This game is totally different from the games I usually play (I always play RPG's and Action- Adventure games, and some spying games like Splinter Cell). This game rocks, it's different of all the games Capcom has been making, and you'll surely fall in love with the main character. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this game and guide as much as I did. So with this little said, let us begin. Now allow me to take note on some things: - My walkthrough is pretty dry to me. I'm writing this for free and because I enjoyed this game, but than "enjoyed", I love it. If you are looking for tons of eloquent ways for me to say "enter here and kill the enemies", you are going to be so disappointed. This guide is way, way too big to begin with, and lofty language does not help. - If you take a quick scan thru my guide, you won't find the explanations for battling system, saving-loading, etc. Why, you ask? Well, because the game manual and in-game tutorials do a perfect job explaining the everything. - The spoilers are great issues in making guides. I am a player of the game, just like you are. The first time I played through this game was completely by myself. I didn't use any guides, therefore nothing was spoiled for me. All the story's ups and downs that were supposed to surprise me had such effect. And I really think it's not fair spoiling such story elements to you. With all this said, let's start with the guide! Enjoy this guide and remember that it is a spoiler-free, so you don't have to worry about important info of the game being spoiled. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =-=-=-=- 1.1] Contact Rules ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ sx101 -=-=-=-= =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Any critiques, suggestions, spelling mistakes, contributions are welcome, so please send them at the following e-mail: --> [email protected] <-- I always reply to all the mails I get, since feedback is the best reward of all, but please put a tag in the subject, saying it's DQ8 related, otherwise, I might not reply. He grew rapidly. Within a short time he gained his full powers and took into the Devil Throne. His first act as a ruler of all devils was to declare himself emperor of the Devil Kingdom. His next feat was an invasion of the human world. His plan was to conquer it and rule over both the lower and upper realms. But a powerful devil-knight known as Sparda took pity on humans for their brief, transient lives. In fierce battles he defeated all the Devil ruler's armies and finally imprisoned him in a sealed vault. Having achieved his victory, Sparda abandoned the Devil Kingdom to live in the human world. He married a human woman and soon fathered a half devil, half man son. But beware, mankind. After 2000 years, the cursed Devil Emperor will be released and will return to invade the human world once again. Might be a little late, but let me tell you about this room. There are three floors in this main hall, and two doors; one is sealed with a "red seal" (these need Red Orbs in order to open up), and the other is locked. So start checking the whole main hall and getting all the Red Orbs. There are 45 Red Orbs in total, but there are 100 secret Red Orbs. See the horse and knight statue in middle of the room? Go on top the horse's head and jump on top the Halberd. It may look impossible, but it is possible. Pay 45 Red Orbs to the Sealed Door to go to the next room. In here, break the armors at the left side of the room to get 'Blue Orb Fragment', now enter the door. Break all the objects here to find some Red Orbs. Now go in the door and follow the staircase to the next floor, then enter the next door. In here, jump in the left pool to find yet another 'Blue Orb Fragment', which should be your fourth, incrementing your Vitality by 10%. Return to the previous room and jump to the third floor through the hole in the roof you're shown in the little scene. On top, check the red puppet and get 'Rusty Key' from it's hand. When you try walking away, the puppet awakes, revealing a Bloody Mary and another Marionette. This is your very first fight, so try any moves you want. When you go to the previous floor, the Marionette awakes to and attacks you. Go to the Main Hall and use the Rusty Key you just got to open the left door. In here, you'll see several Marionettes sleeping, but won't awake just yet. Instead, go to the top of the airplane and get another 'Blue Orb Fragment'. Also, stay put on top of the propeller to have some Red Orbs come down. Now go to the far corner of the room to find two armors hiding a clock-like with glyphs. Hit it until it fills the little glyphs. Once you descend, kill the Marionettes that appear and when the wooden gates open for a second wave, check for the Marionette that has a Shotgun (it's not 100% sure to appear every time, but just try looking for it, because he's the most dangerous Marionette). He can take a good chunk of damage off of you, so take it out quick. Return to the Airplane Room and kill all the Marionettes that you saw "sleeping" before. Once you're done, enter the red double doors shown in the scene and finish the first Mission. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =-=-=-=- 4.2] Mission 02: Judge of Death ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ sx402 -=-=-=-= =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= "Open the door of the cathedral." o- Item Checklist: ------------o----------------------------------------------o | | | Obtainable Weapons...Alastor | From where you start, go up and enter the | Shotgun | door next to the painting. Afterwards, examine the sword stuck in the wall to trigger a really kick ass scene. You'll receive Alastor, a sword with lightning elemental. Finally say bye-bye to Force Edge, forever. Anyway, enter the door that's before where Alastor was. In this library-type room, break the objects on the second floor to find the 'Shotgun'. Now examine the painting the with a blue shine to get a 'Rusty Key'. Remember the double doors that were to your left when you were fighting the Marionettes? It's in middle of the hall. Go