These are Spin, Swing and Pace. The techniques for each vary significantly and if used well can also be combined. This walkthrough was originally written to help people with figuring out how to beat a batsmen properly without having to rely on luck. One thing about any cricket game, whether in real life or virtual, is the limit of overs in ODI's. These are usually set to 50 or less overs. When the openers walk out in a 50 overs game, they walk out with the mentality of staying in the middle for as long as possible. So taking catches from slog shots is less likely to occur at the start of any innings. But as the innings progresses, The batsmen will becomemore aware of the "middle" of the innings and start playing more attacking cricket. This means they will start to run more and try to reach the top of their confidence meter to better their shot selection and timing. the higher the batsmans confidence, the better the shots he plays. This is why it is imperative to keep the batsmen from blocking as much as possible and get them to play shots while their confidence is low. the lower it is the riskier the shots, the slower they become, their timing becomes eratic and they can't play as wide in the crease as usual. When it come to opening batsmen, the best types of bowlers are Fast to medium-fast bowling types to deliver quicker balls with less time to judge upon. For middle order batsmen, a medium pace or spinning bowler is ideal. Middle order batsmen find fast paced balls easier to glance or drive and will play better shots from pace. Spinners slow the attack down and with more air time, they are harder to time well. Medium pacers have the same token as they have more air time aswell. For tail enders, A fast paced to medium paced bowler with a high level of control (this makes swing movement in the air much wider) is ideal for swinging balls into their wickets, likely making them play late and making bad shot selections as their reach is much lower then that of an opening batsman. Varied selection of deliveries to any batsman is essential. 1.1 Spinning Techniques the ablity of a slow paced bowler to spin the ball off the pitch is an exciting and necessary part of any game. The batsmen not only has to judge where the ball is going to land on the pitch but also has to judge the movement of the ball in the air, off the pitch and the speed of the delivery. The best combintions for spin bowling are as follows: Legspin bowling to a left handed middle order batsman Offspin bowling to a right handed middle order batsman Legspin bowling to a right handed Tailender Offspin bowling to a left handed tailender The reason they are reversed for Middle order and tailenders is because tail enders cannot judge a ball for their life and a ball spinning from behind the line of their legstump coming into their wicket will cause them to become jumpy and make them try to play down legside. This means that any misjudgement will result in a wicket. The other way to play to a difficult tailender is to place a few on legside and then place on armball (straight ball) on the line of middle stump. The same works for Middle order batsmen. They get used to having balls spinning into their bat and to have one placed more towards their legside will cause them to try playing a risky legside shot and if placed correctly with a low enough batsman confidence, will cause them to mistime the ball and miss it completely. 1.2 Swinging Techniques The ability to swing relies solely on any bowlers level of control which can be checkad at anytime by going into the bowling statistics or bowler selection screen and pressing the more button to see their stats. This will show the level of control available to the bowler and the higher the level of control, the wider the swing will be. Swing bowling is comparitively easy compared to the other types of bowling and Only needs to be placed close to the wicket but slightly wide and the swung in towards or out away from the batsman. Either ball is equally damaging if done correctly will hit the batsmans pads or his wicket. If lbw is not given then the batsmans confidence level will drop considerably, especially if the team appeals to the umpire for lbw. The lower the batsmans confidence the less likely he will be able to judge the amount of swing. 1.3 Pacemen Techniques The ability to bowl fast paced and accurately is essential when opening the bowling attack as the faster the ball is, the harder it is to judge the timing and the more likely they are to block. This is where swinging comes in handy with pace bowling. If you bowl fast paced slighly outside the line of offstump and then swing the ball away from the batsman, he will likely not reach the ball and the blocking opportunity. This will cause his confidence to drop. If done correctly, you can do this a few times and then swing the ball back into the batsman and he will most likely miss the shot and will lose his wicket. Other very helpful ball selections are shots such as in cutters and out cutters where the swing on the ball is opposite to the way the ball will seam off the pitch. This is useful to lowering the awareness of the balls trajectory and makes and edge to the keeper or a mistimed left shot likely. I hope this bowling guide helps you significantly in aiding your bowling attack and bowler selection. If you have found any othe helpful deliveries then please email me with these and i will add them to the guide with a reference to you. Thankyou. 2.0 Batting Types Batting types are very easy to judge but i thought a guide to help you make a good batting lineup and increase playabilty for people who lack the knowledge of the game to do this adequately. There are three typed of batters. Opening batsmen, Middle order batsmen and Tailenders. 2.1 Batting orders Openers are best for pacers and have a high level of skill against pace bowlers and any other bowler in general, and have very high legside and offside skill. They also must have a very high abilty in defense. These batsmen are in the opening spots at 1 and 2 Middle order batsmen are best at between positions 3-8 on the batting order. These should have high skill against swing, spin and pace and have a moderate to high skill in legside and offside play. they dont need such a high skill with defense because they are better at playing at the ball rather than blocking. Tailenders are just plain old bad at batting and may have between a rating of 5-30 and take up spots 9, 10 and 11. 2.2 Openers Techniques When opening the batting there are three things to look out for. Defense when the ball is places at your feet infront of the stumps, cuts, drives and glances when the ball is placed wide of the stumps on either side and at a medium length on the pitch. The last thing to look for is the no ball. These can be slogged without a second look because you cannot be bowled or caught out when playing these, but you can be run out so try not to take too many runs on these. 2.3 Middle order batsmen You need not look too far on these guys, high level of skill, good timing and great confidence. Theyre ability to slog on the offside and legside is unparalleled. use these batsmen to hit short pitched balls out of the ground but only through the fielding gaps and any full pitched balls glanced away for a four on the legside or offside. use the block to build up confidence only. try to play plenty of shots and you will get a higher score than a defensive innings. 2.4 Tailenders These are the hardest to bat with because their timing is bad and their coordination is even worse. You must place the directly in front of the ball placemarker and even then they have a high likelihood of edging the ball and missing it completely. another drawback of tailenders is they are highly likely to get out by lbw because of their placement directly in front of the ball. be careful and try to bat defensively with tailenders and glance your shots down legside. This is the easiestshot to play with a tailender and has a higher success rate of making runs than a drive or a slog shot. 3.0 Contact me If you wish to have something added here or would like to use this walkthrough then please contact me and let me know at [email protected]
