TIME TRIAL OVERVIEW [0201] _______________________________________________________________________________ Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex (TWoC) is very similar to Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped in almost every way. However, most of the levels are longer and harder compared to Warped. As we know, in time trial, you have to beat the level without dying. Longer and harder levels mean that you will die more often when attempting time trial. This is the main reason why time trial in this game is not as popular as Warped's time trial. However, there is a programming short-sight that allows us to take an Aku Aku mask into time trial without losing it when we touch the clock. We can even bring in two Aku Aku masks (otherwise known as Golden Aku Aku mask) to time trial! (for more bugs/glitches, check out Section VII). Just remember that for most running levels, this is a compulsory requirement in order to beat the Master Time. For what the Master Time is, please read the very first part of Section III. Another reason why the time trial in this game is not as popular as Warped's is because the times set for platinum relics seem to be a bit random and untested. Platinum relics for some levels - mainly plane levels (i.e. level 2, 9, 18) and secret warp room levels (i.e. level 26-30) - are way too easy to obtain whereas some longer running levels (such as level 17 and 22) are really difficult for beginner and intermediate players. That's why in some later versions of this game (for Gamecube and X-Box), some relic times have been adjusted in order to bring the difficulty down a little bit. The bazooka control in this game is vastly different from Warped's bazooka. In Warped, you would find it very difficult to move the target of the bazooka and you can't target objects outside the screen. In TWoC, you would notice that the bazooka control is pretty easy and you are allowed to shoot objects outside the screen, which means the bazooka has a longer shooting range compared to Warped. This long range shooting ability is very useful in order to shoot the clock from as far as possible in some running levels. This isn't really possible in Warped due to the awkward control and the short range of the bazooka. There are 30 levels in TWoC, same as Warped. The level length in TWoC is generally longer, but there is a ridiculous amount of time boxes in each level. For example, Level 1 in TWoC, Arctic Antics, is longer than Level 1 in Warped, Toad Village, but Arctic Antics has over 100 boxes, and so you would expect there would be a lot of time boxes too. And yes, there are heaps of time boxes. Boxes that usually stay the same in Warped, such as nitros and TNTs can also turn into time boxes in TWoC, adding more time boxes. As has been said above, you can bring in 2 Aku Aku masks to time trial in TWoC, but the invincibility (when you collected 3 Aku Aku masks) does not give you additional running speed (Warped gives you extra speed while invincible). Moreover, the invincibility is only last for a few seconds (finished faster than Warped), so invincibility hardly gives any advantages, other than you can destroy all enemies and crates that are blocking your way. This sole advantage is the reason why invincibility in TWoC is still important. In TWoC, jumping, spinning and (especially) hanging on a bar will slow you down significantly, unlike Warped where they won't slow you too much. Therefore, you should be able to go faster with invincibility because you don't need to spin or jump to destroy enemies and crates. There are also some very helpful technical glitches that are allowed to be used for getting the best time. These glitches are the "invisible floor" glitch and Crashteroids glitch (see Section VII for more details). However, Wizards and Lizards glitch IS NOT ALLOWED for setting a record because the glitch makes you finish the level in under one second with NO SKILL REQUIRED WHATSOEVER, which defeats the purpose of time trial. Moreover, the Wizards and Lizards glitch can only work in the original NTSC PS2 version of TWoC, so if it is allowed, this would give a very BIG unfair advantage to those who own this version. In conclusion, when comparing to Warped, the records for TWoC are generally faster, even though the levels are longer, as demonstrated in the example above - you can get a faster time in Arctic Antics than in Toad Village, although Arctic Antics is far longer. You will enjoy the time trial in this game if you like Warped's time trial. However, you WILL get frustrated on your first few attempts due to the high probability of failing. Just keep on practicing, follow this guide and soon you should be able to get all the Platinum, and even beating some Master Times! Good luck! _______________________________________________________________________________ III. PROFESSIONAL TIME TRIAL GUIDE [0300] _______________________________________________________________________________ This section will be divided into 30 parts for each level. Each level section will start with the level number, followed by the title of the level in English. Then, the time for all in-game relics, Master Time, my best time, best time achieved by another player and LTP (Lowest time possible) will be provided as a reference. Note that the relic times in this guide are from the PAL PS2 version of this game. Let's look at what each of these times refers to: oo----------oo | Sapphire | o------------o Time for this relic is easily beaten. You should have no problem with this at all. This is the minimum requirement to complete the game. All sapphire relics can be gained without the running shoes (i.e. before you finish the game). oo------oo | Gold | (-x:xx.xx = difference between Gold and Sapphire) o--------o The time for this relic was set with all Crash Bandicoot players in mind - from beginner, intermediate to highly skilled players. All players was expected to get at least gold relics for full game completion. For some, this may be a challenging task to do, but for others, they can beat the gold times easily. oo----------oo | Platinum | (-xx:xx.xx = difference between Platinum and Gold) o------------o This relic is not for everyone. The players need to practice a lot and know the level inside out in order to get the platinum relic. If you follow the strategies outlined in this guide and practice your skill diligently, you should be able to beat the Platinum times with ease. oo-------------oo | Master time | (-xx:xx.xx = difference between Master Time and Platinum) o---------------o The Master Time is an unofficial benchmark set by me, which is similar to the "Developer Time" of Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped. The time is not shown in the game. This is the time that you should achieve if you understand the strategies outlined in this guide and practice them with dedication. Beating Master Time will give you a huge sense of accomplishment (just like beating the "Developer Time" in Warped) and show people that you have mastered that level in time trial. oo---------oo | My time | (-xx:xx.xx = difference between My Time and Master Time) o-----------o This is my personal best record. This is pretty hard to beat since I have been playing this game for quite some time now. You may beat a few of my times easily, but some of them are (probably) world records. However, nothing is perfect. There are always room for improvements. oo-----------oo | Best time | (-xx:xx.xx = difference between Best Time and Master Time) o-------------o This is the best time achieved by other players who have played this game competitively. oo----------------------------oo (-xx:xx.xx = difference between LTP and | LTP (Lowest Time Possible) | Best/My Time whichever is lower) o------------------------------o LTP is a theoretical lowest time possible using strategies outlined in this guide. All LTPs is supposed to be impossible to beat as you are expected to NEVER get any lower than the time specified here. LTP is calculated using a theoretical perfect run if you follow everything in this guide, minus few milliseconds. However, as new strategies surfaced, some LTP may be broken and need to be revised. ________________________________ After all of these information listed, the strategy on how to get the best time will follow. This strategy is designed to help you beat the Master Time, so if you only want to get the platinum, you may want to skip some difficult tricks along the line. The strategy will assume that you bring no Aku Aku to the level. The strategy may also refer you to a video that can be found in the links part at the end of each level section. The links part will provide all the links to proofs that have been posted over the internet for that level (either a full run video or just a screenshot). Let me know if any of the links are down. Note that sometimes I may give you specific frozen times break down along the way in a level. The times were estimated from what I experienced while playing time trial in the level. Usually when I said xx.xx - xx.xx (e.g. 5.80 - 6.30), the lowest time in the range can only be achieved with a very good run and some luck, so if you are on the higher end or just a bit over the range (1 or 2 sec over the range is ok), don't worry too much, you will still be able to get platinum relic easily. However, you may just miss out on beating the Master Time. Just keep practising. Getting the average of the range is considered "very good". Getting lower than this range means that you should be able to beat My Time easily if everything runs perfectly until the end. And if you haven't realised it yet, I haven't successfully done all the tricks I wrote in this guide for all levels because if I did, I should have beaten all the Best Time from other players. I have got 15 BEST TIME EVER (BTE) for time trial in this game so far. Some may be beaten easily because I have not done every tricks in the level perfectly. However, because I have the best time for that level, this basically means no one else has effectively executed all the tricks too. If you do, I am sure you will beat My Time. Credits section at the end of each level is provided to acknowledge every person who has shared their strategies with me. When there are no credits for techniques, glitches or tricks listed on that level, then that means I learned these strategies with no reference from external sources (such as the Tornado Alley order for destroying the generator) or they are common strategies (such as cutting corners and get all the time boxes). Note that for the best time on all running levels, you must have a running shoes super power, which you can obtain by defeating the last boss for the first time. You need to keep on running ALL THE TIME by holding R2 down at all times (exception is when you are hanging or in a machine). With all these in mind, let's start! o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------o _______________________________________________________ oo===================================================oo [0301] | | | Level 1: ARCTIC ANTICS | o_____________________________________________________o |=================o===================================| | Sapphire | 1:15.00 | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Gold | 0:45.00 (-0:30.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Platinum | 0:37.00 (-0:08.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Master time | 0:32.00 (-0:05.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | My time | 0:31.76 (-0:00.24) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Best time | 0:30.81 (-0:01.19) by. pardiez | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | LTP | 0:29.90 (-0:00.91) | o=================o===================================o oo----------oo | STRATEGY | o------------o First of all, get yourself a golden Aku Aku mask. This can be done by doing the time trial, get the Aku Aku box after the second seals march, then restart trial. Repeat once more to get a golden Aku Aku mask. Once you have a golden Aku Aku mask, it's time to start your championship run. Shoot the clock using bazooka from the three crates ahead, preferably from BEHIND the boxes, NOT in front of the boxes (it is easier from the front but that will waste approximately 10 milliseconds). Spin the boxes right after the time trial starts, so you should have 0.02 - 0.10 now. Then run, avoid seals, cut corner, spin the time box (DON'T JUMP while running) and get invincibility from the Aku Aku box. Small jump over the pit. Cut another corner by small jump over the pit, then get all time boxes in your way. Your invincibility should run out when you pass the two normal crates stack together on the ice. Normal jump over the pit and spin the 2 sec time box on top of a TNT. Your time should be 9.60 - 10.00 now. Small jump the pit where the whale jumps. Spin the next time box. Normal jump passed the TNT on its right but spin before you land so you don't waste an Aku Aku mask and get stuck in the TNT box stack. Sometimes you need to spin the ice skater which may cost you 10 to 20 milliseconds. For the best time, you may need to restart trial, but otherwise keep going. Spin the next time box. Avoid spinning penguins. Small jump the first and second pits. Run pass the third small pit. Then small jump all the remaining pits while getting the two time boxes. Time should be 19.40 - 20.00 now. Cut corner, pass the TNT from the left side (DON'T JUMP) and avoid spinning penguins. Get the two time boxes when you are out of the cave. Now here is the trickiest part of the level to do it properly. Small jump to the long main island in the middle. Then small jump to 2 sec time box on the right. When you are bouncing from the time box, immediately use double jump and tornado spin to get both 3 sec and 2 sec time boxes ahead. Right after getting the 2 sec time box, jump (normal or small jump depending on where you land after performing the tornado spin) and land behind the switch box. Time should be around 27 seconds now. Cut corner and spin the last time box (around 29 seconds is good) and run to the warp portal. You may slide to the portal to make it few milliseconds faster but the risk of missing the portal while sliding is very VERY high. So, it's up to you if you want to slide or just run to it. Best bet is, just run. Voila! You just beat the master time! Congrats! Your time should be 31.20 - 31.90. The second link below shows you how to do this strategy well. The only problem with this video is Stelzig did not shoot the clock at the beginning. If he did, this run will easily beat the Master Time. The first link shows the difference between the PAL and NTSC versions. On 21.00 seconds time trial game time in the first video (NTSC video), you can see two time boxes behind a box stack, while this doesn't exist in the PAL version. It appears that Crash runs a little slower in the NTSC version by about 1.5 second in total for this level, so equal run in NTSC version would be about half a second faster than its PAL counterpart. oo---------oo | CREDITS | o-----------o - Thanks to Stelzig for the video. - Thanks to byebyeblimps for the bazooka technique. oo-------oo | LINKS | o---------o 1. http://youtube.com/watch?v=EjxzdlFuk10 pardiez -- 0:31.05 -- Full Run Video (NTSC) 2. http://youtube.com/watch?v=hxFas_X6NOg Stelzig -- 0:33.48 -- Full Run Video (PAL) 3. http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/9516/imgp0001xy2.jpg Fethy -- 0:31.74 -- Screenshot 4. http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/5172/0603071022xg1.jpg Xcarvenger -- 0:31.76 -- Screenshot 5. http://img116.imageshack.us/img116/4005/20728801hq0.jpg PlanesWalker -- 0:32.80 -- Screenshot o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------o _______________________________________________________ oo===================================================oo [0302] | | | Level 2: TORNADO ALLEY | o_____________________________________________________o |=================o===================================| | Sapphire | 2:00.00 | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Gold | 1:20.00 (-0:40.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Platinum | 1:00.00 (-0:20.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Master time | 0:21.00 (-0:39.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | My time | 0:18.82 (-0:02.18) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Best time | 0:18.30 (-0:02.70) by. Fethy | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | LTP | 0:17.70 (-0:00.60) | o=================o===================================o oo----------oo | STRATEGY | o------------o Just when you start, turn to the left immediately. Go up a bit until you can see a normal crate balloon, then turn right so you are now in line with a health balloon nearby. Then keep shooting the 1st balloon - not the box - behind the health balloon (see diagram below for location) when you are just beside the health balloon. When you feel your next few bullets will hit the balloon, quickly turn around and shoot the clock while moving your plane to the second time box. You must do this very very fast. So, when you start, you should have between 0.00 - 0.60 with 6 seconds frozen time from the two time boxes you cracked earlier. Check video on link #2 for visual aid. Link #3 shows more difficult technique by Slazzy. Both results should be similar. Note that you must do this very fast, otherwise the 1st box may hit the ground already before you start the time trial, which means you will lose 3 seconds. An alternative easier but slower method is: Just when you start, turn to the left immediately. Then go behind the 2nd time box (see diagram), then shoot the balloon and the clock from there... Note that this method is slower than the first method as you don't take the other time box. This is the diagram: ............5........... ........................ 