throwing bottles in second chapter of story mode

When I get to the second chapter of story mode, after hold up has been activated the game told me to throw a bottle to distract the police. It tells you to press L1 and use the left stick to aim. When the arc turns red you are locked on target. That's fine but how do I throw the bottle! Nothing happens.

I gave that part up for awhile put back in box and messed with it few months later (NOW) VERY STUPID DIRECTIONS PS2 PEOPLE ! OH AND WITH NO TECH SUPPORT OR PHONE NUMBER ! ..Your game is like and other product out there PROVIDE CUSTOMER SERVICE ...ORRRR WE the people shall stop buying..Anyway I was moving that line everywhere pushing all the buttons directions were STUPID ! Take the red ARC make the end of it land inside the yellow W box then hit X boy that was hard ps2 people lol Thank You That's all
