ling on the way over and clear house when you reach the fort. None of the
generals there are any real threat so just go crazy and have fun.

---------------------
Wu - Tales
The Tiger\'s Adversary
---------------------

Requirements: In Act III, select Unification of Jiang Dong first.

[Unification of Jing] (Sun Jian\'s Forces)
Difficulty: ***

It doesn\'t get much straightforward than this. Sun Jian takes on four enemies
at once with only a small force accompanying him. Liu Yong, Wang Lang, and
Yan Baihu will realize early in the fight that they haven\'t a prayer against
you, so they decide to join together and team up against you. Liu Biao will
most likely stay holed up in his castle for the most part, so head for Liu
Yong, Wang Lang, and Yan Baihu and take them all out in that order. Once they
are all defeated Liu Biao will come charging out of his castle. Take him out
as well.

------------------
Wu - Act IV
Showdown at Chi Bi
------------------

[Battle of Xia Kou] (Sun Jian\'s Forces)
Difficulty: ****

Note: Gan Ning will not appear here in Musou Mode if you previously unlocked
him.

Head north and engage Deng Long and Chen Jiu, who are just begging to be
killed. Zhou Yu will suggest driving a wedge between Huang Zu and Gan Ning,
as they\'re not exactly the best of friends. DO NOT DEFEAT SU FEI. If you
defeat him Gan Ning will never join you. When you approach Gan Ning he will
immediately challenge you to a duel. Be careful, as he has been pumped up to
Lu Bu like levels in this battle. Defeating him will cause Su Fei to beg for
his life, which will in turn cause Gan Ning to join your forces. Su Fei will
withdraw from battle afterwards, but you can kill him now if you like (he he
he). Zhou Yu will eventually spot some explosives on the northern ship. Hit
the explosives to set the boat on fire. When you leave the boat it will start
drifting away south. Huang Zu will arrive with his ship and a whole boatload
of reinforcements. Engage his forces. Eventually the boat you set on fire
will hit his boat, causing major damage to his forces. While this is helpful,
Huang Zu isn\'t really that tough to beat in the first place. You can often
defeat him before the boat even arrives.

[Defense of Nanman] (Sun Jian\'s Forces)
Difficulty: ****
Bonus: Clearing this stage will give you additional forces in the final act.

Think of this as a warm up for the real Nanman battle later on. The enemies
here are much weaker than their later counterparts, but there\'s quite a bit
of elephants running amuck in the area. Start the battle by heading over to
King Mulu and commandeer his elephant. You can destroy gate barriers and
towers simply by running into them. Make sure you clear all four nearby gate
barriers (check the map for their locations), before you ditch the elephant.
It may be a while before you can get another one if this one disappears. If
you get too close to Meng You\'s position, Zhu Rong will appear to the
northeast and start going on a rampage. If this happens head up there ASAP
and take her out. Once she\'s defeated take out King Dousi and Wu Tugu if you
haven\'t already. When they\'re gone head towards Meng Huo\'s position and take
out his subordinates Dailai Dongzhu and Meng You before taking on the big man
himself.

[Battle of Chi Bi] (Sun Jian\'s Forces)
Difficulty: ****

This stage is similar to Shu\'s version, except that Gan Ning and Lu Meng are
among your allies. If you didn\'t clear the Defense of Nanman first, the
number of Wu troops present will decrease. For some reason Zhuge Liang is
especially vulnerable here, so you may have to abandon Pang Tong in order to
save Zhuge Liang from an early demise.

---------------
Wu - Act V
The fall of Shu
---------------

In Act IV, if the fire attack at the Battle of Chi Bi is successful, this
will be the Wu scenario for Act V.

[Race for the Nan Territory] (Wu Forces)
Difficulty: *****
\"Bonus\": Clearing this stage will cause Guan Yu to appear at Yi Ling.

The goal here is to take all three territories from the Wei forces before the
Shu forces do. While Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, and Zhao Yun are your allies
remember that you are racing against them in taking out the Wei generals.
Guan Yu will try to take Xiang Yang to the west (Xiahou Dun), Zhang Fei will
aim for Jing Province to the south (Zhang Liao), and Zhao Yun will assault
the Nan territory (Cao Ren in the large castle). Your job is to prevent them
from defeating all three Wei generals before you do.

