How to Counter/defend Chair Attack?

While Playing with my friend,he gets out of the ring and grab a chair and then comes into the ring , press 'X' Continuously ,he doesn't allow my superstar to even stand up.I also press L2 repeatedly and sometimes tried R2 also,but it failed to defend my player against that continuous chair attack.So,please tell me what are the controls or keys to counter that chair/hammer attack or steal that chair from opponent's hands?