6....................... .......................4 ...B1................... ........................ ....H.......3........... ........................ ............C........... ...B2................... ............S........... ........................ 1......................2 Note: NOT TO SCALE S = start point C = the clock to start time trial H = the health balloon B1 = the first balloon you should shoot before starting time trial B2 = the second balloon you should shoot before starting time trial ... and then shoot the tornado generator in the order I have put. Follow the order as shown in the diagram. Shoot all time boxes (the red balloons). You can shot the box or the balloon. However for the last two time boxes, you must shoot the box, NOT the balloon as it takes too long for the box to hit the ground, so you would lose a lot of frozen milliseconds if you don't shoot the box. For the best time, you also need some luck and 100% accuracy, i.e. quickly move on when you know you have shot enough bullets to destroy the generator, even before the generator is destroyed. oo---------oo | CREDITS | o-----------o - Thanks to Fethy for the easier starting trick video and for the "Alternative easier but slower method". - Thanks to Slazzy for the alternative "shooting two balloons before starting time trial" technique. oo-------oo | LINKS | o---------o 1. http://youtube.com/watch?v=D1pC280dvRQ Fethy -- 0:24.42 -- Full Run Video 2. http://youtube.com/watch?v=B_LE0Q_gqEg Fethy -- ... -- Starting Trick Video 3. http://youtube.com/watch?v=luSxlb0e-Og Slazzy -- ... -- Starting Trick Video 4. http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/9950/imgp0004jq2.jpg Fethy -- 0:19.86 -- Screenshot o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------o _______________________________________________________ oo===================================================oo [0303] | | | Level 3: BAMBOOZLED | o_____________________________________________________o |=================o===================================| | Sapphire | 1:15.00 | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Gold | 0:35.00 (-0:40.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Platinum | 0:25.00 (-0:10.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Master time | 0:13.00 (-0:12.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | My time | 0:11.58 (-0:01.42) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Best time | 0:09.96 (-0:03.04) by. Fethy | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | LTP | 0:09.40 (-0:00.56) | o=================o===================================o oo----------oo | STRATEGY | o------------o Note that to get the best time, you SHOULD NOT wait even a single frame for the first elevator platform to come down. The platform should be on the ground and when you are on it, it should move up immediately. The platform stays at the exact same place where it was on your previous time trial attempt. So, wait for the platform to be on the ground, then restart trial. On your next time trial attempt, the platform should be on the ground for you to roll on to. Move on as fast as you can. Conserve momentum and get all time boxes. Watch the video (link #1) to learn the techniques required for this level. Some improvements that can be made from the video (link #1): You can cut the first spiral by jumping to the lower part. To cut the first spiral, you should be in the lower half of the spiral before getting the 1 sec time box, then roll as fast as possible to the top part getting the 1 sec time box, and then you should jump out of the spiral before it begins to turn. This means you will have to miss a 2 sec time box. If you get the 2 sec time box, it will slow you down and you will not be able to jump to the lower part. You should have 5.20 - 5.60 when getting the 3 sec time box underneath. Highlights from the video (link #1): In the video, Fethy used the fence to gain more speed, in particular when he climbed the hill right after the first spiral. This is very hard to do and require specific angle to perform this successfully. You may need some practice so you can do this without decreasing your speed. He used the fence technique once more just before he got the time box near nitro on the optional left way. Note that once you get this time box beside nitro and all 3 sec time boxes on this dead-end, the time should be frozen for the rest of the level. So, if you don't get the record you want at this point, you may want to restart trial, or just practice for the later part of the level. To maintain the frozen time, you should get the time boxes up high using the elevator just after you coming out from the dead-end. You also have to cut the third spiral, like what you did on the first spiral. To do this properly, you need to stop right after you jump out of the spiral, so you should fall on the downhill and gain enough speed to roll up fast on the next uphill. If you roll full speed when jumping down on the third spiral, you will be struggling to go uphill. This may break the frozen time you should have kept to the end. After the spiral, get all the time boxes and choose the bottom way where there is a stack of 4 nitros blocking the way (NOT the one with the elevator). You can roll pass the stack from the side and immediately break the nearest two time boxes (see video). If you miss these two time boxes, the time would get unfrozen and you will lose a few milliseconds. For the reason, check Section VII of this guide. First of all, get yourself a golden Aku Aku mask. To do this fast, play the time trial until you are chased by a dragon (or a big lizard?). You should be able to get the 2 Aku Aku in one run. Once you have a golden Aku Aku, restart trial. Before you begin the time trial, go and defeat all the enemies up to the first checkpoint crate: 3 shield knights, 2 bats (note that one of them is harmless so you can leave it if you want), and the wizard. Just be careful, NOT to slide the last shield knight, as if you slide him, there is a very good chance that he will fly into the box behind him which happens to be a checkpoint crate. Breaking a checkpoint crate will make the clock disappear so you will not be able to start time trial. You have to go back to the warp room and then come back to the level (after waiting forever for the loading), so the clock will be there again. Therefore, just double jump on to the last shield knight, DON'T slide him. Once you cleared all the enemies, stand just to the left of where the first bat was. You will then have to shoot the clock with the bazooka from there. The clock is a bit to the left. Just after shooting the clock, quickly move the target of your bazooka a bit to the right to shoot the 2 time boxes there. Shoot twice to break both time boxes. This is very hard to do unless you have been practicing a lot. Once you have done these a lot of times, you will notice that when you stand on a specific pixel of the floor, you can learn where exactly you should move the target of the bazooka in order to shoot the clock and the time boxes 90% of the time successfully. Once that's done, run to the right following the way. After you get your first invincibility, the time should be around 3 seconds. While being chased, do a small jump to get the 3 sec time box above the fire pit. Land on the right side of the pit, then run on the right side of the barrel just beside the pit. It may take few practices before you can run between the barrel and the pit safely (without falling down to the pit). No need to jump. Don't get the second Aku Aku box on the left side; it wastes time. Just run as straight as possible and get all the time boxes. Small jump all the pits that is in your way, and also small jump the nitro line. If you can avoid pits and boxes, AVOID them because spinning or jumping will slow you down. At the part where there are 6 boxes and 2 of them are time boxes, just spin them once, and then spin the time box close to them (NOT tornado spin - just normal spin twice). On the side scrolling part of the level, slide into all the knights. DON'T jump over any normal crates, always spin them. At the 1 sec time box and a normal crate with a nitro on top of them, just slide into the time box. Alternatively, you can spin it to get faster time, but the nitro must not fall on you because if it does, it will slow you down a lot. At the last nitro stack, you should still have an extra Aku Aku mask, so you can just spin the closest nitro to destroy everything. Then quickly run to the exit portal while the clock is still frozen. oo---------oo | CREDITS | o-----------o - Thanks to Slazzy for the general strategy. - Thanks to Fethy for the "bazookaing" technique. oo-------oo | LINKS | o---------o 1. http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/7190/imgp0004bisrw4.jpg Fethy -- 0:29.62 -- Screenshot 2. http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/3917/4sf4.jpg PlanesWalker -- 0:30.60 -- Screenshot o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------o _______________________________________________________ oo===================================================oo [0305] | | | Level 5: COMPACTOR REACTOR | o_____________________________________________________o |=================o===================================| | Sapphire | 1:45.00 | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Gold | 1:05.00 (-0:40.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Platinum | 0:58.00 (-0:07.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Master time | 0:38.00 (-0:20.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | My time | 0:37.32 (-0:00.68) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Best time | 0:35.14 (-0:02.86) by. One Aku Aku mask is also ok. You can bring them from another level. Alternatively, this can be done by doing the time trial in this level (may take a long time, but I think it is still faster than all those loadings we need to sustain if we go to another level ... plus you can practice this level too. Double Bonus!). The closest two Aku Aku boxes in this level are at the factory part. The first one is just after the TNTs and normal crates stack. The second one is on the pit just after the three green laser things in the side scrolling part of the factory section. Once you got the golden Aku Aku, restart trial. At the start wait a little before starting. There are two things to notice so you know how long you have been waiting. First, you can start jumping to the mine-cart just when the 3rd steam rises on the left side of the background. Second, you can also start when Aku Aku is looking at you (the player) or Crash. The wait is done so that in the later part of the level, the crushers should not block your way if you follow this strategy properly (i.e. you are fast enough). Otherwise, you may just want to try to find your own timing in order to suit your speed. In the mine-cart part, ALWAYS hold the control stick up. You should have 1.20 - 1.30 when taking the first alternative route (left one). Then take the second alternative route (right one, after the yellow gem path) and still getting all time boxes. Avoid nitros, get all time boxes and the time should be 9.20 - 9.40 when you get out of the mine-cart. On the running part, avoid all spiky hazards - should be no problem if the timing is right. At the first time box that is high in the air, you need to slide jump and break the crate from its bottom. Alternatively, you can spin it after doing double jump, but this is a bit slower. Land on the other side of the spring crate and TNTs and keep running. Jump over the conveyor belt. At the TNTs and the time boxes, just spin the TNT to destroy all the boxes while keep running. Get the Aku Aku. Keep jumping over all conveyor belts. The only conveyor belt you don't need to jump is the first belt in the side scrolling section with green lasers on it as it moves favourably. At these green lasers, just run through all of them, losing one of your Aku Aku mask. From the last green laser, double jump and spin the 3 sec time box up high then fall down to the two 3 sec time boxes while spinning to break them plus the Aku Aku box nearby. The "invisible floor" glitch will work here. Quickly jump back up to the iron boxes when you have broken the time boxes. Alternatively, after you get the 3 sec time box up high, you can fall down on to the iron spring crate and from there, jump to the right side of the two 3 sec time boxes, land on the iron box, then spin the two 3 sec time boxes standing just beside them. This alternative method is arguably faster than the first method, however, you will not get the Aku Aku box (not really necessary). If you have done this properly, the next two crushers should not block your way. Otherwise, just wait until they move up. If you don't get block by the crushers, you will beat the Master Time easily. Next, jump on all the time boxes over the pit (preferably using small jumps) and to the black floor ahead. At the end of the side scrolling section of the level, you can dodge the mad scientist that throws blue things by running downwards passed him. Note that spinning will slow you down. Keep on running in the shortest route to the exit portal, ignoring all the green lasers. You may not have an Aku Aku mask here, which is not a problem. If the lasers hit you, you will get slow down a few milliseconds anyway, so you may want to restart trial to achieve the best time. Otherwise, if the laser does not hit you or you have an extra Aku Aku mask, you can keep on running to the exit portal to save your record and you may just beat the Master Time! oo---------oo | CREDITS | o-----------o - Thanks to Slazzy for the general strategy. oo-------oo | LINKS | o---------o 1. http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/1834/10259503ww4.jpg PlanesWalker -- 0:37.63 -- Screenshot 2. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v385/zippiz/DSC_0013-1.jpg Slazzy -- 0:38.56 -- Screenshot o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------o _______________________________________________________ oo===================================================oo [0306] | | | Level 6: JUNGLE RUMBLE | o_____________________________________________________o |=================o===================================| | Sapphire | 2:00.00 | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Gold | 1:20.00 (-0:40.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Platinum | 1:12.00 (-0:08.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Master time | 1:00.00 (-0:12.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | My time | 0:57.48 (-0:02.52) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Best time | 0:54.06 (-0:05.94) by. This can be done by getting the nearest Aku Aku box in time trial. Do this twice. Restart trial. Once you have a golden Aku Aku, cross the bridge before you hit the clock. Spin a man-eater plant here. Then take position just beside the third normal crate on its left and try to shoot the clock from there (see video on link #1 and #2). Right after you launch the bazooka to shoot the clock, immediately move the target a bit to the left to shoot the 3 sec time box just a short distance to the left of the clock. You need to do this as fast as possible to save time. This may take some practice to do, but once you know and get familiar with the specific pixel you need to stand on to shoot the clock (like in Level 4), you can learn where you should move the target of the bazooka in order to shoot the clock and the time box 90% of the time successfully. Once the trial has started, quickly run to the first box stack and do a double jump then spin to get the 2 sec time box up high. If you are lucky, your single spin may also crack the 1 sec time box below. If you are not so lucky, you will get bounce on the 1 sec time box which is a bit slower. Alternatively, you can slide jump and break the 2 sec time box from its bottom and then bounce on to the 1 sec time box. Nevertheless, you will still miss the Aku Aku box and land on the other side of the stack. Keep on running on the right corner (but don't get stuck) and double jump to break the next time box from the bottom part of the crate or just double jump and spin. Alternatively, you can slide jump to break this crate as shown in the video (link #1), which is faster. Time should be around 2 to 4 seconds now. Get invincibility from the next Aku Aku box. Normal jump to get the flying 2 sec time box on the left and small jump to the 1 sec time box. Keep on running. Then double jump to land on the second iron box stack and then double jump again to get the 3 sec time box up high. Time should be around 12-13 seconds now. Alternatively, you can slide double jump to get the 3 sec time box up high. This alternative way is faster but pretty hard to do. You can see the video (link #1) on how to do this and with this method, your time would freeze at around 11 seconds. Run around the corner (you can run on the stone) and then double jump to get the 3 sec time box up high. When you get this box, your invincibility should just run out. Then just spin the TNT to get the time box on its left and quickly small jump to a nitro on the right to get all the time boxes there. Keep on running while spinning the next two time boxes. Time should be around 14 to 15 seconds. Now is the jeep part. Avoid the first ramp by going over the pit. Get time box on the second and third ramps. Avoid the fifth ramp by going over the pit