Question for Tales of the Abyss

How do new "Artes" become unlocked?

According to a Walkthrough, Anise can learn "Guardian" at Lv. 22, and yet, she's reached Lv. 22 already, and hasn't learned it.

I've also noticed that once an Arte has been learned, the Character is unable to use it, unless certain conditions are met in Battle.

Ex: ANISE(Lv. 22):
Dragon Surge O
Dual Punishment O
Shadow Raid O
Eagle Dive O
Duel Dragon Surge O
Negative Gate X
Limited O

And yet, she hasn't tried to learn "Guardian", Which she should have learned upon reaching Lv. 22.
Also, when an Arte is Purple, I can't turn it on/off until it's learned.

NOTE: O = Can use X = Can't use

Do you need to use a certain Arte 50 times before unlocking a certain Arte like in my Radiant Mythology Game? How exactly does this work?

It's just your luck you ramdomly learn it via not using artes for a while good luck

Anise probably learns guardian thru a item she in the story it's head piece for tokunaka her puppet.

She learns certain moves by using moves a certain number of times will give a example like Luke for instance he has to use havoc strike and raging blast 50 times in order to learn raging havoc
