How do I fish I can't get any fish to get hook?

Yeah I had this problem too. When you first get to fish you will find that only one bait will work on your hook. I dont know if this was a glitch on my game but only prickly bait would show up as being on the hook.
This later changed in other villages to whatever I wanted.

The fish are picky and you will have to experiment with what bait will work and what will actually get you some fish.
You need patience, it is better to fish in the morning and at night thats when they are hungrier. And when you see the fish knawing at the line and the line start to bob you have to really wait and make sure that the line has dropped enough before you start the X button mash, otherwise you will take the bait away from the fish and eventually run out of bait.

Its a pain but its worth it for some of the weapons you can get.

So far I've found that mimes work well for the first, prickles in the second, evys in the third... I have not figured out the rest I just borrowed the game from my aunt.

Fishing on the remastered ps4 is really messed up. Lose alot of bait, fish screwing around. Taking bait down, then hit the button and nothing happens. I’ve decided to completely eliminate the fishing out of frustration. I’ve won the ps2 version dozens of times and never had this level of frustration. I hope the rest of this game gets better. It ain’t looking good.