there and open the door to reach a fountain yard. You'll be greeted by a lot of Marionettes, so have fun with them. Also, the Alastor and Shotgun make a deadly combination against the Marionettes, so they'll be easier than before, if that's possible. Also, step on top of the fountain to get some Red Orbs. Now enter the door at the right hand on the second floor. A seal will appear over the door; these White Sealed Doors mean that you need to kill all enemies in order to lift up the seal. When you're over with them, hit some kind of golden coffin to reveal a secret path. Grab the 'Staff of Judgement' and a path will open. Try leaving the room and a new enemy appears to attack you, the Sin Scissors (one of my best friends, Ed, says that these are his girlfriends... why?... I don't know... he has some bizarre tastes in women... lol). I think there are three of them, so to make this quick, just shoot them with the Shotgun. Beware that if your near them when they die, you might get hit by the scissors they have. Anyway, equip the Handguns and exit the room. You'll see several mini spiders running around, use the Handguns to kill them, because each one gives a whooping 1 Red Orb (wow... o_o). Now use the Staff of Judgement on the statue where Alastor was to end the Mission. Before starting the next mission, make sure to buy Alastor's Stinger-level 1 skill, because it'll prove to be SO useful in the next mission. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =-=-=-=- 4.3] Mission 03: Destroyer of Ardor ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ sx403 -=-=-=-= =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= "Overcome the trial and acquire the "Pride of Lion"." o- Item Checklist: ------------o----------------------------------------------o | _ | | Obtainable Weapons.......[_] | Hope you bought Stinger-level 1. It'll break the curse that | | was set on the door, so take them to reach a o------------------------------o bridge. Before anything, jump on top of the arch above the door you just used to get some Red Orbs. Afterwards, go to the end of the bridge, get the Red orbs and examine the object in the middle. Once it says something about sending you to the Abyss, return just to be stroked by lightning. Once underwater (I think we are underwater), move to the open area, but quickly, because Dante's health is decreasing. Step on the black mirror-like thing to have a new enemy appear, the Sargasso. There are six of them, so take them all out with the Shotgun. Afterwards, get the Green Orb left by the last Sargasso and exit this water cage through the light pillar. Once out and safe, return to the top of the arch above the doors (where you got the secret Red Orbs from before) and Stinger towards the nothingness to reach a floating piece of bridge and have a 'Blue Orb Fragment' drop out of nowhere. Now jump from platform to platform back to where you examined the mirror-thing in the middle. There's another 'Blue Orb Fragment' over here, so that's another complete Blue Orb. If you can't do it, just jump into the ocean, kill the Sargasso and leave the cage to appear at the other side of the bridge. Now enter the Cathedral and examine the 'Pride of Lion' to obtain it. Also a scene triggers in where a spider named Phantom appears to have some fun with you. ----------------------- Boss #1 - Phantom (1st) ----------------------- Ok, Phantom is easy, if you know how to deal with it. People say it's too difficult, but I say the complete opposite. Just stay close to him and always having R1 pressed. Shoot him with your Shotgun at all time and whenever you see that he's going to attack you, jump backwards to evade the attack. Whenever you see him jump backwards, he's about to use a fireball attack. To counter this (this is why I told you to stay close to it and to buy Stinger), once he's preparing the fireball, Stinger him in the mouth to make him swallow the fireball and receiving more extra damage. Also he has an attack where he hides his head underground. Start running without stopping and all the fire pillars will miss. Also remember to use the Devil Trigger, because he's faster and more dangerous this way. ----------------------- After the scene, return to the bridge and drop down into the water to trigger the very first Secret Mission. .:*' Secret Mission 1 - Critical Hit '*:. -- "Aim for its weak point and defeat it with one single shot." -- This Secret Mission is kinda hard. You have to kill the Sin Scissor in one attack. Wait until he's in front of you. When he's about to attack you, hit him with Alastor to break his guard. When this happens, he'll down his scissors for a bit. Approach him as near as you can and put a Shotgun bullet through his mask. If you killed him in one shot, you did it. Now return to where you defeated Phantom and go through the doors to return to the hallway and end this mission. Please, if you can afford it, buy Alastor's Air Raid. There are a bunch right where you enter (like 60), at the left side of the door that leads to the bridge are more (like 30) and at the other side of the room (where the Pride of Lion was) are more. Once you kill them all, return to the entrance to receive your reward. If you start running down the hallway, you'll have Phantom chasing you. If you want to kill it, keep running until you get to the end of the hallway. If not, get in the door that leads to the fountain that is almost next to you, then return to the hallway and complete the third Secret Mission. If you decided to kill Phantom, keep reading. If not, skip to where you see [~~~]. As you run down the hallway, Phantom will start shooting fireballs at you. Jump just a bit before he releases it. When you get to the end of the hallway, use your Devil Trigger, jump and use Air Raid. You can kill it with just 4 Symbols, so do so. Once you've killed it, you'll receive 500 Red Orbs. [~~~] Now go in the room that has the Divinity Statue to trigger another Secret Mission. .:*' Secret Mission 3 - Phantom Babies II '*:. -- "Defeat 100 Phantom Babies within the time limit without using any weapons". -- This Secret Mission is exactly the same as the previous