again. Get time box from the next ramp and steer the jeep to the left to avoid the next ramp and nitro. You can crash into the nitros on the big jump because you should have an extra Aku Aku at this point (as shown in the video on link #1). Alternatively, you can avoid nitros on the big jump by moving to the right a bit, and save the extra Aku Aku for later use. Get all the time boxes and avoid the water when you exit the tunnel. If you are lucky, you may be able to avoid the first ramp when the rhinos come back, but you will most likely fall into the pit, so take the ramp as quick and low as possible and do the same for the next one. Avoid nitro and get all time boxes. If you don't use your Aku Aku on the big jump, you can crash into the nitros here to stay on the right side. Before the end, drive to the right a bit so you will get thrown up from the jeep a bit earlier. Keep on running and spin the 3 sec time box. Time should be around 51 to 53 seconds here. Run across the bridge to the exit portal to save your record! Note that you may need some luck so you don't get slowed down by the movement of the bridge (Crash runs smoothly, like in the video on link #1). Slazzy | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | LTP | 0:18.90 (-0:00.60) | o=================o===================================o oo----------oo | STRATEGY | o------------o First of all, get yourself a golden Aku Aku mask. The Aku Aku box is right at the start so you can do this quickly. Once you get it, let's start time trial. Remember, in any underwater level with Crash swimming, the general rule for fastest time is that you MUST press X (jump button) and square (spin button) continuously for a complete tornado spin - not just a single spin or quick tornado spin - while still taking the shortest route possible and getting all the time boxes. Don't stop no matter what. Sometimes, you may need to time your spin so you don't get killed by the enemies and not get stuck behind crates. You will be surprised by how much this will save your time. So let's start. Get the invincibility and all the time boxes on the first part of the level. Be careful when you are inside the first straight tube. Keep on pressing X and square, but be careful not to go up or down too much since you may get stuck here. Keep going fast, down the next tube. Get the two time boxes and Aku Aku box as fast as possible. You should have around 3 seconds now. Keep on pressing X and square and get all the time boxes. When your invincibility end, there are two time boxes with two normal crates in between. To get these as fast as possible, just spin the bottom time box and move up immediately while still spinning and go to the next tube. Note that Fethy has lost few milliseconds in his video (link #1) in this part. Quickly get the time box in the tube. On the next part, DO NOT go and get the 2 sec time box and Aku Aku box on the left, like what Fethy did on his video (link #1). It wastes almost one second to do that. Just spin the TNT and get all the time boxes after that. Time should be around 7 seconds when you finish the swimming part. On the machine, use your X and square attack wisely to destroy enemies and boxes (see the video for visual aid). On the first part, just keep pressing right to move the machine on the straightest route possible. On the last tube that goes down, keep pressing X to get all the time boxes below, including the one at the bottom just after the tube so you don't have to go there to break it which will waste you a second. Then go to the left and keep the machine as close as possible to the iron boxes. Drop a torpedo to destroy the nitro stack and time boxes at the bottom, touch the switch box and drop another torpedo to get another time box under a normal crate inside the second iron box opening. Note that the time should be frozen for the rest of the level from the moment you drop a torpedo to the first nitro stack. Get the time boxes while dropping another torpedo to destroy nitros so you can pass the iron boxes. Keep on moving left, getting all the time boxes and get to the exit portal while the time is still frozen. This can be done by doing the time trial and get an Aku Aku mask from the crate just before the maze. Do this twice and you should get a golden Aku Aku mask if you don't die or get hit by the many hazards in this level. Alternatively, you can bring in a golden Aku Aku mask from another level which is NOT recommended. Once you have the mask, restart trial. Then get the clock while trying to kick the 1 sec time box nearby. Small jump over the pit. Get the hidden 3 sec time box with ONE kick in the box stack to the right. Small jump every pit. Kick the 2 sec time box, then immediately small jump through the circular hole. Then normal jump on to the time boxes. Do this once more. Get all the time boxes. Do a normal jump while kicking the Aku Aku to get invincibility. Kick the TNT to get the time box. Then normal jump to the maze. Time should be 4.20 - 4.60 now. Cut corner in the maze and kick the first time box to save time (even when you have invincibility). Your invincibility should last until a bit just after the first ninja. Then, THIS IS IMPORTANT, kick the next ninja so he got thrown to the time box on top of the nitro on the right side. If the ninja did not crack the box, just restart trial unless you want to practice for the later part of this level. In his video (link #1), Fethy did not do this successfully which means he should be able to save 1 to 2 seconds. The frozen time should be at around 10 seconds now. Then kick all the lizards and get the time boxes below. Quit the maze and be careful with the fish on the first pit. Only kick if it comes out because kicking wastes a few milliseconds. Quickly normal jump to the spring crate and press X (jump button) exactly at the time you land on the spring crate. Your jump should go higher so you can kick the two time boxes up high in one go by going a bit to the front (see video on link #1). Next, avoid the ninja and kick the two lizards with one kick - twice if you are not so lucky. Now, get the two 1 sec time boxes as fast as possible by jumping and kicking or just break them one by one by jumping to the bottom part of the crates. Alternatively, you can ignore one of the 1 sec time boxes and just run straight after you break one of them. The alternative method is a bit slower but easier. Move down a bit before small jumping over the pit so the pelican would not ruin your jump. Then kick the box stack once to destroy all. Small jump to the brown platforms and then to the next platform. Be careful with the fish. Kick the normal crate and small jump to the 1 sec time box. With the bounce from this crate, crack the flying 3 sec time box from its bottom. To do this, you must press X (jump button) exactly at the time you land on the 1 sec time box, so the jump you do will be a bit higher - high enough to break that 3 sec time box. Better press the X a little too soon than a little too late. You need some practice to do this properly (see video on link #1). Do NOT kick while doing this. Otherwise, you may hit nitros below. Alternatively, you can kick the 1 sec time box and then small jump to the iron spring crate to get the 3 sec time box up high. This alternative method is a bit slower. Move on and kick the ninja. Normal jump over the pit to land on top of the time box and bounce to the other side of the nitro. Normal jump into the circular opening and avoid the gong hitters. Then kick the nitro on the next box stack, so you get another Aku Aku at the moment you lost one. Then small jump to the iron spring crate. Do only one jump from the red trampoline to the roof. Kick Aku Aku box to get invincibility. Get the time boxes, small jump over all the fire, then normal jump to the first red trampoline so you can get to the second red trampoline with one jump. Do two jumps on the second trampoline. One to get the 3 sec time box, and the next one is to get to the next roof. At the end of the roof, do a normal jump to the bottom, then quickly small jump over all the pits. Get the time box up high using the spring crate and kick the spring crate before you land so you don't get bounce up again. Normal jump passed the fire and kick the normal crate. Then quickly run upwards and kick the TNT to get the time box. The time should be frozen from here on. Kick normal crates that blocking your way and fall down to nitro to get all the time boxes immediately. Kick the TNT and normal crate, and run to the exit portal before the time got unfrozen. When the time trial start, quickly shoot the far north ship once more, then take the time box on your right. Then walk in the electric water, getting all time boxes including taking the 3 sec time box up high with double jump. Don't get stuck behind any iron boxes. Small jump to the last iron boxes platform before your invincibility runs out. Avoid the mad scientists. Small jump over the nitro line. Run on the right side of the box stack, then do a normal jump to bounce on a time box and land on the next iron boxes platform. Do this once more. Then avoid enemies, slide into time boxes below TNTs and spin Aku Aku box to get invincibility again. Crash into every time boxes and run on the electric water to get all time boxes. Before the invincibility runs out, you will notice there is a 1 sec time box on top of a steel crate. Note that there is a 3 sec time box up high in this spot. This box is very easy to miss since you can't see it unless you do a double jump. Double jump when bouncing from the 1 sec time box below to get this up high 3 sec time box. Alternatively, if your invincibility has not finished yet, just do a slide double jump to get the 3 sec time box and fall down to the 1 sec time box below. Then move on, spin all the boxes ahead with one spin. Get all time boxes and spin eels on your way. Then quickly get the three time boxes on top of a spring crate to stop the time for the rest of the level. Avoid lasers and get few more time boxes before running to the exit portal. DONE! Another Master Time has been beaten! Slazzy | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | LTP | 0:09.90 (-0:02.52) | o=================o===================================o oo----------oo | STRATEGY | o------------o First of all, get yourself a golden Aku Aku mask. There is an Aku Aku box near the start, so just start time trial then restart trial to get the two Aku Aku masks. Shoot the clock with bazooka from just in front of the second trap that you can fall down in. You may want to note or count how much time you have spent waiting before shooting the clock. This way you can learn the movement of the blocking hazards in this level, so they will not block your way again once you know the specific timing. The timing is around 20 seconds from the time you begin the level. You may need to adjust it a bit to match your speed in doing this level. Alternatively, you can shoot the clock from behind the second floor trap, so you can see the movements of the three anchor obstacles and make them as your time reference. The timing for this alternative method is when the third anchor (the most-behind one) is doing its third or fourth drawing back, counted from the fastest moment you can see these anchors. It will be more difficult to shoot the clock using this alternative method. You may also want to try to shoot the 2 sec time box on the left of the clock, right after you shoot the clock. If done properly, this may save you up to half a second. Right before the clock was hit by your bazooka (whether you choose to take the 2 sec time box or not), quickly run and spin to get an Aku Aku, then double jump and spin the 3 sec up high. By the time you spin the box up high, it should have turned into time box. With your invincibility, blast through the first part of the level. Do a double jump twice up the stairs and a small jump over the pit after that. Get all time boxes. The hammer should not block your way. The platform should come out, so you can just do small jump twice and fall down to a platform below to get all the time boxes there. Then quickly move up with the two iron spring crates and do a double jump while bouncing from the last iron spring crate to get a time box up high. The spiky walls should not block your way if you have done your timing correctly. On the next part, don't touch any nitros here. The crusher should be going up here. Get all time boxes. Spin the ones under the TNT and the TNT will blow up the ones on top of it, while you run and spin a few time boxes inside the room. Then double jump and spin the time box up high. Keep running and fall down to the platform below (no need to jump). The time should still freeze at around 8 seconds here. Again, avoid all hazards, get all time boxes and don't jump. Just touch any nitro to get all the time boxes on top of the nitro line. Then get an Aku Aku with a double jump and a single spin on the right side of the box, then land on the other side of the pit. Do double jump twice up the stairs. On the next part, ignore the 3 sec time box below; just quickly get a 1 sec time box with a double jump and a spin. Land on top of the iron boxes and spin the 2 sec time box. Alternatively, you can slide under the iron boxes to get the 3 sec time box and quickly move back to get the 1 sec and 2 sec time boxes on the top. The alternative method is arguably faster by a few milliseconds. From here, double jump to land on the higher platform. Then do a double jump after bouncing from the TNT to get the two time boxes up high. Then do a small jump pass the pit, spin the normal crate, do a normal jump pass another pit and then spin the TNT stack near time boxes to destroy everything, but you will loss your Aku Aku, which is not a problem. Then, do double jump twice up the stairs. If the spiky walls are blocking your way, come out a bit to pass it from the front (see video on link #1 for visual aid). Then do a double jump to get the time boxes on the flying platform and hopefully the crusher is going up so you can pass and run to the exit portal. If the crusher is blocking your way, go and break the time boxes on the left side of the spiky wall, so the time will stay frozen and when you get back to the crusher, it will not block your way anymore. oo---------oo | CREDITS | o-----------o - Thanks to Fethy for the video. - Thanks to Slazzy for the "bazookaing" technique and alternative way at the end if the crusher is blocking your way. oo-------oo | LINKS | o---------o 1. http://youtube.com/watch?v=TCgV-MLZ_k0 Fethy -- 0:16.22 -- Full Run Video 2. http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/5246/imgp0001pd3.jpg Fethy -- 0:22.32 -- Screenshot o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------o _______________________________________________________ oo===================================================oo [0312] | | | Level 12: TSUNAMI | o_____________________________________________________o |=================o===================================| | Sapphire | 1:30.00 | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Gold | 0:50.00 (-0:40.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Platinum | 0:40.00 (-0:10.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Master time | 0:32.00 (-0:08.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | My time | 0:30.70 (-0:01.30) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Best time | 0:30.78 (-0:01.22) by. There is one Aku Aku box right at the beginning, so just start a time trial, spin it and restart trial. Repeat and rinse. To start off, let the first wheelbarrow guy goes pass you first. Then just touch the very side of the clock and kick the time boxes on the left. Ignore the Aku Aku crate and kick the time box ahead. Time should be 1.10 - 1.20 here. Alternatively, you can kick the Aku Aku crate first before getting the clock, run back and take the clock. Kick the time boxes on the left and then just blast through the next part with your invincibility. The alternative method is faster by up to 8 milliseconds. Avoid a wheelbarrow guy and run just beside the fence. Invincibility should finish now if you do the alternative method. Kick the next time box and the enemy, then quickly jump to the spring crate, kick the time box up high (timing is very important here), land on the next platform, avoid the enemy (need some luck), get another time box up high, kick another enemy if necessary and do small jumps over all the pits until you get to Coco's scooter. One thing to note here, on the first small boat, there is a jumping lizard. You need to kick this lizard on to the time box below the TNT stack at the back of the next platform. This is pretty hard to do, so you may need some practice in order to know what angle you need to take while jumping and kicking the lizard in order to do this successfully. Now on the scooter. Cut corners, get all time boxes, avoid all wheelbarrow guys and you should get to the end with no problem. If you get hit by a wheelbarrow guy, don't worry, it doesn't really matter (as long as you have at least one Aku Aku mask, which you should have). When you get down from the scooter, quickly kick the last time box here. Time should be 29.50 - 30.00 now. Then, just run as straight as possible to the exit portal. Note that Coco would occasionally (quite often) miss the exit portal if you run just a bit too up or too down when entering the mist, so you may loss a second or more if this happens to you. If everything is ok, then the Master Time should not be a problem for you! oo---------oo | CREDITS | o-----------o - Thanks to Fethy for the video and alternative starting method. oo-------oo | LINKS | o---------o 1. http://youtube.com/watch?v=ZOoWvzHp6iU Fethy -- 0:31.06 -- Full Run Video o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------o _______________________________________________________ oo===================================================oo [0313] | | | Level 13: SMOKEY AND THE BANDICOOT | o_____________________________________________________o |=================o===================================| | Sapphire | 1:20.00 | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Gold | 1:10.00 (-0:10.