From the start Zhou Yu will assault Cao Ren from the north of the castle.
Kill Wang Lang quickly to gain entrance. Once Zhou Yu enters the castle he
will get hit with an arrow. He will get an idea and start withdrawing,
causing Cao Ren to come charging out of the castle. Note that if you _are_
Zhou Yu you will need to withdraw back to camp to get the ploy to work.
Quickly ambush Cao Ren when he comes out. Once he\'s defeated the Wu forces
will claim Nan territory. One down, two to go.

Head immediately to the west where Huang Gai and Guan Yu are double-teaming
Xiahou Dun. Annihilate Xiahou Dun before Guan Yu can. If Xiahou Dun is low on
life, don\'t hesitate to use a Musou to finish him off, as having Guan Yu get
a lucky finishing blow in while you did most of the work would really suck.
Two down, one to go.

Once Wu claims Nan territory and Xiang Yang, quickly race over to Zhang
Liao\'s position. Battling him is yet another Zhang by the name of Fei.
Depending on how quickly you claimed the first two areas, Zhao Yun or Guan Yu
may be already there trying to take him out. Make sure you have a full Musou
gauge so you can quickly finish Zhang Liao off when he\'s low on life. Once
all the territories are claimed the stage will end. Note that successfully
claming all three territories is necessary to obtain Wu\'s fourth ending.

[The Nanman Campaign] (Wu Forces)
Difficulty: ******

This stage is identical to the one in the Shu Musou Mode.

[Battle of Yi Ling] (Wu Forces)
Difficulty: ******

Start the battle by immediately taking out Wei Yan. You should get a message
saying that Zhu Ran has begun his infiltration of the Shu camp. I have no
idea how to prevent the watchtowers from detecting Zhu Ran as I\'ve destroyed
all of them and they still end up detecting him. Go figure. Anyway, when Zhu
Ran does get detected protect him at all costs until he can launch the fire
attack.

Nick Vale writes in to mention that it appears that you can prevent the
watchtowers from detecting Zhu Ran by eliminating all of the archers on the
towers near the infiltration point. I have confirmed this. Once all the
archers have been eliminated the fire attack will automatically take place.
This is a whole lot easier than having to protect Zhu Ran.

Once the fire attack begins Liu Bei will withdraw inside the castle.
Annihilate the remaining Shu generals before heading into the stone maze.
Note that if you previously cleared The Nanman Campaign, Meng Huo will arrive
as Shu reinforcements. Once you navigate through the maze Zhuge Liang will
appear with a waterway leading to the Wu camp. Go ahead and follow them
across, taking out the Shu generals that remain behind in a futile effort to
stop you. Once at the Wu camp Zhuge Liang and Liu Bei will try to double-team
you. Isolate them and finish them off one at a time.

Wu - Tales
Guan Yu, God of War
-------------------

Requirements: Clear Wu Musou Mode once. In Act IV, select Battle of Chi Bi
first. Ensure the success of the prayer for wind and fire attack. In Act V
(The fall of Shu), select Battle of Yi Ling first and ensure the success of
the fire attack by protecting Zhu Ran.

[Battle of Mai Castle] (Wu Forces)
Difficulty: *****

From the start of the battle Guan Yu will send Liao Hua to get
reinforcements. Quickly eliminate him to prevent this from happening. While
you can engage Guan Yu fairly early on in the battle, he\'s going to be very
tough so you may want to wait till later. The same can\'t be said of his other
generals so go ahead and take them all out. When they\'re gone Guan Yu will
signal a retreat. Defeat the gate captains inside of the castle to the north
and south to prevent him from escaping. When this happens a new entry point
will appear to the north of the castle. Go and take that one out as well.
When this happens yet another entry point will appear, this time all the way
south of the castle. Pan Zhang will appear to help you there. Once all of the
escape points have been blocked off Guan Yu will head directly for your
commander. Going into the castle at this time will cause the gates to close
and trap you inside with many enemies. Quickly defeat both of the two
generals that appear to open the gates again. Zhang Fei will appear to help
Guan Yu and will quickly kill Pan Zhang. Make your way to the remaining oath
brothers and take Zhang Fei. Once he\'s gone go and put an end to the god of
war himself.