one, only that you can't use any weapons. What to do...? What to do...? Use your DT and start running through the room until you kill them all. By the way, you have 20 seconds to do it. Alright, another fragment of a Blue Orb. Finally, go in the door where the fountain is and examine the purple wall of light and use the Pride of Lion. Destroy the statue behind the barrier to have a new type of enemy appear... the Shadow. Beware, after the small scene, evade the attack, or it'll hurt and a lot. To kill this type of enemy, shoot it with your Handguns while evading it's attacks until you see that an Orb appears above it. Once this happens, use the DT and start attacking this "core" with sword attacks. Keep this until the Shadow starts flashing red. At this point, it's going to kill itself, but it's going to try and take you with it. Just evade it's attacks until it dies. Before anything, return to the Airplane room and go to the area where you fought 2 waves of Marionettes in Mission 1, to trigger Secret Mission 4. .:*' Secret Mission 4 - The Three Beasts '*:. -- "Fight the Shadow. You only have one chance". -- Ok, this is one of the hardest Secret Mission of the entire game. There're really not much to say. Just try and keep focused on one Shadow at a time, using the strategy I told you before. Once the first one is gone, it should be a bit easier, since you only have two Shadows to worry about, instead of three. Keep the same strategy with the other 2 and you eventually win. Please note, however, that if you're killed in this Secret Mission, is game over, so use your Vital Star (if you have any) if you need to. After the battle, return to where you fought your first Shadow and enter the door that was shown to you in the scene after killing the Shadow. In here, go to the top, then jump on the platform right next to you and grab 'Death Sentence'. You might have passed a double door. Return to it and open it. Once in here, jump on top of the bed to receive some Red Orbs. Now examine the statue with a golden glow and use the Death Sentence to receive "Melancholy Soul", then trigger a scene. Now go outside and jump down to trigger a fight with Nelo Angelo. --------------------------- Boss #2 - Nelo Angelo (1st) --------------------------- Nelo Angelo... what can I say about him? He has some attacks similar to Dante's. Once he jumps off the building, run to him and attack him. If you're attacking and he blocks, jump backwards or roll over. When charging an Energy Ball, get away from him and try rolling out of the way. When you've dealt 1/3 of his HP, he'll teleport to a higher platform. Same deal here, except that the space that you have to fight is reduced significantly. Once you've dealt 2/3 of it's HP, he'll move to an even higher place. So follow him just to find out that the space is smaller, but that's not it. The camera angle up here sucks, so it's really hard to keep a good eye on him. --------------------------- Once you're done with him, a scene triggers and the Mission Ends. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= =-=-=-=- 4.5] Mission 05: Guiding of the Soul ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ sx405 -=-=-=-= =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= "Go to the destination before the power of the "Melancholy Soul" fades away." o- Item Checklist: ------------o----------------------------------------------o | _ | | Obtainable Weapons.......[_] | Of, maybe the shortest Mission of all DMC | Blue Orb Fragments....... _1 | games. Now go down the hole, enter the room where Nelo appeared, exit through the other door and in the main tower, jump to the bottom and insert the Melancholy Soul in the door to end this mission. Otherwise, keep following the path until a little scene kicks in and you'll have to fight another new enemy, the Death Scissors. This is the second hardest normal enemy in the game, IMO. Air Raid is your best ally for this fight, because with 5 Rune Symbols, you can take almost half oh Phantoms health. He really isn't that hard, so go for it with all you've got. ----------------------- Watch the scene after the battle and when you regain control, instead of dropping through the path behind the gate, use Stinger to get a 'Blue Orb Fragment'. Also stand on the little pillar on the right side for some Red Orbs. Now grab the 'Trident' and go down the hole in between the horses. Hit the shining lever to open a path. Go to it and before going down, grab the 'Grenadegun' and go down. You'll be in a very familiar room. Before exiting, use the Trident on the artifact in between the pools to have a gate open in the room below, but you have time so, run like the wind, using the DT. A good weapon to use against these is the Grenadegun, so fire at will. Now, from the entrance, follow the upper right path to find a lone tombstone. Hit it several times to reveal a 'Blue Orb Fragment'. Now locate the path that has blue lights that leads to an opened gate. Before entering the gate, go left, up the structure there to find a 'Holy Water. Now go in the gate. At the top of the area, get a 'Devil Star' from the left side and a 'Yellow Orb' from the right side. Now go to the center of this walkway and hit the clock here to activate several moving platforms. Move through them with a lot of caution, because you'll get so pissed off when you fall. Once you reach the top, examine the spark to trigger a kick ass scene and receive the Devil's Arms 'Ifrit'. Return now to the previous area to trigger a scene and then a Boss Fight. ----------------------- Boss #4 - Griffon (1st) ----------------------- Griffon... easiest boss of all the game. The best way to damage it is with either the Handguns or the Grenadegun. Also Air Raid is a very good thing to use against Griffon. When he gets knocked out, approach him and use DT to kick the hell out of it, using Alastor of course. There's really not much to say about Griffon, but time well his attacks so you can anticipate them, evade them and then attack him. ----------------------- After the fight, follow the upper right path (has blue lights, just like the previous path) and hit the right side