A very lethal weapon...

Ratchet and Clank 2 is a difficult game to review. Not only does it come at a difficult time, but it is a game which must be fully completed to enjoy. What made the 1st Ratchet and Clank great was not its originality (none), but the way it was presented, slick, polished, and immensly playable. The storyline managed to have a few funny moments, the graphics were good, the weapons were large and the went BANG! very loud. So does R&C2 live up to the hype?

Yes. And no. And yes. If you were a member of the highly skilled Imsomniac team, you would be preparing for global domination, If it weren't for a long-eared boy and a hilarious weasel.

That's right, the absolute corker of a game, Jak II. Though Ratchet and Clank 2 Gives more weapons (Which are now upgradable), levels, characters, fun and explosions than before, it is very similar to the original. In, Jak II, everything underwent a serious rehaul. The game was made with love and care, and it is one of the most addictive, compelling and satisfying gaming experiences on the market.

Back to R&C2. You must protect the galaxy from a cuddly pet. On your way, you meet a female of your sepcies (Oh, the originality). You must work together to save the galaxy beore it is too late (YAWN!). Compared to the unpredictable, more adult storyline of Jak II, it is very poor.

The basic theory of the game remains the same: When in doubt, add as much things to the screen as possible. So it is more of the same... but R&C was an excellent game in its own right. So go for it if you loved R&C, or if you like an enjoyable shooting/platforming experience, but if you want sheer brilliance, originality, and humour, go for Jak II.

Graphics: 94% Bright, cheerful, colourful, and fast.

Sound: 73% Forgettable music, quite annoying voices.

Gameplay: 90% Fluid controls, good variety and great weapons.

Lifespan: 69% Just over 10 hours, then play the game with all your weapons.

Overall: 80% You must have heard enough from me for now about this game...