---------------
Wu - Act V
The fall of Wei
---------------

In Act IV, if the fire attack at the Battle of Chi Bi is unsuccessful, this
will be the Wu scenario for Act V.

[The Siege of Fan Castle] (Wu Forces)
Difficulty: ******
Bonus: Clearing this stage will cause reinforcements to appear at He Fei when
Sun Jian becomes trapped. Sun Shang Xiang will also bring a catapult to
assault He Fei castle. I forgot to also mention that clearing this stage also
causes Zhen Ji to appear later in the Battle of Shi Ting. Thanks to
SoulStealer for pointing that out.

What I don\'t get about this stage is that in the Wei scenario the siege ramps
get set up almost instantaneously when they reach the moat. Here they take
friggin forever to set up. If anyone knows a way to make the ramps set up any
faster please let me know. Now that I have that out of my system it\'s time to
move on to the walkthrough.

From the start you will need to choose to protect either the siege ramps at
the west gate or the ones at the east gate. There are too many enemies here
to protect them both. Be careful not to hit the siege ramps while you\'re
fighting, as you _can_ destroy them with your own attacks. During this time
there will be several waves of ambush parties appearing that will head for
the ramps and try to destroy them. Actually ambush parties appear
continuously during the entire battle. I\'m not sure if there is a way to stop
them from appearing, but they shouldn\'t be a factor once a ramp gets set up.
Just stick by the ramp and take out everyone that gets near it. Eventually
the ramp will get set up (though it will take quite a while for this to
happen). Once a ramp is up, head on it and annihilate the Wei generals
inside. Note that a supply team will appear from the northeast and head for
the east castle gate. Taking it out before it reaches the castle will prevent
a few more reinforcements from appearing in the castle, but it\'s not really
necessary for victory.

[Battle of Shi Ting] (Wu Forces)
Difficulty: ******
\"Bonus\": Tricking Cao Xiu here causes him to appear at He Fei.

Keep away from Cao Xiu and Zhou Fang. Also be sure to avoid entering the Wei
encampment to the south, as this will alert Cao Xiu to the ploy and cause
heavy enemy reinforcements to appear to the north. Needless to say this
_will_ end up killing Lu Xun, so stay away from that area. If you didn\'t know
already Zhou Fang is a Wu mole and will lure Cao Xiu into an ambush to the
north. Unfortunately, Jia Kui seems to be on to this and will attempt to
alert Cao Xiu. Prevent this by eliminating him immediately. Strangely enough
Zhu Huan doesn\'t seem to be aware of the plan and will engage Cao Xiu. While
this is unfortunate, you will need to let him get killed for the plan to
succeed. Once he is dead, Cao Xiu will head for the Wu base, whereupon he
will fall straight into an ambush. At this point Zhou Fang will rejoin the Wu
forces. Go ahead and kill Cao Xiu, but resist the urge to charge the Wei base
just yet. Cao Zhang and Man Chong will appear west of the Wu base to launch a
surprise attack, along with Han Hao who will come from the east. Head back
and take them all out, then head for the Wei base and eliminate Zhang He.
Xiahou Dun will arrive as reinforcements, but at this point nothing is going
to help Sima Yi now.

[Battle of He Fei] (Wu Forces)
Difficulty: ******

Sun Jian will be lured across the bridge from the start of the battle, where
he will be promptly ambushed. If you previously cleared Fan Castle two
generals will arrive to assist Sun Jian. Otherwise go ahead and rescue him.
When he jumps back across the gap to safety, proceed to methodically defeat
the Wei generals one by one. Zhang He and Xu Huang will appear to reinforce
the enemy, but Lu Xun and Gan Ning will to help out as well. If Fan Castle
was taken Sun Shang Xiang will appear with a catapult unit as well. The one
threat you will need to be aware of is the appearance of Zhang Liao to the
west of the Wu camp. You\'ll definitely know when this happens. He will cut a
path through the Wu forces on his way to Sun Jian, so head back and intercept
him ASAP. When he\'s been dealt engage the remaining Wei generals, then head
for Cao Cao himself at He Fei Castle.