of the door with Ifrit to open the door. In this forest-like room, before anything, move towards you left (yours, not Dante's) and try wall jumping to a platform above for some Red Orbs, but more importantly, a 'Holy Water'. Return to the floor and follow the path, try opening the door to trigger a rather spooky scene. A new enemy appears before you, the Fetish. It's pretty similar to the Marionettes, but stronger. Also look for a broken tree in middle of the area. Jump on it to find some hidden Red Orbs. Now enter the door and when you get to some stairs, jump over the ledge on your left to find a stone that has Red Orbs. Hit it, hit it, hit it... until it breaks. Also break the tombstone to find a 'Devil Star' behind it. The door that you need to use to continue with the story has a red seal, so pay up 200 Red Orbs to go in and finish this mission. Yep, that's it. Once inside, where the Death Scythe is, how to kill it? Ok, I've discovered a very good way, easy and quick to kill him. Stand still, with the Shotgun in one hand and Alastor on the other. Keep pressed R1 to keep track of where he is. Good so far? (I've barely said anything... lol) Start shooting at him over and over and you'll notice that he'll start raising, little by little. Once he's at the top point, he'll do a freefall attack. Jump it and land with an attack (press X / [] while in midair). This way, you'll evade the attack, plus hurting him, a lot. Keep this tactic until he's dead. Afterwards, a moving platform will appear and start moving. Go to the top of the room, right above the door you used to get in here, to find a 'Devil Star'. Now go to the top most of the left side and find a glass floor. Go to the bottom of it to find a 'Blue Orb Fragment'. Now go in the well near the entrance door to be greeted by a lot of Blades. Kill them all, then break the wall near the Statue of Divinity to have more Blades come to play. If you kill them all, you'll receive a 'Blue Orb Fragment'. At the end of the path, grab the 'Sign of Chastity' and return to the first area. Go to the other side of the area and enter the bottom door. Use the Sign of Chastity to receive the 'Chalice'. The doors will lock again, and Nelo appears to try to kick your ass. --------------------------- Boss #5 - Nelo Angelo (2nd) --------------------------- Once again, Nelo Angelo. He has the same attacks as before, plus some more that look a lot like Dante's moves when he has Ifrit equipped. To me, he's easier than before. Also, a good strategy I used (and discovered while writing this), is to use Alastor, and while in Devil Form, attack him with the sword non stop, even if he blocks. This way, when you make him take his "shield" off, you'll keep hitting him, and staggering him, so do it Fast and Furious. Also, if your DT empties, use your Handguns to refill them, or Taunt Nelo using R2. --------------------------- After the scene, jump on top of the arches that are on both sides of the area, then Stinger to reach a platform. From here, use Stinger again to reach the other side of the area. Insert the Chalice to have a door open underneath you. Afterwards, go to the other side of the room and examine the spark to find the 'Needlegun', also examine the treasure chest behind the weapon to find a 'Devil Star'. Now you can finally kick some asses underwater. Now go down the stairs next to where the Needlegun was, kill the Blade and get some Red Orbs. Return upstairs and go up another 2 set of stairs to exit the ship. Ok now... you'll see three pillars on the deck. All three of them have hidden Red Orbs on several branches, so go get them all. Also, go to the top of the southern most pillar and from there, Stinger to the southern part of the deck to receive a 'Blue Orb Fragment'. Now examine the door that has two glowing swords crossed to trigger a little scene. A Death Scythe appears before you. Kill it the same way you killed the previous one. Now check the door again to trigger a spooky scene where the boat takes of. And uh-oh, a familiar face appears to play with you... or should I say 5 faces? ----------------------- Boss #6 - Griffon (2nd) ----------------------- Ok, Griffon got a lot harder this time. He almost starts all the time throwing a red bird-like thing that's connected to you and damage you each time it passes through you. You must shoot it as fast as you can (I really recommend the Handguns) to get rid of it. Also, when Griffon stands still on the deck, he'll be about to start another new attack where he'll throw lightning through the whole deck. In this area will be either Shadows, Blades (two and a huge black one) or a Death Scythe. Whichever they are, kill them or ignore them and do the following: Go in the first opening that you come across and has torches on each side. Go to the top, cross the bridge and go left to find a Red Orb Stone. Hit it until it breaks and then go right from the bridge to drop on a ledge with a 'Blue Orb Fragment'. Now jump to the bottom and enter the opening and pay 200 Red Orbs to enter the door. There are semi infinite Marionettes in the area, so fight as many as you like. After examining the skull, a Shadow will come out, so evade as soon as you have control. I really recommend using the Shotgun or if you're quick enough, the Handguns. Also use Ifrit with the Kick13 skill. Stay near the area where the Shadow came out from, so you don't awake the other 2 Shadows (they'll awake eventually) and start shooting at the Shadow until the core appears. Once this happens, use your DT and while in DT, use Kick13 to have Dante perform a quick ass combo. Do 2 times this combo on each Shadow. It should be easy enough. Now return to the start of the mission and run to the opposite side of the area (following the blue lights)to find a closed door. From here, there are two areas you need to go in. To the left is the blue room and to the right is the red room. I'll explain both, but in the first door you enter, you'll receive the Pair of Lances and the last door you enter will net you the Nightmare-?. Also, go in the Red Room and jump under the platform that has the Pair of Lances/Nightmare-? to have a Blue Orb