You use your sword to get rid of the webs and then you use you fire sword to attack the spider.

I beat this guy within a couple minutes...right when the battle starts (as soon as you possibly can), attack him with your sword. I got to him before he got his webs up and killed him right off. Was a shock considering I'd been trying to fight him (and failing) many MANY times before that.
