Everyone may die, but Gandalf must stay alive! Use that fire phial thingie (something like that) to reduce fire damage done to Gandalf. Then use Morgul Decay to bring the Balrog's armour to 0.

Then use Arnor Mushrooms so you dont have to use AP's for Gandalf's attacks. After that, use Gandalf's Bolt of the Valar attack as many times as you can, till the Balrog dies. If Gandalf hasn't got much life, use Kingsfoil or Ent Draught Phial.

And another thing, if the dwarf must attack, use Endure Flame to reduce fire damage done to the group.

i beat balrog easy with almost 0 damage on hard deficulty, with hadhods endure flames, moundain shield and berethors company resistance after balrocks attack drains most of partys action points i used gandalfs wisards drain

What I did to defeat the much adored Balrog. Use Gandalfs endure shadow for his first move. With the next character you are able to use, use Arnor mushrooms on Gandalf (the one that allows them free use of action points for the game) and then just keep beating the balrog up! Just make sure Gandalf doesn't die...the others don't really matter.

Keep attacking the balrog with bolt of the valor and iff Gandalfs healthe becomes low, heal him to full health with an item that does that. Keep doing this untill the Balrog falls. I did this and done it first time!

Helios Rietberg answered:

The way I defeated the Balrog was just (basically) keep using Gandalf.

Of course you have to keep the others alive (if they get knocked down, Elf Medicine will do the trick; of course, I recommend you use Elf Medicine on Idrial first; then you can get her to heal the others that are near kicking the bucket or get her to revive those who have fallen).

I didn't think of using the Arnor Mushrooms like the previous submitters; I always used Lembas, Leaves of Lembas or Sachel of Lembas.

Anyhow, as long as you have the fighting spirit and confidence, it'll be VICTORY for you on your first try. ;)

legolas_rules answered:

When Gandalf gets an attack use Endure Shadow and when Hadhod gets one use Endure Flame. Have Idrial use Loudwater fury. Berethor should use Ecthelion wrath, if you have it. I learnt it after the second time Berethor hit the Balrog. If not use Citadel Rage. For Gandalfs second attack use bolt of the valar and so on. If the Balrog uses Pillar of Wrath use Wizards drain.

haldir3011 answered:

All these people have good points, but I think that there is a much easier way with minimal death. Use Idrial, Elegost, and Hadhod. Gandalf uses Endure Shadow, Hadhod Endure Flame, Elegost Creature Bane, Idrial Haste of the Elves on Gandalf. From there, depending on what Balrog uses, Hadhod resists fire best. Have Hadhod place Stone Shield on everybody ASAP, after using Endure Flame on first Round. Idrial can use Loudwater Fury on Balrog, after placing Haste of the Elves on everyone. Elegost can keep using Creture Bane. Gandalf always uses Bolt of the Valar, unless a member is low on AP. Then he uses Wizards Drain. Use this strategy, and you can't lose.

Guest answered:

Haldir3011 has the better answer of all submitted. Stone shield on everyone.
build hadod spirit attack experience until he can shield everyone with one turn instead of one at a time.
Use elogast to examine balrog to find weaknesses.
Idrial power of the valor will restore both full health and full ap of fallen teammate
Use attacks which lessen damage caused by balrog
Use berethor resist evil spirit attack. There are lots of items which restore health and ap to the entire group