Fragment appear. I'll write for both rooms, so here we go (I first entered the Red room and then the Red room): ..:: Red Room ::.. Go to the opposite of the room, grab the 'Luminite' from the stone to the right and kill the Fetish. This enables Dante to light a certain radius of the room (depends of where he is). Now go downstairs and kill another 2 Fetishes. Also break the cracked wall on the right side to find a lot of breakable objects which contain Red Orbs and a 'Yellow Orb'. Return to the hall where the Fetishes were and go in the door. There are no enemies here, but instead, there were 2 rune clocks placed, so hit them, being really cautious with the spikes. Anyway, the first door on your left leads to a path where your DT refills, so take advantage of it. Move to the end of the path, drop down, ignoring the paths you created. Kill both Blades and then start jumping under a little platform until you see a Blue Orb Fragment appear. Return to the top, cross the bridges to find a 'Pair of Lances' and the 'Blue Orb Fragment'. Now go out to have Sin Scythes appear instead of Blades/Kyklops. Now go in the Blue Door. ..:: Blue Room ::.. Go downstairs and kill 3 Fetishes. Also break the cracked wall on the left side to find a lot of breakable objects which contain Red Orbs, a 'Holy Water', and a 'Blue Orb Fragment'. Return to the hall where the Fetishes were and go in the door. There will be some Sin Scythes here to greet you, so dispose of them, but beware of the really tight space you have, as well as the moving floor and the spikes at the back and the ones coming out of the wall. Also, the "fountain" where you could recharge your DT is also here. When you get to the end, you'll see that floor has purple goo-like. You can use Air Raid to cross it and grab the 'Nightmare-?'. This weapon is my most hated and unused Firearm, why?! Because, when you charge it, it uses 3 complete DT Symbols, and the only thing it does is bounce. Now go to the closed door and use the Pair of Lances to enter the Coliseum. Before stepping on the cyan glyph in middle of the area, go to the top of the structure using either portal at both sides of this area. Up here, get the 'Blue Orb Fragment' by jumping in the middle. Now step on the cyan glyph to trigger a scene with Griffon for the third and last time. ----------------------- Boss #7 - Griffon (3rd) ----------------------- Ok, Griffon got a lot harder this time. He almost starts all the time dashing towards you. But that's easy to evade. He's the same old Griffon from the ship. Also, once you've taken 1/3 of it's HP, you'll break his wing, thus being unable to fly. He'll become berserk, so evade all his physical attacks, using Air Raid, of course. He also has a new attack, in which he creates several lightning pillars that advance towards you. Time them well to evade them, as they take a lot of health. ;P ----------------------- After the fight, watch the scene involving Trish, then jump into the central pillar (the one that squashed Griffon). Now return to the castle and insert the Wheel of Destiny to have the drawbridge come down, allowing you to enter the castle once again. The castle is dark as hell, but thank goodness that we got that Luminite. At the main hall (where you started the game), jump on top of the horse's head to have a 'Blue Orb Fragment' appear. Now simply Stinger towards it. Now check the lower level, at the right side for another 'Blue Orb Fragment'. Hit the rune clock on the opposite side of where you entered to trigger a scene where a new enemy appears, the Plasma. These are the most annoying enemies in the game, IMO. When you're attacking them, the may split, being more Plasmas to fight. Anyway, kill it to have the seal removed. Go to the hall from the airplane room and here, go left (Dante's) and jump under the face on top of the painting to have a another 'Blue Orb Fragment' appear. Now go to the end of the hall and enter the Cathedral, the place where you fought your very first boss fight. Hit the rune clock right next to you and quickly examine the puddle in middle of the room to trigger a Boss Fight. ------------------------- Boss #8 - Nightmare (1st) ------------------------- Nightmare, hardest boss in all the game. He's simply so powerful, that it's worth writing all attacks and everything about him. Nightmare has two forms, liquid and solid. When he's liquid, hit any of the rune clocks until it fills to have Nightmare gets solid. He also, just like the Shadows, has a core, which can appear either in his ass, or over his back. He has 2 attacks when it comes out of his ass and 1 attack when it comes over his back. Maggots: An attack that he has when in liquid form. He'll send "maggots" towards you, sticking to you and exploding, turning the place into a small iceberg. Simply run to shake them off Swallow: Another attack when he's in his liquid form. A "mouth" similar to the ones the Shadows have will try and engulf you from the bottom, taking to another "dimension". Simply jump to avoid it. Also, in this first battle with Nightmare, you'll have to fight Phantom in this other dimension. At the second fight, you'll have to kill Griffon and at the third, you'll have to fight Nelo. Machine Gun: When Nightmare turns to his solid form, the first thing he'll do is use this attack. Simply run to avoid the attack. Claw: This is one attack that he uses when the core comes right out of behind. He'll try to impale you three times, so be really careful. The claw comes out of his left side. Pin Missile: Another attack from behind. I highly recommend having Ifrit's Rolling Blaze, so at the moment you jump, you can return him his missiles. Ice Beam: This is my favorite. When the core comes out of his back, wait until all the light coming out vanishes, jump on his back and beat the shit out of him. These are the attacks. The best way to hurt him is to wait until he's about to use his Ice Beam, then use Air Raid and/or if you have it, Inferno. ------------------------- Once you've killed it, it's time to go finish another Secret Mission. Simply return to the airplane room to enter the Secret Mission. .:*' Secret Mission 10 - Shadow of Darkness '*:. -- "Hunt down all the Shadows". -- There are a grand total of 4 Shadows in this Secret Mission. There are 2 on top of the airplane in this room. Remember the previous strategy? Use Ifrit's Kick13 speed combo and Ebony & Ivory to kill both. They're a bit harder, simply because the room is dark and it's pretty hard to spot them. Now go to the main hall (where you started the game) and go to the place where you got the first Blue Orb Fragment. Another Shadow is there. Now go in the next room (where you entered from the outer area) to find the last Shadow. Back at the room where you killed Nightmare, go out to the bridge and go to the other side. Now examine the symbol of Hermes at the back and use the Staff of Hermes to have two paintings appear. Go in the red one (right one) and grab the 'Blue Orb Fragment' from the corner and on top of the bed for an 'Untouchable'. Exit the painting and enter the left one to end the mission. OMFG... From here, simply jump and use Air Raid. Now fly towards the Blue Orb Fragment what is almost in middle of the bridge. Return inside the painting and go to the top of the spiral staircase and enter the door. Approach the end of the room to have a painting appear just like before. Enter it and try going in the door to be greeted with a scene with a new type of enemy, the Frosts, and two of them. They're like an evolved form of the Blades, but with Ice elemental... and you know what is weak against ice, right? That's right, Ifrit is a great choice against them, specially if you have Inferno, with two of them and they're gone. Now enter the door. In this hall, follow it to the end, ignoring the forking path to the right and killing the Marionettes and Fetishes if you want. There's a skeleton dragon in this room, and it'll be throwing fireballs towards you. What you need to do is to slash the fireballs right back at it, 3 times total to destroy it. A mirror appeared near the entrance of the room, so use the crank right next to it to trigger a scene. Now jump on to the second floor on the right side, go outside and a 'Blue Orb Fragment' will drop. Get it and start jumping on the blue platforms that only appear when lightning strikes and cross to the other side, then grab the 'Quicksilver'. Remember the forking path you ignored previously? Go there and use the Quicksilver at the door to open it to trigger a scene with Nelo Angelo. --------------------------- Boss #9 - Nelo Angelo (3rd) --------------------------- Once again, Nelo Angelo. Sometimes they use guns to attack. They have a habit of twirling their wrists before firing, which make spinning sounds. The daggers they throw travel in a straight line. If you can see the enemy preparing to attack, you should be able to avoid being hit. They will also throw crescent-shaped blades that curve round obstacles to attack you. Keep a sharp eye and watch their movements. If they catch you, they will not let go easily and will try to slash and gash at you neck. Wiggle the Left Analog Stick to shake them off. They will make a screeching evil war cry to immobilize those near them. If you become immobilized, quickly move the Left Analog Stick back and forth to free yourself. Since they exist as physical entities, they can be destroyed by physical means. Use guns, swords and other ways to scatter them to oblivion! ..:: Sin Scissors ::.. They are one of the low-class evil spirits that can only exist by taking the shape of physical objects. These evil spirits have chosen deadly scissors as their shape. These evil spirits are dependent on the masks they wear. They cannot exist without them. Their capes are nothing then illusions created by the evil spirits. All physical attacks against them are useless and easily blocked. When they descend with their scissors, there's a short moment of time when they are off guard. If you attack at the right moment, you'll be able to damage them critically. They deflect attacks using their scissors. If you knock the scissors out of their hands, they will become defenseless. This is your chance to blast your gun at them. If you fire at close range when their masks are defenseless, you can eliminate them with one shot. Although it is difficult to evade the attack they execute after they surround you, don't give up. There is still a chance to counter attack. ..:: Sin Scythe ::.. These evil spirits have scythes instead of scissors Like the Sin Scissors they are dependent on their masks. They cannot exist without them. Their capes are nothing then illusions created by the evil spirits. All physical attacks against them are useless and easily blocked. The large spinning scythe attack is an expression of the Sin's hatred and anger. You have to be quick on your feet to evade the returning scythe of the boomerang scythe attacks. The umbrella-like shape that appears is a nucleus that gathers evil spirits and converts them into its own energy. When this occurs, they become even more fierce. They'll stab their prey with their scythes and immobilize them to steal their souls. Quickly move the Left Analog Stick back and forth to free yourself from death. The attack executed after surrounding you is deadly. Watch them closely; if they start circling, do your best to avoid being hit. If you succeed in deflecting the scythes, you'll be able to create an opening for attack. The scythes that fly at you can be deflected with your guns if you engage your Devil Trigger. Guns are very effective against these evil sprits, since they've only fought with ancient knights who used swords. Use your guns to blast them out of the air. If the gun is shot from a close range when their masks are defenseless, you'll be able to eliminate them with one shot. ..:: Death Scissors ::.. The part that looks like a cow's skull is their main body. Their evil is much stronger and tougher when compared to the Sin's. They use many staffs made from bones of animals and humans to create an evil barrier. Their screw attacks are accurate and very destructive. Dodge to escape these attacks. It's unwise to fight these evil spirits from the surface. Use the devil trigger to take the fight into the