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Platinum | 1:00.00 (-0:10.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Master time | 0:44.00 (-0:16.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | My time | 0:41.90 (-0:02.10) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Best time | 0:40.88 (-0:03.12) by. Then start moving. This way you won't get stuck behind an opponent when you try to take the first speed boost. Then just race! Few things to consider in order to get the best time: - You don't need to use any other button, other than the X button (jump button). Always hold down the X button! - You have to finish first in the race to get your time count for time trial. This means you can't wait for the enemies to clear first. They will not be in your way anyway, so just start as prompted above. - Don't touch any of the opponents. - Get all the time boxes. - Get all the speed boosts, except the last one behind a ramp. Avoid that ramp too. The third last speed boost (just before a 3 sec time box) is pretty hard to get, because you need to use the bumps (the uneven road just at the edge of the pit) to jump to the speed boost. You also need some luck to get it. - You should press the turn button before the turn begins in order to cut corners and save more time, i.e. you should begin to turn pretty early. You should do this in almost all the turns in this level. Here are all the frozen times on a typical 41 seconds run. Allow some range between 0.02 to 0.20 above or below each frozen time listed (except the first one): 2.06; 5.84; 7.44; 17.64; 23.46; 26.68; 27.00; 35.30; 40.94 Thanks to Slazzy for providing this info. oo---------oo | CREDITS | o-----------o - Thanks to Slazzy for the general strategy and providing the frozen times info. oo-------oo | LINKS | o---------o None yet. o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------o _______________________________________________________ oo===================================================oo [0314] | | | Level 14: ESKIMO ROLL | o_____________________________________________________o |=================o===================================| | Sapphire | 1:25.00 | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Gold | 0:45.00 (-0:40.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Platinum | 0:34.00 (-0:11.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Master time | 0:20.00 (-0:14.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | My time | 0:19.20 (-0:00.80) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Best time | 0:15.42 (-0:04.58) by. Move to the left and roll down the hill, take the clock and jump over the pit COMPLETELY, so you should roll down across the bridge with fast speed. You should have 0.30 - 0.80 when you get the first time box on the other side of the bridge. Pass Tiny from above and avoid the spinning penguin. Quickly roll down the hill, take all the time boxes while conserving your speed to go up the hill. On top of the hill, use the fence (there is a 1 sec time box here) to go right while conserving the speed and quickly roll and get all the time boxes on the way. After getting the time box beside the small lake, your time should be around 5 seconds. Roll over the penguin and pass the pit from the right side. Get both 2 sec and 3 sec time boxes while going down the hill. Ignore the 1 sec time box after this downhill. Instead roll directly to the 1 sec time box near the first Dingodile. Using the bump on the ice, quickly go ahead while conserving your speed. Alternatively, you may get the 1 sec time box after the second downhill. If you roll as fast and as well as possible while conserving your speed to the next 1 sec time box near the first Dingodile, you may save a few milliseconds using this alternative method. Pass both spinning penguins from their left while getting all the time boxes. On the next section, roll quickly to the path on the left. Be careful, you may get hit by the second Dingodile's fire quite often here. If you survive, just quickly roll on this next ice path. Don't get hung up by the bumps on your left, but get the time box here by touching the side of the box. Roll over and get all time boxes. On the part where there are two bumps leading to a 3 sec time box, just roll into the bump quickly and you will get launch to the time box without losing too much time and speed. If the timing is right, the first moving platform should lead you to the middle platform. The second moving platform should also be in line with the middle platform so just roll over all these platforms as fast as possible. If the third moving platform is missing, i.e. is not in line with the other two, you can still roll over to the other side if you roll very fast. On the next part, just quickly roll without falling down to the ice while taking all the time boxes. First, take the right route, then avoid blue beam shot by N. Tropy and take the left route. Get the last 2 sec time box by rolling pass the pits without being slowed down. If you are lucky, you can roll pass the last big pit without being slowed down. Then just aim for the mist in that exit portal. Note that you would often miss this exit mist, ruining your great run... But if you succeed in getting to the exit, you should be able to beat the Master Time. oo---------oo | CREDITS | o-----------o - Thanks to Slazzy and Fethy for the general strategy, starting timing and about the moving platform bits. oo-------oo | LINKS | o---------o None yet. o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------o _______________________________________________________ oo===================================================oo [0315] | | | Level 15: FAHRENHEIT FRENZY | o_____________________________________________________o |=================o===================================| | Sapphire | 2:00.00 | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Gold | 1:20.00 (-0:40.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Platinum | 1:10.00 (-0:10.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Master time | 0:50.00 (-0:20.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | My time | 0:45.80 (-0:04.20) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Best time | 0:45.98 (-0:04.02) by. You can find one at the running part just after the first enemy that shoots green things at you. There is an Aku Aku box up high. You can get it by double jump after bouncing from the spring crate below. Restart trial and do this again to get a golden Aku Aku mask. Alternatively, you can get this from another level which is NOT recommended. Once you have the golden Aku Aku, restart trial. Wait for a moment before you start to get a correct timing for the later part of the level. Now, start time trial by touching the very top side of the clock. Quickly spin all the time boxes once without being stopped by them. Spin normal crate that is in your way. Avoid the green lasers and spin the 2 sec time box after that. Then do a tornado spin to destroy the many boxes including the time boxes there. Time should be 1.10 - 1.70 here. Avoid green lasers and cut corners. Spin the remaining time boxes. When you get the last time box on copter pak part, your time should be 11.20 - 11.70. Now on to the running part. If the timing is right, the fire from the side should just come out when you land on the platform, so when you get there, the fire should just cease and so you can cut corner, saving almost half a second. Pass through the enemy on the side where he is not shooting at. Don't lost your Aku Aku here. Avoid all hazards. Spin the time box under the iron boxes, then quickly double jump to break the 2 sec time box from its bottom. Quickly small jump to the conveyor belt and do another small jump as the belt is moving against you. Spin the 1 sec time box, then quickly double jump to get the 3 sec time box up high without being stuck behind a flying normal crate. Then run on the left side, small jump the pit and spin the invincibility crate to pass through all the green lasers. Do a normal jump to break the flying 3 sec time box from its bottom. Avoid the enemy. Just before you enter into the tube, do a double jump and spin to get the 1 sec time box up high. You should land on a spring crate and being bounced up again. While bouncing up, move a bit to the front and so you can spin both Aku Aku crate and 3 sec time box at the same time. With your invincibility, the spring crate should get destroyed when you land on it. The crusher should not block your way if the timing is right. Quickly run through the tube with your invincibility. Get the next time box, small jump over the pits and the invincibility should end when you finish taking both time boxes on the next side scrolling section. Run through the X-ray tube, getting all time boxes and don't get hit by anything. The last crusher may block you for a second so you can slow down a bit while jumping over all the nitros and try not to get hit by the mad scientist. Then spin the Aku Aku box to get another invincibility. Crash through all the boxes after the tube, small jump over the pit and small jump on the conveyor belt as it moves against you. Your invincibility should last until after you crash into the nitro and time box stack. In the next tube, get the invincibility crate and pass through all the green lasers. Remember to do a small jump on the belt that moves against you. Then quickly run and small jump over some more pits to finish the level. If you get hit by something here, you may waste a few milliseconds, but it is going to be alright and you would still have a chance to beat the Master Time if you don't get hung up too long in the crushers. oo---------oo | CREDITS | o-----------o - None. oo-------oo | LINKS | o---------o None yet. o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------o _______________________________________________________ oo===================================================oo [0316] | | | Level 16: AVALANCHE | o_____________________________________________________o |=================o===================================| | Sapphire | 1:35.00 | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Gold | 1:05.00 (-0:30.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Platinum | 0:50.33 (-0:14.67) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Master time | 0:45.00 (-0:05.33) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | My time | 0:42.26 (-0:02.74) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Best time | 0:42.40 (-0:02.60) by. There is an Aku Aku box just before the ice part and another one right before the skiing part. Once you get the golden Aku Aku, restart trial and notice that there are 4 apples near the clock. You have to kick the fourth one and throw it into the clock (see video on link #1 for visual aid). This is very hard to do, so if you are getting frustrated that you can't get this done, then you may want to try to kick the third apple instead. The third apple method is easier, but is a bit slower. When you start, quickly jump to the spring crate to get the time box up high, then kick while falling down to destroy all the boxes below including the time box and spring crate. Then avoid the spinning penguins and ice skaters. Kick the two time boxes, then jump on top of the TNT to crack the time box. Alternatively, you can do a normal jump then just kick the time box on top of the TNT. The alternative way is faster. Normal jump to the second platform, then small jump to the ground on the other side. Then do two small jumps to pass the next set of platforms. Kick the time box and jump to the spring crate. Remember to press X (jump button) exactly at the time you land on the spring crate so your jump will be higher. Move to the front a bit while jumping to kick both Aku Aku box and the time box with one kick. With your invincibility, you should not get bounce up again. Then quickly slide on the ice and just crash into any box in your way with your invincibility. Jump twice to cut corners. Your invincibility should finish when you have done sliding on ice. Pass the nitro from the left and ignore the Aku Aku box on the other side. Then kick the last time box before you go skiing. Time should be around 25.50 - 26.50 seconds now. Onto the skiing part. There is nothing much to say here. Just cut corners, don't get stuck, get all the time boxes and don't get hit by nitros more than once. There are two tricky bits. The first one is at the part where there are two nitros and a time box after that. It's quite difficult to not get hit by the nitros, but with some practice you should be able to do this. Getting hit by nitros will only slow you down a few milliseconds so it should not be a problem. The second tricky part is at the two 1 sec time boxes where there is also a small hill. You may miss one or both time boxes if you don't know that there is this small hill, so move accordingly as if there is a folding space there. Again, with practice you should be able to do this easily. When you finish skiing, quickly run to the exit portal. I think running on the left side of the nitro switch box is a bit faster than the way shown in the video (link #1) but the chance of getting stuck is higher. Then once again, you need some luck so you would get into the mist in the exit portal as soon as possible, otherwise you may waste a lot of time and ruin your run - and this happens quite often. If you haven't got any, you can start the time trial, and get your Aku Aku on the first monkey bar. Once you have an Aku Aku mask, restart trial. To start off, go stand behind the first few boxes you see in this level. From there, use your bazooka to shoot the clock. It should be easy to do this. Quickly spin the time box and normal jump to the next platform. Then spin another time box and small jump to the next platform. Run pass the iron spring crate and do a small double jump instead. The purpose of this is to get as far down the monkey bar as possible because you move VERY SLOWLY while hanging. Quickly spin the 3 sec time box. Time should be 2.10 - 2.80 now. Move along the bar. Spin the time box AND Aku Aku box with one spin. Ignore the two 2 sec time boxes on the left because taking them is actually slowing you down! Time should be 9.10 - 9.80 now. Still hanging, move to the left way. Then, when the robot comes close to you, quickly press X (jump button) to get off from the bar. You should touch the robot while falling down, so you will lose an Aku Aku mask... BUT now you can walk on the "invisible floor" below. Quickly double jump and spin the 2 sec time box before your "invincible-after-taking-hit" wear off. Spin the next time box and an Aku Aku box. Now, small jump to the bottom electric monkey bar (don't hang). Do a normal jump and spin the two 1 sec time boxes with one spin. Then, touch the nitro to get all the time boxes. Jump to get 1 sec time box soon after that. Note that you don't really need to care about the electric in this part because you are going to get hit once anyway. BUT, don't use all your Aku Aku. Use one only. Then, from the right of the last iron boxes on the bottom monkey bar, do a small double jump to get to the next platform, preferably without touching the top monkey bar. Get the time boxes. Then normal jump to the mech. Time should be 22.00 - 22.90 now. Walk on the right side, getting a time box and avoid the mad scientist. Then quickly shoot the nitro up high to make a way for you. Do a normal jump to pass the iron boxes. Keep walking on the right side. Get all the time boxes here and break Aku Aku box. Keep walking on the right side, ignoring the 1 sec time box on the left. Then, get all time boxes and avoid all hazards. At the part where there are many nitros and scientists, just touch one of the nitro and everything will be gone. Moving on quickly and don't get hit by anything. On the last iron box stack, you don't have to shoot anything, just jump from the right side and get the 2 sec time box behind. By the time you get the first time box in the box stack on the side scrolling section, the time should be frozen until the end. Jump over all the pits and get all time boxes. Just crash the nitro, losing your Aku Aku to move faster. To get the 3 sec time box up high, you need to bounce from the enemy below. Then move on, and don't forget there is a pit right before the exit portal. If you are not careful, you may fall down. Alternatively, you can use your Aku Aku in the first iron box stack while on the mech, but be very careful at the end, because if you don't time your jump precisely, you may still get hit by the nitro in the side scrolling section later on. This alternative method is a lot harder but is a bit faster. Congrats! S = where you start C = clock to start time trial xxxx = the "black hole" bug Note: NOT TO SCALE So, basically we are forced to destroy the satellite in the order I have put because you can't go from 1 to 3 (there is a "black hole"). To get the best time, you need to destroy the red satellites from 1 to 2 to 3 while getting few time boxes on the way, then get all time boxes when you shoot the blue satellite, also from 1 to 2 to 3. Be careful when you go back from 3 to 1 because