What does "soften" mean?

I think I know the answer ok when you do that soften thingy all I seen is that it moved the screen just a tad and I think it makes the game not have as much gore or blood or somthing but makes the game a VERY little easyer not much help but I think it makes the game a little bit easyer srry thats what I think dono if it is really true.srry again hope this helps!!!