----------------
Wu - Tales
Dong Zhuo lives!
----------------

Requirements: Clear less than 10 stages. In Act II, at the Battle of Hu Lao
Gate allow Dong Zhuo to escape. With The fall of Wei as Act V, select the
Battle of He Fei first.

[Battle of Chang Jiang] (Wu Forces)
Difficulty: *****

Your greatest priority here is to ensure the survival to the supply teams
here. If more than 10 are killed the battle will end in defeat. So it would
be in your best interest that the area between the entry point and ship be
cleared of enemies at all times. The supply teams are very weak and will get
slaughtered by elephants so keep that in mind. Yes, you heard me right.

No, you\'re not seeing things. Those are elephants headed your way, and they
_will_ smash through all the spike barriers you have there. Right off the bat
take out all of the nearby enemies, especially the ones on elephants. Once
the supply area is cleared head south and take on Li Jue and Guo Si. From the
looks of things it looks like Meng Huo has teamed up with Dong Zhuo. Do not
engage Dong Zhuo yet. Once Li Jue and Guo Si are defeated an ambush will
appear back at the supply depot. Go back and clear out the enemies again.
Once the coast is clear head north and take on Li Su, Dong Min, and Li Ru.
Sun Ce should arrive to help clear out the area. Once all three are defeated,
head back south and help out there. During this time Meng Huo and Zhu Rong
will arrive north of the supply depot. Head back up there and take them out
ASAP. Once they are both defeated you can breathe a bit easier. Sun Quan
should arrive to help things out. Clear the enemies out together until you
reach Dong Zhuo, who is riding on his shiny new elephant. He\'ll usually
charge straight for you when he sees you, so fire an arrow and knock him off.
Then proceed to put an end to him once and for all.

Wu - Final Act
The End of the Three Kingdoms
-----------------------------

If The fall of Shu was the scenario for Act V, the stages under The fall of
Wei will appear here, and vice versa. After clearing the third stage, the
final stage depends on the scenario for Act V.

[Battle of Cheng Du] (Wu Forces)
Difficulty: ******
This will be the final Wu stage if Act V was The Fall of Wei.

This stage is identical to the final Wei vs Shu battle with a few exceptions.
The southern bridge will be destroyed in an event, but a bridgelayer will
appear later to replace it. Wei Yan does not appear so you can\'t get his
defection event. Battering rams will not appear to assault the castle as they
did for Wei. Arbalest units will also attack you inside of the castle.

[Battle of Xu Chang] (Wu Forces)
Difficulty: ******
This will be the final Wu stage if Act V was The Fall of Shu.

This stage is identical to the final Shu vs Wei battle.

------------------------------
Lu Bu - Act II
The Assassination of Dong Zhuo
------------------------------

[Lu Bu\'s Revolt] (Lu Bu\'s Forces)
Difficulty: ***

This is a fun stage where Lu Bu and Diao Chan team up together to annhilate
Dong Zhuo\'s forces. There isn\'t really any strategy here. Just go around and
kill all of Dong Zhuo\'s generals as you encounter them. On the way back
you\'ll have to deal with several ambushes, but it\'s nothing you can\'t handle,
especially if you\'re using Lu Bu. Note that defeating all generals and
triggering all of the ambushes here is necessary to obtain Lu Bu\'s fourth
ending.

--------------------
Lu Bu - Act III
The Villain\'s Demise
--------------------

[Battle of Xia Pi] (Lu Bu\'s Forces)
Difficulty: ****

Start things out by clearing out Cao Cao\'s forces east of the castle. Xu Zhu
and Xiahou Dun should be your first targets. Zhang Liao should arrive as
reinforcements. Go and take care of him too. Lu Bu should send out his
daughter in a carriage to parley with Yuan Shu. If you\'re playing as Lu Bu go
ahead and escort the carriage just to be safe. This will ensure that Yuan Shu
arrives later as reinforcements, but if you\'re fast enough you can take out
everyone before they even arrive. Note that unlike Cao Cao\'s scenario, Red
Hare is available at the island from the start. Go ahead and take him. He\'ll
provide a morale boost to Lu Bu\'s forces. With Red Hare\'s help you can easily
mop up the remaining generals. Xu Huang and Cao Zhang should arrive to back
up Cao Cao, but they should not be any problem.