you may get suck into the black hole if you didn't destroy the red satellited on 3 fast enough. However, there is a VERY BIG glitch in this level, so you don't actually have to do anything above. Basically you can destroy all the red satellites (all nine - three on each) before shooting the clock to start the time trial, but you have to CRASH into them (instead of shooting them). This will cost you 25% health for each red satellite, so just get some health boxes in between. There are 4 health boxes, so if you get 50% health from each (by shooting the box, not the balloon - see next paragraph), you will have more than enough health to crash all nine! Just be careful not to crash any meteor (cost you 30%) or any other enemies' planes (cost you 25%). Here are some information about the health balloon: +50% health if you shoot the box from far away +25% health if you shoot the balloon +1 Life if you shoot the box when you are too close +1 Life if you crash into the box (without shooting) So, you will start the time trial with only 75% health if everything went perfectly (after crashing to all nine, and getting 50% health from all health boxes). Therefore, you can actually survive two suicide enemies and a few bullets. Don't shoot other normal crates before the time trial start because they will turn into time boxes! The enemies can be annoying but you must bear with them, and also you still need to avoid that "black hole". Note that the clock will disappear if you shoot the red satellites, so you will not be able to start time trial. That's why you should crash into them instead of shooting them. BUT there is another BIG GLITCH. You can shoot and destroy the blue satellites and the clock will still be there. This means, with full exploitation of this glitch, when you start the time trial there will be only one almost-destroyed blue satellite you need to shoot at! To get the best time, you should destroy all the blue satellites, except no 2. Shoot 2 a few times until you feel that you almost destroy it. Then from there, go in the direction of the clock, then from as far as possible, quickly shoot the clock, turn around and shoot the closest time box (NOT the balloon) as soon as possible. Then get few more time boxes before destroying the satellite, just to make sure the time stays frozen. Alternatively, you can shoot at the blue balloonish thing (NOT the box) that is closest to the clock just before you turn around and shoot the clock. The box takes about 5 seconds to fall from the blue balloon and break at the bottom. Shoot the clock RIGHT BEFORE the box breaks so you get the time freeze! If you have done this properly (and are really lucky like Slazzy), the box will break JUST when the clock was shot, giving you a frozen time of only about a few milliseconds. You may even have a chance to get the LTP (2 milliseconds)! Quickly shoot down all the nearest time boxes to keep the time freeze before shooting down the last blue satellite to keep the record! Thanks to Slazzy for this insanely fast (but difficult!) alternative way. Note that you need 40 shots to destroy a blue satellite, so if you want just a single shot to complete the level, you can just shot the last satellite 39 times by counting each shot or just look at your wumpa numbers (since you get 1 wumpa for each shot to the satellite). DONE! You should beat the Master Time quite easily with full exploitation of this glitch! Just some information to those who don't like to glitch their way to get the best time in this level: my best time without using any part of this glitch was 35.54 seconds. oo---------oo | CREDITS | o-----------o - Thanks to Fethy for health balloon information. - Thanks to Slazzy for exploiting this glitch even more by informing us that we can shoot and destroy the blue satellites even before we start the time trial. - Thanks to Slazzy for maximising the exploitation of this glitch and show us a way to beat the LTP for this level. oo-------oo | LINKS | o---------o 1. http://img75.imageshack.us/img75/778/0603071025vp7.jpg Xcarvenger -- 0:02.60 -- Screenshot 2. http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/1643/18fi2.jpg PlanesWalker -- 0:35.11 -- Screenshot o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------o _______________________________________________________ oo===================================================oo [0319] | | | Level 19: CORAL CANYON | o_____________________________________________________o |=================o===================================| | Sapphire | 1:14.17 | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Gold | 0:56.37 (-0:17.80) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Platinum | 0:48.58 (-0:07.79) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Master time | 0:30.00 (-0:18.58) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | My time | 0:24.80 (-0:05.20) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Best time | 0:28.56 (-0:01.44) by. It isn't necessary, but may be helpful if you have one or two Aku Aku. You can get one Aku Aku just before the second jellyfish line. Then restart trial and go there again to get the second one. Before starting the time trial, go and destroy the two blue tentacles near the clock. Then go to the hole where the first tentacle was, and from there shoot the clock while moving to get the first few time boxes nearby (see video on link #1 for visual aid). Get all time boxes and keep moving. On the next tentacle, just drop a torpedo as soon as you pass on it so the tentacle will not touch your machine and you can keep on moving. Avoid all dropping anchors and get all time boxes. Time should stay frozen at 0.02 - 0.20. Next, shoot the swimmer and drop a torpedo into the iron box opening below to destroy the nitro and so also destroy all the time boxes there. Shoot the fat fish and get the time box. Don't get the Aku Aku because it wastes time. Moving on, avoid all hazards, shoot some fish, get all time boxes, drop torpedo to time boxes below. Shoot the last few anchors and now you should get to the swimming part of the level. Remember to keep pressing X (jump button) and square (spinning button) continuously while swimming. Quickly spin the first time box you see. From here on, the time should be frozen for the rest of the level. Get all time boxes and the two Aku Aku boxes. You may get invincibility here, but it doesn't really make any differences since the time would still freeze until the end anyway. That's why you don't need to start the trial with a golden Aku Aku. Keep on swimming. Get ALL the time boxes. Don't forget the secret chamber to the left just after the second drop down. There are 15 seconds worth of time boxes there! You may lose your first Aku Aku on the iron boxes with two 1 sec time boxes in between. Spin through and you will lose your Aku Aku or just spin then quickly move back and go on top of the falling iron boxes. Only do the second way if you don't have a Golden Aku Aku mask because the second way is slower. However, if you haven't made too many mistakes, the time should still freeze until the end. On the next part, there are two time boxes you may not see; they are hidden inside the tall green sea grass. Spin them both. Then, you may lose your second Aku Aku on the last falling anchor. If you don't have an Aku Aku for whatever reasons, you can wait for the anchor to fall first before moving down. If you haven't made too many mistakes in the early part of the swimming section, the time should still freeze until the end. Note that you can make a few mistakes (possibly around 3 to 5 seconds worth of mistakes) in the swimming part as the time will still freeze until the end anyway, e.g. the video (on link #1) has several mistakes, but the time still freeze when he finished. But don't make too many mistakes! You should be able to beat the Master Time in no time. oo---------oo | CREDITS | o-----------o - Thanks to Fethy for the video. oo-------oo | LINKS | o---------o 1. http://youtube.com/watch?v=nBTwAUPiqBc Fethy -- 0:28.56 -- Full Run Video o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------o _______________________________________________________ oo===================================================oo [0320] | | | Level 20: WEATHERING HEIGHTS | o_____________________________________________________o |=================o===================================| | Sapphire | 1:37.34 | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Gold | 1:01.65 (-0:35.69) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Platinum | 0:54.08 (-0:07.57) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Master time | 0:20.00 (-0:34.08) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | My time | 0:16.86 (-0:03.14) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Best time | 0:15.96 (-0:04.04) by. You may also want to get just one Aku Aku mask. If you decided to get a golden Aku Aku mask, you MUST get hit by something (most likely the spinning fan) before the first monkey bar. Otherwise, you will get an invincibility and the "invisible floor" glitch will not work. To get the two Aku Aku boxes, just start a time trial and there is one Aku Aku box inside the 5 TNTs just before the first spinning fan, and another one is located just before the first monkey bar. To start off time trial, stand beside the first box and shoot the clock from there. Then quickly spin this box which has now turned into a time box. Then get all the time boxes nearby. Do a small jump over the pit. Get all three time boxes beside a TNT with one spin (plus the robot if it is in the way). Do another small jump. Then do a normal jump to the time box, another normal jump over the pit to the next time box and double jump to get the time box up high. Run on the right side of the enemy and run towards the spinning fan, ignoring the Aku Aku box and 5 TNTs on the left side. If the fan is spinning, slide on its left or right side. You may lose an Aku Aku here which is to be expected. If you don't lose an Aku Aku here (and you bring in a golden Aku Aku mask), you need to crash into the next scientist so you won't get invincibility from the next Aku Aku box. Spin all boxes on the enemy's left, then do a small jump while touching the robot so you can walk on an "invisible floor". Then quickly jump to the second iron boxes platform. From the end of the platform, do a small jump again while touching the robot so you can walk on another "invisible floor"! Quickly jump to the next platform and do a tornado spin to get all the time boxes at the back and front. Small jump over the pit and small jump to the spring crate to get the 3 sec time box up high. Normal jump to TNT which will bounce you to the next platform. Do a double jump and quick tornado spin to get all the flying time boxes. Then do a small double jump to pass the pit without hanging onto the bar. On the next section, small jump over all the pits while getting all the time boxes and avoid all hazards. The time should still freeze at 6.40 - 6.90 here. Then small jump on the first two green lasers, and slide under the third one. Do normal jumps to pass the next two green lasers from the right side, followed by a small jump over another laser and just slide under the next one. Get the invincibility crate and just blast through all the lasers. You may want to spin an Aku Aku box here, but it wastes almost half a second by taking it. Either way, you need to pass some spinning fans after that. The frozen time you get after breaking the first time box under the first spinning fan is the time you should have at the end. If you didn't get the Aku Aku box previously, don't touch any part of the fans even while they are not spinning, because then you would die and need to restart trial! You need some luck so the fan does not spin when you pass there (like in the video on link #1). If you choose to get an Aku Aku, you can slide under the fan while it spins. On the last part where there are many nitros and one green laser, if you don't have an Aku Aku, you may want to double jump just to make sure you don't touch any. The time will still freeze if you have done everything correctly. If you still have an Aku Aku (not getting hit by the fan), you can just normal jump pass everything. Then double jump and spin the 3 sec time box up high. One Aku Aku mask is fine. However, you must not get hit if you only have one Aku Aku mask (getting hit will slow you down anyway, so one Aku Aku may be preferable by some). You need to shoot the clock with the bazooka from the box stack nearby. When the time trial started, spin all the boxes with one spin and also do a double jump to break the time box up high. Avoid all enemies (only spin if they are on your way - note that spinning wastes a few milliseconds). Get all time boxes. Go pass the nitros from the right side. Small jump to the first platform on the lava. Then do another small jump, followed by a normal jump, and another small jump to the solid ground. Keep moving, and do only small jump. Do a normal jump to pass the blue pipes. You can do small jump but the timing is pretty hard to do. Ignore the Aku Aku box, but just double jump and spin the time box up high. Next, do a small/normal double jump with or without a tornado spin, depends on where the moving platform is. Avoid nitros and spin the time box. The time should be 29.50 - 30.50 here. Keep on moving. Get the time box and Aku Aku box. You may go invincible here, but it doesn't make any significant difference. Then, you must not get hit by the falling ball. Spin the 1 sec time box, then immediately double jump to the top platform. Do two double jumps up the stairs and a small jump at the end. Then get invincibility here. Do small jumps over all the pits. Get the two time boxes up high with one jump. Then do a couple of small jumps to the other side of the lava flow. You can crash into the nitro or just run on its right side. Get the remaining time boxes. And then, quickly run to the exit portal. There is one Aku Aku box up high near the beginning. Restart trial to get two. Then restart trial again to start a proper time trial run. Stand just beside the two stacked boxes near the start. From there, shoot the clock with bazooka and quickly spin the boxes that have now turned into time boxes. Then, avoid spiky balls and run on the right side to avoid the bird. Slide into the two 1 sec time boxes to avoid getting blown up by the two TNTs. Then do a double jump and spin both time box and Aku Aku box with one spin. With invincibility, blast through all the enemies and time boxes, also small jump over all the pits. Time should be 10.10 - 10.50 when your invincibility runs out. On the side scrolling section, spin the time box, small jump over a TNT and then spin a donkey on your way. Then do a normal jump to the time box and bounce to the time box up high. Time should be around 13 seconds now. Get the next two time boxes by using tornado spin, then quickly jump to the second platform while still spinning (different from video on link #1). From there, do a small double jump to the fourth platform and a small jump to the ground. Keep on running and normal jump pass the nitro line. Then do a double jump and spin both time box and Aku Aku box up high. You should now have invincibility again. Time should be around 18.70 - 19.10 seconds here. Small jump over the pits and crash into time boxes with your invincibility. Now here is one of the trickiest parts in this level. Do a small double jump to get as far as possible on the monkey bar. Your invincibility should crack the 2 sec time box on the monkey bar before it runs out (different from the video on link #1). Then quickly drop down to the sand platform and do a small jump to get the next 2 sec time box. Ignore the 1 sec time box. Instead, do a small double jump again to get as far as possible on the next monkey bar (different from video on link #1). Move towards the 2 time boxes at the front and spin both boxes while dropping to the next sand platform. Do a small double jump over the next pit and avoid touching the bar. Now jump to the push mine-cart and keep pressing X (jump button) to move the cart faster. You should have around 34 to 35 seconds when you take the last time box on the cart. After the cart, do a small double jump again to the bar. Spin the normal crate, time box and the enemy once each. Drop down to the platform below and do a small jump to get to the other side without touching the next bar. Quickly spin the normal crate that is in your way before landing and also the time box. Time should be around 39 to 41 seconds here. Keep on running. Don't lose your Aku Aku here. Slide under the TNT to get time box and invincibility. Then keep running and do a double jump to get the 3 sec time box up high. Alternatively, you can slide jump to break this time box from its bottom but it is very easy to miss. Slide jump method is faster. Do another double jump (or slide jump - this time slide jump should be easier and faster too) to get invincibility (again). Get all the time boxes and keep running, crashing everything with your invincibility. When you start going up the slope, do a double jump and get the two time boxes up there. Then, double jump up the platform ignoring the iron spring crate and just slide below the TNT to get the 1 sec time box. The time should be around 50 to 55 seconds here. Note that the time will only move around 1 to 3 seconds more from here on. Now there are two methods to finish off the level. Choose one. First method, you can do a small jump to the monkey bar and spin the enemy while hanging on the bar. Spin the time boxes and small jump over a pit. Then do a normal jump followed by a quick tornado spin