What is the best symbol to start the game?
I have Begin with a Thunder symbol, but now is mine Light monsters very bad.

If your using light monsters you want the light symbol I use the dark symbol with dark monsters bc of the summoned skull plus dark magician and throw in barrel dragon it's an awesome combo. So it all depends on what monsters you use and or want to use
I personally like the EARTH Symbol with an EARTH-LIGHT team. The EARTH monsters gain high PP, making them near impossible to kill, while the LIGHT monsters gain high ATK.
I think wood is the best symbol because it combines high atk and def both on wood high atk on water also they have the most unfair sp ablt and they have really good + ap and they don't waste too much ap
I think dars the best it has a great vary of monsters and incresses there atk
Personally, I go with wind. It gives Wind monsters wicked high def with their already OP movement. And with monsters like Gaia the Dragon Champion and Harpie Lady Sisters, your reach is long. Almost everything will do 10 dmg to you if you max out effect strength and level your monster up a bit.
Wood is my runner up. Has a much wider variety of a monster pool to use like Hugh Tide Gyojin and Hyosube with some Perfectly Ultimate Great Mother and Kuwager Hercules. It boosts up both def and atk for wood and just atk for water.
Wind is a great symbol to use to get familiar with the game. Less punishment for mistakes so long as you only make a few, and wood is a great symbol to use if you want a harder play through as most of the good monsters require you to fuse and evolve weaker monsters with either bad movement or bad attack range. Or in some cases like the Psychic Kappa, both.
I use the fire symbol because it's 300+ means total destruction. Why play with others when I can burn with 5 level 9 fire reapers at 400 attack?
Wood is objectively the best attribute since it raises both the ATK and DEF of all wood monsters. It makes them unstoppable. However, if you want variety, WIND, WATER, and LIGHT all increase DEF, while DARK or FIRE increase ATK. EARTH increases Health to make your monsters all tanks. Depends what you're looking for in your playthrough.
Here are what I believe the best symbols are for each team composition.
Light and earth - earth symbol
Wood and water - wood symbol
Dark and thunder - thunder symbol
Wind and fire - depends
I'll explain each, first the earth symbol. Light symbols are really bad as they don't patch up the poor attack of light monsters (believe me that the attack bench marks are super low and even blue eyes white dragon can have mediocre attack). They gain defence but it only really matters for certain types like wind. Aside from that, your survivability is dependent on pp. Earth monsters gain defence which really isn't attractive when compared to the earth symbol as it doesn't really help them with their survival capabilities as much as earth symbols. The earth symbol gives the very potent pp boost which pretty much means that they can multiple hits and that only dark monsters will have the chance of a two hit KO. I've seen gaia have 1000 pp with a low level and a symbol boost, which of course is ridiculous. It also turns light attacks from being mild taps of damage to potent attackers.
As for the water symbol, it's a similar story to the light symbol in that it gives defence without any benefits to attack. The wood symbol is so much better because it not helps both with attack but even give defence to woods, which is insane. Put simply it is an incredibly effective symbol especially for woods.
Dark and thunder is weird because both have good benefits. Dark symbols give the massive attack boost of dark and the defence boost to the frail thunder. But as you can see I do favour attack boosts in this game as they can allow you to eliminate threats easier. This is why I would recommend using thunder symbol as both get potent attack boosts instead of just one.
And finally the most debatable, wind and fire. It has been popularised by underlordtico that wind symbols are the best (I respectfully disagree) due to the fact that wind monsters benefit on every map from stat buffs not including the symbol, but I believe it is worthwhile checking the symbol out anyway. It gives defence buffs to fire and wind. Ordinarily I would be bothered but both actually have good attack and the defence of winds can actually be absurd at times. But don't forget that avoiding using a fire symbol could miss potential kills from both. As well fire monsters become offensive gods with the use of a fire symbol. Really I'd have to put it up to the players play style for these monsters. I personally do prefer the use of a fire for these monsters but I cannot deny that there are uses for this symbol unlike other defence buffers.
As for the best symbol, I would have to give it for earth symbols in their early game. Bulk is something that is crazy with earth monsters and light gain a pleasant and well deserved attack buff.
But for the late game I would say that woods and water as monsters like hyosube, high tide gyojin, needle worm, man eater/ green phantom prince and the perfectly ultimate great moth really boost the potency of this symbol.
Dark has good attack and defense, light only had good defense, fire has good attack and ok defense
After reading every post here, researching other articles on the internet and playing the game both the campaign and player vs player for 1 month in 2022 I have come to the following conclusions
1) the best symbol in the game by far is the earth symbol
The reason is that with earth symbol light monsters gain "double attack" While earth monsters gain "double health"
Playing the campaign with this symbol is very easy because it offers a nice variety of monsters some of them also have good attack, health and move set.
Player vs player: in every match played the earth symbol won because of the following: light monsters when level up they gain health and defence making them capable of taking damage and survive from every monster with every symbol there are two exceptions: fire and lightning monsters but light monsters can one shot them too so it's not even a weakness.
Earth monsters can't be one shot by anything not even an Meteor black dragon with fire symbol (reaches 819 attack and can be boosted above 1k) earth monsters can have problem facing dark monsters but that's barely a problem.
2) the other symbols that are at least worth the effort are: lightning, fire and wood.
Fire gets the highest attack in the game but also is the most frail so be sure to hit first
Lightning is good and very enjoyable if this is your first symbol
Wood is great for beating the campaign but in pvp it gets smacked by the others
3) defensive symbols are good for the campaign and the worse for player vs player. I'm not kidding. All defensive symbols get smacked by all other symbols the damage they do is low and they still take too much damage usually get one shot. With the exception of light symbol that will add a proper bulk to it's monsters but then it gets smacked by lightning symbol super fast.
4) the discussion about wind symbol being very good at defense.
Sadly it's not. It's good in campaign only but I managed to hit the same defense with other symbols even attacking symbols under specific circumstances so it's not worth it.
Example: fire symbol playing at king Coliseum first level, j used gaia the dragon champion level 9 and meteor black dragon level 9 along with other monsters, I set the land form to wind and Gaia didn't took more than 10 damage in the whole match while also oneshotted monsters. Black meteor dragon was defeated but it had already destroyed 5 monsters.
Example 2: wood symbol, it's an attack symbol yet wood monsters get a bit of extra defense. Wood monsters will never lose in the campaign after a few levels while also can one shot most enemies with the exception of earth monsters.
So if you are going to just play the campaign and want a good defense pick Earth or wood.
And if you are going to play with a friend then the one that has earth symbol will win.