air. The head of the main body is their weak point. But regular guns won't have much effect against it. The most effective way to fighting them is if you find a way to attack their horns, which are their weak points. Their capes are nothing then illusions created by the evil spirits. All physical attacks against them are useless and easily blocked. They are more powerful then the "Sins". They will most likely counter Dante's attack by deflecting it. Occasionally they concentrate the evil in their heads, which turn red. When this occurs, all of your attacks become ineffective. If you are caught in this situation, do your best to dodge their attacks. ..:: Death Scythe ::.. These are the strongest, the highest ranking, and the most evil of all the "Sins". Their deadly physical attacks from above must be avoided. If you are hit, critical damage will be inevitable. The tornadoes that propel their pray into the are sprits in the atmosphere that were forced to comply with their evil ways. How you utilize them to you advantage will test your quality as a Devil Hunter. If you use the power of the tornado to your advantage, you should be able to jump anywhere you want to go. When the Death Scythes become desperate during a prolonged battle, they will throw their four blades. Attack and destroy them as quickly as you possibly can. Don't give them any time to get a hold of the scythes. Their capes are nothing then illusions created by the evil spirits. All physical attacks are useless. Meaningless attacks will only make them counter attack! Jump higher then the enemy and attack with accuracy from above. When you strike the actual scythe itself, the enemy will flinch. Since it is rarely off guard, attack it with all you've got! ..:: Shadow ::.. It has evil spells covering its body, thus allowing it to deflect all sword attacks. It's am evil sprit that takes form from its own shadows. But they can also take on other forms by changing the spells on its body. In its shadow form, all sword attacks are deflected. This is because it remembers the weapons from its fights with the ancient knights. However, firearms seem to be an exception. It releases magical powers instantaneously in order to deflect certain attacks. At the same time, the magical powers are shot toward the enemy. It is very difficult to avoid being hit with this attack. When you damage its surface to a certain point, it will come to a point when it can't deflect the attacks anymore, showing its true form. This is when it is most vulnerable. The true form is the core of its evil powers. Firearms will not work against this core. Its spinning attack is very accurate. Watch out for it when it jumps high into the air. The shadow transforms into a narrow spear like weapon, thrusting it towards its enemy. The spear is hard enough for the player to even stand on top it. If you succeed in standing on top of it, there is a brief moment when the shadow cannot move. This is when you can blast all the lead you have! The Shadow will go into a state of shock if you succeed in standing on top of its spear. When this happens the spells also lose their barrier effectiveness and allows the bullets to go right in. In another words, if you are able to blast enough bullets during this state of shock, you can defeat the enemy without trying to attack it's core directly. ..:: Beelzebub ::.. This evil sprit inhabits the body of a fly. Its hideousness is not too difficult from its appearance and movements. The blue Beelzebubs vomits what appear to be maggots, but they are really a form of evil power that prevents you from firing when in contact with it. In this case, you should switch your weapon to a sword. The large green Beelzebubs serve as an evil power supply for the blue airborne Beelzebubs. They seem to be stronger, since they have larger physical mass. The green Beelzebubs feed on the dead and absorb their evil powers, and become even stronger. After feeding they become agile and more dangerous. Never turn your back to the Beelzebub. It will grab you with its frontal limbs and try to break your back. It is most vulnerable after being hit, when it is on its back. Blast it with an aerial attack, but watch out for the poison it spits out. ..:: Kyklops ::.. Although they appear similar to the Phantom, they are still one of the low- class evil spirits. However, since they take on earth and rocks as host elements, they have substantial durability. Contrary to their appearance, they have superb leaping abilities. They can shoot rocks from their mouths, which they form by eating dirt. Try to avoid standing in front of them whenever possible. Although their armor is made from rocks, it doesn't compare to the armor of the Phantom. Use the Devil Trigger to bash the monster along with their armors. ..:: Blade ::.. They are soldiers created by the Dark Emperor to take control of the surface. They use a kind of reptile as a host body, thus having much lizard-like characteristics. The round shield on their forearm is reinforced with evil powers and deflects most attacks. Their defense is good against attacks that come from above, but not so for the attacks that come from below. The mask they wear protects them well against bullets. You can either destroy the mask quickly or go around the enemy to attack it from other angles. They can pressurize their blood, concentrate it to their claws, and shoot them out like missiles. When you see them take the stance to fire, do your best to dodge them. When they notice that their pray is weakening, they will with out mercy, come to finish you. Remember to always be on guard. Relying on their superb agility, they are capable of moving freely underwater, as if they were aquatic organisms. They have tremendous jumping ability and their lower body strength is present in their underwater ability. Their spinning attack is a deadly one. Possessors of superior agility, the Blades can resume their positions even when they're struck up into the air. Trying to defeat them with monotonous attacks will be a difficult task. Even Blades equipped with masks, claws, and agility will not stand a chance when they are put off balance. Attack