How do you climb the bonsai trees?

Freeze the wee animal with ice breath and jump on it

You need the Ice Breath from Cloud 9, don't worry about exploring Cloud 9 as it's near the beginning.

Take the rune to the Spirit Dragon and then go back to Dragonfly Dojo.

Just freeze the little dragons and jump up onto the trees.

If you talked to all three of them, they would of given you clues towards my answer!