[Campaign against Cao Cao] (Lu Bu\'s Forces)
Difficulty: ****

Cao Cao has some tricks up his sleeve, but it\'s not going to be enough to
stop Lu Bu. From the start you can either head for Xiahou Yuan or Cao Ren.
Since Cao Ren is a bit closer you might as well start with him. Head for the
castle and kill everyone that dares to stand in your way. There are a lot of
enemies in the castle, but they\'re not going to stop you from killing Cao
Ren. Once he\'s gone head on over to Xiahou Yuan. Xiahou Yuan will begin to
retreat. This should give you a clue as to what he\'s planning. Yes, it\'s
another lame ambush. Kill Yue Jin and then finish off Xiahou Yuan. From here
you can head straight for Guan Du Castle or go and finish off the remaining
Wei generals. I usually opt for the latter. Cao Pi should not be a problem.
Xu Huang will appear in an ambush (the same if you have taken this route),
but he\'s not a problem either. Once all of the opposition outside of the
castle is dealt with it\'s time to head inside. Dian Wei will engage you the
moment you step in, and Cao Cao will shut the gates trapping you inside.
Xiahou Dun will appear outside the castle, but he won\'t cause too much damage
if all the other generals are gone. You can easily defeat the gate captain to
open the doors and head back to kill him. Once all of the Wei generals are
dead head back to the castle and clear out all the sub generals for some
tasty power ups before you finish off Cao Cao once and for all.

---------------------
Lu Bu - Final Act
The Mightiest Warrior
---------------------

[Campaign against Sun Jian] (Lu Bu\'s Forces)
Difficulty: *****

Despite what your strategist tells you, take your time with his one. Sun Jian
isn\'t going anywhere (well, actually he is, but you get what I mean). Your
first priority is to take out Lu Meng, Zhou Tai, and Lu Su (or Sun Quan
depending on which scenario you are playing) _before_ you enter the castle
where Sun Jian is. If you don\'t you will regret it. Once they are all taken
out, go ahead and enter the castle. No one\'s home huh? This of course is a
ruse. Sun Jian will appear behind you all the way back at base camp. Gan
Ning, Sun Ce, and Sun Shang Xiang will also appear to the west, center, and
east respectively. You can safely ignore Sun Shang Xiang. She won\'t even move
from her spot. Gan Ning on the other hand has no problem in raising hell. The
gates leading to their areas are closed, unfortunately. So you\'ll have to
take the exits to the sides of the castle to reach them. I would highly
recommend dealing with Gan Ning first. Head for the west gate of the castle
and take out the gate captain (and the sun general on the other side if you
like). Head straight for Gan Ning and defeat him. This will open the gates
that were closed previously. Next head for Sun Shang Xiang. She will put up
token resistance before she falls. Finally head for that annoying Sun Ce and
shut him up once and for all. When all of the Wu generals are gone you can
head for Sun Jian and put an end to the Sun family once and for all.

[Campaign against Liu Bei] (Lu Bu\'s Forces)
Difficulty: *****

Oh boy. This one is a whole lot of fun, and I don\'t mean that in a good way.
Both Guan Yu and Zhang Fei are seriously powered up for this battle, and
taking them out will not be easy. Start things out by engaging Guan Yu first.
Guan Ping should be nearby as well, as should several archers. You might want
to take out all the archers first as having your attacks interrupted by them
is not good when dealing with Guan Yu. Once Guan Yu is gone (or if you\'re too
slow in defeating him), Huang Zhong will appear nearby. Deal with him as
well. Note that during this time you may get a message that enemy scouts have
been detected to the northeast. When you get this message break off whatever
you are doing and head up to intercept them. Mi Fang should be wandering
around. Take him out ASAP. Once you defeat him he will be sent back to the
enemy to spread misinformation. Go back and defeat the remaining generals on
the west side of the castle before heading towards the east side.

