Cheat Gnome is not appearing

I was able to use the cheat codes fine during my first game, the gnome appeared and I had no trouble finding it. Now I'm playing a new game and for some reason when I press R2 it brings up the inventory, which it did not do before. So now when I enter the code for the cheat gnome it just brings up the inventory and the gnome does not appear. Anyone know how to fix this?

Enter the cheat gnome code on the pause menu, then enter the codes you want on the game
