I have trouble scoring goals because I can't get near them even on amature..

Alrite my best advice is pass the ball more use the trinagle if on ps2 so he can create an attack do not let the other team get near you like if you run and other team is fightin for the ball just go the other way and avoid them you also have to pay attention on where your plaers are you shoudl first start practicing on practice mode with only one opposite player and just practice

For me , tackling is everything when i'm not in possession of the ball.You can use the O button on the PS2 to just make a simple tackle , but I use the sliding tackle mostly.It is dangerous but you get to injure the oppositions player(a 15% chance) as well as you get the ball.So I would say you should practice the sliding tackle(square button) on the practice mode.But the main problem anyone faces is the yellow cards or even the red cards,if it is mistimed you get a card.As for the goals,when you are in a home match,you get to start the kick off,so you move in the right direction.When the opponents player heads towards you,you move towards him,then press the R2 button to stop your player,when the opponents player comes to tackle you,move downwards or upwards.Keep on passing the ball too to confuse the cpu.This way of fooling the oppositions player is more effective if your players creativity is on the max level,and do not forget to use the skill stick(R3 button).I understand it is confusing but this is the best way I can do to explain.And also you can use the R2 trick for the goalkeeper as well but it may be a little tough.Just aim straight and keep a low power so that the ball goes right in the bottom corner for a goal.Remember when you are buying a Striker,look at his dribbling level,it helps in scoring goals faster as it helps to run faster. Ok, go to the practise mode, to break down what you are practising, first practise your shooting, because you can't score with out being able to shoot, spend a lot of time with the shooting, how far the analog has to be for differ angles, power needed for differ distances, differ types of shots, like when your one on one, you can just tap o it will trickle under the goalkeeper.
L1 and o will chip the goalie, jus keep at this until you get good.
Now try practising passes, pass it about the field, DONT smack it up the pitch to give to the strikers to score, sometimes it works, but don't try it often, pass it about, gradually finding your players, and getting further up the field so you have more options when you get in front of goal, trust me.
Now practise your set plays, corners, free kicks and penaties. They are so crucial in a game that your not doing good in, it really helps, and a penalty, is mighty crucial, you score you get a goal (der) but if you miss your teams morale is affected proper bad.