to the platform on the right side of the monkey bar where there are an Aku Aku box with a couple of time boxes. This should give you invincibility. Do a double jump straight to the 3 sec time box ahead. And with the invincibility, crash all the nitros and TNTs on your way. Get the 2 sec time box above the bouncy box and wait until the invincibility finishes before you can continue. Second method, you can do a small double jump so you can get to this monkey bar as far as possible. You would get hit by the crab, losing one Aku Aku mask. Then spin the time boxes. Small jump over a pit. Then do a normal jump followed by a quick tornado spin to the platform on the right side of the monkey bar where there are an Aku Aku box with a couple of time boxes. From here, double jump to a normal crate ahead, but bounce on it from its top and then move a bit to the left-front before doing a quick tornado spin to break the 3 sec time box and if you are lucky, you should land on the next platform. If you are not so lucky, you may get hung up to the bar for a while. When you land on the platform, just spin/crash into the nitros and TNTs, losing one Aku Aku mask. Normal jump to break the 2 sec time box above bouncy box from its bottom. You don't need to wait if you use this method. This method is a bit faster than the first method but is harder to do it properly. Whichever way you chose, you should have at least one Aku Aku left at the point just before the last monkey bar. Do a small jump, crash into the crab and then fall down to the pit which has become your "invisible floor" while you are flashing. Then, quickly do a normal jump to the next platform and spin any nitro to destroy all the boxes there while you remain "invincible". From here on, the time should be frozen until the end. Spin the time box. Keep on running and double jump pass the TNT. Then quickly spin the last box stack so the time will stay frozen. Then, just run and jump into the exit portal to finish off this LONG level... oo---------oo | CREDITS | o-----------o - Thanks to Fethy for the video. oo-------oo | LINKS | o---------o 1. http://youtube.com/watch?v=SD4UUotCWbI Fethy -- 1:03.46 -- Full Run Video 2. http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/1191/imgp0001om5.jpg Fethy -- 0:59.98 -- Screenshot 3. http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/4605/224hx.jpg PlanesWalker -- 1:31.18 -- Screenshot o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------o _______________________________________________________ oo===================================================oo [0323] | | | Level 23: MEDIEVAL MADNESS | o_____________________________________________________o |=================o===================================| | Sapphire | 1:40.00 | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Gold | 1:20.00 (-0:20.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Platinum | 1:10.00 (-0:10.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Master time | 0:16.00 (-0:54.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | My time | 0:15.20 (-0:00.80) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Best time | 0:05.34 (-0:10.66) by. Slazzy | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | LTP | 0:04.50 (-0:00.86) | o=================o===================================o oo----------oo | STRATEGY | o------------o Welcome to the most annoying level in Crash: TWoC. If you decided to attempt to beat the Master Time in this level, I tell you now that 18-19 runs out of every 20 runs you make, you will need to restart trial at the middle of this level because you WILL fail in the annoying part which I will explain soon. So, don't get too frustrated if you haven't succeed in your 10th attempt. I have warned you. And no, there is no known way to increase your chance of success, so you just have to have some luck and live with it. So, with this in mind, let's start the time trial. Start immediately by rolling down the most-left wooden bridge. Get all the time boxes in the way. Keep going as fast as you can and turn as well as you can in the uphills. Avoid nitros and keep rolling until you get to the tubes part. Get the two 3 sec time boxes here, but don't take the 1 sec time box just after the tubes. Just roll out as fast as possible on the right side. Then, don't go to the left path to take the three 1 sec time boxes in the circular path; just roll as fast as possible on the right. However, if you are lucky enough, you may break the first 1 sec time box there without losing speed. Take the right path again on the next circular path. Keep rolling on the right side, passing Tiny Tiger and get to the wooden bridge on the right (see video on link #1 for visual aid). Get all time boxes here, and quickly roll up the hill to the part where there are few red rubber pushers. Don't wait for the first one to go back when you get there; just roll over it and the timing for the others should fall into place nicely. Then, when you get near to the elevator platform, quickly take the 1 sec time box on the left and roll to the elevator while it is going up. If you are too slow in the early part of the level, you may not have time to take the 1 sec time box. That's not a big problem as the BIG problem is on the next section: the ANNOYING PART. The time now should be around 2 to 4 seconds. Remember what I said at the start of the strategy for this level? 18-19 runs out of every 20 runs you make WILL fail, and so you will need to restart trial a lot of time. Why? Because of this ANNOYING PART! Let's see... At this weird cross-section, you need to be able to roll successfully on to the other side using only two moving wooden platforms. You MUST NOT fall down. The platforms move randomly and you will more often than not fail to make it, which means you need to restart trial because failing to do this trick will cost you up to 30 seconds. In other words, if you don't reach the top part to get 12 sec worth of time boxes, you will need to restart trial because you won't be able to beat the Master Time. Well, if you fall down, you can wait for the next up and down platform to take you up there, but you have already wasted up to 30 seconds! You can do this if you just want to practice for the rest of the level which is recommended so you won't get really mad for failing AFTER you passed this annoying part. So, you successfully roll to the other side. If you are really REALLY lucky, you should retain your full speed at this moment, but chances are you will either fall down and fail or get slow down a lot. Slow down a lot but success is of course better than falling down. You should have around 5 to 12 seconds when you get the four 3 sec time boxes up there. And guess what, the time should stay frozen until the end of the level! Well, that if you continue to roll as fast as possible, getting all time boxes and take the shortest route available. Roll as fast as possible and pass all hazards. Get all the time boxes in a room next to the N. Tropy's room and then quickly roll into the maze. Take the two shortcuts as shown in the video (link #1). Note that you must roll pretty fast in order to successfully take these shortcuts. Quickly roll to the spiral and still roll as fast as you can without touching the edge too much and roll to the exit portal with the time still frozen. Be careful NOT to miss the mist in the exit portal, especially if you have done a great run! With this strategy, including passing the annoying part and take the two shortcuts in the maze, you should be able to beat the Master Time quite easily! Congrats on finishing this annoying level! oo---------oo | CREDITS | o-----------o - Thanks to Slazzy for the specific strategy for the first part of the level. - Thanks to Fethy for the video and the two shortcuts in the maze. oo-------oo | LINKS | o---------o 1. http://youtube.com/watch?v=tZ7BRo4j3dY Fethy -- 0:12.36 -- Full Run Video 2. http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/1238/imgp0004dd3.jpg Fethy -- 0:15.14 -- Screenshot 3. http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/3579/238xm.jpg PlanesWalker -- 0:59.48 -- Screenshot o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------o _______________________________________________________ oo===================================================oo [0324] | | | Level 24: CRATE BALLS OF FIRE | o_____________________________________________________o |=================o===================================| | Sapphire | 2:20.00 | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Gold | 1:50.00 (-0:30.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Platinum | 1:40.00 (-0:10.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Master time | 1:05.00 (-0:35.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | My time | 0:56.76 (-0:08.24) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Best time | 0:57.56 (-0:07.44) by. Actually, you don't even need an Aku Aku mask to start the time trial in this level. That's because most of the times you would die in the early part of the level before you can even reach the first Aku Aku box! The later part of the level is surprisingly easy and so you don't really need invincibility. But for the best time, golden Aku Aku is recommended. The two Aku Aku boxes required can be found on the first side scrolling section in this level. One on the moving platforms and the other one is right before you got chased by the fire. When you are ready, restart trial, then quickly run and do a small double jump to the first monkey bar. Don't take the clock yet and don't spin any boxes here. Go to the other side of the monkey bar and avoid the robot. Don't spin the robot too as we need it as a time reference. When you get to the other side of the bar, aim your bazooka to the clock, and when the robot is on the left side for the first time after you land on the other side, shoot the clock. Then quickly aim and shoot the two 3 sec time boxes on its left and also the two 2 sec time boxes on the bar. You need to shoot each time box separately, so you need to shoot 5 times including the clock. Then, quickly do a small jump. Run and spin the 2 sec time box and do a small double jump to get as far as possible on the next monkey bar. The timing here should be correct if you follow the strategy above. The first platform should be in a vertical position, so carefully jump to its side, and quickly do a double jump and spin the 2 sec time box. Don't get hung up in any of the monkey bars. The platform now should be in a horizontal position for you to breeze through with small jumps. Get the Aku Aku for invincibility. Crash into the 1 sec time box and quickly do small jumps again passing through 3 moving platforms. The platforms should still be in their horizontal position if the timing is right. With your invincibility, blast through all normal crates that are on your way, crash into all time boxes and get to the annoying machine! Small jump over the pit as your invincibility will kill off the robot. Get all time boxes and normal jump over the next pit and get invincibility again. On the next section, there is nothing much to say, really. Just walk as straight as possible and cut corners while getting all the time boxes and avoiding all hazards. You may want to ignore the Aku Aku box in this part since if you take it, you waste a few milliseconds and the invincibility doesn't worth it. You can choose to waste one Aku Aku after the second rest place by crashing into nitros. That may save you up to 30 milliseconds. When the fire stop chasing you, just quickly do a normal jump over the first pit and land on top of the robot. Then small jump over all the pits. All moving platforms should be in your favour. Avoid the green little robots and you should be fine. Note that you may not want to use your extra Aku Aku since crashing into enemies will waste quite a lot of time. Just jump and cut few more corners and you should get to the exit portal safely and beating the Master Time too! Congrats! oo---------oo | CREDITS | o-----------o - Thanks to Slazzy for informing me that there are two 3 sec time boxes right beside the clock at the start. oo-------oo | LINKS | o---------o None yet. o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------o _______________________________________________________ oo===================================================oo [0325] | | | Level 25: CORTEX VORTEX | o_____________________________________________________o |=================o===================================| | Sapphire | 1:45.00 | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Gold | 1:05.00 (-0:40.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Platinum | 0:58.00 (-0:07.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Master time | 0:42.00 (-0:16.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | My time | 0:38.14 (-0:03.86) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Best time | 0:38.24 (-0:03.76) by. You can find an Aku Aku box right before the first side scrolling section. Just restart trial and get two. With a golden Aku Aku, restart trial and then quickly run under the first laser. Don't take the clock yet. Normal jump to the next platform and do NOT break the box. Double jump pass the next laser and position yourself just in front of the second electric bar. When the second laser is halfway down (NOT up), quickly shoot the clock and the 2 sec time box nearby. Then quickly run and spin the 1 sec time box on the right of the second electric bar, then small jump and spin the normal crate that is on your way. See the video (link #1) for visual aid. Time should be 0.30 - 0.80 now. Normal jump and spin the time box on top of the nitro (don't jump on top of it like shown in the video (link #1) as it is slower). Then small jump over all the pits. Do a normal jump pass the laser on to the next platform. Then quickly spin the Aku Aku box and get an invincibility. Do a normal jump to take the flying 3 sec time box. Then quickly small jump over all the pits in this side scrolling section. Your invincibility should end right after you crash into the second knight shield. Do a few more small jumps and now you are on the next part. Spin the 3 sec time box, then small jump over the laser and all the pits, except do a small double jump from the second last platform to the next platform with laser. Spin the 1 sec time box then quickly double jump and do a quick tornado spin to get the flying time box. Small jump over all the pits. Normal jump over electric floor. Then if the timing is right, you should be able to run pass the laser without losing an Aku Aku. Do a small jump, then a double jump followed by a spin to get the flying time box. Normal jump the laser, and also the electric floor. There are two ways to go through the next part. Just run through as shown on video (link #1). Or you can double jump from the right side (just before the last electric bar) to the side scrolling platform (as shown in the video on link #2 but no need to tornado spin - Note that I don't know what version Stelzig's game is but in most versions, you don't need to spin any switch box to make those outline boxes breakable (there are a few time boxes there!) - look at video #1 where Fethy did not spin anything behind the electric bar. This means there is no switch box there. If you are playing the version that is similar to Stelzig's, then you have to take the first way, i.e. just run through the back of the electric bar and then spin the switch box). Either way, there should be 4 time boxes with a bunch of TNTs here. Just spin the first time box. Then quickly do a normal jump to break the flying time box from its bottom and trigger one of the TNTs. Just keep running as the TNTs will break the remaining time boxes for you. Spin the next time box. Time should be around 26 seconds now. Quickly small jump over all the pits and do a double jump pass the laser. Spin the Aku Aku box as soon as possible to get invincibility. Take the time box and small jump over the pit. Just run through the electric floor with your invincibility. Then touch the side of the most outward TNTs to break everything in that corner. Blast through all the nitros and your invincibility should be extended by crashing into one of the 3 Aku Aku crates on stack. Small jump and again, blast through all the nitros. Then, small jump over the next two pits. Your invincibility should finish here. Just do normal jumps to pass the next two pits with laser near them. You may lose one Aku Aku mask but it's not really matter. Just keep running to the exit portal right ahead. And voila! You beat another Master Time! Fethy | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | LTP | 0:22.90 (-0:01.16) | o=================o===================================o oo----------oo | STRATEGY | o------------o First of all, get yourself a golden Aku Aku mask. You can find one near the beginning so you should get a golden Aku Aku fairly quick. Then, just restart trial. Wait a few moments before you start. You may wait 0 to 3 seconds depend on your speed in completing the first quarter of the level. This is done so the spiky walls will not block your way later. When you have waited enough, quickly run from just to the right side of the clock. Alternatively, you can kick one of the many apples beside the clock and if you are lucky you may save up to 16 milliseconds, but if you are not so lucky, kicking the apple may waste you 10 milliseconds. So, best bet is, just run to the clock from its right. When kicking the first time box, your time should be 1.50 - 1.80. You can't get below 1.64 if you choose the first method but you should get 1.6x to lower 1.7x more often if you just run to the