On the levels like antartica if you are having trouble smashing the blocks, take off, do a snap turn, drop into the barrel then exit and drop back in again.

This should cause it to generate an ice block for you to smash or sponger to splash (depending on level) instead of having to wait around.

Has worked on most levels except jump the kayaks.
