Silver and bighead carp are NOT bottom feeders.
They are filter feeders and therefore hard to catch on rod and reel. If snag fishing is legal, that is one way or bow hunting another. The meat is white and firm, however it has the bone pattern of regular carp. Due to the size (BIG) the bones are not that big a problem. The meat has been compared in taste to crab meat or scallops. The meat is highly prized in asian cultures. These fish school in large numbers and the silver carp is a jumper if disturber. Both species feed in the water column and at times close to the surface.