According to Nanaki, you can defeat Mi Fang multiple times for even more
events. After his third or fourth defeat Mi Fang will surrender to your
forces.

Zhang Fei is waiting for you, and chances are good that he will challenge you
to a duel for killing Guan Yu. Like his oath brother previously, Zhang Fei is
also seriously powered up. Once Zhang Fei is gone (or if you\'re too slow in
defeating him) Ma Chao will arrive nearby. To make matters worse Mi Zhu will
also appear to the southwest to take out the entry point there. Quickly
defeat the generals in the area before heading there. Zhao Yun will
eventually appear to the east. Fortunately, this will be the last of the
reinforcements. When both Guan Yu and Zhang Fei are defeated, Liu Bei will
become enraged and open all the castle gates in order to attack you. Ignore
him for now and defeat the other generals first. Mi Zhu will have probably
cleared the entry point by the time you get near him. Note that Wei Yan has
snuck in from the north while you were busy. Go and take him out after you
deal with Mi Zhu. When all of the Shu generals are dead, head back and take
Liu Bei out. He will be powered up so it won\'t be easy. But by this time you
should have a completely blue morale bar and have lots of help (i.e. allies
to distract him with while you hit him from behind).

-----------------------
Nanman - Act I
Invasion from the North
-----------------------

[The Nanman Campaign] (Nanman Forces)
Difficulty: **

Compared to the Shu and Wu campaigns, this battle is ridiculously easy. None
of the generals here present any problems, and you don\'t have to worry about
elephants smacking you around, poisonous water, or the climate this time
around. The only thing you need to be aware of is that Ma Su will make a
break for it to launch some nefarious scheme of Zhuge Liang. Unfortunately, I
have no idea what that is, since I usually eliminate him before he ever gets
a chance to implement it. Kill him anyway. It\'s good for the soul. Okay, it
seems many people have written in to tell me that if Ma Su isn\'t stopped the
Shu forces will launch a fire attack against Wu Tugu and annihilate him.
Thanks to everyone (you know who you are) for writing in. Ma Dai will show up
near the Shu camp as reinforcements, but he\'s little more than a speed bump.
When all of the Shu generals are defeated Zhuge Liang will retreat. Score one
for the Nanman tribes.

---------------

[Battle of Cheng Du] (Nanman Forces)
Difficulty: *****

This stage is identical to the final Wei vs Shu and Wu vs Shu battle with a
few exceptions. Wei Yan does not appear here so you can\'t get his defection
event. Instead Zhu Bao will defect if you defeat his two sub generals.

Wu Tugu must survive this battle to obtain Nanman\'s fourth endings.

Yuan Shao - Act III
The Villain\'s Demise
--------------------

[Battle of Guan Du] (Yuan Shao\'s Forces)
Difficulty: ****

With your help Yuan Shao will have no problem winning this battle. Start
things out by helping Yan Liang take Bai Ma Castle. Guan Yu will appear to
challenge you, and he\'s not exactly a slouch in the combat department.
Fortunately, he\'s just about the hardest part of this battle, so when you
defeat him you\'ve pretty much won the battle. Note that defeating Guan Yu
here is necessary to obtain Yuan Shao\'s fourth ending. When Bai Ma Castle
falls go ahead and help Wen Chou take out Yan Jin castle. Cao Cao will pull
his troops back around Guan Du Castle.

When you reach Guan Du Castle the ram unit will appear to break down the
walls. Despite what Yuan Shao says, ignore the rams and head east
immediately, as that sneaky Cao Cao has sent Li Dian to attack Wu Chao
compound while you\'re occupied with the siege. Fortunately for Yuan Shao
you\'re reading this so you know better. If you follow his trail along the
east route an ambush will occur and a lot of archers will appear so be
careful. Li Dian will ignore combat completely and make a mad dash for Wu
Chao. This also means that he won\'t bother blocking attacks, so if you manage
to knock him down get ready to give him everything you\'ve got when he stands
back up. Once Li Dian is taken care of go ahead and chase after the task
leader that was with him. He should have reached the compound by now, so head
there and annihilate everyone in the vicinity. Once Cao Cao realizes that his
ploy has failed, head back to Guan Du Castle to see the rams bring the house
down, literally. Cao Cao\'s generals will scatter like ants coming out of a
disturbed nest, and you\'ll be there to stomp on them all. Once you\'ve dealt
with all of them, go ahead and squash Cao Cao as well.

