You keep giving it attention like play razzie, and then keep petting it, then go to special, and it will say take in stay. Then a box comes up and it says "are you sure you want to add this stray into the family?" click yes. And there- you've added a new member!

How do you actually find a stray in the first place? All the pets that come to my house have their owners with them, there doesn't seem to be any strays?

They have to be torchered in other families and run away firstGuest answered:
First, you go to the real estate office and make a family with a pet that you like and you never feed the pet or play with it. Eventualy it will run away. Then, you can go to the family you want to adopt the dog and wait for the stray to come. Play with it and become good friends. Then as the last post said adopt it into your family

They will just randomly walk into your yard you can't really predict it. Sometimes they even walk into your house and the next thing you know is that the pet is right behind you. So, the best thing I can do for you is wish you good luck, hope you find one.

Just letting anyone who looks at this question in 2012; know that the guest that says that you can not get strays is lying or hasn't played very often. My best friend and I were playing and in my home a stray named Max wondered onto my lawn and within a few moments of playing, giving love and then seeing him twice my character was able to adopt him
