Question for Gran Turismo 4

I'm trying to get license, how do I get the ghost car to go away. When I fail the ghost car always screws me up when I retry.

Just simply tap up and away you go, no supernatural cars to bother you.

I think you have to press up or down on the directional buttons.

In the options, I believe there is a place to turn the ghost off.