clock rather than using the apples. If you kick the apples, you would get 1.7x more often, but if you are very lucky, you may get 1.5x. Small jump over the next two pits. Then kick the Aku Aku box to initiate invincibility. Do a small jump to the iron spring crate to get the time box up high. Keep on running with your invincibility, passing the shield knight and the wizard. Quickly do 3 normal jumps up the stairs and another small jump while kicking the first time box in the side scrolling section. Kick the next two time boxes. Then jump to the 3 sec time box on the floor to bounce up and break a flying 3 sec time box from its bottom. Then small jump to the next platform. Do two small jumps on the first two platforms, then normal jump to the third, and normal jump while kicking two flying time boxes. Then jump under the next time box to break it from its bottom. The first two spiky walls should be just going to the front to block you when you run through the first spiky wall, so just quickly normal jump a bit to the front to avoid getting hit. Jump to the iron spring crate and normal jump while kicking the next 4 time boxes. Don't get hit by the nitros. The spiky wall should just move back. Note that if you are lucky and get the correct timing, all the spiky walls should be at the back and not blocking your way, like on Slazzy's run (video on link #1). However, it rarely happens. Run a bit to the front to avoid getting stuck. Kick the bouncy box and just fall down to the platform below. Note that you must go a little bit inside to fall down to the platform successfully, otherwise you will fall to the pit. Quickly kick the 3 sec time box and do a normal jump to the bouncy box. Press X button (jump button) exactly at the time you land on the bouncy box so your jump should go higher and you can break the 2 sec time box up high from its bottom. Then avoid all hazards while keep on running. Small jump to the TNTs in the middle then small jump pass all the pits. Be careful not to get hit by the spinning blade. If you do get hit, you can just blast through the nitros and kick the 3 sec time box behind them. If you don't get hit, kick the time box just after you pass the last nitro. You may get invincibility here, but it doesn't make any significant difference. If you don't get invincibility, just avoid the nitros. Do 3 normal jumps up the stair and another small jump to the next platform. You can choose to just run into the nitros losing your Aku Aku or just do two small jumps to pass them. If you have invincibility, you can just blast through them. Then, normal jump to the TNTs or the time box and land on the next platform. Small jump to the spring crate to break the time box above and you can choose to ignore the Aku Aku box or just break it. Only take the Aku Aku if you will get invincibility from it. Otherwise, just move forward. Avoid the wizard or just run through the wizard if you have invincibility. Normal jump to the higher platform. Here you can choose to kick the TNTs losing your Aku Aku or just jump onto the top of the 2 TNTs stack to blow everything up. If you have invincibility, you can just blast through everything again. Whichever way you choose (not quite sure which way is faster, so you can choose either one. You would still beat the Master Time!), now you should go up the 4 stairs smoothly in order to beat the Master Time. You can do normal jumps or precise small jumps to get up there while still holding R2 to run. This needs some practice to do it properly. When you get to the top, just keep on running and fall to the next platform below, and immediately kick the first time box on the ground. Then do two small jumps to break the next two time boxes from their bottom. Kick the last time box while you run to the exit portal. Alternatively, you can kick the first two time boxes (as shown in the video on link #1), break the third one from its bottom and kick the last time box but the first method may be a few milliseconds faster if you do it properly. Here is the strategy to beat the Master Time. Remember to always hold the Up button down from the beginning to the end. There is no need to slow down even when you are pressing left or right to get time boxes or avoid nitros on the side. You must break all the time boxes. And once again ALWAYS press the Up button no matter what happen. First Lap : On the first crossing, take the left route to get to the clock. Touch the clock at the last possible moment, so you can save up to 10 milliseconds. Get the two time boxes on this route. Time should be 0.66 - 0.74. On the second crossing, at the exit of the tunnel, choose the left route. Get all the time boxes. Then on to the third crossing just after the switch box, choose the straight (i.e. left) route. Then choose the right route on the last crossing. First Lap should finish with a time of 1.60 - 1.70. Second Lap : On the first crossing, go straight, then enter the tunnel on the right. Get all the time boxes here without slowing down. Right after the tunnel, go right. At the third crossing just after the switch box, go to right and then choose left for the last crossing. Second lap should finish with a time of 4.86 - 4.96. Final Lap : On the first crossing, go straight, but do NOT enter the tunnel. Get the only time box you haven't got here. On the second crossing, at the exit of the tunnel, go straight. At the third crossing just after the switch box, go to right and then choose left for the last crossing. Final time may vary from 13.56 - 13.72. You need a lot of luck to get lower than 13.60. oo---------oo | CREDITS | o-----------o - Thanks to Fethy for the general strategy. oo-------oo | LINKS | o---------o 1. http://img77.imageshack.us/img77/8382/imgp0012bisaw6.jpg Fethy -- 0:13.68 -- Screenshot 2. http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/1888/277pd.jpg PlanesWalker -- 0:14.31 -- Screenshot o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------o _______________________________________________________ oo===================================================oo [0328] | | | Level 28: ICE STATION BANDICOOT | o_____________________________________________________o |=================o===================================| | Sapphire | 1:08.00 | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Gold | 0:55.00 (-0:13.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Platinum | 0:51.23 (-0:03.77) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Master time | 0:35.50 (-0:15.73) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | My time | 0:34.68 (-0:00.82) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Best time | 0:34.72 (-0:00.78) by. Fethy | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | LTP | 0:34.00 (-0:00.68) | o=================o===================================o oo----------oo | STRATEGY | o------------o The strategy here is to take the shortest possible route while still breaking all the time boxes (which are all the boxes), getting inside all of the rings and hold X (accelerate button) always. You must never touch any ring, any box or your competitor because that will slow you down. By doing these, you should be able to beat the Master Time quite easily. Few tricks you can do in this level: Spin the clock, so if you are lucky, the time trial will start a bit later - may save you up to 10 milliseconds. You will then pass your competitor and will never see him again. Now spin the time boxes. Note that you can use tornado spin (and of course quick tornado spin) to help you break boxes if you are not sure whether your single spin would break the time box or not. Tornado spin will NOT slow you down but may take you out of the shortest route possible as the copter pak becomes more difficult to control while spinning. You can also touch the balloon or the rope to get the time box. At the part where you have to go very low, you can keep on pressing X without stopping if you start going down right after you spin the 1 sec time box. At the end, stick to the left and you must spin the boxes of the last two time boxes (not the rope nor the balloon) in order for them to count. You should get suck to the exit portal earlier if you are on the left, but don't touch the winning ring. With this strategy, you should beat the Master time easily. oo---------oo | CREDITS | o-----------o - None. oo-------oo | LINKS | o---------o 1. http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/4327/imgp0013bisgk1.jpg Fethy -- 0:35.78 -- Screenshot 2. http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/8100/287ot.jpg PlanesWalker -- 0:46.18 -- Screenshot o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------o _____________________________________________________________ oo=========================================================oo [0329] | | | Level 29: SOLAR BOWLER | o___________________________________________________________o |=================o=========================================| | Sapphire | 1:00.00 | o-----------------o-----------------------------------------o | Gold | 0:40.00 (-0:20.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------------o | Platinum | 0:30.00 (-0:10.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------------o | Master time | 0:13.00 (-0:17.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------------o | My time | 0:08.82 (-0:04.18) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------------o | Best time | 0:04.53 (-0:08.47) by. GSXMetroid1300R | o-----------------o-----------------------------------------o | LTP | 0:03.50 (-0:01.03) | o=================o=========================================o oo----------oo | STRATEGY | o------------o To beat the Master Time, you need to use the joy stick very very well. Before you start, move to the back of the platform you start on. At the very end of this platform, quickly turn around and start building speed. With accelerating speed, crash into the clock from its right side and keep rolling down with your high speed. Pass N. tropy's blue beam (it rarely hits you anyway) and get the first two time boxes. Quickly turn right and then drop down to the downhill. Move to the dead-end on the right side to get the two 3 sec time boxes. While taking the boxes, quickly turn your joystick to the left and start moving away from the dead end, so you won't lose too much speed and time while changing direction. Cut corner, then drop down to the left way on the next downhill. If you are lucky, you can get the two 1 sec time boxes without being slowed down while still cutting all the corners! Otherwise, you may need to slow down a bit in order to take the two time boxes and cut corners properly. Quickly roll down and get the next two time boxes. Then roll forward as fast as possible in the moving platforms. You need to do some practice runs so you know how long the moving platforms are and so you don't need to slow down at the end. When you feel that you almost reach the end of these moving platforms, quickly turn left a bit so you can take the two time boxes. From here, just roll straight as fast as you can. When you finally reach the lowest platforms, slow down a little bit so you can take the 2 sec time box. Then quickly build your speed up again to take the next time box while cutting all the corners. On the next part, take the left way first and quickly break the 3 sec time box, while moving on to the right to take another 3 sec time box. Note that Fethy did not do this in his video, which means that he could have saved up to another second. Now quickly roll to the right, passing the moving platforms. Then cut a few corners, change direction without losing too much speed and get all the time boxes. If you are quite lucky and know how long the platform is, you can cut the very last corner and roll straight to the exit portal. Surprisingly, you would RARELY miss the exit portal in this level, which is good! If you don't lose too much speed, the Master Time for this level should not be a problem for you. oo---------oo | CREDITS | o-----------o - Thanks to Fethy for the video. oo-------oo | LINKS | o---------o 1. http://youtube.com/watch?v=xk5Bee-Uhkc GSXMetroid1300R -- 0:04.53 -- Full Run Video 2. http://youtube.com/watch?v=ajYFgzUrEwA Fethy -- 0:08.98 -- Full Run Video 3. http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/555/imgp0036kx1.jpg Fethy -- 0:07.50 -- Screenshot 4. http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/2696/0603071024rj5.jpg Xcarvenger -- 0:08.82 -- Screenshot 5. http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/6374/297ip.jpg PlanesWalker -- 0:30.21 -- Screenshot o-----------------------------------------------------------------------------o _______________________________________________________ oo===================================================oo [0330] | | | Level 30: FORCE OF NATURE | o_____________________________________________________o |=================o===================================| | Sapphire | 1:15.00 | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Gold | 0:50.00 (-0:25.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Platinum | 0:43.00 (-0:07.00) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Master time | 0:36.20 (-0:06.80) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | My time | 0:35.38 (-0:00.82) | o-----------------o-----------------------------------o | Best time | 0:35.38 (-0:00.82) by. However, there are a few tricks here and there that may save you around 10 to 20 milliseconds for each trick. Here they are: - While on the ski, ALWAYS hold the O button (slide button) down so the ski will move faster. - Take the straightest route possible and avoid going up and down a lot. - Just do small jumps to get the flying time boxes. DO NOT JUMP FOR ANY OTHER REASONS, like for going up or down. Do normal jumps only if necessary. - Avoid going up and down the hill whenever possible. - Get all the time boxes. - Invincibility isn't necessary but may save a few milliseconds. - When jumping to get the flying time box, always land on the platform with the same height. - Just get hit by the last nitro to take the time box on top of it. - Move a bit to the right at the end so you will get thrown out of the ski sooner. - At the end, don't forget to press R2 so Coco will run to the exit portal. Again, similar to a few levels previously, you may miss the mist in the exit portal quite often here. Just make sure you know which pixel to step into so you can get suck into the exit portal faster. You should have 2.90 - 3.10 when taking the second time box (the one up high) and you should have around 32.70 - 33.30 when taking the last time box. oo---------oo | CREDITS | o-----------o - Thanks to Fethy for the general strategy. oo-------oo | LINKS | o---------o 1. http://img453.imageshack.us/img453/791/imgp0037tf2.jpg Fethy -- 0:35.66 -- Screenshot 2. http://img250.imageshack.us/img250/1432/306nl.jpg PlanesWalker -- 0:37.15 -- Screenshot _______________________________________________________________________________ oo------------oo | TOTAL TIME | [0340] o--------------o Just a total time for all 30 levels. - On My Time, the first bracket is the difference between Platinum and My Time. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQS) [0501] _______________________________________________________________________________ Q1. What is Master Time? All Master Time sounds so impossible! Are they even on the game? A1. The Master Time is an unofficial benchmarks set by me, similar to the "Developer Time" of Crash Bandicoot 3 Warped. THE TIME IS NOT SHOWN IN THE GAME. This is the time that you should achieve if you understand the strategies outlined in this guide and practice them with dedication. Therefore, all Master Times is supposed to be beatable. Beating Master time will give you a huge sense of accomplishment (just like beating the "Developer Time" in Crash Bandicoot 3 Warped) and show people that you have mastered that level in time trial. This can be found at the start of Section III. Next time, please read the guide first before asking questions that have been answered here. Q2. How can I get such good times? A2. Practice is the key. Just keep doing the level. Learn the level very VERY well. This guide and the videos should help you to do this faster. You will be surprised by how much you can go faster. If it gets too frustrating for you, stop playing it for a moment (a day, or even a year!), then come back to it later with a fresh mind. Then, you will realise what you thought was hard and impossible is actually within your ability to achieve it! Keep practicing to hone your skills and I am sure you can get many good times. Note that beating any Master Time is considered very good already, so you should be proud with that achievement!! Pat yourself on the back when you beat another Master Time! And smile. Email me and tell the world about your great accomplishment! Seriously, you should do this in order to keep you going on your quest to beat all the Master Time and then aim for the Best Time. Q3. My Crash runs slower! My plane moves slower! My atlasphere always rolls out of control! Those videos are undoable in my version! These Master Times must be only possible in some version of the game! That's not fair! A3. No, I don't think so. All your complaints have not been proven under fair controlled testing. This means at the moment, I see these as excuses. Prove me wrong if you really think this is true. Note that youtube has been known to stuff up the frame rate of uploaded videos, therefore any prove from youtube or any video sharing/streaming site for that matter is not sufficient. On the other hand, some people may be just jealous that they can't get low times and so they try to find a way to accuse people with low times of using cheats or faster version etc. They have no evidence and so their accusation has no base and therefore invalid. Q4. I have some good times. How can I tell you so you would believe me? A4. Just send me an email or post it in the forums that I go to (see Section X for details). If it is pretty good, then you may need to provide a proof, such as a screenshot or a full run video. Q5. I have beaten the Best Time. Now what should I do? A5. Same as Question 5. Just send me an email or post it in the forums that I go to. You will then need to provide us with a screenshot. If you can't take pictures for reasonable reasons, then just convince us that you really got that time somehow. You will know how to convince us if you are honest. Your time will be included in the record table on Section VI once we know you are honest. Q6. What is LTP again? A6. Straight copy from Section III: LTP is a theoretical lowest time possible using strategies outlined in this guide. All LTP is supposed to be impossible to beat as you are expected to NEVER get any lower than the time specified here. LTP is calculated using a theoretical perfect run if you followed everything in this guide, minus few milliseconds. However, as new strategies surfaced, some LTP may be broken and need to be revised. In other words, LTP is the maximum time anyone will ever get using the strategies I have explained in this guide. Q7. I get a lower time than your LTP. YOU ARE WRONG! AND I AM JUST TOO GOOD! A7. If you really beat the LTP, then you must be using some other strategies not mentioned in this guide. If it is possible, please provide us with a video run-through on how to do this. Otherwise, just tell us in details what strategy you used to get such a low time. If you want to keep your strategy private (why would you do that?), you must somehow convince me and people in the forums that you are NOT cheating in any way including NOT using any internal or external cheating devices and NOT using any illegal code or glitch exploitations. You will know how to convince us if you are genuine. Note that Wizards and Lizards select glitch is not acceptable, so don't bother submitting time achieved using that glitch. Q8. Some of the records on Section VI are impossible. How can I know that they are true and not just some fake numbers? A8. You can go to the forums on the sites specified in "Players Details" part at the end of Section VI. Then, post there, kindly ask for proof. You can also email me about your concern and I will try to make a contact with the person in question if necessary. So, yeah, the best way is to post your concern on the forums, especially the 4 forums I have listed in Section X. Q9. What is small jump, quick tornado spin, small double jump, slide double jump, etc? A9. Please check Section IV. Thanks. Q10. How about spring crate, bouncy box, steel crate, iron box, outline box, switch box, etc? And also what is this square button? There isn't any square button on my controller??? A10. PLEASE CHECK SECTION IV. Q11. I am so proud with my records. Where can I go to show my awesomeness to more people? A11. Post it in the forums. You can find which forums where people care about your awesomeness in this game in Section X of this guide. Q12. One of the links you listed is down! What to do... what to do...? A12. Please contact me, and I will try to ask the person to upload it again. Some people may also have the back-up in their hard drive, in case the uploader cannot be contacted. Q13. Who is this Fethy and Slazzy guy? I keep seeing their names everywhere in this guide. A13. Fethy is a French guy who has a lot of awesome record in time trial for this game. He used to beat every single established World Record at the start of 2007 within two weeks. He is the first one as far as I know to have a sub 16 minutes total time of time trial in all 30 levels. He is a dedicated and honest video game player. He is one of my competitors who wants to get the lowest time for this game in cyberscore.net. He has shared with me a lot of great videos of his run through and also revised some of my old strategies. Slazzy is a Denmark guy who also has a lot of great times in time trial for this game. He played this game competitively a few weeks after Fethy has beaten all the World Records. He started small by beating one Fethy's record (in Compactor Reactor). However, with his unique but difficult strategies, he managed to beat a few more of Fethy's World Record. Seeing this happened, really makes me want to play this game again and trying to improve my old strategies. He has also shared with me a lot of great strategies. Both of these guys have helped me a lot in getting many low times that I could not even imagine of getting close to a month before I started playing competitively with these two guys. That's why you see a lot of their names in this guide because their strategies are just too good to ignore. Thanks, Fethy and Slazzy! Q14. There are too many WALL OF TEXT here. I can't stand reading all these! A14. Well, if you know how to organise my WALL OF TEXT better, then please contact me so I can improve it. Q15. I have seen a better proven record than the current Best Time. Or I have sent you some of my awesome times that should get me into top 3 in your World Record Table. Why haven't I seen that updated to this guide? A15. Note that right after the section title in Section VI, there is this note: AS OF -- 24 March 2008 This is the last date in which the Table in this guide was updated. For the most current (unofficial) World Record table, you can always find it here: http://www.cyberscoreforums.com/index.php/topic,5644.msg85515.html#msg85515 Q16. There are MANY MISTAKES! Some of your references are wrong, the time differences are incorrect, there are some grammar contradiction, typo, etc etc etc etc... A16. Please please email me where these mistakes are. I am going to fix them to make you happy and give you a proper credit for it. Thanks in advanced! Q17. I have great news about the new Crash Bandicoot game. Do you want to hear about it? A17. Well, thank you for offering to share it with me. But, seriously I can get my news and info from more reliable sources. And if you still want to show other people your "great news", then you can post it in one of the forums I have put in Section X of this guide. There will be more people who can read your great news and respond to it, so DON'T email me your great news. Just post it in a forum/board. Q18. Why don't you allow Wizards and Lizards glitch for the Best Time, but you allow Crashteroids glitch and "invinsible floor" glitch for the Best Time? It's a DISCRIMINATION!!! A18. The select glitch in Wizards and Lizards shouldn't be allowed because it can be done only on specific version of the game, i.e. only on the original version of NTSC PS2. The glitch doesn't work on Greatest Hit version, PAL version, NGC and X-Box versions. So this gives an unfair advantage for people who have the original version of NTSC PS2. Moreover, the glitch makes you finish the level in under one second with NO SKILL WHATSOEVER REQUIRED which defeat the purpose of time trial. On the other hand, Crashteroids glitch and "invisible floor" glitch are allowed because you STILL HAVE TO DO THE LEVEL from start to finish which requires a lot of skills if you want this glitch to work for you instead of against you. That's in line with the spirit of time trial, and thus these two glitches are allowed for the Best Time. And NO, IT AIN'T A DISCRIMINATION!!! Q19. You said at the top that we can get 110% in TWoC. So how do you get 110%? A19. First, get all 25 crystals, 46 gems, 30 relics and all Crash Power so you should have 106%. - Get all the Platinum relics on Time Trial and go to Coco Bandicoot in the Warp Room. - Then go to the third boss area (Crashes to Ashes) and successfully defeat him without dying, giving you another super tornado spin power which means you can now walk while spinning continuously. You should now have 107%. - Crunch will then tell Crash that he wants to help him on any running level and Crash agrees. Go into any running level. - Crunch will take you to a special area at the end of the level you chose, but Crunch will only appear if you don't die in the level. - Take the platform to a special area. Make sure you have 99 lives here because this area is VERY difficult. Finish this area to receive the Golden Crystal. You should now have 108%. - Go to the fifth boss area (Crunch Time) to fight with... who? Crunch is your friend now. So who do we fight? Well, see for yourself! This is a quite big spoiler. Anyway, you must beat this boss to get the Olympic Dash (to make Crash runs even faster) and also to unlock Developers' Time you can try to beat in all 30 levels. You should now have 109%. - The developer time is really hard to beat even with the Olympic Dash. However, if you managed to beat all of the Developers' Time, then you should have 110% completion - a very great and satisfying achievement and accomplishment! That's it. That's all you have to do to get 110%... or is it? ... L.. O.. A.. D.. I.. N.. G.. ... LULZ!!! This is supposed to be an April Fool's Joke... Anyway this brings us to the point of this question. 106% IS THE MAX PERCENTAGE COMPLETION OF THIS GAME! You can't get any more than 106% without cheating. If someone said you can, then he/she was lying to you. Don't believe him/her! This FAKE rumour is retrieved from neoseeker.com, submitted by The Dr. on 12 November 2004, and expanded by me on 01 April 2007. Q20. Can I save this guide to my hard drive, print it, then share it to all my A20. Yes, you are encouraged to do so. BUT, there is one thing you need to remember, PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING in this guide, especially Section XI and all the credits. That's all. Q21. I have a SPAM. Do you want some? A21. NO!!! I HAVE HAD ENOUGH SPAM! IF YOU DECIDED TO DELIBERATELY SEND ME SPAM CONTINUOUSLY, YOU WILL BE IGNORED FOREVER! AND EVER! Q22. I have a real question. How can I ask you? A22. See Section X for how to contact me. Q23. Are you Chocobo or Xcarvenger? A23. I used to have Chocobo as my screen name, but it is a common screen name, so most of the time, it has been taken by other people in a more popular or bigger forum/board. Thus, Xcarvenger was born as my "unique" screen name. My avatar is usually a Chocobo anyway, so you would know that Xcarvenger IS Chocobo. However, NOT all Chocobo is Xcarvenger if that makes sense... Q24. Who made this game again? Naughty Dog, Konami, Universal, Vivendi, Sony, Vicarious Visions, Traveller's Tales or what??? A24. First of all, this question is not related to time trial for Crash Bandicoot: TWoC so I can just ignore this question. However, because I am just too nice, I will answer this just for you: - Naughty Dog is the developer of the first four Crash Bandicoot game, so ND did not make this game. ND involvements in this game were to allow the developers to use the basic formula of Crash Bandicoot games, like the used of time trial (originally from Crash 3), most of the characters' artworks and warp room design. However, without ND, Crash Bandicoot would not be as popular as he is today. - Konami is the publisher of this game for NTSC JP (Japan) region. - Universal Interactive is the publisher of this game for PAL region. - Vivendi Universal is the publisher of this game for NTSC US Region. - Sony is the maker of Playstation 2 video game console where this game was originally released for. - Vicarious Visions is the next developer that continuing Crash Bandicoot series AFTER Crash: TWoC. - Traveller's Tales IS the maker or developer of this game. So, to answer this question, this game was made/developed by Traveller's Tales using Naughty Dog already established Crash Bandicoot formula. Q25. Last question for the time being, thank you for writing this guide. A25. Sorry, but that is not a question. Thanks for the encouragement though... I wish more people would say that to me... It really DOES matter you know... but I don't expect much anyway... So yeah, if you asked me some good questions, your questions will appear below. So, this is not the last question technically (lucky you said for the time being!). So, have any questions about this guide? Contact me. _______________________________________________________________________________ VI. MISCELLANEOUS [0701] _______________________________________________________________________________ oo------------------oo | List of Glitches | [0711] o--------------------o 1. The infamous "invisible floor" glitch ---------------------------------------- This glitch was usually found accidentally in Weathering Heights. Often, players would miss the first monkey bar and hit the robot instead. They then expected to fall into the pit, but surprisingly they could walk on the pit as if there is a floor there! The glitch can be used in any area where there is an enemy near a pit. Just get yourself an Aku Aku mask or two and crash into that enemy, losing one Aku Aku mask, but now you can walk on the pit while you are "invisible". The glitch can be used to our advantage for time trial in Compactor Reactor (5), Droid Void (17), Weathering Heights (20) and Gold Rush (22). Thanks to PlanesWalker and Josher1212 for the naming of this glitch. 2. The "Crashteroids" glitch ---------------------------- I found this glitch accidentally one day when I crashed into the red satellites not on purpose. I checked back to see if the clock would still be there, and to my surprise, IT WAS STILL SITTING THERE! So, I found out that we can crash into the closest 6 red satellites and the clock will still be there. Then, with Fethy, I experimented on how far we can exploit this glitch. We found out that we can actually crash into all 9. Later on, Slazzy exploited it even more by saying that you can even destroy the blue satellites and the clock will still be there. Well, this is a really BIG glitch for Crashteroids (18). For full details of this glitch, check Level 18: Crashteroids on Section III. 3. The "Select" glitch in Wizards and Lizards --------------------------------------------- This glitch can be done by basically pressing the select button when you take the clock in Wizards and Lizards and then you will be transported instantly to the end of the level. You can finish Wizards and Lizards (4) in one second using this glitch. NOTE: This glitch IS NOT allowed to be used if you want to compete with other people in this level. One reason being this glitch can only be done on specific version of the game, i.e. only on the original version of NTSC PS2. The glitch doesn't work on any Greatest Hit version, PAL version, NGC or X-Box versions. So this gives an unfair advantage for people who have the original NTSC PS2 version. Moreover, the glitch makes you finish the level in less than one second with NO SKILL WHATSOEVER REQUIRED, which defeats the purpose of time trial. _______________________________________________________________________________ oo------------------------------oo | Differences Between Versions | [0721] o--------------------------------o - There are some differences for relic times in other versions of Crash: TWoC. The relic times in this guide are from the PAL PS2 version. Here are some differences in PAL NGC version: 0:55.00 for Level 5 platinum 1:35.00 for Level 17 gold 1:25.00 for Level 17 platinum 1:25.00 for Level 21 gold 1:55.00 for Level 22 gold 1:45.00 for Level 22 platinum 1:10.00 for Level 23 gold 1:00.00 for Level 23 platinum Some other version has this time: 1:30.00 for Level 22 platinum If you know more about this, please contact me. Credits to Slazzy for GameCube relic times and Vegg1 for Gold Rush platinum time for unknown version. - There are many differences in loading length in different version. Loading time is fast in X-Box and GameCube version. However, it takes almost one minute for each loading screen in the original PS2 version. Fortunately, the loading time in the Platinum/Greatest Hit PS2 version is much shorter (almost twice as fast) than the original PS2 version. However, the loading time in X-Box and Gamecube versions is still heaps faster in comparison to the Platinum/Greatest Hit version of PS2. - There are rumours circling around speculating that Crash runs slower in the NTSC version of the game in comparison to the PAL version. However, this rumour has not been proven under controlled testing. Note that Youtube and many video streaming site have been known to stuff up the frame rate of uploaded videos (to reduce the size of the video). Therefore, comparing videos that has been uploaded to Youtube or any video sharing/streaming site for that matter is not sufficient enough to prove this. - There is a cheat where you can get 106% and everything in the game right when you start your game. The cheat can be activated by naming your save file "WOMBAT" when you start a new game. Note that this cheat only works in GameCube and X-Box versions. This cheat can be very helpful if you have a PS2 version of Crash: TWoC but your friend (or someone else) has a GameCube and/or X-Box version of the game. Using this cheat, you can experience the "real" time trial challenge for all levels in GameCube or X-Box versions right from the start of the game. Therefore, you will be able to compete with your friends in any level without having to finish the game first. - In PAL PS2 and PAL NGC versions, the milliseconds can only end in even number, whereas in NTSC PS2, NTSC NGC or any X-Box versions, the milliseconds can end in any number. _______________________________________________________________________________ VIII.