------------------------------
Act I
The Alliance against Dong Zhuo
------------------------------

These stages are identical to the ones in the previous Musou Modes.

[Battle of Si Shui Gate] (Dong Zhuo\'s Forces)
Difficulty: **

This stage is pretty much the same as it was for the allied forces. Shortly
after the battle begins a messenger will be sent by Sun Jian to Yuan Shu.
Eliminating the messenger will isolate Sun Jian from the allies, whereupon
you can easily crush him. Other than this event, the battle is pretty much
straightforward. Note that defeating Cao Cao, Liu Bei, and Sun Jian (after Li
Jue announces his withdrawal from battle) is necessary to obtain Dong Zhuo\'s
fourth ending.

[Battle of Hu Lao Gate] (Dong Zhuo\'s Forces)
Difficulty: **

The allied forces start right in front of Hu Lao Gate so you have your work
cut out for you. Guan Yu, Xiahou Dun, and Huang Gai will immediately attack
you inside the gate. Diao Chan will arrive to help but don\'t expect much from
her. Once all of the generals are dealt with the real battle begins. Outside
of the gate Liu Bei, Cao Cao, and Sun Jian await you with their respective
armies. Once Sun Jian is defeated Yuan Shao\'s camp will be spotted in the
distance. This will trigger the arrival of Yuan Shao\'s champions Wen Chou to
the north and Yan Liang to the south. They will both converge on your
location in the center. When the center area is finally cleared of
opposition, feel free to go after Yuan Shu and Gongsun Zan before heading for
Yuan Shao. The heavy snow will reduce visibility drastically so make good use
of your mini map.

--------------
Final Act
Lu Bu\'s Revolt
--------------

[Lu Bu\'s Revolt] (Dong Zhuo\'s Forces)
Difficulty: *****

This is a rather strange climax to Dong Zhuo\'s Musou Mode. Your initial task
is to clear the gate captains here to cut off Lu Bu\'s escape. You will
encounter Lu Bu early on in the battle, but he will withdraw when he sees
Diao Chan. Strangely enough, he will have no problems hitting her when he
comes back. Make a break for the gate captains and take them all out.
Interestingly, Lu Bu will still be wandering around the halls. I was
expecting maybe some sort of climactic duel between the two. Or maybe I
haven\'t yet figured out all of the triggers. In either case, you might as
well go ahead and fight him to the death. If there\'s anything else I\'ve
missed please let me know about it.

+=========================+
Yellow Turban Musou Mode
+=========================+

----------------
Act I
The Han is dead!
----------------

[The Yellow Turban Fortress] (Yellow Turbans)
Difficulty: **

This stage is similar to the other versions, except that all three Zhang
brothers are present. Zhang Liang will man the fort with the phantom ghosts,
while Zhang Bao is at the wind station. Zhu Jun will lead the attack from the
northeast castle, while Liu Bei, Cao Cao, and Sun Jian begin their attacks.
This is a straightforward battle. Head up to the fort and take out Liu Bei
and Cao Cao. Sun Jian will probably head for Zhang Liang so you might have to
play catch up with him. When all three are defeated head back to take on Zhu
Jun. Han reinforcements will arrive in the north, but they won\'t be much of a
factor.

[Campaign Against Liu Bei] (Yellow Turbans)
Difficulty: **

This stage is identical to the one in Lu Bu\'s Musou Mode, except that Zhao
Yun replaces Zhang Fei. Also there is an event where Zhang Bao and Zhang
Liang will drop a boulder into the river, \"befuddling\" Liu Bei\'s forces.

-----------------------------
Act II
Long live the Yellow Turbans!
-----------------------------

[Campaign against Sun Jian] (Yellow Turbans)
Difficulty: ***

This stage is identical to the one in Lu Bu\'s Musou Mode.

