Depends what car you use I would recommend a leone sentinel I used that to do it and it's a fast car,it can handle and it's pretty big so you can knock the other cars out of the way.(there's a leone sentinel right outside ma's house)

I used a Hellenbach GT, or even a Police Car. I had completed the Taxi missions before attempting this mission, so I used a Bicke '76 (the reward for dropping off one hundred fares).

I agree, use the leone sentinel. And type in the follow cheat [DOWN, DOWN, DOWN, TRIANGLE, TRIANGLE, CIRCLE, L1, R1]. I had a ball doing this mission cause what the follow cheat does is to make everybody follow you [peds go in your car]! I passed several missions using this cheat. Just be creative. In your case, you just need to get past the 3 racers and they will follow you behind. Some of the guys got to nowhere and went out of their cars and started chasing me. Then voila.. It should get you to first place.
When killing "the suckling pig" a.k.a. Grease sucho, just bump his car several times so he'll come out and run him over. Steal his hot rod if it didn't blow up! =D
