Big game player returning and is stuck

Okay, I played this game a long time ago and got stuck on the level where it's just you and carl(the dude with the camera) and theres a big canyon between the ledge you're on and the one Hayes is on. Well I returned to the game and am still stuck on that level. Can someone tell me what to do?