from behind and take them down face first. Then attack from the air to finish them for good. Their weak points lie beneath the armor they wear, which protects them from most attacks. However, not all their vulnerable parts are covered. It is safe to say that by attacked exposed areas, you can inflict a lot of damage. ..:: Sargasso ::.. They hide between the edges of the sea and the Underworld, waiting to feast on stray wanderers. The spirits the victims are destined to wander the endless sea of the Underworld. They will move quickly and feast on any life form that they sense nearby. They will show their true from only when they attack. ..:: Nobody ::.. Their level of intelligence is low. Hence, their kind wasn't given a name. But their skill to survive is a force to be reckoned with. After all, they have survived this extreme world of survival of the fittest. The strange dance that they do somehow skews the dimension and takes away your magical powers (Devil Gauges). There is no real way to prevent this. When you encounter these evil spirits, you must not rely on your magical powers. When you destroy the mysterious mask they wear, they will increase their body size along with their strengths. You as a Devil Hunter will have to decide which size of Nobodies you should eliminate first. Their ultra-high metabolism causes them to drop decomposed products of their bodies that appear like eyeballs. These eyeballs will explode spurting the toxins that it encases. Sometimes they will grab the eyeball and throw it towards the player. Keeping your distance away from them doesn't mean you're safe. Be careful of their giant arm that grows from their back. If you are not careful, they'll grab you with the giant arm and hurt you badly. Their jump attack is so fierce, if you're hit, you'll fly back quite a distance. Especially be careful when they charge and dodge your attack. Do your best to avoid being hit with this jump kick. When they die, they explode into pieces. Since the Nobody's body is a living toxin, stay away from them even when they dying. If you don't keep your distance, their toxic flesh will hit and damage you. ..:: Fetish ::.. Although they appear similar to the Marionettes, they have much greater evil powers. They are not the works of a man, but they appear to have been created by an evil entity. The strange weapons engulfed in flames are projected like yo-yos. Even if you dodge the first pass, watch out for the second pass. Using their speed, they will grab the player's head with their bird like beaks. Wiggle the Left Stick on the controller to shake them off. They will make an evil war cry to immobilize those near them. When a pray is immobilized by their attack, the others will relentlessly attack the pray without mercy. The flames that shoot out from their mouths difficult to avoid. Since they are smarter then the Marionettes, monotonous attacks will only make them retaliate with their flames. ..:: Frost ::.. They are soldiers created by the Dark Emperor to take control of the surface. Enveloped in cold air they are the elites of their kind. Their quickness is a definite advantage in cornering their pray. The cold honed claws are none other then an ice blade. The air around the blades is beyond absolute zero temperature and the victims who are slashed will die without feeling any pain. The claws will become icicles that shoot out as deadly projectiles. To dodge after they've been fired is almost impossible. Anticipate their movements to avoid being shot. It's unwise to think you're safe just because you've managed to sneak behind the enemy. Remember that their claws don't always fire forward. They will release their intense coldness using the ground to channel the coldness. Listen carefully for the freezing sound of the ground and dodge to the sides. They will freeze the moisture in the atmosphere with their radiating coldness and transform it into many sharp ice spears. You should be able to sense this attack. Otherwise, you'll fall victim to their ice spears. They can disperse their body at molecular levels that allow them to travel through air. However, They can only travel in straight directions. Anticipating where they will appear may help you in winning the battle. If enough damage is inflicted, their body parts will shatter. Keep on damaging and stop them from regenerating their lost parts. They will try to regenerate their shattered body parts by freezing atmosphere. Destroy the ice formations as quickly as possible. Although impervious even to volcanic fire, the frosts are weak to higher forms of incendiary. Use the hellfire of Ifrit to counter them. ..:: Plasma ::.. They are electrical evil spirits transformed into the shape of bats. When they are in the form of bats, they fire blades of electricity. Be ready when you see them start to charge up light. They have the ability to copy and transform into the shapes of their opponents. Not only do they copy their shapes but they also have the ability to imitate their behaviors as well. The charged electricity that fires from their eyes is dangerous. The electricity travels horizontally so if you sense danger, jump upwards to avoid being hit. The Plasma will separate without warning. How they separate is unknown. Even after separation, they have identical abilities and fully recovered energy. The only way to stop them from multiplying is to eliminate all of them almost simultaneously. Plasma is an embodiment of evil electricity. Thus, the use of Nightmare-beta against it is useless. It's ability to manipulate ambient energy will only bend the light, not damaging it at all. Alastor is the form of "Spirit of Lightening". It only obeys commands of the chosen one. Hence, the powers of the Alastor do not work effectively against the Plasma. /\ /\ /\ ~~( )~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~)(~~~~~~~~~~~~~( )~~ )( 10] Unlockables ( ) s1000 )( ~~( )~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~)(~~~~~~~~~~~~~( )~~ \/ \/ \/ = Easy Automatic - How to unlock: Get killed several times in the first 3 missions. = Hard Mode - How to unlock: Complete Normal Difficulty = Dante Must Die!