--------------------
Act III
The new age is near!
--------------------

[The Yellow Turban Menace] (Yellow Turbans)
Difficulty: ****

Huangfu Song will be holed up in the castle while Cao Cao, Liu Bei, and Sun
Jian guard the west, south, and east gates respectively. There isn\'t any
heavy strategy here. Just straight up fighting. When two of the three
generals are defeated Huangfu Song will retreat via the north gate and head
for the east entry point.

[Campaign against Cao Cao] (Yellow Turbans)
Difficulty: ****

This stage is identical to the one in Lu Bu\'s Musou Mode.

--------------------------
Final Act
The world will know peace!
--------------------------

[The Yellow Turban Rebellion] (Yellow Turbans)
Difficulty: *****

Now this stage is just plain crazy. Liu Bei, Cao Cao, and Sun Jian team up to
try and wipe you out once and for all. They won\'t appear at first, but they
will arrive as you defeat generals. Expect for Yuan Shao to pay a visit as
well. You may find it puzzling that the stage doesn\'t end after you defeat He
Jin. That\'s because the requirement for victory is to defeat all generals
that appear. Dong Zhuo will arrive in the north at your camp when He Jin is
defeated. You\'ll have to go all the way up the mountain to get to him. After
a period of time (or if you defeat Dong Zhuo) Lu Bu will appear to join the
party. Once Dong Zhuo and Lu Bu are both defeated, the stage will finally end
and the Yellow Turbans will finally have victory. Note that all allied
generals must survive the battle to obtain Yellow Turban\'s fourth ending.

Unique Character Events
+========================+

There are several events in the game that are unique for each character.
Collect them all! =)

[Battle of Si Shui Gate] (Allied Forces)

When Yuan Shao asks if there is anyone who can defeat Hua Xiong, go and
defeat him. In an event Yuan Shao will ask who defeated him and your
character will announce that they did.

When a character takes over the supply depot, they will make a remark about
giving supplies to Sun Jian.

[Battle of Chan Ban] (Liu Bei\'s Forces)

When Liu Chan is discovered in the fortress, go and get him while riding a
horse. An event will show your character receiving Liu Chan.

When your character destroys the bridges leading across the river they will
make a comment about it.

Onikirimaru465 writes in to mention that there is a second event you can
trigger here if you get the enemy to follow you to the bridge on the left
side of the map. I haven\'t confirmed this as of yet.

[Campaign for Cheng Du] (Liu Bei\'s Forces)

When Ma Chao appears as reinforcements, defeat him and your character will
try to persuade him to join with Liu Bei.

[Battle of Mt. Ding Jun] (Wei Forces)

When your character encounters Huang Zhong they will have a conversation.

[Battle of Wu Zhang Plains]

(Shu Forces)

When you get close to Sima Yi your character will begin taunting him.

(Wei Forces)

When you take over the supply depot your character will proclaim victory.

[Battle of Xia Pi] (Cao Cao\'s Forces)

When the rockslide blocks the river current your character will order the
attack to proceed.

[Lu Bu\'s Offensive] (Cao Cao\'s Forces)

If you manage to trap Lu Bu inside of the castle and succeed with the fire
attack, your character will have a coverstation when they encounter Lu Bu
again.

[The Two Qiaos] (Sun Jian\'s Forces)
While this isn\'t an event, your character will mention rescuing the two Qiaos
at the start of the stage.

[The Imperial Seal] (Sun Jian\'s Forces)

When your character find the Imperial Seal they will make a comment about it.

[Assault on Liu Biao] (Sun Jian\'s Forces)

When you confront Liu Biao, your character will explain why they are
fighting.

[Campaign for the Wu Territory] (Sun Jian\'s Forces)

When you defeat Taishi Ci, your character will try to convince him to join
Sun Ce.

[Defense of Nanman] (Sun Jian\'s Forces)

While this isn\'t an event, when your character obtains an elephant they will
make a remark about it. Kidd writes in to mention that there is an event here
you can trigger if you destroy an archer tower (structure) in the upper left
corner of the map with the elephant.
